Best Meta Quest 2 cases in 2024 — tested and rated

These are the Meta Quest 2 cases you want to protect your headset

Best Meta Quest 2 cases:

The best Meta Quest 2 cases are a great Quest 2 accessory to upgrade your VR headset. Sure, the Quest 2 has been overtaken as best VR headset by the Meta Quest 3 (with Apple Vision Pro in a close second). But it's still an excellent option for getting into VR, and some of these cases do fit the Quest 3 (make sure you check).

Some cases focus on protection and security, while others are created to fit as many accessories as possible. Others are made to be comfortable when bringing your Quest 2 on the go. All of the below cases great cases, but they excel for different reasons.

Lucky for you, we’ve tested a wide range of Meta Quest 2 cases to help you choose the right one. We checked everything from how secure the Quest 2 is while you move the case around to how easy it is to open and close the case. We also confirmed the durability of each design by getting them drenched in the shower to see how they would hold up to rain.

So no matter which case you choose, you can trust it's a good one. Read on for the best Meta Quest 2 cases we've ever tested.

1. Yinke Hard Case

Our expert review:

Specifications

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

The Yinke Hard Case is the best Meta Quest 2 case we tested, offering quality construction and good features for a reasonable price. Available in black and gray, it features a circular-oblong design. This was one of the most compact cases we saw, measuring just 10.8 x 8.9 x 6.1 inches, but it still comes with a lens protection pad, two velcro cable ties and a mesh bag for accessories. Plus, it can carry the Elite Strap with or without the Battery. There’s no shoulder strap on this case though, so you need to carry it using the single handle. The Meta Quest controls are held in place using elastic straps, while the main headset is secured via velcro elastic straps.

When we tested this model, we found it very easy to open and close using the surrounding zip, and fairly straightforward to fit the Meta Quest and controls in place as well. However, we did find that the Elite Strap with Battery could only just fit in there, with the battery pressed right up against the zip. The regular Elite Strap would likely fit better. It’s also worth flagging that the controls are tightly fitted together as well, but this does make the most use of the space. In terms of security, the headset shifted slightly with vigorous movement, but the controls were held in place.

The inside feels soft and the shell is pretty thick and durable. The handle also has a cushioned rubber grip for ease of carrying, and we like that there’s a good range of accessories with it too. It was one of the best when it came to waterproof testing — with only a tiny amount seeping in on one side after being drenched. When you add all this to its lightweight and compact design, as well as the reasonable price, the Yinke Hard Case is our top pick.

2. Procase Hard Travel Case

The Procase Hard Travel Case is the best Meta Quest 2 case if you’re looking for a premium design and a shoulder strap. It comes with a long, rectangular build and is available in gray and black. The interior features a velvet soft lining with indentations for the Meta Quest, controllers and accessories. On the other side, there are two zipped pockets you can use for storing cables. In terms of accessories, you get a mesh bag as well as two velcro cable ties and an adjustable shoulder strap. This case also features a single cushioned handle on one end as well as two zips on the outside for better accessibility. The controls are held in place by two elastic straps, which are secured by velcro.

We immediately loved the feel of the inside of this case. The lining of the other cases felt fairly rough with a scratchy finish, whereas this truly feels soft, and you can hear the difference when you fit your Meta Quest 2. It’s pretty quiet as you slot the headset and controls into the indentations, and on top of feeling nice, the soft finish helps protect the device if it moves around. Because of the indentations, our Quest remained pretty secure, and the elastic strap kept the controllers in place.

The Procase Hard Travel Case is easy to access because of the two zips, and the fact that each zip has a looped handle makes it all the easier. We also like that you have the option to use the shoulder strap if you choose. This is ideal considering the size is a little larger than most and at 1.7 pounds, it’s not the lightest design. Having said that, it still feels like it has a strong and sturdy build and it managed to remain mostly dry inside after our waterproof testing. It’s not the cheapest design, but you get what you pay for.

3. Meta Quest 2 Carrying Case

The Meta Quest 2 Carrying Case is the obvious choice for many Quest fans — and there are reasons behind its popularity. At first glance, it has a very smart and sleek design, with a gray felt finish and a capsule-like shape. The single zip also appears hidden under the lid, which gives the top a suspended appearance. There’s a single, soft loop handle on the outside and compartments within for the headset, controllers and cables. This case can fit the Elite Strap with Battery as well for added versatility. However, no accessories are included, which is a bit of a letdown.

Upon first opening the Meta Quest 2 Carrying Case, we felt like the interior looked less premium than the outside. It’s not particularly soft, with the same material used to line it as the outside, although we did like the flexible rubber walls to separate the compartments. Fitting the headset was simple, even when using the Elite Strap with Battery; however it wasn’t obvious how the controls should sit and there are no straps to hold things in place. This means if the case goes through some turbulence, you can hear things rattling around a bit in there. The overall comfort of carrying the case could be improved as well — while the handle looks attractive, its loop style isn’t as comfortable to carry for long periods as a standard handle.

