Making no secret of their love of classic British rock n roll, they pepper their blistering sets with songs from The Who, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Motörhead and more.

The self-described “ best bar band in the world ” consists of core members and rock legends Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Aerosmith´s Joe Perry, together with guitarist Tommy Henriksen . Their tradition is to play a riotous tribute to the great lost heroes of music and their own original material, released on their studio album ‘ Rise ’ .

With stone cold classics by the likes of The Doors, Love, AC/DC and the rest, plus of course Alice and Aerosmith’s hits, the band was voted the “best performance” of 2018 at London’s Wembley Arena on their last UK journey.

The band will be joined by special guests, by way of San Francisco band The Tubes .

The Hollywood megastar's supergroup is a weird and riotous celebration of 'dead, drunk friends'

Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper, and Aerosmith's Joe Perry are one of the more curious musical combos. Since 2012 the unlikely trio have been touring as the Hollywood Vampires, based on the 1970s LA drinking club formed by Cooper that occasionally included the likes of John Lennon and Ringo Starr.

Legend has it that that group would meet in an upstairs bar in LA’s Sunset Strip and drink until nobody could stand up. Years later Cooper, Depp, and Perry crank out trademark rock classics and original tunes on stages across the world. It’s a bizarre toast to “dead, drunk friends” but in spirit rather than actuality, at least in Cooper’s case – he reportedly swapped vodka shots for golf years ago.

If it sounds like something dreamed up it still feels a little like that when the band take the stage at the Swansea Arena on Friday for the second night of a UK tour that was scrapped back in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Looking someway between a geriatric magic show and the undead crew aboard a lost pirate ship (really, did you think there would be no Pirates of the Caribbean reference here?), the band are clearly all in on the affair. Cooper, now 75, is almost entirely clad in leather and wears his trademark black eye makeup. Depp looks like a slightly toned-down version of his Captain Jack Sparrow alias sporting a crochet hat, layers of bracelets, and a medical boot on his left foot after an ankle fracture that forced the band to cancel some shows earlier this summer.

Cracking through classics by AC/DC and The Who along with tracks from their new album Live in Rio the show frequently veers towards the cartoonish. "We play songs for our dead drunk friends," cries Cooper, wild-eyed and wielding his cane theatrically at the crowd before launching into the opening stomp of The Doors' Five to One.

Band original Dead Drunk Friends sees the singer, whose voice still retains an impressive rasp, tottering around the stage and raising an imaginary glass to the heavens. The world has moved on since Cooper’s heyday when men in makeup singing about the last day of school-induced pearl-clutching and Friday night is less shock rock and more macabre satire.

That doesn’t mean it isn’t immense fun though. Perry and Cooper are nothing if not seasoned performers at this stage of their careers, and they cleverly pepper the set with belters like Baba O'Riley, Walk This Way, and David Bowie's Heroes (led by Depp on vocals.) At one point a giant set of bloodied fangs are hung menacingly from above the stage while there is plenty of smoke shot into the air, dramatic visuals of skulls, and departed legends like Bon Scott, Kurt Cobain and Phil Lynott, and the customary drum and bass solos you'd expect from a pumped-up rock show.

The star of the show, needless to say, is Depp, who throws nonchalant waves and pats his chest in between guitar riffs, well aware of the reason many have come tonight. "Johnny Depp in the flesh!" one woman is overheard screaming from the hall outside to no-one in particular. I also encounter a woman walking her dog outside who, unprompted, tells me of her devastation at not getting tickets and how she's been wandering the streets "trying to find Johnny Depp". A small crowd gathers near the stage door even before the show is over and you sense there's only one man they're hoping for a glimpse of.

Did Depp take in the exotic sights of Wind Street? Did Edward Scissorhands himself sample a Welsh cake? Who knows. But he certainly seems to enjoy his Welsh trip. One of the last stars of a bygone Hollywood era, the actor smiles through the set, joking and laughing with the band as calls of "we love you Johnny" ring out any time there is a snatch of silence in the packed arena. "Thank you so much," he mumbles in his whimsical way to the crowd as he leads a tribute to the late Jeff Beck and takes vocal duties on Heroes. As someone who never had a chance to see Bowie live, I enjoy it immensely. Judge me as you will.

Some might call the whole thing a vanity project for washed-up rock stars with little else to do but those constantly looking for nuance are likely to be disappointed no matter where they look. Tonight leaves introspection in the dust in place of head-melting guitar riffs, nostalgia, and rock pageantry. Sit back, enjoy it, and don’t think about it too much.

