If you have an iPhone, AirPods, and an Apple Watch, congrats! You have the holy trinity of Apple products. But keeping all these gadgets powered up can be annoying, since they all have individual cables and proprietary charging solutions. Why deal with all that hassle when a single 3-in-1 wireless charger can accommodate everything? Our Best Wireless Chargers guide has a few recommendations, but there are so many more great docking systems for Apple devices. After years of testing, these are our favorites.

Be sure to read our other buying guides , including Best MagSafe Accessories , Best iPhone 15 Cases , Best iPhone , Best Apple Watch , and Best Wireless Earbuds .

Updated September 2023: We added chargers from Anker, Nomad, Andi, Twelve South, ESR, Belkin, and Wasserstein, and updated prices.

A Quick Primer on MagSafe

Most of the wireless chargers in this guide are MagSafe wireless chargers . That means they take advantage of the magnets embedded in the back of the iPhone 12 , iPhone 13 , iPhone 14 , and iPhone 15 range . I cannot stress this enough: If you buy a case, make sure it is a MagSafe case . We have several third-party options in the linked guides above. A normal case will weaken the pull of the magnets in the iPhone and will not stick to MagSafe accessories well.

What's the point of MagSafe? You don't have to worry about misalignment with the wireless charger, meaning you won't wake up to a dead iPhone. Technically, this perfect alignment means chargers are also able to provide faster 15-watt charging, but Apple has restricted this perk to a small number of products from select brands. MagSafe is available in the AirPods as well (depending on your model ). Apple's AirPods and AirPods Pro with the wireless charging case will work with nearly all of the standard Qi wireless charging pads on these chargers (as will many third-party wireless earbuds ), but if you have AirPods with MagSafe, then you can hook it up to the magnetic mounts as well. If you don't have a MagSafe iPhone, then your device won't be able to attach to these chargers, though we do have some recommendations for older iPhones (and the iPhone SE ).

Best Overall

This classy chrome charging tree suspends two of your Apple gadgets in midair, and the relatively compact T-shaped design won't take up much room on your desk or nightstand. It can recharge your iPhone at the fastest 15-watt charging speed Apple allows, and it can also fast-charge the Apple Watch Series 7 or newer (not the SE). Drop the AirPods Pro (or AirPods with wireless charging case) onto the base and you'll be topping up all these devices from a single outlet. Everything sits securely in place, and you can even flip your iPhone into landscape orientation to watch a video while it charges. Belkin also sells a version as a pad if you don't want to have your devices propped vertically.

Best for Standby

Apple has a new feature in iOS 17 called Standby , which turns the iPhone into a clock on your nightstand with weather information when you put it in landscape orientation on a wireless charger. (The screen dims if you have an iPhone with an always-on display; if not, you can tap the screen to see the time.) Twelve South's 3-in-1 is an elegant wireless charger for the nightstand and gives the iPhone plenty of breathing room to rotate it to landscape mode and take advantage of Standby. It's Made for iPhone (MFi) certified, so it'll recharge your handset at the fastest 15-watt speed possible. I also like that the iPhone charger can swivel up and down, so you can better position the angle of your phone screen.

On the base is a fast charger for the Apple Watch that you can flip up or charge flat, and the back has a spot for the AirPods or another wireless earbuds case. It's nice and weighty and doesn't slide around easily. It comes with a proprietary and removable charging cable that runs into the base, as well as a charging brick, and Twelve South also includes international plug adapters for the US, UK, EU, and AU if you want to take it on your travels.

Folks seeking something a little more compact for the nightstand will appreciate this solid aluminum 3-in-1 charging station from Otterbox. It can charge all your Apple gadgets at top speed and comes with a 6.6-foot cable and a 36-watt wall charger. The MagSafe pad holds your iPhone securely, and there is a pad on the weighted base for AirPods. The integrated Apple Watch charger allows for Nightstand mode, but it is the weak link here, and I sometimes find that my Series 8 twists slightly. It doesn’t shift enough to prevent charging, but it could be a problem, especially if you have an Ultra or favor a heavy band for your Apple Watch. If you fancy this, make sure you get the correct version, because Otterbox also offers a cheaper 3-in-1 with a slot for Apple Watch charging around the back, which we don’t recommend.

Best 3-in-1 Pad

It's pricey, but this 3-in-1 charging pad from Nomad feels like you have to place it near a Steinway grand piano. If you want your iPhone out of sight and out of mind when you place it on a charger, a pad is the way to go—the MagSafe charger officially supports 15 watts to recharge your iPhone at the fastest speeds possible. The Apple Watch charging puck sticks up, so you can take advantage of Nightstand mode and see the time. However, this is not a fast charger, so your smartwatch won't juice up as quickly. No matter if you have a loop band or a normal strap, I was able to fit the AirPods Pro in the spot behind the Apple Watch puck to recharge it just fine.

The metal chassis is heavy and, paired with the anti-slip rubber base, this thing stays put. It comes with a 2-meter USB-C to USB-C cable, which is great if you want to plug it into your new iPhone 15 to juice it up faster, but I wish it came with a 30-watt charging adapter. Nomad sells this one that we've tested and like. I do want to point out that since this is a pad, you can still charge non-MagSafe devices wirelessly on it, making it a nice option if you're on an older iPhone.

Best for Older iPhones

Are you rocking an older iPhone without MagSafe support? This 3-in-1 charging stand is a sound alternative to the Belkin. The upright magnetic puck for the Apple Watch enables Nightstand mode (basically, a digital clock), and the center stand lets you place your iPhone vertically or horizontally. There’s also an indented spot for earbud cases, ensuring they won't slide off easily. An elegant glass finish lends it a classy look and feel.

Mophie 3in1 travel charger kit

Best for Travel

I took this little travel kit with me when I went to cover the Apple event in 2022, and it worked flawlessly. It comes with a felt carrying case that also includes a charging brick and USB-C cable. Take out the square-shaped stack and unfold it to find three wireless chargers in one elongated pad. The iPhone sticks magnetically to the center and charges at the fastest 15-watt rate, and you can pop up the Apple Watch dock to use Nightstand mode (sadly, no fast charging for the smartwatch). There's a grooved spot for the AirPods on the left. It feels great, is compact, and is pretty lightweight all around.

Anker 737 MagGo Charger

Another Nice 3-in-1

After a few weeks on the nightstand, I’m in no rush to replace Anker’s 737. This MagSafe 3-in-1 is sturdy and holds my iPhone 14 Pro securely. The option to charge in landscape makes it a nice way to take advantage of the new StandBy mode in iOS 17 that turns your iPhone into a bedside clock. However, the iPhone does block easy access to the Apple Watch from the front in this orientation. It can fast-charge at 15 watts and comes with a power adapter and cable.

