95 most inspirational travel quotes ever penned
Our favourite inspirational travel quotes have encouraged us to travel with abandon over the years. Perhaps they will do the same for you…
For us, there is no such thing as luxury travel; travel is, by default, a luxury. It is a privilege provided by the country of our birth, a privilege that many are not as fortunate to enjoy.
Sometimes, we have to pinch ourselves at just how ridiculous our lives have become: an ex-teacher and jobbing writer travelling the world for a living. It is absurd, it is astonishing, it is luxury.
When I first went travelling at 21 years old, my father gave me this quote scrawled on a piece of card.
It infused me with wanderlust. It encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone, make the most of my time, see the world and enjoy the freedom that comes with being on the road. It remains one of the most inspirational travel quotes I’ve read (even if Twain did not actually say it).
Today, 20 years and almost 100 countries later, it’s still in my wallet. Despite its tattered and dishevelled appearance, it’s every bit as important to me now as it was then.
With that in mind, we’ve collated our most beloved inspirational travel quotes to encourage readers to “explore, dream and discover” for themselves.

Wow, what a great list of travel quotes you’ve had in your blog post. Anyway, of everything you’ve shared in your post, this is by far my favorite quote “”Traveling—it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta.
If ever there was a quote that unites the entire community of travel writers… that would be it.

35 Alice in Wonderland Quotes That Will Transport You Through the Looking Glass
Posted: November 4, 2023 | Last updated: November 4, 2023
Curiouser and curiouser Alice in Wonderland quotes
The timeless classic Alice's Adventures in Wonderland offers bookworms of every age a whimsical escape from the ordinary. Lewis Carroll led readers headfirst into the topsy-turvy world of Wonderland, a place where logic takes a backseat and the laws of reality are merely suggestions. Whether you're a seasoned wanderer of Wonderland or a curious newcomer, you'll find something undeniably magical within the pages of this story. It's why Alice in Wonderland quotes are so enduring.
Book quotes are one of the ways I love to quickly re-immerse myself in the whimsy of my favorite books . To give you a quick Alice fix, I've collected dozens of Alice in Wonderland quotes from the original book and its sequel, Through the Looking-Glass . I've also thrown in some quotes from the film adaptations, which are as wonderfully weird as their source material. Grab your teacup, put on your most eccentric hat and prepare for a journey as we explore the profound and peculiar words of Carroll's masterpiece.

Travel ETF (AWAY) Hits a New 52-Week High
Amplify Travel Tech ETF ( AWAY Quick Quote AWAY - Free Report ) is probably on the radar for investors seeking momentum. The fund just hit a 52-week high and moved up 38.39% from its 52-week low price of $14.95/share.
Are more gains in store for this ETF? Let us take a quick look at the fund and the near-term outlook on it to get a better idea of where it might be headed.
AWAY in Focus
The underlying Prime Travel Technology Index NTR tracks the performance of globally exchange-listed equity securities engaged in the travel technology business, which provides technology via Internet & Internet-connected devices such as mobile phones, to facilitate travel bookings & reservations, ride sharing & hailing, travel price comparison and travel advice. The product charges 75 bps in annual fees (see: all Industrials ETFs ).
Why the Move?
This corner of the broad market has been an area to watch lately, given the pick-up in travel. The Fed’s dovish stance and estimates of an interest rate cut in June 2024 bode well for the sector, as a fall in the interest rate may lead to increased discretionary spending by consumers. Estimation of global air passenger traffic doubling by 2042 is another positive factor for the fund.
More Gains Ahead?
It might continue its strong performance in the near term, with a positive weighted alpha of 22.89 , which indicates a further rally.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 28, 2024)—After an early spring surge, the national average for a gallon of gas spent the past week drifting up and down by a fraction of a cent before settling a penny higher at $3.53. But the break may be temporary, as gas pump prices will likely resume a spring increase.
“Uncertainty of the impact of Ukraine’s targeting of Russia’s oil infrastructure likely spiked oil prices recently,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “But those concerns have abated somewhat for now, and gas prices are settling into a pattern similar to last year when the usual seasonal increase was slow and steady.”

