Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf, Dubai Arrow

That there is still a spot on Dubai’s 99-acre Madinat Jumeirah estate that feels undiscovered comes as a genuine surprise, given that the resort, an Arabesque fantasy of four hotels on two kilometres of private beachfront overlooking the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah , celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2024. But checking in to one of the newly refurbished Malakiya Villas at Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf is like stepping into your own private kingdom. There are seven discrete two- and three-bedroom residences, including the 7,000 square foot Royal Malakiya Villa. Each has its own private plunge pool and terrace, and guests arrive via whisper-quiet abra rides through man-made tropical lagoons. Interiors are a swirl of soft grays and creams, leather, silk, and bouclé, offset by grand Impressionist-style artworks. In the master bedroom, the bed is so high and well-appointed that once you’ve clambered in, princess-style, you’ll be reluctant to kick back the linens to escape for breakfast. A cadre of butlers can be reached via WhatsApp 24/7 and will materialise with perfectly mixed cocktails or servings of jewel-like treats for afternoon tea. A royal affair indeed. From $521. — Clare Dight

One Only The Palm Hotel Dubai Exterior Pool

One&Only The Palm, Dubai Arrow

One&Only, The Palm Resort attracts a mix of global travellers, some from Dubai itself, others from Europe and Asia. The hotel feels like a serene oasis, no matter if you're lounging by one of the magnificent pools or winding down in your Bose speaker-equipped room. The spacious bathroom featuring Acqua Di Parma products is almost as big as the bedroom itself. So spacious, in fact, that the AdP products come in full-size, not travel-size, bottles.

Address Sky View Arrow

By name and by nature the views this hotel affords is its calling card: the Burj Khalifa and the iconic city skyline can be seen from just about every vantage point. Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure that each of the 169 rooms celebrate the sensational views. Linens are crisp and the European design aesthetic sophisticated and ultra-luxe. Rooms are incredibly spacious and boast all the comforts expected of a five-star hotel, including smart televisions with free satellite access. The use of marble in the bathroom which has a tub, shower and dual vanities elevate the appeal, and leather chairs speak to the richness and comfort of the space. Service is five-star with a friendly, welcoming approach and attention to detail.

JW Marriott Marquis Dubai hotel interior room bedroom

JW Marriott Marquis Dubai Arrow

Situated within two iconic towers along Dubai’s Business Bay, the JW Marriott Marquis has the distinction of being the tallest hotel in the world. It has a hectic, clubby lobby that's always crowded and sometimes has long waits for check in, but tea and fresh dates quell the minor inconvenience. Leisure travellers from India, as well as Americans loyal to the JW Marriott brand make up the crowd at this hotel with new, beautiful rooms.

Park Hyatt Dubai

Park Hyatt Dubai Arrow

The crowd at the Park Hyatt is truly an eclectic mix from around the world — you’ll find yourself mingling with Dutch, German and American tourists, as well as locals. Bedrooms are decorated with modern Arabian accents, and in addition to high thread count sheets and ultra-soft mattresses, feature a pillow menu for you to customise your sleep set-up. The bathroom is stocked with Bulgari toiletries and has both a standing shower and a separate bath tub.

W The Palm, Dubai Arrow

An expansive property that attracts plenty of young, beautiful people, whether they be locals looking for a staycay or international tourists with a pep in their step, this is the Gen Z newcomer of all the hotels on The Palm. Foodies are drawn to its culinary menu that includes Akira Back and Massimo Bottura’s Torno Subito, each of which consistently draws a crowd. The W is an instagrammers delight inside and out, the hotel exuding a lively, party vibe that draws a smile from all who set foot inside. A party pad in every way, each of the rooms are decked out with a combination of shimmering tiles, colourful furnishings and architectural curves, not to mention the cocktail kit and the boombox for your favorite tunes. The Arabic calligraphy on the walls give each suite a sense of place and the views add to the appeal.

Jumeirah Al Naseem Hotel Dubai Exterior Pool

Jumeirah Al Naseem at Madinat Jumeirah Arrow

Many of the 430 rooms at Al Naseem, the most modern accommodation in the gargantuan Madinat Jumeirah complex, have views of the Burj Al Arab. If you’re a high-roller, the 5,300-square-foot Royal Suite has two bedrooms, a movie room, a gym and private landscaped gardens. Most other rooms have extended private terraces, too.

Taj Dubai UAE

Taj Dubai Arrow

Unlike so many other Dubai hotels that are melanges of sleek wood and toned-down neutrals, Taj has bold pops of rich jewel tones juxtaposed against Indian-influenced designs. Some of the 296 rooms have views of the Burj Khalifa, and the property, popular among the jet-setting family set, is just five minutes from the Dubai Mall. Whatever you do, don't skip breakfast, available through room service or at Tesoro, the Taj’s all-day restaurant.

OneOnly Royal Mirage hotel dubai pool exterior

One&Only Royal Mirage Arrow

If you stay in the hotel's Gold Club level, you'll have access to a special lounge with breakfast, dinner, light snacks and cocktails on offer. The club level also includes an afternoon tea, likely for hoards of British travellers. Perhaps our favourite thing about the rooms here though are their fragrances and bouquet of flowers on display.

Armani Amal Armani Hotel interior lobby Dubai

Armani Hotel Dubai Arrow

Inside the world's tallest tower, Giorgio Armani’s first hotel property is as glam as you'd expect from the Italian designer. With 11 different sizes across the 160 total guest rooms, rooms vary, but all are serene with chocolate, taupe and grey furnishings. High-tech iPads control lighting and curtains, and the branding here is strong.

RitzCarlton Dubai Exterior hotel pool

The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai Arrow

This sprawling beach resort from the Ritz-Carlton has the look and feel of a tranquil Moorish villa, complete with a private beach. Despite the feel of a luxurious retreat, there are abundant restaurants with walking distance and a metro station less than a mile away. The experience is faintly Arab-inspired, from the rose macarons served upon arrival to the geometric Islamic carvings on the window screens in the rooms. Splurging on the club lounge means in addition to daily breakfast and lunch, you’ll also be treated to Lebanese wine, mezze, and frozen "shisha" meringues.

W Dubai Al Habtoor City Hotel Interior lounge

V Hotel Dubai, Curio Collection by Hilton Arrow

The V rooms resemble tiny spaceships thanks to lights glowing from the beds and built-in white banquettes. The hotel crowd skews young, hip, and party-focused, which makes sense given the V Lounge on the 32nd floor and bar counter-equipped suites perfect for in-room dining and entertaining.

Raffles The Palm Dubai

Raffles the Palm Dubai Arrow

As palatial as it gets, this resplendent hotel is like something out of a fairytale. On arrival, the lobby is surrounded by super cars, setting the tone for the glitz within. This is a stay guests won’t forget in a hurry. As big as you’ll get in the Emirate, rooms are spacious and aesthetically designed with a regal aesthetic in mind. Decked out in platinum or gold tones, each room has a glittering chandelier, its own terrace and an elaborate stately marble bathroom with tub, shower, dual vanities and luxe toiletries.

Burj Al Arab Jumeirah Hotel Dubai Exterior infinity pool

Burj Al Arab Jumeirah Arrow

It was a smart move, even in those far-off pre-Instagram days, to design this hotel with such a distinctive silhouette. Since rising off Jumeirah Beach in 1999, the Burj has been the symbol for Dubai as much as the Eiffel Tower is for Paris. And despite fierce competition — the regal One&Only, superchic Bulgari — this homegrown star is still regarded with a mixture of affection and awe. Arriving here and looking upward can make a head spin: The atrium rises 590 feet, a dancing waterfall flanked by aquariums. And the hotel has found fresh ways to innovate, with Michael Ellis, formerly of the Michelin Guide, heading up the restaurants, and Robuchon disciples bringing French finesse to 27th-floor Al Muntaha. While the pool terrace is a lesson in pared-back luxe, the rest of the show is a Baz Luhrmann-style production, with crystal ceilings, silk wallpaper, and gold-plated iPads. In a land of record-breaking one-upmanship, this place still feels audacious. Doubles from $400.

Bab Al Shams, A Rare Finds Desert Resort, Dubai Arrow

Bab Al Shams reveals herself slowly, her sandstone exterior – an ode to traditional Emirati forts – half-hidden by spindly date palms and sand dunes. In a city that so often leans into excess, the grande dame of Dubai ’s desert resorts works her magic with restraint.

For almost two decades, UAE residents have made the 45-minute pilgrimage from the city up Al Qudra Road – past outlandishly shaped man-made lakes, swirling cycle paths and endurance horse-racing tracks – to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and indulgent weekends at Bab Al Shams. The city may be creeping closer, but this is still the place we come to get away from it all. The resort’s much-photographed infinity pool, which drops off into a vast sandy expanse in a paradox of elemental opposites, is the draw for many. For me, it’s the quiet, which is all-enveloping and absolute. The resort comes into its own as the sun sets, the silhouettes of sand dunes framed in pinks and mauves; bamboo torches flickering along the perimeter and lanterns creating a play of light and shadow in outdoor passageways.

Now Bab Al Shams is fresh from a 10-month, no-holds-barred renovation, with new bragging rights as the first property in the Rare Finds Hotels & Resorts collection by the Kerzner group (Atlantis, One&Only). The exterior remains largely unchanged, the deep solid walls, arches, alcoves and geometric patterning lifted directly from the UAE’s vernacular architecture. But interiors have been transformed by a deft hand, the gilded ornamentalism that characterises the country’s Arabesque-inspired resorts forsaken for a lighter touch. The lobby, once a warren of dimly lit, compartmentalised spaces, has been opened out and brightened up. In my terrace garden room, instead of dark woods and heavy upholstery, nods to tradition come in delicate mother-of-pearl detailing on arched mirrors, brass studs on cupboard doors and majlis-style seating in a corner nook. Teal accents flit from headboards and furniture piping to diamond-shaped mosaic tiles in the rain shower.

The hotel is unassuming, but not devoid of spectacle. At Al Hadheerah, a colossal open-air restaurant, nightly performances accompany the Arabian classic dishes: a belly dancer, whirling dervish, musicians, singers and even a re-enactment of a Bedouin caravan with camels and horses crisscrossing a bordering desert plateau. Cooking stations serve lamb salona and chicken biryani, and the spirited Egyptian chef de cuisine takes great delight in showing guests the underground contraption used to prepare his seven-hour slow-cooked lamb ouzi. More sedate meals are served at the Mediterranean-inspired Zala or Pan-Asian Anwā, a prime sunset spot.

