We purchased the Ellis James Designs’ Travel Jewelry Bag so our reviewer could put it to the test. Keep reading for our full product review.

If you like to accessorize on vacation, you’ve probably dealt with your fair share of lost earrings and tangled necklaces. While Pinterest has a few hacks for the latter, what you really need is a travel jewelry organizer that can safely store your rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. With various zippered pockets and detachable straps, Ellis James Designs’ Travel Jewelry Bag is a top contender. Here, we put it to the test evaluating its storage capacity, looks, performance, and competition.

Size and Capacity: Bigger than it looks

Despite its unassuming 9.7 x 6.1 x 2-inch build, this organizer can hold quite a bit of jewelry. Thoughtful design features that pull double duty—like a ring/bracelet holder that also keeps the earring panel in place—save space for additional accessories. In our testing, we were able to fit 16 pairs of earrings (including several pairs of long, dangly earrings) and more than 15 rings and bracelets. Provided you aren’t an overpacker , the average person should be able to pack at least a week’s worth of jewelry in this case.

If you run out of room on the ring holder or earring panel, there are three zippered pouches as well. The middle pocket and the earring panel can also be snapped in and out, freeing up extra room in the case’s center if needed. In addition to the earrings, bracelets, and rings, we were able to hold five to ten necklaces depending on length (more on that in the section below.) We also stuffed a few smaller beauty and wellness items, like lip gloss, bandages, and cotton swabs into the pockets, and found a surprising amount of useful space.

We were able to fit 16 pairs of earrings (including several pairs of long, dangly earrings) and more than 15 rings and bracelets.

The only real qualm we had with the bag was its inability to store chunkier, cuff-style bracelets. With both of the middle panels snapped out, we were able to hold one 2-inch wide bracelet, but it expanded the case to its maximum width. When we tried adding more jewelry, it caused the sides to bulge out. As the case is made from flexible fabric, that worked for short-term use, but it’s possible the bag could lose its form if consistently overpacked.

Performance: Securely held all kinds of jewelry

The most important question with any travel jewelry case is whether it safely and securely stores your delicate accessories, and the Ellis James Designs case passed this test with flying colors. To test the bag, we packed it with seven pairs of earrings, seven necklaces, and a few rings and bracelets, estimating that to be approximately the amount of jewelry we’d bring for a week of travel.

We first took the bag on a road trip, packing it into our luggage which was stored in the back of our vehicle. After a four-hour drive in each direction, the case hadn’t even shifted in the suitcase, and the jewelry was precisely as we packed it. We then tested the organizer by stowing it in a large purse and carrying it around during a day of running errands. Despite repeatedly tossing the purse into our car, shoving it into shopping carts, and giving the jewelry case plenty of room to bounce around the in the bag, all items once again stayed secure.

The final test wasn’t so much a real-life scenario, but was extremely informative: We packed the case full, shook it upside-down, martini style, and then tossed the case back and forth between two people for a few rounds. We repeated this three times and can happily report that this case performed exceptionally well. Only one earring came loose during our testing, and upon examination, we found that the metal back on the earring was quite loose in the first place. All other earrings, including teardrop-style, stayed put.

The inside of the case is off-white and made of durable, tear-proof material, so a rogue earring won’t rip the fabric.

The rings and bracelets on the strap shifted from one side of the case to the other and made rattling sounds while shaking, but none came loose, nor did they appear to knock anything else loose while moving. The only issue we ran into—and only when shaken martini-style—was that some of the necklaces with longer chains became tangled. The necklace section of the case has four clips on each side, which means longer necklaces need to be wrapped or twisted like a figure-8 around the clips. While this works for most necklaces, those that were too long to be pulled taught became mildly tangled during heavy shaking. Still, they only took a minute to untangle.