The slight magnetic pull on the AirPods pad, which is on the inside of the triangle, helps with getting it in the right spot to recharge. However, it can be hard to grab the AirPods out of there, especially if you have an AirPods case . I just shove a finger in from the other direction and push it out. The only slight disappointment is the Apple Watch charger, which doesn’t support fast charging, so this is not a good pick for Apple Watch Ultra owners. It also lays flat, so doesn’t play nice with Nightstand mode, though that’s not such a big deal when you can use StandBy on your iPhone.

Anker 3in1 Cube with MagSafe Charger

Most Compact

You cannot get more compact than this dinky, dense, 2.5-inch cube from Anker. It has a MagSafe pad on top that charges at up to 15 watts, and the whole top section hinges to a 60-degree angle, revealing a charging surface for your AirPods. The wee pop-out shelf on the side has a built-in Apple Watch charger. It also supports fast charging and can comfortably accommodate any Apple Watch, including the Ultra, though the fact that it sits flat makes it less than ideal for Nightstand mode. Anker says you can fit it in your pocket, and while that is technically true, this is a heavy metal cube, so slinging it in a bag will be much more comfortable. You get a 5-foot cable and a 30-watt charger in the box.

Belkin BoostCharge Pro 2in1 charger

Best 2-in-1 Stand

Don't have an Apple Watch? No problem. This elegant 2-in-1 stand can recharge your iPhone and AirPods (or other wireless earbuds with wireless charging support). It comes in black or white with a metal post that connects the weighted base to the MagSafe charger. It can fast-charge your iPhone and hold it in portrait or landscape orientation (great for StandBy ). It is easy to grab my iPhone 14 Pro off this stand one-handed without tipping it over. There’s a circular indent at the front for charging your AirPods. The included power adapter plugs into the base via a barrel port.

Anker 633 MagGo portable charger

A Built-In Battery Pack

Another great dual charger for your AirPods and iPhone, this Anker device packs in additional functionality. The Anker MagGo 633 lets you magnetically attach an iPhone to the stand, but you can then pop the stand off and it turns into a 5,000-mAh power bank. It will stay on the back of your iPhone in your bag or pocket. When you're back home, slide it onto the dock and pop your earbuds on the base to refuel. If you like the idea, check out our Best MagSafe Power Banks guide for more options.

Zens 4in1 charger for Apple devices

A 4-in-1 Stand

If you own an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods, there is a decent chance you might have an iPad too, so why not a 4-in-1 charging station? Zens offers a modular design, with a main stand for your iPad, a MagSafe pad in front to float your iPhone, and a slight indentation to charge AirPods below. The Apple Watch charger is a separate section that attaches magnetically (on either side) and holds your Watch in horizontal Nightstand mode, which looks slightly better than vertical. It feels durable with a grippy, rubbery, flecked black finish made from recycled plastic.

You get a 65-watt power adapter, power cable, and adapter plugs for the US, UK, and EU, which is quite handy. The main drawback with this is the large size, and you have to connect a cable to the USB-C port on the side to charge your iPad.

ESR HaloLock 3in1 Travel Charger and accessories

A Budget Travel Alternative

This travel kit from ESR is a good alternative if you want something that can prop your iPhone in portrait or landscape orientation. It can also display your Apple Watch in Nightstand mode, so you can peek and see how long before you must get out of bed. The main body folds open with a MagSafe charging pad for your iPhone and a slot behind for your AirPods. There’s also a USB-C port to plug the included Apple Watch charger into, though you need to turn it backward to use Nightstand mode (I did this and it worked fine). It is weird and slightly jarring that the Watch charger is white, since everything else is black.

It folds neatly, and ESR provides a faux leather padded pouch to store everything (power adapter and cable included). I worry slightly about losing the Apple watch charger cover, but it is magnetic and sticks to the top for safekeeping. Unfortunately, this charger does not support fast charging and is limited to 7.5 watts for the iPhone and 5 watts for the Apple Watch. But, hey, it's much cheaper than most of the other options in this guide.

Wasserstein 3in1 Charging Station

A 3-in-1 for Fitbit Fans

What if you have an iPhone and AirPods, but prefer a Fitbit to the Apple Watch? This 3-in-1 from Wasserstein has you covered. There are Lightning or USB-C plugs to slot your AirPods and iPhone onto plus a built-in charger for your Fitbit on a small extended platform. The iPhone and Fitbit are both angled for easy glancing (though you are stuck with a portrait view for the iPhone). I worry slightly about wear and tear on the ports here—be careful when sliding your devices on or off—but the advantage is that you get wired charging speeds. Just make sure you get the correct version. For the iPhone 15, you’ll want the USB-C station .

Honorable Mentions

We have tested several other multi-device wireless charging stations for Apple devices. Here are a few we liked:

  • Satechi 3-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand for $120 : This 3-in-1 requires you to supply your own 20-watt power adapter ( this is a good one if you don't have one already), and it won't recharge your iPhone or Apple Watch at the fastest speeds possible. That's still totally fine if you usually only juice up your gadgets overnight. It's a little smaller than the Belkin, so it won't take too much room, and the aluminum build looks attractive (the iPhone mount is made of stainless steel). You can pop off the Apple Watch charger and take it on the go—just plug the USB-C end into any charger, power bank , or even laptop with the port to recharge your smartwatch.
  • Case-Mate Fuel 3-in-1 Foldable for $150 : Finished in a classy gray material, this 3-in-1 charges an iPhone in a case or any Qi smartphone, and it's easy to fold flat and pack in a bag. It also has a built-in Apple Watch charger and a spot for AirPods. A cable and 45-watt charger are included. I also tested the solid Case-Mate Fuel 4-in-1 ($150) , which is quite good, but the unnecessary LEDs and Fuel logo put me off.
  • iOttie Velox Duo for $60 : This was our 2-in-1 pick for a while. The black and gold combo looks great, the magnet is strong, and there’s a weighted base. On the downside, it only charges iPhones at up to 7.5 watts. The permanently attached USB-C cable is a good length, but you do have to provide your own adapter.
  • Twelve South HiRise 3 Wireless Charging Stand for $100 : Our previous compact pick, this 3-in-1 is a space saver. There's an angled MagSafe perch for your iPhone, a shelf up top for your Apple Watch, and a spot for your AirPods underneath. It's a compact design that makes it easy to glance at your iPhone, though this means you can't utilize the Nightstand mode of your Apple Watch. It comes with a 5-foot USB-C cable, but you do need to provide your own power adapter ( 20 watts or above ).
  • RapidX Boosta 5-in-1 Charging Stand for $50 : This is a lot like Anker’s MagGo 633. It’s a charging stand designed to charge a MagSafe Boosta battery pack (sold separately), which you can stick a MagSafe iPhone onto. You can also charge AirPods on the base, and there’s a spare USB-C port for something else, but I don’t understand why they call it 5-in-1.
  • RapidX Modula 5 Modular Wireless Charging System for $40 : This modular system was a great space saver on my last vacation. The pads slot together magnetically and offer up to 10-watt charging for phones (I also used one to charge my AirPods with the wireless charging case), and there’s a special pad for the Apple Watch with a puck that can lie flat or pop up to accommodate Nightstand mode.
  • Anker 623 MagGo 2-in-1 Wireless Charger for $50 : This cylinder-shaped charging station has a flip-up phone platform with space to charge AirPods on top. It’s compact, comes in three colors (I recommend purple), and has the cable and adapter you need in the box.
  • Courant Mag:2 Classics 2-in-1 Wireless Charger for $150 : It's way too expensive for what you get, but it's attractive and is made with fancy materials, like Italian-sourced leather. Attach your iPhone to the top MagSafe charger and you can put it in landscape or horizontal orientation. The base has another charger for your earbuds, though I was able to juice up another iPhone as well. Choose the Mag:2 Essentials for an equally luxurious linen material (and a lower price).
  • OtterBox 2-in-1 Charging Station with MagSafe for $130 : This charger combines an adjustable MagSafe pad for your iPhone or AirPods with a horizontal puck for your Apple Watch. It is solidly made but expensive, and I found it didn't work with every cable and adapter I tried (you have to supply an adapter).
  • ESR HaloLock 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with CryoBoost for $55 : Silly name aside, this is attractively priced and includes a power adapter and cable. You can turn off the light and fan when you’re trying to sleep. But it only charges iPhones at 7.5 watts, and the Apple Watch charger isn’t included. The 2-in-1 version minus the Apple Watch slot is $10 cheaper and looks better.
  • Andi Be Free 3-in-1 Charger for $100 : This is an elegant and space-saving design for a non-MagSafe charger—good for older iPhones. However, you don't get any fast charging capabilities for any devices.
  • Mophie Snap+ 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Stand for $95 : Another 3-in-1 that does the job, Mophie’s Snap+ has an adjustable stand for your iPhone, a space for AirPods, and a plastic ring to insert your own Apple Watch or Galaxy Smartwatch charger into. It works, but it feels and looks a bit cheap, especially when there’s nothing on it.

STM Goods ChargeTree Go charging station

Avoid These

Not every charger will be a winner. Here are the ones we didn't like.

  • STM Goods ChargeTree Go for $120 : This charging tree station folds flat and can charge a trio of Apple gadgets. But there’s no quick-charge support, my Apple Watch kept sliding out of place during the night, and there’s no adapter included. It’s not cheap either.
  • Excitrus Magnetic Wireless Charging Station for $30 : I didn't really like this charger, but it works fine and it's dirt cheap. You can charge your iPhone and AirPods on it and use the spare USB-A port at the back to plug in an Apple Watch charger (or something else). The magnet is a little weak (use a MagSafe case!), it has a pointless light-up ring, and the build quality is a little suspect. But with the cable and adapter included, it’s hard to beat the value.

The best magnetic chargers for your MagSafe iPhone

Making sense of apple’s messy magsafe charging ecosystem, where the first-party options are far from the best..

An illustration of repeating magnetic charging pucks and magnetic power banks, tiled across a dark blue background with a subtle lightning bolt pattern.

Wireless charging is inefficient in many ways. It charges your phone more slowly than using a cable, uses more energy, and requires near-perfect alignment on a charging pad to even work. But inefficiencies aside, it’s just so dang convenient. So when Apple added a ring of magnets to the iPhone 12 and dubbed it “MagSafe,” things got much more interesting. Not only do the magnets guarantee perfect alignment every time but also, with a MagSafe-certified charger, your iPhone can charge at up to 15W — double the 7.5W they get with other wireless chargers. And the magnets also allow for nifty accessories, like car mounts and detachable card wallets.

Now, the next version of Qi, imaginatively named Qi2, will incorporate a ring of magnets around the charging coil, similar to MagSafe. It should enable wireless charging at up to 15W, even on iPhones, without official MagSafe certification . However, there are no Qi2-certified devices yet — even Apple’s website lists “future Qi2 support” for the iPhone 15 — and we don’t expect any before November. So while Apple’s wireless charging ecosystem is still a little messy (even with the iPhone 15 being the fourth generation of MagSafe phones and now featuring USB-C wired charging), perhaps things may get a little easier in the future once we’re fully in the Qi2 era.

In the meantime, it can be confusing to figure out whether a charger is “with MagSafe” (Apple’s phrase meaning real 15W MagSafe) or just compatible with MagSafe (read: a basic Qi charger with magnets slapped on). But the options on offer now — official and otherwise — are mostly pretty good. We’ve found the best MagSafe and MagSafe-compatible wireless chargers for your iPhone. Because once you go magnetic, it just starts to feel pragmatic.

What we’re looking for

Charging speed.

Is it official MagSafe with up to 15W charging or just magnetic Qi with up to 7.5W? For overnight charging, magnetic Qi is fine.

Convenience

Does it include the AC adapter? Is the cable long enough? Can it charge more than one device?

Portability

Does the charger travel easily, or is it more likely to live in one spot and never move?

Is it janky or refined? Does it have clever design elements or bonus features?

Sadly, most MagSafe chargers are kinda pricey. Does this charger offer a better value than most, or at least justify its price?

The best MagSafe charger for most people

An iPhone propped up horizontally by the kickstand of a Belkin MagSafe charger on a table with a prop skeleton sitting in a chair and looking at the phone.

Belkin BoostCharge Pro with MagSafe

Belkin’s BoostCharge Pro with MagSafe supports 15W fast wireless charging with MagSafe-compatible iPhones and has a lengthy 6.6-foot built-in cable. Its 15W charging speeds and little kickstand make the BoostCharge Pro with MagSafe the best all-purpose magnetic charging puck.

