Maynard Keenan of Tool

Tool are hitting the road this fall. The prog rockers announced the dates for a North American tour on Tuesday morning (June 6), including their first Canadian shows since 2019. The fall outing will compliment the band’s previously announced summer festival gigs with six weeks of new non-fest shows slated to kick off on Oct. 3 in Loveland, CO at the Budweiser Event Center.

Tool’s Maynard James Keenan Says Drag Outfit Had Nothing to Do With Florida Law: ‘I’m Not a…

Trending on billboard.

Singer Maynard James Keenan made news last month when he wore what appeared to be drag during a set at Daytona Beach’s Welcome to Rockville Festival, that seemed at first to be a reaction to the series of  controversial bills  signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis recently that ban minors from attending  drag  shows. But the vocalist who often wears women’s clothes and bizarre costumes on stage later said the choice was personal, not political.

“I’ve been cross-dressing since long before these clickbait-junkie dupes were out of diapers,” he told The Messenger . “And that’s really all there is to it. I’m not a political fella — had nothing to do with Florida.”

Tool Announce 2023 North American Tour Dates

Tool have announced a 2023 North American tour that's set to kick off this fall.

The run begins with a Sept. 22 appearance at the Louder Than Life Festival and after that, it's back out on the road from Oct. 3 through Nov. 21 as the band makes stops in the U.S. and Canada with additional festival stops (Aftershock, Power Trip) in the mix as well.

See all of the upcoming dates below and look for non-festival tickets to go on sale on June 9 at 10AM local time. Pre-sale tickets, meanwhile, will be offered to the Tool Army starting June 8 at 10AM local time. Head here for additional Tool Army information.

In late February, Adam Jones shared a video on his Instagram story rehearsing the  10,000 Days  track "Rosetta Stoned" with Justin Chancellor and Danny Carey. The band's fans were freaked out on Reddit over the clip because the song hasn't been played much at all over the last decade. They performed it a handful of times in 2018, and prior to that, it hadn't been part of their setlist since 2009, so perhaps we'll see the rockers bring it back around during this upcoming run.

Tool Announce Fall 2023 North American Tour Dates

By Matthew Strauss

Tool

Tool have announced a fall tour of North America. Following a performance Louisville’s Louder Than Life in September, the band will play arena shows in October and November. The trek also includes a performance at Indio’s Power Trip . Find Tool’s tour dates below.

Earlier this year, Tool headlined Florida’s Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio. The band also toured North America last year, but did not perform in Canada. On their upcoming tour, Tool will play Canadian shows for the first time since 2019 .

At Welcome to Rockville, Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan also performed with another one of his bands, Puscifer. He made headlines by performing in a blonde wig, red lipstick, and prosthetic breasts, which many saw as a defiant act against Florida’s restrictive laws against drag shows. Keenan, however, said his choice of attire “had nothing to do with Florida.” The singer told The Messenger , “I’ve been cross-dressing since long before these clickbait-junkie dupes were out of diapers.” He added, “It’s pretty crazy the technology and the prosthetics nowadays, how they’ve come along, and I just was considering bringing the look back.”

Tool Reveals 2023 North American Tour

by Tina Benitez-Eves November 24, 2023, 3:47 am

Tool has revealed a fall tour in North America that will run nearly two months and include the band’s first dates in Canada since 2019. Kicking off at the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, Kentucky on Sept. 22, the tour will continue throughout the U.S. and Canada before wrapping up with two nights in Toronto on Nov. 20 and 21.

Videos by American Songwriter

In addition to the band’s regular dates, they’ll be performing at two more festivals, including the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, California on Oct. 6 and Power Trip in Indio, California, where they’ll be joined by AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden, and Ozzy Osbourne, on Oct. 8.

The band is touring in support of its 2019 album,  Fear Inoculum , which marked its first release in 13 years since 10,000 Days .

In May, Tool performed at the Welcome to Rockville Festival in Dayton, Florida, where singer Maynard Jame Keenan performed in drag, though he insisted it had nothing to do with several new laws in Florida targeting the trans, drag, and LGBTQ communities.

