Carnaby Street

The birthplace of the fashion and cultural revolution during the Swinging 60s, the 13 streets that make up Carnaby are located between Oxford Street and Regent Street , and feature more than 100 brands and 60 restaurants, bars, cafes and pubs. Step under the iconic arch to find an intriguing mix of independent boutiques, heritage brands and new designer names, as well as a choice of cafes, restaurants, bars and great English pubs. Refuel at restaurant hub Kingly Court , just off Carnaby Street.

Covent Garden

A visit to Covent Garden is a must, whether you intend to shop, sightsee or soak in the carnival atmosphere. The focal point of Covent Garden, the market, has dominated the area ever since the Middle Ages when monks tended their market garden here. Since the 19th century the market has expanded. Watch out for mime artists – harmless but irritating. The Garden is a mecca for shop-hoppers because of the variety available here. High Street outlets include Oasis, French Connection, Zara, Urban Outfitters, Hobbs, Marks & Spencer and Mango. Menswear is available at Diesel, Replay, Ted Baker and for the smarter guy, Paul Smith. There are a huge number of women’s fashion stores and Neal Street, which runs out of the Piazza, is probably the best shoe shopping street in the capital, with numerous trendy outlets including Office, Foot Locker and Size. Further options include Neal’s Yard, a quaint and colourful courtyard that’s worth a stroll through and Seven Dials, which is home to yet more high street stores. If you’re still keen to shop remember to pay a visit to the beautiful Apple Store which, located in a carefully restored 1876 building, is spread across numerous floors and makes shopping a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

King’s Road

In posh Chelsea’s King’s Road you’ll find an eclectic mix of chic boutiques, unique labels, designer shops and high-street staples, alongside a vast array of cafes and restaurants. It’s also a great place for inspirational interior design, with Peter Jones , Heal’s and Cath Kidston all vying for attention. Be sure to check out Duke of York Square : located just off the King’s Road, this tranquil square is home to more than 30 fashion and lifestyle retailers, including one of Europe’s largest Zara stores. You can also visit the store where punk was born in the 70s, Vivienne Westwood’s shop and a treasure trove of antiques at the Chelsea Antiques Market.

Knightsbridge

Visitors from around the world flock to Knightsbridge and Brompton Road to visit the illustrious shops and department stores. This is the place to go if you’re looking for prestigious brands and up-to-the-minute trends from the world’s fashion elite. Best known for Harrods and Harvey Nichols , you’ll also find big-name fashion designers on Sloane Street, as well as high-street brands such as Topshop opposite Harrods.

Image result for camden

Known worldwide as the home of bespoke British tailoring, Savile Row is the place to come if you want a handmade suit crafted the old-fashioned way (with a price tag to match). Credited with inventing the tuxedo Henry Poole & Co – also the first Savile Row tailor – is still cutting cloth at No 15. Other big names include Gieves & Hawkes , Huntsman & Sons and Ozwald Boateng . On the corner of this “golden mile” of tailoring you’ll also find the flagship Abercrombie & Fitch store.

Camden is the ideal shopping destination for lovers of alternative clothing. Here you can find some of the most unusual London shops. Get off the Tube at Camden Town , walk along Camden High Street, and you’ll find plenty of stores selling gothic fashion and punk clothing, alongside tattoo and piercing parlours. Further ahead, Camden Lock Market has it all, whether you are looking for a perfect birthday gift or a souvenir, from hand-crafted jewellery, to vintage leather bags. And don’t miss the futuristic cyber clothing shop Cyberdog .

Notting Hill

Famous worldwide thanks to the film of the same name, Notting Hill offers a vast array of small, unique shops selling unusual and vintage clothing, rare antiques, quirky gifts, books and organic food. There’s the popular Portobello Road Market – a mile-long (1.6km) street with vibrant stalls set out daily. Nearby Westbourne Grove offers more high-end shopping, with stylish designer shops dotted between a mix of quirky boho boutiques, hip cafes and art galleries.

Shopping Tour London: Best Shopping Destinations in London

Shaheer Ali

Spend a whole day exploring the eclectic culture of London shopping, sampling the trendy, sophisticated, luxury, hipster, and oriental. Shopping in London has a lot to offer, including London attractions and London activities to do.

Even seasoned travelers will be perplexed by the complexities of London’s shopping sector. Simply, there is far too much to see and do in one trip, such as Harrods, Covent Garden Market, Borough Market and london shopping mall options. Our trip planners living in London hand-picked some of the top shopping areas and gathered them together in daily routes! You can access the London trip plans through this link.

1 day in London is never enough! But you can save time by choosing these tours I suggest for your trip to London. IF you are into local food tour in London, you should read our latest blog!

Let’s start with our London shopping route, now! This journey will take you through every aspect of London’s shopping culture, from the opulent to the low-key, the antique and the modern, the traditional and the rebellious, and everything in between.