Official MagSafe: Yes / Wireless charge output: 15W / Cable length: 6.5ft (2m) / Connector type: USB-C / Warranty: Two years

Belkin’s BoostCharge Pro with MagSafe is around $10 more (at full price) than Apple’s own MagSafe Charger , but it outclasses the Apple puck in nearly every way. It’s the only other magnetic charging puck “with MagSafe,” which means it has the same 15W wireless fast charging as Apple’s charger, instead of being limited to 7.5W. But the BoostCharge Pro has a 6.5-foot (two-meter) braided cable — twice as long as Apple’s — and it includes a fold-out kickstand to prop your iPhone up in landscape orientation for watching or playing stuff as you charge.

Left to right: Belkin BoostCharge Pro with MagSafe; Belkin BoostCharge (7.5W); Courant Mag:1; Anker 313; and Apple MagSafe Charger. Notice how prohibitively short Apple’s cable is.

Since this charger came out, it’s become vanishingly difficult to see why you’d buy Apple’s own MagSafe Charger. Okay, Apple’s charger is sometimes cheaper, about 10mm thinner, and a little sleeker — fine. But it’s also hamstrung by a terribly short cable: at just 3.28ft / 1m, it feels like you’re on a short leash to your wall outlet if you want to use the phone as it charges, and it’s not long enough to reach a wall outlet from any furniture taller than a small nightstand. The Belkin BoostCharge Pro with MagSafe fixes the Apple puck’s biggest issue, and if you want that 15W charging, it makes sense to spend the extra money on the longer cable. (If you don’t need the 15W charging — say, for overnight charging — you can get a magnetic charger with a longer cable for much less money, but more on that in the next section.)

Apple’s MagSafe Charger does go on sale from time to time for around $30 or less — creating a bigger price delta between it and the BoostCharge Pro. But frankly, it’d have to be much cheaper for me to recommend it over this Belkin without slightly gritting my teeth. Make sure you also get a quality 20W USB-C power adapter — neither Belkin nor Apple pucks come with their own.

Best for overnight charging

Anker 313 Magnetic Wireless Charger

This Anker magnetic charging puck has a five-foot USB-C cable and wirelessly charges an iPhone at up to 7.5W.

Official MagSafe: No / Wireless charge output: 7.5W / Cable length: 5ft (1.5m) / Connector type: USB-C / Warranty: 18 months

belkin apple travel charger

Belkin BoostCharge Magnetic Wireless charger (with power supply)

Belkin’s BoostCharge Magnetic Wireless charging puck can charge a MagSafe-compatible iPhone at a respectable 7.5W speed. Its lengthy USB-C cable also ensures you’ll have enough slack to use your phone while charging.

Official MagSafe: No / Wireless charge output: 7.5W / Cable length: 6ft (1.8m) / Connector type: USB-C / Warranty: Two years

You don’t need to pay the extra money for a MagSafe-certified charger if you mostly charge overnight. Unless you’re getting a dangerously low amount of sleep every night, your phone is going to be topped off by morning regardless of which charger you use. In fact, even if you use a 15W MagSafe charger for overnight charging, your iPhone will automatically slow its charge speed to finish charging a little bit before you need it.

So unless you plan to use the same charger for both quick top-ups and overnight charging, you can save money by buying either the Anker 313 Magnetic Wireless Charger or the standard Belkin BoostCharge Magnetic Wireless charger . These non-MagSafe magnetic chargers charge iPhones at the same 7.5W rate as any other Qi wireless charger, and they both work just fine. The Belkin has a six-foot cable, but the Anker has a slightly thinner charging pad and its five-foot wire is adequate for most situations.

If you primarily charge your phone overnight, save your money

What makes both of these exceptional is their value: you can pick up either puck for under $25 with a 20W USB-C power adapter or about $15 without one. They’re affordable enough that you can justify one (or more) even if you also own a fancier MagSafe charger for when you actually need the speed.

Anker’s basic 313 charger is a very affordable way to get the job done for overnight magnetic wireless charging.

You’ll thank me when you can pick up your phone from your bedside table for your nightly doomscrolling without yanking the cable out of the wall. (Wait, I mean your in-bed guided meditation and breathing exercises.)

The best MagSafe charger for travel

belkin apple travel charger

Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe

Mophie’s 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe unfolds to wirelessly charge a MagSafe-compatible iPhone, an Apple Watch charger, and a pair of AirPods all at the same time. It comes with a 30W power adapter, USB-C to USB-C cable, and a fabric travel pouch.

Official MagSafe: Yes / Wireless charge output: 15W / Apple Watch fast charging: No / Cable length: 3.5ft (1.07m) / Connector type: USB-C / Warranty: Two years

Any charger can travel, but that doesn’t mean it travels well . The Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe opens like a trifold wallet to charge your phone, Apple Watch, and AirPods all at once. It’s pricey at $149.95, but it’s an all-in-one travel solution: its folding multicharger pad, 30W power adapter, and USB-C cable all pack into a soft fabric carrying case.

Mophie’s 3-in-1 Travel Charger is a great all-in-one package for frequent flyers.

It’s hard to overstate how handy this Mophie charger is if you travel with any frequency. I’m the type that stresses endlessly when packing for a big trip, and knowing I had all my charging essentials in this little gray satchel gave me a small sense of calm — like having a fully prepacked toiletry bag.

And since this charger actually supports MagSafe charging speeds, it’s good for quick top-ups when you’re only back at your hotel for a short break. You can also squeeze a short USB-C to Lightning cable into the carrying case with the other accessories so you always have slightly faster 20W wired charging on reserve in an emergency.

Mophie’s 3-in-1 Travel Charger when folded may be thicker than Apple’s MagSafe Duo, but when unfolded, it charges an extra device.

While Apple’s MagSafe Duo charger takes up even less space in your travel bag — it’s about half as thick as the Mophie — it only charges up to two devices at once. The $129 Duo also costs about the same or more once you factor in a 20W USB-C power adapter and carrying case, both of which the Mophie package covers.

If you don’t need simultaneous AirPods charging, the $99 Zens 2-in-1 MagSafe + Watch travel charger is a better buy than the MagSafe Duo. The Zens is a smallish folding charger that supports full 15W MagSafe on one side, charges an Apple Watch on the other, and has the added bonus of functioning as a little kickstand for your phone. I much prefer the Zens to the Apple Duo, unless you really prefer the way the Duo arranges your phone and watch side by side.

My only gripe with the Mophie 3-in-1 and Zens 2-in-1 travel chargers, aside from their high prices, is that, like Apple’s MagSafe Duo, they lift up from a table as you disconnect your phone — so you have to hold it down with another finger as you pull away from the magnets. That’s far from a deal-breaker, but be wary that trying to snooze an early alarm while severely jet-lagged could send your AirPods and Apple Watch crashing down to a hotel room floor.