However, this case is still compact, lightweight and looks great. It was easily the most attractive of all the cases we tested, and the fact that it can successfully fit the Elite Strap with Battery is a bonus. The design is durable, with a hard shell and no obvious corners which will help with impact. It’s pretty waterproof too, with only a little seeping in where the zip finishes in our tests. The Meta Quest 2 Carrying Case might not be the best case for travel, but it’s certainly a contender for its looks and for those that own an Elite Strap.

4. Linkstyle Hard Travel Case

Upon first looking at the Linkstyle Hard Travel Case, you might see something familiar. It looks pretty identical to our winner, the Yinke Hard Case. However, the Linkestyle model we tested is actually a bit smaller and won’t fit the Elite Strap. Although it should be noted that a model from Linkstyle is available with a larger build much like Yinke’s.

This more compact design is as small as they come, measuring just 10 x 10 x 5 inches. It’s available in gray and black and comes with an internal layout much the same as the Yinke Hard Case. There's a velcro elasticated strap to hold the headset in place as well as two elastic straps for the controllers on the other side. Accessories include a mesh bag and two velcro cable ties. The single handle is cushioned for comfort as well.

When put to the test, the results for the Linkstyle Hard Travel Case were much the same as the Yinke Hard Case, which isn’t surprising. But there were a few key areas of difference. First, while the Linkestyle case is a little more compact for storage, this does make it tricky to fit any accessories in there using the mesh bag. We could also tell that the shell wasn’t as strong when compared directly to Yinke’s — the front surface in particular flexes with ease. We were also surprised to see this model struggled more in our waterproof tests. Water seeped in quite badly around the sides when drenched.

Otherwise, the Linkstyle Hard Travel Case delivered in most respects and can easily fit the Meta Quest 2. The device shifted in place a little in terms of security, much like the Yinke. But the overall quality is decent for the reasonable price tag — the interior feels soft and it definitely makes the most use of the space. If a compact design means more than anything, then this is the best Meta Quest 2 case for you.

5. Hijiao Hard Travel Case

The Hijiao Hard Travel Case has a similar design to our runner-up, the Procase Hard Travel Case, in terms of shape and internal layout. Although it is a little more compact in size, measuring 16.8 x 13.4 x 4.5 inches. There is a selection of colors to choose from, including black, blue, gray, purple and red with various patterns.

The Hijiao Hard Travel Case features an indented structure inside to fit the Meta Quest 2, controllers and accessories, and there are two zipped pockets on the other side for spare cables. It comes with a nice assortment of accessories as well, including a lens protection pad, one velcro cable tie and an adjustable shoulder strap you can fit on the outside.

This model is about $15 cheaper than the Procase Hard Travel Case, but you do notice subtle differences in the quality as a result. First, the interior is not soft or sturdy — it feels pretty flimsy and like you could bend it out of place easily. Having said that, the layout still serves its purpose; you can fit the headset in with ease. Plus, this case comes with a buckle on the internal strap to hold the controllers in place, which is a nice upgrade on the velcro we’ve seen in other models. While the headset shifts slightly back and forth, the contents feel otherwise secure in motion.

On the outside of the Hijiao Hard Travel Case, the main zip feels particularly thick and sturdy. While this makes the design look and feel strong, it does have a tendency to catch when you’re trying to open or close the case. It can also rub against the knuckles when you carry the case via the main handle, which is cushioned using a faux-leather material.

Unfortunately, the shell of this case feels a bit flimsy on the front, and it’s not the most waterproof either with water seeping into the inner fabric via the zip lining after being soaked. But, considering the cheap price, you still get a lot of premium features, including inner pockets, a shoulder strap, a lens protection pad and fitted compartments inside. Plus, no others come in such a selection of colors. That’s why the Hijiao Hard Travel Case makes our list as one of the best Meta Quest 2 cases.

6. Sarlar Fashion Travel Protective Case

The Sarlar Fashion Travel Protective Case is one of the best Meta Quest 2 cases because of the sheer amount of accessories it brings to the table. In addition to the anticipated lens protection pad, shoulder strap and velcro cable tie, you also get some colorful controller grips and a complete VR stand, so you can leave your Meta Quest 2 on display should you choose.

The quality of the case itself left us impressed, too. The interior features a velvet-soft indented lining to fit the console and accessories, similar to the Procase Hard Travel Case. And on the other side, there’s a single large zipped pocket which has a nice mesh finish compared to the cheaper materials we’ve seen. The outside has more of a typical satchel appearance, but the front has raised indentations to give it some character.

We were impressed by the overall layout of the Sarlar case. Everything on the inside shouted premium, from the soft lining to the mesh pocket, to the buckled elastic strap. The headset and controls fit into place nicely, with or without the Elite Strap attachment, and the buckled strap adds to the security. You can admittedly feel the console shifting slightly in turbulence, but the soft lining really helps to ease this. It’s also a nice touch that the main zip looks to seal shut as you close it. However, it should be noted that this feature does mean the zip takes a bit of force to open and close. The adjustable shoulder strap feels thick and sturdy and the main handle is cushioned with a rubber grip. It’s a medium size at 13 x 9.1 x 5.1 inches but is a little heavy considering this is almost 2 pounds.