“I’ve been cross-dressing since long before these clickbait-junkie dupes were out of diapers,” said Keenan . Keenan first introduced the prosthetic breasts in 1997 and has donned a plethora of outfits on stage over the decades, including body paint, Lucha-Libre wrestling garb, riot police gear, and more.

“It’s pretty crazy the technology and the prosthetics nowadays, how they’ve come along, and I just was considering bringing the look back,” he added. “And that’s really all there is to it. I’m not a political fella — had nothing to do with Florida.”

In a recent interview, Keenan also talked about playing some of Tool’s older, faster songs live now.

“So I think my writing has changed over the years, and I can do some of those songs,” said Keenan . “I can’t do a whole set of those songs. I can pepper them in, so I can still do some of those things… If you’re actually sitting down and thinking about it, you can’t expect some of those dudes, [from] back in the day, to do the thing they did 30 years ago, 40 years ago. You can’t expect that out of that body. Your body doesn’t do those things forever.”

Keenan added, “That is an absolute expiration date. Your body is not going to allow you to perform the way you used to perform at certain ages. You can apply that to pretty much anybody.”

Since the 2019 release of TOOL’s critically-acclaimed album,  Fear Inoculum , the band has won a GRAMMY Award® (Best Metal Performance for “7empest”), completed sold-out tours of both the U.S. and Europe, and headlined Bonnaroo, Welcome to Rockville and the Sonic Temple Arts & Music Festival. TOOL marked the 30th anniversary of the Opiate EP with the 2022 release of “ Opiate 2 ,” a re-imagining of the EP’s title track, released in tandem with a breathtaking, 10-minute short film crafted by Adam Jones and visual artist Dominic Hailstone (“Alien: Covenant”, “The Eel”).

Reviews from TOOL’s sold-out 2022 tours praised the four-piece, with  Loudwire  dubbing the performances as “a masterclass of immersion, sound and stage design, musicianship… and levels of ungodly tightness.” The  Austin Chronicle  described the incomparable live experience as an “unbridled exchange of catharsis between performers and fans.” More recently,  Revolver , covering Welcome to Rockville 2023, said “TOOL delivered a stunning… set featuring classic fan favorites, newer  Fear Inoculum  standouts and choice deeper cuts … the striking visuals also included a psychedelic laser and projections show bar none.”

From Google Bard: “Tool is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1990. The band consists of vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, bassist Justin Chancellor, and drummer Danny Carey. They are known for their heavy, experimental sound, which has been described as a combination of progressive metal, alternative metal, and art rock.

Tool’s music is characterized by its complex time signatures, extended instrumental passages, and introspective lyrics. The band’s sound has been influenced by a wide range of artists, including King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd.

Tool has released four studio albums, all of which have been critically acclaimed and commercially successful. Their debut album, Undertow, was released in 1993 and featured the hit singles “Sober” and “Prison Sex”. Their second album, Ænima, was released in 1996 and featured the hit singles “Stinkfist” and “H.

Tool’s third album, Lateralus, was released in 2001 and was their most successful album to date. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and featured the hit singles “The Grudge” and “Parabola”. Their fourth album, 10,000 Days, was released in 2006 and featured the hit singles “Vicarious” and “The Pot”.

Tool has won four Grammy Awards, including Best Metal Performance for “Schism” in 2002. The band has also been nominated for nine other Grammy Awards. They have sold over 13 million albums in the United States alone.

Tool is known for their elaborate live shows, which often feature elaborate visuals and stage props. The band has toured extensively throughout their career, and their live shows are often considered to be among the best in the world.

Tool is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed rock bands of the past 25 years. Their unique sound and introspective lyrics have made them a favorite among fans of progressive metal and alternative rock. The band is still active and touring, and they continue to release new music.”

Tool Announce Fall 2023 North American Tour

Tool have announced a Fall 2023 North American tour that will keep them on the road for nearly two months. The headlining shows come in addition to three previously announced festival appearances.

