Written By Steve Benjamins

The best travel agency websites show potential customers why they need a travel agency to make a trip the best it can possibly be. Chosen website builders should make the user experience easy to navigate and ultimately, easy to get in touch with the agency.

Beautiful, high-end photography is also an absolute must that should give a sneak peek into some of the locations and trips they can create. A good travel agency website should advertise it’s specialties, be it luxury trips, more budget friendly options or corporate travel.

It’s important for those interested in hiring an agency to feel confident that the agency is a good fit for them, and that professionalism is at the forefront. After all, traveling is a financial investment and a travel agency should guarantee that the client investment goes smoothly.

Travel Website Design Trends

After browsing through this showcase, a few trends in travel website development are obvious.

Full-Screen Background Videos

Many of the sites showcased here use a large video on the homepage that immediately grabs the attention of visitors. Most of the videos rotate and change the clips every few seconds to hold viewers’ attention longer. Some sites use large background photos instead of video, but the use of video is a noticeable trend.

Heavy Use of Photos

What’s the best way to inspire travelers and encourage sharing on social media? Photos and video are much more effective than text, so it makes sense that travel and tourism websites use a lot of beautiful photos to showcase the travel destination and venues.

Not only do these sites use a lot of photos, but the photos also tend to be big and unmissable.

Clean Layouts

Most of the sites use images and videos as the primary visual elements. In some cases, the designs and layouts are fairly simple (in a good way), which allows the images to have the full attention of visitors while providing a positive user experience.

Many of the sites showcased on this page are related to luxury travel, either hotels, resorts, or travel agencies. One of the best ways to give an elegant and luxurious feel to a website is through typography. While this trend does not apply to every site on the list, several of them feature typography that adds to the feel of luxury.

Final Thoughts on Travel Website Design

We hope you enjoyed this showcase of the best travel website design examples. There are a variety of different types of businesses represented here, so you should find plenty of inspiration for your own tourism website design to create an outstanding online presence.

The travel website examples shown here use web design as a powerful tool to advertise and encourage people to visit or stay. All of these sites are valuable assets to the business and we’re sure that your site has the same potential.

Travel Website Ideas: How to Make Yours Stand Out

Now that you've perused over 20 websites, you might wonder: How do I enact these key takeaways to build my travel website? Here are a few actionable ways to help your travel site stand out in such a saturated market.

Keep it simple.

It's no secret that planning a trip can be an overwhelming experience. The most successful travel websites keep it simple, provide ample white space, and present users with information as needed instead of throwing everything at them at once. Your visitors are likely already semi-stressed planning their trip — the last thing they want is to land on a highly overwhelming website. Spread your website out accordingly, don't make it too cluttered, and use a readable font. In other words, prioritize not only your site looking good but being user-friendly, too.

Stay true to your branding.

The best travel websites are those that stay true to their branding. If your brand is known for its vibrant colors, having a sleek and minimalist design probably doesn't make sense. Instead, you can incorporate your branding so your site feels like an extension of the brand your visitors already know and love.

If you're unsure where to begin, remember that you can start with a template and customize it to suit your branding. For instance, when you  build your website with CMS Hub , you can use the pre-existing templates available and infuse your unique branding into them. (Plus, you'll love that you can start completely free.)

Try to find something that your brand can uniquely offer.

The travel websites that stand out offer something that others don't. For instance, Trip Advisor is notable because it offers AI that helps visitors create the trip of their dreams, or Jet Blue's site stands out because of its funny and quirky copywriting. Find what only your brand offers — and build your site around that.

Build a website your visitors will love.

Remember: Travel websites vary greatly, so as long as you're creating one that feels true to your brand and prioritizes user experience, you'll see success. Good luck and enjoy creating with these travel design ideas in mind!

What Makes a Great Travel Agency Landing Page

To attract customers and inspire wanderlust, a great travel agency website needs certain essential elements. First, high-quality images are a must. Vibrant photos of exotic destinations, stunning landscapes, and cultural experiences pique interest and evoke emotion. Images should dominate the page, with minimal text. For the best results, use large, high-resolution photos that load quickly. An intuitive and minimalistic design is also important. Avoid clutter and let the images shine through. Use plenty of white space, minimal text, and a simple yet modern font. The navigation should be straightforward, with clear calls to action to contact the agency or view tour packages. Speaking of which, prominently feature your most popular or unique tour packages and destinations. Provide enticing descriptions of each tour, highlighting experiences, activities, landmarks and destinations. Mention what’s included and the level of service customers can expect. Testimonials and reviews build credibility. Feature quotes and stories from happy clients describing their amazing travels and experience with your agency. Star ratings and review numbers also instill confidence. A blog is a great way to demonstrate expertise and inspire customers with travel stories and tips. Highlight destinations you specialize in as well as seasonal events, cultural festivals, and natural wonders worth experiencing. Embed social sharing buttons to spread the word. Finally, clearly state how customers can get in touch and book their next adventure. Provide multiple contact methods, including phone number, email, contact form, and social media links. Describe your booking process and any deals or special offers currently available. Following these best practices will ensure your travel agency website attracts and converts more customers, leading to an increase in sales and growth of your business. By inspiring wanderlust and building trust, you’ll have travelers hooked on their next big trip. Travel Agency Website Design & Templates Tips

Indeed, first impressions matter a lot, especially in the digital world. When potential customers land on your travel agency website, they should immediately be taken on a visual journey. That’s where a visually appealing and user-friendly design comes into play.

Choosing a suitable website template or theme for a travel agency website is crucial. Notably, you need to choose a design that complements your travel agency’s brand identity and philosophy. For example, if you specialize in luxury travel, a minimalist and sophisticated design would work well. Conversely, a family-focused agency might choose a colorful and playful design.

Some key design elements to consider are the colors, fonts, imagery, and layout. A harmonious color palette, readable fonts, engaging imagery, and intuitive layout can all contribute to a great user experience. As a case in point, take a look at some of the best travel agency websites out there, and you’ll notice these common elements.

When it comes to travel agency website design, there are plenty of templates available. Using a template as a starting point can help you create a cohesive and professional-looking website. Furthermore, templates can be customized to better align with your brand, giving you the best of both worlds.

Travel Agency Website Content Ideas

Moving on, we can’t emphasize enough the importance of compelling and informative content for a travel agency website. Just like the design, your content needs to transport visitors to their dream destinations, stirring their wanderlust and enticing them to book their next trip with you.

A well-planned site architecture is fundamental. Key sections include the homepage, destination pages, services, and testimonials. Each of these pages serves a specific purpose in your customer’s journey, leading them closer to the booking button.

Content ideas for a travel agency website:

  • Destination Guides : In-depth information about various destinations, including must-visit places, local cuisine, culture, best time to visit, and travel tips. This not only acts as an informative guide for travelers but also boosts your SEO through location-specific keywords.
  • Travel Blog: Regularly updated blogs featuring travel stories, experiences, travel hacks, and updates on the travel industry. This keeps your audience engaged and can also boost your SEO with relevant and trending keywords.
  • Service Details: Comprehensive information about the services offered, such as booking flights, hotels, rental cars, tour packages, etc. It helps potential customers understand the value you provide and can influence their decision to book with your agency.
  • Customer Reviews and Testimonials: Sharing feedback from satisfied customers can greatly enhance your website’s credibility. This can be further boosted by featuring case studies of previous successful trips.
  • Photo and Video Gallery: A showcase of high-quality visuals from various destinations can entice potential customers. It gives them a glimpse of what they can expect when booking with your agency.
  • FAQs: A section dedicated to frequently asked questions can address common queries or concerns of potential customers, improving user experience.
  • Interactive Tools: Tools like travel cost calculators, personalized itinerary builders, and virtual tours can enhance user experience and increase engagement.
  • Special Deals and Offers: Highlighting special deals, discounts, or offers can attract potential customers looking for budget-friendly travel options.

But it’s not just about what you say, but how you say it. Writing engaging copy that is tailored to your audience can significantly enhance your website’s appeal. Equally important is showcasing stunning visuals that bring your destinations to life. Also, remember to incorporate strong calls to action that guide visitors on what to do next.

Finally, given the competitive nature of the travel industry, SEO-friendly content is a must for any travel agency website. From including keywords in your text to optimizing images, there are many ways to make your website more visible to search engines.

The 10 Best Travel Agency Website Designs

After doing tourism website development with many travel agencies, tour providers, and travel websites over the years, we’ve learnt a fair bit about these kinds of websites. One thing has become extremely clear to us: travel agency website designs are possibly the most important part of driving conversions.

Let’s not get it twisted – content is king, and the content / tours / travel options provided are almost always the most important factor on the site. But if you take two sites with the same level of content quality, it’s no doubt that it’ll be the travel websites’ designs that become the deciding factor for the customer, and the usability of the website that drives conversions and directs traffic.

Whether you’re marketing villas in Tuscany, hiking trips in Peru, or the opportunity to go kayak fishing in Alaska, your website’s visual appeal is paramount.

