john lodge tour dates 2022

Released on CD and all digital and streaming platforms on January 14th, this spectacular 10-track album includes brand-new, live recordings of all John’s Moody Blues hits, along with special tributes to all his bandmates: Graeme Edge, Justin Hayward, Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas, including a very special recording of ‘Late Lament’ by Graeme Edge.

The album has already received critical acclaim and rave reviews. Three videos have been released on YouTube to accompany the album: ‘Ride My See-Saw’, ‘Gemini Dream’, and the latest, for ‘Isn’t Life Strange’, was premiered this week in Prog Magazine.

Check out ‘Isn’t Life Strange’ here:

The album was recorded live in Las Vegas on ‘The Royal Affair Tour’, in the Summer of 2019, with additional tracks recorded during John’s subsequent USA dates. The carefully curated set and album track list includes hits such as ‘I’m Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band)’, ‘Ride My See-saw’, ‘Isn’t Life Strange’, ‘Steppin’ in a Slide Zone’, and ‘Gemini Dream’. John has woven these tracks together with special tributes to his bandmates from The Moody Blues.

“I’m absolutely delighted by the incredible reaction to the album,” says John, “it truly is ’the soundtrack of my life’… as I always say to the fans: thank you for Keeping the Faith, but this time they truly have. It also makes me so very happy that Graeme did his special performance of ‘Late Lament’ for the album, he will be deeply missed, but always stay with us in our hearts and on this album. I’m also thankful to Jon Davison from YES who is a great friend, but also performs the vocals on ‘Nights’ so beautifully, honouring this iconic song. I can’t wait to see everyone back on the road — I’ve missed being just a singer in a rock and roll band!”

John and his 10,000 Light Years Band capture the essence, energy, and messages of these Moody Blues songs, performing them with the verve and musicianship the band were famed for, whilst bringing a truly modern feel to these classic songs. John’s mission statement is, after all, “I want to keep all the Moody Blues music alive!”

And that he will with this album and its carefully chosen tracks. In the words of Folk and Tumble “’The Royal Affair And After’ is a stunning live album from John Lodge”

Powerplay Magazine who awarded the album 9/10 say “Performed in Las Vegas on The Royal Affair Tour, it’s clear that those present were treated to something very special… We’re left more than satisfied by a fabulous selection of live favourites which act as a timely reminder of why The Moody Blues remain one of our finest treasures.”

Sonic Perspectives agree “These fine musicians lay the groundwork to allow Lodge to shine on top with his vocals, bass and most importantly – charisma – which conveys his sustaining love for the material.”

“In summary,” RockMusicStar reflect, “The Royal Affair and After’ record is a must have for any music lover that is appreciative of well-crafted songs, classic rock and electrifying live performances. John Lodge and band bring back the magic of the Moody Blues with a record that is both very satisfying to not only to long-time fans, but also the younger newer fans. The music of the Moody Blues may be decades old, but Lodge and band give the Moody Blues’ masterpieces a fresh coat of sonic paint.”

The ‘Royal Affair and After’ is out now on CD, digital download, all streaming services, and limited-edition 180g blue vinyl. The black vinyl will be released on 11th February 2022. You can catch John and his 10,000 Light Years Band on tour in the USA in March, performing all these songs and more! See John’s website for details.

The Moody Blues’ John Lodge Announces 2023 Tour

Together with his 10,000 Light Years Band, will perform The Moody Blues’ iconic 'Days of Future Passed' album in its entirety

JOHN LODGE , legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, will bring his new show “Performs Days of Future Passed” to America. JOHN, together with his 10,000 Light Years Band , will perform The Moody Blues ’ iconic Days of Future Passed album in its entirety, with a special recording by the late Graeme Edge and performances by Jon Davison of YES . The show will also feature a set of the pioneering classic hits “Ride My See-Saw,” “I’m Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band),” “Isn’t Life Strange,” “Legend of a Mind” and “Nights in White Satin” in what promises to be a truly spectacular evening. Below are the tour dates and JOHN ’s quotes about the show. For tickets, VIP packages –which include a great seat, a personalized video message from John, exclusive merchandise, and more–please visit: https://johnlodge.com/tour .

On November 10, 2022, Days of Future Passed will celebrate its 55 th Anniversary, and JOHN wanted to do something special to celebrate the album. The Moodies had embarked on a US tour in 2017 to celebrate the 50 th , but regrettably stopped touring shortly after, and then, very sadly, Graeme Edge passed away in 2021. However, shortly before his passing, John and Graeme met and spent some special time together, and at that meeting Graeme told John how he hoped John would continue on with the music and keep the Moody Blues’ music alive.