Car insurance rates are at a 50-year high. Here's 3 ways you can keep your costs low, according to an expert
- American car insurance rates have reached a 50-year high, outpacing inflation.
- Higher premiums and deductibles are driven by the climate crisis and increased accident risk.
- Drivers should prioritize safety, research insurance policies, and apply for discounts to save money.
American car insurance rates have hit a 50-year high, and drivers are paying the price.
Insurance has far outpaced the rate of inflation , with the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting that vehicle insurance costs were 20.3% higher in December 2023 than in December 2022. For drivers, this means higher premiums and deductibles.
Rising rates are caused by a few key factors, said Laura Longero, executive editor of insurance at the marketing firm QuinStreet. Insurance companies are seeing more claims related to crashes , thefts , and the climate crisis .
"All of these work together to create a situation where car insurance is a lot more expensive," she said.
Many insurers lowered rates at the beginning of the pandemic because fewer drivers were on the road, Longero said. As traffic has returned, she said crashes have become more frequent and severe. Crash fatalities hit a 16-year high in 2021, the US Department of Transportation found, and preliminary 2023 data suggests that crash rates have remained above 2020 reports.
There was also a 25% increase in vehicle thefts between 2019 to 2022. What's more, the supply chain costs to repair or replace vehicle parts from accidents or theft is expensive, Longero said.
Additionally, the state drivers live in — and the local impact of the climate crisis — has a significant effect on car insurance rates. Insurance companies are hesitant to insure drivers and homeowners in regions with frequent natural disasters, Longero said.
There were 131 climate events in the US between 2010 and 2020 that exceeded $1 billion in damages , a 51% increase from the previous decade. Longero said because of these growing climate risks, she expects rates to stay high.
To keep costs as low as possible, Longero recommends drivers travel safely and do their research.
Prioritize safety when behind the wheel
Not only is safe driving important to avoid collisions, it also saves drivers money. According to personal finance company NerdWallet, full coverage car insurance premiums nearly double if a driver is at fault for a crash.
Tickets for speeding, texting while driving, or driving under the influence are likely to raise a driver's insurance premiums.

Longero said she often uses an app that tracks her harsh braking, how many times she checks her phone, and other data to demonstrate safe driving behavior to her insurer.
The type of vehicle a person drives also determines their insurance prices. Longero said insurance rates are generally lower for bigger vehicles, cars with lots of safety features, and car brands that have high safety ratings. Family-friendly cars typically cost less to insure, she said.
"Sedans are smaller and they typically cost more to insure," Longero said. "They are more likely to sustain greater damage in an accident with a big truck or SUV."
Research which car insurance plan is right for you
Longero suggests that drivers get three-to-five updated insurance quotes every year.
Car insurance rates are higher for families with teenagers, with rates going up 70% to 150% once someone under 18 is added to a family car insurance policy.
Still, Longero said some insurance companies have lower price options for married couples or vehicles with a high safety rating. Car insurance might also be cheaper if drivers bundle their auto policy with their homeowner , renter , or life insurance .
Drivers can sometimes get a cheaper car insurance rate by switching insurers, Longero said. And some policy specifics vary by state.
"We always encourage people to check with their insurer to make sure they're getting all the discounts they qualify for," she said.
She also urged drivers to check that their car insurance policy includes strong liability insurance , in case they were ever at fault for a "worst case scenario" major accident.
Take advantage of insurer discounts
To make the most of their policy, Longero said drivers should apply for insurer discounts. Keeping a clean accident or ticket record, staying loyal to a specific insurance company, and installing extra safety features in a car can help drivers save money.
Parents can lower costs for teenage drivers by applying for "good student" discounts, she said, and some people can get professional discounts based on their job or commute frequency.
"If you work from home now and used to commute, maybe talk to your insurance company," Longero said. "Typically if you're driving less than 10,000 miles a year, you can save a little bit on your policy that way."
Longero said drivers should also regularly take inventory of their insurance policy and drop coverage that they no longer need.

9 things to know when taking a taxi overseas.

Illuminated Taxi Signs on Maximilian street, Close up, Munich, Bavaria, Germany
Culture shock can affect your life in unexpected ways when you move overseas. Something as innocuous as taking a taxi can suddenly become a stressful experience.
Country to country, the protocols for hailing a taxi, arranging payment (whether you negotiate a price with the driver beforehand or use the meter), how you travel (whether you’ll be the sole passenger or the driver will pick up more passengers en route), and more can vary.
Navigating these differences while staying safe and getting a fair price as you journey from A to B can be complex. While well-traveled folks might advise you to avoid taking a taxi overseas altogether, sometimes they’re the only option.
Here are some guidelines to help make the most of taking a taxi overseas.
#1 - Make Sure The Meter Works
Every country has a different approach to pricing taxi rides.
Most North Americans are used to taxi meters, which determine prices by measuring time and distance covered. Rates vary from area to area.
In much of the rest of the world, taxi meters are not a given. Even if you’re in a country that has them, they may not be working properly.
It’s good practice to check with the driver when you get in his taxi and then verify yourself that it’s working.

