Current NCL Menus - Fall 2023

Cool Cruiser

Hello fellow NCL cruisers ….

Does anyone have photos of NCL’s current Menus they are willing to post here? If so would you also kindly include the ship and date (or itinerary start/stop, or R/T)?  This would be a thread similar to the cabin review thread.

I’ve scoured a few roll calls and a few “trip reports” but haven’t found most of the ones I’m interested in. Wine lists and bar menus would also be welcomed!

Thank  you most sincerely !

So, according to what was said at a recent Q&A session, there are 21 (22?) menus available fleetwide and each head chef chooses from those menus.  Which means, I assume, they could stick with the same menu rotation each sailing or change it up and rotate through each and every one over the course of multiple trips.

Roast Beef in the buffet on day 1 seems to be fairly consistent tho.

Prime Rib first day on buffet. 5 people in my group last week had it and said it was excellent. They chose their preferred doneness. Breakaway aug. 23 - September 3rd

@BirdTravels  is currently on a cruise, posting daily menus.

Profcruise has all the menus posted on their website.

@julig22  that is certainly interesting factoid! Thanks for sharing  🏆

@lizygirl3  I think I’d much rather have been at your buffet than @julig22 ’s - prime rib is one of my favorite beef cuts (tied with a porterhouse 🥩 behind the filet 🥩 )

thank you both for sharing

@Sexydva74  I do thank you for that lead… I haven’t encountered Prof Cruise’s website before. Very well done but searching on it was not easy. She did a very nice review (link follows) of the  “Wines Around the World”  Latitudes benefit for Platinum and above. I was curious because unable to get in on last 2 sailings - fully booked by people on B2Bs or with earlier checkins/higher status/havens. Hoping to be able to attend on upcoming TA.

Seems her most current NCL menus are the  2022 NCL bar & resto menus.  I recognize several from last falls’ cruising.

Hi. I've only seen 7 day menus in the main dining room for dinner. What about 10 day cruises? Does the last 3 nights repeat night 1,2 and 3? Trying to make specialty dining reservations  so any information  will be helpful.

See post #2 above.

There are reportedly 21 different daily MDR menus.  Our longest cruise was 12 days and I can verify there were different MDR menus for each day.   Good variety for us 😊

We have usually seen menus 1 to 7 in the same order, but they can mix them up if they wish.  (I never book a specialty for day 6!)

We have also seen 3 different MDR lunch menus.   The MDR lunch is only open on embarkation day and 'at sea' days, so not sure if there are more than three.

@Sand and Seas  what’s special about Day 6 that you avoid the specialty resto (“I never book a specialty for day 6!)”) ? Standard surf n turf or lobster night in MDR or something?  I never noticed anything specific myself.

Sorry, nothing that special for most people.    It's been way too many years since we have seen lobster in the MDR.

We just enjoy the appetizers that night followed by my favorite MDR dessert of soufflé  😁

(I've been known to skip the entrée and just have a couple of appetizers before fully enjoying that dessert)

If I’m dining someplace with fabulous desserts, I often choose that first then plan the meal to accommodate. I can see choosing a couple apps or small plates as a good plan before dessert 🍮

Great minds thinking alike here 😊

Why fill up and have no room for dessert?   (DH says he like MDR day 6 for the tasty Meatball appetizer....and he will probably order two of that!)

So what usually happens on a 14-day cruise, are the menus repeated from a 7-night or different all 14 nights?

1 hour ago, Albinroo said: So what usually happens on a 14-day cruise, are the menus repeated from a 7-night or different all 14 nights?

They have 21 menus to choose from, I imagine they'll use 14 of them.

I'm on a 15 day in January...

Read Post #2. Read Post #11.

The Executive Chef on the ship selects the menus for cruises 6+ weeks in advance and provisions are ordered for that specific set of menus. Since supply chain is still somewhat unreliable, the Chef is trying to pick menus where there is a high probability of being able to serve. And they try to alternate menus for those on B2B cruises or long cruises like yours.

Alatraveler1

Love how the recommended wines are never under $15 and allowable on the bev pkg.  I always seem to want the apps more than the entrees!

