Arena Youth Tour

Young riders get the chance to develop into the next generation of international riders

First launched ahead of the 2020/2021 winter season, the Arena Youth Tour is a joint jumping tour for young adults, where qualified horse and rider combinations get to start at both the Sweden International Horse Show and at the Gothenburg Horse Show.

The tour is a long-term initiative, in line with the ambitions of the two events and the Swedish Equestrian Federation to develop Swedish riding. During autumn, four qualifiers bring out the best 16 combinations comprising of juniors and young riders in equal parts. These riders are then invited to the Autumn final at the Sweden International Horse Show, where the four best juniors and the four best young riders from the Autumn Final qualify directly to the Spring Final during the Gothenburg Horse Show in Scandinavium Arena.  There are then two additional chances to qualify to the Gothenburg Horse Show by means of Second Chance and Last Chance. A total of 16 riders will start the Spring Final in Scandinavium Arena.

During the Gothenburg Horse Show, one final winner of the Arena Youth Tour is announced. If the same rider succeeds in winning both the Autumn Final and the Spring Final, an extra bonus is awarded.

This concept provides the country’s young riders with one joint series that aims to inspire and develop the next generation of international riders. The opportunity for young riders to start in arenas such as Friends Arena or Scandinavium, alongside the world’s best riders, provides them with invaluable experience.

Henrik Lannér has responsibility for juniors and young riders in the context of the national team, and he is positive about the concept. “ From the point of view of the jumping leadership, we are delighted by the Arena Youth Tour, as it gives our young adults the opportunity to start at these elite international competitions. It is an unbeatable experience to be able to ride in front of a large audience and to be included in this international environment, and it provides our young riders with a clear goal ahead of the domestic season.”

The classes for the juniors in 1.40 and young riders in 1.45. The riders use the same courses, and prizes are awarded jointly.

Hoppning – Arena Youth Tour

Höstfinal i Arena Youth Tour

Under Sweden International Horse Show möts sexton kvalade ekipage – juniorer och young riders – i Höstfinalen i Arena Youth Tour. Därefter går tävlingen vidare till Vårfinalen under Gothenburg Horse Show i februari.

Totalt får 16 ungdomsryttare starta Vårfinalen under Gothenburg Horse Show.

arena youth tour 2022

NRECA’s Electric Cooperative Youth Tour returns to the nation’s capital this year with a few changes after a two-year absence due to COVID-19.

About 1,300 Youth Tour delegates and chaperones will attend in two separate groups over a 10-day period to minimize crowding: June 14-19 and June 19-24.

This year’s group is smaller than in previous years for pandemic-related and budget reasons, said Beth Knudson, NRECA’s youth programs and training manager. Co-ops in 28 states are participating, compared to 43 to 44 states in typical years. Several states have chosen to hold in-state events this year as an alternative to sending delegates to Washington.

“We are so excited to welcome these young leaders back to D.C., after our two-year absence,” said Beth Knudson, NRECA’s youth programs and training manager. “We will have our usual programming and activities—they will just be modified to accommodate the new group sizes and timelines. We are BACK, baby!”

Tennessee co-ops usually sponsor one of the largest delegations, but the state is bringing 49 students this year, compared to 185 in 2019, said Todd Blocker, vice president of member relations at Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association in Nashville and main tour organizer.

“In order to make the logistics a little more manageable and to ease our Youth Tour team back into the event, we limited each co-op to just three delegates,” said Blocker. “We had a few co-ops elect not to participate in the 2022 tour, so those spots were reassigned to other co-ops.”

The formal Youth Day program will return this year but will take place three times—twice on June 18 and once on June 20. Presenters include NRECA CEO Jim Matheson, NRECA President Chris Christensen and inspirational speaker Mike Schlappi, a wheelchair basketball player who has appeared in four consecutive summer Paralympic Games.

Other activities include a revamped Co-op 101 and advocacy program, as well as welcome and farewell events. The familiar “Blue Shirts,” past Youth Tour participants, will be on hand as well.

Youth Tour planners hope that a return to Washington will help rebuild a pipeline of interested students, with 2022 delegates promoting the program in their schools. Momentum flagged a bit after 2019 Youth Tour alumni graduated, organizers said.

