The Best Time to Visit Bali for Every Activity

Bali seasons, explained — these are the best times to visit the island, whether you're coming for the beaches, hiking, or festivals.

Since 1971, Travel + Leisure editors have followed one mission: to inform, inspire, and guide travelers to have deeper, more meaningful experiences. T+L's editors have traveled to countries all over the world, having flown, sailed, road tripped, and taken the train countless miles. They've visited small towns and big cities, hidden gems and popular destinations, beaches and mountains, and everything in between. With a breadth of knowledge about destinations around the globe, air travel, cruises, hotels, food and drinks, outdoor adventure, and more, they are able to take their real-world experience and provide readers with tried-and-tested trip ideas, in-depth intel, and inspiration at every point of a journey.

Bali is a magical destination with so much to offer, from the jungle surrounding Ubud (largely considered Bali's cultural center) to the beaches lining its southern shore.

You can make your Bali vacation whatever you want it to be — a tour of the island's many temples, a spiritual journey to learn more about Hinduism, a yoga retreat, a luxury hotel immersion, a hiking adventure, or a stop on a longer trip around Indonesia. You might even want to visit Bali specifically for one of the many festivals or spiritual celebrations hosted each year.

Bali has a tropical climate with average temperatures hovering between around 75 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit year-round. Its two seasons are defined as dry (April to October) and wet (November to March). Here's a general breakdown of Bali's tourist seasons:

  • High Seasons:  June to August and November to December
  • Shoulder Seasons:  April to May and September to October
  • Low Season:  January to March

Below, we've mapped out the best times to go to Bali, depending on how you want to spend your vacation.

Michela Buttignol/Travel+Leisure

Best Times to Visit Bali for Smaller Crowds

January to March is Bali's true off-season. These months can be humid and rainy, which means you won't find crowds in search of perfect beach weather and diving conditions. And because you'll also be avoiding the biggest holiday months (November and December), you'll find the island to be calm and populated by locals and expats.

While the rain brings mosquitos and may take activities like diving and surfing off the table, it's not a deal-breaker if you're in Bali to tour temples, practice yoga, and find pure relaxation. In fact, you might find that the peaceful rain in the Ubud forest adds to the overall serenity of your experience. The jungle and rice paddies thrive in this season — and the magnificent green color and sprouting vegetation are worth seeing.

Best Times to Visit Bali for Good Weather

Sunseekers should time their trip with Bali's dry season, which runs from April to October. During this period, humidity and rain decrease, creating ideal conditions for visiting beaches, surfing, scuba diving, and snorkeling. It still rains during these months, especially in April, May, and October, but showers are usually short and followed by clear skies. May is one of the hottest months, with an average high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit.

For the best weather, visit during July and August, the peak of the dry season. With less humidity, these months feel cooler, with an average temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit, so they're perfect for enjoying a mix of active adventures and beach time. Those coming to Bali to catch some legendary waves should also aim to visit during the dry season, with June to August bringing larger swells to the main surf spots along the southwest coast.

Best Times to Visit Bali for Lower Prices

The busiest and most expensive time in Bali is during the dry season, with hotel prices peaking between June and September. Tourism also sees a boost during the holidays, so you can expect higher hotel prices in November and December.

The most affordable time to visit Bali is from January through March, the rainy-season months that fall outside of the festive season. Hotel prices during this time tend to be lower due to the lack of demand, making it possible to score ocean-view rooms or multi-bedroom villas for a fraction of the price you would pay during the dry season. You may also find deals during the quiet shoulder season months, April and October.

Best Months for Hiking in Bali

If you're traveling to Bali specifically to hike, visiting between April and October is ideal, as the rainy season can cause trails to be muddy and slippery. For those planning to do some waterfall hikes, the best time to visit Bali is in April, May, and June, when the cascades are strong following the wet season, and the days are more likely to be sunny. Hikers who rent motorbikes will also have an easier time zipping around the island during the dry season since the roads can become treacherous in the rain.

Best Time to Hike Mount Batur

Mount Batur is perhaps the most iconic Bali hike. Typically, you'll book through a tour company that will pick you up from your hotel at about 2 a.m. for the 1,717-meter (5,633-foot) trek. You'll summit the active volcano as the sun rises, and depending on your guide, you may even be treated to eggs boiled in the volcanic steam at the top of Mount Batur. The two-hour hike to the summit is best done between May and September to ensure dry weather and clear views.

Best Times to Visit Bali for Festivals

One of the most iconic annual events in Bali is the Bali Arts Festival, which occurs in June and July. Indonesian Independence Day (or Hari Merdeka) falls on August 17 and is commemorated with parades and outdoor celebrations. Keep in mind that if you're traveling for a Hindu celebration, Balinese Hindus often celebrate different holidays than Hindus in India. Galungan, for example, is an important 10-day celebration of the triumph of good over evil (dharma over adharma) that occurs every 210 days according to the Balinese Pawukon calendar. Nyepi, a day of silence, fasting, and meditation before the New Year, typically takes place in March.

