Jordan - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Holidays to Jordan will be incomplete without a visit to Petra

Located at the crossroads of Asia , Africa , and Europe , Jordan is a representation of all of the intersections that occur in that crossroads. Once home to Romans and Ottomans, holidays to Jordan will bring you its rich history and culture filled with color, heart, and vibrancy. Bordered by Iraq, Iran , Saudi Arabia, and Israel , a trip to Jordan has something for all travel bugs.

Tour Highlights

  • Visit the ancient Nabataean city of Petra, and go back in time to when things were a little simpler; if that’s not enough, it’s a modern Wonder of the World.
  • Experience the viciously natural cycle of Wadi Rum, a desert that is a day away from Aqaba and Petra.
  • Swim with the fishes in the Red Sea.
  • See wildlife and scenery that is ancient while remaining timeless at the Dana Biosphere Reserve.
  • Live in the dichotomy of the city of Amman ; urbane and modern in the West, and earthy and ancient in the East.

Travel Tips

  • Other than covering yourself appropriately — men with legs covered and women with arms, legs, and hair covered —there aren’t many customs that you need to worry about.
  • It is a very safe place to be; none of the revolts or riots have spilled over from its neighbors. However, being a tourist, one needs to follow the usual safety precautions.
  • Bring good walking shoes and breathable clothing; it’s hot and you’re going to be doing a lot of walking.
  • Water is safe to drink, although it is heavily chlorinated so it might taste bad; just to be safe, stick with bottled water and pasteurized milk.
  • Be aware of your sun limits; the sun is brutal and you could get badly sunburnt, or worse, pass out from heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
  • If you need it, healthcare in Jordan is generally good, and there are hospitals in big cities and clinics in smaller villages.

Jordan has seasonal weather so please do check up on best time to visit Jordan before planning your tour. If you’re still hunting for more things to do and places to explore in Jordan, do check out our Jordan Travel Guide for more information.

If you really want to get lost in the stories of the Bible, head to Jordan and stay in Amman, Jerash, Tel Mar Elias, or Pella.
  • Discover the thrilling adventures of Wadi Rum:  In southern Jordan, near the Saudi Arabian border, this 74,200-hectare reserve flourishes as a mixed cultural and natural site. Explore Wadi Rum and its narrow gorges, ramps, natural arches, massive landslides and caverns, and towering cliffs are evidence of millions of years of landscape evolution. Camel rides, hikes, 4WD rides, camping, and a variety of other exciting activities are available among these shifting desert landscapes. While camping in Wadi Rum, you can stargaze and watch the landscape change throughout the night. Climb the beautiful Little Bridge or Burdah rock bridge for a breathtaking view of the desert. Hike through the canyon of Abu Khashaba and eat a traditional Bedouin lunch. Sandboarding on the Al Hasany dunes is a must-do activity.
  • Tick off the highlights in Madaba: Visit Madaba , a friendly market town, that is known for its collection of Byzantine-era mosaics and has one of Jordan's largest Christian populations. This vibrantly colored city encompasses numerous attractions through its historical sites and offers a hearty Jordanian experience. Visit St. George's Church to see the amazing Mosaic map and the Church of Apostles to see the inscribed figures of 12 apostles. View the entire city and the Jordan River from the top of Mount Nebo, or visit Carpet City for the best quality and most beautiful carpets. And if you happen to be in Madaba on a Friday, you will be able to witness the town's long tradition of joyfully and loudly expressing its religious tolerance at dawn.

Tours in Jordan - Questions and Answers

Most foreign visitors need a visa to enter Jordan, although some nationalities can apply for a visa on arrival. We advise that you research Jordan’s visa requirements for your country before making travel arrangements.

Even though the official language of Jordan is Arabic, English is widely spoken in the country. Besides Arabic, English and a number of minority languages, you can also find French and German-speaking people in Jordan.

March to May are the busiest tourist months to visit Jordan. September to February is also ideal for travel due to the generally good weather, except for the biting cold nights in the desert areas. It is not advised to travel to Jordan between June and August unless you are prepared to deal with intense heat. However, the  best time to visit Jordan  is between March and May, when the weather is perfect, even when you want to travel to the desert.

Jordan is one of the safest countries in the Middle East. There is a robust security arrangement throughout the country. Apart from petty theft and crime, as are common in most countries, foreigners have nothing serious to fear while traveling in Jordan.