Bab Al Shams remains loyal to her desert environment. In the newly opened standalone spa, home to male and female hammams carefully crafted from green-veined Cipollino Nuvolato marble, some treatments use De L’Arta, a locally grown skincare line featuring Tetraena qatarensis, a shrub found in abundance around the hotel. On a recent visit, a morning safari took us through Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve, over powder-soft pale-yellow dunes, past camels feasting on desert grasses, regally horned Arabian oryx, skittish gazelles and the season’s first migratory flamingoes. Indian rollers flitted between ghaf trees and lizards scuttled off into hidden burrows. It was a reminder, as Bab Al Shams has always been, that there is immense natural beauty in the UAE, if you only stop to look. From $417.— Selina Denman

Raffles Dubai Arrow

An architectural landmark, Raffles Dubai channels an Egyptian pyramid both inside and out. Signature Rooms are among the largest in Dubai at nearly 800 square-feet and have private terraces overlooking the city. Rooms have marble and pale gold accents, patterned rugs, and pops of burgundy, plus mood lighting that highlights Arabic-inspired fixtures.

Habtoor Grand Resort Hotel Dubai

Habtoor Grand Resort, Autograph Collection Arrow

The rooms here feel like little jewel boxes, decorated in relaxing hues of blue and seaform and trimmed with crisp white. King Club rooms have expansive floor-to-ceiling windows with chaise longues, though all rooms have a sitting area, mini bar, electric kettle, and a safe (some have vases of fresh bamboo, too).

The Meydan Dubai Hotel

The Meydan Hotel Arrow

On the outskirts of Dubai and across from the Meydan ractrack, this hotel is popular with horse-racing junkies and business travellers in town for a conference. It's impossible to miss out on the action if there's a race going on—all rooms overlook the racetrack and have TV monitors installed in both the bathroom and entryway. The rooms are unsurprisingly high-tech, especially the bathroom where you can control the water temperature and pressure at the touch of a button.

Palazzo Versace Dubai Hotel Interior Lobby

Palazzo Versace Dubai Arrow

Very tanned couples come to this opulent Italian villa for a Versace-branded stay. The deluxe and premier rooms are a refreshing departure from the sea of neutrals that plagues so many other Dubai hotels. In the bathroom, Roman-inspired tile mosaics are embedded into the walls, while more tile is inlayed in the marble floors. You’ll want to sneak home as many of the Versace-branded toiletries as you can fit in your carry-on.

Jumeirah Al Qasr at Madinat Jumeirah Arrow

It’s an opulent Arabian palace: picturesque walkways, lined with palm trees, and an ornate gold-and-black marble-columned lobby, adorned with mashrabiya (carved latticework). Al Qasr in particular takes the palatial vibes to the next level.

The fourth-floor pool area is made for Instagram: white sunbeds, hot pink towels and breathtaking views of Burj Khalifa. (It turns clubby after dark, with shisha and a DJ.) Breakfast is included and the buffet features a little of everything — pastries, smoothies, and hot and cold dishes from various cuisines.

Habtoor Palace Dubai, LXR Hotels & Resorts Arrow

The Habtoor Palace exudes a sense of Frenchness, from the beaux-arts building and Louis XV-style furniture to the rooms that resemble Parisian apartments and the burger with foie gras. The butler programme goes above and beyond with packing services and garment pressing — the butlers are accessible via WhatsApp any time of day.

Palace Downtown Dubai

Palace Downtown Arrow

Built on a lake opposite of Burj Khalifa, Palace Downtown immediately reminds you of a Moroccan riad with its elegant archways, rose petal-adorned lobby, thoughtful reflecting pools and palm-lined walkways. The public spaces have decidedly Arabian touches like inlaid tables, lanterns, and keyhole doorways.

The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina Arrow

Everything in Dubai is grand, but the Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi's elegant and vast lobby is truly grand with plush furnishings, fresh flowers and a sunlit atrium. The hotel has eight on-site restaurants, and its Saturday's Bubbalicious brunch is one of the best in town.

Fairmont the Palm, Dubai Arrow

Set on the trunk of Dubai’s famous Palm, The Fairmont opened in 2012. With its own impressive beach and large rooms with views, it’s remained a popular choice for all kinds of travellers who want a taste of Dubai luxury. The rooms are clean and contemporary, if a little simple. Decor isn’t over the top here — just a touch of Arabian latticework and a few pops of blue.

XVA Art Hotel Dubai Exterior Patio

XVA Art Hotel Arrow

Situated in the Al Fahidi Historical District, the boutique XVA Art Hotel is a unique contrast to Dubai's ubiquitous ultra-modern hotels. Owner Mona Hauser has created a remarkable 13-room inn inside the former home of Dubai's Seddiqi family, world-famous luxury watch dealers. The individually designed rooms are filled with thoughtful Persian details and works from top Middle Eastern artists. There's even an on-site gallery, which exhibits both emerging and established Middle Eastern contemporary artists. Don't be surprised if you earmark an artist who later shows at international art fairs such as Art London and Art Basel Hong Kong.

Atlantis, The Palm Arrow

Dubai's Atlantis looks almost identical to its Bahamian sibling, which is to say: magical. The first hotel to inhabit Palm Jumeirah, it’s situated in the best location. The massive lobby is bustling at any time of day, but take a moment to pause and admire the common space's Dale Chihuly centrepiece comprises more than 600 pieces of blown glass. The resort truly has it all: a massive waterpark, an aquarium, luxury shopping and more restaurants than you can count on both hands. If you have a herd of kids that you want to keep entertained and happy, this is the place to go.

Dukes The Palm, a Royal Hideaway Hotel Arrow

London's Dukes hotel attracts mainly English tourists to its modern property in Dubai. Everything is new here, from the super-soft beds and linens to the high-tech bathrooms. The British-style hospitality is refreshing compared to the area's over-the-top chic properties.

Bvlgari Resort Dubai

Bulgari Resort Dubai Arrow

What makes the Bulgari stand out is its location on its own seahorse-shaped man-made island, and its low-slung layout, a pleasing retort to the city’s ubiquitous canyons of skyscrapers. This is down to the group’s Milan-based architects, who anchored the hotel so it separates two bays: one an oh-so-quiet stretch of beach lined with villas; the other a super-smart marina with a sweep of restaurants and the Bulgari Yacht Club — a first for the brand.

The St Regis Dubai, The Palm hotel delivers a dose of New York-style luxury to one of Dubai’s most exclusive neighbourhoods. Its 290 rooms and suites come in three categories, all of them celebrating views of The Palm’s fronds and the city skyline, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. Although there are no terraces, guests can enjoy Frette linen and down-filled pillows and bathrooms boast tubs you’ll get lost in from which you can continue to drink in the fabulous views. The decor is sophisticated with gold and cream accents, leather bed heads and flecked carpet.

Jumeirah Zabeel Saray

Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Arrow

Located on the West Crescent of the Palm, beachside Jumeirah Zabeel Saray exudes regional Arabian style, with hand-painted murals, lavish gold fixtures and other Ottoman-inspired touches. A private beach, Thalassotherapy pools, and an opulent spa round out the experience.

Mandarin Oriental Jumeira Dubai

Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai Arrow

The epitome of multicultural, modern Dubai, this beachfront property is all about maximum relaxation by day and sophisticated shimmering intrigue by night. Not only does the property provide a sophisticated broad-ranging culinary menu, but also has an exclusive Club Lounge. The lobby is breathtaking from the outset with its firefly-like glow on trees adorned with 900 lights, and highlighted by the crisp white marble floor.  The first venture for the Asia-based Mandarin Oriental group in the United Arab Emirates, the 256-room property was architecturally designed by Jeffrey A Wilkes, a man who is also responsible for the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok and the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai. Families are well catered for here with the Little Nomads kids club offering respite for parents in need of some down time; meals are free for children under the age of four and babysitting is available upon request.

Address Montgomerie hotel dubai exterior pool

Address Montgomerie Arrow

Set on the outskirts of Dubai, Address Montgomerie is a lush golf resort managed by Troon Golf, the same firm responsible for fairway-first resorts from Scotland to Arizona. The low-slung white buildings and manicured emerald green course are a distinct departure from the sparkling high-rises just a short drive away. With just 21 rooms, Address Montgomerie is never crowded or hectic.

Caesars Palace Dubai

Caesars Palace Dubai Arrow

The approach up to the first Caesars Palace property outside of Las Vegas lays the foundation for what’s to come, you don’t know where to look. Its position beneath the world’s tallest observation wheel, and the razzle dazzle it exudes impresses before you’ve even made it to the check-in counter. A casino-less Caesars Palace may seem crazy to some, but there’s plenty that makes up for it here: Designed to reflect a modern take on the Roman Empire, the twin-hotel property boasts its own private residences and a beach club, and exudes flourishes of Romanesque design. The butler service afforded to guests who book suite stays is a nice touch, while the floor to ceiling windows provide a window to views of the city beyond.

ME Dubai

ME Dubai Arrow

In a city of 160,000 hotel rooms, it is increasingly challenging to stand out. But here we have the world’s only hotel designed both inside and out by the late great Dame Zaha Hadid, and with an accolade like that, it had to deliver. The Opus, a gleaming glass structure punctured by an amorphous void that looks like an ice cube melting under the Middle Eastern sun, has sweeping curves and an organic-yet-space-age aesthetic that informs both the structure and a stay in it. The ME by Meliá group brings its artistic bent with a gallery space hosting rotating exhibitions and public areas decorated with vibrant canvases painted on site by Barcelona artist Mr Dripping. The brand’s Spanish roots are also lightly woven throughout — Natura Bisse toiletries and spa treatments, tapas at Central, and a poolside parrillada producing tantalising grilled aromas for adjacent restaurant Deseo. But ME doesn’t lean on paying homage to its roots or even that of the Arabian city it’s in — a relief in the UAE where “modern Arabia” tends to be the styling default. Beyond dipping bedrooms in hues of the nearby desert (in the Aura category) and those of the buzzy city at night (in the Vibe rooms), ME plays by its own rules.

Brand new ultraluxury hotel Atlantis The Royal is situated on the world famous Palm in Dubai with 17 restaurants and...