We’ve used our experience with these kinds of websites to write this guide on the best tour and travel website designs. Finding the best practices and design trends that will help you turn visits into conversions, and possibly even repeat customers.

Let’s take a closer look.

Why Tour and Travel Websites Need Amazing Designs

In the travel and tourism industry, visual media has always been one of the best ways to do marketing. The pure fact that you can see the destinations, compare them as if you’re there, and explore them without even visiting is one of the main reasons that postcards, flyers, and brochures are such a common sight in this field.

Combine this with the fact that in 2018, over 80% of travel and your bookings were made digitally , and the general rule that a visual experience is a make-or-break in the digital sphere. It becomes pretty clear that design and visual communications are some of the most important factors in travel.

travel agency website examples

In addition, there are so many variations on this rule that you could apply to different niches. For example, if you’re selling packages aimed at younger travelers on your travel agency website, you’ll most probably want to gear the imagery and design towards the idea of an influencer-style trip.

If your demographic happens to be pensioners or retirees, then you can communicate the idea of comfort and ease, quickly and without saying a word, using the website design.

Now, this might seem like a lot to get your head around. But by analysing what works and what doesn’t on other sites, you can start to get some ideas and direction (like we did on our guide to the best hotel website designs ). In this guide, that’s what we’re about to do.

Travel Agency Websites: The 10 Best Designs

Let’s take a look at our ten favorite travel agency website designs, each with something of their own that makes them functional, well-designed, and a pleasure to use. Naturally, each of these is a public website. So if you know a little about web design, you can use your browser developer tools to take a closer look at the back-end of these designs.

One note: In the modern-day and age, most websites have some form of interactivity, animation, or movement incorporated into the design. These websites are no different, and while we tried to get the best possible images of the features we loved, we’d recommend giving some of them a visit if to try out some of the features for yourself.

Now, let’s start analyzing.

1. Visit Humboldt

travel agency website examples

Winning Feature: Gamified one-page design.

Humboldt County is a wooded area in northern California known for being somewhat of the “Hippy County” of the state (which says a lot). It’s known for its redwood forests and remote atmosphere, and their county tourism website does everything to convey and confirm that.

The website is a truly incredible feat of web design, appearing like something out of a story-based video game. In essence, you begin your journey clicking “follow the magic” and are immediately met with four options: Adventurous, relaxing, family, romantic. All against a backdrop of the gorgeous Humboldt scenes (with an Alice in Wonderland wandering around a few of them).

travel agency website examples

As you follow the path along your click-based adventure, you’re asked to pin locations you’d like to visit on your trip, as each of them appears on screen in beautiful HD video. Following this, you’re asked how you’ll arrive, and are then presented with an interactive itinerary, complete with beautiful animations and illustrations.

This design is such a successful attempt for many reasons. One of these is that the gamified design means it’s really hard not to go through the whole guided process of creating an itinerary. This means that customers will spend longer on the site, or perhaps even run it through a few times.

This is not only great for SEO and user experience but when you combine it with stunning images, you’re leaving the user with a solid memory of what they’ve seen. As well as a great impression that won’t soon go away.

2. Context Travel

travel agency website examples

Winning Feature: An example of great communicative design.

There’s little worse than that feeling that what you’re being offered isn’t really for you. This is often the case in travel. Take, for example, a hypothetical location you’re looking for a tour of. It’s a great possibility that you might want to get a little deeper into the history, stories, and culture of the location, but all tours on offer are simple walk-and-look tours.

Context Travel eliminates this issue almost entirely. Their tour style – “guided by experts”, as their website states – is the idea of doing in-depth tours for historical or academic tourists. And their website clearly states this, without saying it in such an outright manner.

travel agency website examples

The clean, sleek web design (especially in terms of space, typography, and color usage) is almost like something you might find on an investment website. Giving a nod to the kind of customer they’re seeking to serve.

In addition, the kinds of photos they have on their website demonstrate certain feelings, or actions: engagement, immersion, study. They are very clearly not the kind of tour group for an influencer or ‘Instagram-traveller’. And they manage to capture just the right audience by speaking to them with a design sensibility that they can understand.

Their apparent formula is a great one – they focused on a niche customer and attempted to engage with that customer. Instead of attempting to turn other non-customers towards this niche. This is somewhat of a divide-and-conquer marketing technique, but it really seems to work for them.

3. Thrillophilia

travel agency website examples

Winning Feature: Everything is a CTA and you didn’t even realize it.

Thrillophilia is an adventure / extreme tours and activities website, offering a little more to the hardcore, adventurous traveler. They have a beautifully designed website, parts of it similar to an AirBnB design, and great bookings landing page when you first visit their site.

Here, you can search for tours, activities, rentals, etc. They also make use of this landing space to show some stats such as the countries they have on their books, the number of satisfied customers, and the 12000+ tours they provide. These, while they may seem like an obvious touch, can really make for a good, long-lasting impression in the mind of a visitor to the site.

However, there’s something about Thrillophilia’s website that we couldn’t quite put our finger on, that makes interacting with it feel ‘guided’ or ‘directed’ in a manner of speaking. The best way we can put this in words is to say that nearly everything on the website is a CTA, of some sort.

travel agency website examples

A CTA (or call-to-action) refers to a web or design element (usually a button, or a link) that prompts you to do something, to continue using the website or app. On this website, almost everything works as such – both thanks to color usage (in the buttons, stars, and best-seller tags), and great category buttons.

Their category buttons are specifically a winner. They’re small, rounded images which almost prompt you to “click to enlarge” to see more of the activity or city you’re eyeing.

The user is aware that this will move them to another page, and not simply enlarge the photo. But the association makes interaction easy and natural and encourages you to click, click, click on to explore more of the activities they have on offer.

Sure, you could say the same for a lot of travel and tour websites – the photos often make you want to click on them. However, there’s something extremely natural and guided about Thrillophilia that, whether intentional or not, makes the website a memorable breeze to use and navigate.

Winning Feature: Everything you need, all in one place.

Agoda has the least-cluttered, shortest-length homepage of all the websites on this list – yet somehow they’re one of the most successful. Established brands don’t usually need to try as hard to retain, or attract new customers. But there are a number of things Agoda is doing well, to ensure they’re one of the top premium travel agent websites around the world.

Let’s take a look at some of the small things they’re doing to keep their website as user-friendly as possible.

Firstly, everything you need from them is immediately accessible and visible, above the fold (meaning: on the part of the page you can see) as you arrive on their homepage.

This includes:

  • their booking widget,
  • an option to change your location or currency,
  • a link to adding your own listing on their service,
  • and shortcuts to hotels, flights, airport transfers, and deals/specials.

That’s quite a list – and you probably can’t think of anything that’s missing here.

travel agency website examples

One of the reasons this works so well is because they’ve got an appropriate usage of space. By including everything necessary with small text links on the landing page, they have managed to save a good amount of space and clutter. Allowing for a large, clean, and easy-to-use design.

Bonus points for their “change background” button which allows for some easy, fun customization when you’re not even logged in. This is another great example of gamification, although some might consider this iteration a little distracting.

5. Holiday Pirates

travel agency website examples

Winning Feature: Friendly, funny, and comforting copy.

One of the scariest parts of booking tours and activities can be the idea of trusting someone with your money, to secure a product, and deliver what they claim they can offer. Now, one of the best ways to combat this is to have a well-designed website, which speaks to trust and accountability. We can easily say that all the sites on this list meet that requirement.

However, Holiday Pirates have gone the extra step, and presented some truly well-planned copy on their website, making browsing the site a laugh, and allowing things to catch your interest that otherwise might not.

While their website is pretty standard overall, their copy is really a significant step above the rest, and you can easily see why.

travel agency website examples

“Marra-yes please!” is the name of their tour of Marrakech.

“Crackin’ Krakow” is one of their Polish tours.

The overall tone of the copy on the website is fun, humorous and playful – yet they still have all the important information ready and clear. This is so effective because it helps a visitor let their guard down a little, and trust the site a little more. And they maintain just the right appropriate level of seriousness (where it’s important) so that the entire site doesn’t just come across as a joke.

travel agency website examples

It’s the ability to tread this line that makes HolidayPirates appear trustworthy, friendly, and on-your-level. This just goes to show how important it is to never take yourself too seriously, and also to take risks and try and do something different. If you tried to convince some travel websites to make their near entire brand identity a humorous one, most would think you’re crazy. But maybe, just maybe, they might be wrong.

travel agency website examples

Winning Feature: Mobile-first design at its best.

It may seem a little unfair to include AirBnB on this list – after all, they’re probably the most popular, and well-established digital travel company. Furthermore, their Experiences section is really taking off. Meaning they’re really succeeding in pivoting towards experience, and tour-based activities.

Being one of the biggest companies in the niche, of course, means that they have a large budget – and no expense has been spared when it comes to their website and app.