The main reason this case didn’t feature higher on the list is because of its durability, or lack thereof. While the corners seem strong, you can physically squish the sides and front with your bare hands. So if you dropped it, it could potentially dent. It didn’t score top marks on our waterproof test either, as while the inside remained mostly dry, we noticed that water had seeped into the velvet fabric in certain areas. But, if you don’t plan to take your case out in the rain and you don’t tend to drop it, there’s little reason not to invest in this one. The whole package is brilliant for someone who has just purchased the Meta Quest 2.

7. Casematix Hard Case

The Casematix Hard Case is for serious game players who care about security above all. It’s essentially a full-size briefcase measuring 16 x 14 x 6 inches. Unlike any of the other cases we tested, this one features a foam layer inside which you can tear to fit your console and accessories. It’s opened and closed using two latches, and the single, plastic handle has holes for padlocks on each side. The exterior is made from plastic to give it a solid finish, and both the front and back are indented to fit the logo and convey the security of the design.

We were admittedly a little intimidated by this design at first. Knowing that you yourself have to tear the foam is intimidating — if you tear it wrong, there’s no going back. The instructions try to reassure you that you can reuse foam you tear away to pad it out, but I can’t imagine anything more annoying than having to do that each time you fit the console. You have to first draw around the console on the foam, which was actually quite difficult. The pencil doesn’t show up and you can only just see ballpoint pen marks. A permanent marker would definitely work, but I was reluctant to use that around my Meta Quest 2. It was fairly easy to tear the foam, but it was time-consuming — I needed about 20 minutes to do the headset and controls. Thankfully I’d measured it out correctly and everything fit fine. Plus I had room to spare if I wanted to extend the shapes to fit the Elite Strap or add more for accessories.

Even with violent motions, my console didn’t budge and everything stayed in place, which is what makes the Casematix Hard Case one of the best Meta Quest cases. This combined with the hard exterior and padlock holes, easily makes it the most secure case we’ve seen. The customization of the foam is a great selling point, too, although this design is not without its drawbacks. It’s heavy and bulky, so you won’t want to carry it far. Plus, the solid plastic handle won’t win any awards for comfort either. It’s also not waterproof — after drenching the case, we found the foam was wet underneath and had seeped around the sides. But, it is the best when it comes to security, and if you’re willing to risk tearing the foam yourself, you could land the perfect fit.

How we tested the best Meta Quest 2 Cases

We called in several Meta Quest 2 Cases of varying sizes and designs to see which could deliver in every respect. First, we looked at how easy the case was to access as well as how intuitive it was to fit the console and controls. If the case claimed it could fit the Elite Strap with Battery, we checked that too. Next, we considered the security of the case by shaking each case and listening out or feeling for movement. Only one case managed to hold the console firmly in place, the Casematix Hard Case.

After that, we considered the quality of the design and the included accessories, not to mention the overall strength and durability of the case. Finally, we drenched each case in the shower for 10 seconds to see if there were any leaks. The size of the design, comfort when carrying and weight were also assessed.

Travel + Leisure / Brian Kopinski

Keeping your tech organized and accessible is essential for a stress-free travel experience. Sure, we used to just toss our tech items in a clean toiletry case and call it a day, but that was before we had so much stuff. These days it seems like there’s a different cable for every device, and a different device for practically everything. We’d rather spend a little extra time in the sun than be fiddling with tangled charging cords or searching for the correct generation USB plug.

These travel tech organizers will keep you juiced up, plugged in, and zoned out without skipping a beat. We’ve got picks for the ultra-minimalist who can survive with the bare essentials, the unabashed maximalist who needs space for everything, and everyone in between.

Best Overall

Calpak tech organizer.

It’s got a packable, slim profile but still fits the essentials.

The retention bands can lose elasticity quickly when storing overly bulky items.

This minimalist bag has a spot for all your essential travel tech accessories and comes with the quality and cachet of the Calpak name. The clamshell design makes it a cinch to grab your gear without fiddling with deep pockets or multiple organization layers. Plus, this tech organizer sports the right amount of padding — enough to cushion but so much that adds unnecessary bulk — and its slim 1.5 inch-deep profile still fits nicely in a carry-on or personal item bag. The top grab handle makes it easy to pull out and carry, too.

All three full-side storage pockets have convenient pull tab zippers, and two have front mesh fabric, so you can assess their contents in one quick look. We found the two interior slip pockets large enough to hold a portable charging bank and loved how the four elastic retention bands kept our cords separated, snug, and at the ready. Just note that these bands can stretch out over time; faster if you store very thick or bulky cords. Plus this case comes in 12 colors and patterns, so it’s simple to pair the perfect bag with your travel style.

The Details: 9.5 x 7 x 1.5 inches | 0.25 pounds | Polyester and polyethylene

Best Budget

Bevegekos tech organizer travel case.

You get twice the usual storage area with this organizer’s two-layer, double-clamshell design.

The smaller compartments are tiny and reduce the overall functionality of the organizer.