Atlantis the Royal, Dubai Arrow

Any retreat that bills itself as “the most ultra-luxury experiential resort in the world” is not going for subtlety – but here, that’s very much the point. Sitting alongside its famous sister, Atlantis the Palm, on Dubai’s iconic Palm Jumeirah, Atlantis the Royal’s eye-catching curves contain 795 rooms, suites, and penthouses, 17 restaurants and bars, a 1.2-mile beach, and more than 90 pools. Beyoncé performed at its opening celebration, and Tiësto wrote its theme song. (Yes, it has its own soundtrack.) Guests enter the lobby between walls of fire and water, conceived by Moshe Safdie, who created the Rain Vortex at Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport. The spaces are vast, with light bouncing off enormous swathes of marble and massive fish tanks; stately internal boulevards lined with luxury boutiques crisscross the property. Up in the rooms, the mood is calmer, with soothing palettes and surprisingly minimalist decor accentuating views, from the Palm-facing balconies especially. The suites and penthouses elevate the experience even further with landscaped terraces and glass-walled pools.

The best hotels in Dubai

By Lauren Burvill

25hours Hotel One Central

Just over 30 years ago, the Dubai World Trade Centre stood tall and lonesome as the only skyscraper in the city. Today, there are over 200 towers within the bigger-is-better desert fortress that is  Dubai , each addition offering a unique jewel to the city’s crown in the form of architecture-meets-art creations and sky-high structures – including the tallest building in the world. Within this skyline are also some of the best hotels in the world, where the boundaries of luxury are pushed and prodded higher and higher with each opening. It’s not all gold leaf and white gloves – although there is a lot of that – some of the best hotels in Dubai are found on the ground, lining the golden beaches or even out in the desert dunes. Here we share our favourite Dubai hotels.

How we choose the best hotels in Dubai

Every hotel on this list has been selected independently by our editors and written by a Condé Nast Traveller journalist who knows the destination and has stayed at that property. When choosing hotels, our editors consider both luxury properties and boutique and lesser-known boltholes that offer an authentic and insider experience of a destination. We're always looking for beautiful design, a great location and warm service – as well as serious sustainability credentials. We update this list regularly as new hotels open and existing ones evolve.

The St Regis Dubai, The Palm Arrow

From its position on the trunk of Dubai 's famous Palm Jumeirah, this hotel delivers a dose of New York -style luxury to the emirate in one the most exclusive neighbourhoods. Taking up the first 18 floors of the 52-storey tower, the hotel shares the building with one of the city’s newest attractions – Aura SkyPool Lounge – and The View Dubai. Balancing local influences with the New York-style glamour we’ve come to expect from St Regis hotels, of its 290 rooms and suites there are three categories, all of them celebrating views of The Palm’s fronds and the city skyline, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. Although there are no terraces, guests can enjoy Frette linen and down-filled pillows and bathrooms boast tubs you’ll get lost in from which you can continue to drink in the fabulous views.

The spot for a drink at any St Regis property is the St Regis Bar; it’s the heart of each property and is renowned for its signature Bloody Mary. Carefully curated menus with woodfired seafood and quality cut meats are paired perfectly by the in-house mixologists, while breakfast is expansive in this 1920s-style space that stretches the hotel’s third floor. Those ladies who enjoy a high tea will revel in the one presented by Her by Carol Astor, but it does only welcome women, while for poolside snacks, Dip Pool Bar has that covered. Melinda Healy

Exterior of One Zaabeel home of OneOnly One Za'abeel hotel

First in: One&Only One Za'abeel Arrow

Architecturally, One&Only One Za’abeel is undeniably striking: the hotel sits in one of two imposing towers linked via a cantilever. Once inside, this boulevard-style bridge called The Link is Tardis-like, with room within its three storeys for beautifully designed restaurants by a roster of Michelin-star-earning chefs. Don't let the rather self-conscious moniker “vertical resort” put you off; beneath the shine, the One&Only brand values are resoundingly present: warmly intuitive service, considered luxury and a sense of occasion. It might be the glass curtain walls drawing the eye to the horizon that make the rooms feel wonderfully spacious, but there's enough floorspace even in entry-level rooms for a king-sized bed, stretched daybed and bathroom with standalone tub; 85-square-metre “grand” category rooms have a separate dressing room. Jean-Micheal Gathy's interiors are decorated in pale sand, taupe and gold tones, with marble floors and silken carpets.

Fine dining is perhaps the biggest lure for this address, with a host of starry venues from leading chefs in The Link, including La Dame De Pic by Anne-Sophie Pic; DuangDy by Bo Songvisava and Dylan Jones of Bangkok’s Bo.Lan; Sagetsu by Tetsuya Wakuda; QABU by Paco Morales; and Arrazuna by Turkish chef Mehmet Gürs. The spa is the first Middle Eastern Longevity Hub by Clinique La Prairie, the Swiss clinic that’s pioneered the now-omnipresent concept of medicalised wellness since the 1930s. Set over three floors, expect aesthetic and wellness treatments alongside longevity analysis to determine how best to boost your body’s ageing defences. Down at The Garden on level 4, Bali is the inspiration for a series of sculpted rice-paddy-style, family pools with a swim-up bar. The landscaping is really appealing, with decorative water features and tropical foliage to cool the pool deck, and lifeguards are conspicuously on-hand. Clare Dight

The exterior of the Foster Partnersdesigned hotel

The Lana, Dorchester Collection, Dubai Arrow

The Lana represents the much-anticipated debut of the Dorchester Collection in the Middle East. This new, intimate, 225-room hotel in Downtown Dubai is the epitome of “anti-bling” – and a sign that Dubai really is able to hold its own among the big-name global cities that the Dorchester Collection already operates in. It’s clear that architecture firm Foster + Partners designed this 30-storey hotel around the views: the circular Marasi Marina sits in the foreground, its inky blue waters reflecting the lights of Downtown Dubai’s skyscrapers at night; and Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, reaches into the clouds just beyond. Suites consist of a bedroom, living and dining area, entertainment room, kitchenette, walk-in wardrobe and dressing area, and a bathroom where a large bathtub is wrapped in white and grey-veined marble.

But it’s on the micro level that The Lana really sets itself apart: in the 100 per cent goose-down duvets; Dyson Supersonic hair dryer; the heated toilet seats. Bed linen is custom made by Frette and mattresses are Vispring, preferred supplier to Buckingham Palace. Dubai’s first Dior spa is due to open here soon. For the hotel's restaurant, Riviera, Jean Imbert has created a soulful ode to the coastal cuisines of France and Italy, with a menu that journeys from La Spezia down to Saint Tropez , via Portofino, Genova, Monaco and Nice. (Yes, it has its own soundtrack.) Guests enter the lobby between walls of fire and water, conceived by Moshe Safdie, who created the Rain Vortex at Singapore ’s Jewel Changi Airport. Rooms from about £911. Nicola Chilton

Bab Al Shams, A Rare Finds Desert Resort

Since 2004, this desert resort has been a favourite of residents and visitors for its mix of family-friendly fun , lush gardens, and Arabian architecture. Freshly reopened after an extensive renovation, Bab Al Shams is looking better – and brighter – than ever. The dark furnishings and textiles have given way to a new design aesthetic that features a lighter colour palette and a more contemporary mood, all while remaining true to its Arabian roots. Hardcore fans can still find some of the original elements, albeit with a modern style and renewed energy. The much-loved swimming pools on the edge of the sands are now flanked by fresh new restaurants, including Mediterranean Zala and rooftop Anwā for Asian dishes and sunset views. A brand new fleet of Land Rover Discoveries is also on hand for desert excursions. While you’re bouncing through the dunes in the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve, you’ll likely spot herds of endangered Arabian oryxes and wandering sand gazelles. Don’t come expecting a golden sea of towering dunes – you need to head 300 kilometres inland to the Empty Quarter for that – but for a taste of desert adventure a short drive from downtown Dubai, you can’t do much better than this. Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai

Jumeirah Al Qasr

Featured on our 2023 Gold List of the best hotels in the world

I never expected to fall so hard for Jumeirah Al Qasr. This marble-clad, gold-encrusted palace at the nucleus of Jumeirah’s multi-resort beach enclave is the polar opposite of the less-is-more look that I, a self-proclaimed sophisticate, usually gravitate to. But within hours after checking in, I had already bought into its arabesque fantasy, and by the next morning, I fancied myself a veritable royal. It's impossible not to feel princeling-special when you have an army of staff ready with mint tea at the drop of a hat, or when you float down the resort’s labyrinthine canals in an abra boat. Wander the hallways, with their Arabian-inspired columns and mashrabiya latticework. And the more than 50 cafés, bars, and restaurants spread across the palm-tufted compound cater to every spur-of-the-moment whim. The rooms, too, are fit for a sheik, with bathrooms replete with marble tubs. Rooms were refreshed in 2018 with mother-of-pearl inlays. And then there’s that balcony view: a city of sand-coloured wind catchers poking out from a meticulously landscaped sprawl of palm trees and swirling pools, backdropped by Dubai’s gleaming skyline in the hazy distance. At first glance, Al Qasr might look like a Disney-fied bubble in the desert; spend a few days here, and you'll find that its royal hospitality is the real deal.  From about £265. Chris Schalkx

One&Only Royal Mirage

At a time when luxury properties seem to be cutting back on small things they think guests won’t notice, One & Only Royal Mirage remains unfalteringly consistent. From in-room details like fresh flowers and thoughtful amenities like poolside iced fruit and a cleaning service for sunglasses, it all adds up to a pleasing sense of indulgence. Enter the marbled lobby (to chimes from a welcoming gong), where intuitive staff perceive your every need without ever being annoying or intrusive. When the original Palace opened in 1998, on the shores of the emirate’s Jumeirah Beach, its traditional domes and arches elegantly surpassed the ruling family’s flanking beach residences. Even though it has increased its footprint to include the Arabian Court and Residence & Spa, there’s an innate sense of space and privacy, undoubtedly helped by 65 acres of meticulously landscaped grounds. Unsurprisingly, golf buggies are the vehicles du jour, saving Loro Piana-clad guests from taking too many steps to the eight restaurants, two of which are overseen by three-Michelin-starred chef Mauro Colagreco. Amid Dubai’s showboating, posturing pretenders to its crown, One&Only Royal Mirage, Dubai, quite simply reigns supreme.  From about £681 per night. Stella Rosato

Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach

Featured on our 2022 Gold List of the best hotels in the world

There aren’t too many places that can offer a true beach and city break – but this elegant compound on Jumeirah’s crisp-white shores manages to feel like part of Dubai while also being gently removed from it. Mostly, the hotel sits on the serene side of Middle Eastern opulence, with marble, Murano chandeliers and gold-leaf ceilings cut through with calming, earthy tones inspired by the desert and Arabian Gulf. Staff around the curving, shadow-draped lagoon pools seem ever-ready with citrus shooters and blueberry muffins, and there’s often a procession of couples heading towards the orb-like sculpture by the beach, fire-lit as the sun goes down. The spa has treatments designed by Swiss anti-ageing guru Pauline Burgener, and much of the food runs fresh – from detox salads at vegetarian Folia to yellowtail ceviche at Sea Fu. But this is still Dubai, so there’s also room for the flash of Nusr-Et, the steakhouse created by divisive Turkish showman Salt Bae. Jumeirah is the closest beach to Downtown, and the Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa still loom large, best viewed from the rooftop Mercury Lounge, with its Arabian archways framing the twinkling city. I can’t think of a better way to see and do Dubai. By Alice Holtham

25hours Hotel One Central

Featured on our 2022 Hot List of the best new hotels in the world

Forget the glitz and glam, this cool new un-Dubai hotel is a hub for creatives, digital nomads, and those in the know. There’s plenty of co-working spaces, a lobby filled with thousands of books for all to read, a podcast recording room, a pottery studio and desks filled with typewriters and paints for guests and visitors to get creative. In the daytime communal spaces are filled with savvy business owners, artists, trendy expats and Emiratis looking for something different. Hotel guests spend most days lounging on beds and bean bags around the rooftop pool, nibbling tacos and sipping margaritas from the pool bar. Swim to the pool's edge for the best views of the newly opened Museum of the Future which lights up in the evening. Come evening, once you've had a full body massage at The Extra Hour Spa, and your hair styled at the on-site hairdressers, you can choose from five restaurants and bars within the hotel. Dressed up guests should venture downstairs to the delicious Indian restaurant Tandoor Tina before heading up to the roof for sun-down punchy cocktails at Monkey Bar. For a more casual vibe, you can get a large steine and bratwurst at Bavarian bar Ernst – the first hotel serving pork in Dubai.

The hotel has 434 rooms and suites split over multiple levels, with interiors on the first floor public spaces coloured beige like the desert. As you head higher up, more colours are introduced to each floor as a homage to Dubai rising from the desert and becoming the futuristic hub it is today. Room interiors are modern and playful – there’s hammocks, freestanding baths to roll into from bed, walls filled with local photography and polaroid cameras should you wish to buy film from the lobby and snap away. Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort

Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort

Featured on our 2022 Hot List of the best new hotels in the world

The Anantara World Islands have been in the making for a long time, starting and stopping over the decades due to financial and environmental reasons. Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort is the first resort to open on the man-made archipelago, and it’s hard to imagine that any subsequent properties will afford better views of Dubai’s glittering skyline. This is the kind of place you get to and then stay put, exploring the water by way of jet skis and hydrofoils. And though it’s still in its soft opening phase, the family-friendly suites and incredibly lovely staff are already heading in the right direction.

FIVE Palm Jumeirah

FIVE Palm Jumeirah

If you want to join the party people, then head to FIVE at the base of Jumeirah Palm. This place puts music at the forefront of its offering. From daytime pool parties with giant bubbles and live saxophone to sunset beach raves with world-class DJs, and late nights in the blingiest of nightclubs, you can dance from morning to night in the hotel that never sleeps. When you do feel the need to hit the pillow, you can do so in stylish rooms – all bronze fixtures and fittings, and elegant Art Deco bars. Open the doors to your sea-facing terrace if you want to nod off to distant hypnotic house music, or close them for cocooned silence.

Set in an architecturally striking building, which curves like an amphitheatre around a pristine stretch of beachfront overlooking Dubai Marina, the hotel offers plenty of downtime, too. There are hydrotherapy jets in the rooftop spa pool and talented therapists working away the knots in tired muscles. Italian al-fresco lunches take place at poolside Cinque restaurant, while you can eat sushi with a view of the Dubai skyline in the Penthouse or dine on dim sum at Maiden Shanghai. Whether you’re eating tempura seafood on the beach or slurping a power juice at breakfast, the food here is excellent. And if you order bottles of booze, you’ll be treated to elaborate dances, sparklers and perhaps some drumming, so that everyone in the room knows you are getting the party started.  Antonia Windsor

Bulgari Resort Dubai

Bulgari Resort Dubai

The fifth addition to the Bulgari Hotels & Resorts portfolio, following Milan, Bali, London and Beijing, Bulgari Resort Dubai was designed by Italian-based Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel with the same perfection as the brand’s jewellery. A stay here melts understated Italian minimalism with ramped-up extravagance, with low-key luxe rooms that are dressed in an almost all-Italian catalogue of furnishings. The private island location makes for thrilling views of the city’s skyline plus the benefits of its own marina and yacht club, a first for the hotel brand and for Dubai. The jewel in the crown is the 25-metre indoor pool, with giddying ocean and city views, backed by a Vitality Pool lined with shimmering green and real gold mosaic tiles. This (relative) low-rise stands tall amongst a sea of skyscrapers thanks to its boundary-breaking design by the late, Pritzker-awarded architect Dame Zaha Hadid. Found within The Opus tower, the curved glass structure means entering the bedrooms is like stepping onto the bridge of a super-slick spaceship, with curved walls further accentuated by wavy furnishings, puddles of plush rugs and a bathroom that verges on trippy. Alongside Hadid’s specially designed furniture, there’s also a keen focus on art and curated exhibitions throughout the hotel. The combination draws a creative crowd, especially to the second floor restaurant Central which serves up traditional Spanish tapas. Head here in the mornings for a breakfast feast including sweet and savoury à la carte options. For more, see our full  review of ME Dubai .

Al Faya Lodge

A Dubai hotel that’s not in the city itself, Al Faya Lodge is a mirage-like destination stay that brings a unique glamping experience to the desert. Located on the lonely Al Faya Road an hour east of Dubai, the mountainside plot was once just a dusty petrol pit stop in the 1960s. In 2016, government developers set about an ambitious plan to transform the derelict cement blocks into a five-room lodge retreat. The result is a pioneering breed of boutique design hotels in Sharjah, where rooms feature stargazing skylights and fire pits, and the spa has a sea saltwater pool and Himalayan salt therapy room. Mandarin Oriental Dubai

There are plenty of beachside hotels in Dubai but few can claim to be as shiny and well placed as the Mandarin Oriental, which opened up on a private stretch of Jumeirah in 2019. The hotel is shiny new and shiny shiny, with rows of towering bronze trees with leaf-shaped crystal bulbs lining the lobby, creating a glittering fairy forest that leads out to the beach. The other talking point is Tasca, one of the six restaurants in the hotel, headed up by Portuguese chef José Avillez of two-Michelin-starred Belcanto restaurant in Lisbon . Jumeirah Mina A'Salam

This is Dubai insider’s hotel – cooler and more understated than most of its neighbours. Jumeirah itself is a heavyweight within the city’s scene and the name behind many of its most well-respected restaurants and residences in Dubai. Mina A’Salam is one of the nine Jumeirah hotels, a 40-hectare project designed to look like a traditional Arabian hub, blended seamlessly into the gateway of the mighty Madinat Jumeirah souk, where bougainvillaea frame the white walls and everything is linked by canals. The hotel also includes Dar Al Masyaf, a cluster of summerhouses beloved by Hollywood stars, while the private beach, one of the finest in the city, has hosted many Dubai International Film Festival opening parties. The St. Regis Downtown, Dubai

Located on the expansive Dubai Water Canal, The St. Regis Downtown combines the spirit of its  New York  sister property with the very best of what the city’s modern financial Downtown district has to offer. In terms of location, all of the famed landmarks are within easy reach, from the world’s largest  shopping  mall, the Dubai Mall, to the world’s tallest building – Burj Khalifa. Inside, the aesthetic is classic through a Middle Eastern lens. Rooms are generous in size, each with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook either the Dubai Water Canal or Burj Khalifa – two very good options – and access to the legendary St Regis butler service as standard. The hotel also has the first St. Regis Spa in the Middle East, impressively spread across six therapy suites including a Hammam. Signature treatments include a purifying 24-carat gold facial (this is Dubai, remember) along with flotation pod therapy and a traditional Moroccan Hammam. Best Places to Stay in Dubai: 2024 Dubai Accommodation Guide

Picking the best areas of Dubai to stay for every type of traveller and every budget

The city of Dubai has been transformed only over a matter of decades from a small fishing village and trading port to one of the mega-cities of the Middle East.

Renowned for its glitzy and glamourous exterior and Arabian allure – not to mention year-round sunshine – Dubai is far more than just a stopover city these days. From families to couples, business travellers to backpackers, and everything in between, modern Dubai has so much to offer.

But where will you find the best places to stay in Dubai? With over 800 hotels and around 150,000 rooms on offer (as at end of 2023) – let alone rental properties and apartments- it’s tough to know where to start your Dubai accommodation search. Your decision will likely depend on:

  • Your reason for visiting Dubai
  • How many are in your travelling party
  • Budget to spend on accommodation

We are firstly going to take you through the layout of the city so you can understand how the different areas of Dubai relate to one another, then we will jump into the detail of top Dubai hotels to suit:

  • Business Travellers to Dubai
  • Short city stopovers in Dubai
  • Families on Vacation in Dubai
  • Theme Park Fans visiting Dubai
  • Budget Travellers to Dubai
  • Wow factor hotels to inspire your trip to Dubai

Best Areas to Stay in Dubai – Dubai City Layout

Dubai is a long, spread-out city largely based along a 40-kilometre or so stretch of the Arabian Gulf coast.  In recent years, development has very much encroached inland on the desert, and there are more “up and coming areas” than there are food trucks (though that can be a close tie in Dubai).

Where to stay in Dubai Accommodation Map

There is no city centre of Dubai per se, so you should base where you stay around the type of Dubai trip you are after.  Unlike many other cities, a lot of Dubai is not walkable, which makes choosing the best area in Dubai even more essential.

The location you choose as a Dubai visitor can be key to your Dubai experience. While the public transportation network in Dubai is reasonably comprehensive, it largely operates around the strip of Sheikh Zayed Road, which runs through the heart of the city parallel to the coast. You don’t want to spend half your time traipsing across the city, so plan wisely.

We would recommend for tourists on longer stays to get themselves well placed for transport and with relaxation facilities.  If you are on shorter stays, place yourself nearer to the airport.  There is certainly no “one size fits all” experience for Dubai – and yes budget plays a big part

Don’t forget to check out if there is a Dubai Pass to fit your sightseeing needs in Dubai

Top Tourist Areas of Dubai

Let’s look at each of these areas in much more detail and top accommodation choices for each budget.

You can jump straight to our detailed hotel guides for every area of Dubai here.

