Tyler Gregory Okonma better known by his stage name Tyler, The Creator, is an American rapper and record producer from California.

Tyler showed an interest to music from an incredibly young age, at the age of seven, he would take the cover out of an album's case and create covers for his own imaginary albums including a track list with song times before he could even make music. At fourteen, he taught himself to play the piano and music became a constant in his ever changing home life, he attended twelve different schools over his twelve year education.

On December 25, 2009, Tyler self released his first album entitled 'Bastard' which went on to receive rave reviews from critics, including Pitchfork Media who placed it at #32 on their top 100 albums of the year list. He followed this up with 'Goblin' which secured him a one album deal with XL Recordings. His next album 'Wolf' was released in 2013 and was produced solely by Tyler, featuring guest appearances from Frank Ocean, Mike G, Domo Genesis, Earl Sweatshirt, Left Brain and Hodgy Beats.

Tyler has found himself at the centre of negative media attention for his use of homophobic slurs, frequently the use of the epithet faggot in his lyrics and on social media. He personally denied the accusations of homophobia, stating, "I'm not homophobic. I just say faggot and use gay as an adjective to describe stupid shit," and, "I'm not homophobic. I just think faggot hits and hurts people". He appears to understand very little of the impact of his derogatory use of language. However Tyler, The Creator was the first to openly show support for fellow Odd Future member Frank Ocean after he revealed he had a relationship with another younger man. The young rapper has managed to collect a number of nominations at the MTV Music Video Awards, along with acclaim for his solo discography and work within Odd Future despite numerous controversies surrounding his lyrical content.

Live reviews

I have been a fan of Tyler for a long time, as well as the whole group of OFWGKTA, and seeing him live was something I had on my bucket list. I went in with high expectations for his show, already knowing of how much energy and enthusiasm he puts into his live performances. What I got at The Forum went above and beyond anything I could have hoped for. The crowd was amazing, knowing every song and shouting and yelling along with unrivaled amounts of energy. Tyler was just as, or even more, energetic and knew how to work the crowd perfectly by interaction, be it between moments talking about random things or talking about his music and singing. I was blown away by the fact that at least twice he called to stop the song just to start it again because he loved how into it the crowd was and wanted to see it again. Of course we, the crowd, loved it and drained our lungs out with every lyric. I've seen the Arctic Monkeys, Sleigh Bells, Banks, Pendulum, Wolf Alice and others and can honestly say Tyler was the best overall. Everyone exited the venue with shirts soaked in sweat and with cracking voices, with grins on their face from having experienced something they'd never forget. If you like Tyler, or by extension OFWGKTA, you have to see him live if you get the opportunity, you can never anticipate how godly his live performances will be. I will definitely be waiting for his next visit to see him again.

The show started almost on time with a short DJ warm up by Taco and quickly two other Odd Future boys - Tyler himself and Jasper Dolphin - entered the stage. Tyler performed both old and new songs, mostly his upbeat hits and in between songs he'd converse with the crowd in his own down to earth way. Tyler is an amazing performer, he knows when the crowd gets too hot and needs a break or when we need a little bit more jumping to liven up the mood. The concert was intimate despite it being sold out because of Tylers genuine and unique personality and he almost makes it sound like he's speaking to a bunch of friends rather than a bunch of sweaty fans. The concert lasted for about an hour and a half. I was front row on the ground and it was wild at times and very crowded, so if that's something you do not like; go to the balconies instead (the people I was with chose to do that and says it is more calm) because with an audience mostly consisting of semi-drunk teenage boys, it is bound to go a bit crazy at times. But as I mentioned, Tyler and the two other boys were very aware of how we as an audience were feeling and you felt safe. To sum it up, it was a very intimate and very much how you would expect it to be, if you have followed Tyler as a fan for a while concert and definitely in my top best concerts ever. A must for fans of him and OFWGKTA.

To be quite honest, I am not the most hardcore fan of Yellowcard and I only know a few of their earlier songs. Regardless of that, however, I actually had quite a lot of fun at their gig at Fuji Rock Festival 2013 last summer. I think their strong fan base all over the world and how they can really rally up a crowd is one aspect that makes this band so fun to watch live. The fans really get wild and stay wild for the entire concert as soon as the band walks on the stage. The crowd just crowd surf each other and go absolutely nuts and it's an entertaining sight! The bands music is extremely loud and you can hear it throughout the entire venue and I feel that Yellowcard represents a lot of what rock is about nowadays. It's about making music that allows for everybody Iistening to come together and enjoy the music and the festival vibe and I think Yellowcard did a good job of that in my opinion despite not knowing much about them! Yellowcard is definitely a great concert for those who want to go apeshit with the influence of rock!