Following a set at the Louder Than Life festival on September 22nd, Tool will properly kick off the outing on October 3rd in Loveland, Colorado. Their next two stops will take them to the Aftershock and Power Trip festivals, respectively, before a continuous run of headlining shows extends through a two-night stand in Toronto on November 20th and 21st.

Tickets for the tour are available via  StubHub , where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.

Tool are touring in support of their 2019 album, Fear Inoculum , which marked the band’s first studio LP in 13 years. Recently, they played sets at the Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple festivals. The Rockville set made headlines as singer Maynard James Keenan performed in drag , apparently challenging Florida’s new anti-drag law. However, the frontman later explained his outfit had nothing to do with the Florida law , which he condemned nonetheless.

The new tour announcement falls in line with a tease made a few months ago by drummer Danny Carey, who said at the time, “We have a big tour coming in the fall.”

See Tool’s tour dates below, followed by our photo gallery of Tool’s recent set at the 2023 Welcome to Rockville festival. Learn how to get your tickets here .

TOOL marked the 30th anniversary of the Opiate EP with the 2022 release of “Opiate2,” a re-imagining of the EP’s title track, released in tandem with a breathtaking 10-minute short film crafted by Adam Jones and visual artist Dominic Hailstone (“Alien: Covenant”, “The Eel”).

Reviews from TOOL’s sold-out 2022 tours praised the four-piece, with Loudwire dubbing the performances as “a masterclass of immersion, sound and stage design, musicianship… and levels of ungodly tightness.” The Austin Chronicle described the incomparable live experience as an “unbridled exchange of catharsis between performers and fans.” Revolver, covering the Welcome to Rockville 2023, said “TOOL delivered a stunning… set featuring classic fan favorites, newer Fear Inoculum standouts and choice deeper cuts … the striking visuals also included a psychedelic laser and projections show bar none.”

Lineup subject to change without notice.

TOOL 2023 Tour Dates – Full Schedule of TOOL Shows

According to Maynard James Keenan, Tool picks their openers like this:

“No point in choosing something similar to us. The approach or criteria I usually take when it’s my turn to choose an opener is Diversity. No point in choosing something similar to us. Most are only here for the headliner, anyway. But for those with open hearts and minds, I choose something I feel is compelling in its own way.

@blonderedheadofficial is my pick for this upcoming run. Incredible melodies, complex & subtle rhythms, and nontraditional arrangements.

But Nothing like @Toolmusic. And Not meant to be. Obviously, if it’s not your thing, don’t worry. What you came to hear will soon follow. But if any of what you hear resonates, @blonderedheadofficial have a deep catalog for you to get lost in for years to come.”

TOOL is a Los Angeles, California-based American prog-metal and rock band. They formed in 1990. Here are the Tool members: vocalist Maynard James Keenan , guitarist Adam Jones , and drummer Danny Carey . Justin Chancellor has been the band’s bassist since 1995, succeeding original bassist Paul D’Amour. TOOL genre is also unique in metal and rock music history.

TOOL has so far released five studio albums, one box set, two extended plays, four video albums, fifteen singles, and eight music videos — also; the TOOL band is planning to release new records in 2023 too.

Usually, a TOOL show and concert lasts for 2 hours and 45 minutes on average.

Who is opening for TOOL on their next 2023 tour?

Opening acts will be changing for each TOOL  concert.

Maynard also talked about the when is the release date of TOOL’s new album:

“The guys in Tool, just take longer to process information and get it together and present me something that I can start building on. I have made the mistake in the past of trying to build on something that wasn’t ready yet. And then all the work I put into building on the thing, they change the foundation. If I’m [Maynard James Keenan] trying to decorate the house and then you move where the doors are or the windows or add a floor, I gotta start over, as an interior decorator. I have to wait for them to do it, so there’s time. I have time to do all these other things in between because I can and I should.

One could argue a little bit of discipline and a little prodding, a little cattle prod or a taser would help move these guys along a little faster, but that’s their process, you just have to kind of respect it.