There are not a lot of bells and whistles with this basic organizer, but it delivers for anyone who doesn’t travel often or those who don’t have many tech accessories to pack. We really liked the extra value that the double-layer clamshell design gives. Instead of the usual two interior storage walls, this organizer has four. You’ll get two larger slip pockets for storing a smartphone or charging bank, three medium-sized mesh pockets for things like wireless earbuds or USB charging cables, and a deep slip pocket with two fairly tight small mesh slip pockets on top. The two small mesh pockets can only really fit something small, like an SD card, leaving it to feel a bit outdated and like a waste of space. Instead, we’d rather see this whole panel used as another large slip pocket. This bag also comes in medium and large versions, with varying dimensions and deeper pocket sizes.

The Details: 7.48 x 4.33 x 2.16 inches | 3.87 ounces | Jacquard | Water-resistant

Best Roll-up

Procase travel gear organizer.

The elastic closure band keeps it secure whether it’s stuffed or slightly filled.

There is a risk of items slipping out if the elastic on the interior pockets loosens.

Unlike a zippered bag with a fixed width, this rolling design allows you to pack in a variety of tech accessories without having to worry as much about volume constraints. With this organizer bag, you’ll be able to stuff all the pockets and roll it up. The elastic band closure will secure the roll whether you’ve packed a lot or a little. Other rolling bags we’ve seen have a fixed snap or buckle closure, which means you’ve got to fill the bag exactly in order to get a secure closure. We also like that when this unrolls, your entire tech set is laid out and easy to access. Storage compartments include three mesh zippered pockets, six retention bands for cords, three mini slip pockets, and two expandable nylon slip pockets. We do want to flag that once the elastic pockets start to loosen, you may run the risk of some items sliding out.

The Details: 17 x 9 inches (laid flat), 4.5 × 9 inches (rolled up) | 4.6 ounces | Nylon | Water-resistant

Best Everyday Use

Dagne dover tech organizer.

Dagne Dover

There’s a D-ring loop that can clip into a main bag for easy locating on the go.

It’s best used with Apple products.

This simple but effective tech organizer from Dagne Dover is a no-fuss solution for making sure you always have your essential tech accessories with you. Like with many compact travel tech organizers, the Dagne Dover Arlo Tech Organizer seems to work best with Apple products (or products with a similar size and shape). It’s a great organizer for everyday use during commutes with compartments for a computer charging cable extender, charging brick, a small USB charging wall adapter, and a USB charging cord. We also like the small, plastic D-ring that can be clipped into a larger commuter backpack. The tough neoprene material is waterproof, too. So if you get caught in bad weather, you don’t have to panic. We like the small version but it also comes in a large size for those with more gear.

The Details: 4.5 x 2.25 x 5 inches | 5 ounces | Neoprene, recycled polyester | Waterproof

Mark & Graham Essential Tech Folio

Mark & Graham

Design details boost the overall look of the folio.

It’s leather and can be ruined with excessive water exposure.

With two-toned colorways and design details like angled leather pocket sleeves, this folio earns extra style points. Thankfully, it’s not looks over function as you use tasseled leather pulls to navigate the gold metal zip. Once opened, you’ll see one side with two inset sleeves, a change pocket, and cut-slots for your ID and other cards along with a spot for a tablet; the large version can fit a standard iPad but it also comes in a small size that fits an iPad Mini. The other side has well-spaced leather slip pockets for things like a wireless earbuds case, a smartphone, a passport, and thin loose charging cables. Giving it as a gift? You can go the extra mile and personalize it with a gold or silver foil embossed monogram or larger printed letters. This is a real leather product, so it’ll need to be handled with care. Wipe off and dry any water to avoid spotting or damage.

The Details: 8.5 x 11 x 1 inches | Leather

Best Cable Organizer

Side by side cable organizer tech bag.

It has a very packable shape and unbeatable storage capabilities (that even fits bulky PC chargers).

Most of its storage organization uses retention straps.

This organizer bag immediately stands out among others because of its shape. It goes against the grain of the usual boxy design and goes for slim length. We love it not only because this makes it extremely convenient to pack (especially in a duffel or backpack) but also because it requires less bending for your cords. It can accommodate long cords easily and manages to do what few tech organizers can: fit those thick PC charging cords , including the brick. The outer panels have a flexible compression fabric that holds items in place but can stretch to fit oddly shaped or oversized accessories. Items are stored in two separate zippered compartment sides, mostly using elastic retention straps of different sizes. There’s only one zippered pocket inside. It’s mesh and roughly the size of a credit card.

The Details: 10.2 x 3.5 x 1.6 inches | 9 ounces | 300D polyester, elastane nylon

Best With Stand-up Case

Native union stow lite organizer.

It looks smart and is made from soft but durable recycled materials.

There’s no handle or wrist strap.

