Great and genuinely wonderful website that makes a proper vacation plan simple, like it should. All reviews are 5 stars. The only suggestion I have to enhance this fantastic website is to include a mobile application. Even paying for a version without ads wouldn't bother me.

Every traveller should use this!

So much easier & more helpful than a travel agency, given lots of fantastic ideas, and was extremely helpful for planning the trip. Would strongly advise my family and friends to use this!

Great tool for trip planning. Impportantly it's free and automatically tailors travel plans to your preferences and is completely customisable. The integration with skyscanner and booking.com, and other OTA like priceline and expedia makes it very easy to plan the whole trip along with the bookings in one place.

Google search's ai will help you plan your next trip.

Meanwhile, Maps is simplifying travel with new city-specific lists

  • Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE) will allow you to plan trips with detailed itineraries and suggestions.
  • The update is further bridging the gap between SGE and Google's dedicated Gemini chatbot.
  • Meanwhile, Google Maps is introducing curated lists of must-visit places, simplifying travel planning for users in the US and Canada.

Generative AI has pervaded nearly every aspect of Google’s business , right from Workspace tools to other core pillars of the business like Search and standalone projects like the Gemini chatbot. Although a lot of details still need to be ironed out, Google seems intent on including its Search Generative Experience (SGE) in Search results by default. To ensure users get the most out of this change, this summer, the company is maintaining the steady cadence of improvements with new capabilities coming to SGE and a few handy tweaks to Google Maps.

What is Google Search Labs?

If you haven’t heard, SGE started life as a Google Search Labs experiment in May 2023, and has since become available to billions of users around the world as an opt-in enhancement for the conventional search results page. The AI-generated summary usually collates information from the top links and summarizes it in a digestible format that’s a few paragraphs long. Now, Google is blurring the lines between the capabilities of the Gemini chatbot and SGE, introducing full-fledged itinerary planning support for the latter.

In its announcement, the company says anyone with access to the Search Generative Experience in the US in English can now type in a search query like “plan me a 5-day trip to Los Angeles that’s all about music culture.” The results should include a day-wise list of the places to visit, suitable restaurants, and a brief overview of your options for hotels and flights.

Google says it will pull reviews and photos from Business Profiles of the area you plan to visit along with information from other websites. You can use the quick summary to compare destinations and plan your trip efficiently. If you’re traveling with someone else, SGE also has shortcuts to export the suggestions to Google Docs, Gmail, and Maps, enabling easier sharing or a way to keep the results for later reference.

Lists could make Google Maps more useful

Speaking of Maps, Google also announced a few features to simplify summertime travel in the app. Say, you’re planning that trip to LA, you can just look up the city in Maps and swipe up. The app should display a few lists of must-visit attractions and stores. Google has special restaurant lists including a Trending list updated every week, a Top list for the all-time favorite restaurants, and a Gems list for the unheard-of secret places which you might otherwise miss. Additionally, you will find lists from popular sources like Lonely Planet, The Infatuation, OpenTable, and The New York Times.

Presently, the company is rolling out this feature only for users in the US and Canada, with curated lists available for a little over 40 cities. If it takes off, we hope to see it expand to other regions as well, because integrating advice from Google’s Local Guides community and the abundance of online listicles for popular destinations should be a piece of cake for the company.

Google is also giving Maps users convenient list customization tools when you hit the New list option in the Saved tab. Options include sorting by date added, manual sorting to create a ranked list, and support for linking to content from social media. AI also plays a role here, with photos and reviews summarizing important information about a place you’re looking up.

A big mistake at my first all-inclusive changed how I'll plan resort trips in the future

  • I had my first all-inclusive vacation at Thatch Caye in Belize.
  • My biggest mistake was booking the stay with a hotel mindset.
  • I checked into the resort too late and left too early to enjoy all its amenities.

Insider Today

Minutes ticked by while my friend and I waited for a boat to take us to Thatch Caye , an all-inclusive resort on a private island in Belize.

As we sat in the sand, a resort worker informed us that we were waiting for a few more guests arriving on a delayed flight.

It wasn't anyone's fault. But by the time we got to the island, it was 5 p.m., and the sun was starting to set. The earliest boat transfer was at 2:30 p.m., and if we had planned for that, we could've spent more hours enjoying the luxury resort .

If missing hours on our first day wasn't bad enough, we also had an early flight on our departure day that cut more time off the trip. Essentially, our three-day stay was really just one day.

If I were to book an all-inclusive again , I'd plan my arrival and departure times better to maximize vacation time.

A late check-in and early check-out left little time to explore

I had never stayed at an all-inclusive before arriving at Thatch Caye, but I did go in with different expectations than a hotel stay.

