Day 1, Sat, 05.10.2024: Namaste

After your individual arrival in Delhi (flights not included), you’ll be welcomed by your tour guide with a heartfelt “Namaste” and taken to your hotel for a short rest. In the afternoon , it’s time to meet the guys and set off on your first gay adventure together – New Delhi, the capital of India. The first stop of the tour is Qutub Minar , the second tallest minaret in the country. Your gay cultural experience continues with a stop at Humayun’s Tomb , an impressive monument in Indo-Persian style from the 16th century. You’ll close your first day in the sprawling metropolis with a tour of Imperial Delhi , which includes a scenic drive past India Gate, the 42m-high War Memorial, the Parliament House, the Secretariat Buildings, and the Viceroy Palace.

Day 2, Sun, 06.10.2024: City tour through Delhi

Get ready to discover the charm and flavour of Old Delhi by rickshaw and on foot. Your first experience of the day is a visit to Jama Masjid , one of the largest mosques on the Asian continent. Later in the afternoon, you’ll walk to Chandni Chowk , Asia’s most expansive wholesale market. This sizable area full of shops and exotic bazaars is buzzing with energy. With the scent of Indian spices still in your nostrils, you’ll pass by the Red Fort , which was built in the 17th century. The second day of your gay tour will end with a with a visit to Raj Ghat , a humble yet moving memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.

Day 3, Mon, 07.10.2024: Agra Fort & Taj Mahal

After a leisurely breakfast, you’ll depart for Agra Fort . Surrounded by a moat, this dramatic structure was not only the seat and stronghold of the Mughal Empire but was also the palace of three famed emperors. At dusk, you’ll embark on a magical journey to the world’s most beautiful mausoleum – the Taj Mahal . As the Indian sun sets, you’ll be mesmerised by the Mughal architecture and garden design as well as the paintings and calligraphy that make the Taj a cultural jewel. At the end of this unforgettable gay travel experience, your bus driver will take you to Bharatpur .

Day 4, Tue, 08.10.2024: Wild hearts run free

In Bharatpur you’ll embark on a special gay adventure through Keoladeo Ghana National Park , a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This unique wetland and bird sanctuary is home to over 350 species of birds and a variety of other wildlife such as fish, snakes, lizards, amphibians, and turtles that all inhabit the dry grasslands, woodlands, swamps, and wetlands that make up this fascinating nature reserve. After getting your fill of nature, you’ll be taken to Ranthambore where your next gay adventure awaits you.

Day 5, Wed, 09.10.2024: Tiger stalking

Your gay discovery tour through the natural wonders of India continues with a morning and afternoon safari by jeep in Ranthambore National Park , the home of the tiger and an array of other fantastic wildlife covering 392 km². With the help of the naturalist guide, you’ll unlock the secrets of the lush forests as you spot leopards, striped hyenas, sambar deer, chital, nilgai, over 250 species of birds – and with a little luck and some patience, even a tiger!

Day 6, Thu, 10.10.2024: Off to Udaipur

Your gay adventure continues. On our way to Udaipur, we will stop in Chittaurgarh and visit the fortress complex, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. By this time, you’ll have certainly worked up an appetite – lunch today will be served at Padmini Haveli, a traditional Indian home where you’ll be welcomed by a local family. After a delicious meal, you can daydream about your experiences on the bus ride to Udaipur.

Day 7, Fri, 11.10.2024: The Venice of the East

A feast for the eyes awaits you in Udaipur ! Your gay discovery tour through this romantic city begins with a visit to the exquisite City Palace, a majestic white monument in the Indian landscape. From there, you’ll be taken to the stunning Jagdish Temple , the largest temple in the region. The next stop of your gay tour located on the banks of the expansive Fateh Sagar Lake is the fascinating Sahelion-ki-Bari , the Garden of the Maids of Honour. Upon your arrival, you’ll have your fill of ornate fountains decorated with finely carved kiosks as well as a magnificent lotus pool and marble elephants. Afterwards, you’ll have the afternoon free to take in even more sights on your own.

Day 8, Sat, 12.10.2024: Off to Jodhpur

On the road again! En route to Jodhpur , you’ll visit a lavish Jain temple tucked away in a remote valley in the Aravali Mountains of Ranakpur . The temples in this area are famous for their remarkable architecture and ornate ceilings, walls, and columns. Let your gay heart be inspired.

Day 9, Son, 13.10.2024: The Blue City

Get ready to visit one of the most magnificent forts in Rajasthan – Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur , the Blue City . After getting your fill of the romantic gardens and intricately carved facades, you’ll continue to Bikaner . On the way, you’ll stop at the famous Rat Temple in Deshnoke , which is home to 20,000 rats lovingly referred to by locals as “kabbas” or “little children”. The trusting rodents are fed grain, milk, and coconut shells by their keepers who can’t resist their little button eyes. Tonight, you’re in for a special treat – you’ll be spending the night in luxury tents in the Thar Desert. Prepare to be delighted by folk dance performances around the crackling campfire.

Day 10, Mon, 14.10.2024: Pretty in pink

Before you depart for Jaipur , you’ll visit the impressive Junagarh Fort , which was built by Raja Rai Singh in the 16th century. Made up of over 30 palaces and temples, the fort complex is known for its magnificent architecture, intricate design, and lavish interiors. Afterwards, your gay adventure continues in the “Pink City” as Jaipur is referred to in Indian culture. In Rajasthan, pink is the colour of hospitality, which is why the city was painted this colour in 1876, in preparation for the visit of Crown Prince Albert Edward. The city will take your breath away with its unique beauty.

Day 11, Tue, 15.10.2024: Palace of Breeze

After breakfast, you’ll visit Amber Fort with its imposing ramparts, gates, and cobbled paths. In the afternoon, you’ll gain insight into the lives of the Maharajas during your visit to the City Palace , which is a fascinating complex of palaces, pavilions, gardens, and temples. At the Jantar Mantar observatory , you’ll be able to gaze at an extraordinary collection of architectural astronomical instruments, including the world’s largest sundial (27 metres high). Another highlight today is Hawa Mahal , also known as “Palace of Breeze” , which allows the royal ladies to be able to watch any activities on the street without being seen by the public.

Day 12, Wed, 16.10.2024: Time to say goodbye – or time to relax on the beach

Take the morning off to explore Jaipur on your own and make some last-minute memories. In the afternoon, you’ll be driven to a hotel near the airport in Delhi  where you’ll have the opportunity to freshen up before your departure. After a farewell dinner with your gay travel companions, you’ll be transferred to the airport in Delhi  to board your flights home (flights not included). However, you don’t have to leave just yet – you can book our extension package !

Biking, Hiking, Rafting… and of course: the Taj Mahal!

Lots of tour companies visit the vast subcontinent of India to see its many treasures, but only HE Travel immerses you into India’s adventurous wild side! Our gay India Adventure tour begins in Delhi where we delve into the local culture and are swept away to another time and place. Delhi, India’s modern capital, is also a very ancient city filled with hundreds of historic landmarks.

From Delhi, we start our active adventuring by visiting local villages and experiencing rural Indian life to see the cultural traditions that Indians have followed for centuries. Later we head to the countryside around Jaipur where we hop on bicycles to witness the feudal legacy that lives on in this region. As we bike among farming villages, we will provide endless entertainment to local villagers who will be intrigued by westerners riding bikes through India!

We will hike among the Aravalli Hills surrounding Jaipur and also see the massive elephants that played an important in the building of the forts and palaces of this spectacular region. Afterward, there is an optional camel ride! As we drive from Jaipur to Agra we will ride bicycles or walk through Keoladeo Ghana National Park, a small but important bird Sanctuary near Bharatpur.