This soft-sided tech organizer bag has an A-line silhouette that ensures it will stand up on its own, making it more convenient when you’re searching for something or loading it up before a trip. We like how simple but stylish it is. It's made from recycled plastic bottles with a leather zipper trim that kicks up the look (though we wrestled with the zipper a few times because of the trim). It’s a great pick for travelers who have a few specific items they want to store separately for quick access, but don’t mind tossing other items in the main pocket. The interior organization includes five lightly padded slip pockets for items like USB charging cords, Bluetooth mouse, and earbuds with the case. The main pocket can be a bit snug when the pockets are full but can generally fit an iPhone charger and MacBook charger (both with bricks), a slim charging bank, a few extra USB cables, and small wall adapters. One thing we found to be lacking? You can only carry it like a clutch — there’s no handle strap or detachable wristband.

The Details: ‎4.53 x 7.48 x 2.56 inches | 3.18 ounces | Leather and recycled polyester | Water-repellent

Best Leather

Parker clay utility pouch.

Parker Clay

The beautiful and durable leather is sourced from Ethiopia.

The partially zippered opening can make it annoying to load.

If you’re the type of person who likes to keep their valuables close, this gorgeous leather tech pouch is carried like a clutch. It’s made from sustainable goat leather from Ethiopia, which looks as luxe as it feels against your palm. We like bringing this pouch in our personal item and packing it with our in-flight entertainment tech essentials like an iPad mini, Kindle, smartphone, earbuds with a case, and corresponding chargers. It’s also best unloaded at your seat since you’ll only get a two-thirds opening, which can block access and be especially frustrating when loading it up. On the plus side, a quick change of contents and this pouch can easily become a clutch.

The Details: 10 x 7 x 0.25 inches | Leather

Best for Apple Products

Away the tech case.

It can fit a boxy universal travel adapter.

The deep shape that takes up twice as much room as other comparable products.

Away’s The Tech Case follows the brand’s reputation of high-quality travel gear that goes big on understated style and function. This soft-sided case is water-resistant and has a spacious dual level design that’s good for storing and organizing bulky tech accessories when traveling. The flip-top zipper closure has three retention bands that are the perfect size for storing USB charging cords and an earbuds case. On the opposite side, there’s a shallow compartment with a mesh panel that unzips, revealing access to a deeper bottom compartment where you can store your laptop charging cable, extension cable, and power brick. We like it because it’s possible to fit a universal plug adapter in this space, making it perfect for international travel. However, at over six inches in depth, it can be tougher to pack simply because of its own bulky shape; so keep that in mind if you’re primarily a carry-on traveler.

The Details: 6.3 x 4.7 x 2.95 inches | 3.7 ounces | Nylon  | Water-resistant

Best Fan-style

Inateck electronics case.

It’s a durable and simple organizer with great capacity.

Since it opens like a book, not all the pockets have security features.

If you’re the type of person who prefers to see all of your items at a glance, consider the Inateck Electronics Organizer Travel Case. It has a unique accordion fan design that opens like a book, neatly exposing its contents. You’ll still get great organization on the inside, too. The large size is approximately the size of a toiletry case and is big enough to fit a Nintendo Switch. The 1200D polyester material is hardy enough to hold up for frequent travelers and makes the bag water-repellent, too. Inside, you’ll find soft and stretchy lycra material with eight various slip pockets, a large velcro-secured pocket, and seven elastic retention straps. Unfortunately, most of the slip pockets do not have elastic rims or security straps, so you’ll want to be sure to have a flat surface since it opens up 180 degrees.

The Details: 10.24 x 3.74 x 5.91 inches | 8.2 ounces | 1200D polyester | Water-repellent

Best Hardsisde

Procase hard travel electronic organizer case.

The water resistance and shock absorption give us extra piece of mind.

It works best for smaller items that aren’t too bulky.

A hardside case is the way to go when it comes to protecting your most expensive tech accessories. This ProCase Hard Travel Electronics Organizer has a durable, water-resistant EVA shell and shock-absorbing lining that works double time to keep your electronics safe from spills, drops, and splashes. We like the convenient wristlet strap and dual-compartment design. The storage capacity is more than enough, with five zippered mesh pockets and two compression slip pockets. However, it’s not designed to hold bulky items; just smaller tech accessories, which is a bit of a bummer considering the overall size. If you need more space, opt for the large or extra-large versions.

The Details: 9.72 x 5.82 x 2.55 inches | 0.31 ounces | EVA | Water-resistant

Tips for Buying a Travel Tech Organizer

Know what items you need to store.

Take stock of your tech items to make sure your desired tech organizer has the capacity and capability to hold what you need it to. This is particularly important if you’ve got a bulky item or two, or if the majority of your stuff is small and easy to lose. If you’re having trouble finding an organizer that fits your needs, consider what your basic essentials are and what might be able to be safely and securely packed elsewhere. You’ll also want to consider where you’ll be packing the organizer to make sure it’ll fit in your bag while still giving you room to pack anything else you need.

Consider durability and water resistance

Are you a frequent traveler or just preparing for a one-off trip? Frequent travelers will want to pay more attention to the durability of their tech organizer than someone who won’t be using the product repeatedly over a short period of time. Budget-friendly doesn’t always mean poorly-made, as you’ll see with our picks, and products with a higher price point may not deliver when it comes to key things like water resistance. Leather looks great and can look even better over time, but it’s easily ruined by scrapes and exposure to liquid. On the flip side, ripstop material like 600D polyester or EVA won’t look as luxurious but will last much longer and provide better protection against bumps, drops, and spills. Also, consider the quality of your organizer's zipper. This is an oft-overlooked detail that can make or break how much use you can get out of a product. Once the zipper breaks, it’s usually game over.