So basically all who read past menus trying to figure out when to eat in a dining room vs specialty, etc. it's very unpredictable, even from the week before your cruise??

Correct.  I don't fret over what meals are being served in the MDR on a particular evening, I can always take one of my go-to 'classic' meals.

hallux, thanks for the feedback!

We have a 14 day Jade booked in Dec, 1st since Breakaway in '19.  I don't remember if the main menus (14 days) for the cruise are posted after we board? If so and we are interested in switching some of our specialty dinners around (already reserved) we can do so immediately after boarding??

Norwegian Cruise Line Drink Menus and Pricing

Last Updated on January 12, 2024

Norwegian Cruise Line has a fairly diverse selection of drinks. While they don’t have as many themed bars as other cruise lines, they’ve really stepped up their cocktail game on their newer ships. You’ll find bars that specialize in mojitos, whiskey, martinis, and craft beer. Many of their new menus have focused on pre-mixed cocktails such as cocktails on tap or bottled cocktails that are premade in the morning. They’ve partnered with companies like The Liquid Kitchen to make delicious cocktail that can be served quickly.

See a new menu on your ship? Email it to us so we can share with everyone, [email protected]

If you’ve ever been on a Norwegian cruise, you’ve noticed that the bars can be really busy. That’s because many passengers get the “free” Ultimate Beverage Package Package that’s often part of the “Free at Sea” promotion they’re almost always running. With this package, you can enjoy almost any alcoholic (and non-alcoholic beverage) up to $15.

You can learn more about Norwegian’s drink packages and what they include here.

While it’s positioned as free, you still have to pay gratuities, which can be $139 per person for a 7-day cruise. On top of that, fares that include the Free At Sea package are usually more expensive than a base price cabin. We’re not saying it’s not a good deal, especially if you enjoy alcoholic beverages, but do the math both ways if you want to save.

All Norwegian cruise ships now serve Starbucks coffee. Some ships have dedicated Starbucks shops/kiosks, others just serve it at their other bars and restaurants. The menu will vary on each ship and seasonal specialties (ie pumpkin spice) may be available certain times of year.

Starbucks drinks are NOT included in the Standard Open Bar package that comes as part of the Free at Sea promo. You can either upgrade to the Premium Plus beverage package or buy the designated Starbucks package. See all of Norwegian’s drink packages here.

If an indoor bar doesn’t have it dedicated menu, it’ll likely use a variation of the menu seen below. You’ll find this menu at Atrium bars and other bars around the ship that aren’t specialty (ie. not a mojito or champagne bar).

Moderno NCL Menu & Prices

Moderno Brazilian Churrascaria is one of the staples of Norwegian Cruise Line specialty dining restaurants found on nearly every NCL cruise ship. It’s one of our go-to restaurants whenever we have a specialty dining package!

For some cruisers, especially those new to Norwegian Cruise line, the concept of a churrascaria may be unknown, so let us answer the question…

What is a churrascaria?

A churrascaria is a carnivore’s paradise, a meat lover’s dream… a place where vegetarians go to cry. It’s a restaurant where skewered slabs of meat are brought to your table until you’re so full you feel like a stuffed sausage.

The servers, who are essentially meat ninjas, will slice off pieces of juicy, succulent meat with precision and grace, while you sit there salivating like a dog waiting for a treat.

It’s not just any meat, mind you. Its quality cuts of beef, chicken, lamb, and pork, are seasoned to perfection and are usually cooked over an open flame until they reach a state of carnivorous nirvana.

So if you’re looking for a place to get your protein fix, a churrascaria is the spot for you. Just don’t forget to wear your stretchy pants, because you’ll be rolling out of there feeling like a well-fed cow.

Norwegian Cruises Lines does a great job keeping up with what a Brazilian steak house or churrascaria is meant to be and almost never disappoints.

Moderno NCL Salad Bar

How Moderno works on NCL

The cost of dining at Moderno on NCL is a flat $59 cover charge + 20% gratuity OR, you can use a specialty dining package credit. This entitles you to unlimited rounds of meat served tableside, a number of appetizers as well as many trips as you want to the 40+ item salad bar and desserts.

