“We are truly excited to christen World Dream in Hong Kong – and to be the first-ever cruise ship to have this honour in a city that holds such significance to Genting Hong Kong and Dream Cruises. As the pioneer of the Asian cruise industry 24 years ago, Genting Hong Kong developed the Asian cruise industry with the founding of Star Cruises, with its headquarters in Hong Kong,” said Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Genting Hong Kong.

“Now, with Genting Dreams’ arrival in the Pearl River Delta a year ago, she has delivered over 300,000 international passenger trips from across the region. During the event, Tan Sri Lim also expressed the importance of Hong Kong to both Genting Hong Kong and the overall cruise industry in the Asia Pacific and reiterated the company’s commitment to showcase the city and grow the Pearl River Delta region into a world-class, cruise destination hub. He noted that, as a well-developed port city, Hong Kong is strategically located to promote China’s “Greater Bay Area” initiative to link the major cities in the Pearl River Delta into an integrated economic and business centre.

During the event, Guest of Honour, The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Honourable Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, and Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Genting Hong Kong delivered their messages to the audience followed by the customary exchange of gifts and souvenirs to the various VIPs in attendance. Unique in the cruise industry, Dream Cruises was created to bring guests’ dreams to life through transformational and inspirational voyages at sea. With the well-received launch of Genting Dream last year, Dream Cruises has been able to build on the success of the inaugural ship to fine tune World Dream to better cater to the needs of affluent, independently-minded and confident Asian travellers. Along with serving the regional high-end market, World Dream will also appeal to multi-generational families with all inclusive activities, the finest Asian and international dining and unforgettable entertainment – all delivered with service that is Asian at heart and international in spirit.

The well-received Dream Palace “ship within a ship” concept on board World Dream will offer more suites and all-inclusive options and privileges. Several new restaurant concepts along with new entertainment options that combine both high tech and high touch experiences will be announced shortly. The recognized Crystal Life Spa brand will operate both the Western Spa and Asian Spa on World Dream.

Complimenting World Dream’s on board attractions, diverse itineraries featuring new, authentic destination experiences will take guests on tropical and cultural journeys in Asia. Specially designed voyages taking in sun-drenched, popular destinations for the winter feature 6-day/5-night cruises to Manila and Boracay in the Philippines alternating with 6-day/5-night journeys to Ho Chi Minh and Nha Trang in Vietnam.

As well, World Dream will be offering Warm Weekend Vacations from Hong Kong for the ultimate stay-cation where passengers can bask outside in the temperate climate of the South China Sea and surround themselves with the warmth and service of the attentive staff inside.

Genting Hong Kong's World Dream Sold To Unnamed Party, Renamed Manara

The World Dream is the last of Genting Hong Kong’s cruise ships to find a new owner.

world dream cruise hong kong

Former Genting Hong Kong cruise ship World Dream has found a new owner, according to information made available by the Singapore Sheriff. The 150,695 Gross-Ton Cruise Ship has been marked as “sold” by the High Court of Singapore with effect from 24 February 2023, after a sealed-bid auction to sell off the ship concluded in December 2022. The cruise ship reportedly “drew little interest” at auction.

UPDATE: GENTING HONG KONG'S WORLD DREAM HAS BEEN SOLD AND RENAMED LEARN MORE AT THE... Posted by Singapore Cruise Society on  Tuesday, 28 February 2023

Formerly World Dream , Now Re-Named Manara

world dream cruise hong kong

World Dream , now renamed Manara . PHOTO: FACEBOOK/HOP VUONG

According to the port authority, IMO Number 9733117, which belongs to World Dream , now belongs to a vessel named Manara , registered in Majuro, Marshall Islands. A ship’s IMO Number does not change throughout a ship’s lifetime, which can only suggest that World Dream has been renamed and re-registered .

And this tip-off is matched with photo confirmation, as a photo sent to Singapore Cruise Society shows the name “MANARA” painted on the hull of World Dream , with the welded-on letters making up “World Dream” painted over.

But Who Is This Mystery Buyer?

As of yet, no party has officially claimed ownership of the Manara or World Dream . However, sources have informed Seatrade Cruise News that Cruise Saudi is allegedly behind the purchase. If that’s true, then the name Manara makes sense, as it translates to “ Source of Light ” in Arabic.