Appearance: Simple and elegant

We love the elegant style of this case. Made from quilted, water-resistant fabric, the bag is simple in design save for color-contrasted piping around the edges. The design is timeless enough to stay in style and should match most powder room color schemes. The inside of the case is off-white and made of durable, tear-proof material, so a rogue earring won’t rip the fabric. The zippers feel strong enough to stand up to heavy use and they didn't snag or pull when rapidly zipped back and forth. We detached and reattached the necklace straps hundreds of times and the snaps didn’t break or lose strength.

Price: Within most budgets

While you can certainly find cheaper jewelry organizers, the Ellis James case merits its roughly $30 price tag. Given its pleasing design, durability, and capacity, it’s a worthwhile one-time investment.

We detached and reattached the necklace straps hundreds of times and the snaps didn’t break or lose strength.

Competition: Depends on your capacity needs

We highly recommend the Ellis James case, but depending on your needs, it may have a few shortfalls. If you’re tight on space (traveling with just a backpack, perhaps ) you may want a smaller option, like the Case Elegance Vegan Leather Travel Jewelry Case . It won’t hold longer necklaces or any kind of chunky jewelry, but it rolls up, which makes it easy to fit in most small bags. If you’re planning on carrying a lot of jewelry or perhaps also want to use it to hold makeup , you may be better served by a hanging case like the Jaimie Jewelry Hanging Organizer . It’s divided into small, zippered pockets, and can easily hang on the back of a hotel room door or shower rod. It’ll hold more items and can be folded over and snapped shut, but even empty and closed, it measures 8.3 x 10.2 inches—making it larger than the Ellis James case.

The Ellis James Designs’ travel bag is a smart buy for most travelers. It’s elegantly and thoughtfully designed with storage space for dozens of rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Rigorous testing also proved it’s more than able to securely store all types of jewelry.

You’ve just said “I do” to your person—congrats!—and now it’s time to celebrate your nuptials with the trip of a lifetime, whether it’s a South African safari or a balmy beach getaway . “The honeymoon symbolizes a new beginning of life together filled with intimacy, adventure, and new experiences,” travel expert Dr. Terika L. Haynes says. “This can serve as a catalyst to a lifetime of romance.”

While honeymoons are filled with ample rest and relaxation, all of the prep work you need to do before embarking on your vacation probably feels daunting—especially packing. That’s why we pulled together the perfect packing list for a one-week excursion. We also asked travel experts for their best-kept secrets to pack your suitcase in a more organized manner.

Ahead, everything you need to pack for your honeymoon, plus packing tips to keep in mind.

Meet the Expert

  • Dr. Terika L. Haynes is the CEO and founder of Dynamite Travel , a luxury travel and media consultancy. She has 15 years of experience in the travel industry.
  • Jessie Ladipo is the owner and chief travel designer for Trips to Cherish , a luxury travel boutique. She’s been working in the travel sector for 12 years.

Essentials You Can’t Forget

From credit cards to passports, this is everything you must bring with you on your honeymoon .

Always make two copies of each important document in case you lose one of the papers or one of your electronic devices. Keep one on hand, whether it’s in your carry-on or purse, and one in your suitcase.

  • Driver’s license or a form of identification
  • Passport (if you’re heading abroad)
  • Converter or adapter (if your trip is out of the country)
  • Chargers (for your laptop, phone, camera)
  • Luggage tags
  • Credit cards
  • Cash (for tipping)
  • 2 paper copies of important documents: passport, ID, credit cards, travel itinerary, health insurance, travel insurance, and prescriptions
  • Paper and electronic copies of your hotel booking confirmation
  • Paper and electronic copies of phone numbers of your doctor, sitter, credit card, and health insurance

What to Pack in Your Carry-On

Since you’ll have your carry-on on hand while traveling, it’s the best place to store all of your essentials, especially if your luggage gets lost. For anything not on this list, you can pack it in your checked luggage.

