TCU got a close-up.

The university is now featured in “The College Tour,” a new series that visits universities across the world featuring students who talk about their experiences. Students gathered in the Campus Commons last month to watch the premiere.

Each episode is meant to provide more in-depth information than the average college tour. Several TCU students were selected to give a glimpse into their lives and why they chose their college.

“A lot of schools have virtual tours but they don’t do the schools justice,” said Burton Roberts, who was an executive producer along with Alex Boylan. “If you have a virtual tour at TCU, you may see some images of the buildings but it’s totally different when you get an in-person tour.”

TCU’s 32-minute  episode  highlighted 10 diverse students who chose TCU for the small school community feel with the school spirit of a big university.

TCU junior, Nand Javia, was one of the 10 students to share a unique story.

Javia, who is from India, spoke of the difficulties of trying to find a university to attend as an international student. He also shared his educational journey with others by posting videos on YouTube. Javia says he wants to educate other international students about his unique pathway and attending college in the U.S.

The episode is intended to showcase everything the university has to offer.

“We’re telling the story of people, the students, the community of TCU, the place Fort Worth and the culture of the school and the students and everything else,” Roberts says. “If you’re not there to see it, you have to watch it and you have to hear it through the people, and it was awesome to be able to help bridge that gap.”

College Tours TCU: Exploring the Campus and More

College tours are a crucial part of the college admissions process, allowing prospective students to get a feel for the campus, learn about the academic programs, and explore the surrounding area. For those interested in attending Texas Christian University (TCU), there are plenty of opportunities to visit the campus and discover all that it has to offer. This essay will explore the different aspects of college tours at TCU, including the different types of tours, what to expect on a tour, and the benefits of visiting the campus.

Types of College Tours at TCU

When it comes to visiting TCU, there are several different types of college tours to choose from. The most common type of tour is the general campus tour, which provides an overview of the university and its different academic programs. These tours generally last around one hour and are led by a student tour guide who will show you around the campus and answer any questions you may have.

Another popular option is the departmental tour, which allows prospective students to visit a specific department or major and learn more about the academic programs and opportunities available. These tours are usually led by a faculty member or a student in the major and can provide a more in-depth look at what it’s like to study a specific subject at TCU.

Finally, there are special event tours, which are offered throughout the year and provide a unique experience for prospective students. These tours may include attending a class or meeting with current students and faculty members.

What to Expect on a TCU College Tour

No matter what type of tour you choose, there are certain things you can expect to see and learn on a TCU college tour. For starters, you’ll get a chance to explore the campus, including the different academic buildings, residence halls, and recreational facilities. You’ll also learn more about the history and traditions of the university and the academic programs that are available.

One of the unique things about TCU is its focus on the student experience, and this is something that is emphasized on all college tours. You’ll have a chance to meet with current students and learn more about their experiences at TCU, as well as ask questions about everything from academics to social life on campus.

Benefits of Visiting the Campus

There are many benefits to visiting the TCU campus in person, beyond just learning more about the university and its programs. For one thing, visiting the campus can help you get a better sense of whether or not TCU is the right fit for you. You’ll be able to see the facilities and meet the people who will be part of your college experience, which can be invaluable in making a decision about where to attend college.

Additionally, visiting the campus can help you stand out in the college admissions process. Admissions officers are often impressed by students who take the time to visit the campus and learn more about the university, as it shows a genuine interest in attending and a willingness to go the extra mile to learn more.

Making the Most of Your TCU College Tour

To get the most out of your TCU college tour, there are a few things you can do to prepare. First, be sure to research the university beforehand and come up with a list of questions you want to ask. This will help you make the most of your time on campus and ensure that you get the information you need to make an informed decision.

Additionally, consider taking notes during the tour or bringing a camera to document your experience. This will help you remember the different parts of the campus and the things you learned during the tour.

Finally, don’t be afraid to ask questions and engage with the tour guide and other people you meet on campus. This is your chance to learn as much as you can about TCU and the college experience, so make the most of it.

College tours at TCU can be an incredibly valuable experience for prospective students, providing a chance to explore the campus, learn about the academic programs, and meet the people who will be part of their college experience. Whether you choose to take a general campus tour, a departmental tour, or a special event tour, there is something for everyone at TCU. So if you’re considering attending TCU, be sure to schedule a college tour and discover all that this amazing university has to offer.