And according to their website, Cruise Saudi is “a 100% Public Investment Fund-owned business based in Jeddah” that “works hand in hand with ministries and regulatory authorities to build the offshore and onshore cruise ecosystem with the aim of positioning Saudi as a premier global cruise destination.”

World Dream Set for First-Ever Hong Kong Christening

  • November 15, 2017

world dream cruise hong kong

The World Dream will make history as the first-ever cruise ship to be christened in Hong Kong, as a ceremony is set for Friday, Nov. 17.

Dream Cruises launched its “#TogetherWeBuildDreams” campaign, which engaged cruise enthusiasts from around the world to build a large-scale replica of World Dream, in attempt to break the current world record of the largest Lego ship. After two months of effort, the giant ship model, collectively built by over 1,000 cruising guests, members of the public, as well as Mr. Andy Hung and Legend Creative, the first Lego Certified Professional in Greater China region and his team, was officially unveiled at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal today.

The attempt was declared successful upon onsite adjudication and the official Guinness World Records certificate presentation, the company said.

The unveiling of the World Dream ship model also served as the kick-off for the festivities surrounding World Dream’s inaugural and christening in Hong Kong.

Kent Zhu, President of Genting Cruise Lines said: “It is with great excitement with which we anticipate the inaugural launch of World Dream and make history as the first-ever cruise ship to be christened in Hong Kong. Today we celebrate the first milestone achieved by World Dream – the successful breaking of a Guinness World Record, an honor that we share with cruise enthusiasts from around the world who joined us as we turned this dream into reality.”

The replica of World Dream was constructed from over 2.5 million Lego blocks, the ship model weighs over 2,800kg, measures 8.44m in length, 1.33m in width and 1.53m in height.

The ship model will be on public display at Hall B, 2/F of Kai Tak Cruise Terminal from Nov. 19 onwards; an open-day event will be held on the first day of public display, where members of the public can have a close-up view of the giant ship model.

Aroya Manara Review

Review of aroya manara.

The 2017-built (as World Dream) cruise ship Aroya Manara is currently owned by World Dream Company Inc (subsidiary of Saudi Arabia's PIF/Public Investment Fund) and operated by Cruise Saudi (PIF-owned travel brand and cruise agency/2021-founded) via the new travel brand Aroya Cruises (2023-established).

MS World Dream was the second vessel of Genting Cruise Lines' premium brand Dream Cruises (Genting Hong Kong/GHK-owned subsidiary company launched in November 2015).

One of the world's largest passenger liners , the 151300-GT-ton liner debuted in November 2017. The fleetmates were Genting Dream (2016-built sistership), Resorts World One (1999-built as SuperStar Virgo, named "Explorer Dream" following the transfer from Star Cruises in 2019) and the larger Global Dream/Disney Adventure (2020/GLOBAL-class liner/sold to DCL-Disney in 2022).

The Aroya Manara vessel (IMO number 9733117) is currently France- flagged (MMSI 538010484) and registered in Majuro / Marshall Islands . World Dream was Bahamas-flagged (MMSI 311000318) and registered in Nassau .

Since February 2023, the ship is operated by Cruise Saudi (2023-founded, Jeddah -based tourism business) which is a fully-owned subsidiary of PIF (Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund/1971-founded). Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund is currently ranked one of the world's largest by AUM/assets under management (~USD 620 billion / GBP 514B). The new shipowner is PIF's subsidiary World Dream Company Inc (2023-founded). GHK owned the ship via its subsidiary World Dream Ltd.

History - construction and ownership

GHK was a global entertainment, hospitality, and leisure company based in Hong Kong . For its Dream Cruises brand, GHK ordered two custom-built vessels to serve the Asian market, specifically China. GHK's other two cruise market segments were served by separate brands - Crystal Cruises (ultra-luxury) and Star Cruises (contemporary).

On October 7, 2013, was announced that GHK signed a shipbuilding agreement with Meyer Werft ( Papenburg Germany ) for the construction of a new vessel for Star Cruises, scheduled for delivery in 2016-Q4. On February 10, 2014, was ordered a sistership, with scheduled delivery in 2017-Q4. Both units were with volume 150,000 GT-tons and passenger capacity 3364 (double occupancy).