It’s frustrating. I’m sure they’re frustrated with me because they hand it to me and I’m like, ‘It’s done.’ like, ‘You didn’t take any time with it?’ Yes, it took 50 years for this reaction to these things. I’ve been preparing for decades to hear these things and be able to react honestly, and I riff on them – on all the songs, on all the projects.”

Bruce Springsteen is relaunching his postponed tour in Phoenix. Here's what to expect

tool tour opener 2023

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band return to active duty Tuesday, March 19, in downtown Phoenix with the relaunch of their world tour at Footprint Center.

Hailed in the Washington Post as "a masterclass in the uplifting power of rock-and-roll," the tour was cut short in September on the advice of Springsteen’s doctors, who were treating him for peptic ulcer disease, a potentially serious gastrointestinal condition.

Springsteen issued a statement saying, “Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken to have to postpone these shows. ... We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our US shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon.”

Here's our complete guide to the Bruce Springsteen concert in Phoenix .

Little Steven: 'We had no idea how much pain he was in'

In an early November interview with USA Today at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, E Street Band guitarist Little Steven Van Zandt said, "I got to tell you the truth, we had no idea how much pain he was in. We were just as surprised as everyone else to learn the extent of his illness. It was remarkable when we found out that he had been in pain for five shows at least. He is just a tough guy.”

Springsteen announced that he was symptom-free on the Nov. 20 episode of his E Street Radio show “From My Home to Yours.”

Since then, he’s performed at the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony, the 17th annual Stand Up for Heroes benefit and the New Jersey Hall of Fame induction honoring Patti Scialfa.

He also appeared at the 81st Golden Globe Awards (where he was nominated for Best Original Song for “Addicted to Romance”), alongside Darlene Love to present her with a platinum record for “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” and multiple events at the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music on the campus of Monmouth University in New Jersey.

He 'just kind of shot through the roof': How Phoenix radio made Bruce Springsteen the Boss

Springsteen & the E Street Band to play 52 concerts in 2024

Springsteen and the E Street Band will play 52 concerts in 17 countries through late November 2024, starting in Phoenix.

Rolling Stone hailed the opening night of the tour he’s about to resume as  "ecstatic and emotional." Spin called it a  "must-see."

The opening leg of the tour includes 10 U.S. concerts that had to be rescheduled while Springsteen recovered from peptic ulcer disease and a newly added concert at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The remaining rescheduled U.S. dates will take place from Aug. 15 through Nov. 22 following a return to Europe for 26 shows this summer. He’ll also do a hometown performance in Asbury Park, New Jersey, where the E Street Band will headline the Sea.Hear.Now Festival on Sept. 15.

The European tour will follow up a successful trip to the continent last year, which sold more than 1.6 million tickets and earned praise as some of the best shows of the band’s career, Billboard deeming it “the greatest show on Earth.”

Despite the postponed North American dates, Springsteen and The E Street Band’s international run finished third on Pollstar’s countdown of the biggest tours of 2023, with only Taylor Swift and Beyoncé doing better at the box office.

'Best of Bruce Springsteen' album arriving in April

This spring also brings the recently released "Best of Bruce Springsteen" collection, a career-spanning anthology arriving April 19, gathering early-career favorites, live staples, best-selling breakouts and recent releases together for the first time.

Arriving via Sony Music, “Best of Bruce Springsteen” captures a 50-year body of work that has earned him honors and accolades including 20 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, a Tony Award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a Kennedy Center Honor and induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Since launching his career with “Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.,” Springsteen has sold more than 140 million records worldwide, including more than 70 million in the United States, becoming the first artist in history with a Top 5 album in six consecutive decades.

His latest album, released in November 2022, is a collection of soul and R&B covers called "Only the Strong Survive."

This is Springsteen's first Phoenix concert since the River Tour

Tuesday’s show at Footprint Center is Springsteen’s first metro Phoenix concert since 2016, when the E Street Band hit Talking Stick Resort Arena (now called Footprint Center) on  the River Tour, revisiting the 1980 masterstroke  that gave the world “Hungry Heart” while topping Billboard’s album chart, a Springsteen first.