  • Form of identification (driver’s license and passport if needed)
  • Credit cards (Remember to tell your bank about your travel plans.)
  • Cash (or the native currency)
  • 1 paper copy of all important documents (see above)
  • Prescription medications
  • Basic toiletries: face wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant
  • A change of clothes (in case your luggage gets lost)
  • Cell phone and charger (and an adapter if you’re leaving the country)
  • Entertainment: e-reader, books, magazines, and/or a deck of cards
  • Travel pillows and sleep masks

Toiletries to Bring

Here is a list of all the toiletries you’ll need to bring with you. Although you’ll want to add a few essentials to your carry-on, pack the rest of your toiletries in a dopp kit and place it in your larger suitcase.

  • Medications: prescription medication in original packaging, pain relievers, antacids, antihistamine
  • Shower essentials: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, razors, shaving cream
  • Hair care items: hair brush, hair ties, hairstyling tools, hairstyling products
  • Skincare products : face wash, face moisturizer, body lotion
  • Oral hygiene items: toothbrush, toothpaste, floss
  • Deodorant
  • Makeup and makeup remover
  • Perfume or cologne
  • Cotton swabs
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Birth control and condoms
  • Hand sanitizer

Clothing to Pack

Below are garments to pack on your trip for you and your partner, plus the estimated number of each item you’ll need for a week-long stay. Since the climate affects what outfits you’ll wear, add more lightweight clothing for warm destinations, heavier coats for chilly temperatures, and athletic gear for adventure trips.

  • Bottoms for her: 1 pair of jeans, 1 pair of leggings, 1 skirt, 1 sundress, 2 pairs of shorts
  • Bottoms for him: 1 pair of jeans, 1 pair of khakis, 1 pair of dress pants, 2 pairs of shorts
  • Tops for her: 4 casual shirts
  • Tops for him: 4 T-shirts, 1 or 2 short-sleeve button-downs, 1 or 2 long-sleeve button-downs
  • Jackets for her: 1 light jacket or cardigan
  • Jackets for him: 1 sports jacket
  • Shoes: 1 pair of sneakers, 1 pair of walking shoes, 1 pair of evening shoes
  • 8 pairs of underwear
  • 2-3 pairs of socks
  • Bras: strapless bras, sports bras, regular padded bras
  • Accessories: scarves, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, purses, clutches, hats, sunglasses, ties
  • Workout attire

Miscellaneous Items to Have

Although we’ve mostly covered everything you’ll need for your trip in the above sections, there are a few miscellaneous items you should throw into your suitcase:

  • Plastic bags (for wet or dirty clothes)
  • Stain remover pen
  • Umbrella or rain gear
  • Small backpack or fanny pack for day excursions
  • Tote bag for the beach or pool

Location-Specific Items to Grab

Whether you’re headed to a tropical island or a snowy mountain , you’ll need certain items based on the weather and the activities you’ll be doing. Consider bringing the below items with you to make your stay more enjoyable.

  • Beach, resorts, or cruises: bathing suits, cover-ups, beach towels, sunscreen, bug spray, aloe, watersports attire
  • Safari or adventure trips : binoculars, hiking shoes, flashlight, extra socks and underwear, athletic pants
  • Cold weather or ski vacations : heavy jackets, sweaters, mittens or gloves, hats or earmuffs, waterproof snow pants, long underwear, scarves, waterproof socks, boots, ski equipment, hand warmers

Items to Leave at Home

You might be tempted to fill your suitcase with all of your favorite things, but there are a few valuables or unnecessary items to keep at home.

  • Expensive jewelry (including your engagement ring)
  • Sentimental items
  • Work laptops
  • Full-size toiletries
  • Too many clothing options

Tips to Pack More Effectively

Now that you have a list of every single item you need to pack with you on your honeymoon, here are a few expert-approved tips to pack your suitcase and carry-on in a more organized and effective way.