The best MagSafe 3-in-1 stand for home

The black version of Belkin’s BoostCharge Pro with MagSafe sitting on a cluttered desk.

Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger with MagSafe

Belkin’s triple charging stand achieves 15W MagSafe wireless iPhone charging speeds and keeps your phone and Apple Watch elevated for easy reading.

Official MagSafe: Yes / Wireless charge output: 15W / Apple Watch fast charging: Yes, on 2022 revised model / Cable length: 4.8ft (1.47m) / Connector type: barrel (AC adapter) / Warranty: Two years

Belkin’s BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 MagSafe charging stand is another pricey solution for charging your iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods all at once. But what makes this quirky modern art-like magnetic tree especially good is its MagSafe 15W charging, Apple Watch fast-charge support (for the Series 7, Series 8, and Ultra), and the fact that it puts your phone and watch at a readable level on a desk or table — which is ideal for iOS 17’s StandBy mode , turning your phone into a small smart display with on-screen info like a nifty clock / calendar widget.

In fact, the spacing of the phone and watch above the bottom 5W Qi pad means you can fit a whole other phone down there — making this stand especially good if you have a mixed iPhone / Android household and want to share a little of the wireless charging love.

Belkin’s BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charger charging a phone, an Apple smartwatch, and a pair of AirPods on a desk.

The Belkin tree is built solidly, with enough weight to prevent your phone or watch from tugging or toppling the whole thing over when removing them. My biggest gripes with it are the high price of $149.99 and the fact that its traditional 12V AC adapter with built-in cable seems larger than it needs to be compared to much smaller USB-C power adapters used by other chargers. Though, since you’re most likely planting this tree in one spot of your home and not moving around with it, the wall wart is mostly forgivable.

The most versatile MagSafe multicharger for home and travel

belkin apple travel charger

Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe

Anker’s cube-shaped triple charger is very compact but achieves 15W MagSafe charging speeds with compatible iPhones. It can also simultaneously charge an Apple Watch and a set of AirPods.

Official MagSafe: Yes / Wireless charge output: 15W / Apple Watch fast charging: Yes / Cable length: 5ft (1.5m) / Connector type: USB-C / Warranty: 18 months

Anker’s 3-in-1 Cube is its first to support proper 15W MagSafe charging (not simply magnetic Qi), and its nifty compact design makes it an excellent jack-of-all-trades for both home and travel use. It charges your phone in an angled position, with just enough space behind it to wirelessly charge your AirPods, plus a slide-out side drawer for your Apple Watch. I’m happy to see that Anker took the tilt-top design of its cute little soda can 623 MagGo 2-in-1 charger and turned it into an even better 3-in-1. Sadly, in addition to being more angular and much less adorable, it got much more expensive in the process; it costs $149.95 and is only available from Apple or directly from Anker . That means the Cube may not get the frequent discounts we see on Anker products at Amazon or elsewhere.

Technically, it’s a rectangular prism, not a cube

The price is a bit alarming, but $149.99 seems to be the going rate for MagSafe 3-in-1s. It comes with a 30W USB-C power adapter, and its pop-out Apple Watch charger supports fast charging on compatible models. The charger itself is about the size of a Rubik’s Cube, though it’s slightly taller than it is wide or deep. (Yes, I regret to inform any of you sticklers that the Cube is technically a rectangular prism, not a cube.) Mathematics heresy aside, it feels about as compact as this design can be.

You can’t get much smaller than Anker’s 3-in-1 Cube for charging an iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch with one device.

The Anker isn’t quite as good for travel as the fold-up Mophie 3-in-1, and the Belkin tree thing is a better 3-in-1 for home use if you like that elevated height and versatile second Qi spot. But Anker’s Cube is the second-best MagSafe multicharger for home use and travel, which makes it the most versatile option if you travel occasionally and want a single 3-in-1 charger that does it all.

The best MagSafe-compatible battery pack

Anker’s 621 Magnetic Battery (MagGo) holding up an iPhone with its kickstand on a desk.

Anker 622 Magnetic Battery (MagGo)

A portable power bank with magnetic wireless Qi charging, a convenient folding kickstand, and a USB-C port for wired charging. The original model has its USB-C port on the bottom, while a revised version has it on the side to allow passthrough wireless charging while the phone is propped up on the stand.

Official MagSafe: No / Wireless charge output: 7.5W / Cell capacity: 19.25Wh (5,000mAh) / Connector type: USB-C / Warranty: 2 years

I tested a whole bunch of magnetic battery packs. They were all fine. The MagSafe-compatible options from Anker , Mophie , and Belkin all worked well enough for standard 7.5W wireless iPhone charging, and you’d probably be a-okay picking whichever one works for your tastes when it comes to price, physical size (some are chonky), and battery capacity. It’s nice to have a battery that clicks onto the back of your phone without worrying about cables.

I recommend Anker’s 622 Magnetic Battery (MagGo) over the others I tested — even Apple’s now discontinued MagSafe Battery Pack — because it strikes the right balance of portability and battery capacity. It’s barely larger than the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack, but its 19.25Wh cell is nearly double the capacity of Apple’s 11.13Wh. It supports passthrough charging while it’s plugged in, and its built-in origami kickstand is a handy addition that doesn’t add much bulk. The fold-out stand is even strong enough to support a hefty Max-sized iPhone in a protective case, and if you get the revised Anker 622 that now features a side-mounted USB-C port, you can do passthrough charging with your phone propped up at an angle on your desk. Lastly, the Anker’s battery comes in some fun colors to match your phone — or at least stand out among your other accessories.

Anker’s 622 MagGo battery is barely bigger than Apple’s own MagSafe Battery Pack (left) and holds much more juice.

Compared to the Anker 622, Apple’s kinda terrible MagSafe Battery Pack has very little going for it. Sure, it’s a little smaller, and its tight iOS integration lets it show its exact battery percentage on your lock screen, which the Anker doesn’t offer. But it’s mostly for top-ups: the meager battery could never fully recharge my iPhone 12 Pro Max that I was testing it with. It doesn’t even charge your phone any faster than the Anker since Apple limits it to 7.5W when on the go. That’s baffling for a $99 battery pack.

If you want true 15W MagSafe charging from a power bank, you can get the Mophie Powerstation 10K stand with MagSafe for $129.95. It’s expensive, awkwardly chonky, and rimmed with cheap-feeling soft-touch rubber that may not age well, but it can reach 15W wireless charging without the assistance of a power plug. Plus, the Mophie’s sturdy metal stand means it could be your desktop charging base that you can fold up and take with you on the go.