JOHN returned home and realised that what he really wanted to do was revisit this iconic album, honor his lost friends Ray Thomas and Graeme Edge, and his other bandmates Justin Hayward and Mike Pinder, but also reimagine it for today. How would he do it differently? Graeme had already recorded a special version of “Late Lament” for John, and John’s great friend (and future son-in-law) Jon Davison (of YES) had recorded “Nights in White Satin” for him, and so the stage was set; John went into the studio and began work with his Musical Director, Alan Hewitt, on both a new show and a new album, details of which are TBA.

The new show, based around the simple tale of “a day in the life of an everyday man,” will highlight all that made Days of Future Passed the ground-breaking album that it was–arguably the start of Progressive Rock. It retains the core emotion of the original album and recreates its incredible orchestration, but at the same time it also brings in a modern feel thanks to the great strides in modern fidelity, and the maturity that comes with the passing of the years. Listen to “Nights in White Satin,” “Tuesday Afternoon,” “Peak Hour,” and more fill the room, and you’ll be taken back to 1967, but at the same time, you’ll hear what John has brought to this new version in his vocals, bass and harmonies, and how he sees the album 55 years later. In its own way, it can also be said to be a reflection of John’s own life.

The electrifying show will also feature a selection of JOHN ’s classic self-written hits, including the above-mentioned “Ride My See-Saw,” “Isn’t Life Strange,” and “I’m Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band).” The latter two were hit singles on the Moody Blues’ album Seventh Sojourn which spent 5 weeks at Number 1 on Billboard and is currently celebrating its 50th Anniversary. Come and be taken back to the Moody Blues’ shows of the past, featuring JOHN LODGE , and including tributes to all his bandmates.

Joining JOHN on stage is his 10,000 Light Years Band , long term collaborator Alan Hewitt (Music Director and Keyboards) and Billy Ashbaugh (Drums) from the Moody Blues touring band, together with Duffy King (Guitars) and Jason Charboneau (Cello). Jon Davison of YES will also be joining them for his special renditions of “Nights in White Satin” and “Tuesday Afternoon” plus the magical voice of Graeme Edge will be heard via a special recording.

“November 2022 sees me looking back 55 years to that week in 1967,” says JOHN LODGE . “As I said at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Graeme, Mike, Ray, Justin, and I, together with Tony, went into a studio, and seven days later we came out with an album that changed our lives forever.” He adds: “I’m sorry that the Moodies are no longer touring, and I miss my friends Ray and Graeme deeply, but as I looked back to the past, I realised that I also wanted to look forwards to the Future. My hope is that in this show, and album, you will get to revisit 1967, but at the same time, see how this album has grown with me, and with you. Thank to you the 10,000 Light Years Band, Jon Davison and, of course, Graeme, for their belief in this project and helping bring my vision to life. And thank you to all the fans for Keeping the Faith.”

Ron Carter brings The Golden Striker Trio, Great Big Band and Foursight Quartet to Birdland for his October residency…

Closing out the run will be a week with Carter’s Foursight Quartet , featuring an exceptional lineup of accomplished virtuosos Jimmy Greene on saxophone, Renee Rosnes on piano, and Payton Crossley on drum. “Their playing has real purpose, not just jamming in the spur of the moment — as rewarding as that can be,” said veteran critic Will Friedwald in his live review of last year’s quartet hit for The New York Sun. Hailing from Connecticut, Jimmy Greene stands as one of his generation’s most esteemed saxophonists, with an extensive catalog of recordings and a rich history as a sideman for luminaries such as Horace Silver and Freddie Hubbard. Similarly, pianist Renee Rosnes, originally from Vancouver, has forged an illustrious career marked by her collaborations with jazz legends like Joe Henderson and Wayne Shorter. Her tenure with the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra, the SFJAZZ Collective and her groundbreaking group Artemis have solidified her place in the jazz pantheon. Drummer Payton Crossley, who entered the jazz scene at a young age, made his mark alongside the great pianist Ahmad Jamal. His formative years included invaluable guidance from renowned drummer and teacher Alan Dawson, placing him firmly among the jazz major leagues.

THE MOODY BLUES’ JOHN LODGE Announces New Album And US Tour Dates

THE MOODY BLUES’ JOHN LODGE Announces New Album And US Tour Dates

John Lodge, legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, has announced that he will be releasing his version of the iconic album, Days Of Future Passed, entitled Days Of Future Passed - My Sojourn, to accompany his upcoming tour of the same name.

The album is to be released on CD as special fan club only release, and will be available at the upcoming shows starting July 18, and through John’s website for pre-orders, with shipping on August 7.

The album was recorded over the last year, and has grown from John’s current live show as he, and his 10,000 Light Years Band, lovingly recreate this classic album. The album also features a special recording by the late Graeme Edge and performances by Jon Davison of YES. It is being released as part of John’s celebration of the album ‘that changed his life’, and with the hope that it will continue to introduce fans to the original iconic recording. The album’s orchestration is by John’s long-term collaborator, and great friend, Alan Hewitt.