However, later GHK decided to create a new brand/subsidiary (Dream Cruises) and both newbuilds were redirected to Dream Cruises. MS Genting World (later renamed to "MS World Dream") had its steel-cutting ceremony held on February 9, 2015. MS World Dream's steel-cutting ceremony was in February 2016, at Meyer Werft Papenburg shipyard. The ship was floated out on August 26th and delivered on October 26, 2017. This was the 44th cruiser built by Meyer Werft. The ceremony was attended by Tim Meyer (Meyer Werft's Managing Director).

Aroya Manara cruise ship (World Dream)

On December 1, 2022, was announced that the 5-year-old MS World Dream was set for auction - approx 9 months after the vessel was arrested by GHK's creditor KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH.

Singapore's High Court ordered World Dream to be sold through a sealed tender auction, with bids due on December 21st. World Dream's value at the time was estimated at US$654 million. For comparison, the sistership Genting Dream was sold in 2020 to a consortium of Chinese banks for US$700 million.

It was speculated that Resorts World Cruises (new brand established in May 2022 by Lim Kok Thay/former GHK majority shareholder) would be actively bidding for the vessel.

Singapore High Court-appointed surveyors conducted a detailed vessel inspection in November 2022 and found it to be in very good condition despite the prolonged lay-up/anchorage off Singapore (since April 3, 2022). The survey report concluded that the ship has been well maintained by the 127 crew onboard.

Singapore Sheriff's Office listed the ship as sold on February 24, 2023, or around two months after the auction was held.

On March 1, 2023, was announced that the vessel was purchased/acquired by Cruise Saudi, at sales price USD 330 million (~EUR 310M / ~GBP 275M). The news was confirmed by Lars Clasen (Cruise Saudi's CEO). On March 1st was also changed the vessel's name (to "MS Manara"/in Arabic meaning "source of light") as well as the ship management company serving it - from V.Ships Leisure (part of V.Group Holdings Ltd/1984-founded, Monaco -registered, London -headquartered) to Columbia Cruise Services GmbH & Co KG (2014-founded, Hamburg -based).

Saudi Arabia's first cruise line brand - Aroya Cruises - was officially launched on June 14, 2023. Aroya's operations are currently managed by Ghassan Khan (Cruise Saudi's CSO/Chief Strategy Officer). In July 2023, Aroya signed a 3-year Gold Sponsorship deal with Al Nassr Football Club (Riyadh-based FC).

Cruise Saudi's Manara is similar in design to NCL 's ships Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway , while as GT tonnage/volume it equals Norwegian Epic .

Aroya Manara cruise ship (World Dream)

The boat has 18 decks , of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 10 with cabins.

Cruise Saudi Manara refurbishments 2023-2024 review

Cruise Saudi’s first drydocking project for MS Manara was scheduled for 2023 (June-August) to be conducted at Bredo Dry Docks GmbH's yard in Bremerhaven Germany . The relocation voyage via the Suez Canal (RepositionCruises.com) included anchorage stops (for bunkering) off Valletta Harbour (Malta) .

Details on the extensive refit and refurbishment works were announced in March 2024. The drydocking project included the complete renovations of all public areas and the passenger staterooms. The Casino Lounge (purpose-built larger than average to serve Asian customers) was replaced with shopping arcades. A second drydocking is planned to be conducted in Holland (at DSR/Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam ) in June 2024.

By this project, MJM Group will upgrade all staterooms and will supervise the construction of new onboard venues (dining, shopping, wellness and relaxation), as well as various steelworks, upgrades to the ship's electrical and mechanical systems, and the installation of furniture, finishes, ceiling fixtures. The ship's Singapore homeporting offers China fly-cruise deals for the top-luxury Asian travel market.

World cruise: 60 countries, 8 world wonders and 274 nights on board

Madison Schwetje, a popular TikTok influencer known as @madisonworldtraveler , is living the dream on Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise . The 274-night journey, which embarked Dec. 10, will take Schwetje and her family to more than 60 countries and eight world wonders.

The influencer has been balancing her life as a full-time student at the University of Central Florida alongside her travel adventures. “This trip is already such an amazing experience,” she said, speaking to Elite Daily .