How WBIT teams are selected

The WBIT selection committee, made up of five former DI women's basketball coaches and three current/former Division I athletic administrators will choose the field.

First, second and quarterfinal games will be held at campus sites. Action then moves to Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, for the semifinals and championship.

HOW IT WORKS:  Tap here for a full explanation of the selection process

The top 16 teams, as selected by the committee, will host the first round games, provided they submit a bid and meet the minimum hosting requirements. Regular season champions of DI conferences not selected to the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship secure automatic qualification into the WBIT. The first four teams out of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship — as determined by the Division I Women's Basketball Committee — receive automatic bids and will be the top four seeds in the WBIT.

Work to Begin this Spring on University Drive

  • Facebook Icon
  • Twitter Icon

The stretch of University Drive that runs through the TCU campus is scheduled for improvements that will usher in safer vehicle and pedestrian traffic. While the campus community will start to see minor work soon, TCU and the city of Fort Worth are working together to schedule most of the work during the summer in order to minimize the disruption.

“While we may experience some inconveniences along the way, the final result of this much-needed project will improve safety for both vehicles and pedestrians through campus and also provide additional beautification,” said Morgan McGlothlin, project manager with TCU Facilities.

Upon completion of construction, McGlothlin explained, users will benefit from upgraded traffic signals and enhanced crosswalks. The project will concurrently widen walkways and expand median landscaping for safety.

The most visible construction is set to begin after Commencement in May. The street construction will result in inside lanes being closed in the first phase, and outside lanes being closed in the second. Sidewalk closures will also be phased, but alternate walking paths will be installed, and work is targeted for the less-busy summer months.

“We plan for the lion’s share of the work to take place over summer and to mitigate the impact as much as possible in the fall,” said McGlothlin.

When traffic or pedestrian impacts begin, necessary information will be posted on the TCU Parking & Transportation website .

Report: patriots hosting top-30 visit with tcu tight end, share this article.

The New England Patriots are doing their homework at all positions prior to the 2024 NFL draft, and that includes the tight end spot. The organization will be hosting TCU tight end Jared Wiley on a top-30 visit, per Bleacher Report’s Ryan Fowler.

Wiley recorded 47 catches for 520 yards and eight touchdowns last season for the Horned Frogs. He transferred from Texas following the 2021 season and immediately made an impact in the TCU tight end room.

Wiley had 90 catches for 1,013 yards and 15 touchdowns in his five-year career.

He measures in at 6-foot-7 and 255 pounds. New England needs youth at the tight end position, and he could certainly be a target worth monitoring. His size in particular could be a threat in the red zone.

The New England Patriots will host TCU TE Jared Wiley on a 30 visit, source said. Athletic Y/F that moves extremely well at 6’6”, 250. — Ryan Fowler (@_RyanFowler_) April 5, 2024

Tight end is not one of New England’s most immediate needs.

However, youth at the position is going to be crucial moving forward. It’s encouraging that they are at least kicking the proverbial tires on prospects at the position.

TCU Basketball: Jamie Dixon Signs Contract Extension

TCU signs head men's basketball coach Jamie Dixon through the 2029-30 season.

  • Author: Davis Wilson

In this story:

TCU coach Jamie Dixon signed an extension with his alma mater on Thursday that will, in theory, keep him in Fort Worth through the 2029-30 season.

Dixon had been linked to the USC job opening, but a brand new contract puts any doubt about his future at TCU to sleep.

Dixon's tenure at TCU has been historic for the program. He is 160-110 in eight seasons with the Horned Frogs and has led TCU to a program record three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Dixon also led TCU in 23 of the program's 38 top-25 victories.

Before he coached for the Horned Frogs, he played for them and helped TCU make the NCAA Tournament in 1987. That season, he averaged 12.3 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, 5.4 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game and contributed 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists in his team's Round of 64 win over Marshall.

Dixon is bringing in the 16th best recruiting class in the country and has a track record of getting busy during transfer season, so all signs point to continued success for TCU basketball.

What will it take to win Masters 2024? One statistic explains why Scottie Scheffler tops the field

Who else can compete with scheffler, who remains the hottest golfer on the pga tour.

The Masters - Round Two

How does one go about winning the Masters? It's a question that occupies the space in many minds, professional golfers most of all. Thankfully, for those of us not playing in the actual tournament, there's a fairly objective and straightforward answer: You hit wonderful approach shots for 72 straight holes.

