Nothing But Thieves Announce Part 2 Of The North American Leg Of Their Welcome To The DCC World Tour

Facebook icon

SPORTS TEAM WILL JOIN TOUR AS  SPECIAL GUESTS ACROSS ALL DATES

New single ‘oh no :: he said what’ out now; ‘dead club city deluxe’ due out on 15 th march, general onsale begins friday, march 8 at 10 am local time on livenation.com.

Fresh off the heels of their sold out European Tour, Nothing But Thieves announce a second leg of their North American tour. Produced by Live Nation, the 21 city tour touches down Stateside in October, stops include Rooftop Pier 17 in New York, Aragon Ballroom in Chicago, Palladium in Los Angeles, and Factory Deep Ellum in Dallas. Sports Team will join as special guests across all dates. (FULL ROUTING BELOW.)

The band’s last run in the territory was completely Sold Out, and marked their first time returning to NA in five years. Nothing But Thieves’ growth as a live band continues to pick up momentum as they solidify their reputation as one of the best live modern rock acts around. It is impossible not to notice the diversity of the crowd, spanning generations at any given gig. The band’s musical talents are highlighted by the breath-taking vocals of singer Conor Mason, and yes, he really can hit those notes live.

TICKETS: Tickets will be available starting on Tuesday, March 12 via presales that will run throughout the week ahead of the general onsale beginning Friday, March 15 at 10 AM local time at LiveNation.com .

The band enjoyed an incredible 2023; their fourth album ‘Dead Club City’ charted at #1 in the UK and NL, they performed to a sold out UK tour, including two nights at London’s Wembley Arena, Radio 1 named their single ‘Welcome to the DCC’ their Hottest Record of the Year and Radio X gave them the Best Record of the Year award for their single ‘Overcome’ .

Kicking off 2024 with a bang, they came back with a new single ‘Oh No :: He Said What?’ alongside a completely Sold Out European Tour including two nights at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome which alone accounted for 34,000 tickets. Most recently, Nothing But Thieves have shared their energetic and anthemic new single ‘Oh No :: He Said What?’ alongside the announcement of a Deluxe version of their #1 album ‘ Dead Club City’ due on 15 th March via AWAL.

The band introduced a new era of Nothing But Thieves with ‘Dead Club City’ , which was recorded and produced by Nothing But Thieves guitarist Dom Craik alongside John Gilmore (production, engineering) and Mike Crossey (mixing). The concept-style album showcased their city-sized members only club, with the tracklist and overall narrative formed by different characters and story arcs from in and around the city. Using the club as a focal point, it is easy to imagine the real-world meaning behind ‘ Dead Club City’ . Themes such as advertisement, unity, internet culture, the music industry, ageing and politics, as well as escapism and change are highlighted by the alienation or privilege of a members only club.

Continuing their exploration within the club and evolving the story to introduce new chapters, ‘Dead Club City Deluxe’ features three new songs, including new single ‘Oh No :: He Said What?’ , ‘Time :: Fate :: Karma :: God’ and ‘Pure You’ . It also features Stripped versions of two of the original album’s singles ‘Overcome’ and ‘Tomorrow Is Closed’ .

Atlas Artist Group

nothing but thieves tour america

Show Review: Nothing But Thieves concludes their North American tour with show-stopping AZ performance

Another British favorite of Atlas finally made their way back across the pond for the first time in six years this week. Powerhouse rockers Nothing But Thieves brought their Welcome to the DCC Tour to an absolutely ecstatic crowd at Marquee Theatre as Arizona celebrated the band’s return.

Friends of the band Kid Kapichi took the stage first and absolutely blew the fans away from the start. The UK quartet takes heavy inspiration from punk rock and pours that energy into their hard-hitting set. Plenty of audience members were already familiar with the group and gave it their all to sing along to “5 Days On (2 Days Off)”, “Let’s Get to Work” and “Rob the Supermarket”. Nothing But Thieves guitarist Dominic Craik even joined the band for a song- a special moment on the final night of this run. The band is the epitome of cool- something you can only say when the singer successfully pulls off wearing sunglasses indoors at night.