Borough Market

Royal exchange, covent garden market, leicester square, harrod’s, oxford street.

borough-market

The first one of London shopping street options. Taste the world’s best cheeses, seafood, and more. This restaurant is the “genuine deal” when it comes to fresh, organic, and clean cuisine. Help a hardworking and pleasant farmer from Yorkshire’s rolling hills and more in the process!

Golden Checklist

  • See – The Shard, Western Europe’s tallest structure, can be found right next to the main entrance. The Shard, shaped like a tall and lanky pyramid, is a bizarre but stunning building.
  • Try a teaspoon of the world’s most potent balsamic vinegar at the Italian Olive Oil Co stall to find out what the “genuine thing” tastes like.
  • Buy a good and hefty block of Comte cheese; it is unrivaled in terms of taste and freshness. You can also take home a little bottle of Sardinian squeezed olive oil, balsamic vinegar, or a jar of ‘truffle’. Just make sure that everything you buy does not expire! In other words, if you can’t refrigerate fresh meat or fish right away, it might not be the best decision!
  • Photo Point- Do you want to take a good photo or two? Cross London Bridge to the other side of the Thames River and grab some posh pictures next to London’s towering skyline. Canary Wharf may be seen on the far right, and the dome of St.Cathedral Paul’s can be seen on the far left, peering over the jumble of glass structures and gothic remains. Take a selfie, a group picture, or a breathtaking panorama; the option is yours!
  • Don’t – If the shopkeeper notices you, make sure to say hi! They are quite friendly. 😉
Bu gönderiyi Instagram’da gör   The Royal Exchange (@theroyalexchange)’in paylaştığı bir gönderi

This magnificent landmark, grand, awe-inspiring, and regal, stands in stark contrast to Borough Market in terms of London shopping mall and London shopping centre. It appears to be anything but a shopping destination, as it is located in a quiet part of London near the Bank of England. Your jaws will drop open in astonishment and admiration when you pass past its towering pillars and step inside. It’s a silent “explosion” of grandeur and glamor, with trendy boutiques, expensive labels, and limited-edition purses.

Aspinal of London, Laudree of Paris, Watches of Switzerland, and many more are among the brands available. You can make an appointment ahead of time, or simply walk in and an assistant will be waiting to serve you. Inside Fortnum and Mason, you may find the finest English tea blends, Scottish shortbreads, and quality gifts for your family back home.

covent-garden

This popular London landmark is a local favorite and a must-see for all visitors. With eccentric cafes, magnificent outdoor performers, and adorable coffee shops, this is the ideal area to browse, relax, pick up a few gifts, and laugh with friends!

You can consider Covent Garden Market outlet mall London being known as an outlet in London as well.

street art tours in london

  • See – The outdoor performances, whether it’s a clown performing card tricks, fire-jumping, or Yo-yo tricks, make sure to catch a show! They happen all day, so you won’t be able to miss them!
  • Taste – Head one floor downstairs from the balcony in the indoor market and have a French crepe in one of the gleaming cafes! You will not be sorry.
  • Purchase – This shop is brimming with handcrafted items and artwork! My favorite is the homemade organic scents; you can smell them from a mile away!
  • Don’t forget to tip the entertainers!

Today, makeup and cosmetics have a bad reputation for containing harmful chemicals and damaging the environment. This shop aims to alter that by offering a wide range of ethical, animal-friendly, and pure cosmetic brands. Stores like these are paving the way for a more sustainable future, demonstrating that luxury does not have to devastate our precious world.

Visit this location to thank them for their efforts and to learn about the impact of organically sourced cosmetics on your skin, hair, eyes, and much more.

leicester-square

This pedestrian-only square is brimming with energy and vibrancy, with music festivals, outdoor cinema screenings, dancers, and more shopping. You’ll find plenty to do here, whether you want to grab a bite, visit London Legoland, relax and unwind, or lounge at one of the many outdoor cafes.

  • See for yourself – If you’re a Game of Thrones fan (and who isn’t? ), you must see the Iron Throne! It’s a spectacular and nostalgic sight, unveiled to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the compelling series!
  • Photo Point- Want to take a picture with Paddington Bear, Mr. Bean, or Laurel and Hardy? As you explore the area, look for each one’s monument or figurine and take a lovely shot next to your favorite!
  • Do – Take a walking tour of the plaza, where you can run into some of the most well-known British film stars. Say hello to the interactive statue trail, which features favorites such as Mr. Bean, Laurel and Hardy, Harry Potter, Wonder Woman, Harry Potter, and Batman! A welcome diversion from rummaging through your wallet and stuffing your shopping bags. 😉
  • Listen – Take the audio walking tour and discover the various cultural icons that can be traced back to Leicester Square!
  • Do not restrict anyone’s view of a performer by walking between the audience and the entertainer! They strive hard to draw large crowds.

LEGO Store – Leicester Square

Have you ever played with bricks or building blocks as a child? If so, you’ve come to the right place. This unmatched king of building blocks will rekindle your childhood love of making cool stuff! In fact, the entire establishment is composed of simple plastic building pieces, from the towering statues, sculptures, and replicas to the mind-boggling extortion racket of toys in every direction.

