Cairo to Luxor Cruises

Nile Cruiser is the most elegant method to go from Luxor to Aswan and it takes three days. A voyage along the Nile River harkens back to the early days of Egypt tourism when European travelers first toured the nation by boat (including sightseeing days in both Cairo and Luxor while onboard) would take about 12 days.

After departing from Luxor, most Nile cruises visit Esna, Edfu, and Kom Ombo before returning to Aswan. Alternatively, you can fly directly to Aswan and then go north down the Nile to see the same sights as on the other itineraries. At least four nights are required for most cruises.

From Luxor to Aswan, Amwaj Nile Cruise takes 5 days, and vice versa. It passes by a lot of heritage sites, such as Luxor Temple, Kom Ombo, the valley of the kings and queens, as well as taking in the natural beauty of the Nile’s landscape.

Saga Nile cruise aboard the Livingstone.

Our Nile cruise aboard the Livingstone/Amwaj was part of our Saga Nile and Red sea all inclusive holiday. We stayed two days before the cruise and five days after at Radisson Blu Hotel El Quseir (see separate review). The Livingstone is a modern ship and the cabins were comfortable and clean. The crew were excellent and really looked after guests. The restaurant served a good choice of meals buffet style and all drinks were included in the Saga inclusive package. The excursions to see the Valley of the Kings and main Temples, were very interesting and well organised. We also went on an additional excursion to Abu Simbel which was an early start but certainly worth seeing. Our Egyptologist Bassam was excellent both informative and really inspiring on all excursions. Disappointed with our Welcome meeting with our Saga rep as we were informed straight away about how much to tip-sometimes in advance, would have perhaps been better to just welcome guests and allow them to settle in first. Enjoyed our time aboard the Livingstone and also the excursions available. However, quite a number of our group finished the cruise with chest infections and coughs, might have just been the weather but it seemed strange.

We went on the Nile cruise for four nights as a part of prebooked Egypt tour. We were given cabins on 'Liberty' cruise ship. It was a nice experience. The food was nice but the cakes were not fresh. They served three or four fruits on the first two days but later on it was either one or none. The restaurant staff was very polite and courteous. The cruise ship did not move on the first 24 hours and the last 24 hours. Bathrooms were old and the hygeine hose was leaking in one of the two rooms we booked. The door knobs also needed repairs. Some other minor repairs were also needed. No complementary water is served on the ship. Make sure to arrange water as 1.5 liter water bottle is available for five Egyptian pounds in stores and at the ship they charge exorbitantly. Overall it was a good experience. The sundeck was nice. The housekeeping kept the rooms clean and the restaurant staff was also efficient and friendly and the food served was tasty with a lot of variety. While on the cruise, you can have a great shopping experience by local vendors in small boats clinging to the cruise ship and selling local specialities.

After some time in Hurghada we spent a week on the “commodore” cruise boat between Luxor and Aswan. (Operator Meeting Point). Food was of a good quality and mostly the organisation was good. Night entertainment was mediocre but the majority of the time we all needed to get up early for the trips to the temples. We had a great bunch of guests which we’ve continued to keep in touch which is lovely. All age groups on the boat. No children. Great mini trips to the temples with knowledgable guides. Some points which could be improved: Fumes -First 2 nights we were still at Luxor. Being on the lower deck we were subjected to fumes from the adjoining boat, waking 3am from severe headaches. On reporting this early the next day we were told it was not their fault. We and others repeatedly complained about this issue (there was a haze in the public areas) that eventually 10pm the offending boat moved. Hair dryers - having to ask for one which most of the time was not available - when you received one you had to return it. Only 15 available on the entire boat of 77 rooms. Water - no water provided to even brush your teeth in your cabin. It should have been offer free. Tipping - Before we had even eaten a thing were were to pay £27 per Person for the service we were to receive. We had already given the porter a pound so we were a pound short, we had to get change to provide the full £54 to them. I’m not sure what would have happened should this had not been paid. I agree we should give tips but this amount should not be mandatory. We were told 75 staff were on board. There were 77 rooms, take 2 rooms off for the guides. 75 rooms and say 70 was 2 per room and 5 were single - 145 x £27 is over £50 per member of staff. We did then feel the staff hanging around near the cabins were hoping for more tips. We were wondering whether they did get the tips or not. Because their English wasn’t as good it was hard to establish this. Overall the trip was great, a real eye opener for the history behind Egypt.

ms amwaj nile cruise reviews

I went on the M/S Suntimes Nile Cruise from Aswan to Luxor in January. To be honest, the room quality exceeded my expectations (Which were low). The food was very normal/average. Nothing stood out much. It was clean, which is a plus. The staff were friendly for the most part, except during the checkout, where there was some confusion that one of the staff didn't handle well. But the issue was received nicely when I went to the reception.

We actually went for 7 days from Christmas Eve to New Year's Eve. The boat (MS Royal Esadora) was wonderful and passing palm trees and boats was quite romantic. The crew was exceptional and the restaurant (Asaad, Ahmed) and lounge were a pleasure to visit. The housekeeping staff (Hisham) made different animals on our bed every day out of pillows, towels and bed linen. We went on 14 excursions altogether and every one blew us away with with history and magnitude. Abu Simbel was well worth the trip through the desert and we even saw the sunrise in the desert! Our guide, Emad, was the most knowledgeable, helpful and endearing man we have encountered in a long time. He brought the whole holiday to life with his humour and description of Egyptology. We teamed up with with a wonderful group of tourists and had huge fun dressing up for TWO Egyptian nights on the boat. Thank you, Classic Holidays for an amazing schedule. We would do it again in a heartbeat.

ms amwaj nile cruise reviews

We stayed on the royal ruby nice boat but there are better, staff were very helpful as much as they could, one problem you have to pay for every drink including water which I think is a disgrace, You can take your own drink on the boat but only to be drank in your room. Well the worst thing is that you are not cruising all the days, you spend more time next to other boats in which you can’t open windows or curtains, you only travel for a few hour on 2 days going to Aswan and then about 10 hours on the way back from Aswan, this is all about them selling tours not the cruise.the food is not bad but could be better, they seem to have some weird way of putting foods together ie roast potatoes for breakfast and also chips, but you didn’t get any of these with dinners, lots of rice, pudding not much of and seemed to be the same every day, You end up on a 7 night cruise with 2 nights docked at Luxor 1 night stop on the way to Aswan then 2 nights in Aswan and then back to Luxor for 2 nights, I will not do this again, it was something we wanted to do and thought it would be better, but to be fair I don’t think I will go back to Egypt unless it is really cheap, as every ware you go there is someone trying there hardest to rip you of so beware.

  4. Absolute amazing experience.

Staff was friendly. Note: it only takes about 3.5 hours to drive from Aswan to Luxor, so the cruise is a slow one and for the first night, the boat doesn't move.
