Famous trains to be withdawn in October Modern Railways and CrossCountry are to run a High Speed Train from Leeds to Swanage on 26 September to mark the operator’s impending withdrawal of the trains. The trip follows the success of last year’s visit to the Severn Valley Railway. Pick-up points en route will enable passengers to join the train for a ride on the picturesque Swanage Railway – a destination seldom visited by HSTs in recent years on charters. { "lightbox_close": "Close", "lightbox_next": "Next", "lightbox_previous": "Previous", "lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Modern Railways Modern Railways Editor Philip Sherratt said: ‘We were thrilled by the success of last year’s train with CrossCountry and other rail industry partners, so to say farewell to these much-loved trains on inter-city services in England, we wanted to take one somewhere very special. ‘What could be better than a trip to the seaside in what will hopefully be a beautiful Indian Summer? We’ll be announcing further details as soon as we have them, but please keep checking the website for information as tickets are likely to sell fast when they go on sale.’ Final timings are still to be confirmed, after which tickets will go on sale: click the link to check the page for further information as it is updated. Assuming this is a day trip you are looking at a long one, a minimum of 7hrs each way I would guess.

This looks really cool! I’ve never ridden on an HST so would love to seize the opportunity if I can get the day off work. Just hoping it will call at Bournemouth or Poole en-route to Swanage and back.

Hoping this comes through Bristol, it’s always been part of the XC network, but have a feeling that might be a tricky connection to Swanage and it’ll probably go through Reading or something.

This looks like a really rather good day out, I wonder if there'll be any pickup points in the south and what the fairs will be like

This looks like a really good day out, I'm not normally one for rail tours, but this I'm interested in!

Will it be possible to do a short journey, say Wareham or Poole to Bournemouth or Reading on this tour? Bit odd that it isn’t calling at Southampton Central though.

Rough guesses on ticket prices?

Are priv rate fares likely to be available? EDIT: The above is sarcasm.

Good to have a tour picking up in Sheffield and going somewhere a bit different for us Northerners, although I’m already booked on a tour on the 20th and 23rd so another long one might be a bit of a stretch.

Early start and late finish from Leeds or Wakefield, but might try and get tickets for this when they go on sale. Hopefully I'll have my own transport by then so won't have to faff about with taxis.

Not really odd that it's not calling at Soton as it's too far west for a pick-up point and of limited interest as a set-down, compared to somewhere like Bournemouth for a day out. Click to expand...

CrossCountry HSTs: Farewell Pack

CrossCountry HSTs: Farewell Pack

Hi, and thanks for downloading! This is my 6th “reskin” uploaded to ATS. I put that in quotation marks because it’s sort of half-reskin, half-patch. This represents CrossCountry’s four Class 43 HST power cars which have been either repainted or named to celebrate the end of their service with CrossCountry. This pack replaces my older “40th Anniversary Pack”, which contained 43184 and 43366 only.

FEATURES: – 43007 (ex 43207) in BR InterCity 125 livery – 43008 (ex 43208) in BR InterCity Swallow livery – 43184 (ex 43384) in BR InterCity Executive livery – 43366 with it’s “HST 40” nameplate – 12 Quick Drive consists

REQUIREMENTS: Payware: Kuju European Loco/Assets Pack (https://store.steampowered.com/app/208300/Train_Simulator_European_Loco__Asset_Pack) AP Class 43 (MTU)/Mk3 Enhancement Pack (https://www.armstrongpowerhouse.com/enhancements/locomotive/class_43_mtu-mk3_enhancement_pack)

Freeware: MJW Class 43 Revamp Pack (https://www.major.wales/revamp-packs/class-43)

KNOWN ISSUES: – 43184 has a small texturing bug – the number appears flipped where it shouldn’t be on one side. I did a poll in the ATS Facebook group asking whether people were bothered about this and the general response was no, so I hope you don’t mind too much. – The text faces inwards instead of outwards on 43366’s nameplate. It’s very hard to notice unless you look very closely.

CHANGELOG: V1.0: Initial release

CREDITS: A huge thank you to andrewb for modelling 43366’s nameplate.

I hope you enjoy this pack! The GWRailfan and Andrew 🙂

Aerosmith’s farewell tour will now hit Xcel Energy Center in January

R ock and Roll Hall of Famers Aerosmith have announced dates for their rescheduled farewell tour, which will now hit St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center on Jan. 22.

All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled shows. Ticketholders will receive more information via email. Additional tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through Ticketmaster . Neither the promoter nor the venue announced prices. The Black Crowes will open.