TOOL plotting "big tour" for fall 2023

tool PRESS 2019 3, Travis Shinn

Outside of their headlining festival appearances at Florida's Welcome to Rockville (May 21st) and Ohio's Sonic Temple (May 25th), TOOL  have no other shows on the schedule for 2023. At least not yet. According to drummer  Danny Carey , the alt-metal giants are planning a "big tour" that's set to go down later this fall, presumably throughout North America.

The drummer spilled the beans during a video acceptance speech for Drumeo, who bestowed him with the title of "Progressive Drummer of the Year." After doling out the proper "thank yous" for his award, Carey ended his speech by giving TOOL fans a taste of what the band has in-store for later in 2023.

"I hope to see you out there on the road in 2023," Carey said. "We have a big tour coming in the fall, a few festivals in the summertime."

That's not a whole lot to go on, but it's enough to get us pumped at the prospect of an oncoming slew of TOOL dates. Drumeo is a website that offers video lessons and tutorials for drummers of all experience levels, and since it's based in Canada, we have to imagine Carey was directing that tour tease at North American viewers (it could very well be a world tour, as well).

See Carey's spiel below and stay tuned for more details.

No. 1 seed Purdue basketball will face 16-seed play-in winner to open 2024 NCAA tournament

tool tour opener 2023

Boilers fans won't have far to travel to watch their favorite team in March Madness.

Purdue basketball has earned a No. 1 Midwest Region seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament behind 7-4 senior center Zach Edey , who recently became the program's all-time leading scorer. Edey, who averages 24.3 points and 11.8 rebounds per game this season, was the consensus 2023 national player of the year and appears to be headed to similar honors this year.

Other key Purdue players: Braden Smith, a finalist for the nation's top point guard (12.7 points, 45.1% 3-point shooting, 7.2 assists, 5.9 rebounds, 1.7 steals); Lance Jones (12.3 points, 1.4 steals); Fletcher Loyer (10.5 points, 43.8% 3s).

Purdue wants to erase the memories of recent seasons , when it has lost to double-digit seeds in tournament action. As a No. 1 seed last year, the Boilermakers lost to No. 16 Fairleigh Dickinson in the first round, just the second instance of a 16 beating a 1 in tournament history.

Bilas believes: Analyst says Purdue has 'best draw of any one seed'

Taylor Swift's Eras: How the most successful concert tour ever got started in Arizona

tool tour opener 2023

Taylor Swift launched The Eras Tour era with a sold-out two-night stand at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on Friday and Saturday, March 17-18, 2023, the opening salvo of a record-breaking tour that has dominated headlines and, in many ways, the conversation ever since.

The Eras Tour is a phenomenon as big as Swift herself, if such a thing is possible — the highest-grossing tour of all time and the first tour in history to generate more than $1 billion in revenue.

The concert film — "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" — released in theaters worldwide on Oct. 13, 2023, quickly became the highest-grossing concert film in history , a record previously held by Justin Bieber.

Following The Eras Tour launch, Swift immediately shot to No. 1 on Pollstar's Artist Power Index chart , ending 2023 as Time magazine’s perfectly obvious choice for Person of the Year .

"Swift’s accomplishments as an artist — culturally, critically and commercially — are so legion that to recount them seems almost beside the point," Time wrote.

Then, after running down a laundry list of those accomplishments while placing her alongside Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Madonna as a pop star, Time explained why this year more than any other year.

"As a celebrity — who by dint of being a woman is scrutinized for everything from whom she dates to what she wears — she has long commanded constant attention and knows how to use it," Time wrote.

"But this year, something shifted. To discuss her movements felt like discussing politics or the weather — a language spoken so widely it needed no context. She became the main character of the world."

By that point, USA TODAY had hired its own Taylor Swift reporter and Swift had grabbed another first — first billionaire in history with music as the main source of income .