A  five-day Jordan itinerary  is enough to cover the country's highlights. But if you plan to explore Jordan at your own pace and savor its unique landscape, we recommend spending at least 10 days in the country.

Jordan Tours

Land of eternal mystery

Visiting Jordan is the kind of trip you plan around the sights and return talking about the people. There's no shortage of sights: even in a region full of must-sees, Petra – an entire city carved from reddish sandstone cliffs – is one of the most awe-inspiring archaeological sites in the world. Jordan's desert landscape and strangely familiar names evoke romantic images in the West; here, you can literally walk in the footsteps of Jesus or Lawrence of Arabia (or Indiana Jones, if you prefer). But whatever you tastes, be they the world-class diving in the Red Sea or the healing mud treatments of Dead Sea spas, Jordan's most lasting impression always seems to be its warm, welcoming people.

Jordan spieth leads the list of 10 big names to miss the cut at the valspar championship 2024, share this article.

jordan tours jordan

The first two days of the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook’s Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor, Florida, are in the books and there are several big-name PGA Tour stars headed home a few days early.

However, on the other side of the leaderboard, there are five players tied for the lead at 6 under: Kevin Streelman, Chandler Phillips, Stewart Cink, Brendon Todd and Mackenzie Hughes. There are nine players, including Justin Thomas, tied for sixth at 5 under, one back.

The biggest name to miss the cut is Jordan Spieth, who missed the weekend last week as well at the Players Championship.

Although the second round was suspended due to darkness and the cut won’t be made official until Saturday morning, Data Golf says there’s a 100 percent chance the cutline will fall at even par .

Here are 10 stars who are leaving the Valspar Championship on Friday afternoon.

PALM HARBOR, Fla. — Innisbrook and Bay Hill are separated by 100 miles on the road, two weeks on the PGA Tour calendar and $11.6 million in prize money. Another big difference might be the size of the field.

The Valspar Championship begins Thursday with 154 players. That’s the most ever for the Copperhead course at Innisbrook, meaning there most certainly won’t be enough daylight to finish weekday rounds in one day, rain or shine.

That’s quite a difference from two weeks ago at the Arnold Palmer Invitational , a signature event with a $20 million purse that had only 69 players and made Bay Hill feel like a ghost town during early practice.

“It is incredibly less efficient practicing here than it was at Bay Hill, is probably the biggest difference I see,” Jordan Spieth said Wednesday with a grin, his golf bag squeezed between two others on the range at Innisbrook.

“Part of that being that I was out of the country and then had a photo shoot the next morning,” he said. “And part of it being 155 players and a small range.”

Spieth was among the six player directors on the PGA Tour Enterprises board who  met Monday in the Bahamas with Yasir Al-Rumayyan , governor of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia that pays for LIV Golf.

He called the meeting “good” without going into detail, describing it only as a “really good meet-and-greet to ask questions and get understanding and see where we go for the first step.”

It was the threat of LIV Golf, which has lured away big names like Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka, that led to the PGA Tour developing $20 million events that would bring together the best in the PGA Tour.

The limited fields led to other players going to tournaments in between with hopes of earning some of the 15 spots available at signature events. And while it’s early in the season, that has put the squeeze on PGA Tour newcomers — mainly graduates from the Korn Ferry Tour — who are trying to get into more tournaments.

The response was to boost the Valspar Championship field beyond its normal 144 players, raising it to make sure everyone from the Korn Ferry Tour could play. That brought the number to 155 — it went down by one when Garrick Higgo withdrew — creating another strange element to the week.

There’s an alternate list, but none get in unless the field gets below 144 players. Typically, someone would have replaced Higgo. But this is all about creating spots.

“The situation isn’t perfect, but people need to remember why it was done,” Spieth said.

Justin Thomas isn’t sure what the solution is to create significant events for the top performers while not shutting out players lower on the priority list who aren’t getting enough chances.

“It’s what the answer has to be right now,” he said. “But not long term, I wouldn’t think.”

The Valspar Championship has attracted a reasonably good field considering it follows the $20 million purse at Bay Hill for 69 players and the $25 million purse at The Players Championship.

