I woke up today to a balmy 74ºF in Boston and suddenly felt the first trumpets of the summer. And later, the Premier League and LaLiga announced they would be around this side of the Atlantic during the sunshine season and decided to wear shorts and flip-flops to fit the mood.
We already talked to you about the Premier League visit here , so this post will solely focus on LaLiga. Who is coming? When and where are they coming? And who is playing against who?
Easy, the answers are coming.
LaLiga Summer Tour 2023 Mexico, United States
LaLiga has been dreaming about hosting regular season matches on this side of the world for a long time, but for now, having friendly games during the off-season is the only chance available.
The U.S. is a periodic destination in this context, but LaLiga has also decided to add a couple of games in México to the calendar this year. In fact, the tour starts there on Aug. 2.
The matches?
- Atlético de Madrid vs. Real Sociedad – Estadio BBVA, Monterrey – 9 p.m. ET
- Sevilla vs. Real Betis – Estadio Akron, Guadalajara – 11 p.m. ET
Both games are in 2026 World Cup stadiums and El Derbi Andaluz between Sevilla and Betis surely will bring special sauce, considering Tecatito Corona and local boy Andrés Guardado could clash against each other.

La liga announces plans for summer tour of usa and mexico.
- 17 March 2023
La Liga has announced plans for a first summer tour of the United States and Mexico beginning later this year.
The league’s latest development strategy is organised by Relevent Sports – one of the most influential privately-owned international football companies in the world.
It will feature friendly matches between some of the division’s ‘legendary’ clubs.
However, it is understood that Real Madrid and Barcelona, who meet in El Clasico this weekend , are not expected to compete in the tour.
The tour is aimed at establishing a footprint of the Spanish top-flight division in key markets, including North America, and provide fans with an opportunity to watch some of the league’s best players and teams compete in their own backyard.
The games will take place in various cities across the United States and Mexico and are expected to attract a large number of fans from different parts of the country.
A statement from La Liga said: “The summer tour is part of La Liga and its clubs’ strategy to grow the Spanish Professional League’s footprint in the United States and Mexico.
“The tour will make its first stop in 2023 in the United States and Mexico. It will continue the strategy to develop and grow the league, its clubs, and competitions in North American markets.
“The United States and Mexico represent an important opportunity for La Liga and its clubs in brand and business development, especially in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup in 2016.”
The 2023 summer tour will take place during the first week of August, and the teams and cities where the friendly matches will take place will be announced in the coming days.
La Liga is not alone in its quest to grow viewership in the American market. Premier League club Manchester United have also confirmed that their pre-season tour scheduled for later this year will take place in the US.
It will be the first time the Red Devils prepare for a new campaign in North America since the summer of 2018, when they visited five US states, including Arizona, California and Miami.

Sevilla have struggled domestically this season but are still involved in the quarter finals of the Europa League where they face Manchester United. The other three sides are looking good to qualify for European competitions next season with Diego Simeone’s Atleti looking to secure second place as they now trail Real Madrid by just two points. LaLiga launches platform organizing US summer tour and games
by Chris Moore March 17, 2023
LaLiga has announced a new platform that will organize matches throughout the summertime. ‘LaLiga Summer Tour’ should grow the Spanish league in other areas outside of the European nation. League officials are particularly focused on the North American market and these friendly matches will bring Spanish teams Stateside.
“The launch of the ‘LaLiga Summer Tour’ represents LaLiga’s desire to create a platform that allows us to take its teams to different parts of the world, through friendly matches, and in turn gives all of our clubs the opportunity to collectively develop business opportunities in specific priority markets,” said executive general director of LaLiga Oscar Mayo.
LaLiga Summer Tour will feature four Spanish clubs
Cities in the U.S. and Mexico will host games in the first iteration of the ‘LaLiga Summer Tour’ this summer. LaLiga revealed that four “legendary” Spanish top flight teams feature in the competition. However, Barcelona and Real Madrid will apparently not take part of the tour.
“The United States and Mexico represent an important opportunity for LaLiga and its clubs in brand and business development, especially in the run-up to the FIFA World Cup in 2026,” added Boris Gartner, CEO of LaLiga North America.
“The creation of the ‘LaLiga Summer Tour’ platform and the commitment to be present in this region consistently over the next three years will go a long way to grow the competition and reach out to local fans and bring all the excitement and passion that LaLiga has.”
ICC owners to manage friendlies
Relevent Sports Group will also manage and organize the upcoming summer friendly matches. The media company based out of New York will be a familiar name to many soccer fans Stateside. Relevent operated the International Champions Cup (ICC) competition. The ICC was a popular preseason tournament that regularly featured top teams around the globe. However, the COVID-19 pandemic canceled ICC competitions since 2020.
Nevertheless, the upcoming ‘LaLiga Summer Tour’ will take place in early August. Featured teams and host cities come out in the near future. ESPN and SKY are media partners here in the States and Mexico respectively.