Places to stay in Dubai – Downtown Dubai & Business Bay

Think the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mal, nd all the buildings that sit around these top attractions. You’ll be surrounded by sweeping skyscrapers, the Dubai Opera and all the amenities the Dubai Mall has to offer, from its epic Aquarium to the Olympic-sized ice skating rink, cinemas, KidZania, VR Park, and even the Burj Park nestled in between. Not to mention the nightly light & sound Dubai fountain show that’s wowed visiting crowds for years.

You are also in good proximity to the airport and the older historic parts of Dubai. The downtown area of Dubai would be our top pick for shorter stays on a reasonable budget who will mostly be out and about exploring and don’t want to spend all their time at the beach.

Panoramic view of the Burj Khalifa

Pros of staying in Downtown – Incredibly central and convenient to main attractions and the city’s best restaurants, top city bars ; easily walkable promenades and Metro connection, all the way through to Dubai International Airport (DXB).

Cons of staying in Downtown – It can seriously dent your budget! Convenience does not come cheap in top tourist areas. You also miss some of the benefits of sunset on the Arabian Gulf coast and the more lively buzz of Dubai Marina & JBR (more below!).

Our top accommodation picks for Downtown Dubai:

  • Budget – Rove Downtown
  • Hostel – Friends House Hostel
  • Mid-range – Renaissance Downtown Hotel
  • Luxury – Palace Downtown
  • Family / Hotel Apartment –   Ramada Downtown Dubai

Places to stay in Dubai – Dubai Marina

A man-made marina area sitting to the west of the city, this is another hub of tourist activity. The incredibly picturesque marina surrounded by high-rise towers is home to several of Dubai’s top dining & nightlife options.

Dubai Marina is the departure point for many cruises as well as the Dubai Water Taxi & Dubai Water Bus which can take you to Downtown.

The Dubai Tram also runs from Dubai Marina to Dubai Media City and on the south side of the Marina, you can connect with the Red Metro.

Night time view of the bars and restaurants around Dubai Marina, Dubai

Pros of staying in Dubai Marina – It really has everything holidaymakers need at hand and great transport connections, close to Dubai Parks & Resorts and Abu Dhabi border, minutes to JBR The Walk & The Beach. Enjoy the beauty of overlooking the marina action and a fabulous nightlife vibe.

The other huge advantage of staying in Dubai Marina is nearly all rooms are hotel apartments meaning you have extra kitchen and washing amenities – great for longer stays. There’s also a good range of alternate AirBnB options in Dubai Marina which we look at here (you won’t believe some of the spectacular high-rise options!)

Cons of staying in Dubai Marina – You are quite far from DXB airport and the attractions of Downtown; Depending on what side of the marina, you may still have some considerable walking to do. Cheaper options than Downtown but still costly for tourists on a tight budget.

Our top accommodation picks for Dubai Marina

  • Budget – Rove Dubai M a rina
  • Hostel – 1 World Backpackers
  • Mid-range – Grosvenor House Hotel & Apartments
  • Luxury – Address Dubai Marina
  • Family / Hotel Apartment – Dubai Marriott Harbour Hotel & Suites

Places to Stay in Dubai – Jumeirah Beach and JBR

It’s important to note these really are two separate things. “Jumeirah” is often loosely used to refer to pretty much any area along the beachfront of Dubai from Bur Dubai to the northeast all the way down to Dubai Marina.

JBR is short for “ Jumeirah Beach Residence ,” which sits wedged between the beachfront (aptly named “The Beach”) and the adjacent promenade area “The Walk” to the north and Dubai Marina to the South.  Here, you will find some of Dubai’s best beachside accommodations and hotel apartments perfect for families. Not all may have their own private beach, but you may get beach club access and, almost certainly, some sea views.

As the name might strongly suggest, this is a great area to stay if you are seeking out some sun, beach, water sports and pool time during your time in Dubai whilst still wanting to be well-connected to the rest of the city. It’s arguably the top spot for tourists as the area is walkable and has so much to offer.

sunset view over the sandy beach of Jumierah Beach

Other areas of Jumeirah Beach to look out for as there are plentiful amenities nearby are the Jumeirah chain hotels attached to Souk Madinat Jumeirah, Jumeirah Beach Hotel (attached to Wild Wadi), the ultra-luxurious Burj Al Arab and up and coming La Mer beachfront area to the north, including Pearl Jumeirah & Nikki Beach .

There’s also Le Meridien Mina Seyahi, One&Only Royal Mirage & Four Seasons to name but a few of the luxurious hotels in Jumeirah with their own private beach frontages to consider along Jumeirah Beach. You may find private villa accommodation on AirBnB in this area too.

NB: There isn’t really “budget” when it comes to staying right on the beach. You can certainly get much cheaper hotels along JBR and immediately inland within Dubai Marina if you are happy to compromise on star-rating and facilities. Along the beach, you can bank on a minimum of $100 USD per night starting price – but there are a few hidden highrise shared dorm hostels to consider.

One & Only Royal Mirage beach front in JBR Dubai

Pros of staying in JBR / Jumeirah Beach – Access to the beach, of course! The unmissable soft white stands and superb sundowner locations all along the coast. JBR has the added

Cons of staying in JBR / Jumeirah Beach – The resorts further along the coast from JBR are not really walkable to anything. Some will offer complimentary shuttle services to attractions such as Mall of the Emirates, but you’re otherwise a little “trapped in”. You’re also some distance from the airport.

Our top accommodation picks for JBR / Jumeirah Beach

  • Budget – Ramada Hotel & Suit e s by Wyndham
  • Hostel – DXB Backpackers
  • Mid-range – Westin Mina Seyahi
  • Luxury – The Ritz-Carlton Dubai
  • Family / Hotel Apartment – Hilton Dubai The Walk

We also recommend you check out our guide to the Best Dubai Beach Resorts With Private Beach which captures many of the Jumeirah Beach properties.

If staying actually on the beach isn’t in your budget, there are plenty of public beaches in Dubai you can day trip to or spoil yourself to a one-off day at a luxury beach club.

Places to Stay in Dubai – The Palm Jumeirah

Now let’s clarify any name confusion again; the Palm Jumeirah very specifically refers to the manmade peninsular that juts into the Persian Gulf from Jumeirah. It is bathed in luxury housing and apartments and a plethora of luxury resorts. You really need to take a helicopter ride or skydive to take in just how vast this offshore development is!

This is your ideal serene resort break where you may not even want to leave your hotel! All the resorts are frankly incredible, world-class quality, it’ll simply come down to your individual budget as it’s nearly all 5-star hotels, though some budget and mid-range options are opening up along Palm West Beach .

As per Jumeirah Beach, you won’t really get “budget” but we’ve picked out the best value luxury choices.

Dubai Palm Jumeirah from above

Pros of staying on Palm Jumeirah – A stunning taste of Dubai luxury, ample outdoor activities and amazing sunsets over the Arabian Gulf to be enjoyed.

Cons of staying on Palm Jumeirah – The price tag will put most average travellers off staying on the Palm. You’re also quite far from the airport – and almost everything else in Dubai! There’s only one road on and off the Palm, so expect lots of taxis/transfers and long commutes if you want to sightsee or get back to DXB Airport.

Best Places to stay on Palm Jumeirah

  • Budget – Andaz by Hyatt Palm Jumeirah
  • Mid-range – Fairmon t the Palm
  • Luxury – They’re all amazing, see them compared here
  • Family / Hotel Apartment – Rixos the Palm Hotel & Suites

Places to stay in Dubai – Bur Dubai

Often referred to as “Old Dubai” or historical Dubai, this is where you will find the city’s oldest buildings, including the Dubai Museum, the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood and the more modern additions of Al Seef and Al Jaddaf, as well as the large parklands that surround Dubai Creek.

While some would argue you get a much more authentic Dubai experience here, others will complain that the hotels are a bit more run down – “old” in Dubai terms can simply mean the hotel has been there since the 1990s!  It is still one of the best areas to stay in Dubai.

View over Old Dubai and Deira, Dubai Creek

There is a real mixed bag of accommodation in Bur Dubai these days as newer developments are bringing new brand-name hotels to the area, but in traditional Arabic styling to blend into the redeveloped areas of the city. You will find bargain basement digs, too, for those on an absolute shoestring budget.

(NB the area we’re describing,”Bur Dubai” means Mainland Dubai – we have encapsulated Al Karama, Oud Metha, Al Seef, Al Jaddaf through to Zabeel and the start of Sheikh Zayed Road highrises)

Pros of staying in Bur Dubai – Undoubtedly, it’s the corner of the city where 5-star luxury comes without the humongous price tag, and you can enjoy some great rooftop views back to Bur Dubai.

It’s an excellent choice for apartment-style accommodation and positioning yourself well; you can be less than 10 minutes to the Metro, which takes you to Downtown Dubai in minutes.  For convenience, you are also only 10 to 15 minutes away from the airport.  There’s a lot to love about “Old Dubai”!

Cons of staying in Bur Dubai – accommodation can be dated, so choose wisely. Newer hotels are great but can push up the cost of those around them, so maybe not always the bargain, are expect.

Best accommodation options in Bur Dubai

  • Budget – Al Khoory Inn Bur Dubai
  • Mid-range – Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel
  • Luxury – Raffles Dubai
  • Boutique – XVA Art Hotel
  • Family / Hotel Apartment – Savoy Suites Hotel Apartment

Places to stay in Dubai – Deira

Just across the creek from Bur Dubai on the eastern bank you will find another of Dubai’s older neighbourhoods and home to the city’s famous gold and spice souks .

Providing good transport links, you are close to Downtown still with the Red Metro connection, really near to the airport – making it a favourite location with long layover passengers for DXB and you are only moments away from neighbouring Emirate Sharjah.

Not everything in Deira is old and cheap – there are many luxury hotels and even a golf course to be found along Dubai Creek with unrivalled views of the city and incredible boardwalk restaurants along the waterfront to enjoy. However, like Bur Dubai, these luxury hotels are often at a fraction of the cost for what you get compared to Downtown.

Deira side of Dubai Creek

Pros of staying in Deira – You are close the city and cheaper than many other locations; Deira is also a favourite area for foodies and cheap eats as well as bargain hunters.

Cons of staying in Deira – Many hotel choices are dated. It can be a noisier area of the city at night with traffic congestion.