Other MagSafe and magnetic chargers worth considering

While the ones above are the best, here are some more options that are still perfectly fine:

  • Apple MagSafe Duo charger : Much like the ill-fated MagSafe Battery Pack, Apple’s MagSafe Duo was discontinued after the iPhone 15 made the switch to USB-C. It was a decent, albeit pricey, two-in-one travel charger for an iPhone and an Apple Watch. But at this point, I only advise getting a Duo if it’s on a significant clearance sale. Otherwise, spend more to get the Mophie 3-in-1 or a little less and get the Zens 2-in-1 .
  • Courant Mag:1 Essentials / Classics : Sometimes having something a little “premium” is just, well, nice. Courant’s magnetic charging pucks don’t get you MagSafe speeds, but for $50 to $80 (discounted to as low as $40) and without a USB-C AC charger, you get a sleek design wrapped in soft linen material or posh leather. It’s totally unnecessary, but if you want your tech to not be an eyesore to your home decor, I think they’re totally justifiable. Plus, the Mag:1 has a lengthy six-foot cable.
  • Courant Mag:2 Essentials / Classics : Courant’s same elevated formula but this time in a 2-in-1 charger for your phone and earbuds. If you’re the type that obsesses over mid-century modern stylings like hairpin legs and Eames chairs, here’s your (non-MagSafe) magnetic charger. It’s even sold at the Herman Miller store — need I say more?
  • Nomad Base One Max and Base One Max 3-in-1 : Speaking of premium, the $150 Nomad Base One Max offers full MagSafe charging support and a built-in Apple Watch charger in a sleek and minimalist metal slab, while the newer 3-in-1 version also accommodates a set of wirelessly charging AirPods for just $20 more. I love these as bedside chargers because they’re so hefty that your phone lifts right off without shifting either base even a millimeter. You could also use one as an improvised weapon against any would-be intruders since they’re nearly two whole pounds of metal! Melee combat preparedness aside, though, if you’re going to spend the money on a fancy-looking Nomad, you should probably just get the 3-in-1.
  • Nomad Stand and Nomad Base : Nomad’s cheaper Stand and Base chargers offer MagSafe-compatible 7.5W charging instead of proper 15W MagSafe like its other models, all for the sake of reaching lower prices of $80 and $70, respectively. Both are well-built with some slick, minimal good looks in all-white and all-black (thankfully no bright-white MagSafe pad to ruin the aesthetics of the latter). And while they may still be a little pricey for single-device chargers, you may find it worth it for the looks.
  • Anker 637 Magnetic Charging Station (MagGo) : Ponder the almighty charging orb and all you can potentially plug into it. The Anker 637 is like a weird amalgamation of a magnetic charging stand and a power strip — it has the magnetic Qi charger, two USB-C ports, four USB-A ports, and three AC ports. The Qi charger and USB ports can output up to about 65W combined; you can charge up to seven devices at the same time (not counting the AC ports) or plug in a lone USB-C cable and get up to 65W of power — enough to power even some smaller MacBook Pros. If you think you can find a good use for the Anker 637 in your space, just buy it. It’s super handy and there’s nothing else quite like it. Then email me and teach me the ways of your cable management skills because I always end up turning this thing into a spaghetti monster of cords.
  • Anker 623 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charger (MagGo) : This charger’s real name is terrible, so you should just call it the soda can. As mentioned above, Anker’s soda can is like the precursor to its excellent new 3-in-1 Cube, but it’s much cheaper and does a fine job charging your phone at 7.5W alongside a set of earbuds. Just keep in mind that, if you use it on your bedside table, it will briefly light up your dark room with an obnoxious LED when you put your phone on it to charge.

Other chargers tested include the Nomad Stand One , Twelve South HiRise 3 , Mophie Snap Plus Wireless Charger with 3-in-1 Wireless Stand for MagSafe Charger , and various Mophie Snap Plus Juice Pack power banks. These did not make the cut for various reasons, and the recommendations above present better alternatives.

Apple MagSafe Duo Vs. Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger: A MagSafe iPhone Charger Showdown

Both are great — but it’s time to put them in the ring against one another.

The ideal travel charger for an iPhone user has to do a few simple things. First, it has to fully support MagSafe , so that wirelessly charges your iPhone (assuming it’s an iPhone 12 or later) as fast as possible, at up to 15 watts. Second, it has to be able to wirelessly charge our other Apple devices, because we don’t travel just with our iPhones. And third, it has to fold up nice and compact, so that it’s easier to pack.

Best Travel Charger for Apple Enthusiasts

Best All-in-One Travel Charger for iPhone

And there are really only two travel chargers that check those three boxes: Apple’s MagSafe Duo ($129) and Mophie’s 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe ($150) .

Both of these travel chargers can wirelessly charge multiple devices, they fully support MagSafe, and they both fold up nicely. The kicker is: Apple sells both. So what’s the difference? And which one is best?

two iphones on a desk

Mophie’s travel charger can charge more devices

wireless travel charger

The most obvious difference between Apple’s and Mophie’s travel chargers is the number of devices that they can charge. The MagSafe Duo can only charge two devices at a time, an iPhone and an Apple Watch or the new AirPods Pro; Mophie’s travel charger, meanwhile, can charge three. It has an extra Qi wireless charger specifically fitted for AirPods (so long as their case supports wireless charging).

Unfortunately, neither of these travel chargers has an extra ports for a wired charging connection (in case you wanted to charge a device the traditional non-wireless way). Also, neither can fast charge an Apple Watch (Series 7 or later) as they don’t have the updated charging puck. Which is a bit of a bummer.

Mophie’s travel charger comes with a wall adapter; Apple’s doesn’t

wireless travel charger

Another big difference between the two travel chargers is that Apple doesn’t include the necessarily wall adapter for it to work right out of the box. This isn’t an uncommon trait for the brand, as it’s part of a lot of big tech’s environmental initiative; Apple thinks people already have enough wall adapters at home, so a lot of today’s smartphones, headphones and other gadgets don’t come with one. Apple recommends pairing it with a 20-watt USB-C adapter — the same one used with an iPad Pro or iPad Air — which is going to cost you an extra $19.

Mophie includes a 30-watt USB-C adapter in the box with its travel charger, which is nice. It also evens the price between the two travel chargers; if you have to buy the wall adapter for the MagSafe Duo, then the two travel chargers are almost the exact same price.