The States haven’t seen Nothing But Thieves since pre-pandemic times and the anticipation for their return to the stage was palpable in the tightly pressed theater. The band emerged from the darkness into dramatic lighting and artful shadows to welcome everyone to Dead Club City at the top of their lungs. The band has released three albums since their last visit and they pulled heavily from these projects that never saw a proper touring cycle.

2020’s Moral Panic had plenty of time to shine after being buried under the weight of the pandemic and tracks like “Unperson” and “Impossible” hit the audience right in the heart after such a long time away. Throughout the set, balloons floated atop the crowd and the fans did their best to drown out singer Conor Mason’s roof-shattering vocals.

Unfortunately, the night was not without a dose of drama as several fans turned the pit into a brawl, stopping the set at two points to a visibly livid band. The rest of the audience closed the gaps so things could continue without violence, channeling that negative energy into a fiercer performance from NBT.

The fans love the band’s newer music, but some of the loudest cheers came when NBT threw in tracks from Broken Machine- including the title track and a show-stopping performance of “Sorry”. As it was the last night of tour, there may have been expectations of weariness from the band, but they gave just as much intensity to their set as we’d expect from the very first night. With so many fans singing along to every song, the whole group couldn’t keep the smiles off their faces and encouraged everyone to continue being involved in the show.

The balloons found their purpose for the closing number of “Pop the Balloon” before ear splitting cheers brought the band back onstage for an encore. As soon as Mason said we were going to “Amsterdam”, the night took on a wild frenzy we hadn’t seen yet- it’s more fun than ever to jump in the pit for a song that continues to blast the doors off of venues. NBT ended this North American run with a heartfelt performance of “Overcome” and, after such a life-changing night, we hope that they won’t stay away from the States so long next time.

Recent tour reviews

Nothing But Thieves are like no one else. They are young with such an energy on stage and yet, they perform like they have been on stage for years and years. Conor Mason, their lead singer, has a truly incredible voice. He can hit exceptionally high notes and you can really feel the energy and emotion he brings up when singing. They have some really great songs, which the crowds always love and even if you don't know them I guarantee you'll be dancing around (the light) to their big hits like Amsterdam, Live Like Animals and if you're lucky enough to see them play it; Painkiller.

I cannot express how much I have grown to love this band, their music, their passion for music and their evident and important investment in removing the taboo surrounding mental health. They deserve all the love they get and I hope they continue to make great music.

Watched them @ Manchester Apollo a few days ago. 4/5 stars from me, mainly because of the "killing" stage lights, which were much too powerful for my poor eyes. They played the same songs as the last setlist I could find online before the gig. I was really happy they played some of my favorite songs, like 'If I get high', 'Particles' and 'Sorry'. Even if my all time favorite song wasn't played, I still massively enjoyed the others. As the night went on there were some cool red lights and purple lights that went well with the songs, and 'Live like animals' showed a video with war scenes, Trump and Anonymous. Even if the second album didn't quite match the first one's brilliance, I totally enjoyed the gig.

What can I say, this is one of the most exciting bands of recent times. If you haven't seen them live at festivals or at local venues then you need to get yourself along to check them out. The band's lyrics, their tight and eclectic mix of guitars and Radiohead like songs (some of them) make them such a great live act. Connor's voice is just out of this world.

At one of the world's best music venues and at one of the world's toughest crowds that don't take sh*te (remember Liam walked off stage here with Oasis after someone threw a bottle at him for being a prat) it's fitting that such a great group had the floor bouncing to songs like Amsterdam, I Was Just a Kid, I'm Not Made By Design and Live Like Animals while giving some great melodic and heart felt lyrics from songs like Sorry and Particles it was a pleasure to hear this great band.

I'm looking forward to bigger and better things from this superb band and looking forward to seeing them again!