Our next destination is the famous icon of India, the Taj Mahal. Our HE Travel tour group will not only visit the Taj Mahal itself, but we will walk along the maze of trails that zigzag through the grounds. This allows us to see this monument from several glorious vantage points: the appearance of the Taj Mahal varies greatly in hue, color, and radiance depending on the time of day, sunlight and clouds, season and setting.

Our last stop will be Rishikesh, considered by many to be the “Yoga Capital of the World”. Our final adventures of the tour include whitewater rafting, hiking, and of course…yoga!

Day 1: Arrival

Guests arriving in Delhi will be met and transferred to our lovely hotel. Delhi is made up of seven ancient cities, spanning the 11th to 20th centuries. The region has seen the rise and fall of many emperors who left thousands of monuments commemorating the grandeur and glory of bygone ages. Very few cities in the world can boast such a profusion of architectural styles. To allow maximum flexibility of flights, there are no activities or group meals planned today.

Day 2: Old Delhi Walking Tour

After breakfast this morning, we will walk the streets of Old Delhi with a private guide and be immersed in India’s history. Gain a new understanding of the country’s ancient cultures while seeing life at the local level. Learn about the impressive design of the city’s ‘Havelis’ (private mansions), discover the significance of historical sites like the Red Fort, and admire handmade crafts sold at the market in Chandni Chowk. By walking the same paths that the locals do, you’ll be genuinely immersed in the Old Delhi lifestyle.

Lunch today will be on your own. This afternoon we will visit New Delhi, which was designed and built by the British in the 1920′s. It’s a city of wide boulevards, impressive government buildings, as well as green parks and gardens. We will also visit a monument from Delhi’s past – Humayun’s Tomb. This evening we will visit Gurudwara Bangla Sahib; one of the most prominent Sikh temples. Our drive will take us along the ceremonial avenue, Rajpath, past the imposing India Gate and Parliament House. We will dine together this evening at a delicious restaurant in town for our Welcome Dinner.

Day 3: Off to Jaipur

Today we will head to our hotel in Jaipur, a city known for its historic forts, palaces, and gardens. On the way to Jaipur, we’ll see the evidence of lucrative trade routes over the Thar Desert: remains of luxurious palaces, temples, and forts built by successive rulers, including Hindu Rajputs and Muslim Mughals. A feudal legacy lives on here, in ornate pleated veils, voluminous turbans, tinkling bells, and mirrored saris – all symbols of an exotic past. This is a great destination for shopping, with outstanding values in textiles, jewelry, metals, and precious stones.

This afternoon, we will explore Galta Ji, a large Hindu temple complex. Enjoy these temples that are home to a large colony of monkeys, which has led to its nickname, the monkey temple.

In the evening we will enjoy a thrilling jeep safari to see the city at night. Take in the views of Albert Hall, Hawa Mahal (Wind Palace), Birla Mandir and Jal Mahal. The drive will continue on to the Amber Fort with a breathtaking display of lights on the majestic bluff-top building. Tonight we’ll have the evening to explore and have dinner independently.

Day 4: Amber Fort

This morning we will make our way to Amber Fort (also known as the Amer Palace), a spectacular fortress that protects a complex of palaces, temples and exquisite marble and mirror halls and apartments. From here we will hike 2-3 hours to Jaigarh Fort, then drive to Nahargarh Fort, which overlooks the city of Jaipur with fantastic views, a beautiful palace complex, and a uniquely designed stepwell. As you ascend, you will have beautiful views of the valley, covered in dense forest and streams.

Later tonight we will have the option of learning about Rajasthan’s traditional art of block printing. This process flourished since the 12th century when the art received royal patronage from the kings of the era.

Day 5:  Cycling to Ramgarh

Departing through the outlying settlements of Jaipur and with the Amber Fort as our backdrop, we commence our bicycle ride. By noon, we will arrive at Ramgarh Lake and enjoy lunch under a huge Banyan tree. After lunch, we will explore the village on foot and Jeep. Guests may enjoy an optional camel ride this evening before shuttling back to our Jaipur hotel. Dinner tonight will be on our own.

Day 6: Birding in Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Bharatpur

After breakfast, we will start our drive to Agra. Along the way, we will stop near Bharatpur to explore Keoladeo Ghana National Park, a small but important bird sanctuary. Originally a duck-shooting preserve, the wetland is now a world-renowned birding destination. We’ll walk or cycle along the narrow road to the open wetlands at the end. We’ll then continue to Agra, once the capital of the Mughal Empire, and check in to our hotel. The remainder of the day is free. Feel free this evening to enjoy the optional activity of a grand, Bollywood-style live performance “Mohabbat-e-Taj”, based on the love story that inspired the creation of the Taj Mahal, or an optional yoga and meditation session before sunset on the lovely hillside overlooking the Taj Mahal.

Day 7: Taj Mahal – Monument of Love

Rise early today to get a sunrise perspective of Shah Jehan’s monument to love. The Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal emperor as the final resting place for his favorite Queen, Mumtaz. This perfectly symmetrical monument took 22 years (1630-1652 A.D) of hard labor and 20,000 workers, masons and jewelers to build. It was designed by the Persian architect, Ustad Isa. Verses of the Holy Quran are inscribed in the main building and at the top of the gate’s 22 small domes, which signify the number of years the monument took to build. The elegant main dome of the Taj has a diameter of 60 feet, and directly under the dome is the tomb of Mumtaz Mahal. Fantastic inlay work of semi-precious stones decorates the exterior and interior.

During our sunrise walk, we will gain breathtaking views of the Taj Mahal. We’ll enjoy the beauty of the monument from different perspectives and angles, as the colors shift subtly with the increasing daylight.

After some downtime, we will head to Agra’s Old City. Here we will learn about the legacy of India’s long history including Hindu traditions and a 200-year-old sweets shop. Equally important, we will get a local perspective about how modern-day India is reshaping itself to be prepared for the future. We’ll enjoy dinner together tonight in Agra.

Day 8: Temples and Aarti

Today we drive from Agra to Delhi Airport, then fly to Rishikesh, which calls itself “Yoga Capital of the World”. This area offers a myriad of yoga and meditation classes, surrounded by forested hills, soothing and tranquil for mind expansion. There are opportunities for crystal healing in this gorgeous location, known also as the gateway to treks in the Himalayas.

Day 9: Rafting and Trekking Rishikesh

We will awake to a spiritually refreshing yoga and a meditation session to start the day off-balanced. After breakfast, we will prepare for a morning of whitewater rafting. Before we hit the water, we’ll make a stop at Shivpuri for some rock climbing! Then we will enjoy the light river rapids with our expert guide. We will enjoy lunch together and a little relaxing before we head out for our next activity.

The adventure continues this afternoon, as we hike the Mala Kunti Trek, in the nearby mountains.  After a full day of adventure, we will enjoy dinner together at a local Rishikesh restaurant.

Day 10: Trekking to Kunjapuri Temple

After breakfast, we will begin our day with a full-day trek to Kunjapuri Temple, one of the most revered Hindu shrines. As we hike through green forests we will have spectacular views of the snowcapped mountains of the Himalayas.  There are 290 stairs on along the way so we will take our time and enjoy a day out in nature. From the temple, we will enjoy views of Haridwar, Rishikesh and the Doon Valley.

This evening we will make our way to the Ghats of the Ganges River and enjoy the Aarti Ceremony, which is part of the evening puja (prayers) to thank Mother Ganges for her divine light. As the Aarti fire ceremonies take place, bells are rung and the chanting/singing provides a fascinating, magical and spiritual closure to the day. We will then enjoy our farewell dinner together.