Xander Schauffele and British Open champion Brian Harman, who tied for second last week at the TPC Sawgrass, are the only players from the top 10 in the world at Innisbrook. But there’s also 10 more from the top 30, a list that includes Spieth and Thomas, two-time winner Sam Burns, Tony Finau and Cameron Young.

For Schauffele, it’s a time to get back on the horse.

“After a close call last week, sometimes it’s nice just to get back to work and kind of put your head down and try to figure out a new golf course,” he said. “So happy to be here.”

Three tournaments remain until the Masters, and 130 players at Innisbrook could get that invitation on Augusta National letterhead by winning. Opportunity abounds.

For most of them, the Copperhead course is regarded as among the best in the South, certainly on the Florida swing, with its tree-lined fairways and elevation.

Spieth said players wouldn’t say it was underrated because “they’d all rate it pretty high.”

He has his own special memories from the Valspar Championship. Yes, there was the playoff victory in 2015 before he went on a tear in the majors, winning the Masters and U.S. Open. More vivid is chipping in on the 17th hole, finishing in a tie for seventh in 2013 that led to him getting a PGA Tour card at age 20.

Jordan Spieth, Brian Harman among those projected to miss cut at Valspar Championship

PALM HARBOR, Fla. – Players had braced themselves for a challenging day weather-wise on Friday at the Valspar Championship, making sure to pack the waterproofs and umbrellas. But the strong winds that greeted early morning rounds soon died down, and the heavy rains expected to arrive never did.

As for Friday’s cutline at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort. Well, that was harsh. Play was suspended by darkness at 7:25 p.m. and slated to resume at 9 a.m. Saturday. The cut, as it sits right now, will be at even-par 142, and will leave some pretty strong players behind.

Among those not expected to make the weekend at Vaspar: Jordan Spieth, a past champion who shot 74 Friday to finish at 1-over 143; Keegan Bradley, a two-time winner in 2023 who shot 71 Friday to finish at 143; Sam Burns, a two-time Valspar champion who bogeyed his final hole to miss by a shot; 2019 U.S. Open champion and former Valspar champion Gary Woodland (75); last year’s Open Championship winner, Brian Harman (74); another Open champion, Francisco Molinari (73); Tony Finau (75); and 2023 Ryder Cup captains Luke Donald (73) and Zach Johnson (76).

Jordan Spieth says PGA Tour players are ready to meet with Saudis

  • Talks could break deadlock that is fracturing golf
  • Wyndham Clark leads Players Championship after two rounds

Jordan Spieth has confirmed player directors of the PGA Tour are close to sitting down with the governor of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund in a bid to break the deadlock which continues to seriously impact elite golf.

The PGA Tour and LIV Golf – which is funded by the PIF – remain on different paths. This week’s Players Championship, the PGA Tour’s flagship event, is taking place without high-profile LIV converts such as Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka and Cameron Smith. Earlier this week, the PGA Tour’s commissioner, Jay Monahan, insisted talks between his organisation and the PIF were “accelerating” with a view to reuniting a fractured sport.

Now, it has emerged Spieth and his fellow directors could have an audience with Yasir al-Rumayyan within days. The PIF’s governor has never previously addressed PGA Tour players.

“We are being encouraged to potentially meet with them at some point, yeah,” said Spieth. “I’m not sure that I can say much more other than we’re being encouraged to potentially meet with them.

“But at the same time, we probably feel like our membership should know timing and what could happen. There’s not a whole lot more I can say about that but we are being encouraged, obviously, which I think is probably a good thing; that the entire board should if there’s going to be any potential for a negotiation.”

Spieth was speaking after missing the cut at Sawgrass. The Texan shrugged off Thursday’s rules farrago also involving Rory McIlroy. Spieth and Viktor Hovland appeared to question whether McIlroy took a correct drop on their 16th hole of the first round.

“I thought it ended up in a good spot,” Spieth said. “I only walked over there because I thought he had dropped it and then he was questioning where he was dropping it. So I was just trying to make sure he didn’t play it and everyone was good. I was good with the spot he was choosing.

“I get it’s me and Rory, but that kind of conversation probably happened a dozen times yesterday in groups. Viktor was having the conversation and I only walked over because it seemed like, hey, let’s just make sure everything is all right, which I wasn’t even planning on getting involved and maybe shouldn’t have, but it seemed like they were maybe at a sticking point. So I thought maybe I could help.”