The doors opened at 20:30.

The timetable said the show will start at 22:00 but taco's set started at 22:00.

The bass and sound setup was good and wasn't to hard.

When Tyler came on stage, Everybody went crazy. There where moshpits the hole show.

The biggest moshpit was at the last song Cherry Bomb.

Tyler did it pretty good on stage. Sometimes he had to take a break because his astma. But Taco and Jasper continued the song if that happened.

Me and my friend visited the movie he organised in the afternoon so we got priority for the show. This was good because it wasn't that busy at the merchandise store . When the other people came in, I'm sure I couldn't get the Cherry Bomb 6 panel. After the show they sold out.

Because the delay of the show we missed our last train so we spend our night at the station. Maybe thats a tip for the next time. Do the show a bit earlier!

But after all it was amazing!

Amazing experience... Taco was an amazing DJ doing a great job of hyping the crowd up. Then Vince came out and killed it just a great set. the stage design was like no other the rotating screens were really cool and it was nice that they put timers up so we knew when Vince would come out. Tyler's performance was just amazing he performed for 2 1/2 hours and he really is a great performer, he performed both old and new songs there wasn't a favorite of mine that he missed. The stage design was so cool with a huge tree for Tyler to stand on. Tyler really cares about his fans he sang happy birthday to this one dude which was so sick. The show was sold out so 2,400 people were all singing the words to his songs which was just amazing the best concert experience I have ever had I have to go see him live again.

Okay, so straight up, the venue kinda sucked. Tyler was playing The Forum, in London. The venue itself was pretty decent, big floor space and actually a decent amount of room. The security were pretty cool too. Only problem is, before Tyler goes on, they turn off the fans keeping the place cool, so for the next two hours, it is boiling, like people are walking around soaked in sweat. BUT TYLER was amazing. The videos on Youtube and junk do him no justice, he was awesome. Taco came on and DJ'd to get everyone hyped which was awesome. Tyler was talking to the crowd and it was wild. He played all his decent songs, playing stuff from all three albums, and everyone fucking loved it. The crowd were sick too, everyone in GOLF shit, 10/10 performance. (Wish he had played Sandwitches though)

Man Oh Man is Tyler AWESOME OR WHAT? I can honestly say that Tyler fans are the most energetic fans I've ever seen, me included haha. I've never been in a mosh pit that was this crazy before, and I loved every second of it. You will not regret going to see Tyler because he is just that awesome. This was my first time seeing him in concert and I was super happy at how approachable and funny he was. He knows how to work the crowd and how to get literally every last person on their feet and stomping the roof off of the building. I can’t wait until he come the SF again. Tyler I’m waiting for you!!

P.S - HE BROUGHT TACO AND JASPER!!!!!

I loved every min of his performance.. I loved and appreciated the re-verb of ''tell these black kids they can be who they are'' means so much to us. And I know this isn't his favorite album and It didn't come out as this ''star studded'' album. But there's no one couldn't have said it better than Tyler at this time. So I want to thank him for that. Maybe he will finally be able to score a movie that would be so !!!!

From a guy who’s grown up with Tyler and used his music to get through rough patches and hard times after waiting 8 years to see him live, I can honestly say it was the greatest thing I’ve ever experienced. I’ve never been happier in life than I was that night, stood from my seat the entire time and went word for word with Tyler himself to all the songs he performed Is something I could only dream of. I plan on going every year for as long as he continue touring from now on.

Rex Orange County opened with dope beach vibes then later joined in on "Boredom". After Rex finished, Tyler carried the show alone reflecting the energy of the whole crowd. He is a lightening storm on stage. He said that one of his goals on this tour is to see the crowd dance and his beats strongly reflect that sentiment. If you find yourself lucky at one of his shows, do yourself a favor; wear sneakers and don't bring your drink into the mosh pit, you're in for a treat.

First UK shows in years

These upcoming Brixton Academy shows mark his first UK live dates in years.

In 2015 the rapper was stopped from entering the country by then home secretary Theresa May, claiming his lyrics encouraged ‘violence and intolerance of homosexuality’.

He was then unable to complete appearances at Reading and Leeds Festivals and the UK leg of his Cherry Bomb tour due to the ban.

Last weekend he was supposed to play a surprise gig in Peckham but it had to be pulled due to huge overcrowding issues.

So his return to London is expected to be popular and tickets in high demand.

They go on sale at 10am from Ticketmaster here or See Tickets here or Ticketweb here .

Welcome to our live blog where we’ll be updating you with everything you need to know about Tyler, The Creator tickets for his O2 Brixton Academy shows.