Day 11: Departure

Today we will fly from Rishikesh to Delhi for connecting flights home. In Dehli, a few day rooms are available for a shower or brief rest before your connecting flight. After a tour full of exotic adventure and outdoor activities, we’ll all head home with lifetime memories and cameras full of colorful images.

Milestones for India's LGBTQ+ Rights

Section 377 may have recriminalized gay sex, but India's LGBTQ+ community continues making strides. In 1996, "Fire" became the first Indian film on homosexuality. Day 4 From Delhi to Varanasi Today we leave Delhi behind and head towards Varanasi.

At an agreed time, a transfer will take us to Delhi airport to catch a domestic flight to Varanasi.

Today's flight is not included in the cost of the tour. We will provide the recommended flight details when you book. If you are booking your trip closer to the departure date, there is a chance you will have to purchase a different flight than the rest of the group.

Day 5 Varanasi This morning, after breakfast, you will get to know Varanasi better, on a walking and heritage tour. Varanasi is known to be the original ground created by Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Then lunch time and early afternoon are free to wander wherever you want.

At the end of the afternoon, you will participate in a unique experience: Life and Death . Varanasi is the city where one goes to die. Hindu tradition says to die in Varanasi is to end the cycle of reincarnation that each human being is entrapped in. On a small rowing boat tour, you will be shown both cremation Manikarnika Ghat and Harishchandra Ghat and explain all process of cremation. It is quite fascinating to see.

Day 8 Taj Mahal & Agra Fort Today will be the day you've definitely been looking forward to: Taj Mahal and Agra Fort . You'll visit Taj Mahal, stunning beauty of 17th century and also the historic Agra Fort, another Unesco World Heritage Site. This site used to be the home to Mughal emperors before Delhi became the capital of India.

The end of the day is free to enjoy as you wish.

Day 12 Jaipur Today, after breakfast you will have a different experience: a workshop in which you will learn hand block printing techniques . You will be taken through the entire process starting from carving the hand blocks by the local artisan, block printing by the local printers using various blocks and colors, and the washing. The rest of the afternoon is free to enjoy your last day in Jaipur.

Udaipur, once called the most romantic spot in all of India, is the city of Lakes. This tour covers the most important sites of the city.

After a day of unique visits, the end of the day is free to rest and do whatever you want.

Day 15 Udaipur Today is the last full day of this gay group tour and we have been traveling for a while now, so today is completely free to do whatever you want.

LGBTQ+ Travel Guide to India

India is a smorgasbord of delights, offering everything from beautiful coastline and deserts to mega metropolises. From the snow-covered Himalayan heights in the north to the tropical rain forests of the south, there are a vast range of tourism options from one state to the next, each diverse in nature, cuisine, culture, crafts, adventure, spirituality and history.

LGBTQ+ tourism has begun to increase since the September 2018 Supreme Court ruling that decriminalized homosexuality—a law that had been in effect for 157 years (and dates back to British rule). Sexual activity between people of the same gender is now legal, however same-sex couples are not legally recognized or protected. A previous 2014 High Court ruling recognized a third gender (hijra), which allows individuals to change their gender without sex-reassignment surgery.

In the past several years, there’s been a gradual increase in queer culture across India, with Pride events, queer film festivals, and LGBTQ+ nightlife emerging in the larger cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Bengaluru. It’s the seventh-largest country in the world in terms of landmass, but it is the second largest in global population. It’s estimated that there are approximately 55 million individuals who identify as belonging to the LGBTQ+ community, of which an estimated 4.8 million identify as transgender. For those who have been comtemplating a visit to this mystical land, there's no better time than now.

Why Visit & When to Go?

Indian weather is mainly divided into three parts: summer, monsoon and winter. Typically October to March is the best time to travel. More specifically, if you’re into a beach holiday, choose summer; if you’re more into outdoor adventures and camping, then monsoon season is best; and desert and wildlife safaris are better in winter.

Another great time to plan a visit is during one of the many cultural festivals that take place throughout the country. Holi is one of the most colorful festivals, where revellers toss pigmented powders at each other. Visit Rajasthan during the Churma' Pushkar Fair, Elephant Fair or Desert Festival. Be sure to take time for yourself, by booking an ancient Ayurveda massage to relax the body, or a yoga class to relax the mind. For something off the radar, take a journey on India’s first luxury train, the Maharaja Express.

There are also a growing number of Pride events happening at various times throughout the year. Kolkata Rainbow Pride Walk first happened in 1999, and is now the oldest in India and South Asia. Delhi Queer Pride is held in the country’s capital city annually in November, Mumbai Pride is one of the largest and most attended in the country, with January being declared Pride Month, and there are at least a dozen other queer events happening in smaller locales as well.

Interesting Cities to Visit in India

is the capital of India, and a dichotomy of ancient and modern with historic structures and palaces standing alongside skyscrapers and mega-malls. Stroll through the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk, shop for fashion along Sarojini Nagar or the more exotic Delhi Haat, and visit the ancient Humayun’s Tomb, the posh Hauz Khas Village and the iconic India Gate.

is the mega city of India, offering the best gay life in the country, and is also well known for Maharashtra music, dance and nautankis (street theatre). Be sure to sample the various delights from street vendors, such as vada pav, a deep-fried potato dumpling cooked inside a bread bun.

The capital of West Bengal, is a bustling city of diverse neighbourhoods and contrasting cultures. Durga Puja is the city’s largest festival, taking place annually in October, and is a great opportunity to experience local culture and sample Bengali cuisine, such as Sandesh and rasgulla sweets.

Varanasi is a great religious significance for Hindus. Situated on the banks of sacred river Ganga, the city is believed to be more than 5000 years old. Two highlights are wandering along the riverside ghats, and attending the evening Ganga Aarti ceremony.

The Pink City got its name after all city buildings were given a coat of red paint prior to the arrival of King Edward VII's visit in 1876. Today, the city retains its rosy glow, attracting visitors to sites such as the eclectic Hindu-styled Amer Fort, with its red stone and marble.

is the capital of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, which is well known for its temples and heritage sites, mountains, forests, beaches, arts and culture. Chennai Pride in held annually in June, and also of interest to LGBTQ+ travellers is the annual festival at Koovakkam, where transgender women congregate for a temple festival and rituals during April and May.

Interesting Attractions to Visit in India

There are dozens of UNESCO World Heritage sites to visit throughout the country, along with such notable attractions as The Golden Chariot, The Golden Temple, Palace on Wheels, The Deccan Odyssey and Chettinad Mansions. The Khajaraho temples are famous for their erotic sculptures that contain several depictions of ancient homosexual activity. The Sun Temple and Meenakshi Temple are also notable.

Below are a few cities and sites of significance to consider adding to your itinerary.

The only city in the world glittering with three world heritage sites: Fort Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Fort and, of course, the Taj Mahal, which is even more majestic at sunrise or sunset.

The capital of Jammu and Kashmir and is known for its natural beauty, gardens, and outdoor adventure opportunities. Travel by Shikara to one of the many rental houseboat options on Dal Lake, and be sure to take home a traditional handmade Kashmiri carpet or other local handicrafts. Whitewater rafting can be done in nearby Sonmarg, and thrill seekers can catch a ride on the world’s highest gondola in Gulmarg.

A glittering gem in the northeast Himalayas, with snow-capped mountains, quaint little villages, pristine lakes and vibrant Buddhist monasteries. This is the place to go for year-round outdoor adventures, sampling some Sikkimese delicacies, and grabbing local handicrafts, such as thangka mural paintings.