One of the coolest parts of their website is how responsive it is. This refers to elements inside the web page re-organizing themselves as you view the page on devices with screens of a different size. The site has one of the most seamless transitions we’ve ever seen, from full-screen view all the way down to the mobile level.

travel agency website examples

Now, this is important for two reasons.

Firstly, you ideally want both your app and your website to work in the same way. Take, for example, a user who has only viewed AirBnB through their app, and has to visit the website for the first time. This transition should be as natural as possible, and the user should immediately understand how all the elements they’re familiar with work in a different context.

Secondly, as per the report, we quoted earlier in this article, over a quarter of travel-related searches occurred on mobile in the last quarter of 2018. Mobile is slowly dominating the market. And, as such, AirBnB’s mobile-first approach allows them to create for what is popular, and build upon that by optimizing a full-size version for desktop users.

7. Rome2Rio

travel agency website examples

Winning Feature: Amazing transport planning widget.

Let’s face it – Rome2Rio is not the most attractive of travel websites. It’s got quite a standard look, and while the design is tasteful, it might not be overly impressive. But, what they’ve done to set themselves apart is to create one of the niftiest and innovative travel tools you could find on the internet.

Their transport search widget allows you to search for transport across the world, across all different transportation types (boats, planes, taxis, trains, etc.), from door to door. This means you simply enter your home address or departure airport, and the exact location of the first item on your agenda at your next destination. It’ll show you the cheapest options for every single leg of travel along the way.

travel agency website examples

In an interesting way, they have positioned themselves to possibly become a very important part of the digital travel agency world. You might book your activities and tours with another one of the websites mentioned in this list. But Rome2Rio can still offer the added convenience of organizing all your transport beforehand.

This is, once again, sort of a divide-and-conquer approach, allowing them to focus on a niche where there is less competition. The closest tool we’ve seen, to something like this, would be Google’s very own travel features, and even then it’s not quite as handy as this one.

travel agency website examples

Winning Feature: Photos and designs communicate their values expertly.

It seems, these days, that web design and UX (user experience), are extremely dependent on trends. And one of the biggest of those trends, in recent years, has been the rise of eco-friendly travel and tourism initiatives.

BoutEco calls themselves “stylish and sustainable”, and offer a service to help eco-travelers find hotels and accommodation that align with their own morals. They also help eco-conscious hotels improve their sustainability, and allow newer ones to transition into a sustainable model with their help.

travel agency website examples

Now, nothing about their site screams eco-friendly on face value – it’s just a lot of beautiful accommodation shots in nature. However, there are small hints or ‘gives’ that allude to sustainability.

For example, all their photos are strictly taken at a wider angle, showing as much as possible – or more directly, not hiding anything. In addition, the layout of the website feels extremely ‘clean’ and directed – both values that are extremely important when it comes to sustainability.

This is possibly the most subtle example of good design on this list, but it’s so well executed that it definitely deserves some recognition. Not every attempt at connecting with a user, or improving their experience, needs to be blatant or obvious. Sometimes subtlety is key, and in cases like this, we can easily see why.

9. Get Your Guide

travel agency website examples

Winning Feature: The most stunning images in the game.

We all know Get Your Guide and their stunning cover images that pop up to meet you upon arrival on their site. One of the most interesting things about GYG’s fantastic image use is that it doesn’t need to be explained, broken down, or studied. You can immediately see that it works, and see how.

So, you might ask, what can I learn from their site if I already know how important good images are? Well, it’s more of a reference point than anything else.

Any photographer preparing images for a tour or travel site would be well advised to take a look at Get Your Guide’s website and images as a reference point. Studying the way their photos are broken down, what kind of colors, landscapes, visuals, etc. they focus on will almost definitely lead to a more impressive and successful set of pictures.

travel agency website examples

Secondly, if there are subjects in the photo, they’re more than often facing away from the camera. This helps keep that immersion of placing yourself in the shoes of that traveler or imagining yourself standing at the given viewpoint.

This is an example of really breaking down and dissecting the user experience. Taking a known principle such as “ Great photos sell tours ”, and going one step further, asking what it is that makes great photos great, and what about a great photo can really sell an activity.

10. With Locals

travel agency website examples

Winning Feature: Well-planned categories, and info – with personalization.

WithLocals, similar to Context Travel, is a niche tour and activity agency. Allowing those seeking genuine experiences to partner up with locals all around the world. These locals then guide them on customizable tours, through classes, activities, and more.

Now, this is a fantastic idea – and in our opinion long overdue. However, this could get messy – after all, you’re dealing with thousands of locations, dozens of dialects, and languages. And the idea of customizable tours alone can be a tricky road to venture down, for the tour providers. Luckily, WithLocals encountered none of these issues.

Their website is a great example of one of the most important principles of SEO, which has a large amount of crossover into design and UX: Categories.

Firstly, WithLocals has their simple categories – these are the ones you might imagine someone might search on Google, such as “day trips”, “night tours”, “family-friendly”, etc.

travel agency website examples

Next up, they’ve broken down their popular section into two: one for locations, and another for experiences or activities. This means that, at a glance, you can get an idea of some of the more places to visit, as well as which kinds of tours, are the most popular across the board.

Spoiler: it’s food-related… No surprises there, and it fits in with their authentic and local theme.

Past this, they have a blog-feed style panel of buttons to various categories, which they have seemingly identified based on what their users are looking for. For example, their categories like “Top 5 Cities for Foodies”, and “Top 5 Cities to visit with Kids” – all serve a great user experience. Allowing you to find what you’re looking for all within one click of the home page, while still offering something for everyone.

This is less divide-and-conquer and more of a strategic shotgun approach. First, spray and pray and see what hits, and secondly, focus only on the spots where hits happened – metaphorically speaking of course.

What do the best Travel Agency Websites have in common?

Well, that got pretty deep, pretty fast. Let’s do a little refresher, and just touch on the most important points – the things all these websites have in common, and the ideas that are being followed across the board.

Mobile-first Design Principles

As we mentioned, mobile is taking over. This means that it’s important to choose either a mobile-first or desktop-first design. The former is definitely more popular, just look to Twitter’s current desktop website as an example.

travel agency website examples

Building upon this, you want to make sure that learning how to interact with your website is seamless regardless of the device. To use another common example, YouTube has a fantastic mobile version, where pretty much every single desktop function has been transported over in one way or another.

While there’s a good few thousand pixels difference between your desktop and mobile version, they should essentially be windows to the same exact thing, and feel like it too.

Large, Stunning Images

We won’t repeat ourselves again here – to keep things simple, use lots of large, stunning images. Remember, however, that images are some of the elements that can take the longest to load on a webpage. And as such, you should make sure your images are appropriately compressed and ready to be served as fast as possible – on a CDN if possible.

Also, while we’re on the topic, free commercial use images might be handy and readily available. But having your own individualized images will always help set you apart from the rest, and are such a worthwhile investment.

travel agency website examples

Integrated Widgets for Bookings and Reservations

A custom widget can be a great expense, and it can be difficult to create from scratch – but it’s one of the best ways to truly separate yourself from the competition. If you can craft your own truly individual functionality that no one else can compete with, you’re well set up to dominate a niche.

That being said, it’s not imperative, and if you can achieve a similar ease-in-use of your website using simple, effective categorization, CTA’s, and tooltips, then by all means you’re on the right track.

A Top Class User Experience

UX is the name of the game, and it’s here to stay. You should always be asking yourself what the user wants, and careful of how you impose your own goals and aims for a website. At the end of the day, the users define how a website will be received and used.

This isn’t to say that the user is in complete control. But at the end of the day, an app or service that’s trying to satisfy some gap in user intent will always be more successful than one that’s attempting to “tell” a user that they need the service being offered.

In Conclusion

You’ve got some pointers and some quite in-depth breakdowns. The best way to stay in the loop with these kinds of principles moving forward? Analyze, analyze, analyze.

One of the best efforts you can make when trying to improve your website, product, or service is to analyze your competitors. See what they’re doing better / worse than you are, and start strategizing.

A Guide to The Best Travel Agency Websites

travel agency website examples

When you visit a travel website, are you always eager to go on a vacation?

An effective and well-designed travel website with vibrant travel images and detailed destinations will always activate the travel mode for users who visit the website. These websites will give would-be travelers all the needed information they need for a successful vacation.

If you are aspiring to have your travel website, you should know that a great web design plays a vital role in a visitor's first impression of a business. With a good web design, a business can achieve its purpose.

So, it means that a good design will determine if the visitor will trust the information or recommendation. This is because traveling requires a lot of investment, so the users need to trust your information before they can patronize you.

If the visitor is convinced about the information on your site, they will find it easy to start their travel plan with you. However, not every travel website's names provide good services, but some strive to stand out from the rest.

So whether you are just getting started with your travel agency website or you want to revamp an existing one, you need to consider all things necessary.

In this guide, we will include all the things that you need to include on your travel agency website. Additionally, we will talk about some examples of travel sites that you can use to inspire your design.