M&M Store – Leicester Square

Bu gönderiyi Instagram’da gör   M&M’s UK (@mmsuk)’in paylaştığı bir gönderi

Chocolate lovers will enjoy this wonderful treat. Step inside, and your eyes will be bombarded with chocolates in every form and color imaginable, coming from every direction. Get lost in the world’s largest candy store, pose for photos with huge figurines, climb the balconies and winding staircases, meet a fellow chocolate lover, and have the time of your life. In this one-and-only chocaholic refuge, you can release your inner child and indulge your chocaholic nerves.

harrods

London shopping street hosting beautiful architecture, lighting and everything! Harrods with 15 million visitors each year, it’s difficult to discern whether this is a tourist attraction or the high-end department store that it purports to be. But there’s only one way to find out, and that’s to go. 😉

  • See: In the second story, there is a big golden lion. It’s not for sale, but it’s a stunning sight nonetheless!
  • Taste – Stroll around the never-ending food hall, feasting your tongue (or eyes) on delicacies from every part of the globe.
  • Buy – Adorable teddy bears, London-themed souvenirs, apparel, jewelry, perfumes, bridal gowns, and much more.
  • Do not become disoriented! Use the maps, signs, and concierge desks to help you find your way out.

oxford-street-london

While searching for best shopping streets in London, you come across with Oxford Street, being one of the famous shopping street in London options! Oxford Street is a major shopping street in London, England. It is one of the busiest streets in Europe, with approximately half a million daily visitors, and is a popular destination for both local and international shoppers. The street is home to a variety of retail outlets, including department stores, high street chains, and independent shops.

It is known for its wide range of clothing, beauty, and home goods, as well as its numerous restaurants and cafes. Oxford Street is also home to several iconic London landmarks, such as the Selfridges department store and the flagship stores of many international brands. It is an important hub for the city’s economy and is a major contributor to London’s status as a global shopping destination.

See Why Fashionistas And Explorers Love Fashiontrips

I had a great tour around London with Luciana. She was very knowledgeable. She took us around the city showed us what people in London like to do. She also had a great knowledge of the history and pointed out important areas of town. Luciana also gave excellent tips on where to shop and have dinner. I definitely would recommend her to show you around London.

My wife joined me for a long weekend after a full week of me hopping between conferences, and I wanted her to experience London from a different perspective - as we have already traveled here many times before. Luciana has provided exactly that! We have shopped around Covent Garden in the past, but we have never noticed all the cool spots she showed us, and listening to her explanations was a pure joy (even for a guy who thinks that the shirt at the top of the drawer is the best - and only - option). To make a long review short: please do yourself a favour and hop on this unique experience - can't see how anyone wouldn't think exactly as I do afterwards. Super fun :)

Luciana is a wonderful and insightful guide into the fashion history of London. I learned so much and had such a lovely time. She tailored and personalised the tour to give me a well rounded experience, helped open my eyes on things to look for while going past the shops on historical streets, took me through exciting fashion installations and excellent shops for gift ideas since the holidays are coming up. This was a fantastic experience! I most definitely recommend:)

As a fashionista this tour was perfect for me. I thought I knew fashion but I learned SO much about history and designers!! As well as the layout of London and the history behind the city itself. Loved this tour!!

Whether you're short on time during your stay in London or you're wanting to make sure you hit all of the major tourist attractions along with a plethora of local gems, Luciana's one day tour is the best deal you could find. She personalizes each tour to fit you and your group's interests, and she goes out of her way to create an interwoven narrative of the history behind each stop on the tour, providing context behind each location's historical, social, and political importance in the city

Luciana was our guide. She was so wonderful I wanted to book her every day for the rest of our trip. Of course she was completely booked so she wasn’t able to take us for additional tours but she gave us suggestions for our additional days in London based upon what she learned about us. So very patient with us taking pictures and wanting to stop and go at our own pace but kept us going enough to see so very much. Lucky you if you end up with her as we did!

Shopping in London

Where are the best shopping streets and areas.

shopping tours in london uk

London is a top shopping destination for people throughout the world.

But whether you’re looking to break the bank, or you’re pinching pennies, there’s a variety of districts in London ready to meet your retail needs!

The details in this post come from my knowledge as a local tour guide and resident of London who loves to shop!

I've also included some of the ideas from members of our popular London Travel Tips Facebook group.

The group has over 160k members and is made up of locals, tour guides, frequent travelers to the UK, as well as first-time visitors to London.

You don't need to become a member to read the posts, comments, and recommendations.

So, check out our group once you've finished reading this post!

Oxford Street and the West End

Soho and mayfair.

  • The City and the East End

Knightsbridge and Chelsea

Marylebone village, notting hill, london markets, westfield london, tips from locals and travelers.

Each shopping district or street in London has its own vibe and specialties.

So, read below to see where is the best shopping in London for your personal shopping experience.

Oxford Street is considered the centre of London’s shopping world, London's shopping street.