Tyler, The Creator makes a triumphant return to the UK

By Olive Pometsey

Image may contain Clothing Apparel Coat Overcoat Human Person Aaron Hall Raincoat and Suit

When Theresa May resigned from her role as prime minister earlier this year, there was one celebrity response that elicited more excitement than most. "Theresa gone, I'm back," penned Tyler, The Creator to his eight million Twitter followers, to the tune of 131,000 likes. In 2015, the rapper had been banned from entering the UK by the then home secretary, for offensive music he had released in 2009. But just days before May's resignation, he'd returned to London to announce a last-minute, surprise show in Peckham via a selfie of him stood outside Buckingham Palace. Crowds swarmed to the gig's venue, Virgil Abloh apparently got caught in the mob, and then the police shut the whole operation down. Organising spontaneous comeback shows is apparently a little trickier when you have millions of fans who have been waiting to see you perform live for four years. Not long after, in a bizarre moment of cultural and political serendipity, Tyler announced that he would be playing three dates at Brixton Academy in September, sold them out, and May tearfully handed over the responsibility of Brexit to someone else. GIFs of the ex-prime minister's awkward dance moves soon spread across Twitter like wildfire.

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Whether he liked it or not, it felt as though much of the energy at his opening night at Brixton Academy was fuelled by his audience's political angst, as thousands of fans armed with bumbags piled into the show ready to mosh and shout some bad words at the top of their lungs. It didn't take much to set them off. Flickers of movement behind the silver curtain that served as his first backdrop incited the kind of isolated squeals that you'd expect to hear at a blockbuster boyband stadium concert, and when he finally emerged on stage and stood still, hunched over in a yellow suit, to perform "Igor's Theme", the crowd's word-perfect sing-a-long was almost as impressive as Tyler's ability to switch between moods and personas. One moment he'd be motionless, limp with indifference as he embodied the "Igor" protagonist of his latest album, the next he'd be flailing around the stage in a manner that looked as though it would be working every muscle group.

It took only one song before the crowd started to shout, "Fuck Theresa May!" – a chant that has been encouraged by Slowthai at his own gigs over the past year – in response to Tyler saying, "Looondooon, must have been four years or some shit." He stood there, dead still once more, grunting occasionally as the audience's antihero assistant Igor while the chant enveloped the entire venue. "I got three nights of this shit, huh?" was his eventual response, before he launched into "I Think". Later, when he referenced the two albums he released during his ban, Cherry Bomb and Flower Boy , the crowd instinctively booed. "It's cool now, we're past that," he reassured his fans. The boos for May faded out, but did not disappear entirely.

Image may contain Stage Dance Pose Leisure Activities Human Person Clothing and Apparel

Although he didn't perform any material from Bastard , the mixtape that was cited as the reason behind his ban from the UK, Tyler, The Creator did not shy away from the kind of risqué work that has put him at the centre of controversies over the years. His 2011 track "Yonkers" received one of the biggest cheers of the evening, as the crowd gleefully relished the opportunity to threaten to "stab Bruno Mars in his goddamn esophagus" as loud as they could. Still, offset by some of his more recent, softer work on Flower Boy and Igor, these moments only felt like small pockets of aggression within the set. Lightning visuals and the harsh blue lights of sirens would occasionally illuminate the stage and the crowd would rage but, before long, everything returned to pastel hues for songs like "See You Again". At times, Tyler would even substitute frantically throwing his body around for a moonwalk across the stage.

By the end of the set, Tyler's apathetic persona began to wear away and he thanked his lawyers and "everyone who helped [him] get in tonight" for, one can assume, facilitating his return to the UK. "It's been four fucking years since they let my black skin in here," he said, having previously stated that he believes Theresa May's ban was racially motivated. A lot can happen in four years, as the UK now knows, and Tyler's musical evolution over that time was what stood out the most at the show. Threatening and vulnerable, manic and then controlled, Tyler, The Creator affirmed himself as one of the most complex and interesting rappers working today. Patience is a virtue and, for his legion of fans in Brixton last night, good things came to those who had long awaited his return. Theresa's gone, Tyler's back and, if you can get your hands on a ticket, there's still two more opportunities to see him perform while he's in the UK. Is it just me, or does the sun seem to be shining a little bit brighter today?

Tyler The Creator Reveals His Rambunctious Plans For His First UK Tour Since His Ban Was Lifted

Aaron Williams

Tyler The Creator has some thoughts about returning to England this week for his first UK show in four years and shared them with The Face in a new profile. When asked about what he was excited to do when he arrived, he said: “I’m going to f*ck some people.” He also shared his thoughts about the ban itself and the person who initially administered it: “That was then. I’m back in the UK. What now?”