“We feel like we’re starting a brand-new program in some ways because we need to educate new teachers and many co-op youth program coordinators have retired,” said Shana Read, director of education and training at Kansas Electric Cooperatives and the state’s main Youth Tour organizer. Instead of traveling to D.C., this year, 17 delegates from 11 Kansas co-ops are participating in a three-day leadership conference in Topeka.

In the meantime, past Youth Tour chaperones are looking forward to seeing D.C. again through new sets of eyes.

“We all know the impact that Youth Tour can have on young people, and we are thrilled to be able to help these delegates learn more about public policy, history, leadership and cooperatives,” said Blocker.

IRENA Youth Forum

Youth engagement.

IRENA strategically engages youth through various initiatives that follow the vision of empowering young leaders in the energy transition. Since 2020 it has been hosting its annual Youth Forum, a platform for innovative dialogue among young people and global pioneers accelerating the role of youth in the energy transition.

2022 IRENA Youth Forum

The 2022 IRENA Youth Forum was guided by the theme Youth-led solutions to accelerate the energy transition and achieve climate objectives. The forum highlighted the role of young people in identifying and developing solutions that can promote and accelerate renewables-based energy transitions to achieve climate targets and other sustainable development goals. It also connected young people with global thought leaders, government representatives and IRENA experts, enabling them to identify the essential areas that require youth’s support and contribution for the advancement of a global energy transition.

Young leaders from around the world issued a clear call for action at the 2022 IRENA Youth Forum. On the sidelines of the 12 th session of the IRENA Assembly in January, over 400 young energy leaders gathered virtually and called on organisations, governments, the private sector, academia and civil society to take urgent action to ensure that the energy transition is led by young people.

Youth representatives who were engaged in the discussion developed a document they presented to the IRENA Assembly, sharing feedback and inputs and highlighting actionable steps for youth to advance the energy transition through innovative solutions.

2021 IRENA Youth Forum

The second edition of the IRENA Youth Forum, entitled The New Generation of Decision Makers, took place on 14 January 2021 on the margins of the 11 th session of the IRENA Assembly. In response to travel restrictions prompted by the pandemic, the Youth Forum was held virtually — allowing youth from all over world to engage with discussions on the challenges and opportunities of this year’s theme: Promoting an Inclusive and Just Energy Transition.

Through a series of interactive sessions, the forum provided an opportunity for participants to engage in discussions on promoting an inclusive and just global energy transition. It also served to strengthen the existing network of young energy leaders with the latest insights from the renewable sector. Young people created a connection with global thought leaders, government representatives and IRENA experts to identify the space for youth to contribute to the deployment of renewable energy and promote a fair and equal energy transition.

2020 IRENA Youth Forum

IRENA’s inaugural Youth Forum was held on 10 January 2020 on the margins of the Agency’s 10 th Assembly. Structured under the theme Renewables beyond 2030: The Key Role of Youth in the Global Energy Transformation , the Agency’s first major event for and by youth recognised the vital role that young people play in achieving climate stability, advancing the sustainable development agenda and transforming the use of energy.

A series of interactive sessions generated the exchange of ideas among youth delegates, and between youth, government representatives and other thought leaders in the energy transition. Participants were able to make valued contributions to the global energy discourse, while identifying ways for youth to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the renewable energy sector, allowing them to amplify their voices and actions in support of renewables.

The IRENA Youth Forum also showcased how increasing the share of renewables in the global energy mix can be an effective instrument to address socio-economic challenges, support the development of innovative solutions and accelerate global efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Missouri State Fair cancels 2024 arena events due to construction of new arena

S EDALIA, Mo. — The director of the Missouri State Fair announced Thursday that all events typically held in the State Fair Arena will be canceled for 2024.

Organizers made the decision because of the construction of a new indoor facility that will take the place of the existing fairgrounds arena.

Missouri State Fair Director Jason Moore said he’s upset they won’t be able to host some events but is excited for the future of the fair.

“It saddens us that we won’t be able to host events like rodeo, bull riding, demolition derby, motocross, TT races and the antique, classic and garden tractor pulls,” Moore said.

“This project represents a significant investment in the Fair’s future, and we can’t wait to welcome these events and more back once construction is complete.”

According to a news release, the new complex will provide a space for a wide range of events year-round and during the annual state fair — from livestock shows to conferences, trade shows, community gatherings and more.

