Herded like cattle, waiting for hours on end, some ok snorkelling - must be better tours out there

Wow where to start - This tour almost put me off doing anymore paid tours in Bali! This massive group of 104 tourists were herded around like cattle all day and felt like we spent a majority of the day just waiting around. We were picked up from our hotel in Legian at 630, taken to Sanur and then just waited - waited to go to the terminal for about an hour in an outdoor cafe with retching inducing toilets), then we went to the ferry terminal where yet again we waited. Then when we finally got on to the ferry only people who were prepared to buy beer were allowed to sit up on the top of the boat (whether that was a special scam by the staff I'm not sure). When we got to Nusa Penida again there was about another hour of waiting. Finally we got some snorkelling in, amongst at least 10 other boats and probably about 1000 people which probably averaged about 15-20 minutes at each of the 4 spots. One of which I will say was really beautiful and had some gorgeous fish and a turtle. Manta bay did not deliver any mantas although obviously the tour company can't help that. During the snorkelling my daughter jumped in to the water from the boat and the top of her snorkel popped off (cant see how that was any fault of her own) - anyway on arrival back to port we were told we had to pay an extortionate amount of money for that - which went down well! After a very average lunch, we spent the afternoon being driven around to some of the more famous sightseeing spots or I should say, instagram photo spots, on the island. Again thousands of people, being herded around, JUST so that they could take that instagram shot in the right place - quite painful unless you're a wannabe instagram influencer wanting to get "that shot". All in all I'd say don't waste your money unless you're into being herded around like cattle, are happy to wait around in really high heat for hours on end, don't mind being ripped off for shoddy equipment breakages that weren't your fault, or just want to get "that instagram shot" and have no interest in actually taking in the beauty of your surroundings! Prior to the trip we had been advised to go to a trip to Nusa Lembongan as it was apparently better but got talked in to this by a tour seller......wish we'd listened.....