The tour kicked off in September 2023 and was scheduled to stop in St. Paul on Nov. 13. But Steven Tyler first hurt his vocal cords on the third night of the tour, a Sept. 9 concert in New York, which led to the group postponing a half dozen dates. After Tyler took an extended break from singing, his doctors found further damage.

“Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought,” read a post on the band’s Facebook page . “His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care. He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential.”

Formed in Boston in 1970, Aerosmith scored a series of hits that remain radio staples to this day, including “Sweet Emotion,” “Walk This Way” and “Dream On.” But by the 1980s, drug addiction and clashing personalities nearly led to the end of the group. After several members went through rehab, Aerosmith made a stunning comeback, becoming MTV darlings and selling even more records the second time around.

Over the past dozen years, Aerosmith’s future has been shaky. Flamboyant frontman Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry have publicly feuded over Tyler’s stint as a judge on “American Idol” and his failed attempt to launch a solo country career with 2016’s “We’re All Somebody from Somewhere.”

In 2015, band members began publicly discussing a final tour and a 2017 European outing was billed as their farewell. More recently, Aerosmith played an extended Las Vegas residency as well as the first Twin Cities Summer Jam in 2019.

Drummer Joey Kramer, who came up with the band’s name, will not be part of the tour. In a news release, the group said: “While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health. Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.” Kramer’s second wife Linda died in June 2022.

Aerosmith Announce Rescheduled Dates for Peace Out Farewell Tour

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Aerosmith have announced rescheduled dates for their Peace Out farewell tour, which was suspended in September 2023 because Steven Tyler fractured his larynx. This new leg kicks off Sept. 20 in Pittsburgh and wraps up Feb. 26 in Buffalo, New York. They’ll once again be joined by the Black Crowes.

The band announced plans to wrap their career with one final tour in May 2023, but they played a mere three shows before Tyler severely hurt his larynx. “I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers, and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world,” he wrote in a message to fans. “I promise we will be back as soon as we can!”

Tickets on sale for our HST railtour!

cross country hst farewell tour

Tickets are now on sale for the one-off anniversary railtour organised by Modern Railways in partnership with CrossCountry using one of the operator’s HSTs.

The trip on Tuesday 27 September will run from Leeds to the Severn Valley Railway, including the unusual chance to enjoy a return trip on the preserved line on this iconic train. The railtour celebrates twin anniversaries: the 60th anniversary of Modern Railways magazine and 40 years of HSTs on CrossCountry’s North East to South West route.

You will be able to join the railtour at Leeds, Wakefield Westgate, Doncaster, Sheffield, Derby or Birmingham New Street. Tickets are priced at £100 for standard class travel regardless of your boarding point. For full details of timings visit our website at www.modernrailways.com/railtour , although note that these may be subject to change due to train pathing requirements. There is also an exclusive competition to win two First Class tickets, which are not on general sale.

As well as the unusual trip there will be numerous attractions to enjoy as part of the day’s celebrations. These will include two naming events on arrival at Kidderminster – the naming of a CrossCountry power car to mark the HST anniversary and the rededication of GB Railfreight loco No 66745, which was named 10 years ago as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations. The Severn Valley Railway will also be providing depot tours at Kidderminster (advance booking will be required for this).

The trip will be a fundraiser supporting the valuable work of the Railway Benefit Fund, which supports current and former railway employees facing hardship through financial assistance and practical help and advice.

Modern Railways Editor Philip Sherratt said: ‘We are excited about what promises to be a fantastic day of celebration, with lots of exciting activities planned as part of our railtour. We are hugely grateful to our partners at CrossCountry and the Severn Valley Railway for their fantastic support in making this trip possible, and we are looking forward to a great fundraising effort to support the valuable work of RBF.’

CrossCountry Managing Director Tom Joyner said: ‘We are really excited about what promises to be a fantastic collaborative fundraising event for the Railway Benefit Fund and are grateful to our hosts at Severn Valley Railway for supporting this initiative so enthusiastically. Heritage lines have struggled during the pandemic – they are working railways which are major tourist attractions and therefore provide valuable support for the local economies of the regions they serve. CrossCountry is keen to support our Heritage Rail partners where we can.

‘Railways should also be fun and after a difficult couple of years for our railway and for society as a whole, we hope this event will help rekindle the love for travelling by train and bring people together to celebrate, looking forward to the opportunities that are ahead of us.’

For more details and to secure your ticket visit www. modernrailways.com/railtour

The celebration of the 60th anniversary of Modern Railways will conclude later in the year with the two-day Modern Railways EXPO show at Milton Keynes on 22-23 November. For more details see www.modernrailways.com/expo