Best accommodation options in Deira

  • Budget – Emirates Concorde
  • Hostel – Atmosphere
  • Mid-range – Hilton Dubai Creek
  • Luxury – Park Hyatt Dubai
  • Family / Hotel Apartment – Al Bandar Arjaan by Rotana

Places to Stay in Dubai – Al Quoz & Al Barsha

Set back from the beachfront you will find Al Barsha – best described as the area surrounding the Mall of the Emirates, Al Quoz is one of the city’s up and coming areas best known as the city’s art and cultural district.

In between the often-industrial feel from the outside, there are hidden gems designer cafes and fitness studios mixed in with skate parks. Enjoy the Alserkal Avenue Arts District , Brekkie at Tom & Serg;  It’s definitely an area to keep your eye on for experiencing a newer side of Dubai.

Al Barsha is the area of the city you’ll find the Mall of the Emirates, famed for its indoor ski slope but also home to a huge number of fashion outlets making it a shopper’s paradise. You’ll find some hotels are attached to the Mall whilst others sit a block or so away

Pros of staying in Al Qouz/Al Barsha – Good value for money and good-sized rooms close to transport connections (many next to Mashreq Metro).

Cons of staying in Al Quoz/Al Barsha – It’s a little bit no-man’s land. Most of the budget accommodation is not easy walking distance to Metro or nearby attractions. Some areas are quite new and still lack the character of the older areas of Dubai nearer to the Creek

Best accommodation options in Al Quoz/Al Barsha

  • Budget  – Rose Park Hotel Al Barsha
  • Midrange – Sheraton Mall of the Emirates
  • Luxury – Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates
  • Family / Hotel Apartment – Doubletree by Hilton Hot e l & Residences

Places to Stay in Dubai – the Desert & Beyond

Beyond the city of Dubai, when the skyscrapers end, and the endless housing estates slowly peter out, there’s an awful lot of sand!  There are a few small townships beyond the city and into the mountains (yes, the United Arab Emirates has mountains!), such as Hatta , but no other big towns within the Dubai Emirate.

Remember, there is a whole lot more UAE to explore – don’t limit yourself to just Dubai Emirate.  You can find our complete guide to what can be found beyond in the 7 Emirates of the UAE here.

Al Maha Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve

Exploring the desert is no doubt on your to-do list for Dubai, too, but did you know you can actually stay in the desert overnight?

Two top choices to consider for desert-style luxury:

  • Al Maha in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve
  • Bab al Shams Desert Resort & Spa

You can see our complete guide to Dubai & UAE luxury desert stays here, or for those who prefer to get even closer to nature, a great guide here on where to camp overnight in Dubai.

So now we’ve got you geographically sorted in Dubai, let’s start to look at particular traveller types and which areas and accommodation choices might suit you best.

Best Areas to Stay in Dubai for Business Travellers

If you are here for a conference or going to the World Trade Centre, there are many hotels that line the first section of Sheikh Zayed Road, near the World Trade Centre roundabout (only around 10 – 15 minutes to DXB Airport).

Be mindful that while things may look close on the map, there’s a rather large road to cross if you stay on the northern side, and one-way systems make navigating even this small area of the city in a taxi challenging.

The most convenient options sit on the south side of SZR and have immediate Metro access to Dubai International Airport and the famous landmarks of Downtown.

Within the heart of DIFC – the financial district – you will find plenty of large brand-name hotels and some very modern and breath-taking accommodation choices with spacious rooms. There are also plentiful apartments and Airbnb-style options if you’re staying longer on a business trip.

places to visit in dubai hotel

Some of the best hotels for business travellers to Dubai include :

  • Budget – Ibis One Central – 2-star business accommodation done right. Honestly, if you just need a place for your head and the convenience of WTC and into the city by Metro, this is a superb value option in the centre of the action, clean, easy, and convenient.
  • Mid-range – Gevora Hotel – nothing quite like bragging rights you stayed in the world’s tallest hotel, overlooking the world’s tallest building, right? A great value 4-star option in between WTC and Downtown.
  • Luxury – The Ritz-Carlton DIFC in the heart of the financial district, just one stop from the Dubai Mall and plentiful dining and relaxation amenities on site.

Best Areas to Stay in Dubai for Short Stopovers

Just because you are only on a short stopover (we are talking less than 48 hours), don’t feel you need to be restricted just to the areas closest to the airport.

On all but the worst traffic days (i.e. public holidays when everyone is trying to get to the airport – you can see when they fall here ), you should be fine to base yourself anywhere in the city and rely on the Metro or taxies to get around.

We would lean towards staying in Bur Dubai/Downtown area for a short stopover rather than the beach – simply for the convenience of fitting in more sightseeing and getting a good mix of old and new Dubai; save Dubai Marina/JBR area for a longer vacation.

Some options we recommend you try to mix a little relaxation and leg stretching between flights:

  • Budget – Premier Inn Dubai Al Jaddaf – convenience in an up-and-coming modern area of the city at a great price per night, close to Al Jadaf Metro
  • Hostel –
  • Mid-range – Grand Hyatt – a surprisingly affordable luxury resort option next to Dubai Creek Park
  • Luxury – Jumeirah Creekside – totally spoil yourself and unwind between flights
  • Family / Hotel Apartment – Burjuman Arjaan by Rotana – best of old and new Dubai, walk to Al Seef Waterfront and Burjuman Mall, or easy Metro ride to Downtown, 10 minutes to DXB with apartment conveniences.

If you do want ultra-close to the airport through you can’t sniff at Le Meridien – far more than just a conference centre hotel they have a great range of dining choices and recreation facilities, making it a perfect place to stretch out and relax between long flights or base yourself before an early start, you are only 3 minutes drive back to terminal 3.

Best Areas to Stay in Dubai for Family Vacations

If you are here for a longer stay vacation with a family or larger group, we recommend Dubai Marian or JBR as your top pick – or Palm Jumeirah if the budget will permit for a resort holiday:

Some top choice Dubai hotel apartments through to family resorts to consider :

  • Doubletree by Hilton Jumeirah Beach – Good-sized and reasonably priced luxury hotel apartments on the beachfront, halfway between Bluewaters Island & The Walk JBR
  • The Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina – fabulous access to a range of restaurants outdoor pools and recreation facilities on Jumeirah beach – same facilities as Le Meridien at a lower price point for families
  • Jumeirah al Naseem Madinat Jumeirah – a beautiful luxury stay attached to the modern Souk Madinat Jumeirah & with complimentary access to Wild Wadi
  • The Ritz-Carlton Dubai – unsurpassable beachfront family luxury with easy access by foot to the conveniences of JBR & The Walk

Westin Mina Seyahi Family Hotel in Dubai

Want to be closer to the sightseeing of Downtown and don’t care too much for the beach?  Some other Dubai Downtown and city-side options for families to consider include:

  • Roda Al Murooj Residence – resort-style accommodation immediately adjacent to Dubai Mall but with a family-sized apartment
  • Rove Downtown -akin to a very fun and funky upscale backpackers style accommodation adjacent to Dubai Mall
  • Grand Hyatt Dubai – another resort-style option with slides, close to the airport at a considerably cheaper price than beachfront resorts

Best Areas to Stay in Dubai for Theme Park Vacations

There are several choices when it comes to theme parks, with the advantage being if you stay at an onsite hotel, your hotel price can be packaged with attraction tickets.  Our “top 3”in this category are:

  • Atlantis The Palm   – combine with Aquaventure, the Lost Chambers and Dolphinarium
  • Jumeirah Beach Hotel – combine with Wild Wadi (any of the Jumeirah chain hotels will afford you the same benefit, JBH is the closest)
  • Lapita Dubai Parks & Resorts – luxury Polynesian resort for inclusive tickets to Legoland Dubai, Legoland Water Park, Motiongate or Bollywood.

Where to Stay in Dubai on a Budget

Budget and Dubai don’t often sit comfortably hand in hand – and many travellers have different interpretations of what budget means! We’ll put it this way – Dubai, on the whole, is not a great value budget backpacker city.

Yes, you can find much cheaper options, and even hostels, which may come as a surprise to many, albeit this is still a developing area of the tourism market and quality is hugely variable.

The key, as most budget travellers know, is to seek out what’s important to you and do your research thoroughly.  Will you take the convenience of location over the size of your room and facilities? Or would you rather have a little extra personal space and stay further out of town, saving your budget for meals and attractions?

Just be careful in Dubai you don’t stay too far out and all your budget then goes on transport. A slightly more expensive but central choice may be your answer.

Where to seek our good value accommodation in Dubai

A surprisingly good value chain to keep your eye out for is Rove Hotels in some great locations including near the airport, Downtown – minutes from the Dubai mall, Dubai Marina, and newly opened Dubai Parks & Resorts.

Also, look into some of the newer areas, Al Jaddaf is part of Bur Dubai and up-and-coming area where you will find brand new hotels at very reasonable prices near the Green Metro.

On the opposite side of the city as you drive towards Abu Dhabi and after the Dubai Marina area is Ibn Battuta . You can find some better value properties here than in Dubai Marina – albeit the atmosphere is not the same but a short Metro ride home after a night out. This part of town would also be a good budget choice during Expo 2020 .

When it comes to what you actually get in Dubai for “Budget” you may be really pleasantly surprised to find most will include breakfast, Wi-Fi and even access to pools and fitness centres in their price.  It depends on how many you want to share your room with!

Hostels in Dubai

Some hostel options we recommend you try (via HostelWorld) :

  • Bombay Backpackers DXB – enjoy the spectacular highlights of staying in JBR & The Walk in a wonderful central location offering great amenities. Superior & Deluxe dorms sleep between 6 to 12 in Male, female and mixed guests from 60 AED per night. Linen included, and access to an outdoor pool, laundry, shared common room with games and cooking facilities.
  • DXB Backpackers – High-rise hostel accommodation close to the beach in JBR, offering private doubles and mixed dorm rooms. Your linen is included, as well as pool & fitness centre access, Dorms from 70 AED, and Privates from 120 AED.
  • Torch 77 – in the acclaimed Torch Tower. This is one of the highest hostels you’ll find in the world! Other than the incredible views, the hostel is clean and offers male, female and mixed dorms for an average nightly rate of AED 197
  • BackPacker Dubai – In the Barsha Heights area of Dubai, you are close to Dubai Internet City. There are male/female/mixed dorms from 70 AED per night.
  • Friends House Hostel – it’s all location location if you want to be close to the Downtown action you are just a bridge walk over to Dubai Mall Metro. There are male/female and mixed dorms starting from 36 AED per night

Most hostels in Dubai operate with single-sex rooms, making them a less attractive choice for those of you travelling as a couple or family.  You may well find a cheaper hotel room in Bur Dubai or Deira at the equivalent price or not much more than a private room for two people in a hostel.