We can talk about the importance of putting and how one needs to have good hands around those greens, or about how relatively easy it is to play out of the first cut at Augusta National so longer, wilder drivers can find success.

But here's the cold reality for all the non-flushers out there: Seven of the last nine Masters winners have been in the  top six for the week in approach play . You have to hit the hell out of it, and you have to be disciplined about how you do it. Sometimes, that means green lights right at those lovely yellow flags. Sometimes, it might mean playing so far away from the hole that it looks like you're aiming off the green.

Regardless, to stay disciplined for 72 consecutive holes at Augusta with your irons is an extremely difficult task.

Though behind-the-scenes numbers show that Jordan Spieth has largely been the best iron player at that golf course over the last 10 or so years, there has only been official tracking of individual strokes gained categories for the last three years at Augusta National.

Watch all four rounds of the 2024 Masters starting Thursday with  Masters Live  as we follow the best golfers in the world through Augusta National with  Featured Groups , check in at the famed  Amen Corner  and see leaders round the turn on  holes 15 & 16 . Watch live on  CBSSports.com , the  CBS Sports App  and  Paramount+ .

Here are those official numbers on approach play, according to Data Golf, for the last three years (minimum eight rounds played).

Your leader? Well, there is no surprise.

There are some fascinating names on that list. Matsuyama and Schauffele have been two of the better players on the PGA Tour so far this year. Matsuyama won the Genesis Invitational in February, and both threatened to win the Players Championship in March.

Others have struggled. Morikawa missed two early cuts and does not have a top 10 anywhere since The Sentry in January. Corey Conners has been hitting it pretty good, but going into the Houston Open, he had one fewer top 10 than Morikawa does so far this year.

There are some unknowns. Cameron Smith has been mostly good on LIV Golf; Sergio Garcia has been up and down. Are either sharp enough to win a second major championships?

Speaking of LIV, it has thrown a huge wrench into how this data is accumulated and evaluated. Though overall strokes gained can be found without lasers and technology -- because it's just your score relative to those from everyone else -- specific categorical strokes gained data requires that technology. LIV apparently has it but is choosing not making the numbers public yet. So, though I believe Joaquin Niemann and Jon Rahm should probably be on the current list of best approach play golfers in 2024, they aren't because we just don't have the numbers.

Here's that list (going into the Houston Open). It only includes players who are in the Masters and have at least 10 measured rounds.

2024 worldwide SG approach

Ah, Scheffler. If you blindly look at both this year's statistics and recent history at Augusta, he is the obvious choice to win this tournament by, like, 15 shots. It's a true "Scottie or the field" situation. Just look at his rankings.

  • SG approach at Augusta (last three years): 1st
  • SG tee to green at Augusta (last three years): 1st
  • Total SG at Augusta (last three years): 2nd (Will Zalatoris is 1st)
  • SG approach worldwide since Jan. 1: 1st
  • SG tee to green worldwide since Jan. 1: 1st
  • Total SG worldwide since Jan. 1: 1st

Outrageous stuff. How does one not pick him to win this event?

The reality is that Scheffler is unlikely to win. Even amid his recent hot streak since the beginning of 2022, he has only won around 20% of the time. An outrageous number for golf, but still one that means 80% of the time somebody else has held the trophy.

And if the best player this year (and of the last several years) is not the guy wearing green on Sunday at the Masters, the rest of the players on these two lists should be considered extremely good candidates to do so.

The Electoral College question looming over 2024

Former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden.

There are two scenarios that could explain where the 2024 election stands right now. In one, President Joe Biden is locked in something close to a 50-50 contest with former President Donald Trump.

In the other, Biden is trailing by more — maybe much more — than the national polls suggest.

The answer depends largely on whether Trump and Republicans have maintained the advantage in the Electoral College that they held in the last two presidential elections.

In 2016, Democrat Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by more than 2 percentage points — but Trump’s performance among certain demographics and in certain states meant he defeated her in the Electoral College, 306 to 232. (Because of “faithless” electors, the final history-book margin later changed to 304 to 227.)

In 2020, Biden bested Trump in the popular vote by 4.5 percentage points, getting him the same number of Electoral College votes Trump won four years earlier — 306.

And if that trend carries over to 2024, Biden might have to win the popular vote by 5 points or more to get the 270-plus Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency.