Holding well over 300 shops, 4 underground stations, as well as flagship stores for numerous companies, Oxford Street is not only the busiest shopping location in London it’s the largest shopping district in existence.

shopping tours in london uk

Here you will find plenty of shops known around the world: Topshop, Selfridge’s, Debenhams, H&M, John Lewis, Uni Qlo, and the largest Primark in the world just to name a few.

Think of Oxford Street as London's High Street!

Clothing, accessories, shoes, or souvenirs, London’s most famous shopping street has it all.

Underground Stations: [East to West] Tottenham Court Road, Oxford Circus, Bond Street & Marble Arch

Bond Street

Bond Street is all about luxury! If you’re looking for high-end designer labels, this is where to go, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co, Michael Koors, Valentino…the list goes on.

Bond Street also holds the only Victoria’s Secret and Abercrombie & Fitch in the U.K.

Bond Street

If your budget won’t stretch to Bond Street, it is worth just walking down the road to peek into some of the most glamorous window displays in town.

Underground Stations: Bond Street, Piccadilly Circus

London Walking Tours

Piccadilly Circus

Piccadilly Circus is famous the world over for its vibrant, flashing lights and the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain (the incorrectly dubbed "statue of Eros").

But, in addition to being a traffic hub, it's also surrounded by great shopping.

To the north of Piccadilly Circus is Regent Street - as we've detailed already.

Piccadilly Circus

It also edges on Soho which is full of funky independent shops, fascinating stores, vintage fabric, and clothing, as well as great nightlife.

To the West, is the street of Piccadilly itself, which is home to the stunning Fortnum & Masons - one of London's first department stores, erected in 1707, as well as Waterstones, one of the largest bookstores in Europe.

If you'd like to find out more about Piccadilly Circus and this beautiful part of town, make sure to join our Soho, Piccadilly Circus, and Chinatown Tour or our Rock n' Roll Tour !

Nearest Tube Station: Piccadilly Circus

Regent Street

Perhaps the most atheistically pleasing of all the shopping districts listed here, Regent Street was designed by master architect Sir John Nash in the 19 th century.

With huge sweeping vistas and different decorations throughout the year (including impressive Christmas displays), Regent Street is a picturesque place to spend your pennies.

Located here are ranges from the top end (Liberty of London and Ferrari) to fun and affordable.

Regent Street, London

Keep an eye out for Hamleys – the largest toy store in London and a must-visit destination for those traveling with children!

Often it is possible to visit Barbie, Captain John Sparrow and the like standing outside the shop and visiting is a sensory experience for people of all ages.

Underground Stations: Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus

Covent Garden

Covent Garden has hosted a market for centuries and it is still operating to this day.

Market stalls with handmade goods and crafts as well as cheap clothing and souvenirs, Covent Garden’s Market provides a true London market shopping experience.

However, Covent Garden is also home to recognisable shops based here permanently (Apple and The Body Shop, for example) and is filled with cobbled roads, eclectic boutiques…and even one of the finest cheese stores in London (Neal’s Yard Dairy)!

A great place to ‘get lost’ Covent Garden provides good shopping for any budget and a variety of retail ranges.

Not only is Covent Garden one of the best shopping districts in town, but it also happens to be one of the best places to grab a bite to eat!

Underground Station: Covent Garden or Leicester Square

Carnaby Street

Carnaby Street was the heart of swinging London in the 1960s and still offers quirky and glam shops, international brands, and unique one-of-a-kinds.

Boasting over 150 different shops and over 50 restaurants and bars, Carnaby is a great place to shop off the main roads of London and is a wonderful place to get lost!

Carnaby Street

With cobbled roads, small centres, alleys, and dead ends, Carnaby Street is on the edge of Soho and is a great destination for those who like to stumble upon interesting shops and bars during their visit.

Home to the finest tailors in the country, Savile Row has been making bespoke suits for celebrities (and regular people!) for decades.

The shops here are all high-end and some of them are by appointment only so this isn't the place to come if you're countering your pennies!

In non-shopping related news, Savile Row is sometimes known as the venue of the final performance of The Beatles , who held a concert on a rooftop here in 1969.

Underground Station: Oxford Street

Burlington Arcade

Burlington Arcade is a trip back in time - a traditional London shopping arcade that's over 200 years old.

This is high-end and luxury shopping at its finest.

Billed as London's "first department store," the charming Arcade is worth a walk-through even if you don't intend to purchase anything!

Underground Station: Piccadilly Circus

Brick Lane, also known as the "Curry Mile," tends to be known for its foodie links rather than for shopping but there are some real hidden gems here!

Brick Lane is home to numerous shops selling vintage clothing, second-hand clothes, handmade jewelry, and more.

Some of these shops have row upon row of clothes to explore and you never know what treasures you might uncover!

And, best of all, once you're done shopping there's no shortage of places to go to have a bite and a drink afterward.

Underground Station: Liverpool Street or Aldgate Station

One New Change

One New Change is almost like a high street in a single building.

All the clothing brands you expect to see like H&M, Hobbs, Mango, Reiss, The Body Shop, etc. are all present and accounted for.

The real draw of the building, however, is the incredible views of St. Paul's Cathedral and the City that you can enjoy by taking the lift to the top.