The tour featuring Atlético de Madrid, Real Betis, Real Sociedad and Sevilla FC brought LALIGA fans in Mexico and the United States together at four matches: ElGranDerbi, held at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara (Mexico); Atlético de Madrid - Real Sociedad, played at the Estadio BBVA in Monterrey (Mexico); and two matches staged at Oracle Park in San Francisco (USA): Real Sociedad - Real Betis and Sevilla FC - Atlético de Madrid.
In total, more than 100,000 fans packed the stands of the three stadiums with more than 30 different activities involving LALIGA sponsors, including a visit to EA SPORTS headquarters in San Francisco. There were also events with Sorare, Verizon, PUMA, Golball, CHUBB, Motorola and Camarena which included players. In addition, the clubs visited local teams such as the Golden State Warriors and the San Francisco 49ers.
LALIGA Summer Tour perfectly complements LALIGA North America's strategy to expand the fan base of the competition and clubs in the United States and Mexico, in attracting a young and multicultural audience. In partnership with Relevent Sports, the leading football media and events company in North America, LALIGA Summer Tour was the largest and most comprehensive tour ever organised outside of Spain.
For Boris Gartner, CEO of LALIGA North America , “this first edition of the LALIGA Summer Tour serves as an opportunity to see the passion at our clubs' matches outside Spain and as a foundation for the next editions. It's a crucial move in demonstrating and reinforcing LALIGA's international expansion, both in Mexico and the United States, which are two strategic territories for the majority of LALIGA clubs. We will keep working to bring the competition even closer to our fans and continue to create initiatives - such as the LALIGA Summer Tour - to bring the best clubs to North America”.

Musher forced to kill, gut moose during 2024 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race: 'It was ugly'
The musher, dallas seavey, had to shoot the moose to protect himself and his dog team.
2024 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race participant Dallas Seavey was forced to shot and kill a moose in order to protect himself and his dog team Monday. This incident occurred around 100 miles into the 1,000-mile race course, according to Iditarod officials.
The moose "became entangled with the dogs and the musher on the trail" as Seavey and his team made it an estimated 14 miles past the Skwetna checkpoint, according to a statement from the Iditarod . Seavey ended up shooting the moose in self-defense and informed race officials of the incident around 1:45 a.m. Monday.
Once Seavey arrived at the Finger Lake checkpoint around 8 a.m., he had to drop one of his dogs from the race after the dog got injured in the encounter with the moose. The dog, who goes by the name "Faloo," was flown to Anchorage, Alaska to receive veterinary care.
According to Iditarod rules, mushers are permitted to carry firearms for protection from wildlife, but are required to gut any big game animal they shoot in order for it to be salvaged.
Another Iditarod participant, Jessie Holmes, told the Iditarod Insider he mushed through the same section of the course ahead of Seavey and stated he saw an angry moose, which could've been the same one Seavey was forced to kill.
"I had to punch a moose in the nose out there," Holmes said. "Oh, my gosh."
Race officials stated they would gather more information regarding the incident.