McIlroy’s hectic 73 on Friday included just seven pars. McIlroy double bogeyed the 14th. He will start the day three sitting eight adrift of Wyndham Clark, whose second 65 in a row took him to 14 under par. Matt Fitzpatrick is on minus nine after a 69.

Jordan Experience (Classic, Summer, Dead Sea Extension, 9 Days)

It's an experience not to be missed - a true "bucket-list" destination! It was wonderful stepping back in time and visiting places I had heard about growing up. Walking down the siq (in Petra) and seeing my first glimpse of the iconic Treasury building gave me goose bumps. It is something that will stay with me forever. as will floating in the Dead Sea which was another amazing experience. Insight took care of everything with a representative meeting us as we walked off the plane, rushed us through the VIP immigration station and on to our luggage collection & hotel. All our hotels were first class and we were well looked after by our guide and driver stopping at local Jordanian cafes and restaurants for lunch & snacks. I would thoroughly recommend the trip! But be prepared to walk, especially in Petra.

Very happy with the tour and a special tribute to our tour guide, Mohammed who gave us a very interesting history of the places we went to. He also went out of his way to take us out to experience the local culture in Downtown Amman on our last night. On the downside is we were not told of the exact time to meet on the first day of arrival at the hotel which made us nervous about missing out on the briefing. It will be helpful to place a note on the wall in advance

Perseids Meteor Shower - 8 days Tour

Perseids Meteor Shower - 8 days

Jordan had been on my bucket list for a while, so I decided what better time to go than for the Perseids Meteor Shower! The welcome transfer at the airport was great as the rep helped us through the visa process, which really helped make the whole arrival stress-free. The tour certainly was 'on the go', with lots of sights and cultural experiences packed into the 8 day trip. The highlights for me were definitely seeing the Treasury in Petra (and a walk up the Monastery is worth the climb!), star gazing in Dana Nature Reserve (unfortunately the road leading to Wadi Rum was closed while we were there), canyoning in Wadi Mujib and floating in the Dead Sea. All the hotels were clean, conveniently-located and had nice restaurants. The transportation was mostly modern air-conditioned vehicles, though on the drive to Dana we did have some older bumpy vehicles, but it was all part of the adventure. As a solo female traveller I felt completely safe and well-looked after the whole trip. I'll definitely be going on another On The Go tour soon!

“With his unique wit and candor, Jordan delves into our universal desires and exposes our collective idiocies. What a foolish time to be alive,” the Whitaker Center said in a news release.

PGA Tour’s Monahan describes ‘constructive’ meeting with Saudi leader of LIV Golf

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) — The PGA Tour took a first step in sparking negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s national wealth fund with a meeting in the Bahamas that Commissioner Jay Monahan described as “constructive” without offering many more details.

In a memo late Monday night to players, Monahan said the player directors on the PGA Tour Enterprises board met with Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of the Public Investment Fund that provides the money behind rival LIV Golf.

It was the first time player directors, including Tiger Woods, met with Al-Rumayyan. Woods played nine holes with him at Albany Golf Club, according to a person informed of the meeting who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the day.

The other player directors are Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth, Webb Simpson and Peter Malnati. Golfweek first reported the meeting was likely to take place Monday in Ponte Vedra Beach. It shifted to the Bahamas, where Woods often keeps his yacht.

“The conversation throughout was constructive and represents an important part of our due diligence process in selecting potential investors for PGA Tour Enterprises,” Monahan said in the memo. “This mirrors the approach we employed earlier this year as we evaluated an investment offer from the Strategic Sports Group.”

The PGA Tour, European tour and PIF reached an agreement announced June 6 to form a commercial partnership. The deal was to be finalized by the end of 2023. But amid government inquiries, and interest from private equity groups, the deal wasn’t done.

The PGA Tour selected SSG, a consortium of U.S. sports owners, in December. A month later, SSG pledged an initial $1.5 billion investment , which could increase to $3 billion. The next step is getting PIF as a minority investor or risk more players defecting to LIV Golf.

As the tour was negotiating with U.S. private equity, LIV Golf lured Masters champion Jon Rahm , along with Tyrrell Hatton, in a move that took more big names away from the PGA Tour and further splintered the golf landscape.

“During the session, Yasir had the chance to introduce himself to our player directors and talk through his vision, priorities and motivations for investing in professional golf,” Monahan said.