Getting Around in Dubai – Why it’s So Important For Where to Stay in Dubai

So we mentioned at the outset not many areas of the city are easily walkable. It’s simply not the way the city grew from the Creekside and west.  With vast swathes of land, development has occurred across the city in large and distinct blocks with huge areas in between.

Newer developments in the last couple of decades see a much better set up with tourists and pedestrian access front of mind – primarily we’re talking about Downtown Dubai and Dubai Marina/JBR – hence why these are popular areas to stay.

Dubai Marina at dusk

Anywhere else in the city, due largely to the heat – not to mention the lack of footpaths or a foreseeable way to cross huge 8-lane roads – you are best catching a public taxi or Uber to get around, even for short hops. This can add time and money to your trip to Dubai.

Staying anywhere with a Metro station in walking distance most definitely helps, but even a Metro crossing point over the highway can take several minutes to navigate!   The city really is big, which is why we can’t emphasise enough choosing a location for its convenience above all else. The rest of your itinerary will fall into place around this.

As well as the Metro, there is a comprehensive bus network that covers the city and a growing network of water buses.

You can find our complete guide how to get around Dubai here.

Other Factors to Be Aware of When Booking Dubai Accommodation

  • Beware of extra charges and taxes. Whilst VAT of 5% is supposed to be inclusive, many will quote it separately, as well as municipality tax, tourism fee and service charges.  You can see our complete guide to Dubai Tourism Taxes here .
  • Some hotels in Dubai are dry – i.e. there’s no mini bar or onsite alcohol service in the bars/restaurants. If this is important to you, please check this before booking.
  • Prices can vary hugely by season and events. Don’t forget to check out our best time to visit Dubai guide to see what might be happening during your visit and why prices might be fluctuating. Generally speaking, prices dip over the hottest summer months when hotels are trying to increase occupancy and are very expensive in December over Christmas to New Year particularly.
  • Use multiple booking search tools to nab your best price.  We do love the convenience of Booking.com – especially their flexible cancellation policy – so we have largely linked to their site here as a starting point for your search. We also recommend you use package holiday tools such as Expedia , which may have a slightly different inventory.

Best for families - jebel ali and the palm jumeirah.

Don’t let the fun stop at the end of the day – stay in a hotel that the kids will love to return to with one of these recommendations. They’re sure to make the children’s eyes widen in wonder. Only problem? They won’t want to go to bed!

Legoland Hotel

Anything with the word Lego attached to it will be a winner with the kids, and given the Legoland Hotel sits smack in the middle of the city’s entertainment and theme park precinct just adds to the excitement. Just as you would expect, there are awesome rooms and suites all with a Lego feel, themed dining and awesome activities for the whole family to enjoy as they stay and play. Knowing just how ‘brick-mad’ so many youngsters are, you’ll need to be prepared for an excitement overload, but trust me it’s worth it.

Atlantis, The Palm

Any hotel or resort with its own waterpark is a winner with holidaying families, and this entertainment wonderland doesn’t disappoint. Not only can Atlantis, The Palm lay claim to more than 100 water slides, it’s also home to one of the largest aquariums on the planet, offers its guests and off-site tourists sea lion and dolphin encounters, and as if that’s not enough, it also boasts a bowling alley and games arcade. Sounds like a dream, right? Well, at least you know the kids won’t be whining that they’re bored – if anything they won’t want to leave.

Lapita, Dubai Parks and Resorts

The only resort within Dubai’s popular parks and resorts precinct, Lapita exudes Polynesian vibes and is surrounded by Jebel Ali’s most popular attractions – Legoland, Motiongate and Bollywood Parks. Guests are afforded a free pass to the parks, which means flash mobs, roller coaster rides, water slide fun and entertaining stunt shows.

Best for the Budget Conscious: Deira / Al Barsha / Downtown

If you’re going to be out sightseeing all day long anyway, why pay more for a room you’ll only use at night? These stays offer a comfortable bed as well as a few other amenities, but still leave you with money to spend other places too.

Rove Downtown

Quirky and comfortable yet affordable, Rove Downtown is ideally situated within walking distance of Dubai Mall, the Burj Khalifa, and the Dancing Fountain. Rooms are on the small side and breakfast is more of an on-the-go experience than a sit-down affair, but the location is fabulous, the views good, and the team offers a round-trip airport shuttle. Design-wise it’s very cool, and it’s got a younger vibe. Basically if you’re going to be out all day sightseeing and just want a place to lay your head and a coffee in the morning before doing it all again, Rove is for you.

Hilton Garden Inn Al Muraqabat

A seven-minute drive from the city’s international airport, Hilton Garden Inn Al Muraqabat is situated in the thick of Old Dubai and just a few steps away from the Al Rigga Metro Station, which provides you access to the rest of the city. Connecting rooms are available as required, and the hotel has an all-day dining restaurant and a rooftop pool. Children under the age of 18 stay free if sharing a room with a paying adult, and Wi-Fi is free.

Ibis Dubai Al Barsha

Cozy, comfortable and modern, although a wee bit on the small side, Ibis Dubai Al Barsha is great value for the price tag. Although a fraction of the cost of other more luxurious accommodation in Dubai, the Ibis in Al Barsha has an all-day eatery, a cafe/bar, fitness center and offers parking. The nearest metro station is a five-minute walk away, so public transport options are good too.

Best Luxury Lodgings

Few places offer as many luxury accommodations as Dubai, so expect these recommendations to take luxury to a whole other level. We’re talking sensual spas, epic views, breathtaking interiors and more.

Burj Al Arab Jumeirah

This iconic five-star property is dripping with luxe appeal – you can even watch the fish swim around from your bed! This so-called ‘Jewel of Jumeirah’ stands 321m tall and boasts 202 suites along with nine signature restaurants, and aquariums where you would usually find walls and windows. Everything about this landmark sail-shaped hotel screams extravagance. From the gold-leaf laden throughout to the glamorous decor, and its indulgent spa, the Burj Al Arab is the epitome of Arabian luxury. Be prepared to pay through the roof though – a night at this diva of Dubai is on the high side, but it’s a bucket-lister for sure and so worth it for a special occasion.

Bulgari Resort Dubai

Standing proud in Jumeira Bay and just a hop, skip and a jump from Dubai’s ‘Golden Mile,’ this five-star resort serves up a Mediterranean village vibe. A unique development for the global brand, the property truly is an indulgent paradise. Not only are there 101 rooms and 20 pool villas to choose from, there is also a Yacht Club and Marina, a signature scent infused throughout the resort, and you can expect to enjoy some of the most comfortable furnishings, made in Italy, of course.

With sweeping views of the Gulf and some of the best city skyline vistas directly in front of you, this is the spot for some R&R, delectable food, and A-grade pampering.

Raffles The Palm

If you’re familiar with the Raffles brand, you’ll know that it’s all about next-level luxury. The Dubai iteration, Raffles The Palm , is all that and a lot more. Grandiose and lavish to a fault, this swanky seaside establishment that is set on 25 acres will please anyone with a penchant for the personalized service Raffles is renowned for.

You’ll no doubt lap up the 1,500-foot private beach and admire the opulent furnishings – we’re talking chandeliers, beautiful staircases, and quality furnishing – not to mention the five-star food and beverage offerings. From its position on the Western Crescent of The Palm, you would be forgiven for feeling like you’re a royal and this is your private palace.

It’s an exquisite place to celebrate a special occasion or simply spoil yourself.

Best for Cultural Immersion: Al Seef / Al Fahidi Cultural District / Madinat Jumeirah

When you want to feel like a local, or even a local living a hundred years ago, these recommendations are excellent places to stay. Often nestled in historic neighbourhoods, they appeal with traditional architecture and a vibrant atmosphere.

Al Seef Heritage Hotel

This hotel has a real sense of place about it, which is welcomed if you like to really feel like you’re in a completely different place when you travel. Everything about this heritage property is Arabesque in its appeal and it doesn’t hurt that it’s located in the bustling district of Al Seef, on the banks of the Dubai Creek.

This neighborhood is packed with winding alleyways, souk market stalls, and Emirati restaurants and cafes; in the evening it comes alive with dancing, singing, and contagious magical ‘Old Dubai’ feels. The 190-room Al Seef Heritage Hotel is within walking distance (temperature-allowing) of some of the old city attractions.

Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf

Known as the summer houses of Jumeirah, this Arabian-inspired resort is nestled within the popular Madinat Jumeirah complex. Considered one of the most intimate, exclusive offerings in the emirate, this 283-room property reflects the Arabian summer house of days gone by. Traditional features include wind towers, known locally as barjeels; majlis, or group sitting areas; and majestic courtyards.

Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf is just three minutes from the popular Jumeirah Beach and can be reached on foot or via an Abra, the traditional wooden boat.

XVA Art Hotel

XVA Art ‘s position within the Al Fahidi Historical District, the oldest neighborhood in Dubai, speaks volumes. With its roots dating back more than 100 years, in a country that is just 50 years old, it’s the Persian architectural heritage and design focus that set this property apart from any other in this historic part of the city. The fact that it was once occupied by one of the UAE’s most prominent families adds to the appeal.

Best for Desert Vibes

Striving for Laurence of Arabia vibes? Then a stay in the desert is the only way to do it. Enjoy sunsets over rolling dunes, camel rides and unforgettable star-gazing opportunities.

Bab Al Shams

Camelback rides, falconry displays and photo opportunities – not to mention desert sunsets and even a mini-golf course – Bab Al Shams is all about cultural immersion. Whether traveling as a family or after a more intimate experience, this purpose-built heritage-focussed resort is a nomadic reminder of days passed. Embrace the shifting sands and enjoy some time outside of the city limits, acknowledging how far this relatively young nation has come.

Al Maha Luxury Collection Dubai

Set within the expansive Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, Al Maha is a desert haven that is surrounded by rolling dunes and frequented by four-legged locals, like camels, oryx and gazelles. A 45-minute journey from Dubai, you can choose to simply kick back and relax, or make the most of every moment in this unique landscape and join a horse-riding tour, camel trek, dune walk or a drink among the sand dunes.

Best for Pool Vibes: Downtown

When your idea of a holiday is hanging by the pool, you simply must choose one of these accommodations. These pools offer epic views over the city, infinity edges, sun loungers and more. You’ll never want to leave.