How the Year of Taylor Swift began in Glendale, Arizona

And to think: The Year of Taylor all began in Glendale, which renamed itself Swift City for the weekend in her honor.

A symbolic rebrand, the Swift City storyline played out on digital billboards along freeways and in Glendale's Westgate Entertainment District, where State Farm Stadium is located, welcoming fans to Swift City.

For what it's worth, we would've gone with Glendale (Taylor's Version) .

Swift had launched the Reputation Tour in that same stadium five years earlier.

She really likes us!

The Eras Tour is 'a journey through all of my musical eras'

In announcing the tour, Swift had promised “a journey through all of my musical eras,” which by any reasonable metric, is a lot of ground to cover — 10 hit albums, four of which have been released since the conclusion of the Reputation Tour in late 2018.

And she made it look easy, enjoying the journey as much as the Swifties who flocked to the show did while revisiting her catalog one era at a time in a marathon set that ran more than three hours, squeezing in 44 songs before the night was through.

Her earliest eras weren’t as prominently featured in the journey as her recent albums. There was only one song, “Tim McGraw,” from her first album, “Taylor Swift,” and one, “Enchanted,” from her third release, “Speak Now.”

The early albums she’d already rerecorded in “Taylor’s Version” editions by the time the tour launched were given more time in the spotlight. There were three songs from her second album “Fearless” and four from her fourth album, “Red.”

Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour: 5 magic moments at State Farm Stadium that Arizonans saw first

The Eras Tour favored the eras since the Reputation Tour

It made sense that Swift would give more stage time to the albums she hadn’t had a chance to tour since being forced to pull the plug on Lover Fest, the tour she had planned in support of 2019’s “Lover,” in response to the pandemic that took everybody off the road in 2020.

Not quite an hour into her performance on Night 1 in Glendale, Swift asked fans, “Is it just me or do we have a lot of things to catch up on?”

Noting that “it’s been a really long time since I’ve been on tour,” she said they’d “added four new members to the family” since that last tour, introducing them by name as “Lover,” “Folklore,” Evermore” and “Midnights,” her latest release, which brought the concert to an end with a seven-song sampler.

It was a breathtaking journey through 17 years’ worth of musical eras with the artist connecting with at every step along the way.

When Taylor dove into a stream and sang 'All Too Well'

The stage show was designed to reach the back rows of the stadium with a breathtaking blend of artful set design — that “Folklore” cabin was cottagecore gold — and film projected on the massive screen behind the stage.

It was a concert packed with highlights, the most theatrical of which came at the end of an understated “Tim McGraw,” which Swift performed alone on a satellite stage, accompanying herself on an upright piano. At the song’s conclusion, she stood up and appeared to dive into a stream to swim beneath the runaway to the main stage.

As entertaining as that was, the full 10-minute version of “All Too Well” from “Red (Taylor’s Version),” the longest song to top the Billboard Hot 100, emerged as the concert’s emotional centerpiece, a heartbreaking triumph that ended in a haunting shower of paper snowflakes.

That opening-night performance also introduced the concept of “ surprise songs ,” two unannounced acoustic songs she planned to slip into the set each night just to keep fans guessing in the Era of the Online Setlist, where a quick Google search can reveal all.

The Era Tour is scheduled to conclude on Dec. 8, 2024, in Vancouver, Canada.

As Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Hits One Year, Let’s Take a Look at Its Staggering Numbers

O n March 17, it will officially have been one year since Taylor Swift's Eras Tour kicked off in Glendale, Ariz. In the 12 months since that fateful first show, Swift has broken untold records , made history as TIME's 2023 Person of the Year , cultivated a new legion of NFL fans , and announced her forthcoming 11th studio album— The Tortured Poets Department , out April 19—among a litany of other accomplishments.

By the end of 2023—less than halfway through its scheduled 152-show run—the Eras Tour had earned over $1 billion to become the highest-grossing concert tour of all time. During that period, every city where Swift played got a substantial economic boost from the so-called "Taylor Swift effect," a term that refers to the singer's unprecedented ability to influence consumer behavior. Following the inaugural U.S. leg of Eras, the U.S. Travel Association estimated that the tour's total economic impact likely exceeded $10 billion.