Do Your Research

Before you start throwing objects into your suitcase, set aside some time to research the destination and the hotel or resort you’ll be staying at. Haynes says doing this will help you identify any specific dress codes you’ll need to follow and familiarize yourself with the types of activities the place offers, so you’ll get a better idea of the attire you’ll need to wear. For instance, if the resort has a fancy dining room for dinner, you’ll want to grab a nice dress or sport coat. If your hotel is by the ocean with opportunities to surf and sail, you’ll want to pack multiple bathing suits.

Book Activities Ahead of Time

After you have a general idea of the excursions, activities, and restaurants that are available, plan a loose itinerary in advance. Not only will you avoid the stress of making plans at the last minute, but you’ll also have a more seamless time packing for your trip. By booking a few dinner reservations in town, a tour of the Vatican, or a surfing lesson, you’ll know exactly how to dress, Haynes notes.

Pack Before the Wedding

Jessie Ladipo of Trips to Cherish recommends packing your bag before you swap vows, especially if you’re leaving town the following day. Since you won’t be in a mad rush to fill your suitcase, you’ll be more likely to remember everything you’ll need. “Packing before also gives you a couple of extra days to add anything you forgot,” she mentions.

Maximize Your Space

You might think you’re saving time by throwing your clothes and toiletries into your suitcase, but you’ll have more trouble finding what you need once you’ve reached your destination. For a more organized method of packing that uses every inch of space, Haynes advises purchasing packing cubes “to compress your items and take advantage of all available space in their luggage.” She also encourages couples to add their outfits to vacuum bags, so you can pack more with less. According to Ladipo, another way to fit more into your suitcase is by rolling your clothes rather than folding them. Not to mention, this technique will avoid unwanted wrinkles.

Avoid Overpacking

Since your honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime vacation, you probably want to bring all of your favorite outfits and items. But before you know it, your suitcase has exceeded the maximum weight. To avoid overpacking, Ladipo suggests noting how you will use every piece you plop into your suitcase and whether or not it’s practical to bring. “Before you pack that fancy cocktail dress and Jimmy Choos, please stop and think about why you are taking it,” she advises. “Is there a specific occasion? Is it comfortable? Can you walk long distances in those shoes? When in doubt, leave it at home.”

If there's one jet-setting couple that you always turn to when brainstorming your next vacation, this gift guide is for you. We've hand-picked the best gifts for couples who travel, whether you're shopping for their anniversary, a  wedding gift , or something to surprise the newlyweds just because. But you can still celebrate your favorite travel lovers and their wanderlust with these thoughtful (and practical) gifts they'll use all the time. From luggage tags and passport holders to nomadic journals and books, here are the best travel gifts for couples.

Cute Matching Luggage Tags

If they usually book extended trips that require them to check their luggage, this gift idea will be much appreciated. Stylish Carry-On Suitcase

Hopping flights, trains, and buses will inevitably do a number on their luggage. Scratches and damages are part of the game, which is the perfect reason to surprise them with a brand-new carry-on. This hard suitcase features 360-degree spinnable wheels and comes in nine colors, including navy, olive, and seafoam.

Away Travel The Carry-On, from $275, Away Travel

An Action-Worthy Camera

One of the best things about traveling isn’t just the experience itself, but also the stories we get to tell once we return home. Your traveling couple friends love raving about their scuba diving adventure in Hawaii or how they hiked Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa. But what’s better than telling? Showing  and  telling, of course! A GoPro camera is the perfect gift idea for thrill-seekers. It’s waterproof, stores thousands of videos and photos, and it even allows your pals to livestream their adventures.

GoPro  HERO10 digital camcorder, $288, Walmart

World Map Decor

When you walk into their home, it’s full of knick-knacks and souvenirs they’ve collected from every corner of the globe. This clever scratch-off world map is another way for them to remember some of their favorite trips and past itineraries. As they collect one passport stamp after another, they can return home and check the country off their bucket list (or scratch it off the map, in this case).