As the final chords ring through the arena the band give it one more burst of bombastic, vampiric (oh, go on then) energy for good measure before greeting the crowd as one. It's odd and ridiculous as all hell but oddly touching too – a few old friends having fun in front of rock (and Depp) fans doing the very same. Who could begrudge any of us that?

Hollywood Vampires: Everything you need to know ahead of Johnny Depp's band's gig in Swansea

American rock band Hollywood Vampires are preparing to perform a huge concert in Swansea tonight.

The self-described “best bar band in the world” consists of rock legends Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Aerosmith ́s Joe Perry, together with guitarist Tommy Henriksen.

The band, which formed in 2012, were due to tour the UK in 2020, but had to cancel it due to the pandemic.

During that period, Depp was involved in a public defamation trial as he sued his ex-wife, Aquaman star Amber Heard, for claims of domestic abuse.

The band, who have released two studio albums which includes original music and covers, will play their sold out concert at Swansea Arena this evening, after support act The Tubes.

What time does the gig start?

Doors open at 6pm, with the show starting at 7:30pm. However these timings are subject to change.

Swansea Arena tweeted saying strict security measures are in place, and advised ticket holders to arrive with plenty of time "to ensure a swift entrance into the Arena".

Can I take a bag into the concert?

Organisers say concert-goers are prohibited from bringing any bag into the stadium unless it is smaller than an A4 piece of paper.

Should you arrive with any luggage or baggage larger than a sheet of A4 paper, you will be asked to stow this in their cloakroom at an additional charge.

Where can I park?

Copr Bay South Car Park, beneath the Coastal Park, accessed from Oystermouth Road.

St. David’s Car Park, accessed from Oystermouth Road.

Paxton Street Car Park.

What about buses, trains and taxis?

Swansea Arena is amply supplied by extensive public transport links.

Should you be arriving by train, please visit Transport for Wales for information regarding times and routes, and for all further queries.

What about wheelchair accessibility?

Swansea Arena has step free walkways leading to the front entrance and all areas inside the venue served by two lifts. There is also level access throughout the Arena.

A sloping walkway leads directly from the city centre across the Copr Bay Bridge to the front entrance of the Arena. A staircase and lift are located in the adjacent car park to provide easy access to the main entrance level.

For any individual who requires wheelchair support during an event, the venue also have provisions to supply back-up and emergency wheelchairs.

The band's UK tour also calls at London, Manchester and Glasgow.

Johnny Depp to tour UK with Hollywood Vampires in 2023

The newly announced dates include a show at London's O2 next July

Hollywood Vampires have announced a UK tour with Johnny Depp for summer 2023 – check out the full list of tour dates and ticket details below.

The rock supergroup – comprising Depp, Alice Cooper , Joe Perry and Tommy Henriksen – will perform six UK dates next July in Scarborough, Swansea, Manchester, London, Birmingham and Glasgow.

The band were forced to cancel their planned 2020 tour due to the pandemic, but will return for a string of European dates in June 2023 , before continuing on to the UK throughout July.

Pre-sale for Glasgow, Manchester and London starts Wednesday, October 26 at 10am here , while general starts October 28 at 10am BST and tickets can be purchased here .

Speaking in a press statement, Cooper said: “Well, it’s already been three years since the Vampires have toured because of Covid. Also, Johnny has his movies, Joe’s in Aerosmith and I’m in Alice Cooper, so we have to look at that whole thing and see when we can all get a month or two off where we can go out and tour.”

“And, we are going to be doing that, next summer coming up, 2023. I can’t wait to get back with the guys, I really love being in that band. My band is great and wonderful, but playing with the Vampires is an entirely different situation.

Earlier this year, Depp and and Jeff Beck  shared  a new cover of The Velvet Underground’s ‘Venus In Furs’.

In May, the actor made headlines when he was a surprise guest at Beck’s show in Sheffield, before he went on to  join Beck on stage at a handful of other gigs  despite awaiting the verdict in his defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard at the time.

Today (October 24) it emerged that Depp and Beck are suing a professor and folklorist, Bruce Jackson , over his allegations the pair’s song ‘Sad Motherfuckin’ Parade’ plagiarises an old poem titled  Hobo Ben .

Hollywood Vampires have announced a 2023 UK arena tour with Seether and The Tubes.