On the larger ships, the Moderno salad bar is extensive including traditional lettuce-based salads, pasta salads, sushi, hearts of palm, cheeses, and an amazing array of other random bites. Some people who aren’t as much meat eaters will still join their partners or friends at Moderno just for the salad bar and desserts.

Once seated, you are free to visit the salad bar and when you’re ready for the meat to arrive, a small card sits on your table where you can flip from red to green, a signal for the meat carvers to visit your table. They wander around constantly with a variety of meats, and if there’s something specific you’re craving, just ask!

It’s as simple as that!

NCL Moderno dress code

As with most other NCL Specialty restaurants , the dress is relatively casual – jeans and a t-shirt are even acceptable. It’s not unusual to see men in dress shorts and polo shirts at Moderno.

Which ships have Moderno Brazillian Steakhouse on board?

Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Dawn,  Norwegian Epic , Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Jade, Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian Star,  Norwegian Sun , and Pride of America

Share this post:

When it comes to enjoying a drink, Norwegian Cruise Line offers cruisers a variety of bars and lounges to make good use of their  drink packages . Not sure where to start? Our Norwegian Encore Bar Guide includes all of the details and bar menus to help you make the difficult decisions, like which bar to visit first!

Norwegian Encore Bar Guide and Menus (2023)

Mixx bar (deck 6).

Located between the Savor and Taste main dining rooms, the Mixx Bar is the ideal location for a pre-dinner or post dinner cocktail. This central location is a great meeting spot to gather up your crew.

Norwegian Encore Bar Guide

The Mixx Bar offers a selection of wines, beers, spirits, and the standard cocktail list found throughout the ship. To make things easy, this menu seperates the wines and spirits into categories so you know which are included in each of the beverage packages.

This venue is open most of the day while cruising and in the evenings on port days.

Standard Bar Menu

Social Comedy and Night Club (Deck 6)

This entertainment venue is home to a variety of activities throughout the cruise, from live comedy shows to the popular silent disco and GLOW party, to dance music until the wee hours of the morning.

No matter your mood, you are bound to find yourself in the Social with a cocktail in hand at some point during your cruise. So, it’s a good thing that there is a complete bar serving up all of the classic beverages on Norwegian Cruise Line.

Of note, the comedy shows do require reservations which can be made upon boarding the ship. They do sell out quickly, so reserve early.

Starbucks (Deck 6)

The Starbucks menu on Norwegian Encore offers all the drink items that you would expect to find at the coffee house on land, including lattes, espressos, drip coffee, and even some pastries and snacks.

Norwegian Encore Restaurant Menus and Dining Guide

These drinks ARE included in the  Premium Plus beverage package (but not the Premium beverage package). However, all of the food is an up-charge regardless of which drink package you have.

Starbucks is open daily from 6 AM to 10 PM for all your caffeine needs.

Starbucks Menu

Atrium Bar (Deck 6)

Located in the center of the ship is the Atrium Bar. This lounge has you covered throughout the day. Need a morning mimosa? Looking for a glass of wine or beer while enjoying one of the many events occurring in the Atrium? Well, the Atrium Bar is perfectly situated so you are never too far away from a drink.

The Atrium Bar opens between 7 to 8 AM and is open until midnight, serving up a variety of drinks from the standard bar menu.

Q Texas Smokehouse (Deck 6)

During the evenings, Q Texas Smokehouse is a specialty restaurant serving up Southern-style barbecue. At night, the venue turns into a kick up your heels good time with live music and parties like Nashville Nights and Lights.

Norwegian Encore Bar Guide

Couple the events with a signature drink menu featuring exclusive cocktails only found in this venue, and Q might just become your new favorite bar on the ship.

Q Texas Smokehouse Bar Menu

Skyline Bar (Deck 7)

This is not your ordinary casino bar. On Norwegian Encore, the Skyline Bar is a must see even if you are not a gambler. The high definition screens that line the back wall depict different skylines from cities around the world, giving you an unforgettable view as you sip your favorite drinks.

Of course, you can always test your luck in the casino while you are here.