Storing your tech in one spot while traveling helps you to keep track of it, especially the smaller pieces, while you’re away from home. Using a storage option with built-in organization keeps your sanity. Tossing your essentials into a single-pocket bag is convenient — until you need them, and tech organizers help to avoid the frantic fishing through your luggage for a charger or that important flash drive. They can also help keep cords from tangling, a major win and frustration saver.

Depending on the size, you can pack your travel tech organizer in your checked bag, carry-on, or personal item. However, many travelers are wary of packing anything valuable like tech in their checked luggage for fear of theft or damage, plus you’ll want to make sure there are no power banks or other devices prohibited from the cargo hold. It’s most common to bring an organizer into the cabin which also allows you to access it during your travel day as needed.

Why Trust Travel + Leisure

You fly for hours, anticipating your arrival, wanting to take in the area and the views of another country far away from your departure airport. The airport and the area you leave from is detailed and visually full, and you know you have a great airport scenery waiting for you at the other end of the flight, then when you arrive...

...  Nothing, but flat plain emptiness and the same boring standard X-Plane basic scenery, worse there is no OSM (Open Street Map) data in the tile either, so there is no road or autogen detailing in there as well, just well nothing.

When Drzewiecki Design released their UUEE Sheremetyevo Airport XP , I loved it because it was like a visitor from the Cold War past, the Soviet era, and it was also great scenery and great choice of a destination to fly to from any of the capitals of Europe...  but that was it, just this great airport in the middle of nothingness, bland....   zero ville.

Moscow old.jpg

Now Drzewiecki Design has released "Moscow City"  a scenery package to compliment their UUEE Sheremetyevo, and boy how much a difference this release has done to this totally boring area.

To get the full first impression effect I flew JARDesign's A320neo from EFHK Vatnaa, Helsinki to UUEE Sheremetyevo which is flight Finnair AY153 which is a daily 9.25am service.

Moscow City_ Dep Vatnaa 1.jpg

First Impressions

I was surprised to start picking up scenery still quite away out from central Moscow, as I approached my 6000ft transition altitude. Here there was buildings and houses and the physical visual notes you were arriving somewhere.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 1.jpg

Looking hard at the horizon through the A320's windows and you could see the iconic silhouette of Moscow city.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 5.jpg

The scenery provides lite versions of all Moscow's Airports, this is UUWW Vnukovo, which was easily recognisable as you flew over. As you fly closer to the centre of the city the density of the objects below becomes quite heavy as the landscape fills in. You have all kinds of infrastructure including, blocks of flats, tower blocks, factories, housing, skyscrapers and almost everything that makes up an urban landscape, in all there is 2000 custom-made buildings that makes up this impressive scenery.

A note here in that you don't get that rolling as you move feeling effect where as it just suddenly appears in front of you and then quickly disappears behind as soon as you have flown out over the area. There is a slight effect of that as there has to be, but only in the far distance and as you can see from the images the views in every direction are widespread and visually it is very good to excellent.

The "Seven Sisters" or "Stalinist skyscrapers" built from 1947 to 1953 are all in the scenery with their "Wedding Cake" architecture or officially  Russian Baroque               - Gothic style. Most famous is the Moscow State University, front and centre of the image below.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival LG 16.jpg

Central Moscow is excellent and extremely realistic, and you really need a travel guide to pick out the landmarks and detail, but it is hard to miss the Red Kremlin complex  and St Peter's square from the air.  Both sides of the aircraft is visually full until you have crossed right over the city.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 7.jpg

I am not a fan of the generated 3d OSM scenery, but this is very good in blending in perfectly with the X-Plane default scenery and giving you a smooth transition from country to urban and back again with great realism.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 14.jpg

Over the city and turning north towards Sheremetyevo, another Moscow airport UUMU Chkalovsky is represented on the turn.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 17.jpg

The city skyline is now easily visible on landing at Sheremetyevo, and that really helps in the arrival factor, more so in that the cities building infrastructure spread now comes up and around the airport to fill the gaps to the city itself, and making the original  Sheremetyevo scenery that was so open and lonely in the old X-Plane view is now a big part of the whole in this combination. No doubt it really brings this always good scenery now alive and very usable.

Moscow City_ Dep arrival 19.jpg

Sheremetyevo Airport

Before we move on to the city itself. It is important to note the area around UUEE Sheremetyevo itself.

Moscow Sheremetyevo 1.jpg

Compare the large image above to the earlier image at the start of this review to see the amount of change there is around UUEE Sheremetyevo with the addition of this Moscow City package. The two sceneries are of course meant to be used together, and in reality it would look odd if you had Moscow City scenery installed without the Sheremetyevo scenery included to fill out the northern areas. A highlight is that both sceneries together form a single whole, as the areas between the airport and the central city area are well filled in and that gives you a huge area of coverage and the full visual aspect.