He told players he would keep them updated as much as possible, “but please understand that we need to maintain our position of not conducting negotiations in public.”

Malnati had said over the weekend there was “massive resistance” to Saudi involvement because of the surprise June 6 announcement — Monahan, board members Ed Herlihy and Jimmy Dunne were the only ones involved.

“As I’ve learned more, I think I understand better and I’m very open-minded to learning what involvement they want, what they want out of this and how they think they can help,” Malnati said. “On the surface, I think there are players who have resistance to that relationship, for sure. So that’s why I do think it’s important that maybe our next step is to meet at some point.”

Cantlay said without PIF investing in PGA Tour Enterprises, he could see golf going down a path of two rival leagues whose top players meet only four times a year at the majors.

Rory McIlroy is no longer on the board, giving up his seat in November and since being replaced by Spieth. He is among those who have met with Al-Rumayyan. McIlroy had said on a British soccer podcast at the start of the year that he returned from his visit and encouraged the tour to meet with the Saudi leader behind LIV Golf.

“I don’t think this is an overnight solution,” McIlroy said. “But if we can get the investment in, then at least we can start working towards a compromise where we’re not going to make everyone happy, but at least make everyone understand why we’re doing what we’re doing.”

Culture and customs.

As a Muslim country, Jordan’s culture is quite conservative, although not as conservative as some other Middle Eastern countries. Western influences (particularly in Amman and other large cities) have infiltrated Jordanian society so Jordan now possesses a mix of Arabian customs amid modern ways of life. Due to immigration, Jordan now has a significant Palestinian and Iraqi population, adding to the cultural diversity of the country.

Despite the outside influences, Islamic traditions are strong in Jordan with spectacular mosques signalling the call to prayer five times a day, Ramadan being observed each year and some segregation of the sexes occurring.

The desert-dwelling Bedouin have a distinct culture of their own, drawing on traditions that have been passed down for centuries. Living a largely nomadic lifestyle, the Bedouin rely on the herding of animals and the creation of handicrafts in the absence of a fertile environment to farm. With a strong musical heritage, traditional instruments are played and time-honoured traditions are continued.

Hospitality is a crucial element of Jordanian culture. Most visitors will be humbled by the kindness, sincerity and genuine care showed by Jordanians. Being welcomed into peoples’ homes is common, and can probably be attributed to the custom of welcoming strangers and sharing food when travelling in the unforgiving desert.

Eating and drinking

Intrepid believes that one of the best ways to experience a country is by eating! Whether you're sampling street food, savouring a cheap eat or indulging in a banquet, there are endless options to choose from wherever you are in the world. Featuring typical Middle Eastern ingredients like lamb, chickpeas, garlic and a range of aromatic herbs and spices, Jordanian cuisine is delicious.

Things to try in Jordan

Like many other Middle Eastern countries, a plate of shared breads and dips is a great way to begin a feast.

This traditional Bedouin dish of lamb and yogurt is usually served with rice and bread. This is the national dish of Jordan, so definitely try it before you leave.

These small, sweet pastries made with honey and nuts will have you going back for more.

The coffee in Jordan is strong. Often spiced with a hint of cardamom, coffee is strongly linked to the famed Jordanian hospitality, so drink up – it would be rude not to!

Geography and environment

Jordan is made up of a staggeringly diverse range of natural environments. From stark deserts to towering mountains, fertile wetlands, coastal reefs and urban cities, journeying through Jordan provides changing scenery and varying conditions.

Sharing borders with Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Israel and the Palestinian Territories, Jordan mixes modern architecture with heritage-filled buildings, well-manicured streets with historic alleyways and impressive mansions with simple homes.

Modern, developed cities like Amman and Aqaba feature unique architecture, spectacular mosques, five-star hotels and resorts. Small villages with rustic housing populate the less-built-up rural areas and Bedouin tents made of goat hair can be found in desert areas.

History and government

Early history.

The country now known as Jordan was originally inhabited by the Nabataeans thousands of years ago. Over the centuries, Jordan has been a place conquered and inhabited by many different people including the Romans, Greeks, Assyrians, Ottoman Turks, Egyptians and Mamluks (people of Kurdish origins). All these influences can still be seen today in Jordan's ancient ruins, architecture, crafts and arts. Many battles were fought in Ancient Jordan, including the Christian crusaders who clashed with Islamic Forces in Jordan during the 11th and 12th centuries. The first Muslim Dynasty began with the Umayyad Empire in 661.