The Local Bar and Grill (Deck 7)

Pull up a stool with some friends at the Local Bar and Grill on Norwegian Encore. This centrally located restaurant and bar, which has replaced O’Sheehan’s, has the brews and bites you are craving.

Norwegian Encore Bar Guide

Open 24 hours a day with complimentary food morning, noon, and late night, you can unwind with a pint, catch the latest sporting events, or score a view overlooking all the action in the Atrium.

The Local Bar Menu

A-List Bar (Deck 8)

You don’t have to be famous to be noticed at the A-List Bar. Positioned next to two popular specialty restaurants on the Waterfront, Los Lobos and Cagney’s, the A-List Bar serves up a signature menu of craft drinks.

Named after the former President & CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line, you know you are in exclusive company when you settle in for your pre-dinner cocktail at this venue.

A-List Signature Cocktail Menu

Sugarcane Mojito Bar (Deck 8)

You don’t have to head to Miami or Havana for the ultimate mojito. You have several options to choose from at the Sugarcane Mojito Bar on Norwegian Encore, which is one of my favorite cruise ship bars.

With so many signature drinks to try, one stop is never enough at this popular lounge. Our go-to favorites are the raspberry-guava and jalapeno-cucumber mojitos!

Norwegian Encore Bar Guide

This venue has both indoor and outdoor seating on the Waterfront. In fact, the outdoor bar serves up a small rotating menu of sustainable cocktails similar to those found in the Metropolitan Bar on Norwegian Prima.

Sugarcane Mojito Menu | Sustainable Menu

Malting’s Whiskey Bar (Deck 8)

Whiskey lovers will want to indulge in one of the internationally inspired mixed drinks from the Malting’s Whiskey Bar. Featuring a variety of whiskeys that span the globe, you can enjoy signature cocktails in this warm and inviting venue. There are even cocktails on tap like the Blackberry Bourbon Smash.

This is a great location for a nightcap with some newly made friends. Or perhaps, you might want to join one of the up-charge tasting events.

Maltings Whiskey Signature Cocktail Menu

The Latest Norwegian Cruise Line Free at Sea Promotions and Deals!

The Cellars Wine Bar (Deck 8)

You will always find an expert pour at the wine bar on Norwegian Encore. The Cellars Wine Bar is conveniently located right outside the Onda by Scarpetta Italian restaurant.

Whether you are a wine connoisseur or simply want to enjoy a glass of rosé, this lounge offers cruisers the chance to sample varietals from around the world. The venue also hosts various up-charge pairings and tastings during the cruise.

Norwegian Encore Bar Guide

Cellars featured 132 bottles of wine on our sailing, with 38 selections by the glass. According to the onboard sommelier, all 38 glasses of wine were covered in the Premium Plus beverage package.

Complete Wine Selection (Please note this is a large file)

Cavern Club (Deck 8)

It’s time to “Come Together” at the Cavern Club on Norwegian Encore. Inspired by the Liverpool landmark, this venue is home to a Beatles tribute band and other rock performances. This is the spot where music lovers congregate to rock out while enjoying classic cocktails, beer, and wine.

If you are looking for a seat, you better get there early as the Cavern Club tends to be standing room only for most performances.

The District Brew House (Deck 8)

Craft beer drinkers can rejoice. The District Brew House is your spot for some brews and live music, featuring the most extensive beer selection at sea that we’ve seen. Offering over two dozen draft selections, 50 additional bottled options, and some exclusive cocktails, the menu at the District Brew House is as craft as you will find at any cruise ship pub.

Norwegian Encore Bar Guide

In the evenings, the venue comes to life as Norwegian Encore’s piano bar with live entertainment. There’s also plenty of seating options and great ocean views.

District Brew House Signature Menu

Observation Lounge (Deck 15)

Along with two-story, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the bow of the ship, the Observation Lounge on Norwegian Encore has a bar serving up your favorite drinks. Whether you are taking in the scenery, enjoying some light music, or simply just relaxing, the Observation Lounge is the place to be for uninhibited views.

This space features comfy furniture and even light snacks throughout the day. The bar is also open a majority of the day from around 8 AM to midnight.