In the new year, Swift's staggering popularity seems to somehow still be on the rise. Less than a week after watching her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, win the Super Bowl, Swift played to the biggest concert crowd of her career while performing at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia during the first run of 2024 Eras dates, following four shows in Tokyo.

In honor of the first anniversary of the start of the Eras Tour, we're taking a numerical look back at the biggest year of Swift's career to date.

Read More: 2023 Person of the Year: Taylor Swift

Number of Eras shows and cities

Swift will have played 83 shows across 30 cities as of March 17. Of those shows, 53 took place in the U.S. in 20 different cities stateside. The remaining 30 were part of the Latin America and Asia-Pacific legs of the tour. By the end of 2024, Swift is set to play a grand total of 152 Eras shows across 54 cities worldwide.

Number of surprise songs

In addition to her 40-plus-song set list, Swift has played at least two "surprise songs" per Eras show. Taking repeats into account, she has performed 145 different tracks (counting mashups of repeat songs as unique entries) as her 167 surprise offerings.

Number of special guests

From MUNA to Sabrina Carpenter to Haim, Swift's Eras stops have featured 10 different opening acts. She has also brought out eight other special guests, from Maren Morris to frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, to join her on stage at various shows.

Number of people in attendance at her biggest show to date

Swift played three back-to-back shows at MCG on Feb. 16, 17, and 18 that were each attended by a record 96,000 people for a three-day total of 288,000 concertgoers. Ed Sheeran, who drew a crowd of around 109,500 each of the two nights he played at MCG in 2023, still holds the venue's single-night attendance record. But that's largely due to the fact that Swift's stage setup took up more room in the arena, cutting down on the number of available seats.

Number of Eras tickets sold

Swift sold an estimated 4.35 million tickets across 60 tour dates within concert trade publication Pollstar's chart year of Nov. 17, 2022 to Nov. 15, 2023. That's an average of 72,500 tickets per show, with each ticket costing an average of $238.95. Using those numbers to extrapolate across shows played since then, Swift has likely now sold around 6.02 million tickets.

Total Eras Tour gross

Based on the approximately $17.32 million in ticket revenue Pollstar estimates Swift earned for each of the first 60 Eras dates, her total tour gross currently sits somewhere around $1.44 billion. By the end of 2024, the tour is expected to have brought in an astronomical $2.165 billion. For comparison, the second-highest grossing tour of all time, Elton John’s multi-year Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, sold six million tickets over the course of 328 shows to earn $939 million.

Total Eras merch revenue

According to reports from different venues, Pollstar estimates Eras attendees were spending an average of $40 per person on merch at the first 60 Eras shows. That puts Swift's tour merch revenue at an estimated $240.8 million—not including non-concert day purchases—following her first run of 2024 Eras dates.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour box-office earnings

Since its Oct. 13 release in theaters, Swift's record-breaking three-and-a-half-hour concert film has grossed $180,756,269 in North America and $261,656,269 globally at the box office. An extended edition of the movie became available to rent via video on demand services on Swift's birthday, Dec. 13, followed by the longest and most complete version of the film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) , arriving on streaming on Disney+ March 14.

Number of new songs

Since the Eras Tour began, Swift has released two re-recorded albums, Speak Now (Taylor's Version) and 1989 (Taylor's Version) , and one new single, "You're Losing Me (From the Vault)," for a total of 45 new songs (including re-recorded songs and vault tracks). In their first week of sales, Speak Now (Taylor's Version) , which featured one Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hit, and 1989 (Taylor's Version) , which featured seven Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hits, sold 716,000 equivalent album units and 1.653 million equivalent album units, respectively. "You're Losing Me (From the Vault)" tallied 8.7 million official streams and sold 19,000 downloads in the U.S. in the first two days after its Nov. 29 debut, according to Luminate .