The Missouri State Fair is scheduled from Aug. 8-18 in Sedalia.

Reds 2024 season preview: Projected lineup, rotation and which young potential stars are ready to step up

The reds improved by 20 wins last season. can youth keep them moving in the right direction.

edlc-usatsi.png

After losing 100 games in 2022, the Reds were 21-29 heading to Memorial Day weekend last season. Then they won five in a row before four straight losses and went on a run to become the toast of baseball for a quick second, winning 15 of their next 17 games.

The 11-10 win over the Braves on June 23 was their 12th straight victory and gave the Reds a 1 1/2 game lead in the NL Central. A few weeks later, they headed to Milwaukee with a two-game lead over the Brewers . In two series wrapped around the All-Star break, the Brewers would beat the Reds in five of six games. The Reds still had a few ups and were in first place as late as Aug. 2, but the beginning of the turn for the worst was that six-gamer against the eventual division champs.

In all, though, the Reds improved by a whopping 20 games from 2022 to 2023 and they did so with an unusually large crop of rookies. Three players ( Matt McLain , Spencer Steer and Elly De La Cruz ) received Rookie of the Year votes while several other rookies ( Andrew Abbott and Christian Encarnacion-Strand chief among them) made major contributions.

In the offseason, the Reds added Jeimer Candelario to give them a veteran switch hitter in the middle of the order while also beefing up the rotation and bullpen with multiple signings.

They haven't made the playoffs in a full season since 2013 and haven't won the NL Central since 2012. They'll look to this group to snap those droughts. Further, they haven't advanced past a playoff round since 1995. That's the task facing this young core.

Win total projection, odds

  • 2023 record: 82-80 (third in NL Central)
  • 2024 SportsLine over/under win total: 80.5
  • World Series odds (via SportsLine): +5500

Projected lineup

  • Matt McLain, 2B
  • Elly De La Cruz, SS
  • Spencer Steer, LF
  • Jake Fraley , RF
  • Jeimer Candelario, 3B
  • Jonathan India , DH
  • Christian Encarnacion-Strand, 1B
  • Will Benson , CF
  • Tyler Stephenson , C

Outfielder TJ Friedl is unfortunately opening the season on the injured list due to a broken wrist. He'll be back and see plenty of playing time before we know it. Also, Noelvi Marte is suspended for 80 games due to a PED violation, but that still leaves a touch over half the season once he's back.

Projected rotation

  • RHP Frankie Montas
  • RHP Hunter Greene
  • RHP Graham Ashcraft
  • RHP Nick Martinez
  • LHP Andrew Abbott

Talented lefty Nick Lodolo is working his way back from a stress reaction. Assuming everyone above is healthy once he's ready for a return, it'll be interesting to see how they shuffle things, possibly with Martinez heading to the bullpen. Brandon Williamson is also in the mix here.

Projected bullpen

  • Closer: RHP Alexis Díaz
  • Setup: RHP Emilio Pagán, RHP Lucas Sims
  • Middle: RHP Fernando Cruz , RHP Buck Farmer , LHP Justin Wilson , RHP Tejay Antone
  • Long: LHP Brent Suter

Sam Moll and Ian Gibaut are injured right now but will see plenty of action.

How do the kids hold up?

The starting lineup has a ton of talent. Are they collectively ready for the grind of 162, though? Remember, most talented prospects on contending teams are surrounded by veterans who have succeeded in the majors before. Perhaps it's one of the reasons the Reds signed Candelario. There are a good number of very talented players with questions hanging over their heads, though.

  • McLain looks like a stud. He also only has 89 games of MLB experience and he's already banged up.
  • De La Cruz looks like an MVP sometimes. He's also only played in 98 games and hit .186/.284/.288 in his last 32.
  • Encarnacion-Strand has 63 MLB games under his belt.
  • Steer played a full season, but still just the one.
  • Benson still only has 390 career plate appearances. Friedl has only one full season and now he's hurt. Fraley has never been close to a full-time player.

Again, there's so much upside. The list of contending teams heading into a year with so many key players having so little MLB experience is incredibly short. It'll be fun to watch from the outside, but I suspect there will be a few more growing pains.

Breakout season for Greene leads rotation?