What you should include on your travel agency website?

Before you start to design your travel agency website, there are some things you need to consider.

There are tons of websites that you will find in the travel category. And the kind of design you need depends on the type of travel website you’re planning to build.

For example, an official tourism website for a city will have a different objective from a travel guide or a tour website. This is one of the best tourism websites.

To make your search easy, we will provide some of the things that you need to include on your website.

In General, your travel agents website design should include a mix of the following:

  • Packing Tips
  • Airport Information
  • Maps and Guides
  • Top-notch Images
  • Public Transport Information
  • Tips on your destination language and dialect.
  • Information about outdoor and recreational activities
  • Brief information about the destination, and important places to visit.

Content Ideas for your travel agency website

If you are not certain of the type of content to include on your travel agency website, this section of the article will discuss everything you need to know. Here are some of the ideas you should consider!

Start with a homepage

One of the most important things that you should include on your travel agency website is the homepage. This is the first page that people will see, so you should make it appealing. This will attract them and might make them stay to check the content of your site.

For example, you might include a slide show or images or an attractive vacation destination on your homepage. Let this be the first thing they will set their eyes on when they land on your website. Alternatively, you can include the actual people’s vacation picture. The reason is that people will only believe what they see.

About and Contact

Every website should have two key pages - About and Contact. These pages should also be included on your travel agency website. These are the most essential pages on your website because they contain information about who you are and how your visitors can reach out to you.

The about page should be listed after home, and the contact page should be the last item on the menu bar.

You might wonder why it has to be like that. But this is considered a good user design because people are used to this structure.

What should you put in between?

When designing your travel agency website, you need to include some page in between the about page and contact page. It is good practice to limit yourself to only three travel pages. And ensure that you include all that you have to offer your customers.

The pages you want to include should contain:

  • Vacation Package: This page should tell your potential customers all the various traveling packages that you have for them. This could range from family vacations to travel tours, and more.
  • Your Niche: Another great thing that you should include is the kind of travel services that you are specialized in.
  • Why use a travel agent: Most of your customers might not know the benefits of using a travel agency. So you should convince them with information about all the aspects of travel services that you plan on providing.
  • Destination: This page should display all the destinations that you have sent your customers to before and other beautiful places that you can send them to.
  • Give Itinerary Examples: You should also provide a list of what customers can do on their next vacation and where they can visit.
  • Include a Blog: If you will have enough time to dish out quality travel content, this will go a long way to promote your travel website. You can post links to this blog on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and more.

20 Example Travel Websites That Will Get You Moving

' src=

Pack your bags. We’re going on vacation!

That’s exactly what an effective travel website should make you feel. It should activate the travel bug with vibrant imagery and vivid copy.

And while photos can do a lot of the work in inspiring visitors, a travel site can’t accomplish its purpose without great web design.

Web design plays a major role in visitors’ first impressions of a business. In fact, in one study, when participants were asked why they distrusted a website, 94% of the comments were about design.

For a travel site, this means that design can be the determining factor in whether a visitor trusts recommendations and information.

And considering the significant investments that go into planning a trip, trust is essential.

It can make or break a traveler’s decision to take a certain tour, stay at a certain hotel, or even visit a city or country altogether.

Plus, beyond serving as a trustworthy source of inspiration, a travel site also needs to give would-be travelers all the information they need to arrange their travel plans.

Once a visitor is convinced that they need to see the sights in the photos for themselves, it should be easy for them to plan their trip.

This means that the site needs to have straightforward travel information, helpful logistical details, and tips that will help visitors simplify the travel process.

Not all travel sites tick all of these boxes, but the ones that do stand out from all the rest.

So whether you’re considering launching a new travel site, or you’re ready to improve an existing one, you want to make sure you leave no stone unturned.

That’s why in this post, I’ll cover the essential elements your site needs to include, then go over 20 examples of travel sites you can use to inspire your own design .

What should a travel website include?

There are tons of different types of sites that fall under the travel site umbrella.

The design elements you need depend on the type of site you’re running.

An official tourism site for a city will have different goals from those of a travel blogger or tour company.

So as you read through this post, keep in mind that not all of the recommendations will apply to your site.

But in general, the ideal travel website should include a mix of the following:

  • High-quality photography
  • A brief summary of the area, with highlights of important places
  • Hotel recommendations with web links to hotel and booking sites
  • Information about recreation and outdoor activities
  • Guides to arts and culture, including museums, theaters, and other attractions
  • Packing tips
  • Maps and guides
  • Public transport information
  • Airport information
  • Relevant tips on language and local dialect

Of course, your site likely won’t need to include all of the elements on this list. Tailor it to your needs.

And there’s tons of example travel sites that we can use for inspiration. Let’s get started.

1. Telluride, Colorado

The first site on our list is the official tourism guide to the city of Telluride, Colorado.

travel agency website examples

Right from the start, a prominent image gallery does a lot of the selling on the website for Telluride.

By making the images so large, the site makes sure the first thing you see is a beautiful landscape.

This is an example of a site that relies less on copy. Instead of a detail-heavy approach, the design focuses more on the picturesque views and various activities in action.

Once a visitor is drawn in by the photos, they can opt to click on the main call to action, “Plan Your Spring Trip” for more information.

From there, visitors can read about the various activities they can do in the city, then purchase any necessary tickets, passes, or equipment rentals.

This approach works, because it combines attention-grabbing imagery with a clear call to action.

Many Internet users have short attention spans, so it’s important to give them the opportunity to take action as soon as possible. Don’t make them think, wait, or read too much copy before giving them the opportunity to convert.

2. Visit Brasil

Visit Brasil is the country’s official tourism site.

travel agency website examples

On the surface, you might think that arranging this site would be a simple process.

After all, how difficult could it be to persuade visitors to check out beautiful beaches and hikes through the Amazon?

But considering that Brazil is a huge country, making up almost half of the continent of South America, the site has a lot of information to cover.

It does this by dividing the various regions into different “Experiences.”

travel agency website examples

By breaking the country into smaller, more manageable areas, the site aims to create a virtual travel experience that allows the user to explore the sights of Brazil right from their computer.

This can help visitors decide where they want to go within this massive country. If they’re looking for a relaxed beach trip, for example, they’ll have very different options from travelers looking for hiking trips or adventure tours.

Then, once a visitor has selected a destination, the breakdowns on the site will give them an accurate idea of what they can hope to see within the span of their trip.

3. On the Grid

Unlike the previous two examples, which centered on one city and one country, On the Grid is a travel blog spanning many countries and continents.

travel agency website examples

As a result, the site requires a very different type of organization.

Instead of letting visitors jump right into information about hotels and activities, the main navigation bar is organized by region.

Then, the homepage features an alphabetical list of city guides, from Aberdeen to Zurich.

[tweet_box design=”default”]This level of organization makes it easy for users to access information, whether they’re looking for a guide to a specific city or simply browsing for trip inspiration.[/tweet_box]

4. Cookiesound

Cookiesound is another travel blog that focuses on sharing personal stories from a mother-daughter photographer team.

travel agency website examples

The pair has made a name for themselves taking photos around the world, and they’ve created a nice compilation of their journeys.

And while the photos are likely what initially draw readers in, what sets this site apart from others is the personal perspective. You can tell that this site was made out of a passion for traveling.

So if you’re running a travel blog, it’s important to remember that photos can’t do all the work for you in building an audience and establishing a loyal reader base.

Make sure to spend just as much time creating interesting, well-written content for your site, and you’ll be much more effective in reaching your site’s goals.

5. Toucan Cafe & Tours

Toucan Cafe is a Medellin coffee shop that also runs tours and language exchanges.

travel agency website examples

Their site is exceptionally comprehensive. It features different types of tours and details about the cafe, as well as general tourist information for visitors to the city.

Best of all, everything is easily accessible from the big menu bar. Given that the site is designed to provide information about very distinct categories, it’s essential that visitors can immediately find what they’re looking for.

After all, if a user were to arrive looking for details on a walking tour, but think they’d mistakenly come to the website of a random coffee shop, Toucan would quickly lose a potential customer.

But this straightforward navigation setup eliminates that issue and makes it easy for users to access the information they need.

Plus, it’s worth noting that all of the content on the site is available in Spanish and English.

While some of the company’s customers might be traveling within Colombia, they’ve clearly determined that many of their tour attendees come from English-speaking countries.

By making all of their information available in English, Toucan expands their audience and makes sure they don’t miss out on potential customers because of a language barrier.

6. Wheeling, West Virginia

As you may have guessed, this is the official tourism site for the city of Wheeling, West Virginia.

travel agency website examples

The site features a series of high-quality images on its homepage that highlight the various activities available to visitors within the city.

From there, the page is divided into sections that cover hotels, restaurants, recreation, and other activities.

If this doesn’t sound like a novel approach, that’s because it isn’t.