Recent history

In 1950, Jordan was renamed the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and in 1951, King Abdullah I was assassinated while visiting a mosque. His eldest son became king but was removed from his duties in 1952 due to mental illness. In 1953, his teenage son Hussein Ibn Talal became king, and continued to rule for over 40 years. In the 1960s, Jordan saw many immigrants arrive and settle – mainly Palestinians escaping the conflict in their homeland.

In 1999, King Abdullah II succeeded his father King Hussein and continues to rule Jordan now. His reign has been characterized by liberal policies, economic reforms and technological advances. His wife, Queen Rania of Jordan, has a visible public profile, is active in many social causes and is regarded internationally as a highly influential woman.

Jordan travel faqs, do i need a covid-19 vaccine to join an intrepid trip.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travellers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises).

However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travellers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

Do you need a visa for Jordan?

Visas are required by all visitors entering Jordan.

Single entry visas valid for 14 days and can be obtained by most nationalities on arrival at the airport in Amman or at the Jordanian border for approximately JOD40.

It can be significantly more expensive to acquire your visa from the embassy in your home country.

If you require a stay longer than 14 days, visas obtained from the embassy in your home country will be valid for two months.

When is the best time to visit Jordan?

The weather in Jordan can get quite extreme. Overall, it tends to be hot during the day and cold at night (in desert areas, expect it to be extremely hot during the day and freezing at night). Yet during winter it can get bitterly cold, with snowfall occurring in some parts of the country.

Travelling during the summer months (June, July and August) can be challenging for those not accustomed to the heat, so visiting Jordan during spring and autumn is recommended for those who wish to escape the hotter temperatures.

Is tipping customary in Jordan?

Tipping is up to the individual in Jordan. Hotels and up-market restaurants typically add a surcharge that is included in bills, which is usually 10%. Rounding up bills and leaving spare change is a good idea when dining in smaller restaurants and when using taxis.

What is the internet access like in Jordan?

Internet access is growing rapidly in Jordan. Internet can usually be accessed from hotels and internet cafes in major cities. Expect little to no access in small towns, villages and other rural areas.

Can I use my cell phone while in Jordan?

Cell phone coverage is good in Jordan’s major cities and built-up areas like Amman and Aqaba. Expect limited to no phone coverage in more isolated areas like the desert. Ensure you have global roaming activated on your phone before leaving home.

What are the toilets like in Jordan?

Western-style toilets are common in modern hotels, malls and at popular tourist areas. Squat toilets are the standard throughout the rest of the country. Sometimes, you may need to pay and bring your own toilet paper when visiting public rest rooms.

What will it cost for a…?

Jordan's unit of currency is the Jordanian Dinar (JOD). Here's what you can expect to pay for a:

Street snack = 1-5 JOD Can of soft drink = 1 JOD Dinner at a restaurant = 10-45 JOD Embroidered shawl = 20-30 JOD

Can I drink the water in Jordan?

Drinking water from taps in Jordan can be safe, depending on where you are. It's considered safe to drink water from modern hotels that have filtered water but perhaps not so from smaller establishments and in rural areas. For environmental reasons, try to use a refillable water bottle rather than buying bottled water. Peel fruit before eating and avoid ice in drinks.

Are credit cards accepted widely in Jordan?

Major credit cards are widely accepted by stores in Jordan. Smaller cafes and shops may not accept credit cards so ensure you carry enough cash to cover small purchases.

What is ATM access like in Jordan?

ATMs are common in Jordan’s main cities so finding one won't be a problem. Rural and remote areas typically will have less ATMs so be sure to carry enough cash for purchases when away from the city.

Is Jordan LGBTQIA+ friendly?

As a Muslim country, Jordan’s culture is quite conservative, although not as conservative as some other Middle Eastern countries. Homosexuality has been decriminalised in Jordan since 1951, and while Jordanians who identify as having an LGBTQIA+ identity will not be criminalised, many people continue to hide their sexuality or identity from their families and there is still a deep social stigma. As long as LGBTQIA+ travellers display some discretion and respect for local culture, particularly when visiting places outside of the major cities and tourist areas, they will have no problem visiting Jordan.