But a two-election trend is no guarantee of future results. And there’s another school of thought about 2024 that the GOP’s Electoral College edge may not be as pronounced, as Trump has made gains with Black and Latino voters, including in states like California and New York that won’t come close to deciding the presidential election. Even slightly better margins for Trump in those big, blue states could bring the national vote and the tipping-point state vote into closer alignment.

The question, however, is how sizable that decrease might be — if there is any. It’s an important piece of information to help gauge what the national polls really mean right now, but it’s also shrouded in mystery.

“With Trump’s improvements among Hispanic and Black voters, the pro-GOP bias may decline by 1 to 2 points — but it won’t be erased,” said David Wasserman, senior editor and elections analyst at the Cook Political Report with Amy Walter.

“In other words, I think Trump could lose the popular vote by 2 points in November and still have an excellent chance of carrying Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada — which is why I view Trump as a pretty obvious favorite at the moment,” Wasserman added.

The case for the GOP maintaining its Electoral College edge

When political analysts discuss Electoral College bias, they’re referring to the difference between the margins in the popular vote and in the “tipping point” state — that is, the decisive state that carried the victorious candidate across the 270-electoral vote threshold needed to win the presidency.

Over much of the last 70 years, the tipping point states have closely tracked to the popular vote.

In 2012, for example, Barack Obama won the popular vote by almost 4 percentage points, and he carried his tipping point state, Colorado, by more than 5 points.

But that changed in the Trump era, when the Electoral College bias grew to the highest level since 1948 — in the Republican Party’s direction.

Part of the explanation was Trump’s particularly strong performance among white working-class voters in the Midwest and Rust Belt battleground states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Another explanation was Democrats’ overperformance in states like California and New York, which aren’t key to deciding presidential contests in our current political landscape.

“Biden won by roughly 7 million votes [in 2020],” said Republican pollster Bill McInturff, the GOP half of the bipartisan team that conducts the NBC News poll. “He won California by 5 million votes; he won New York by 2 million votes.”

“This means in 48 other states and D.C., the vote was essentially tied,” McInturff added.

Also, Democratic improvement in Texas — going from 41% of the vote in 2012 to 46% in 2020 — further underscores how, in the Trump era, three of the most populous states have swung in the Democrats’ direction relative to the nation.

And with Biden and Trump set to be on the presidential ballot again in 2024, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to see both overperformances — Trump’s with white working-class voters, Biden’s with voters in places like California and New York — repeat themselves.

The case for the GOP losing its Electoral College edge

A year ago, however, political number crunchers Nate Cohn of The New York Times  and J. Miles Coleman and Kyle Kondik of the  University of Virginia’s Center for Politics  surmised that 2024 could be different from 2016 and 2020.

With national polls showing Trump faring better with Black and Latino voters, and with Democrats performing better in the 2022 midterms in states like Michigan and Pennsylvania than in California and New York (relative to past results), they argued that the pro-GOP Electoral College bias could be shrinking.

“If in fact Trump is improving with young and diverse voters — a debatable proposition, I think, but this is what the polls show now — it may simply give him better margins in states he’s already likely to win or lose, like California, Florida and New York,” Kondik told NBC News.

“So I do think it’s possible that the pro-GOP bias in the Electoral College could be smaller in 2024 than 2020,” he added.

Indeed, recent high-quality California polls  show  Biden ahead of Trump in the state by about 20 points in a head-to-head matchup, down from Biden’s nearly 30-point winning margin in California in 2020.

As Cohn put it in his New York Times article last year: “At the very least, tied national polls today don’t mean Mr. Trump leads in the states likeliest to decide the presidency.”

Where the battleground polling stands right now

Currently, Biden and Trump are locked in a competitive contest nationally, according to head-to-head polls, but Trump has held a small, yet consistent, advantage in several of the top battleground states, although those results are usually within the margin of error.

And polling averages do hint at a pro-Trump Electoral College   bias in some battlegrounds, but not others. Now, a big caveat: Using polling averages to measure exactly   where a presidential contest currently stands can be problematic, because of the polls’ different methodologies, their different margins of error and their different reputations. But they can be useful to take a broad view at how the national polls might be different from battleground surveys.

According to the RealClearPolitics average, Biden and Trump are essentially tied in the national polls.

They’re also essentially tied in the battlegrounds of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, suggesting little to no pro-GOP bias in those states — a shift from the final results in the last few elections, when those states tilted several points to the right of the national vote.

But Trump is ahead in other battleground states, including in Michigan, which some analysts believe could be the tipping point state in 2024.