Goa is well known for its wild 24-hour beach parties taking place in the north, while the more southern parts provide a perfect blend of history, nature and culture. Plan your adventure around the Goa Carnival festival, and be sure to try one of the infamous mud baths for a great detoxification experience.

One of the better-known areas to do wildlife safaris, such as those offered at the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Make sure to book a stay in one of the several unique tree house accommodations.

The perfect location to explore alpine glacial lakes, some of the world’s highest mountain passes and high-altitude scenic trekking trails. Visit Hemis National Park for an opportunity to spot a snow leopard, or visit during the Hemis Festival for one of the most vibrant and colourful events in the country.

Experiencing Indian Food

In general, Indians eat four meals a day, starting with a lighter breakfast, more heavier meals for lunch and dinner, and then ending with high tea and sweets in the evening. Indian food varies across the country with each region utilizing local masalas (spices), so the taste, name and style of cooking is very specific to each state. The staple food typically includes wheat, rice and pulses, with chana being the most important one. A variety of condiments and garnishes are typically included, such as chutneys, relishes and pickles. Some of the more commonly known western dishes are butter chicken, paneer, tandoori, samosas and kabobs.

Curries are often the strongest ingredient, providing the most powerful flavors in rogan josh, korma, vindaloo, dopiaza and dhansak. The main course is often served with a roti flatbread and biryani rice dish, along with a mix of legumes, nuts, fruits and vegetables. Various meats are often added, with lamb, goat and mutton being most common. Fish and seafood, including shrimp, crabs, squid, clams and mussels are sometimes used. Sweets are also delicious and are the perfect ending to any meal, especially when served with the local chai tea or lassi, a drink of thinned yogurt.

While Indians love to cook and entertain at home, they also enjoy socializing in a variety of settings, from fine dining to roadside diners and street vendors. Restaurants typically serve a combination of Indian and Chinese cuisine, with a strong focus on vegetarian dishes, often based on religious and cultural influences. While tempting to try those roadside delicacies with all their alluring aromas, tourists are advised to stick with the more traditional restaurants to avoid getting “Delhi belly.”  

Tips and Safety Considerations for LGBTQ+ Visitors to India

While homosexuality has been decriminalized, it’s still advisable to exercise caution with same-sex public affection. Women in particular should be careful, because unfortunately there is still quite a lot of misogyny and disrespectful assumptions about foreign women. Gay men should be careful of local males who target them as potential sexual encounters, and then demand money to not report them to police, who are also often involved in the scam. Nightclubs and saunas do exist, but they tend to be scarce—not so much because of prejudice, but because of the complexities of laws around alcohol consumption in most states. As well, the conservative attitudes toward sexual expression of any kind, and the high operational costs, make any kind of clubs hard to run. Many cities also have organizations like Gay Bombay, which allows visiting LGBTQ+ people to interact with local communities prior to their arrival. In Chennai, local LGBTQ+ organizations include Sahodaran, as well as Orinam, which organizes monthly support groups. India has a vast array of gay-friendly accommodation options, such as holiday camps, eco-friendly jungle resorts, tree houses, and houseboats that range from budget to luxury. Be sure to do your research and inquire before booking.  

LGBTQ+ Travel Tips for India

Delhi and Mumbai are the two largest cities with the most LGBTQ+ happenings, while the more coastal state of Goa is known for its beach and party vibe along the Arabian Sea.

The capital of Delhi is huge and hectic, yet exciting and exuberant, as old world culture clashes with modern-day style. Shopping and fashion are top notch here, as is the cuisine and a thriving arts scene. In terms of queer nightlife, there are several LGBTQ+ friendly establishments throwing regular parties, and connecting with locals might get you invites to the more underground private events happening around the city. Chez Jerome-Q Cafe is Delhi’s first LGBTQ+ owned café and has programming that includes drag, DJs and movie nights. Mykonos Men’s Spa is located above. Delhi Queer Fest and Pride Parade happens in November, and Delhi International Queer Theater and Film Festival takes place in December.

Mumbai is India’s most progressive city, home to Bollywood and all the campy fashion that goes with it. Known as the City of Dreams, it has a more youthful and accepting aura, relaxed yet vibrant. It’s one of the main centers in the country for art, culture, music, dance and theater. Head to South Mumbai for a more British colonial experience; the Gateway to India for more native traditional; and Bandra is where the Bollywood stars hang out and where many bars and nightclubs are located. Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival is held in June and is the largest in South Asia. Queer Azaadi Mumbai Pride is held in February and is one of the largest in the country.

Much different from the rest of the country, the atmosphere of Goa varies, with the south being more a traditional cultural experience, while the north is where the glamorous party scene happens. Throughout the state there’s a sense of openness among the locals, who are more accepting of diversity, with several gay-friendly establishments and parties organized on a recurring basis. The nightlife here rivals that of many larger international cities, but with much lower prices. Be sure to check out the open-air parties at Arambol, Vagator and Palolem, and also Goa Pride in November.

In 2018, India’s Supreme Court decriminalized homosexuality. The watershed moment overturned a 2013 ruling that called gay sex an ‘unnatural offence.’ Meanwhile, a 2014 ruling recognized a third gender ( hijra ). While these are all massive steps forward for a traditionally homophobic country, the general opinion surrounding LGBT rights still tends to be very negative. Local LGBT people tend to be very discreet.

3. Taj Mahal

Topping nearly every 7 Wonders list, the Taj Mahal has mystified and seduced millions of travellers. Be sure to witness her splendour at sunrise or sunset.

The Pink City got its name after a fresh coat of red paint was added to every building in anticipation of King Edward VII’s visit in 1876. The city retains its rosy glow and is a popular destination among visitors.

India’s capital is a dichotomy of ancient and modern. Historic structures and palaces stand alongside skyscrapers. India’s famous bazaars are as chaotic as the city’s modern shopping malls. Meanwhile, the dangerous streets are cluttered with rusty rickshaws and slick new cars. Most travellers need a few days to adjust to the pulsing tempo of Delhi.

Best Time to Visit:  India – specifically Rajasthan – is worth visiting between October and March. The nights are more relaxed, and the humidity less oppressive, but the real sweet spot is in February (when we visit). That’s when daily highs peak at 27C/80F, with evening lows around 16C/61F.