To get a closer lower look at the Moscow Center I commandeered Dreamfoil's lovely Bell 407.

Moscow Buildings 1.jpg

There is a 4.000kmÂČ total area covered with this scenery here, and you have expect some sort of building replication to cover all that ground. There is of course but as well in the fact there is also enough variations as to not keep it all interesting and not obviously visually obvious.

Moscow Buildings 2.jpg

The closer you go to the central area, the variations in the buildings change there in style and density as well. And then more of the iconic buildings start to appear as you get closer in again to the middle. The business district is excellent, with a lot of business towers and the more modern futuristic skyscraper architecture that stands out in every view point in eye scans across the city.

Moscow Buildings 5.jpg

The more recent is in tune with the more older Stalinist era that makes up the Moscow skyline.

The Kremlin Complex and the Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed (St Basil's) is excellently represented and so is "Red Square"

Moscow Buildings 10.jpg

There are Orthodox churches everywhere and all the big icons in the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Grand Arena of the Central Lenin Stadium, Otkrytive Arena and department stores, museums and power stations and more....

I did have issues with many buildings floating, including the Kremlin. I tried both "Runways follow terrain contours" on and off with no flattening of the objects and there is no information in the manual either on how to fix the problem.

Night lighting is very good, yes there is again a repeatable pattern to the majority of the hundreds of the apartment blocks that does stand out, but the more individual buildings do all have that personal touch and some buildings look really very good.

Moscow Buildings Night 1.jpg

The highlight here is the business district which looks magnificent and is very realistic from any direction at night as is the lit Stadium.

Moscow Buildings Night 3.jpg

Although away from the central area the Ostankino Tower that stands 540.1 metres (1,772 ft) tall, and is the tallest freestanding structure in Europe and it looks great at night and is a very good position indicator from the air from any direction.

Included Moscow Airports

As noted also included in the scenery are seven airports and several helipads.

UUWW Vnukovo

Moscow UUWW Vnukovo 1.jpg

The futuristic Vnukovo International is very good for a lite version, with great terminals and lots of small detailing. Only thing missing is the static aircraft and a bit more ramp equipment, but otherwise it is highly usable.

UUDD Domodedovo

Moscow UUDD Domodedovo 1.jpg

The oldest of Moscow's International airports is Domodedovo. Again it is quite devoid of static aircraft and I am not crazy about the blue terminal glass work, but it is still a very workable scenery to use and has a lot of well made objects.

UUBW Zhukovsky

Moscow UUBW Zhukovsky 1.jpg

Zhukovsky was a major aircraft testing facility since the  cold war years, with most of the major Russian Experimental Design Bureau's having facilities here. It is also now used by the Ministry of Emergency Situations! and cargo carriers. It was also used as a test site for the Soviet Buran  reusable Spacecraft because it has the world's second longest pubic runway at at 5,402 m (17,723 ft). Mostly it is a collection of very large hangars but has a lot of static aircraft in storage.

UUMO Ostafyevo International Business Airport

Moscow UUMo Ostafyevo 1.jpg

A former military airbase. Ostafyevo features a new modern glass terminal, and caters primarily to business aviation.

UUMU Chkalovsky

Moscow UUMU Chkalovsky 1.jpg

Chkalovsky is a military logistics airport that is famous for it's support for the Russian Space program and transport to Star City and the Yuri A. Gagarin State Scientific Research-and-Testing Cosmonaut Training Center. Yuri Gagarin left here on his final flight before crashing by the town of Kirzhach.

UUBM Myachkovo Airport

Moscow UUBM Myachkovo 1.jpg

Myachkovo is a small General Aviation Airport that is owned by the Finpromko company. Cargo aircraft up to the size of the Ilyushin ll-76 freighter can also use the airport.

UUMB Kubinka

Moscow UUMB Kubinka 1.jpg

Kubinka has been a significant Russian military airbase and large airshows are held here to show off the Russian military might.

There is also provided UUU1 Kremlin Airport, within the Kremlin walls, but I couldn't get it to work? There are two pads in H1 and H2.

Your first thoughts after reviewing this excellent Moscow scenery is not with this actual package. You then wish that you could have this extensive scenery at London, Rome, Madrid, Berlin and the list could go on with any of your favorite European Cities, and don't count a load in the Middle East and Asia. But a London scenery like this would certainly be a godsend in our X-Plane world. Drzewiecki Design has already done Warsaw and Manhattan, so there is always hope.

It is not cheap either and you need to add in their UUEE Sheremetyevo scenery package on top of that as well. But you get an awful lot of ground covered here for your money, with the area covered here that is extensive...  huge and flying into Moscow will never be the same again.

A few areas to note in one that in my case a few of the buildings floated, the download is huge load at 1.4gb and this Russian area is not the best for navigation aids and programming FMS units as most waypoints are not recognised. Most of the airports ILS coordinates also have to checked and recalibrated (Drzewiecki Design do provide all the correct coordinates) so there is a little work to do to set up repeat services but the work is worth the results.