Mophie’s travel charger comes with a carrying case

wireless travel charger

That’s right. As well as including the wall adapter, Mophie also includes a neat little travel case with little compartments to hold the charger, the cable (USB-C to USB-C) and the wall adapter. It’s made out of this felt material that looks and feels really nice (even if it is a little bit of a magnet for lint and pet hair).

All in all, it’s just a really simple yet thoughtful solution for keeping all your travel charger’s necessary components together. The MagSafe Duo, meanwhile, doesn’t come with any kind of travel case.

Apple’s travel charger feels a bit more premium

wireless travel charger

Both Apple’s and Mophie’s travel chargers feel well-made. They’re made out of soft-touch materials, and magnetically fold together in a way that feels really tight and neat. However, Apple just does it ever-so-better with the MagSafe Duo.

It has a stronger magnetic connection when it folds in on itself (not holding the iPhone via MagSafe, where the strength is about the same for both), and the silicone-like material feels a bit nicer. Also, when you open Mophie’s travel charger up, the inside is made plastic and is flimsy; it just feels a little less premium.

So, which MagSafe travel charger for iPhone is best?

wireless travel charger

Admittedly, there is no clear winner here — as it ultimately comes down to your personal taste and what you need. Mophie’s travel charger is probably the better value, even if it’s a little more expensive; the fact that it comes with the necessary power adapter more than makes up for that price difference, plus it can charge one extra device comes the carrying case is an unnecessary but more-than-welcome addition.

If you’re an Apple enthusiast, however, the MagSafe Duo is probably still going to be your go-to travel charger. It snaps together wonderfully, and feels nicer to the touch. Plus, the fact that the newest AirPods Pro can charge on the Apple Watch puck or the MagSafe charger — so you can use whichever spot is open — means that you likely won’t care as much not having the extra wireless charger.

7 best fast chargers for all your devices in UAE, for 2024

Best buys electronics.

Recharge laptops and smartphones in minutes with powerful, speedy charging bricks

fast charging

When you purchase a new smartphone, you might notice something unusual: the box is missing a charger.

These days, companies like Samsung and Apple are deliberately excluding USB phone chargers when they sell smartphones, in an attempt to curb e-waste. One charging adapter can be used to power multiple devices, after all. So, if you already charge your tablet or laptop with a USB Type-C charger, it is likely to work just as well for your new smartphone.

But since you’re not getting one right out of the box, it’s up to you to carefully consider your options and budget, and buy a charging brick that meets your requirements.

We spoke with Rinky Rajan, product manager at Newcom (@newcommea on Instagram), a Dubai-based IT distribution company. For those who carry multiple gadgets, she advised: “A larger, multi-port charging brick is better than carrying numerous one-port bricks as they typically offer sufficient wattage power and capabilities.”

However, she cautioned that such bricks tend to be heavier, so they’re not ideal for travel. She added: “Many of these multi-port chargers do not offer the maximum charging power for larger devices, so for someone who wishes to charge their laptop with 150W power, it might be better to keep a separate laptop charger with them.”

In the market right now, there exist 18W (and under) chargers that are primarily designed for smartphones. Then, there are 20W to 30W chargers that are suitable for tablets, and 65W (or higher) chargers that can handle thin or light laptops. There are also chargers with an output of 100W or more, which can handle simultaneous charging for multiple gadgets, even high-performance laptops.

So, do you need a fast charger just for your phone, or would you use it to recharge your tablet and laptop, as well? Do you need a charging brick with many ports? Or a first-party phone charger (like the one supported by OnePlus phones), which would be much faster than standard USB power delivery?

No matter what kind of charging brick you’re looking for, our expert advised us on the best picks for you. Scroll down to read her advice. We’ve curated a list of the best options out there, right now, based on her recommendations, as well as top ratings and user reviews. Pick the one you need, with Amazon Prime and juice up all your devices as early as tomorrow.

1. Best Overall: Targus PowerElite 100W GaN Charger

  • Charge up to four devices simultaneously
  • GaN technology
  • Comes with international plugs
  • Folding prongs for portability

Rajan’s top recommendation is Targus’ PowerElite, for three reasons: “It is compact, compatible with various international plug standards, and features multiple fast-charging ports.” With two USB-C and two USB-A ports, it offers flexibility, so you don’t have to carry separate USB chargers. You can power up to four devices at once, from smartphones to laptops. The charger comes with interchangeable global plugs (UK, Europe and Asia, Australia, and the US), making it ideal for those who work on the go or frequently travel internationally. All ports are capable of fast charging. Rajan explained how Gallium nitride (GaN) impacts the charger’s performance: “[It] makes it more portable and compact than a silicone counterpart with the same charging capabilities. Replacing silicone with GaN also means that the charger preserves its lifetime (by generating less heat) and draws less power from the outlet.” Some reviewers comment, however, that the bulky plug sometimes falls out of wall sockets.

2. Best Value: Anker 735 Charger

  • Charges up to three devices at a time
  • Portable and compact
  • USB-C and USB-A compatibility
  • Can break if dropped, reviewers say

Our next-best pick is Anker 735, which is a 65W charging brick that powers up to three devices at once. With two USB-C ports for laptops and tablets, and a USB-A port for a smartphone or smartwatch, it’s a good size for the average user who would like to power up all essential devices in one go. Reviewers attest to it offering excellent value for money, since it’s light, compact, and compatible with most devices. When you connect one device, it focuses all its 65W Max power into juicing it up as quickly as possible. And when you add more devices, it uses PowerIQ 4.0 technology to detect and distribute power based on the needs of the connected device. Anker also uses GaN technology to deliver faster, more efficient charging speeds than standard power bricks, despite the charger’s compact size. Do note that some reviewers caution its prongs can bend or break if it falls, so be careful when plugging it into the socket.

3. Best 30W Charger: Belkin 30W USB-C Wall Charger

  • Fast power delivery
  • Compatible with Apple and Android devices
  • Comes with a USB-C cable
  • Compact and light
  • Charger may block socket below it

If you’re looking for a solo charger for your smartphone or tablet, consider Belkin’s single-device charger. Compatible with both Apple and Android devices, it can boost the power of an iPhone 13 or Galaxy S22 Ultra from zero to 50 per cent in just 24 minutes. Its dynamic power delivery technology delivers up to 25W for Samsung phones, and up to 27W for iPhone 14 Pros, which is why it’s a reliable, speedy charging brick to have on hand when your device is running low on battery. The brick comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable, so you can charge your phones (or laptops, or tablets) immediately. Do note that while it’s as small as a key, the charging port is at the bottom of the brick, and may block any sockets below it.