Her daily vlogs sharing unique experiences — from visiting Hong Kong Disneyland to shopping hauls in Chile — have gathered millions of views on social media.

On a typical day at sea, Schwetje’s morning begins at 6, catching the sunrise from Deck 12 before her workout routine. Lunch is a treasured time spent with family and with friends who have become like a second family.

“A special moment we all shared was when we were in Rio for New Year’s Eve, and we got to experience ringing in 2024 together,” she recounted.

In the afternoons, the health sciences major, who aspires to be a travel nurse, finds a quiet spot to focus on her studies. Evenings are marked by themed dinners and Broadway-style shows in the theater, which are the highlights for Schwetje and her family.

You might be wondering by now how much it costs to enjoy the Ultimate World Cruise. Well, according to the cruise line’s website, the price ranges from $54,000 to $117,000 per person. That’s quite reasonable for access to incredible global vistas, including Norway’s majestic fjords, Antarctic glaciers and adventures in French Polynesia.

However, there are currently no dates listed for booking your own adventure. Check out royalcaribbean.com for other options.

7 amazing cruise itineraries to book in 2024

I don't know about you, but each year, as the weather turns cold, I start daydreaming about getting out of Dodge — or, in my case, Pennsylvania. My mind wanders to cruises that will take me to places where the temperature is warmer, but I also take a hard look at the (exceptionally lengthy) list of places I'm longing to visit.

After digging through what's new for 2024, I've come up with a shortlist of sailings that I think are noteworthy. They range from a standard Bahamas voyage with a new twist and an extended Alaska sailing that includes a foray across the Arctic Circle to more far-flung destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Dream on, dear reader, and add these to your list of 2024 cruise itineraries.

Note: All prices listed are per person, based on double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Fares do not include taxes and fees.

Seabourn's 'Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas' itinerary

Last year, the Australia and New Zealand cruise region gained momentum following the pandemic shutdown. In 2024, the hardly populated Australia region of The Kimberley is gaining popularity. Luxury cruise brand Seabourn will be offering a series of six 10-night voyages between Broome and Darwin on expedition vessel Seabourn Pursuit during what will be early winter in the southern hemisphere.

The line's " Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas " will take passengers to places along the coast few passengers are able to visit to see the stunning teal waters and horizontal waterfalls of Talbot Bay, sample wines in the Hunter River Region and check out nature preserves in Wyndham.

Details: The first sailing, from Darwin to Broome, embarks on June 12. The final voyage, from Broome to Darwin, departs on Aug. 1. Prices start from $6,134 per person ($613 per person, per night), double occupancy, for the July 2 cruise. All accommodations are suites with balconies.

Celebrity's 'Best of Japan' and 'Vietnam and Thailand' cruises

The number of voyages in Asia was trending upward notably prior to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought cruising in the region to an extended halt. And it's once again on the rise. Following that curve, Celebrity Cruises will be running new 11- to 13-night Asia sailings in 2024 on two ships — Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Solstice — that bring stops in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand.

What's notable about the offerings is that they will aim to immerse passengers further into the destinations by including overnights in a total of 11 ports across all itineraries. That means more time to explore Hanoi's Old Quarter as the sun sets, indulge in nighttime gastronomy in Hong Kong, visit one of Bangkok's many markets, or learn why Osaka is known for street food.

Details: Celebrity Millennium's " Best of Japan " cruises run from early mid-March to early October. At press time, the least expensive fares — for a 12-night sailing — start from $1,330 per person ($111 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. It travels round-trip from Yokohama and visits Hiroshima, Pusan and other ports, including Osaka, where the ship will overnight.

Celerbrity Solstice's Vietnam and Thailand cruises kick off in mid-January and run through March. The ship will resume them again in the fall of 2024 and run through the winter season. Prices start from $1,255 per person ($105 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. The voyage sails from Hong Kong to Singapore with stops in Da Nang and Koh Samui, plus overnights in Hanoi and Bangkok.