Underground Station: St. Paul's

The Royal Exchange

Located in the heart of London’s financial district, the Royal Exchange previously hosted the centre of commerce for the City of London.

Today, however, the Royal Exchange hosts a variety of luxury shops, Rolex, Tiffany & Co., Hermes, and Gucci…just to give an idea.

Royal Exchange, London

Luxury restaurants and champagne bars are great places to take a shopping break.

And the location of the Royal Exchange, the opposite side of town from London's other shopping centres, means it is oftentimes not as busy as the better-known shopping locations of London.

Underground Station: Bank

Shopping in Knightsbridge is definitely not for those travelling on a budget!

Here you will find some of the most prestigious and famous retail and fashion names in the world, Prada, Gucci, Burberry, Agent Provocateur, and even Christian Louboutin – this district is all about high fashion.

Knightsbridge, London

Knightsbridge is also home to two of the best-known department stores in Europe: Harvey Nichols and Harrods.

Harrods is worth browsing even if guests do not have the intent to buy, and goods in their food halls can oftentimes be affordable.

After a bit of shopping in beautiful Knightsbridge, what better way to finish your retail experience than by visiting the most luxurious department store in the world - Harrods !

Underground Station: Knightsbridge

In the heart of Chelsea lies the Kings Road - a singular stretch of eclectic shops, clothing boutiques, bars, and restaurants.

From high fashion at shops owned by names as recognisable as Vivienne Westwood to antiques at the Chelsea Antiques Market, King’s Road is a broad mix of different types of shops and stores.

A true London shopping experience, King’s Road is a destination for celebrities in London as well as locals and tourists alike.

King's Road

Not only is Chelsea a great area to celebrity-spot and shop, but it's also a great London district for literary lovers.

Chelsea is an area jam-packed with locations associated with some of the world's best-known writers.

We've composed a helpful Self-Guided Literary Tour of London that will take you not only past the shops but also through history as you check out the homes of celebrated authors from throughout history, such as Oscar Wilde, George Eliot, Mark Twain, and Bram Stoker.

Underground Station: Sloane Square

Sloane Street

Sloane Street is the place to come for luxury brands - you won't find anything easily affordable on this street!

Think Dior, Chanel, Bulgari, Valentino, Versace, Gucci, Fendi, and Armani - and that's just to name a few.

The street is also dotted with fine-dining restaurants and luxury hotels.

At the top of Sloane Street sits the iconic department store, Harvey Nichols , and at the bottom sits Sloane Square and Peter Jones , a high-end John Lewis that offers eight floors of fashion, food, home goods, and anything else you can imagine!

Underground Station: Sloane Square or Knightsbridge

Marylebone isn't as famous as some of the other neighbourhoods on our list. but it is definitely one to consider visiting if you are a shopping lover!

Located near Baker Street, Marylebone is primarily residential but Marylebone High Street is jam-packed with trendy cafes, unique restaurants, and plenty of shops.

shopping tours in london uk

From clothing to home goods to fancy groceries, Marylebone boasts dozens upon dozens of shops to explore.

Also, check out their website to find seasonal events like their fabulous Summer Fair.

Underground Station: Baker Street or Regent's Park

One of London's most famous neighbourhoods, Notting Hill is an upscale locale featuring numerous fancy bars and restaurants as well as luxury shops.

But, there are gems to be found for those not wanting to break the bank.

Affordable pubs, the iconic Portobello Road Market (more info below), unique boutiques, and high street shops mean there's something here for everyone - regardless of your budget!

If you want to explore Notting Hill, consider joining us on our Notting Hill Markets and Culture Tour !

Underground Station: Notting Hill Gate

Here are some of the best markets in London.

For even more market shopping take a look at our post, 18 Best London Markets for Street Food, Antiques, Flowers and more .

Camden Market

Located in Northwest London on the bank of Regent’s Park, Camden Market is a series of open-air and indoor markets, along with food stalls, retail shops, bars, and restaurants.

Open every day of the year (aside from Christmas), the weekends are still the best time to visit as that is the only time to guarantee all the stalls will be open.

For those who are adventurous, off-beat, or just a little bit quirky, Camden is the place to head.

In Camden, vintage shops, piercing parlours, and tattoo artists reside alongside stalls selling food from all around the world.

Home to a thriving counter-culture community, Camden is a haven for those who are fans of the extreme and outlandish.

An explosion of colors and textures, art, and antiques, Camden Market is a bustling complex well worth a visit.

Underground Station: Camden Town

Borough Market

For the gastronomists among you, Borough Market is your surefire stop for delicious and authentic London food and drink.

One of the oldest markets in London, Borough Market operates on a wholesale level on weekday mornings and is open to the public for commercial trade on weekday lunchtimes and all day on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Located under beautifully architected structures dating from the 19th century to the 1930s, Borough Market can be found in Southwark, just below the River Thames.

Originally focused on fruit and vegetables, Borough Market now sells nearly any kind of edible delight one can imagine, showcasing local purveyors from all over the United Kingdom and Europe.