Waves Bar (Deck 16)

Grab a frozen drink, a cocktail, or a beer at the pool deck’s most popular spot. There is no better way to enjoy the Caribbean sun than with one of your favorite beverages from the outdoor bar menu. This bar is even open in Alaska, so be sure to grab a drink in time for the sail away party.

Frequent freestyle cruisers will be familiar with some of these signature drinks, such as the Mango Meltdown and the Bushwhacker. What’s your pool drink of choice?

Pool Bar Menu

Surf Bar (Deck 16)

If you don’t want to venture too far from the pool, the Surf Bar is also just steps away. Nestled next to some outdoor seating for the Garden Cafe, this bar will be one of your daytime favorites while enjoying the great outdoors.

The Surf Bar also serves a selection of popular beer, frozen drinks, and other beverages from the outdoor bar menu.

Norwegian Encore Cruise Ship Scorecard Review

Vibe Beach Club (Deck 19)

This 2-story private retreat offers guests a full service bar along with hot tubs, a water feature, loungers, light snacks, and amazing ocean views. A limited number of passes to this secluded area can be purchased for the duration of your cruise.

Those choosing to upgrade their experience can enjoy champagne, cocktails, and Caribbean breezes or glacier views in exclusive company.

No matter which Norwegian Encore bar you choose, you are bound to find great drinks. With so many diverse bar options and an unlimited drink package, why not try them all!

11 cruise ship excursions to avoid

Erica Silverstein

You have eight to 10 hours in port, and you might never return to that destination. How do you make sure you don't blow your chance at an amazing vacation day by choosing the wrong cruise ship shore excursion ?

It's a daunting task for sure, but some close reading and a little bit of thought can steer you away from making bad tour choices. Here are some general tips to follow:

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Tip 1: Be honest with yourself about the personalities and abilities of your travel party and what they actually will be happy doing.

Tip 2: Don't feel obligated to take a ship-sponsored tour. Independent options are often better.

Tip 3: Read the following list of types of cruise ship shore excursions that aren't worth your time, money and the risk of mid-tour meltdowns.

Panoramic sightseeing tours

"Panoramic" is cruise speak for "you will view key attractions exclusively from inside a bus." You might want to see that historic cathedral interior or step outside to enjoy the scenic overlook. However, if you prefer to spend more time on the ground than inside a coach, avoid any tour with "panoramic sightseeing" or "island tour" or "[destination] by coach" in the title.

Most shore excursion descriptions will tell you how much time you'll spend at each attraction, so look for those clues to ensure you're actually experiencing the sites you want to see.

Note that you should ignore this advice if you have mobility challenges; these sightseeing tours are a great way to see the top sights without worrying about navigating cobblestone streets or stairs.

Tourist trains and trams

norwegian cruise line menus 2023

Unless you're cruising with Thomas the Tank Engine-obsessed toddlers, please maintain your dignity and avoid the tourist trains and trams that chug around cruise destinations. I'm not talking about actual scenic railways; I'm talking about the cutesy painted mini locomotives pulling open-air carriages through the streets of places like the Royal Dockyard in Bermuda, Belize City and Piraeus, Greece.

Frankly, it's embarrassing and tags you as a clueless American tourist. Hop-on, hop-off coach tours are much preferred for easy transportation between key tourist attractions.

Related: Avoid these 10 mistakes when booking cruise shore excursions

All-day marathon tours

I'd love to see the Yukon. However, I have no interest in taking a seven-hour tour that combines a trip on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway into British Columbia, a bus ride to the border of the Yukon and then another bus ride down the Klondike Highway back to Skagway. It's too much sitting.

I have done the marathon tour from Livorno to Florence in Italy, and I can assure you that I fell asleep exhausted on the coach ride back every time.

All-day marathon tours might be the only way to cram everything you want to see into your one day in port. However, the breakneck pace might not be worth the sore feet, missed ship dinner and information overload. Worse, sometimes these long tours involve more driving than sightseeing.

For example, Royal Caribbean 's "Grand Tour of Florence and Pisa" features two hours of independent exploration in Florence and an hour in Pisa. However, the tour takes 10 hours. At least three of those hours will be in transit, with more time spent waiting for tardy tourists and walking from bus parking to the actual attractions.