SeaDream's 'Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles' sailing

Here's one to put on your radar if you're looking to book — but not necessarily sail — in 2024. It's a new Mediterranean itinerary that doesn't start up for nearly three more years, in 2026. The SeaDream routing brings stops at seven ports that are rarely visited by cruise passengers. During the seven-night voyages, there will be calls at Primosten, Croatia; Cesme, Turkey; Cetubal, Portugal; and Kythira, Kythnos, Syvota and Tinos, Greece — making these sailings unique and well-suited to anyone who loves the region but who's looking for new places to experience.

SeaDream's small ships, each of which carries just 112 people, are able to reach locales about which passengers on megaships can only fantasize. Couple that with excellent service, and you'll be visiting the Our Lady of Loretto statue in Primosten, touring the Cesme Castle and lounging on stunning Greek beaches from a home base that puts you squarely in the lap of luxury.

Details: An itinerary that includes three of the seven new ports is the 11-night " Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles " itinerary from Venice, Italy, to Athens, Greece, departing on Aug. 8, 2026, on SeaDream I. Prices start from $10,399 per person ($946 per person, per night) for a room with a porthole view.

Holland America's 'Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice' Legendary Voyage

Alaska is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys the vastness of untouched wilderness, the wildlife it houses and adventurous pursuits it provides. (Think whale-watching, hiking on glaciers and salmon fishing.) However, Holland America 's Westerdam is hosting a 28-day sailing that's anything but your standard cruise to the Last Frontier .

Passengers will visit the usual Alaska ports, such as Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau, with scenic sailing through the Inside Passage, past Hubbard Glacier and to Glacier Bay. But they can also expect less-common stops at places like Nome, Kodiak, Anchorage (with an overnight) and Homer. Plus, about halfway through, this cruise crosses the Arctic Circle — a rite of passage for many travelers.

Details: Holland America's 28-day " Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice " cruise — one of the line's Legendary Voyages, known for longer durations and a unique mix of port calls — sails June 9-July 7, round-trip from Seattle. Inside cabins start from $5,299 per person (about $189 per person, per night).

Silversea's summertime French Polynesia cruises

Another consideration for future travel is Silversea Cruises , which is featuring its first full-summer season in French Polynesia in 2026. Silver Whisper will offer two immersive itineraries, including overnights, across 17 voyages between April and September.

Passengers can choose seven-night sailings that visit idyllic favorites like Tahiti, Moorea and Huahine and which also include overnights in Bora Bora. Or, they can cruise for twice as long by selecting a 14-night voyage that calls on the same ports as the seven-night option but with Fakarava, Nuku Hiva, Fatu Hiva, Atuona and Tahuata added.

Details: Silversea's seven-night voyages begin April 6, 2026, and start from $5,650 per person ($808 per person, per night) for an ocean-view cabin.

The line's 14-night sailings start on April 20, 2026. Fares start from $10,450 per person ($747 per person, per night) for ocean-view accommodations.

New Bermuda voyages on Carnival Venezia

Beginning in May of 2025, Carnival Cruise Line 's Carnival Venezia will sail a series of eight four- and five-night cruises to Bermuda from New York. These itineraries are notable because the line is aiming to increase its presence there but also because the style of the ship is new to even most of the brand's most dedicated passengers.

In 2022, Carnival announced its Costa by Carnival concept after revealing it would be transferring ships from its Costa sister brand to the Carnival fleet. Now, when travelers visit the Gibb's Hill Lighthouse or check out the island's renowned pink-sand beaches during a sailing on Carnival Venezia, they can enjoy both the Italian style of the ship and Carnival's fun atmosphere and high service standards.

Details: Voyages kick off on May 22, 2025. Prices start from $429 per person ($108 per person, per night) for an inside cabin on a four-night cruise departing Sept. 18, 2025.

Disney Cruise Line's Lighthouse Point itineraries

Disney Cruise Line 's new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , a private destination on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, is set to open in June with a three-night preview sailing on June 6 aboard Disney Magic. Following the initial voyage, the line will run regular three- to seven-night voyages to Lighthouse Point on Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream.

The island will feature a dedicated family beach and water play area, an arts and culture pavilion focused on Bahamian culture, 20 family cabanas, an adults-only beach and a selection of shore excursion options.

Details: Prices for itineraries that include Lighthouse Point start from $624 per person ($208 per person, per night) for a three-night cruise on Disney Magic. The cruise departs Nov. 5 and sails from Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