Not only is the actual Moscow city and all it's buildings supported, you also get seven (if lite versions) of Moscow's other airports included as well, but the framerate processing of all this huge amount of objects and scale is pretty good to excellent. Framerate does hurt more on a lower (helicopter) level and certainly you need a computer with a little extra power is in no doubt required, but overall for the size of the area the scenery is extremely efficient.

Yes I was impressed by this Moscow City Scenery, as this once very barren area of X-Plane is now a very attractive repeat destination as nothing can give you a greater fulfilment than seeing your destination appear in the distance and then give you a huge visual experience as you fly over and approach your destination.

Moscow City certainly delivers that and more...  Just more sceneries like this please!

Thank you for this very thorough (as always) review. I just bought it (it's on sale) and have only one disappointment so far: Red Square has no ILS or any landing aids at all for that matter. And what a nightmare of an approach! Also I was hoping the package would include an add-on that gives my c172 a big cup holder for my Stoli. Otherwise the scenery is gorgeous. What a country!

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Moscow Travel Guide

Despite the Soviet past, today’s Moscow is a dynamic, cutting-edge city – and the most populous in Europe. Well-heeled Muscovites flaunt their wealth by sipping Champagne with sushi at elite restaurants and shopping for designer labels at frighteningly expensive boutiques. Meanwhile, a growing middle-class has seen a proliferation of hip bars and trendy cultural centres.

While the Russian capital has striven to move on, recent tensions with the West have stirred up memories of the past. Moscow has previously led the way with protests against Vladimir Putin, but even with the tumbling ruble and economic sanctions, his popularity remains strong.

This doesn’t make Russia a no-go area, and Moscow – with its cosmopolitan, globe-trotting denizens – is not the formidable crucible often depicted. In summer, temperatures soar and the city’s vast parklands flourish. The historic Gorky Park received a complete makeover in 2012, installing free Wi-Fi and even a beach, while the Soviet behemoth that was the Rossiya Hotel has been demolished to make way for an ambitious central park.

Before that project comes to fruition, there is Red Square to marvel at, not least the mind-boggling St Basil’s Cathedral. Built by Ivan the Terrible in the 16th century, its multi-coloured domes and acid-trip patterns seem to defy logic. Nearby is the 14th-century Kremlin and seat of the tsars.

Indeed architecture is one of the city’s main attractions, especially for aficionados of Soviet buildings. All too many have been destroyed to make way for gleaming 21st-century skyscrapers, but Stalin’s unmistakable Seven Sisters still stand tall against the modern towers.

The city is naturally keen to celebrate its great writers, composers and artists too. This sophisticated city boasts world-class institutions like the Bolshoi Theatre, the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts.

As for nightlife, the city is becoming increasingly hedonistic – whether jazz, rock or vodka is your thing, there are plenty of options. Even the culinary circuit has come on leaps and bounds, though an evening at one of the city’s growing stable of world-class restaurants requires considerable investment. This is, after all, a capital of oligarchs.

Top 5: Destinations fit for spies

Live out your secret agent dreams while you perfect your plotting with these spy-inspired destinations

Book Accommodation

Featured hotels, hotel baltschug kempinski.

Facing the Kremlin across the Moskva River, the opulent Baltschug Kempinski is elegance incarnate. Rooms are lavish, with flowing drapes, piles of soft linen and every imaginable convenience, but it's the views of domes and spires across the river that steal the show. There's a plush restaurant with a view of St Basil's, plus a swish spa too.

Izmailovo (Gamma-Delta)

Constructed to accommodate visitors to the 1980 Olympics, the concrete towers of the Izmailovo boast a staggering 8,000 rooms. Institutional in atmosphere, and located far out in the northern suburbs, the hotel is handy for the enormous Izmaylovo Market and has decent city centre links. There are several onsite restaurants and in-room Wi-Fi is available too.

Peking Hotel

Built in 1956 as a little sister to Stalin's Seven Sister skyscrapers, and intended as post-war headquarters for the secret police, Moscow's Peking Hotel is a heritage hotel with a small 'h', in a good location just northwest of the centre. Although slightly old-fashioned, its 130 rooms are comfortable enough, with satellite TV and en-suite bathrooms.

Warsaw Hotel

Although its location may not be one of Moscow's most picturesque, the Warsaw Hotel is convenient for Gorky Park. Considering the quality of the competition, this is one of the best cheap options in the city, with clean and comfortable rooms, albeit in a rather dated style. Wi-Fi is complimentary and the Oktyabrskaya Metro station is right next door.

Golden Apple

A boutique hotel on a refreshingly human scale, the Golden Apple offers imaginative styling and a personal touch that many 5-star hotels lack. Behind the baroque facade, its minimalist rooms are cosy, and there's an onsite restaurant and an open-plan bar too. Staff speak excellent English and there's Wi-Fi access, a gym and a sauna.

Historical Hotel Sovietsky

In the 1950s, Joseph Stalin decreed that the famous Yar restaurant should be upgraded to a hotel and the Historical Hotel Sovietsky was born. It quickly became a showcase for the image of sophistication that the Soviet government wished to present to the world, and its 107 rooms still conjures up the nostalgia of this period in history.