With a 5.43 starting pitcher ERA last season, only the A's and Rockies had statistically worse rotation work. That will almost certainly change in 2024 behind a developing ace.

Heading to his age-24 season, Greene has already battled several bouts of injury. He's also already made 46 big-league starts and has shown flashes of the ace-level ceiling that got him drafted second overall out of high school. He struck out 152 in 112 innings last season and he seems ready to break out as a star in 2024.

If he does, things fall nicely around him.

Montas has frontline starter ability and showed it as recently as the first half of 2022. Maybe the Sonny Gray route here is a good luck charm for the Reds (good in Oakland, bad for Yankees , freed from New York by Cincy)?

Abbott had a really nice rookie year. He was exceptional through 10 starts, though he only had a few bad ones all season. Ashcraft had a terrible run in parts of May and June last year, but fixed things down the stretch. He had a 2.58 ERA in his last 12 starts.

And, of course, there's the tease job that has been Lodolo so far. He only managed seven starts last season and was a mixed bag (two awful starts ruined his stat line, but there was also a 12-strikeout outing in Philly in which he threw seven scoreless innings).

The rose-colored glasses view of this rotation is Greene and Lodolo pitching like aces while Montas looks like he did in Oakland in 2021-22, Abbott parties like it's 2023 and Ashcraft throws like he did in his last 12 starts. That would be one of the better rotations in the league.

Regardless, they won 82 games last season with Luke Weaver taking 21 starts and Ben Lively getting 12. Things should be a lot more steady and less patchwork in 2024. With what looks like a quality bullpen, things are looking up for the Reds on the mound.

What would make for a successful season?

A 20-game leap in victories won't be happening again, but the Reds only missed the playoffs by two games last season and there are a good number of reasons to believe they'll be better, notably with the rotation. I suspect the offense will be inconsistent, but there will be weeks where they look like the most powerful group of hitters in baseball.

I don't think the Reds necessarily have to make the playoffs for this season to be a success, but they do need to see growth from at least half -- probably more like 75ish% -- of their young players to figure this one a success without the playoffs.

Then again, if the Reds see growth from an overwhelming majority of players like De La Cruz, McLain, Greene, Lodolo, Encarnacion-Strand, Marte (once off his suspension), Abbott, Ashcraft and Steer, they'll surely be a playoff team, right?

I think so. I'll say making the playoffs is the short answer, then.

How elite are the wrestlers who participate in the Battle of Waterloo?

The Battle of Waterloo is the No. 1 dual meet in the state, bringing Iowa’s best high school teams together for an exciting competition each year. In the 2019 event, 15 of the 32 teams were ranked in the Top 10 in the  IAWrestle Rankings,  with 121 ranked individual wrestlers in the field, including 19 No. 1-ranked wrestlers. Many Battle of Waterloo wrestlers go on the IHSAA’s State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines. For example, the 2020 state championships included 153 Battle of Waterloo participants with 94 state place winners, 34 state finalists and 15 state champions. All three state championship teams – 1A, 2A, and 3A – wrestled in the Battle of Waterloo. As we like to say, the road to the state championships runs right through the Battle of Waterloo!

What is the format of the Battle of Waterloo?

It is a two-day dual meet. On Day 1, teams are seeded and placed in one of four standard eight-team brackets. Two of these brackets compete in a morning session and two compete in an evening session. Those matches determine each team’s place in Day 2’s round-robin championship brackets. Each of the four qualifying teams will compete in a Division 1 group to determine 1-4 positions. The four runner-up teams from the first day will compete in Division 2 for 5-8 positions, and so on. Groups 5-8 wrestle in the morning, with groups 1-4 competing in the afternoon.

What Is the format of the Battle of Waterloo Girls Division?

The 2023 BOW 24-Team Girls Division will compete on Thursday. The girls teams will compete in 3 8-Team Brackets starting at 9:00AM and then will be placed in 3-Team pools based on the place in the Bracket Competition. There will be 8 pools consisting of 3 1st place teams, 3 2nd place teams, through 8th place teams. The pool matches will take place Thursday afternoon/evening.

How are the teams seeded?

The Battle of Waterloo seeding committee meets on the Sunday prior to the tournament and reviews current rankings and records to seed the tournament.

When will the brackets be out?