Food is available to eat as soon as you buy it, or you can purchase a multitude of ingredients to create your own meal at home.

From bakeries to butchers, confectionaries to charcuterie, seafood to spices, dairy to drinks - whatever you choose to indulge in, we guarantee you will not leave Borough Market with an empty stomach!

Let us show you the best that the Market has to offer on our Borough Market and Maltby Street Food Tour !

Underground: London Bridge

Portobello Road Market

The largest antique market in the entire world, Portobello Road Market showcases over 1,000 dealers in one localised area in the west of London.

The antique showcases at Portobello are a Saturday operation, with many stalls opening at 8:30 or 9:00 am and oftentimes packing up by 4 pm.

Easily the busiest market in London, it is best to visit Portobello first thing in the morning to avoid the crowds.

100’s of stalls, stands, shops and arcades are located along Portobello Road, providing some of the most unique antique items available in the capital.

Bric-a-brac, jewelry, art and artifacts, crystal, silver and gold, books or clothes - whatever you may be after, you are sure to find it at Portobello.

On Saturdays, there are also a number of food trucks and stalls set up so that you may refuel with delicious delights whilst you shop!

Portobello offers the opportunity to come face-to-face with some of London’s most experienced market operators who will be more than happy to haggle and bargain with anyone who is up to the task!

If you want to explore Portobello Market, consider joining us on our Notting Hill Markets and Culture Tour !

Underground Station: Notting Hill Gate or Ladbroke Grove

Leadenhall Market

Located in the City of London, Leadenhall Market is a true treasure.

Leadenhall is a covered market and the ornate rooftop, as well as the cobbled floors, were designed in 1881 and are nearly all original, although there was some redecoration done in the 1990s.

Leadenhall Market is only open Monday - Friday as most of the trade here comes from the thousands of office staff who work in the offices of the City.

Most of the shops here are upscale - again, fitting in with its location in the financial district.

But, there are also affordable stores as well as great options for lunch, which makes it worth a stop.

Aside from Leadenhall's offerings, it is also well known for playing the role of Diagon Alley in the first Harry Potter films!

If you want to know more about that, check out our page on Harry Potter in London .

Our Self-Guided Audio Tour, found on the page, includes a stop here so make sure to download it before you go!

Underground Station: Monument, Aldgate, Liverpool Street

Spitalfields Market

There has been a market in Spitalfields for over 300 years and the newest version is entirely covered and filled with myriad shops, stalls, and restaurants.

The Victorian structure holds a number of smaller markets within, including street food, antiques, second-hand books, and handmade goods just to name a few.

This is a great place to grab a bargain and a bite all at the same time.

In the heart of the East End, Spitalfields Market has seen a lot of history, some of which you can experience if you join us on our tours!

Spitalfields Market

Our East London Food Tour encapsulates the story of this vibrant section of London's East End, as told through the amazing food and drink your guide will share with you.

The bohemian and immigrant cultures here have also led to a booming street art scene which we'd be happy to introduce you to on our Street Art and Graffiti Tour .

And for those who like things a bit darker, a number of Jack the Ripper's victims lived and died along the nearby streets and our guides will show you where it all played out on our Jack the Ripper Tour .

Underground Station: Liverpool Street

Yes, these are just regular shopping malls. Asian and European visitors are big on Westfield although Americans aren't too impressed since they have them everywhere!

The newest additions to the London shopping scene, London's two Westfield malls - Shepherd's Bush and Stratford - are two of the largest urban shopping centres in all of Europe.

Located entirely indoors, they also make excellent places to browse and shop when the London weather isn’t too cooperative!

Both Westfields are divided into two parts – the standard shopping areas and the luxury departments.

Westfield

This means there are the standard names you’d expect to see (Marks & Spencer, House of Fraser, Debenhams, Primark) as well as top labels known the world over (Jimmy Choo, Tag Heuer, and Ted Baker).

With over 275 shops in each, more than three dozen places to eat overall, as well as seasonal ice rinks and cinemas, the Westfields are one-stop shops for a retail day out.

Underground Stations: Shepherd's Bush, White City, Stratford

The Duchess of Sussex seems to be soft-launching the first product from her upcoming lifestyle brand.

Influencers and friends of Meghan have been posting pictures of American Riviera Orchard's debut item - strawberry jam - in recent days.

Parenting campaigner Kelly McKee Zajfen has become the latest to promote the jar, posting an image of it in a basket of lemons and flowers on Instagram.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kelly McKee Zajfen (@_heartmom_)

The Duchess reportedly sent out 50 jam jars to online influencers.

Los Angeles-based fashion designer Tracy Robbins shared a photo of a jar - marked 17 out of 50 - earlier this week.

Megan has already launched the American Riviera Orchard website, but it does not feature any products and simply invites visitors to join a waiting list.

An Instagram profile has also been set up for the business, but just features several posts making up its gold logo.

"By Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex⁣⁣⁣. Established 2024", is all the description says.

You can read more about when we first saw a glimpse of the product here ...