But the site makes it easy for visitors to see why they should visit the city, as well as access all of the information they need to plan their trip.

In this case, simplicity works.

[tweet_box design=”default”]As you plan your site, remember not to get caught up in flashy design elements.[/tweet_box]

While a unique site can help you stand out, your priority should be to create a user-friendly experience that enables visitors to plan their next trip.

7. Utah, Life Elevated

Life Elevated is the tourism site for the state of Utah.

travel agency website examples

Much like many of the sites on this list, the homepage features large, compelling images of scenic destinations.

Then, users can click the featured call to action to learn more about the location in the photo.

This combination is extremely effective. The image elicits an emotional response, and the action-oriented text encourages visitors to put that excitement towards their own adventure.

But if you choose to take a similar approach, then pay attention to the size and quality of your images.

First, make sure that if you feature an image on your homepage, it’s high in quality. Grainy, low-quality photos won’t do you any favors in conveying the beauty of a location.

Then, always optimize your file sizes. Many site owners make the mistake of including massive image files on their homepages.

While these might look great, they can drastically slow down page load times.

And considering the impact that page speed has on page views, customer satisfaction, and conversion rates, it’s not something you can afford to damage.

So as you incorporate photos into your site, and especially onto your homepage, pay attention to file size. Your files should be large enough to produce high-quality detail, but not so big that they slow down your site.

As a general rule of thumb, your images should be 100KB or less .

After all, beautiful photos won’t do you any favors if no one sticks around long enough for them to load.

Crop your images to the necessary size and compress them before uploading, and they’ll be much more helpful in moving you towards your site’s goals.

8. Travel Oregon

One of the most creative sites on this list is Travel Oregon .

travel agency website examples

Like many of the other examples on this page, it’s designed to attract visitors to the state.

But unlike any of the others, it presents the various regions and attractions with a video game-inspired design.

The homepage begins by explaining that “Oregon is magic,” then encourages visitors to learn more about the state with choose-your-own-adventure style calls to action like, “Wander into the forest,” “Visit the Rose City,” and “See the magic Coast.”

travel agency website examples

From there, each of these calls to action directs users to more information (and real photos) of their selected region.

This kind of spin on website design isn’t for everyone. But for the fun, laid-back feeling Oregon is aiming to convey on their site, it’s perfect.

It’s also a fantastic reminder that travel sites can be as unique as the destinations they promote.

While there are a few basic elements you’ll need to include, feel free to get creative with the way you arrange them and present information.

9. Visit Australia

Although Australia’s official website includes plenty of eye-catching photos for visitors to check out, it also takes things a step further by heavily incorporating video into the mix.

travel agency website examples

Like many travel sites, it’s designed to encourage visitors to learn more about specific regions of the country, so they can determine which is best-suited to what they’re looking for in a trip.

And in addition to high-quality photos and compelling descriptions of each, the site also offers 360º videos. These give a more in-depth look than even the most high-quality photos could, so visitors can choose a vacation spot and explore it from the comfort of their home.

Interactive elements are becoming increasingly popular in web design for many industries. But in many cases, it feels like they only exist for the sake of checking “interactive” off on an arbitrary list of design elements.

So if you choose to include interactives, it’s important that they serve a clear purpose and don’t come off as gimmicky.

In this case, Visit Australia’s 360º videos are a fun, engaging addition to the site. They’re a special way to highlight different locations throughout the country, and add value to the overall site experience.

10. Live Africa

As a tourism site for an entire continent, Live Africa has an extremely large job.

travel agency website examples

But their site’s design does an excellent job of showing the exact feeling and experience they want to convey.

Live Africa encapsulates the essence of the African safari that the site heavily promotes, down to the textures and colors used throughout each page.

Plus, the striking videos of majestic animals roaming in the wild show the reader what they can witness when they plan their trip to Africa using the resources on the site.

Optimize for travel bookings

11. African Budget Safaris

African Budget Safaris has a similar goal to the previous example on this list but takes a slightly different approach with their design.

travel agency website examples

Right from the start, the site keeps things direct and to the point.

There are no frills here — just all the information a visitor needs to plan their African safari adventure.

But the most important detail here is that visitors can instantly tell that this site will help them find inexpensive trips.

Of course, the name itself implies that the company’s goal is to provide affordable safari trips.

But by highlighting details on budget-friendly, quality tours, and including information about discounts right in their header, the site makes it clear that providing value is a priority.

This is an important piece of information to convey, and the site does it extremely well.

After all, effectively communicating content is one of the most important functions of any website. You can have the most beautiful photos and visually appealing design in the world, but if readers have trouble finding key information, they won’t become customers.

Make your site’s value crystal clear. Your homepage should be optimized for not only conversions but also user-friendliness — and that means making sure that visitors can tell exactly what to expect from you.

12. Mount Kilimanjaro Guide

Unlike many of examples listed in this post, Mount Kilimanjaro Guide takes an information-based approach on their homepage.

travel agency website examples

This is a great way for the site to make a memorable impression on visitors.

There are a ton of sites out there with information on Mount Kilimanjaro. It’s an extremely popular tourist destination, so there are dozens of guide companies competing for potential hikers’ attention online.

But as you’ve likely gathered from the examples in this list so far, most travel sites feature one large, compelling image on their homepage.

That’s great for sites focused on promoting a unique location!

In this case, however, the site isn’t trying to convince visitors that they should visit Mount Kilimanjaro. Their target audience is made up of people who are already interested in climbing the mountain and are looking for more detailed information on how to accomplish this goal.

As a result, they created a copy-heavy homepage that jumps right into the value of their guide.

This might not seem like an especially compelling approach but think of it from the perspective of a traveler who’s looking for information about climbing the mountain.

If you visit a dozen sites with homepages featuring similar images of Mount Kilimanjaro, and one site that gives you detailed information from the second you arrive, which do you think you’ll remember?

Probably the one that promises an approach with a summit success chance of 90%.

If your travel site operates within a competitive niche, look at what your competitors are doing to figure out how you can set your company apart.

And even if you don’t operate within a competitive niche, this site also serves as a great example of how to write effective copy.

Many site owners make the mistake of letting their images do all of the “talking.” But while stunning photos are great for grabbing visitors’ attention, they’re ultimately not what will drive most of them to take action.

When done well, your copy can be your pitch, presentation, and close all on its own. So as you create your site, don’t let this essential element become a last-minute consideration.

13. The Hawaiian Islands

The Hawaiian Islands’ website offers a no-fuss user experience.

travel agency website examples

At first, The Hawaiian Islands seems to be an average travel site.

And in many ways, it is. It features a scenic landscape image with tourists enjoying a hike, and a standard navigation bar with all of the options you’d expect.

But take a second look, and you’ll see how clean and simple the design is.

The navigation hierarchy is broken down into six basic tabs so that users can find exactly what they’re looking for within one or two clicks.

And for visitors who aren’t sure what, exactly, they’re looking for, the “Scroll to continue” tag at the bottom of the page encourages them to keep reading and learn more.

Altogether, these elements make for a direct, effective site. And for users who want a simple way to plan a trip, this is perfect.

After all, most of us take vacations to relax — so preparing for one shouldn’t be a stressful process.

14. Lake Crackenback

The website for the Lake Crackenback Resort & Spa does a nice job of balancing detail and design.

travel agency website examples

When it comes to creating any kind of website, it’s often challenging to strike a balance between including enough information, but not so much that you overwhelm your visitors.

This is especially true for travel sites.

You need to explain to visitors why they should visit the destination you’re promoting, and show them all of the great experiences they could have by planning a trip. You’ll also want to make it clear what role your site plays in the planning process.

But if your site appears too complicated, visitors might leave in favor of a simpler, easier option.

Lake Crackenback’s site is a great example of how to walk this fine line. There are several menu items, but nothing feels cramped, and it’s all easy to navigate.

Visitors have the option to explore information about hotels, dining, events, and activities — essentially, all the details they might need to plan their trip.

But all of this information is neatly organized into tabs, instead of cluttering up the homepage.

So as you design your site, make sure to do so in a way that won’t overwhelm your visitors.

You likely have lots of helpful content you want to share with prospective travelers.

And that’s great!

But don’t attempt to fit it all onto one page.

Make sure you give everything some breathing room and focus on letting visitors access the pages that are most relevant to their needs.

15. Visit Idaho

The next state-focused site on our list, Visit Idaho , is a breeze to use.

travel agency website examples

At first glance, this may look like a fairly standard tourism site. But Idaho’s website is unlike any of the others on this list.

So, what sets it apart?

Simple: It uses graphics in its menu.

This may seem like a small decision, but it makes navigation that much easier. Visitors can easily spot the tab that holds the information they need.

And beyond that, this setup also forces the site to group menu options using just four categories.

This makes the navigation process extremely straightforward. The more options you give visitors, the more they’ll have to consider before deciding which to click.

And while this may seem like a small concern, it can be the determining factor in whether a visitor decides to stay and engage with your content, or leave in favor of a simpler site.