Related stories

To me, all-inclusive resorts are about relaxing. You want to eat all you can possibly eat, dive into every pool possible, nap on beaches, and enjoy the sunshine. The goal, for many, is never to leave the resort.

Hotels, on the other hand, function for me as a launching point. They're a place to sleep. My goal is to spend little time in a hotel and more time exploring the destination I'm visiting.

While I knew once I got to the all-inclusive resort, I wouldn't want to leave, I didn't think about when I arrived.

And this was my mistake at Thatch Caye. I missed vacation time by not checking in as early as possible, which at Thatch Caye is 3 p.m., and not checking out as late as possible.

Amenities are what you pay for, and I'll remember that for future trips

While I spent one full day on the island, I easily could've kept busy for a week.

There were daily excursions, including scuba diving, snorkeling, and island hopping. Between activities, guests could use complimentary paddleboards and kayaks to explore the ocean. Or, if you were sick of the sun, you could venture to the resort's on-site spa.

Beyond all that, sandy beaches, overwater hammocks, and endless tropical cocktails meant naps and relaxation were at the top of my list.

While some activities, like diving and massages, cost extra, a huge portion of what you're paying for is the amenities. You're paying for buffet meals and unlimited drinks, and resort fees go toward the pools, beaches, and water gear.

All-inclusive stays can range drastically in price. We stayed in Thatch Caye's premier overwater bungalow, which costs around $950 a night after resort fees and taxes. (Business Insider received a media rate for a two-night stay.) A cheaper all-inclusive might be $150 a night, US Travel and News reported.

Either way, that price includes more than the room you're sleeping in.

My friend and I took advantage of our full day at Thatch Caye. We slept soundly in our overwater bungalow , went scuba diving in the morning, paddleboarding in the afternoon, and relaxed in the evening. It was an incredible trip that we didn't want to end .

But for a future all-inclusive stay, I won't miss out on a minute of my resort reservation.

Trip planner - enot66 4+

Plan and accompany, ian lipliavyi, designed for ipad, screenshots, description.

enot66 will help you plan and discuss your trip in detail, and then and then accompany you on your journey Almost all travel planners suggest that you simply add an object, for example, a hotel. In the best case – from the list. I.e. before that you should: 1. Make a list of possible candidates for booking. 2. Discuss them. 3. Make a decision. To do this, you need: - Memorize possible candidates somewhere (usually this is scrolling through the messenger for a few days ago in search of the link that was sent to you). - Object research. Is it far from the airport? Are there beaches around? And the restaurants? Is there parking near the restaurant? And ATMs? Is it possible to get there by public transport? And what is the usual weather there during this period? Etc. - To exchange opinions. Why this restaurant (museum, beach, hotel, flight) some like it, some don't. At the same time, it would be nice to understand what kind of object we are talking about, so that it would not work out “well, you have to remember, I'm talking about that hotel with a green roof on the sea.” Everything can take longer than the journey itself, and you will do all this outside of the application, which for some mysterious reason is called the travel planner. In enot66, all this happens inside the application: 1. You have a search in booking systems. 2. "Wishlist" - a list of candidates, i.e. what you transferred from the search and are going to book something from it. 3. In the "Wishlist" you can discuss objects with others, for this purpose the built-in messenger creates a separate hour for each object (the icon on the toolbar of the object description window). 4. You can continue/start exploring the neighborhood. For example, to find a suitable restaurant near the hotel, right there - a parking lot next to the restaurant, an ATM next to the parking lot, etc. All this can be added to the "Wishlist" or immediately to "Selected". And only after you have discussed the object, made a decision, booked it, you transfer it to "Selected". I.e. from this moment the vast majority of travel planners start working. We actively use external services: you can open the neighborhood view for any object, open the preset search on the search site to get more information about this museum, open the page on the sites of information providers to learn more about this restaurant, open the navigator to this place and etc. But all this is done from the application in one touch. And support can go into planning at any time: what is interesting around me - cities, sights, beaches, shops... What's the weather like there? What is the distance or route? How do I get back to the hotel? Etc. Our task in developing the application was to create the core of the journey, which, through the mediation of third-party services, forms its complete picture. It does not require registration, does not have paid functions, does not show ads, and does not engage in mailing. Have a nice trip with enot66!

Planning a Road Trip for the Total Solar Eclipse? Here’s Why You Should Drive Extra Carefully

Scientists found a 31 percent increase in fatal car crashes around the 2017 total solar eclipse, akin to spikes in traffic risk on busy holiday weekends

Sarah Kuta

Daily Correspondent

Traffic on highway

Millions of people are expected travel to see the total solar eclipse on April 8 . And with many of them driving—clogging the roads with extra vehicles—scientists are warning of a potential uptick in fatal car crashes.