Barristers and judges have the biggest gender pay gap in the UK, a study has shown.

Women in the profession earn just over 29% less than their male counterparts - around £8.31 an hour.

That's according to ONS data analysed by Claims.co.uk.

Financial managers and directors were found to have the second-biggest difference, with women paid approximately £11.56 less an hour than men in the same occupation.

"Perhaps in 2024, studies like this will raise awareness of the gender pay gap and precipitate change in these industries, starting with pay reviews," Claims.co.uk said.

You can see the 10 jobs with the biggest pay gaps below...

As the season for high pollen count is upon us, anyone who suffers from hay fever will be thinking about stocking up on their medication.

But this can mean the pocket takes a hit.

Branded tablets from pharmacies can set buyers back quite a bit, with Clarityn allergy relief costing £10.99 for 30 tablets . Piriteze is another common brand, priced at  £11.55 for 30 tablets .

But most of these medications have identical properties, regardless of brand.

It's important to look out for the "active" ingredients - and then buy the cheapest option.

These include loratadine and cetirizine hydrochloride.

Supermarkets and discount stores can provide cheaper alternatives to the brand names.

Poundstretcher, for example, sells 30 loratadine tablets for 79p.

Supermarkets will often sell the branded versions alongside their own cheaper equivalents - so compare the ingredients before deciding which to go for.

Here are some examples:

  • Asda: £2.50 for cheapest generic v £6.50 for cheapest Clarityn tablets
  • Boots: £5.99 for cheapest generic v £11.55 for Piriteze, Zirtek or branded equivalent
  • Boots: £2.75 for cheapest generic v £10.99 for Clarityn tablets
  • Sainsbury’s: £2.50 for cheapest generic v £11.10 for Clarityn tablets
  • Tesco: £2.95 for cheapest generic v £11 for Piriteze, Zirtek or branded equivalent
  • Waitrose: £3.25 for cheapest generic v £11.85 for Clarityn tablets

There are no cheaper equivalent options for Benadryl tablets, but Amazon offers cheaper deals of £7.20 or £6.48 with Prime vs a standard price of around £10 from supermarkets.

Remember, certain options could seem cheaper, such as an option of 90p for 10 tablets vs £1 for 10 one-a-day tablets.

However, you'll need to keep taking the first option throughout the day, with the second option lasting you much longer.

You should only buy medications from legitimate pharmacies and shops, as they must adhere to certain standards and inspections.

If you had a great meal out, you'd probably leave a tip. Why don't you tip the people that make your video games too?

That's the suggestion from former game studio president Mike Ybarra. He sparked a debate on X when he posted the idea he'd been thinking about "for a while".

"When I beat a game, there are some that just leave me in awe of how amazing the experience was.

"I've often thought 'I wish I could give these folks another $10 or $20' because it was worth more than my initial $70 and they didn't try to nickel and dime me every second," he posted.

His idea was a flop.

A lot of the more than 1,700 replies asked why games studios didn't just pay their developers properly, at a time when the industry is in crisis.

"Maybe it's time companies start giving salaries and a bonus structure adequate to all their employees," posted @leqvist.

Game developers are facing mass redundancies. ( You can read more about that here .)

In the Past two years, more than 19,000 people have lost their jobs and just four months into 2024, another 8,000 have gone.

Only yesterday, an estimated 600 redundancies were announced by Grand Theft Auto-6 publisher Take-Two, which could include jobs at Scotland’s Rockstar Games UK.

The other criticism that cropped up a lot was that games are pretty expensive anyway and should just be… good?

"A horrible idea. The game should be an amazing experience for $70! Paying extra for a 'great game' means that you are settling for a **** or mediocre game normally," posted @LinuxMostly.

The average price for a boxed video game in the UK is now £35.70, according to the Entertainment and Retail Association yearbook.

After posting his idea, Mr Ybarra clearly went about his life, posting afterwards: "Whoever runs SteamDB [a database of everything on Steam], I tip my hat to you."

"Maybe you should tip them," came the reply.

Crisis-hit Boeing has rushed to defend itself from fresh whistleblower allegations of poor practice as the airline grapples its latest safety crisis.

A Congressional investigation heard evidence yesterday on the safety culture and manufacturing standards at the company - rocked in January by a mid-air scare that saw an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 flight suffer a panel blowout.

One Boeing quality engineer, Sam Salehpour, told members of a Senate subcommittee that Boeing was taking shortcuts to bolster production levels that could lead to jetliners breaking apart.

Almost one million private renters in England have been handed no-fault evictions since the Conservative government promised to abolish them, new data has shown.

Research by YouGov on behalf of homelessness charity Shelter - and shared exclusively with Sky News - showed that since April 2019 943,000 people had been given Section 21 notices, the equivalent of more than 500 renters every day.

The figures also showed unwanted moves were costing private renters in England £550m a year, with 830,000 people having to move in the past 12 months alone due to either their fixed tenancies coming to an end, being priced out by rent increases or being served with a Section 21.