So as you design your site, pay special attention to your navigation setup, and remember that navigating a site should be fun and frustration-free.

You can utilize anything from graphics to interactive elements to achieve this goal — as long as your final product is one that makes it easy for visitors to find and engage with the content that will get them closer to planning their trip.

16. Washington The State

It’s clear from Washington The State ’s homepage that its focus is on highlighting the state’s natural beauty, and this idea is apparent throughout the entire site.

travel agency website examples

Although the state also includes several large cities, the site goes heavy on the visuals showcasing its natural beauty.

As a result, we can gather that their target audience is prospective travelers who want to spend their trip enjoying the outdoors.

And while this might seem to limit their ability to attract vacationers, choosing a specific audience is a wise choice.

That’s because marketing a destination isn’t all that different from marketing a product or service.

And as any experienced marketer will tell you, having a clear picture of your target audience is absolutely essential for creating effective campaigns and content.

When you try to cater to too many people, it’s difficult to really engage anyone. Instead, you’ll be more effective when you narrow in on a defined audience.

This way, you can keep that audience in mind as you develop each part of your marketing strategy. You can select images, create design elements, and write copy with the goal of connecting with a specific set of users.

By keeping their priorities and preferences in mind, you’ll be able to create an entire marketing strategy that matches what they’re looking for in a vacation.

On this site, for example, even the subtle, natural-toned color scheme is designed to match the scenic imagery.

And while this might not appeal to travelers looking to explore downtown Seattle, that’s okay — because the site’s primary goal is to engage visitors looking for an outdoor-focused adventure.

So if you’re struggling to figure out how to market your site or destination, it might be time to narrow your audience.

Determine exactly who you want to reach, and it will be much easier to figure out what kinds of content you should be producing to attract their attention.

17. Egyptian Tourism Authority

On the exact opposite end of the spectrum from the previous example, the Egyptian Tourism Authority ’s website does an excellent job of highlighting different types of trips and experiences available to travelers.

travel agency website examples

In this case, they opted not to niche down — and it works.

That’s in large part because the site is designed to highlight the country’s variety and cultural richness.

The first thing visitors see is a stunning landscape. From there, the photos on the page display Egypt’s diversity, showcasing everything from beaches to deserts to the iconic Giza Pyramids.

The idea they’re attempting to convey is that the country holds something for everyone.

While narrowing in on a specific attraction would’ve made it easier to write copy and tailor their content to a specific type of traveler, this approach lets the site show off several different attractions.

And while it might seem contradictory to place this example of a site that covers an entire country immediately following a site that focuses on a subset of attractions within a specific state, the takeaway is that there’s no “best” approach that will work for every site.

If you’re working to increase tourism in an entire region or country, you’ll need to design for a broad audience. But if you’re trying to reach travelers looking for a specific type of trip or tour experience, you might see better results by niching down.

Determine what you’re hoping to accomplish with your site, then work from there.

18. Costa Navarino

Costa Navarino is located on the Mediterranean coast of Greece, and their site focuses on highlighting the beauty and uniqueness of the destination.

travel agency website examples

Their site seems to have one main objective: to make visitors forget about everything but the beautiful island scenery in front of them.

Travel sites are particularly effective when they enable potential customers to envision themselves in luxurious destinations from the minute they arrive on the homepage.

That can be the primary motivation for a traveler to book tickets from their cold home in the winter — and Costa Navarino’s site reflects this.

To accomplish this goal, they feature stunning images of coastlines, beaches, pools, and luxury villas. The weather report in the top right corner is a nice touch, too.

Altogether, the site does a nice job of minimizing distractions. Site visitors are encouraged to focus solely on the destination in front of them — at least until they’re ready to start taking steps to plan their trip.

19. Experience Columbus

Experience Columbus is the state of Ohio’s site for attracting visitors to their capital city.

travel agency website examples

The first thing you’ll notice on this site, after the gorgeous shot of the city’s skyline, is that the site is fast and appealing.

Of course, the site looks nice. But arguably even more important than that it loads extremely quickly. And it doesn’t lag on mobile devices, either.

Since many people now use smartphones and tablets to access information online, this last detail is critical.

And beyond that, the site is designed to be extremely user-friendly on any device.

Regardless of a visitor’s browser or screen size, it’s easy for them to access information about sightseeing, restaurants, events, hotels, neighborhoods, and virtually anything else they might want to know about the city.

So as you design your travel site, make sure that user experience is a key consideration right from the start.

Utilize responsive design, so that travelers can easily navigate your content on whatever device they’re using. Then, ensure that your testing process includes a variety of operating systems.

When not coded correctly, elements like buttons and your navigation bar can appear distorted on devices other than desktop and laptop computers. This can easily make or break a user’s experience with your site.

You don’t want this to be the determining factor in whether a user decides to visit your city or sign up for your tour service — so invest the time it takes to create a user-friendly site.

20. Discover Chile

The last site on our list is Chile’s official tourism site, Discover Chile .

travel agency website examples

The first thing you’ll notice on their homepage is likely the stunning image of a whitewater kayaker flying over a waterfall.

But after that , you’ll see the goal logo at the top of the page, announcing that Chile is the “World’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination.”

Chile has received numerous awards for tourism, and it displays the most prestigious of these awards prominently on its homepage. The slideshow features three hero images, each with a different award at the top.

This is essentially a form of social proof.

If you’re not familiar with the concept of social proof , it’s the practice of using third-party reviews and opinions to create positive associations with your brand or business.

After all, consumers know that companies are biased towards whatever it is that they’re promoting.

As a result, they’re typically more inclined to trust the opinions of other consumers and organizations that don’t have a clear incentive to speak highly of a particular product or service.

That’s why many of us seek out customer reviews and ratings before purchasing anything online.

Of course, reviews work a bit differently within the travel industry. Travelers might rate specific attractions they visit or tours they attend, but most won’t take the time to write and publish a review of a destination as a whole.

But in Chile’s case, the titles they received from World Travel Awards are just as compelling.

And if a visitor in search of an adventurous trip lands on this homepage, they’ll immediately know that the country offers what they’re looking for — and they don’t have to take a biased tourism site’s word for it.

If your city, attraction, or site has earned any awards or distinctions, be sure to feature them prominently.

Even if it’s just a small award from a local organization, having some sort of third-party verification can go a long way in building trust with your visitors.

There’s no guaranteed template to follow when designing a travel website.

The 20 sites in this post alone cover a variety of design styles and approaches — they each work for their own unique audiences and goals.

Regardless of your industry or niche, there are a few important points to keep in mind when working on your site:

  • Make sure your navigation is simple. Graphics, smart category grouping, and smaller menus can all help with this.
  • Images play a huge role with travel sites! Don’t be afraid to use big banner images. Just make sure that your file sizes don’t slow down your page load times .
  • Try to set your site apart from the rest. Figure out what your competitors are doing, then aim to come up with a unique approach.

Make your website better. Instantly.

In this section, we're referring to third-party website programs that are specifically designed for travel agents. Examples include Voyager 1 , Travefy , Passport Online, Truevail, and Advaia.

Approximately 65% of host agenies offer some sort of website program to their agents.

Costs for these types of programs typically range from free to $70/month. Oftentimes, if you sign up through a host agency, you will have access to one of these programs. Since hosts use a higher volume of these website programs, you may get a lower price for a third-party travel agency website through your host.

But if this is the route you want to go, it's still important to see what program you like best . . . It might even help you decide what host is best for you .

We peeked at our host agency database : Approximately 65% of host agencies offer some sort of website program to their agents.

Most of the time when a host agency offers a consumer-facing website program for travel agents, it is offered through third-party travel agency website programs like the ones listed above.

According to HAR's annual research papers , Online Agency, Travefy, Passport Online and Voyager Travel were the most popular 3rd-party travel agency website options in our 2023 survey:

How do you know if a third-party travel agency website is best for you? Here's how to decide:

Who is it for?

Is a third-party website right for you? Here's a quick list that illustrates if it might be a good match:

  • You want to have a “hands-off” website with little to no set-up or maintenance.
  • You don’t need/want control over all aspects of the site but still want an online presence.
  • You want clients to be able to research and book travel on your website.
With these websites, you'll have access to pre-designed templates, pre-filled content, a booking engine (in some cases), and automatic updates.

Here's a deeper dive into features of third-party websites:

Pros & Cons

  • Pros: In general, a major benefit of using a third-party travel agency website is the ease of use and its customization to the travel industry . With these websites, you'll have access to pre-designed templates, pre-filled content, a booking engine (in some cases), and automatic updates.
  • Cons: On the flip side, since most of the design collateral and content is pre-filled, it may be hard to brand to your agency and reflect the unique voice of your business.

Third-party travel agency websites usually have multiple design templates you can choose from. The amount of design flexibility you have will depend on the platform. Some allow you the ability to add your logo and maybe choose a general color scheme but you won’t be able to customize or change much else. Others have more design options with drag n' drop features similar to the website builders we'll go over next.