Uncommon Goods scratch map, from $26, Uncommon Goods

A Cozy Travel Hammock

There’s nothing quite as dreamy as snuggling up to your one-and-only, especially if you're under the tapestry of stars somewhere in the mountains or waking up with the sun on a tropical beach. This two-person hammock is a thoughtful gift for couples who travel, since it's something they can use together. The hammock comes in seven different colors and is made of high-strength nylon, which holds up to 400 pounds. It packs down to the size of a grapefruit, so it's easy for them to bring along almost anywhere.

ENO  DoubleNest print hammock, $85, DICK's Sporting Goods

Practical Packing Cubes

Sure, packing cubes might not be the most exciting gift ever. But for frequent fliers who hop from one hotel to another, they're absolutely necessary to prevent an unorganized, messy suitcase. Luckily, unpacking and re-packing is a little more fun with these design-forward options from CALPAK. We love the floral print, but there are a range of colors you can choose from based on their personal style.

CALPAK packing cubes set, $68, CALPAK

Portable Chargers

When you cross an ocean (or two!), jet lag is a real struggle. You’re adjusting to a new timezone, making it through airport customs, finding your luggage, and navigating to your lodging. One thing that your travel-loving friends won't want to deal with is finding a place to charge their phones. This portable charger is something they'll use all the time. It charges two devices at once and stores hours of battery power to keep them topped up for days.

Anker PowerCore Select 20,000 power bank, $40, Walmart

Soft Eye Masks

Sleep is one of the hardest parts about constant travel—attempting to catch some z's on a red-eye or trying to fall asleep in a new place doesn't always go to plan. Make their R&R a little more comfortable by surprising your pals with luxury silk eye masks. This buttery-soft style comes in nine colors and blocks out light to ensure maximum rest.

Brooklinen mulberry silk eye mask, $35, Brooklinen

A Headphone Splitter

Enduring red-eye flights is a necessary evil when it comes to visiting lands far and wide. Luckily, snuggling up to your travel partner and tuning into a movie can help pass the time. A headphone splitter helps them connect to one device or airplane screen with two sets of headphones.

CuWire headphone splitter, $6, Walmart

Guide Book to National Parks

Do your traveling friends have plans to skip their usual flights for an  RV road trip instead ? The United States has so many national parks to explore, and this book from National Geographic is an essential visitor's guide. For each park, it outlines the best season to visit, essential details to know ahead of the trip, and more valuable insight. Plus, it doubles as a gorgeous coffee table book.

National Geographic Atlas of the National Parks , $65, Barnes & Noble

A Travel Backpack

For shorter jaunts, daytime hikes, and quick getaways, a travel backpack is a great travel gift. Seasoned travelers covet this highly-rated backpack from Everlane, and for good reason: Its sleek design and beautiful, muted colors are met with smart interior organization and other features (like a special strap that attaches to rolling luggage) that make it an essential part of journeying.

Everlane  The ReNew transit backpack, $95, Everlane

Weatherproof Hiking Boots

Get your loved ones ready for their next adventure in the great outdoors with the help of brand-new hiking boots. These lightweight boots make a perfect gift for couples who travel, since they feature a waterproof leather exterior and comfort foam padding to endure whatever Mother Nature has to offer.

Columbia  women's Newton Ridge Plus waterproof amped hiking boot, $100, Zappos.com

A Multi-Year Travel Journal

Instagram and Facebook are cool ways to share your travels with others, but keeping some experiences to yourself is just as memorable. We love this hardcover five-year journal set that makes it easy for your jet-setting loved ones to record how their life and travels change over time. From their romantic destination during their honeymoon, to the moment that they eventually welcome their littlest traveler, it's a keepsake they’ll treasure for generations to come.

Rifle Paper Co. five year keepsake journal set, $60, Rifle Paper Co.

Matching Mugs

Believe it or not, sometimes the traveling couple  likes to stay home ! When they're in between trips, this set of handmade matching mugs is a great gift they can use while enjoying their morning coffee (brewed from beans they hand-picked in Colombia, perhaps?).