This popular google app will stop working in 3 days how to migrate your data, ufc fight night results fighter suffers rare self inflicted ko loss.
The alternative—assuming the meter works properly—can land you in a situation where the driver just charges whatever he wants on arrival, and it usually won’t be a fair price.
#2 - Research The Average Fares
Getting a ballpark idea of how much you should spend on the average taxi ride in the place that you’re visiting can help you avoid being ripped off.
Instead of using the meter, some cities assign flat rates for specific routes. In Medellín, Colombia, for example, a ride from the José María Córdoba International Airport to the city center always costs 110,000 Colombian pesos (about $28).
Most taxi drivers here won’t try to get more out of you, but it’s good to know the flat rate in case one does.
In other cities, like Panama City, Panama, the price of the journey is determined through a negotiation between you and the driver. Ask around to find out roughly how much you should pay to go from neighborhood to neighborhood.
#3 - Decide On The Price Before You Get In
If you have to negotiate your fare with the driver, make sure you come to an agreement before getting in their taxi.
If you look different from the average person from that country or don’t speak the local language well, there’s a good chance that the driver will inflate the price drastically (what we refer to as “gringo pricing” in Latin America).
Don’t accept a ride or get into a taxi without knowing the driver’s fee, in case he plans on charging a ridiculous amount. I’ve heard stories of drivers becoming aggressive if the passenger tries to negotiate at the point of arrival at their destination.
When negotiating the price, if you’re not sure how much you should pay, start by cutting the driver’s suggested amount in half. Have a maximum amount in mind that you’re not willing to go beyond.
If the driver doesn’t like your price, he’ll simply move on, and you’ll catch the next taxi.
#4 - Will You Be The Sole Passenger?
In North America, we take it for granted that we’ll be the sole passenger on any taxi journey and travel straight from the place where we were picked up to the place we want to go.
This isn’t always the case overseas. Don’t be surprised if you’re taking a taxi in South Africa, Panama, or Greece, for instance, and the driver pulls over several times en route to pick up more passengers.
Shared taxis are common around the world. In Latin America, they’re often called colectivos .
Fares are usually lower than they are for private journeys, but be aware that they are slower-going (as the driver detours to drop everyone off), and you’ll share the taxi’s space with strangers.
#5 - Decide What Safety Level You’re Comfortable With
Different countries have different standards when it comes to car safety. In some countries, car safety is non-existent or not enforced.
Safety features like seatbelts, air bags, anti-lock breaking systems, and so on are not a given in any taxi overseas.
Old cars that have been patched together with duct tape, ropes, and bungee cords are not uncommon. I’ve been in taxis that are so rundown, you can see the asphalt through holes in the floor.
Poor safety standards in cars is an unfortunate reality in much of the developing world. As a passenger, you have to decide what level of risk you’re willing to accept before you get into a taxi.
#6 - Beware Of Over-Solicitous Taxi Drivers
Taxi drivers tend to be well-connected. If you want to do something, they can arrange it for you. If you want to buy something in particular, they can source it for you.
Many drivers double as tour guides. I’ve had taxi drivers try to sell me tours, for instance, in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. This is common in Latin America.
Being upsold a tour, experience, or knickknack isn’t necessarily a bad thing. You can get great deals and have amazing experiences this way.
But it’s good to be aware of the possibility of a sales pitch so that you’re not caught off-guard.
#7 - Have Cash In Small Bills Handy
Don’t assume that you can pay by credit or debit card in any taxi overseas. Cash is still king across most of the world.
If you’re paying in cash, it’s a good idea to have a handful of small bills available. If you hand the driver a large bill, they may assume you can pay more than you need to or conveniently not have the correct change.
Also, you should keep the bills you’ll use to pay for the ride separate from the rest of your money to avoid flashing everyone else in the car how much cash you’re carrying. Opportunists are everywhere.
In Panama, for instance, getting robbed as the result of having taken a taxi is sadly common. Even locals prefer using an alternative to a yellow cab in Panama because of this.
#8 - Keep Your Window Rolled Up
Safety levels vary from destination to destination, but it’s a good idea to stay vigilant no matter where you’re visiting and to keep your window rolled up.
In Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, it’s common for thieves on motorcycles to snatch valuables—purses left on seats, phones from hands—from open car windows.
This can happen anywhere, but it’s especially common in tourist-heavy cities with lots of traffic. Even if it’s hot and the car doesn’t have air conditioning (which is common), you should still leave your window up.
#9 - Make Sure You’re Getting The Ride You Want
Ride-hailing apps have proliferated across the world. Do a little research to see what’s used locally—whether it’s one of the brand-name apps or a local equivalent.
Many people, locals and tourists alike, prefer to use ride-hailing apps over regular taxis because they’re generally safer. Any journey you take will be logged in the app’s system, and the driver will have a track record that you can check out beforehand.
Apps can also help you avoid being ripped off because they base prices on factors like the distance you want to travel and the time of day you request a ride, rather than what you look like or whether you have an accent.
Many regular taxi drivers also work for the apps, so make sure the details of the driver who picks you match the information displayed on the app.
It’s not uncommon for taxi drivers to call out things like “Uber” or “Lyft” to lure unsuspecting passengers who think they correspond to one of the apps.