Address Sky Views

A relatively new addition to the Dubai hotel scene, this property ’s breathtaking infinity pool really does take the cake for the best in the emirate. Guests can lay out or dip in and enjoy some of the best vistas of the city’s incredible skyline. Located on the SkyDeck, there are private cabanas, a pool bar and sun loungers, and it’s open to hotel guests from 9am to 7pm daily. This is one Instagram shot you can’t miss – believe me, you’ll generate some serious FOMO.

St Regis Hotel - The Palm

Positioned within The Palm Tower, St Regis Dubai occupies the same building as Aura SkyPool – the world’s highest 360-degree infinity pool. It’s suspended 200m in the air on the 52nd story of the skyscraper that is connected to Nakheel Mall. Taking up residence on the first 18 floors of The Palm Tower, St Regis boasts 264 rooms and 26 suites, but it really is the spectacular pool and views that make it a winner with hotel guests and external tourists.

Unique stay: Queen Elizabeth 2

This much-loved Cunard cruise liner can lay claim to being the only floating hotel in the emirate. Docked permanently at Port Rashid, this standout offering provides guests not only with a choice of 447 rooms and suites, but also a selection of international food and beverage offerings, a gym, indoor pool, and a licensed theater. Just a couple of minutes from the beach, Downtown Dubai and the nearest metro station, this landmark accommodation option is as unique as they come.

Dubai Travel Guide

It’s hard to believe when confronting the sheer scale of Dubai, but most of the city was built in just the last 50 years. It makes the world’s biggest shopping mall, tallest skyscraper, and a host of ultra-luxurious hotels all the more bewildering. Still, amid all the glamor and superlatives, there are vestiges of a pre-skyscraper Dubai, in its winding souks and the vast empty desert that surrounds the city. Here’s how to navigate both sides of this always-growing metropolis.

Booking.com is part of Booking Holdings Inc., the world leader in online travel and related services.

Verified reviews from real guests.

We have more than 70 million property reviews, and they're all from real, verified guests .

How does it work?

It starts with a booking.

The only way to leave a review is to first make a booking. That's how we know our reviews come from real guests who have stayed at the property.

Followed by a trip

When guests stay at the property they check out how quiet the room is, how friendly the staff are and more.

And finally, a review

After their trip, guests tell us about their stay. We check for naughty words and verify the authenticity of all guest reviews before adding them to our site.

If you booked through us and want to leave a review, please sign in first.

Dubai Hotels Information

Modestly cooler temperatures make winter the most pleasant time of year for a visit, despite the threat of rain. But you won’t be the only traveler in town—this is Dubai’s busiest season.

Dubai’s coolest season is a great time to hit up the city’s large network of public beaches, like ever-popular Jumeirah Beach.

Rainy weather isn’t a damper in Dubai, as so many of the city’s major attractions are indoors. When raindrops fall, take shelter in Ski Dubai the Dubai Mall, or try indoor skydiving at iFly Dubai.

Dubai’s shopping is hall-of-fame level, and the month-long Dubai Shopping Festival means bargains galore throughout January.

Drier weather and relatively mild temperatures makes early spring one of Dubai’s best seasons. Crowds surge during March’s spring-break holidays, but timing your visit in April means fewer crowds and tolerable temperatures.

Spring’s clear skies make it a prime time for taking in the outstanding views atop Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

Explore the city’s historic neighborhoods like Deira and Bur Dubai on foot. Reasonable temperatures make strolling the souks and long afternoons at cafes more comfortable.

May is Ramadan, when Muslims fast from morning until night. Visitors aren’t expected to keep the same restrictions, but you should expect a more reserved atmosphere across the city and many restaurants will not cover their windows so passersby won’t witness daytime meals.

A Dubai summertime could make even heat lovers think twice. Scorching temperatures drive the entire city indoors from May through September, though that’s not necessarily a bad thing in a city of megamalls.

Summer is a great time of year to pamper yourself at one of the city’s luxury resorts, with rates running at a seasonal low. Book spa appointments, seek out a private cabana near the pool, or just bask in the views from your sky-high, air-conditioned suite.

Score reservations at the city’s most-lauded restaurants, which are normally booked out well in advance. Check out Zuma, Pierchic, Marina Social, Il Borro Tuscan Bistro, and CLAP.

Looking to chill? Hit up Ski Dubai and pretend the desert isn’t at Dubai's doorstep.

The later fall months swing back to more tolerable temperatures, making outdoor exploration feasible. Big events are on the agenda as the city gears up for the winter holiday season.

While temperatures are still blazing at the beginning of fall, you’ll be able to nab more wallet-friendly rates at some of Dubai’s most famous resorts like the Atlantis and Burj al Arab.

Racing enthusiasts know that Dubai is a bucket-list destination in motorsports, and F1 arrives in town in early December. Events range from qualifiers to the Dubai Grand Prix.

Rugby fans, get ready to chant and cheer at Dubai’s annual Rugby Sevens international tournament toward the end of fall.

The waterpark boasts some of the most thrilling waterslides in the world, including the Leap of Faith, a near-vertical drop down through a clear tube surrounded by sharks and rays. Or try the less shark-filled – but even scarier – Poseidon’s Revenge, tricked out with trapdoors, twists and turns. With a zipline, the region's first cliff jumping experience, more shark-inclusive adventures and a tidal wave river among many of its attractions, one session at Aquaventure Waterpark will almost certainly not be enough.

Price: Free for hotel guests. From AED240 per person for non-guests. Timings: 9:45am-6:30pm daily.

  • Atlantis, The Palm, Crescent Road, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai

If you’re not in the mood to shop, head to AWAKEN Wellness for a pampering session. /GatherContent/article/n/new-spot-at-palm-jumeirah/media/new-hotspots-on-the-palm-white-beach-atlantis

What is a visit to a world-famous beach resort without some time on the sand? While Atlantis' Aquaventure has its own beach, for a more exclusive experience, make your way to the Royal Beach’s calmer sands. Or for an upbeat vibe, head to WHITE Beach  and soak up the sun to the sound of relaxed beats, with refreshments on hand if desired. Stick around to enjoy a beverage as the sun sets over the horizon. Then it’s time to freshen up because an unforgettable deep dive awaits...

Price: WHITE Beach access from AED200 per person. Timings: 10am-8pm daily (restaurant 12pm-5pm daily).

  • White Beach, Atlantis The Palm

7pm: Aquatrek diving by night

one-day-at-atlantis-aquatrek-diving-by-night

You’ve seen them during yoga, and now it’s time to get up close and personal with the marine life of The Lost Chambers Aquarium by taking a dusk dive into their world. The unique Aquatrek system means you don’t need any previous diving experience, and the Aquatrek helmet offers much better visibility than a standard diving mask. Dusk is the time when many sea creatures become more active and, lit only by the last of the sun and your handheld torches, the experience is phenomenal.

Price: From AED610 per person. Timings: Dives operate from 10am-9pm.

9pm till late: Dinner and drinks

one-day-at-atlantis-dinner-at-nobu

After your underwater adventure, it’s time for dinner at Nobu, one of Atlantis’ award-winning eateries. Bringing the creations of chef Nobu Matsuhisa to Dubai, the restaurant presents his signature blend of Japanese and Peruvian cuisines in a stylish setting. Sample the best sushi in the city, wagyu beef or Nobu’s acclaimed black cod miso – and then sit back and relax at the Kanpai lounge. If the night is still young, make your way over to Wavehouse , where the good times can keep going. A mighty blend of food and entertainment, this industrial destination stays lively into the early hours.

Nobu timings: Dinner 6pm-1am Sunday to Thursday, 6pm-2am Friday and Saturday. Wavehouse timings: 12pm-1am daily.

Stay Reel: Blue skies ahead

Emerge from winter’s cold wrath and embrace some much-needed sunshine by planning a warm-weather vacation inspired by these one-of-a-kind getaways..

By Alison Cavatore | March 28, 2024

Ready to bid adieu to the winter blues and soak up some sunshine? Us, too! As the days get longer, it's the perfect time to start planning a trip that involves spending some of those extra daylight hours lounging on the beach or experiencing an outdoor adventure you’ve had on your bucket list for years. Whether you crave an urban retreat or a tropical escape, choosing a destination that will spark joy in you is key to a successful stay. So, let the sunshine in and get ready for your next warm-weather getaway.

Lounging in Los Angeles

Planning a warm-weather getaway can be thrilling — anticipating downtime in the sun, exploring new cities, trying local cuisine — but it can all add up quickly. From airfare to dining out and local transportation to unexpected fees, sticking to a budget can be tricky, no matter what that budget is. Just ask popular on-screen host Speedy Morman, who posted on TikTok about exorbitantly high fees that stacked up while booking a homestay in sunny Los Angeles. Hilton’s social media team jumped into the conversation and arranged a sticker-shock-free elevated stay for Morman at The Beverly Hilton , a perfect spot for rooftop lounging to make the most of California’s exquisite weather — not to mention easy access to all the best attractions in town. Grateful that he didn’t have to cancel his trip, Morman shared his gratitude to Hilton on his YouTube channel . Now that’s what we call walking on sunshine!

Mexico’s calling

With clear blue skies, warm sunshine and plenty of ways to truly escape, a vacation in Tulum is the ideal warm-weather getaway. Stunning beaches are the norm here, and when you stay at Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya , the ocean breeze and soft sands are only steps away from the comfort of your room . Prefer lounging by the pool? You’re in the right place ... the hotel features five sparkling pools with poolside cabanas for the ultimate relaxing vibes. Take advantage of your unique location and immerse yourself in local cuisine by heading to Autor for an authentic taste of traditional Mexican flavors like talla-style shrimp and mole rosa. With comfortable weather year-round, Tulum is also the perfect warm-weather destination for trying out fun activities like kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkeling, or exploring cultural highlights like Mayan ruins, lush jungles, cenotes and caves. What's not to love about a stunning and sunny sanctuary that will leave a lasting impression for years to come?

Group getaway

Sometimes you just need to get away ... together. Make your next sunny vacay one that you and your friends can all reminisce about for years to come. From Dubai and Tulum to Madrid and Montego Bay, there’s an ideal warm-weather destination just waiting for you and your besties to explore. A group getaway is a great way to reconnect while also providing everyone with the opportunity for individual rest and relaxation . For group bonding, enjoy daytime adventures like a desert safari in Dubai or day trip to the Green Grotto Caves in Jamaica and then get some alone time by relaxing at the spa or taking a poolside siesta. Regroup at the end of the day to savor local flavors before retreating to the privacy of your own room. Our top tip for a successful group getaway? Book Confirmed Connecting Rooms by Hilton so you can stay together while still giving everyone their personal space. Win, win!