You might be better off focusing your time on one area during your cruise. If you want to see more, return for a land visit at a more relaxed pace another year.

Related: 5 great cruise vacations that combine a cruise with a train trip

Short tours with a long transit

In a similar vein, and with a nod to the Cake song, any tour that spends more time in transit than at the actual tour destination might not be the best use of your time. If you're going to schlep out somewhere on a daytrip, you want it to be worth your while. Otherwise, you might get more value from staying closer to port to sightsee, shop and dine on your own.

Museum tours

norwegian cruise line menus 2023

Do you take tours of museums when you're home? No. You simply go to the museum, perhaps pick up an audio guide and wander through on your own. So why would you take a tour of a museum on a cruise?

Unless you need a tour for transportation, skip the overpriced shore excursion and head to that museum of interest on your own. You can spend as much or as little time in the rooms that interest you, and you can skip around large groups crowding a particular artwork or display. You also don't have to reduce yourself to meekly following behind a sign-toting guide. You can usually find English-language audio tours if you need more information or can't read the display signs.

Beach breaks

Do you want to go to the beach? Hail a cab and go to the beach. The locals know that cruisers want to go to the beach, and you'll find shuttles, trams and vans all waiting to take you to the beach and back. You don't need a tour to get there.

Similarly, if you want to spend the day at a local resort, using its beach, pool and facilities, you can often find cheaper options if you book through the property directly rather than via your ship's shore excursion desk. Just check to see if transportation is included and factor in the price of a taxi if it's not.

Shopping tours

The same mindset applies to shopping tours. If you want to go shopping, all you need to do is walk off the cruise ship. If there aren't a bevy of souvenir and jewelry shops right at the port, you'll be able to find plenty in town. It's rare that a shopping tour is going to take you to special or local secret galleries where you can find amazing art or spectacular buys.

Are you a shopaholic or a connoisseur of a particular product? Your best bet is to do your research in advance, find the shops or galleries you wish to visit and take a taxi or hire a private guide to take you to the merchants you most want to see.

Booze cruises

I'm a huge fan of catamaran sails — getting out on the water to feel the breeze in your hair and watch the scenery go by, maybe getting in some snorkeling or beach time. However, I avoid any shore tour labeled "party cruise" or "open bar" like the plague.

If you're choosing a tour because you want to snorkel or see the sunset over the water, know that someone on the boat is bound to over-imbibe, become belligerent or end up barfing because they don't know when to stop with the free rum punch.

Looking for a party? Have at it. Just be careful because those fruity drinks are stronger than they taste; the heat, alcohol and sugar combination makes for a crazy time with some consequences. Do you really want to miss the next port or ship nightlife because you're hungover from your tour?

Glass-bottom boat rides

norwegian cruise line menus 2023

I admit — I went on an amazing semi-submersible ride in Maui, where we actually saw incredible sea life. All of the other glass-bottom boat rides and "submarine" tours I've done have been murky and unimpressive.

Unless you're claustrophobic, it can't hurt to try, but the chances of you having an amazing underwater experience on one of these tours are low. If you cannot snorkel or scuba dive, you might prefer to try your luck with a land-based tour.

Tours involving maltreated animals

You might have a life goal to swim with dolphins or ride on an elephant, but please do not support any organization that does not treat their animals well. If you can't verify that the animals are getting superb care, avoid shore excursions that have you interacting with captive wild animals.

Instead, choose tours that allow you to see animals in the wild, such as whale-watching tours in Hawaii , bear-viewing excursions in Alaska, or hikes or boat rides through the jungle where you can spot birds or monkeys in the trees.

Any tour you're not fit for

Haven't gotten on a bike in years? Now is not the time to book that cycling tour through Valencia, Spain, or go speeding 25 miles down the Haleakala volcano in Maui. Have mobility issues? A walking tour through a cobblestoned old town is not for you. Afraid of heights? For the love of God, do not zip line.

The person you wish you were (or the strapping youth you once were) will not be taking the tour — only you in your current level of health and fitness. Avoid any shore excursions you can't handle, and you will be much happier with your time spent in port rather than at the local hospital.