The supergroup – compromised of Alice Cooper , Johnny Depp, Joe Perry and Tommy Henriksen – will “rise again” next summer for six shows in Scarborough, Swansea, Manchester, London, Birmingham and Glasgow.

As part of their six-date UK tour , Hollywood Vampires performed a sold-out show at Swansea Arena on Friday 8th July.

Joined by special guests The Tubes, Alice Cooper , Joe Perry , Johnny Depp and Tommy Henriksen treated the 3,500 Welsh fans to a 19-song set featuring Hollywood Vampires originals and a smorgasbord of cover versions.

Alice Cooper’s solo material was represented by ‘I’m Eighteen’ and closer ‘School’s Out’, while Joe Perry’s day job band Aerosmith had two songs on the setlist - ‘Bright Light Fright’ and ‘Walk This Way.’

Elsewhere, Hollywood Vampires took on tracks by The Who (‘Baba O’Riley’), David Bowie (‘Heroes’), AC/DC (‘The Jack’) and many more.

Hollywood Vampires’ UK tour continues at Birmingham Utilita Arena on Tuesday night (11th July) before concluding at Glasgow OVO Hydro on Wednesday (12th July).

American supergroup Hollywood Vampires announce their UK return with a July 2023 tour. You just can’t keep a good band down. Forced to cancel their planned 2020 tour due to the pandemic, the special bond that ties the members of the Hollywood Vampires to the UK has brought them back at the earliest opportunity.

Making no secret of their love of classic British rock n roll, they pepper their blistering sets with songs from The Who, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Motörhead and more.

Alice Cooper: "Well, it’s already been three years since the Vampires have toured because of Covid. Also, Johnny has his movies, Joe’s in Aerosmith and I’m in Alice Cooper, so we have to look at that whole thing and see when we can all get a month or two off where we can go out and tour. And, we are going to be doing that, next summer coming up, 2023. I can't wait to get back with the guys, I really love being in that band. My band is great and wonderful, but playing with the Vampires is an entirely different situation. I don’t necessarily do any theatrics at all, I’m just the lead singer, in a band, and the band just happens to be one of the best bands around! It’ll be great to see Johnny and Joe and Buck and Chris and all the guys. We’ll be rocking these places, especially the UK, I can’t wait to get to the UK! Lock your doors, put garlic all around, because the Vampires are coming!"

The self-described “best bar band in the world” consists of core members and rock legends Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Aerosmith´s Joe Perry, together with guitarist Tommy Henriksen. Their tradition is to play a riotous tribute to the great lost heroes of music and their own original material, released on their studio album ‘Rise’. With stone cold classics by the likes of The Doors, Love, AC/DC and the rest, plus of course Alice and Aerosmith’s hits, the band was voted the “best performance” of 2018 at London’s Wembley Arena on their last UK journey.

The three legends first came together to record in 2015, bonding over a shared love of their favourite songs and a desire to celebrate their ‘dead, drunk friends’ by playing the music of the fallen heroes. Named after Alice’s 1970s drinking club that included the likes of John Lennon, Keith Moon and Mickey Dolenz, legendary performances ensued around the world.

The 16-track album ‘Rise’, produced by Tommy Henriksen and the Hollywood Vampires, is one of the purest, most unapologetic and enjoyable rock and roll albums of recent times, made by masters of the craft and true fans of the form. Unlike their 2015 debut record, the second album consists mainly of original material, written by the band. There are, however, in the spirit of the Vampires’ original mission, three covers of songs originally written and recorded by legendary rockers who died far too young. ‘Rise’ is released on earMUSIC.

San Francisco band The Tubes will also be supporting on all UK Tour dates (except Scarborough) from 7 July onwards.

The supergroup Hollywood Vampires formed by Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp will be back on the road in 2023 and announced many new tour dates for 2023. They have scheduled shows in Romania, Turkey, Bulgaria, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, United Kingdom, Hungary and Slovakia.

The band was formed back in 2012 by Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry. The name was inspired by the celebrity drinking club formed by Cooper in the 70s at the Rainbow Bar & Grill in Los Angeles, that also had names like John Lennon, Harry Nilson, Ringo Starr, Keith Moon and Mickey Dolenz.

Other touring members that had been with the band over the years were Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), “Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots) and Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses, The Cult, Velvet Revolver). They released two studio albums, the self-titled debut in 2015 and their second “Rise” in 2019. Besides celebrating classic Rock and Roll bands covering them on the setlist, the band also plays some original tracks released on the two albums.