The Co-operative Bank will this week move a step closer to regaining its mutual status when it announces that it has struck a £780m deal to be bought by the Coventry Building Society.

Sky News has learnt that the two organisations are expected to announce as early as today that they have reached agreement on the terms of a transaction.

Insiders said the cash price to be paid by the Coventry would be close to £800m.

The 10 cheapest European summer holidays have been revealed, with some "surprising" destinations making the list.

Which? compiled the list after analysing more than 4,500 package holidays.

The consumer group found the least expensive were often in locations that people "assume come with a higher price tag", such as Italy's Amalfi Coast or Greek islands.

Interestingly, traditionally low-cost destinations such as Bulgaria and Turkey failed to make the top 10.

Which? said this was partly because of the type of packages available, with the Amalfi Coast having a wide choice of accommodation on either a self-catering or bed and breakfast basis, which is usually cheaper than full board packages.

These are the 10 cheapest package holidays for seven nights during the first week of August:

Petrol prices could go well above 150p a litre, the RAC has warned, as data shows it has already risen by nearly 8p this year.

The price at the pump has hit a five-month high of 148.5p, according to government figures.

It was 140.8p at the start of the year.

During this week alone, the cost has gone up by 1.6p - there has not been a sharper weekly rise since August 2023.

Average pump prices for diesel have also increased to 157.5p, the highest since November 2023.

"This year is proving to be another tough one for drivers," RAC fuel price spokesperson Simon Williams said.

"Both petrol and diesel are now the most expensive they've been since November last year, which is bad for households, businesses and the economy, especially as we know there is a close link between fuel prices and inflation.

"With increased tensions in the Middle East, the cost of oil is only likely to go up, which could push petrol well above 150p a litre."

This was echoed by AA fuel price spokesman Luke Bosdet, who said pump prices were climbing towards the point "drivers fear".

"It is a psychological shock that shouts out from the price boards each time motorists drive past," he said.

"The early part of the summer could be a tough time for UK motorists."

Mr Williams also explained that while diesel is edging towards 160p, that is due to retailers taking much bigger margins.

"There's only been a few pence between the wholesale prices of both fuels since mid-March," he added.

"We find it hard to believe that a margin of 13p a litre on diesel - compared to the long-term average of 8p - is fair.

"This surely won't go unnoticed by the Competition and Markets Authority, which only two weeks ago expressed its concern about higher retailer margins."

Virgin Media has topped the rankings of the most complained-about broadband, landline and pay-TV providers, Ofcom figures show.

The regulator said Virgin Media received the most complaints between October and December last year.

The company received 20 complaints per 100,000 broadband customers in the three-month period.

But this was an improvement on the 32 per 100,000 in the previous quarter.

Complaints handling was the cause of 43% of customer complaints, compared with an industry average of 32%.

Some 22% of its complaints were about faults, service and provisioning, well below the industry average of 37%.

It was slightly ahead of Now Broadband, which received 18 complaints per 100,000, but lagged behind the industry average of 12.

Sky, Sky News' parent company, came in with the fewest complaints at five per 100,000 customers.

Virgin Media complaints for landline came in at 13 per 100,000, just ahead of Shell Energy and Now Broadband.

It also received 13 complaints per 100,000 for pay-TV, almost double that of BT.

A Virgin Media O2 spokesman said: "We're committed to providing an excellent service to our customers, and while overall these complaints represent a very small proportion of our customer base, we acknowledge there is a need for improvement, which is under way, and we're focused on getting this right.

"We are investing heavily and making changes across our business to deliver tangible improvements, for example through multi-skilling our teams and rolling out new IT platforms that will make it easier for customers to get support when they need it, and empowering our people to resolve any issues quickly and effectively first time."

The FTSE 100 has recovered a bit more ground in early dealing after Tuesday's sharp losses.

The index opened 0.4% higher at 7,880, building on a 0.4% gain yesterday.

The Tuesday rout, on fears of US interest rates remaining higher for longer, saw more than 1.8% of its value lost.

While the issue remains a concern for investors, miners have dug the FTSE's way to recovery.

Among other sectors making strides were airline and holiday stocks. That was after easyJet reported strong summer bookings and an easing of first-half losses.

The no-frills carrier, which makes all its profits in the six months to the end of September, said it expected to be among the fastest growing European airlines. Shares took off by 4.5%.

Deliveroo stock also gained, by 2.3%, after it returned to order growth in the first three months of the year.

One deal making waves is a takeover of troubled British music investor Hipgnosis Songs Fund. The FTSE 250 firm, which has a catalogue including rights to work by artists including Shakira, Ed Sheeran, Blondie and Red Hot Chili Peppers, is set to be bought by Concord Chorus. Under the terms of the deal, shareholders of Hipgnosis will get $1.16 per share in cash, valuing the company at $1.4bn (£1.1bn).

The price, musical and theatrical rights holder Concord said, represented a 30% premium on the recent value of Hipgnosis shares.

Hipgnosis has been mired by troubles since mid-last year, including valuation concerns, board and legal battles, and a shareholder revolt against a catalogue sale deal that forced a strategic review.