Their prediction is rooted in data from the last total solar eclipse that was visible from North America, which took place on August 21, 2017 . On the day of that eclipse, along with the day before and the day after, scientists found a 31 percent increase in the number of fatal crashes per hour compared to non-eclipse periods, they report Monday in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine .

That’s one extra crash fatality every 95 minutes, for a total of 46 extra deaths linked to the 2017 eclipse. The increase is similar to what happens over busy holiday travel weekends, like Thanksgiving or the Fourth of July.

The surge in crashes likely has nothing to do with the conditions of the eclipse itself—drivers aren’t getting into accidents because of the sudden dimming of the sun.

Rather, the higher traffic risk is likely due to “increased traffic, travel on unfamiliar routes, speeding to arrive on time, driver distraction by a celestial event, drug or alcohol impairment from related celebrations or eclipse viewing from unsafe roadside locations,” says study co-author Donald Redelmeier , a physician and scientist at the University of Toronto and the Sunnybrook Research Institute, in a statement .

That theory is backed by the fact that the number of fatal crashes decreased during the hour when the eclipse was happening in 2017, reports Live Science ’s Nicoletta Lanese.

“One of the surprises that I didn’t anticipate was that the risks do not occur at the exact moment of totality,” Redelmeier tells CNN ’s Mira Cheng. “It’s not when everything is dark and black and chilly, but instead, they occur in the hours before and after.”

An estimated 20 million Americans traveled to see the 2017 eclipse, which had a 62- to 71-mile-wide path of totality , or the swath of Earth from which the moon appears to fully block the sun. Researchers were curious to know how all that travel affected fatal car crashes, so they dug into data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

More specifically, they looked at the number of accidents that occurred the day before, the day of and the day after the 2017 total solar eclipse, from August 20-22. For comparison, they also pulled the same statistics for a three-day period the week before the eclipse, as well as a three-day period the week after: August 13-15 and August 27-29.

Using a U.S. Navy calculator, they also studied the latitude and longitude of each crash to see what time it occurred in relation to the local eclipse maximum, or the point at which the moon appeared to complete block the sun’s light.

They found that 10.3 fatal crashes occurred per hour during the three-day eclipse period, compared to 7.9 crashes per hour during the comparison periods.

Drivers and passengers were most vulnerable after the eclipse, when the traffic risk rose to nearly 50 percent above average. The riskiest hour of the entire study period was between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on the evening of the eclipse, reports the National Post ’s Sharon Kirkey.

“We’re especially concerned about the drive home,” Redelmeier tells Live Science .

The traffic risk was also higher in locations with clear skies, compared to those with overcast skies, the researchers found.

The study only looked at fatal crashes and did not consider other accidents with less severe outcomes. The scientists also could not distinguish between local drivers and tourists who were involved in accidents while traveling to see the rare celestial phenomenon.

This year, the path of totality is much wider than it was seven years ago. An estimated 31.6 million U.S. residents live within the path of totality for April’s eclipse, compared to 12 million in 2017. Still, the regions experiencing totality will receive a massive influx of tourists.

“Many first-time viewers will attend the 2024 eclipse because of what they heard from those who saw the eclipse in 2017,” wrote Jonathan Upchurch , a transportation engineering consultant and emeritus professor at Arizona State University, in the September-October 2018 issue of TR News, a publication of the Transportation Research Board. “The event also will have a high number of repeat participants.”

Whatever happens on April 8, the researchers recommend all drivers use extra caution and practice safe driving techniques, such as following the posted speed limits, wearing seat belts, signaling turns and limiting distractions.

“We all share the road, so just because you’re not paying attention to the eclipse, you have to pay attention to every other driver that surrounds you,” Redelmeier tells the National Post .

Eclipse viewers should also take precautions when they are watching the skyward spectacle itself. The primary risk is eclipse blindness, or solar retinopathy , which is caused by staring directly at the sun without eye protection. Anyone who wants to look up at the sun as the moon passes in front of it should invest in a pair of eclipse glasses. Cameras also need special solar filters for viewing or photographing the eclipse.

Don’t look directly at the partially eclipsed sun without the proper protection, says Hin Cheung , an optometrist at Indiana University, in a statement . “Photochemical damage is cumulative,” he adds. “Staring at the sun for short periods at a time does not protect you; the damage from each viewing adds up. This may cause temporary or even permanent changes to your central vision.”