Clay by Dannah  white ceramic mugs, $79 for a set, Etsy

An Easy-to-Pack Device

As every traveler knows, some flights have Wi-Fi, others don’t—some airlines have screens at every seat for entertainment, and many don’t. An ultra-slim laptop is an excellent gift for couples who travel to ensure they always have a way to stay connected and entertained on-the-fly (no pun intended). This one features a touch screen, eight hours of battery life, and Bluetooth capabilities.

Gateway 11.6" ultra slim notebook, $199, Walmart

Weekend Getaway Inspiration

Their next trip doesn't have to be a journey to the other side of the world in order to be memorable. In fact, traveling couples have mastered the art of the long romantic weekend getaway, but sometimes, they could use a little inspiration on where in the world to go. This gorgeous hardcover book has 1,000 (yep, 1,000!) weekend trip ideas they can do in under 72 hours. Think: sailing in the Bahamas, camping with horses in Maryland, driving through Italy’s chocolate valley, going ice skating in Ottawa, and more.

National Geographic 1,000 Perfect Weekends: Great Getaways Around the Globe , $40, Barnes & Noble

Gourmet Coffee Sampler

The best mornings start with a jolt of caffeine, especially when you’re fighting jet lag and exhaustion. Luckily, coffee lovers have the opportunity to try a variety of beans and drinks from across the world when they aren't on the go. This gift box includes 16 coffees in whole-bean or freshly ground varieties, plus tasting notes and brewing tips.

Bean Box world coffee box, $94, Bean Box

A Cozy Travel Blanket

The issue with most travel blankets is that they’re not cozy. And when you’re sleeping somewhere new or shivering in a tent while camping, you want the indulgence of your comforter at home. Give your favorite travel-loving couple the feel of their own bed with this down-fill travel blanket that mimics a duvet. It's easy to pack (it rolls up into its own case) yet oversized when unraveled, making it a must-have for their next adventure.

A Neck Pillow For Flights

It may not seem like the most unique gift ever, but trust us, their aches and pains will thank you. A neck pillow is a traveler’s best pal for flights, train rides, and even bumpy bus excursions. We love how this one wraps fully around to provide optimal support. Might we suggest buying two so you won’t cause a lover’s spat?

A travel photography session.

When you’re traveling as a couple, it can be difficult to get a photo of just the two of you. Often, couples will resort to selfies, self-timer shots, or they’ll work up the courage to ask a nice passerby to capture the moment for them. The downside? These images aren’t always frame-worthy quality. An easy way to help them remember their experience is a gift card for Flytographer, where they can book a professional photography session with a local. Ready, set, smile!

Smart Ways to Use Wedding Savings for a Fantastic Honeymoon

A ccording to wedding planning site Zola, the average cost of a U.S. wedding in 2024 is $33,000. That’s a lot more than my wife and I spent on our wedding! Of course, we got married…a few years ago. Not going to tell you how many years. Ahem. My personal life is none of your business!

But the point is: Along with higher prices of car insurance and pretty much everything else, weddings have gotten really expensive. There’s nothing wrong with throwing a big bash to celebrate your big day with your family and friends! But be careful not to spend so much on your wedding that you rack up a bunch of credit card debt.

Alert: highest cash back card we’ve seen now has 0% intro APR for 15 months. Learn more here.

Saving money on your wedding can help you have a happier honeymoon and a stronger foundation for your future personal finances as a married couple.

Let’s look at a few ways to use extra wedding savings (or those sweet, sweet cash wedding gifts) to have an affordable, memorable honeymoon.

More : Our picks for the best credit cards

1. Get a travel rewards credit card or airline credit card

If you want to take a faraway vacation for your honeymoon, you might want to plan ahead and apply for a travel rewards credit card or airline credit card. The best airline credit cards and other rewards cards have surprisingly generous welcome offers with tens of thousands of extra frequent flyer miles or reward points. Just by switching your everyday spending to go through a new credit card, you can quickly earn enough points or miles to get a free plane ticket or other great travel perks.