Tournament brackets are released the Sunday before the tournament after the seeding committee meets to seed the tournament. We will post the brackets on this website and on our Facebook page.

Just as they have done 10 times before under head coach Cael Sanderson, the Penn State Nittany Lions captured the Division I national title.

This time, though, Penn State made a little extra history in its victory.

The Nittany Lions put eight athletes on the podium including four national champions, two runner-ups and two additional place winners.

FINAL BRACKET | FINAL TEAM SCORES

Carter Starocci and Aaron Brooks headlined the success for the Blue and White, winning their fourth NCAA titles to become the sixth and seventh athletes to do so in NCAA wrestling . Starocci's win came by way of a 2-0 decision against No. 6 Rocco Welsh of Ohio State via an escape point and a stall point, but that was all he needed to finish on top once again. Aaron Brooks followed Starocci's footsteps, becoming the seventh four-time NCAA champ in history and the second for Penn State with his win over Hidlay 6-1.

Heavyweight Greg Kerkvliet added a title at heavyweight, his first, with a 13-4 major decision of Lucas Davison in a match in which he did not give up a single offensive point. He set a tone of total domination.

The Nittany Lions produced another national champ at 157 pounds as No. 1 Levi Haines completed his undefeated season with a strategic 4-0 shutout against No. 2 Jacori Teemer.

Penn State's No. 2 Beau Bartlett and No. 2 Mitchell Mesenbrink finished as runner-ups, as No. 1 Jesse Mendez of Ohio State topped Bartlett 4-1 at 141 pounds, and Mesenbrink fell to Iowa State's No. 4 David Carr at 165 pounds 9-8. Carr's win gave him his second title for the Cyclones, the first of which came in his freshman season at 157 pounds.

The Nittany Lions weren't the only team with historic moments on Saturday night, though. The Virginia Tech Hokies crowned just the second national champion in program history as No. 4 Caleb Henson turned up the offense at 149 pounds and earned a 15-7 bonus-point win over Michigan's No. 6 Austin Gomez, the 2024 Olympic rep for Mexico at 65kg. Henson is not only the second Hokie to finish on top of the podium in program history, but he is also the first national champion in NCAA wrestling history from the state of Georgia. His win is one of four podium finishers for the Hokies as part of their standout weekend in Kansas City.

Arizona State, Cornell and Northern Iowa will also leave the Show-Me State with one champ each. Sun Devil 125-pounder Richard Figueroa earned his first national championship by way of a 7-2 victory against Iowa's Drake Ayala, while Cornell's No. 6 Vito Arujau topped four-time NCAA finalist No. 1 Daton Fix of Oklahoma State at 133 pounds 5-3 for his second title and No. 1 Parker Keckeisen bonused No. 3 Dustin Plott of Oklahoma State at 184 pounds.

This very well could be a one-takedown match, but somebody has to shoot first to make something happen. Shot from Figueroa. Takedown Figueroa! Ayala tried to scramble out on the edge, but the refs call for three points. The refs will review. "A-S-U" chants break out from the left side of the arena. What a clutch takedown from the Sun Devil! Iowa challenges. Call confirmed.

FIRST PERIOD: Back in 2021, we had a similar final between an Arizona State and an Iowa lightweight when Hawkeye three-time NCAA Spencer Lee wrestled Sun Devil Brandon Courtney to a 7-0 win. We'll see what these two guys can do. Figueroa said his post-semifinal press conference that Courtney has been like a brother to him, whereas Ayala said he and Lee are more competitive with one another. The arena is eerily quiet as these two All-Americans battle on the main stage. Shot from Kerkvliet. Davison is working to draw a stalemate, but Kerkvliet finishes. He leads 9-3 with ten seconds to go in the second period.

FIRST PERIOD: First match of the night, and we're starting with the big men! Let's do it!

Michigan's Lucas Davison has himself quite the tournament to make it this far, taking down No. 2 Yonger Bastida in the quarterfinals and then beating No. 3 Wyatt Hendrickson in the semifinals. Here's his shot against the top seed and the athlete ranked No. 1 all year: Greg Kerkvliet.