Covid-19 Vaccination Requirements: We’re dedicated to ensuring our tours are safe for everyone, but it is our belief that each traveler has a responsibility to protect themselves and their fellow travellers from COVID-19. As of May 1, 2023, Out Adventures no longer requires guests to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination on most of our tours. If vaccination is a requirement for entry, or on select cruises, this will be communicated at the time a trip is confirmed to depart. I've done a fair bit of traveling, and india is a complex, wonderful country. a trip to any city in india isn't like one to new york or paris but if you want to pay a premium i guess you could even find that. but i go to india for the sights and sounds, the geography, the people, architecture, customs, and food - each region has its own flair and it is an amazing country. it has had been 10 years since my last visit, and much has changed. but pink vibgyor knows their stuff and raj is an experienced, gracious travel planner. i just returned from a 20-day trip and raj organized it all without a hitch. during the planning stages, my multiple emails were answered promptly. the duration of the trip changed over time, as did the route because i was able to do research on the places raj suggested. he adjusted perfectly. options were endless (i had my own personalized tour; not part of a group) and i had my choice of accommodation - from 'backpacker-style' to over the top luxury. you get what you pay for, and my backpacker days are long gone so i chose the middle of the pack - and wasn`t disappointed. raj even provided links to each hotel so i knew the style to expect. he tries to give you a taste of india - from urban to rural, traditional to modern. tell him what you want and he`ll arrange it. so if you need 5-star taj-oberoi-treatment make sure he knows and he`ll arrange that for you - and you`ll pay the premium. i checked several competing agencies and the costs were in line. from the minute i arrived at the airport (raj waited at the arrivals area, sign in hand, for my 2:00 am flight) right through to my evening departure for home, raj set it all up perfectly. hotels, air-conditioned car, and driver (hi ajay), daily tours with very knowledgeable guides. transfers car-train-flights all went off without a hitch, with guides and drivers making sure i didn`t miss any of my connections. i didn`t realize it until a few days in, but raj was calling ajay almost every day to see how things were going - you don`t get that with many travel agencies. to give you one example, i had a single train segment, which turned out to be two and a half hours late departing, but the local guide stayed with me at the station (he insisted), and upon arrival in delhi, a driver met me on the platform and got me to the airport. those hand-offs were part of the package but what i didn`t know, raj had booked a 3-hour window for the flight so i was stressed out, thinking i was going to miss the connection but it turns out he was checking the flight departure and called the driver to tell us the flight was also delayed. so we were rushed, but i made the connection. that is service raj also went out of the way to facilitate a smooth trip. he told me about baggage weight limitations for the internal flight segments but i didn`t think it through. i packed accordingly but then i started buying souvenirs. all fine for the first week traveling delhi-rajasthan by car, but i flew from rajasthan back to delhi - ultimately five internal flight segments (delhi-varanasi-delhi-chennai-delhi) with a train (and more car) segments in the middle. but raj gratefully agreed to take three large parcels, storing them in his office. what travel agent would do that raj. saved me from carting it around, paying excess baggage fees (actually it wouldn`t have all fit in my luggage - lol) he saved the day. india is challenging. but raj took all of the stress out of it. the only thing i would suggest: raj or the local guides give out maps for each city. and for the travelers: make sure you are clear on the style of accommodation you want. if you want modern hotels in the heart of each location, make that clear. the closer to downtown you get the noisier things are, the rooms are smaller, and the hotels are more expensive. most of my hotels were cab-rides away from the core of each city but i was fine with that. my only mistake was planning too many cities; lots of driving and relatively little time to explore each one. next time i`ll stay at least 2 days in each place. i`ll work that out with raj for my next trip. definitely i recommend pink vibgyor.

Pink vibgyor is an outstanding india travel company i am an experienced global traveler and refined my selection before making the decision to use them. rajat and his team were terrific there were many emails to make the selection of our program: number of days, sights, and transportation. all of the questions, and suggestions were answered in a timely manner, and to my satisfaction. he personally came to the airport with a car and driver. the car was a new suv with a/c and the driver aj was fantastic for our two-week journey. he was a most careful driver, courteous, and prized our safety above all else. the car was always immaculately clean, with space for luggage, and cold water the program was centered on the golden triangle with an emphasis on higher-end hotels. we decided to secure our health and well-being with higher-end hotels (oberoi group) and were extremely pleased. the travel company secured upgrades and exceeded our expectations they provided the driver with a phone for constant communication throughout the two weeks and provided contact with the local guides as well. the trip was well planned, and we visited the major tourist sites. the local guides were all friendly, on time, and spoke great english. india is just now accepting a gay lifestyle. there are no popular gay bars, saunas, etc in delhi. you cannot expect a travel agency to establish a gay culture. you can arrange meeting gay indian men via social media. i can highly recommend using this company, and will do so again later this year they did a great job.

Thanks to Peter for organizing my south India group tour. Special thanks for organizing side trip for Edwin and Reece, they were extremely happy with all the arrangements and the hotels. The selection of hotels in south India was very good and we especially liked the jungle lodge at Nagarhole.

Our coach was very clean and comfortable throughout the trip, though roads were bumpy and rides were a bit long sometimes but they were worth it. Rajat and Peter offered us a nice choice of beautiful budget hotels which were great value for money. Food was delicious, really spice route of India.

The highlight was Varkala, one of the best beaches voted by most of the group members.

Overall, great service and perfectly organized. Also, Peter and Rajat were always available and were keeping a track on our every move which exceeded our expectation

Just be attentive: the Hotels "heritage" is not like in Europ, as Pousadas or Châteaux Hotels. They could be very charming or the houses could be beautiful, but less comfortable, noisy etc ... so have a precise look before renting them. (are there windows in the room ? is the room a large one? how is the bathroom? etc ..).

My partner and I (male couple) just came back from India. The whole trip was organised by Raj from Pink Vibgyor. This is the second time we travelled with him (first time was Sri Lanka) and we were pleased with the service on both occasions. The trip was personally organised for us through regular email exchanges over a few months including many adjustments to make the trip fit exactly what we wanted. The hotels proposed by Raj were perfect and in the few occasions we weren't keen on a hotel he proposed - great alternatives were offered.

On the ground - everything worked well. Ground transport, hotels, pick-ups and drop offs, guides etc. With the exception of one hotel, no hotel seemed puzzled about our request to have a single king-size bed and even with that particular hotel - our request was followed up quickly.

On top of it all, due to a medical situation (yes, that famous Delhi belly!) we needed to re-arrange our travel plans on a short notice and it was done by Raj very quickly to our fullest satisfaction.

Our trip centred on the south of the country. We had been to the north before. We absolutely loved Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Gay travel agency in india | gay tours to india | northern india, raj was very attentive via email in planning our recent (first) trip to india. we did the golden triangle. raj was very helpful with advice regarding hotel choices and also very open to our booking most of the hotels using award points. overall, things went very smoothly from start to finish with only a couple hiccups - which from what i gather would be considered hitting a home run in india during our actual time in india, raj was out of the country but his assistant, amir, stepped in and took care of us - checking in almost daily to make sure everything was going well. our driver, singh, was great. very professional with a good heart. the guides were, with one exception, all fine. i think one thing i learned about travel guides in india (and this is in no way unique to pink vibgyor) is that they are hard-wired to get you into tourist shops. if that's not your thing you have to be polite but firm that you don't wish to spend your time that way. for the most part, raj's guides were respectful of that. if you were on a group tour i don't think you would have that luxury. a car, driver, and guides proved to be a great way to see india - not group travel (which we almost always avoid) but not completely independent travel either (which is what we typically do but i can't imagine doing in india unless you are still in the backpacker demographic)..

I just returned from india, my 3rd trip, a couple of weeks ago, and used raj at pink vibgyor to help plan and book this tour. raj and his team were amazing in helping me to plan and organize my tour with the places i wanted to see and visit. i went up to kashmir as part of the trip, and there the hotels are of a different standard in some of the places then in the south or central india, esp in gulmarg. the weather in gulmarg didn't help either. it was rainy, cool, and still lots of snow on the ground. thankfully only had 2 nights there. i had the pleasure of meeting raj and his staff in dehli. he is a wonderful young man and treated us to a fabulous lunch at a place near his office. i would definitely book another tour through this company if i returned to india..

We just got back Saturday, two weeks. One in Sri Lanka and the second in Kerala India. Raj at Pink Vibgyor did a fantastic job with our whole trip. English speaking guides, safe and friendly! Resorts we went to us fine with us, older lesbian couple. There were two guy couples at the same places along with families and other couples but all great. We did some city tours, a houseboat river tour, highly recommend, and Abad Turtle Beach Resort had the best cottages and full-service restaurants. You have to arrange a tuk-tuk ride 15 min away to take you to a hidden liquor store to stock up on beers, wine or booze or for a higher fee, the restaurant manager will get it for you. Great beach if you like quiet and not big crowds. We did like the pool's best and massages.