On a recent trip to Europe, I was chatting with a young American married couple on the train, and they told me that they use a travel rewards card for everything they buy in everyday life -- groceries, restaurants, streaming services, subscriptions, and more. By spending thousands of dollars a month on a rewards credit card, they can get free flights and great travel benefits that make international travel more affordable.

The lesson: Be like that couple! As a married couple, it’s easy to add your spouse to your travel rewards credit card as an authorized user . It’s like a joint checking account for travel rewards. Having your spouse as an authorized user on your rewards card lets you work as a team to earn free travel faster.

2. Delay your honeymoon for a few months until off-peak season

Autumn is the most popular season for weddings, according to a survey from The Knot. As of 2022, 43% of weddings happened during September-November. Summer is close behind; 28% of weddings occurred during June-August. Depending on when you get married, honeymoon travel might also be in peak season.

Waiting a few months after your wedding gives you more time to use Google Flights and other search tools to find affordable travel deals. This can also give you time to recover from the financial expenses of the big day. Spend a few months after the wedding replenishing your savings account, and then you can get ready for a big honeymoon trip.

The lesson: Just as there are peak seasons for wedding venues, honeymoon travel might also be more expensive right around your wedding day. Planning your honeymoon for a different time of year, even six months or later beyond your wedding date, can help you save money -- and it gives you more time to earn credit card points for discount air travel!

3. Choose affordable honeymoon destinations

Your honeymoon doesn’t have to happen at an expensive beach resort during the highest-priced days of peak tourist season. Think ahead about what kind of experience you want to have as a couple. What places are meaningful to you? How can you make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime moment together?

You could go to a nearby city within driving distance, take a winter vacation honeymoon in a cold-weather climate, or have a honeymoon in a lower-cost small town or rural destination. Instead of going to the highest-priced big cities and the in-demand resorts, sometimes the underrated places are the most affordable -- and you’ll have a great time and meet friendly people who are excited to have you!

The lesson: Are you extra flexible on your honeymoon dates and destination? Try Google Flights, Kayak.com and SkyScanner to search for affordable flights anywhere in the world. You might be surprised at how cheap the airfares can be, and you can explore a new city or country that you might never have visited before.

Bottom line: Your wedding day shouldn’t empty your bank account . Try to save money on your wedding so you can invest in your new marriage by having a happy honeymoon. If you plan ahead and have flexible dates, you can find surprisingly affordable honeymoon destinations all over the world. Travel rewards credit cards can also be a great solution for married couples to support each other in earning frequent flyer miles, free airfares, and more.

Low-cost airline Breeze Airways is introducing its first-ever branded credit card card with flight perks and is also adding five new cities to its network this fall in its continued efforts to expand just three years after its founding.

The Breeze Easy Visa Signature card, will have an $89 annual fee and come with a host of benefits, including up to 10x BreezePoints for Breeze purchases and priority boarding, the carrier shared with Travel + Leisure . The card will also include complimentary inflight Wi-Fi on the airline’s Airbus fleet (a bonus since Breeze recently committed to using an all-Airbus A220 fleet for its scheduled service by the end of 2024).

The card, which is co-branded with Barclays US Consumer Bank, includes 50,000 BreezePoints as an introductory sign-up bonus after spending $2,000 in the first 90 days.

“Combined with Barclays’ trusted track record with major travel brands, I’m confident the Breeze Easy Visa will be THE airline card of choice for Breeze guests and frequent travelers,” David Neeleman, the founder and CEO of Breeze Airways, said in a statement shared with T+L.

In addition to the new card, the rapidly expanding airline will add flights to five new cities: Bangor, Maine, Dallas, Texas, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Lansing, Michigan, and Pensacola, Florida. Each of these new routes will launch in October.

“We’re thrilled to announce five more cities to our expanding network as we continue to add great destinations and also connect the dots between Breeze’s existing cities,”  Breeze Airways’ President Tom Doxey said in a statement shared with T+L. “With Breeze’s added convenience and affordability, our business model continues to see success in cities across the country.”