Tyler was banned from the island nation in 2015 due to some of the lewd, rambunctious content of his early work, which then-Prime Minister Theresa May took issue with. Earlier this year, Tyler gloated over May’s resignation but was forced to cancel a surprise show promoting his new album Igor after police cited safety issues with the venue. Now that his Igor tour is taking a swing around Europe — although, presumably, not through Sweden — he’ll have a chance to interact with his British fans. Apparently, they should bring prophylactics.

Tyler was also quick to undermine fan theories throughout the profile, making fun of reporters who ask for the “deeper meanings” behind his aesthetic choices. “Everyone on Reddit and the message boards with their theories… it’s f*cking weird! You be yourself, do your f*cking thing, but no, it’s nothing at all.”

Igor is out now via Columbia Records. Get it here .

Other acts set to headline this year’s edition of the annual Chicago Music Fest include Future x Metro Boomin , Stray Kids , Melanie Martinez , and Skrillex . Lollapalooza will be returning to its home of Grant Park from August 1 through 4.

The likes of NME Cover alumnus Been Stellar , Geese , and The Last Dinner Party are also set to perform alongside Deftones , Tate McRae , Laufey (performing with the Chicago Philharmonic), Conan Grey , Reneé Rapp , Faye Webster , Victoria Monét , Sexyy Red , Teddy Swims, Benson Boone, Jungle , Two Door Cinema Club , Killer Mike , Vince Staples , Four Tet , Kevin Abstract , Ethel Cain , Chappell Roan , Teeze Touchdown, Kenny Beats , The Japanese House , Romy , Flo , Cults, Slow Pulp , Militarie Gun , Fleshwater, Wisp, and more.

The pre-sale will commence on Thursday March 21 from 10am until 12pm CT (3am GMT to 5am GMT). Prices will increase at 12pm CT (5am GMT) on March 21 as soon as public on-sale begins.

Single day tickets, along with the line up-by-day will be available at a later date. Kids eight and under will be able to attend for free with a ticketed adult and enjoy Kidzapalooza, an interactive music playground within the festival featuring a lineup of family-friendly performances, activities, music, and dance workshops and more.

In a five-star review of Lollapalooza 2023 , NME shared: “But even in the midst of acts giving their best at the festival, there’s still an undercurrent of imperfection that makes it all approachable and real. Lollapalooza isn’t trying to be anything it’s not, and by returning each year with a new plan to prioritise diversity in sound as well as a steadfast dedication to highlighting fresh acts (like on its BMI stage, where up-and-coming acts like Annie DiRusso and Beauty School Dropout are met with fans who sing along to every single word) the festival proves its dedication to just putting the music first, and the fans Lollapalooza draws in mirror that effort.”

Tyler, the Creator attends a party to celebrate the launch of his Louis Vuitton capsule collection at the Beverly Hills store on March 21, 2024

Tyler, the Creator says Pharrell Williams has always left doors open for him, and that gesture of goodwill has led the multi-hyphenate to Louis Vuitton for a new capsule collection that debuted on Thursday.

Tyler, the Creator was also on the scene that night in Paris, and the items he helped design for this spring 2024 men’s collection are said to be an extension of Williams’ “preppy and dandy” vision for the house that he’s been rolling out ever since. Tyler has been in business with Louis Vuitton before — he composed a soundtrack for the fall-winter menswear show in 2022 — but this marks his first outing as designer. Per Louis Vuitton, his signature touches include a craggy monogram hand-drawn by Tyler, the Creator, and representations of daisies and Airedale Terriers hidden within LV flowers.

Items in the collection include a cotton aviator jacket with monogram fleece collar ($3,300), an embroidered varsity jacket ($6,250), tailored chino pants ($1,220), a handle trunk ($11,100), damier printed hooded anorak ($3,050), an embroidered raincoat ($4,550), a monogram printed short-sleeved silk shirt ($1,840) and matching shorts ($1,590), and monogram denim dungarees ($3,550), jacket ($3,300) and pants ($2,080).

On Thursday night, March 21, Tyler, the Creator was the guest of honor for a party at Louis Vuitton’s men’s store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, where two Louis Vuitton specialists were hand-painting monogram luggage with some of his designs. The house’s collaborator attended with his mom and welcomed guests including celebrities Steven Yeun, Barry Keoghan, Jaden Smith, Donald Glover, model Julez Smith Jr. and singer Peso Pluma.

“Tyler has been my close friend and collaborator for years and we’ve always connected on music and design. This collaboration is unique to Louis Vuitton because it’s a natural extension of our LVERS philosophy, building on our network of incredible artists and creatives,” Williams said in a statement released on Thursday. “There are so many elements specific to Tyler built into these pieces and it’s been inspiring to see him hone in on his craft and collaborate with him for this Spring collection.”