We have just returned from a wonderful third holiday in India, and our first tour organized by Rajat and the team at Pink Vibgyor: it was a great success and we really enjoyed it. "Western travelers" must realize that things are often different in India, standards are sometimes not what the first time visitor might expect. Of course, there are super deluxe hotels for those with the money to pay for them, but there are more modest ones where the important thing is the friendly welcome and willingness to help is more important than a five-star restaurant and the selections of freebies in the bathroom. After a short visit to Kathmandu in Nepal, we made a tour by air-conditioned car with our own driver to the major tourist centres in Rajasthan and then proceeded by air for a second tour of Kashmir and Ladakh. During all parts of the tour, we felt that we were "in charge" Our drivers and guides consulted with us over timings etc. and made short unscheduled stops for us to point out places of special interest en route. Everything went like clockwork - air tickets, the airport to hotel connections, hotel bookings, tour guides, but above all the personal attention we had throughout. Rajat and Peter met us at Delhi in the middle of the night and took us to our hotel and subsequently entertained us for our second evening in the city but also via email mobile 'phone and our charming driver kept track of our progress and quickly rectified any little niggles we had. It is quite normal that in a vast country like India a tour agent cannot have total control over all the elements that go into a complex package such as we undertook, but with one or two minor exceptions we had no reason to complain, but importantly Rajat immediately rectified any minor problems as they arose and has taken heed of our recommendations for the future.

We shall certainly return to India soon and will not hesitate to renew our contact with Rajat and Peter.

We traveled to India for 21 days and had already arranged out tour through someone else when we found Pink Vibgyor on the internet. We contacted them purely to enquire about nightlife in Delhi and Husain almost immediately contacted us to assist. He was polite and friendly and we booked an excursion with him for a night out in Delhi. Needless to say, we had a great night with a very professional and kind Husain. He was definitely up to date with the happening in gay Delhi and after receiving an SMS whilst in the taxi changed the itinerary to ensure that we attend the best party. He even suggested quite a number of do's and dont's on our itinerary that eventually turned out to be great advice! He also explained the big news at that time (the High Court just outlawed gay sex in India) and the march that everybody in the club invited us to that would happen the next day in Juntar Mantar (close to our hotel) the next day. We only returned to our hotel in the early hours of the day and Husain ensured that we reached our hotel safe and comfortable without once getting frustrated or annoyed - our happiness was his main concern, and he made us understand that every time we apologized for having another absolutely final beer at the club. He bargained for a much better price with the taxi driver (100 rupees vs the standard 500 rupees charged for foreigners) that what was offered and gave us a quick intro on bargaining on prices in India that also assisted a lot during the remainder of our tour. We will be traveling to India again soon and will this time only make use of Pink Vibgyor for our arrangements as it really seems as if they know what they are doing!

I am appalled at the negative responses in this forum.....

My partner and I have just completed our 3rd trip (twice to India and once to Sri Lanka) in which we utilized the services of Rajat and his company Pink Vibgyor. Not once have we ever encountered anything less than flawless professionalism from Rajat and his colleagues.

We have only returned home 1 week, and already we have plans to return again, thank Pink Vibgyor.

For each trip, I have sent endless emails with questions, itinerary changes, price queries, and sundry items or requests. Each and every email is always answered promptly, and nothing is ever too much trouble.

On each trip, from the initial 'meet and greet' right the way through to our departure, each and every driver and local guide has been prompt, courteous, informative, and professional.

The hotels selected have always matched the description or standard that was paid for.

Throughout each trip Rajat would keep in direct contact with ourselves, checking that everything was as planned, and obliging if we want any last-minute changes or requests. We noted also that he is also keeping a close eye on the drivers and guides and keeps in constant contact there also.

Repeat customers are the best recommendation, and we will soon have used Pink Vibgyor four times in 4 years.

There are a couple of comments I would like to make to some of the people reading or posting to this forum or thinking about travel in India.

In consideration of the vast size of India, and as is the industry norm for many locations, no one company has direct employees in each location that it runs tours or that its clients will ask to visit.

As a result, and it's not at all uncommon, your chosen Travel Agent will contract the services of a local Travel Agent in the different locations to provide that section of your tour. That's why you need a travel agent like Rajat who will quietly keep in constant contact with all parties, and keep your trip flowing smoothly and without any hiccups.

Also with Rajat's long family history in the travel industry, he is able to provide people with whom he has had much contact and received only positive client feedback.

Some of the 'pink dollar' Tour Agents are offering fabulously decadent 'gay experiences' in India, but they don't have the history, knowledge, or experience to back it all up, and quite frankly I don't think India is set up for some of the tour 'inclusions' that are being touted.

Secondly, what is being offered is 'Gay Friendly' tourism in India.

A huge, vast, and mostly undeveloped Sub Continent in which the 'Western gay lifestyle' is unheard of and unknown to the majority of locals.

So what you are offered is the chance to experience amazing India and all that it has to offer in a safe, completely understanding, and totally excepting environment.

Any person you may come across via Pink Vibgyor be it driver, guide, or Hotel receptionist might be gay, or they might not be.

But its also totally irrelevant, because what you are guaranteed is that they will be 'gay friendly', will not show any discrimination, and will perform their duties with utmost professionalism so that you are able to get the most from your holiday touring around India.

If someone is looking for something more 'gay' (whatever that may be) than 'gay friendly' when in India they should turn Grindr on their phone and hunt it up themselves, do not expect a travel agent to provide it for them.

That smacks too much of of the sex tourism industry that is the bane of South East Asia.

I am back from the south India & Himalaya tour. It was a very pleasant experience. When I arrived in Delhi I was Warmly welcomed by Rajat. (He came to meet me in the early morning!). He ensured that I was ready for the trip. Gave me a few very important advice.

From the airport, to a lavish and luxury hotel. Radisson was fantastic, nice service, nice food. Flew from Delhi to Dehradoon and then went to Rishikesh. Overwhelmed by the crowd but was nice experience , worth it. The places the driver took me and the way he already knew what my concerns are was appreciable. Guides used were professional.

Ride from rishikesh to Dharmsala was a long one but sure wasn't boring there was so much too see. I never saw Elephants roaming around. Even in the out-scuds but I did in Rishikesh. Woah was intimidating and exciting at the same time.

Dharmsala was wonderful so was kerela. Went to Munnar. A very beautiful place wish I could stay a but longer there but hoping to visit india back to explore Rajasthan.

Overall, the company was professional, they knew what they were doing and they are good at what they do. I never felt being cheated. Infact they kept giving me nice free meals and other surprises every few days.

The drivers were very friendly and the guides were good too. Had an awesome shopping experience.

Best, perfect, advanced and highly professional Gay travel Agency in India

When reading reviews, I try to decide what sort of traveller the reviewer is. So let me tell you about this first: my partner (of 24 years) and I usually travel independently by train, bus, hire-car or plane, and stay in misterbnb or two- and three-star hotel accommodation. Rather than tours or guides, we use the internet and guide books to locate and inform us about attractions. I book as much as possible on-line before we leave, and only use a travel agent when absolutely necessary. We have travelled to 60+ countries (not that I'm counting). Although we go to gay bars or parties when in large cities, we do not travel to 'gay events'; it's incidental rather than a priority. Ok, we did a gay (Atlantis) cruise last year, which I am still trying to decide if I enjoyed. Lol.