Penn State's Greg Kerkvliet picks up the first takedown, and he's on the board within the first 90 seconds. Davison escapes quickly, and the wrestlers are back to their feet. Takedown Greg Kerkvliet! The Nittany Lion leads 6-1. Davison picks up a critical escape in short time. Greg Kerkvliet carries a 6-2 lead into the first period. Good start for the Nittany Lions.

This is more than a sight-seeing trip (although participants will see a lot of amazing D.C. sights!) There is a strong educational component that teaches the importance of being an active participant in our democracy.

One of the most impactful highlights of the Youth Tour experience is meeting and talking with the elected representatives in the House and the Senate.

Delegates are encouraged to come prepared with questions or topics to discuss in their meetings. Understanding that even though they may not be old enough to vote, their Representatives want to engage with them is an empowering realization for these high schoolers!

arena youth tour 2022

I’ve gotten to take students on their first plane ride; I’ve helped find the names of relatives listed on the Vietnam Wall so delegates can take rubbings back home to their family … We tour the Holocaust Memorial Museum each year and we all experience emotions and see realities that could never be truly taught in school. AND I’ve gotten to watch amazing young leaders ask their Congressional Representatives questions and get face-to-face feedback. I assure you – It is as life changing for us as staff as it is for the students ! Alisia | Florida Youth Tour Director

Multiplatinum selling pop super-group New Kids On The Block continues the party like nobody else can with the announcement of The MixTape Tour 2022 , with their friends Salt-N-Pepa , Rick Astley and En Vogue as legendary special guests.

“We had a blast out on the first MixTape Tour in 2019, and can’t wait to take it to another level with our fans on the MixTape Tour 2022,” Donnie Wahlberg said. “Just like a mixtape, these shows are going to take audiences through all the emotions. To be able to have Salt-N-Pepa come back and now also have the iconic and legendary Rick Astley & En Vogue join the tour… we could not be more excited. Let’s GO!”

The MixTape Tour 2022 is already shaping up to be a can’t miss night out where fans can hear chart-topping hits and legendary catalogues spanning generations all night long. It follows the colossal commercial and critical success of NKOTB’s 2019 tour by the same name – their biggest since reuniting in 2008 – which grossed $53.2 million, sold more than 650,000 tickets and pioneered a super-sized show each night with multiple acts (Salt-N-Pepa, Tiffany, Naughty By Nature and Debbie Gibson) hitting the stage and reimagining what a special guest on a tour could look like.

NKOTB will hit the stage on the MixTape Tour 2022 to perform fan favorite #1 hits like “Hangin’ Tough,” “I’ll Be Loving You (Forever),” and “Step By Step” while tour mates Salt-N-Pepa (“Push It,” “Shoop,” “Whatta Man”), Rick Astley (“Never Gonna Give You Up,” “Together Forever”) and En Vogue (“Don’t Let Go [Love],” “Free Your Mind,” “Give It Up, Turn It Loose,” “Hold On”) keep the party going with music that catapulted them to stardom and solidified their places in music history.

NKOTB most recently returned to the stage for an epic, one night only, sold out performance at Fenway Park on August 6 in their beloved hometown of Boston, MA. Watch a recap HERE . The show marked their first performance in two years, their third show at Fenway Park, and a preview of the explosive live energy from the group that fans can expect from the MixTape Tour 2022.

In 2021, Salt-N-Pepa received a Lifetime Achievement Award. 2022 will kick up with Salt-N-Pepa dedicating their Hollywood Walk of Fame star.

Over the past two years, Rick Astley has amassed million YouTube followers with a series of covers from his studio and become a major force on TikTok with 1.7 million followers. “Never Gonna Give You Up” was recently featured on the critically acclaimed series “Ted Lasso” on Apple TV+ and its video has been viewed more than 1 billion times.

En Vogue celebrated the 30th anniversary of their first album “Born To Sing” on April 3, 2020, when it was reissued on Rhino Records, closed out the 2020 Billboard Music Awards with a performance of “Free Your Mind,” and launched their “Funky Divas” podcast. In March, they appeared with Salt-N-Pepa in “Coming 2 America” for a show-stopping performance of their hit song “Whatta Man” that was aptly titled “Whatta King” and was featured on the film’s soundtrack. In 2018, they released their album “Electric Café,” with a top 10 single (“Rocket”). Recent collaborations have included Snoop Dogg, Raphael Saadiq and Chance the Rapper.