The biggest benefit of third-party travel agency websites is the content! They are pre-filled with detailed content on destinations, suppliers, ships, trip types, etc. that your clients will be able to search through and read. They also commonly have supplier specials and news feeds that are automatically updated. You will need to customize the sections of your site that are specific to your agency, like your about us page or your meet the team page. If you don’t want to write content, you can always hire a content writer.

Because there is limited editing of the website layout, you are typically just editing the text for a page. The more advanced options are drag n' drop style. I would say the learning curve is pretty easy for both types.

While pre-filled content on third-party travel agency websites is its biggest benefit, it can also be a curse for those who are going for SEO.  Why? Duplicate content from cookie-cutter sites is often seen as negative. Search engines don’t want someone to search a term and pull up 100s of travel agent sites that all (essentially) the same content.

“Pure affiliate sites consisting of content that appears in many other places on the web are highly unlikely to perform well in Google search results.” - Google Answers

That being said, if you just want to have a website to direct people to and don’t want to hassle with trying to rank with search engines, these sites more than get the job done!

Appearance:

We've included some screenshots of the top third-party travel agency websites from Voyager Travel , and Passport Online . (An example from Travefy's new travel agent website platform is soon to come, so stay tuned!)

2. Website Builders (Build Your Own Travel Agency Website)

As opposed to third-party agency websites, website builders offer a little more flexibility for customization. Common examples of website builders are Wix (this is what HAR recommends), SquareSpace , Weebly 2 , and GoDaddy .

If you want to fast-track this process, we generally recommend that newbies create a travel agency website via Wix. Why? Because Wix is user-friendly and you can create your travel agency website in 7 minutes flat. (No Joke. We have a video to prove it.)

But we understand you're here to shop around :) There's a lot of great programs out there that allow you to easily build your own professional-looking website with no coding knowledge necessary.

Wix and Squarespace were the top website builders travel advisors reported using in our 2023 hosted travel advisor survey:

Let's dig into these types of sites, and how they're good for travel agencies.

Websites builders are best for those who:

  • Want to personalize their travel agency website with their own structure and content
  • Don’t mind putting in the work themselves to create a website for their travel agency'

They're the happy medium between 3rd-party sites and 100% custom jobs (more on that later). They offer more opportunities for customization (incorporating your own branding, design, and content) without sacrificing ease of use.

Here are some more details:

Pros & Cons of Website builders:

  • Pros: The biggest pros are user-friendly template options, and the ability to customize them to your brand.
  • Cons: A booking engine is not included (if you want that) and it's a bigger time investment than third-party programs.

Website builders have loads of different designs that you can customize with different colors, images, and layouts. Wix even has specific travel agency website templates!   You’re easily able to change it and make it your own so your site doesn’t look like a "cookie-cutter" site.

Travel agency websites built with website builders like Wix and Squarespace will require that you write your own content, create your own pages and structure it accordingly. The templates usually have layouts with dummy text to give you an idea of a typical website layout with what type of information a page can hold but it isn’t usable content. If you don’t want to write content, you can pay extra for a content writer.

These sites are typically drag n’ drop meaning you drag, say, a text box where you want it and ‘drop’ it. And voila! You have a text box where you want it! They’re built to make it easy for people with no coding knowledge to create nice-looking websites. I would say the learning curve is pretty low when it comes to editing your website.

This is an area where website builders have really advanced over the last few years. There is still a stigma around website builders and bad SEO that arose from their early days but rest assured, you can have a successful, ranking travel agency website on a website builder platform. The SEO edits we mention above are doable with most website builders.  WebsiteToolTester.com  has a super helpful chart that shows the specific SEO capabilities of the different website builders.

Here are a few examples of common website builders that travel agents used to create their travel agency website:

3. Content Management Systems (CMS)

Content management systems (CMS) are for more advanced users (or for those who want to hire a developer). Examples of CMSs are WordPress , Joomla! , and Drupal .

No doubt about it, CMSs are another popular way to build travel agency websites on the cheap. There is a lot more flexibility with CMS . . . but with that comes more complexity.  If you frustrate easily and friends would never call yourself technologically inclined, this is not the option for you!

CMS programs are free but you’ll need to pay for hosting your CMS ~$10/month. Other potential costs could be premium plug-ins and hiring a developer.

While you don’t need to know coding to get a CMS site off the ground, to get a site to look like the professional sites you see, you will most likely need a little developer's help (and that can add up quickly).

Are you cut out for a CMS? Here's how to tell:

  • You want to completely personalize their website with their own structure and content
  • You're savvy
  • You know a bit of coding and you're not afraid to use (or learn to use it)
  • You don’t mind spending time learning the CMS backend

Pros & Cons of CMS

CMS' by nature are more complicated, which can work for you or against depending on what you're looking for. Here's the pros and cons in a nutshell

  • Pros: There are 1,000s of templates, they're cost-effective, you can edit SEO aspects, and there's a ton of flexibility as to what your site can look like and what features it has.
  • Cons: Most of the pros are also cons. But some of the challenges you may encounter are a higher learning curve, takes more time, effort, knowledge, and upkeep, there are more "hidden costs" (some plug-ins and themes cost extra), you can royally mess it up if you don't know what you're doing.

With the three CMS’s we mentioned above, you have access to loads of templates. WordPress has a variety of travel agency website templates/themes .

You can search through included templates or ones designed by others. Some are free. Some are not. Once you have your template, you're able to customize it to your specific branding (coding oftentimes required) and added plug-ins (costs vary, many free) to give your site additional functionality.

For travel agency websites built with CMSs, you will need to write your own content, create your own pages, and structure it accordingly.  Some themes will have dummy text and structure that you can copy over to help you start but the content won’t be usable. If you don’t want to write content, you can pay extra for a content writer.

The biggest drawback to using a CMS for travel agency websites is that the backend is much more complicated and ‘less pretty’ to use.

There's a steeper learning curve compared to other travel agency website options. To get the best results, you often need to know how to code a bit (or hire a developer).  When you’re editing a page in a CMS, you’re not really sure what the design aspect will look like until you preview or publish your page.

Since everything is so flexible and customizable, you have the ability to steer your own SEO. Remember, simply having a CMS like WordPress doesn’t make your site rank high in the search engines , it is the work you put into cultivating your SEO on the site.

Here are two different examples of travel agency websites created from WordPress:

4. Hire a Developer to Create Your Travel Agency Website

Hiring a developer is for those who want it all and have the budget for it. It's easy (depending on how involved you want to be) because you can wash your hands by making your own website. Here's a few examples of travel agency websites created with the help of a developer:

Costs vary widely but this is by far the most expensive option. Expect at least $500 and up to $1,000’s of dollars for a full website build.

Is hiring a developer for you?

Hiring is the developer is great for you if:

  • You don’t want to have to ever ‘touch’ your website
  • You have a specific design or functionality they want
  • You have a larger budget

Pros and Cons of Hiring a developer

When it comes to hiring a developer, you have lots of options. You may have started your site using one of the methods above and just need a little help or some tweaks that you want to hire someone to do. On the other hand, you might want to have someone build your travel agency website from the ground up and not have to worry about it.

Pros: It's customized to your exact design wants, you can add specific features, and there's minimal work on your part so you can focus on what you're good at (selling travel!)

Cons: Expensive, and you'll likely work through your developer for future updates and changes (which is also expensive!)

Since you’re working with a developer, you can sketch up the way you want your site and your developer should be able to deliver. If you’re not sure what you want it to look like, you might have to pay extra for design services. A quick way to save money is to research other websites and take screenshots or notes on what you like about those sites. Maybe it was the color, the font, the style.

With developer-built travel agency websites, you will need to write your own content, create your own pages and structure it accordingly but the developer should be able to help with best practices for page structures. If you don’t want to write content, you can pay extra for a content writer.

Depending on where and how your developer sets up your site and what level of access you want, you may or may not go into the backend of your travel agency website. Typically speaking, if you hired a developer, you’ll likely use them for any updates as well. Expect to pay for their time when you have updates or change requests.

You’ll want to check your developer's credentials to see if they have experience designing websites with SEO in mind or if they work with an SEO expert to make sure your site is in tip-top shape. Don’t forget that much of the SEO legwork is in the page’s content.

In our annual travel agent survey, we ask advisors what websites they use. In our 2023 survey, the majority of advisors reported using a 3rd-party travel agent website (whether on their own, or through their host, consortia, or franchise).

The vast majority of those said they built their own using a website builder like Wix or Squarespace . Another thing to note, only 26% of travel agencies had booking engines on their site and 76% of those were because the booking engine came with their site.

Below you can find more details on the sales volume to expect if you plan to put a booking engine on your travel agency website. It's definitely worth thinking about the valuable real estate a booking engine will take up and if that space could be better used to build your brand and connect with your prospective clients.