From Bangor, travelers will be able to fly to Orlando, Tampa, and Fort Myers in Florida; fly to Provo/Salt Lake City from Dallas; fly to Orlando from Lancaster; fly to both Orlando and Fort Myers from Lansing; and fly to Tampa from Pensacola.

Beyond the new cities, Breeze — which has plans to add international flights in the near future — will also add several new routes from nine of the cities it already serves, including an October flight from Norfolk, Virginia, to Phoenix. With the new routes, the airline, which was first created in 2021 by former JetBlue founder and current Breeze CEO Neeleman , will fly to a total of 56 different cities across 29 states.

To celebrate the new routes, Breeze is offering certain flights starting at just $49 each way when travelers book by 11:59 p.m. ET on April 1 and travel by Jan. 7, 2025.

Urgent warning for British red passport holders at risk of post-Brexit travel rules

On a typical day, 200 outbound travellers are prevented from departing because of eu rules on issue and expiry dates, article bookmarked.

An estimated 32 million British passport holders could potentially fall foul of post-Brexit rules on validity for travel to the European Union, it has emerged.

In the Brexit deal, the UK negotiated for British travellers to become “third-country nationals” – in line with citizens from dozens of other countries such as Venezuela and Samoa.

European Union nations do not allow such travellers to enter on a passport issued over 10 years ago. The same applies in the wider Schengen Area, including Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. UK visitors to Ireland are not subject to the restriction.

The Passport Office’s pre-Brexit policy was to issue British travel documents valid for up to 10 years and nine months, taking account of the unspent time on a previous passport. That posed no problem while the UK was a member of the EU, but since the Brexit agreement took effect hundreds of thousands of people are believed to have lost their holidays because of inadvertently breaching the rules.

Airport sources contacted by The Independent indicate that, on a typical day, 200 outbound travellers are prevented from departing because of EU rules on issue and expiry dates. The rejection typically happens at check in or the departure gate.

The BBC cited the case of Nathan Barnes, a 31-year-old paramedic from Norwich, who was refused boarding on a flight to France.

He was on his way to Limoges with his fiancé to visit family. Despite checking in for the flight online, he was stopped at the departure gate.

“My passport had been issued more than 10 years previously,” he said. “They were very matter of fact about it, they just said ‘sorry you can’t board, off you pop’.”

“I was gutted, surprised really. We had checked in online and thought it was fine,” he added.

The BBC’s Marc Ashdown has analysed Home Office figures on passports issued up to September 2018 that suggest 32 million people could potentially fall foul of EU rules.

The Schengen Area also requires UK travellers to have at least three months remaining before the expiry date on their passport on the day of departure from the European zone.

The Independent has asked all the major airlines if they could help identify potential problems earlier by requesting passport data and assessing validity. Most say that the issue is too complex, but Tui is working on a solution.

If a passenger is correctly denied boarding, travel insurance will not pay out to cover consequent losses.

The EU and wider Schengen Area are the only locations with conditions about the issue date of your passport. Many other countries, such as the US, Canada and Australia, allow British passport holders to travel up to and including the expiry date of your passport – though some nations demand at least six months is remaining .

There is no problem travelling to Europe with a passport issued for over 10 years, so long as it is under 10 years old on the date of departure to the EU and will have three months remaining on the date of return.

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

7-day Moscow itinerary

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

exploring Moscow

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Moscow sights

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

top things to do in Moscow

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

one week Moscow itinerary

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

12 Stunning National Parks and Regional Parks In France

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!

I know very little about Moscow or Russia for the\at matter. I do know I would have to see the Red Square and all of its exquisite architectural masterpieces. Also the CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE SAVIOUR. Thanks for shedding some light on visiting Moscow.

Thanks for swinging by! The Red Square is a great starting point, but there way too many places and things to discover aside from it!