“November 2023 will be the 56th anniversary of 'Days Of Future Passed’. It’s incredible to look back on this album that changed my life, and that still has so much impact today on so many, and I felt that it deserved celebrating, and so I began rehearsals in 2021/2022 to bring this celebration to life on stage. What was important to me was to make this concert another milestone in the history of ‘Days Of Future Passed’, and so I asked Graeme if he would record his poetry, ‘Morning Glory’ and ‘Late Lament’, to include in my concert. Graeme gave me his blessing and said, ‘John, Keep the Moody Blues music alive’. We had a fantastic time putting the show together, with Alan, Duffy, Billy and Jason, and Jon Davison, giving me so much support and helping bring my vision to life. After the final rehearsals for the concert, I realised I should capture this new moment in time, although a reflection of the past, forever, by going into the studio and recording the album, ‘Days Of Future Passed - My Sojourn’. I am hoping that this will bring a new generation of listeners to the album, that they then may rediscover the original recording, and the beautiful vocals of Mike Pinder, Justin Hayward, Ray Thomas and myself.  I dedicate this album to Graeme, Justin, Mike and Ray, to Tony Clarke, and to all the fans that are with me on this sojourn, no matter when you joined…”  - John Lodge, July 2023

john lodge tour dates 2022

The original album, released in 1967, came about when Decca were exploring stereo and full frequency sound and wanted the band to put the melodies of Dvorak’s New World Symphony to lyrics to make a ‘sampler’ album. The band decided to follow their own path, and the rest is history… but in a reflection of this, John wanted to also explore how modern fidelity will impact the album today.  He is therefore also working on a Dolby Atmos version that will be available for streaming later this year.

Joining John on the album is his 10,000 Light Years Band, comprised of long-term collaborator Alan Hewitt (Music Director and Keyboards, plus Orchestration) and Billy Ashbaugh (Drums) from the Moody Blues touring band, together with Duffy King (Guitars) and Jason Charboneau (Cello).  Jon Davison of YES will also be joining him for his special renditions of “Nights In White Satin” and “Tuesday Afternoon” plus the magical voice of Graeme Edge will be seen and heard via a special video and recording.

The tour kicks off on July 18 at the Coronado PAC in Rockford, IL, and then continues through the Mid-West and onto the West of the USA. The show will also feature a first half set of Moody Blues’ classics, including all of John’s hits, “Ride My See-Saw”, “I’m Just A Singer (In A Rock And Roll Band)”, “Isn’t Life Strange”, to name just a few of these classic and time-enduring hits.

John Lodge Announces “Days of Future Passed” Tour

Kevin Johnson

Attention Moody Blues fans: John Lodge has announced a new 2023 tour that you won’t want to miss. The bassist/vocalist will be performing the band’s classic 1967 album Days of Future Passed in its entirety. The epic release, which spawned the timeless classic “Nights in White Satin,” is cited as one of the earliest progressive rock records.

“November 2022 sees me looking back 55 years to that week in 1967,” Lodge reflects. “As I said at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Graeme, Mike, Ray, Justin, and I, together with Tony, went into a studio, and seven days later we came out with an album that changed our lives forever.”

Moody Blues members Ray Thomas and Graeme Edge have passed on, and so Lodge will be joined by his 10,000 Light Years Band with keyboardist Alan Hewitt, drummer Ashbaugh, guitarist Duffy King, and cellist Jason Charboneau. Yes’s Jon Davison will be joining for renditions of “Nights in White Satin” and “Tuesday Afternoon” with special recorded vocal parts recorded by Edge before his passing.

As such, Lodge is reimagining the album for the present time.

“I’m sorry that the Moodies are no longer touring, and I miss my friends Ray and Graeme deeply, but as I looked back to the past, I realised that I also wanted to look forwards to the Future,” he said. “My hope is that in this show, and album, you will get to revisit 1967, but at the same time, see how this album has grown with me, and with you. Thank to you the 10,000 Light Years Band, Jon Davison and, of course, Graeme, for their belief in this project and helping bring my vision to life. And thank you to all the fans for Keeping the Faith.”

The tour kicks off February 18th in Lexington, Massachusetts and will slowly make its way all the way down the East Coast into Florida. It’s set to wrap up on March 16th aboard the Rock and Romance Cruise.

The Moody Blues’ JOHN LODGE Adds Special Show With Coachella Valley Symphony In CA 3/26

Article contributed by sro | published on tuesday, january 31, 2023.

john lodge tour dates 2022

JOHN LODGE , legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, has added a special symphony show to serve as the finale of his previously announced winter 2023 US tour, “Performs Days of Future Passed.” LODGE will perform with the Coachella Valley Symphony on March 26 at the Rancho Mirage Amphitheater in Rancho Mirage, CA. Tickets are on sale now.