The Japanese art of kintsugi is to take something broken and make it more beautiful than before; shards of ceramic put back together with gold-flecked glue, the cracks a proud part of the object. It’s a concept that’s central to Broken Machine, the second album from Southend-formed, South-east-based five-piece Nothing But Thieves, whose slow-burning self-titled 2015 debut made them a big deal worldwide– but fractured them too. That debut album found fans in foreign territories first, from Korea to Japan, the States and Europe, and gained the young band respect from pillars of the modern rock community – among them Muse, who took them out as support band on their 2016 arena tour. When the album campaign came to an end in December last year, it was marked with a celebratory homecoming headline gig at landmark venue O2 Academy Brixton - a sure sign that the UK had caught up. “It was a real moment to reflect,” says frontman Conor Mason. “We went to school together. We started playing in [guitarist Dom Craik’s] garage together. Now we're playing Brixton together, somewhere we’ve been thousands of times over the years to see bands.”

As well as being a celebration, the end of the tour was a relief too. Fearful of the dreaded ‘second album slump’, Nothing But Thieves spent two years on the road working on the follow-up to their debut, and recorded swathes of it while touring America.

“I was really struggling with the whole lack of sleep and being away on the road for a year straight,” says Conor. “I had so many conversations with the guys about it; I remember getting home from this long stretch, seven months, and thinking, 'I don't know if I can do this any more, I'm losing my mind.’ Everything was just a struggle for us but these guys really helped me through it more than anything – because I felt like if I didn't get their support I wouldn’t have wanted to continue. It affected us in terms of what we wanted to put out for this next album. I like that in that hard time we've come out with a few songs about it, turning something really dark into something quite beautiful.”

The experience – turning personal unravelling into a shared experience – informed the record they were making. Feeling the way they did, and reacting to the growing uncertainty in the world around them, Nothing But Thieves began to construct an album that revolved around a theme: systems of control. It’s an album fuelled equally by late night discussions about the big stuff in life and by falling into YouTube wormholes watching clips of the radical orator Christopher Hitchins. In real terms, it means they’ve absorbed the big issues of the day and spat them out as fully formed anthems.

Among them are kinetic title track Broken Machine, the anthemic Sorry and the escapist fantasy Amsterdam, the storming song with which the band announced their return. “It’s about being enclosed and frustrated,” says Conor, “That lyric 'I left my heart in Amsterdam' was us thinking, ‘That might be the end of it...’”

“We didn't set out to write a concept album, but it's as close to a concept album as we could go without making one,” says Joe. “It's about systems we perceive to be automatic but when you actually look at them, they really aren't, whether that's mental health, religion, the political system – just challenging those systems. When you're writing an album it's a snapshot of the times. If you're writing an album in 2016, 2017, you're going to write about Trump and Brexit and mental health. I think you'd be doing yourself and everyone else a disservice if politics wasn't referenced in some way.”

Though written on the road, the album was chiselled into shape in the early months of 2017. Armed with 90 percent of a record in well-polished demos, they took off to an AirBnB in Hastings, set up a studio for a week, and even performed an acoustic gig for their dinner at a local pub. They then took the demos to producer Mike Crossey, famed for his work on Arctic Monkeys’ second album, among many others, and described by Dom as “creative, inventive, fearless and calm,” and worked on the finished record in LA.

Together they crafted the band’s demos into 11 tracks that, like the debut, celebrate eclecticism and songcraft. “We weren't setting out to write something completely different, but I would say we experimented more, tried to push the boundaries, tried to capture something that pushed us outside of our comfort zone,” says Dom. “If a song made us feel a bit odd, that's good.” In fact, it’s that spirit that motivates them. “The mantra of the band is to not regurgitate any ideas,” says Conor.

Less of a consideration is whether their songs are arena-ready anthems, despite road testing their last collection while on tour with Muse. That, they say, will come naturally. “It shouldn’t be a conscious thing to write those kinds of songs. Sorry and Particles could be deemed big arena songs, but they could equally have been tiny and indie – we didn't set out to write them as massive tunes.”

Actually, say the band, they hope simply to keep growing as they have in those incredible two years since their debut. Their main goal is more noble. “We're a guitar band with a really modern take on music,” says Conor. “We're trying to be on the forefront. We play guitars, but we're not a rock band in the traditional way, because we're trying to modernise and push the boundaries of what you're supposed to sound like as a band.”