Other (Important) Website Purchases to Keep in Mind

A domain is your website address. Ours is www.HostAgencyReviews.com

Cost:  Depending on your name, a domain costs about $10-$15. Just an FYI, you technically don’t own the domain, you’re renting it so don’t let it lapse or someone could take your domain! You may also want to consider buying the .org or the plural of your domain.

Your domain should not be confused with your website. After you purchase your domain, there won’t be anything at the address until you purchase and link your website. Most places that sell domains also offer their own website building program but we recommend sticking to the travel agency website options we went over in this article.

Popular places (domain registrars) to purchase domains:

  • GoDaddy , (While it has strong brand recognition and has competitive pricing for your first year, GoDaddy jacks up the price on renewals. You can always change domain registrars, but it takes time and energy.)
  • Google Domains ,
  • NameCheap, (This is who we use at HAR. Initial pricing is competitive and the renewals are still fairly priced.)

Find a domain starting at $0.48

powered by Namecheap

All the files on your site have to be stored somewhere! Your hosting provider has that space for you. When you use a website builder like Wix,  Weebly   or  Squarespace  they host your website for you. If you use a CMS like WordPress , you will need to find a hosting company to store your CMS. Many CMSs offer their own hosting as well.

Cost depends on how much space you need but for a typical website, expect to pay <$10/month. But like domain pricing, it often goes up to about $15-20/month after the first year. You can move hosts at any time.

Popular Hosting Providers:

  • GoDaddy , or
  • WP Engine (save 20% on monthly plans | 4 months free on annual plans using this link) . WP Engine is the premium, white-glove host, meaning top website speeds, amazing support . . . and it has premium pricing as a result.

We highly recommend getting a custom email at your domain to add that professional polish. Consider our email: [email protected] compared to [email protected]

Costs for custom emails are about $5/month.

You can typically get custom emails through the company you purchase your domain with. If you’re interested in using Google Workspace to get your custom email, we have some 2 week free trials + 10% promo codes for new users! Pop us a note in the comments and we’ll send you over a code!

Here are a few popular custom email providers:

  • Google Workspace , (This is who we use and HIGHLY recommend because of the ease of use + our 10% off promo code above)
  • GoDaddy  (use our link for a $9.99/domain promo), or
  • NameCheap  (use our link for a $9.95/domain promo)

Creating a website is a fantastic way to showcase you and your travel agency to the world. It is an easy way for potential clients to learn more about you and what you offer. Hopefully, we’ve made the process of travel agency websites and all that comes with it, less daunting and more accessible for first-time website builders!

10 Best Travel Website Design Examples That Will Make You Want to Pack Your Bags

published 13, October 2020

updated 24, July 2023

For several years, tourism has been a significant contributor to the global economy, and many countries rely on this sector for their GDP growth. However, the COVID-19 pandemic presented an unparalleled challenge to the industry in 2020. With most countries imposing travel restrictions or in lockdown, tourism faced immense pressure to stay afloat.

With the internet being the primary source of information for many people, travel websites have become crucial in providing comprehensive details about tourism services and attractions. It’s no wonder that tourism companies invest heavily in their online platforms, ensuring they are as user-friendly as possible.

As a web design agency that has worked with various travel agencies, we understand the importance of creating exceptional travel websites in 2023. We’ve compiled a list of some of the best travel website designs to get you inspired.

Captivating Travelers: Must-Have Features for an Outstanding Tourism Website

Before we start exploring the best travel websites, let’s define what makes a great tourism platform and what features you should consider when designing one in 2023.

  • Visually Appealing Design: A clean, modern, and visually appealing design is crucial for capturing visitors’ attention. High-quality images and videos showcasing the destination’s highlights, culture, and natural beauty are essential for evoking a sense of wanderlust.
  • Easy Navigation: A user-friendly interface with clear navigation menus and a logical site structure ensures that visitors can quickly find the information they’re looking for. Including a search function, filters, and categorization of content can further enhance the browsing experience.
  • Mobile Responsiveness: A responsive design ensures that the website is accessible and functional on various devices, including smartphones and tablets. This is important as a significant portion of users access websites on mobile devices, especially while traveling.
  • Informative Content: Provide detailed, up-to-date, and accurate information about the destination’s attractions, accommodations, restaurants, and activities. Content should be written in a captivating and engaging manner, enticing visitors to explore and plan their trip.
  • Multilingual Support: Offering content in multiple languages increases the website’s accessibility to a broader audience, ensuring that travelers from different linguistic backgrounds can comfortably navigate and understand the information provided.
  • Interactive Maps: Incorporate interactive maps that allow users to explore the destination, find nearby attractions, and get directions. This helps visitors plan their routes and visualize the proximity of various points of interest.
  • Personalization: Personalized recommendations based on users’ preferences and interests can enhance the user experience and make the website more relevant to individual visitors.
  • Social Media Integration: Incorporate social media sharing buttons and feeds, allowing users to share their favorite attractions, accommodations, and experiences with their networks. This not only amplifies the destination’s reach but also adds a layer of social proof.
  • Reviews and Testimonials: Including reviews and testimonials from previous visitors adds credibility to the website and helps potential travelers make informed decisions about their trip.
  • Online Booking and Reservation System: A seamless and secure online booking system for accommodations, tours, and activities simplifies the planning process for travelers and increases the likelihood of them making reservations directly through the website.
  • Contact Information and Support: Provide clear contact information and support options, such as email, phone, or live chat, to assist visitors with any questions or concerns they may have while planning their trip.

By integrating these features, a tourism website can effectively engage visitors, provide valuable information, and ultimately inspire them to book their next adventure.

Why travel to Moscow

Contrasts: 12th century monasteries and some of the tallest skyscrapers in Europe can be found side-by-side in this complex and captivating city. The diversity of this mega-city is astounding. Only a few steps away from the solemn red facade of the Kremlin and the sounds of righteous church bells, a buzzing night scene and alternative-fashion boutiques can be found.

Culture: In Moscow only the best goes. Be it a theatre, restaurant or gallery, the standards are certain to be world-class. The Bolshoi ballet company is reputed to be even better than the Mariinsky’s and “MMOMA” (Moscow’s museum of modern art) exhibits works of art as profound as any that could be found in the famed MOMA.

Convenience: Unlike the rest of Russia, it’s easy enough to get by with just English in Moscow and, driving excepted, it is surprisingly safe: the murder rate is lower than in some of America’s major cities.

Why visit Moscow

It would take more than two days to walk around the perimeter of the biggest city in Europe, Moscow. Many of its inhabitants barely know what’s beyond the few blocks around their flat and there are so many attractions that it’s almost impossible to know where to start. If there is such a thing as an antidote to boredom, Moscow City is it. The mind-boggling range and diversity of things to do, places to eat, parks, historical monuments and more means that a vacation in Moscow has a wealth of activities to offer for every type of traveler, from young families to retirees.

Reasons to Vacation in Moscow in 2022

The Bolshoi theatre is familiar to almost everyone as Russia’s grandest theatre, but what people don’t know is that there are many more bolshoi (big) sites in Moscow that are worth travelling all the way to Moscow to see. For more than 100 years, the world’s biggest bell has been hidden behind the Kremlin’s walls and inside Moscow’s main park (which is bigger than some countries!) there is the world’s largest outdoor ice-rink. Travelers that visit Moscow can stay at the Izmailovo, Europe’s biggest hotel, then eat at the largest and most historic McDonald’s in Europe and after that have fun at the largest European indoor theme park!

Ancient Past & Stunning Architecture:

As those who travel to Moscow will see, just because Moscow is a city of record-breaking, glitzy high-rises doesn’t mean that there is no history. On the famous Arbat street, time-worn, wooden storehouses and century-old churches are squashed up against grey, soviet blocks which are then towered over by 21st century office-blocks. Unlike its much younger sibling, St Petersburg, Moscow’s roots stretch way back to the 12th century. Within the walls of the Kremlin, the city’s oldest building the Cathedral of Assumption can be admired in all its 500+ years of age.

Culture & Convenience

For a foreigner who has never visited Russia, Moscow is the perfect stepping stone into this great land of mystery. From the country’s best classical ballet troupes to snow-white troikas trotting through the parks, all the highlights of Russian culture can be had in Moscow without any of the complications that would be expected in other, less developed regions of Russia.

Cheap as Caviar

In Moscow, everything is bargain when with the current foreign exchange rates being what they are. Even caviar doesn’t seem so dear when the exchange rate is at 60rub to the dollar, so go on indulge yourself! Take your 2022 vacation in Moscow and have the best of both worlds, with European luxury at very affordable prices.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

We had a great time both in Moscow and St Petersburg. Your travel agency was excellent in coordinating the whole trip. Everything worked like clockwork. The guides assigned to us were very nice and friendly. They had a great knowledge of their subjects. The cars and the drivers were great. The hotels were good and the itinerary was good. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. It was nice dealing with you and your company. Thank you very much for a great Russian experience. Have a great future ahead