Last year we travelled independently using public transport through West Africa and decided it was all far too much work for a holiday! So, when considering India, travel by train and bus, or driving ourselves, were both out of the question. Back from our Atlantis cruise, we decided that travel with a gay group might be fun. We had previously travelled in (straight) groups through Africa, and South and Central America, although I do acknowledge the associated loss of independence.

A google search thew up Pink Vibgyor, a 'gay-friendly' subsidiary of Club Holidays, and a review on this website encouraged me to pursue the possibility of travelling with them. The group travel dates and itinerary didn't work for us, so the director, Raj, suggested we put an itinerary together for a private tour with his company. We had been on private tours twice before - in southern Ethiopia and in Madagascar and had enjoyed them both times. After many emails, which Raj always responded to promptly, we had an itinerary for a 19-day trip to India at what we considered a very reasonable price. The cost included the car and driver (and petrol), internal flights, hotels, and guides, all of which Raj organised. The additional expenses were our flights to/from India, and tips for drivers, guides and hotel staff.

Our itinerary was: Delhi - Jaisalmer(fly) - Jodphur - Udaipur - Pushkar - Jaipur - Ranthambore NP - Fatehpur Siri - Agra - Orchha - Khajuraho - Varanasi(fly) - Delhi (fly). Highlights were the Taj Mahal in Agra (of course) and seeing a tiger in the wild at Ranthambore. Less interesting was Jaisalmer as we weren't interested in a camel ride in the sand dunes (having previously travelled in the Sahara), Pushkar (too touristy, too many hippies - although great felafel, and not a great deal to see), and Varanasi (too many Westerners "finding themselves" by pandering to fake holy men. Total tourist trap). By Agra, we thought we were over temples, forts and centopaths, but excellent guides at Orchha and Khajuraho brought the attractions there alive. The guides we had were, with only one exception, very good to excellent. The hotels were three- to four-stars. Thinking India hot, and forgetting we were travelling there in winter, I had specified to Raj that I wanted hotels with swimming pools. They had great pools, but we didn't swim in a single one. Nevertheless, the presence of a pool usually implies a certain level of the hotel, and was were happy with all of them, and very happy with most. If you wanted to stay in more luxurious, or less expensive hotels, I am sure that Raj could arrange this.

Our driver, Mr Singh, was excellent, an expert at driving in Indian traffic. Determined, but never aggressive, we felt totally safe in his hands. The car was always spotlessly clean, inside and out, and there was never a hint of any malfunction or problem. Mr Singh was polite and respectful, and we enjoyed finding out about his life, and India in general, by chatting with him.

The tour was very well organised by Raj, who met us at Delhi airport and stayed in contact with us directly (via whatsapp) and through Mr Singh. An excellent, professional, gay-friendly company that I highly recommend.

Onir , one of a handful of out and proud Indian filmmakers, is speaking out about the current scenario for LGBTQ filmmakers in the country.

“There are a lot of non-Indian queer films and series available on streaming and also a lot of queer short films and reel videos being made across the country. Having said that, I feel the mainstream industry and streaming platforms when it comes to queer content are mostly still taking baby steps, and also looking at our stories from a very heteronormative gaze,” Onir told Variety .

After breaking through in 2005 with “My Brother… Nikhil,” one of the few Bollywood films to examine AIDS and same-sex relationships, Onir’s latest film “ Pine Cone ” is set to hold its U.K. premiere at the BFI Flare : London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival. “Pine Cone,” the story of gay director Sid, unfolds over key dates for gay rights in India, including the landmark day when homosexuality was decriminalized, recounting three different encounters in his love life.

In “Pine Cone,” in the very first scene, the protagonist mentions that an Indian army-related film has not been cleared. In 2021, Onir was trying to make a sequel to his 2010 anthology film “I Am,” titled “We Are.” The first story “We are Faheem & Karun,” inspired by a former Indian army major, was a love story between an army man and a Kashmiri local.

“In India the new rule is that if there is anything about the army you need to get it cleared by the Ministry of Defence,” Onir said. “The ministry refused to give clearance to the film, neither did they provide any reason. Months later it came up in the parliament and the defence ministry spokesperson claimed that the film was derogatory towards the army (army man being shown as gay) and was also a threat to the country’s security. The ministry continued to evade any direct discussion with me. Even after the Supreme court of India decriminalized homosexuality in 2018 the Ministry of Defence in India refuses to recognize the queer community in the forces.”

“I thought this film of mine coming at a time of rejection has to be a film that is not about the heteronormative world accepting us, or how miserable it is not being equal, but to celebrate visibility — negating invisibility by celebrating resilience. The society and changing landscape of legal rights for the queer community [is] the backdrop, but the protagonist navigates through life, out and proud, living his life out in the sun,” Onir said.

Of the overarching message he wanted to convey through “Pine Cone,” Onir said: “I am tired of hearing that the Indian [and] South Asian community is taking baby steps in accepting the queer community and stories. I want this film to push that audience to acknowledge that our lives are not only about their acceptance. There is love, loss and desire that is very often made invisible. I want them to watch this love story as another love story and think why as a gay man I can without any hesitation go and watch and enjoy a heterosexual love story. Why can’t they do the same with our stories? What is the fear? That is the reason I adapted a very mainstream Indian cinema style to tell this story. I want it to be accessible.”

Next up for Onir is a renewed attempt to make “We Are Faheem & Karun,” which would be the first Kashmiri-language queer film. “It’s part of a series of queer love stories I want to make as a celebration of the Supreme Court of India decriminalizing us,” Onir said.

Live streaming, China Masters 2024: Ayush Shetty set to take part - where to watch in India

The China Masters 2024 gets underway on March 19 in Ruichang, China. Watch it live!

Ayush Shetty will front the Indian challenge at the China Masters 2024 badminton tournament, which will be held at the Ruichang Sports Park Gym in the People’s Republic of China from Tuesday.

The 18-year-old Ayush Shetty has been seeded second in the men’s singles category at the BWF Super 100 tournament. The 2023 World Junior Championships bronze medallist has received a bye in the first round and will face the winner of the round of 64 clash between Japan’s Koshiro Moriguchi and Macau’s Pui Pang Fong.

Shetty, ranked world No. 80, is coming into this tournament after making it to the round of 32 at the Vietnam International Challenge 2024. He had also qualified for the semi-final of the Azerbaijan International 2024 before being knocked out by the Republic of Korea’s Jeon Hyeok Jin.

India’s Raghu Mariswamy will also start from the second round, taking on the winner of the match between Yang Yang and Larry Pong. Another Indian badminton player , K Gulshan Kumar, however, will have to face Australia’s Ricky Tang in the first round.

In the men’s doubles category, Dingku Singh Konthoujam and Amaan Mohammad are up against the home team of Deng Chenghao and Fan Junlin while Riduvarshini Ramasamy and Sania Sikkandar will represent India in the women’s doubles and take on Chinese Taipei’s Chiu Pin-chian and Tung Ciou-tong in the first round.

Tarun Kona and Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli will be seen playing in the mixed doubles. They are set to take on Zhang Hanyu and Wu Mengying of China.

Millions blocked from porn sites as free speech, child safety debate rages across US

Corrections and clarifications: An earlier version of this story misstated when Texas passed HB 1181, an age-verification law. It passed in June 2023.

A high-stakes battle over pornography, child safety and free speech is heating up across the nation, with more than a half-dozen states passing age-verification laws aimed at halting minors from accessing Pornhub and other adult web sites.

Texas is among seven states to pass some form of the controversial legislation, which effectively blocks millions of adult video enthusiasts from entering Pornhub’s site unless they can prove they are at least 18 years old.