This is the only date on the tour that will feature an orchestra. Go here to purchase tickets which include a limited amount of VIP packages.  For the VIP packages, go here .

LODGE, together with his 10,000 Light Years Band and the Coachella Valley Symphony, will  perform The Moody Blues’ iconic Days of Future Passed album—which marked its 55th anniversary on November 10, 2022—in its entirety, with a special recording by the late Graeme Edge and performances by Jon Davison of YES. Jon has been the lead vocalist with YES since 2012, and is also John’s son-in-law. The show will be rounded out by LODGE’s self-written classic hits “Ride My See-Saw,” “I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band),” and “Isn’t Life Strange”, all making for a truly magical evening under the stars.

This will be John’s first foray to the West Coast since he began touring with his band, and although it is a one-off, he hopes it will be the start of many more. The Moody Blues only performed ‘Days’ with a Symphony twice—once at the Hollywood Bowl, and once in Toronto—and John is looking forward to bringing the show once again to the Moody Blues fans, and perhaps some new listeners too, as they fill the amphitheater with their symphonic sound and take everyone back to 1967.

“The Coachella Valley Symphony approached me and asked me to perform Days of Future Passed with them at their new home at Rancho Mirage Amphitheater, and it intrigued me,” says LODGE. “I had been developing a full orchestra concert, but it was something for the future. However, they are a passionate community music organization, and Alan (Hewitt, who is LODGE’s Music Director and keyboardist) knew them from when he lived there, and so it seemed like a wonderful way to step my feet into the water, and a fabulous finale to the tour. I’m grateful to the 10,000 Light Years Band, Jon Davison and, of course, Graeme, for their belief in this project and helping bring my vision to life. And thank you to all the fans for Keeping the Faith.”

LODGE’s tour also coincides with the 50th anniversary of The Moody Blues’ 1973 album Seventh Sojourn (released November 17, 1972) which spent 5 weeks at Number 1 on Billboard. It featured the LODGE-penned singles “I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)” and “Isn’t Life Strange.”

The March 26th show is a special ‘one-off’ performance, and the rest of the tour will feature a full electrifying show with a first half of “hits” including tributes to all his Moodies bandmates, followed by Days of Future Passed recreated in full.

Below are the tour dates and more quotes from JOHN about the show. For tickets, VIP packages--which include a great seat, a personalized video message from John and exclusive merchandise, and more--please visit: https://johnlodge.com/tour .

For the 55th anniversary of Days of Future Passed, JOHN wanted to do something special to celebrate the album. The Moodies had embarked on a US tour in 2017 to celebrate the 50th, but regrettably stopped touring shortly after, and then, very sadly, Graeme Edge passed away in 2021. However, shortly before his passing, John and Graeme met and spent some special time together, and at that meeting Graeme told John how he hoped John would continue on with the music and keep the Moody Blues’ music alive.   JOHN returned home and realized that what he really wanted to do was revisit this iconic album, honor his lost friends Ray Thomas and Graeme Edge, and his other bandmates Justin Hayward and Mike Pinder, but also reimagine it for today. How would he do it differently? Graeme had already recorded a special version of “Late Lament” for John, and John’s great friend (and son-in-law) Jon Davison (of YES) had recorded “Nights in White Satin” for him, and so the stage was set; John went into the studio and began work with his Musical Director, Alan Hewitt, on both a new show and a new album, details of which are TBA.   Joining JOHN on stage is his 10,000 Light Years Band: long term collaborator Alan Hewitt (Music Director and Keyboards) and Billy Ashbaugh (Drums) from the Moody Blues touring band, together with Duffy King (Guitars) and Jason Charboneau (Cello). Jon Davison, lead vocalist of YES, will also light up the night with his special renditions of The Moody Blues’ “Nights in White Satin” and “Tuesday Afternoon.”

“As I said at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Graeme, Mike, Ray, Justin, and I, together with Tony, went into a studio, and seven days later we came out with an album that changed our lives forever,” says LODGE of Days of Future Passed.

He adds: “I’m sorry that the Moodies are no longer touring, and I miss my friends Ray and Graeme deeply, but as I looked back to the past, I realised that I also wanted to look forwards to the Future. My hope is that in this show, and album, you will get to revisit 1967, but at the same time, see how this album has grown with me, and with you.”

“Seventh Sojourn was the last of the first seven ‘core’ albums, and for me it was the pinnacle of the Moody Blues as a 'touring band,’ explains LODGE. The two hit singles from the album, ‘I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)’ and ‘Isn’t Life Strange,' I still feature in my solo shows. When I wrote those songs, I was younger than I am today, but it still amazes me at their continued relevance. What I do know is that they mean as much to me today as they did then, and I can see in the audience that it means the same to them, too. I always feel that we share the deep emotion--the journey, if you will--of these songs together.”