4. Best 45W Charger: Belkin Boost Charge Pro Dual USB-C 45W Wall Charger

  • Two-port simultaneous charging
  • Rounded shape, no sharp edges
  • Does not include cable

Another fantastic option from Belkin, this dual USB-C charger offers two USB-C ports with a combined maximum output of 45W. This means you can fast-charge two small devices at once, like an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy phone, or fast-charge one larger device, like an iPad Pro. The Boost Charge Pro can bring up a Samsung S21+ from zero to 50 per cent in just 27 minutes, and an iPhone 13 to the same point in 28 minutes. The brick uses GaN technology for a safe and efficient process that won’t leave your phone feeling overheated or overcharged. The charger does not include any cables, however, so you’ll have to purchase them separately.

5. Best 65W Charger: UGREEN Nexode 65W USB-C Charger

  • Three-port simultaneous charging
  • GaN technology for increased efficiency and safety
  • Compact and portable
  • Foldable design
  • No cables included

Like our top Anker pick, this UGREEN 65W charger is equipped with two USB-C ports and one USB-A port, allowing you to charge three devices simultaneously. With its PD 3.1 protocol, a single port can pump 65W of power to a MacBook Pro 16-inch laptop, charging it fully in just 1.5 hours. It’s compatible with most brands of smartphones, laptops, tablets and smartwatches, giving you the flexibility and convenience of charging them all with a single brick. Although no cable is included, the Nexode has other useful features going for it, like a travel friendly, foldable design, and always-on temperature detection that keeps your gadgets safe from overheating. Reviewers say it’s extremely fast – some have juiced up powerbanks with 20,000mAh batteries within two hours. Others say its charging speed remains consistent, even when it’s recharging multiple devices.

6. Best 120W Charger: Anker 737 120W GaN Prime Charger

  • Compact design
  • Fast, efficient power delivery
  • Seamlessly charges full-size laptops at high speeds
  • Becomes warm with use

Like our top pick, the Anker 737 supports power delivery for three devices at once – with two USB-C ports and one USB-A port – but it ramps up power to 120W. That’s double the output of Anker 735, and enough to charge a large laptop, along with two other power-hungry devices, like a smartphone and tablet. If you connect a single device, it rapidly charges it at up to 100W. And if you add more gadgets, Anker’s PowerIQ 4.0 technology detects the needs of connected devices and adjusts power delivery automatically for fast, efficient distribution. The brand’s ActiveShield 2.0 intelligently monitors temperature to safeguard connected devices, and the brick is compatible with virtually all electronics, like tablets, notebooks, phones and accessories. Reviewers say it’s reliable and fast, but tends to get warm during extended charging sessions.

Warranty: The manufacturer provides 18-month warranty.

7. Best High-Power Charger: Razer 130W USB-C GaN Charger

  • Four-port simultaneous charging
  • Supports PPS
  • Comes with power plug adapter
  • Slightly bulky

If you’re looking for a charger that can rapidly charge your ultraportable laptop, and have juice to spare, consider Razer’s 130W GaN charger. With four ports – two USB-C and two USB-A – the brick can recharge your smartphone, tablet, laptop and gaming headset, all at the same time. Its two USB-C ports support 100W max each (this power is split into two if both ports are in use, which still means incredibly speedy charging). Its Programmable Power Supply (PPS) technology allows it to modify voltage and current, based on the device’s charging status, which means it’s efficient and safe to use. Although the charger is slightly bulky, it’s ready for travel, since it comes with a convenient power plug adapter that fits most power outlets around the world.

Bonus: Buy with zero per cent installments and pay Dh54.33 for 12 months with select banks.

What are some things to consider before buying a charging brick?

charger

Walk down an aisle with fast chargers, and it boggles the mind – there are so many to choose from. So, where do you start?

Rajan shared several aspects to consider before buying a fast-charging brick:

  • Power intake: Just how much power intake does your device accommodate? Rajan said: “Ideally, devices capable of fast charging should be charged by compatible power bricks. On the other hand, although devices not capable of fast charging will generally not face damage by receiving more power than they are capable of utilising, it is good to double-check the limits of your device before making a purchase.”
  • Utility: What are you using the charger for? If it’s for temporary use, you’ll likely not require a relatively expensive multi-port charger, or one that’s suitable for travel. Depending on what you are using it for, you “would benefit from considering factors such as the number and type of ports supported by a charging brick and its weight and portability”, Rajan advised.
  • Travel considerations: Plug compatibility becomes a primary concern when you’re looking for a charger that you can use internationally. Rajan said: “There are multi-port charging bricks that come with interchangeable plugs that meet different international plug standards (namely, UK, US, and Europe), and these may be helpful for individuals who travel internationally frequently enough to require this level of flexibility.”
  • Credible brands: Don’t settle, when you’re buying a charger – it may harm your device, if it’s not up to the mark. Rajan said: “Buyers should pay attention to the manufacturer of the charging brick they wish to purchase. Since regulatory testing requirements are more stringent in some countries than others, credible manufacturers that sell products worldwide are more likely to meet the necessary regulatory testing and standards. Although rare, some manufacturers do not meet such standards, which can ultimately damage the charging device, even the user (if it catches fire or emits a shock).”

Minimum wattage guidelines

You would think the greater the power, the faster your device will charge. But a smartphone doesn’t require a 100W multi-port charger, just like a laptop won’t recharge rapidly when it’s charging on a brick that’s below 65W.

To break down the wattage requirements of specific electronics, we asked Rajan for some clarity. Here’s what she said:

Smartwatch: Smartwatches are small, delicate devices compared to phones. So, if a compatible charging wall adapter is unavailable, charge them using a laptop or desktop as the power source.

Smartphone: 10W to 18W is standard wattage for charging a phone (18W or more if the phone supports fast charging). Anything below 10W is not recommended, as charging a smartphone with lower than standard wattage can damage the battery in the long run.

Tablet: 20W to 30W, which ranges between standard and fast-charging. The ideal power in this range will depend on the device’s capabilities, but keep in mind that anything below can take too long to charge the device (between eight to nine hours instead of two to three hours) and result in battery damage in the long run.

Laptop: 65W+ is recommended for laptops, although 100W is much better, and anything above that would be ideal for those with laptops capable of handling more power.

Rajan added: “If someone prefers using a wall outlet, they must ensure that the adapter is UL-certified and offers a power output of five volts or one ampere (or less). Avoid fast chargers for smartwatches as they can damage the watch by delivering surplus power in the long run.”