Attorneys and advocates for porn sites argue that the laws are not just prohibiting minors, but adults, too. Pornhub says it had no choice but "to completely disable access to our website in Texas" in order to reduce the risk of hefty fines and penalties.

In addition to Texas, Pornhub has reluctantly blocked site access for people in other states with age-verification laws, including Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Utah and Virginia.

“We are fighting not only for the rights of our members and the larger adult entertainment community, but for the right of all Americans to access constitutionally protected expression in the privacy of their own home," said Alison Boden, Executive Director of Free Speech Coalition, a national advocacy organization for the First Amendment rights of adult businesses. The group filed a lawsuit in federal court last year over what it called an "anti-porn ban" by Utah lawmakers.

The HB 1181 law passed in June 2023 in Texas requires companies that offer “sexual material harmful to minors” to verify that those who visit their website are 18 or older, either by proof of government-issued identification or another system that uses public and private data.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a Republican, sued Pornhub’s parent company, Aylo, in February to force them to comply with the HB 1181 law. Paxton also threatened the company with millions of dollars in civil penalties – including up to $10,000 per day for noncompliance, and $250,000 “if a child is exposed to pornographic content due to not properly verifying a user’s age.”

“Texas has a right to protect its children from the detrimental effects of pornographic content,” Paxton said in announcing the suit. “I look forward to holding any company accountable that violates our age verification laws intended to prevent minors from being exposed to harmful, obscene material on the internet.”

The Texas case illuminates similar restrictions on pornography websites across the US. And it shines a light on the debate over the balance between keeping children safe online and free speech protections guaranteed by the First Amendment.

New message on Pornhub in some states

When Texans go to Pornhub, they find a message that says the law impinges "on the rights of adults to access protected speech . . . Not only will it not actually protect children, but it will also inevitably reduce content creators' ability to post and distribute legal adult content and directly impact their ability to share the artistic messages they want to convey."

Pornhub says the "only effective solution" to protect children and adults is to verify the users' age on their devices and deny or allow them access to age-restricted content and websites based on that verification, according to the message on the site.

“Until the real solution is offered, we have made the difficult decision to completely disable access to our website in Texas,” the adult site's message read.

Paxton's office declared victory when the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit determined the Texas law does not violate the First Amendment.

“Applying rational-basis review, the age-verification requirement is rationally related to the government’s legitimate interest in preventing minors’ access to pornography,” the court said. “Therefore, the age-verification requirement does not violate the First Amendment.”

Identification card required for adult access

More than a handful of states across the US have passed age verification legislation in the last year. Many of them require the companies to obtain an identification card from users who want to access adult sexual content.

Louisiana was the first state to pass an age-verification requirement law.

"So far, six other states have copied this (Louisiana) bill but minor changes have been made to the text, which can have big implications for systems designed to achieve compliance," reads a post from the Age Verification Providers Association . The organization is a not-for-profit global trade body representing 26 organizations who provide "age assurance solutions."

Child safety debate rages across the US

The laws - and pushback from the porn industry - cast light on the debate over free speech and child safety .

The Free Speech Coalition sued Texas over the latest law, arguing infringement on freedom of speech.

"We can all work to keep minors from accessing adult content, but allowing the government to dictate what information adults can see is unconscionable and unconstitutional," according to Boden.

A statement from the coalition following the recent court decision allowing Texas to uphold the law reads: "Our battle, of course, is just beginning. Unfortunately, we’ve already seen how this designation has been weaponized to censor and ban LGBTQ+ literature, reproductive rights resources, sex education, art, and healthcare. Sexual expression, online and off, has been and continues to be the canary in the coal mine of free speech.

Child safety advocates and state legislators where laws have passed argue that protections are needed to ensure kids are safe online.

A poll from RMG Research shows a majority of Americans support a federal law requiring adult websites that contain sexual content to have some kind of age-verification requirements.

The battles in states across the country could foreshadow what's to come in other states looking at age verification laws.

"After a wave of legislation focused on child online safety swept through state legislatures over the past two years, legal challenges against the new laws are gaining traction in federal courts," reads an article from Tech Policy Press . "But rather than signaling a change in the tide, the lawsuits may ultimately spur a new round of bills that address flaws in those passed in the first wave."

Indiana age-verification bill could be next

Similar legislation in Indiana could become law and possibly lead to Pornhub also disabling access to that state, the difference is, the company may also be held legally liable by minors' parents.

Senate Bill 17 is on its way to Indiana Gov. Gov. Eric Holcomb. and it would, like HB 1181, require "adult-oriented websites" to mandate the verification of its users to make sure they are 18 or older.  

According to Indiana law , harmful materials for minors can include representations of nudity, sexual conduct and sadomasochistic abuse. 

The Indiana bill differs from the Texas law because it allows parents to sue if their children access a pornography site that is "knowingly or intentionally" not utilizing age-verification measures. The minor's parent or guardian can receive up to $5,000 in damages if a court rules in their favor. The attorney general can also sue pornography websites that don't abide by the law, but the civil penalty would be up to $250,000.

Pornhub also disabled access in 2023 in Utah when the state passed its age verification law .

A new wave of public tickets will be made available this week, but this will not include more tickets for the India vs. Pakistan game. 

Tickets for the India vs. Pakistan game are available on resale vendor websites like StubHub and Vivid Seats . Due to the substantial demand, these are higher-priced than the original standard ticket prices.

How much are India vs. Pakistan tickets?

While it's unclear exactly how much the original standard India vs. Pakistan tickets went for in the ballot, the cheapest tickets for other matches at USA venues start at $35 (although India vs. Pakistan was most likely more). The only currently available India vs. Pakistan resale tickets on StubHub are $1,258 each. Vivid Seats listings are similarly priced, starting at $1,687.

Agoda CEO: Customer Support in India Needs Work

Omri Morgenshtern, CEO of Agoda , is confident the online travel agency can rapidly expand across India but says it needs to work even harder on “localization” efforts to do so. For Morgenshtern, localization means everything from more varied payment options, language options, and better ground support for customers facing problems.

He said at Skift India Summit 2024 : “Heavily localization is a focus. We look to bridge the gap for everyone on the ground. Say, we can sell a hotel in Japan to an Indian customer as if they were in Tokyo. Our point of view, if you want to cater to the outbound Indian traveler, you’ve got to localize. They want to pay with the options they are used to; they want customer support they are used to.”

“India needs a lot of localization.”

A particular gripe of Morgenshtern’s at the moment is on support for Indian customers. He said on stage that customers booking hotels in India through Agoda are finding their room wasn’t actually booked three or four times more often than any other market Agoda serves.

The CEO revealed: “The worst thing for any traveler is when they go to a hotel and their room isn’t there. Our numbers for those situations are very, very low, but in India, it tends to be three or four times higher. Certain partners, it can be 10 times higher. Part of that is due to overbooking. There’s a lot of that behavior we need to support against.”

Morgenshtern became Agoda CEO in 2022 and was COO before. Morgenshtern was earlier the co-founder and CEO of Israel-based Qlika, a startup specializing in online marketing optimization, which Booking Holdings acquired in 2014.

This is to say, he is a tech-focused leader, so much so that he said Agoda is the industry leader in certain travel tech optimizations.

“The faster and stronger you are with tech, the more value you can bring to consumers,” he said. “We are obsessed with tech. Agoda has a lot to offer in the tech space.”

“Agoda is probably the best price intelligence agency on the planet [for travel]. Knowing price intelligence is a tech game. We are price obsessed.”