Best Months to Visit the Beach in Bali

May to September is the best time to visit Bali for a classic beach vacation. Days tend to be hot, sunny, and dry, creating ideal conditions for snorkeling, diving, and other water sports. However, the drawback of visiting Bali during this period is that most of these months fall within the peak season. The temples, beaches, hotels, and yoga classes will be crowded, so it's likely you won't have as many opportunities to soak up that sweet Balinese serenity you're treated to in the low season.

Worst Times to Visit Bali

Of course, those looking for a quintessential Bali vacation with plenty of sunshine and outdoor activities will want to avoid the rainy season (especially during the wettest months, December and January). At this time of year, it's common to experience choppy seas, muddy trails, and afternoon storms, which can quite literally put a damper on your plans. However, travelers looking to spend their days practicing yoga, visiting temples, or enjoying cultural experiences indoors may prefer the quieter atmosphere.

Due to higher levels of precipitation, mosquitos can be particularly prolific in the rainy season and the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses (like dengue fever) increases accordingly. If you do plan to visit during the wet season, bug repellant is a must-have on your pack list — especially when hiking in the jungle. Some locals also drink lemongrass tea, which is believed to be a natural insect repellent.

November is the beginning of the rainy season in Bali. Fortunately, much of the rainfall in November is at night. But things dry up pretty quickly. Also, it’s not as rainy as January or February.

The Best Places to Visit in Bali in November

November is not such a good month for visiting Bali's islands and watersports or for adventurous outdoor activities. Make the most of the sunny times , but avoid getting caught out by the weather. Here are some of the most suitable places for you to go during your visit to Bali in November.

1. Seminyak for Beach Time with Resort Retreats

If you go to the beach in rainy season, it is good to have cafes, restaurants, and your resort/hotel to retreat to when the rain comes. Seminyak has all of these, being the best beach resort area in Bali . It's also great for night life, better enjoyed in this hotter time of year.

There are plenty of things to do around the beach when the weather allows: swimming in permitted areas , surfing — beginners' at Petitenget, intermediate at Seminyak Beach, advanced at Echo Beach, sunset watching , and even horse riding .

And there's lots to do when the clouds gather and the showers blow in: Seminyak is one of the best areas for spas , seafood restaurants , trendy cafés , and cooking classe s.

2. The Jatiluwih Rice Terraces for Mirror-Like Tiers

November could be a good month to visit the World Heritage rice terraces at Jatiluwih, as they will begin to fill up with water after the first of the wet season rains. The coils of reflecting fields in the sunlight of the southern hemisphere summer are a sight to behold by mid-November . Palm trees and jungle on the mountainside provide shade and fresh greenery in the scenery.

The only November drawback for terraced field exploration is that paths become muddy after rain. Wear good walking footwear. The roads out from Ubud should still be in ok condition for the 2-hour journey in November.

3. Learn Balinese Cooking and Culture in Ubud

For rainy days you'll need some activities that will be less/un-affected by the weather. Ubud is the cultural capital of Bali with its art market and Royal Palace , and it is the best place to find a Balinese chef ready to teach you the ways of Balinese cuisine .

You would typically go out to a local market, experiencing first-hand the day-to-day local life, buy your fresh ingredients, then prepare them with expert guidance before eating your tasty creations.

4. Enter into Local Spiritual Culture at Tirta Empul Temple

It's always nicer to visit a temple in the sun, especially if one of its highlights is the sunset views, like at Uluwatu. Tirta Empul ('Holy Water Spring') Temple is one that can be visited even on a cloudy day, but rain would affect your visit, so try to avoid that.

It's only half an hour outside Ubud . Sarong hire is required at the entrance, and this is another part of stepping into the local culture.

Pura Tirta Empul's focal point is the Hindu cleansing pool where worshipers dip under the 30 spouts of water in turn . Clouds do nothing to dull the pious atmosphere of the crowds of local worshipers and interested onlookers. It's best visited with a local guide who can explain its traditions and what is going on.

Less Crowding and Cost in November in Bali

There is some pleasant weather in Bali in November, but it is definitely an off-season month , with corresponding price reductions. If you don't mind the humidity and moderate rain on one of every two days, then November could be your chance to enjoy Bali at a lower price.

Suggested read: How to Plan a Trip to Bali

Pack light, cool, quick-drying clothing. An umbrella will be handy to provide shelter from showers and sun. Sandals and cool, breathable footwear are generally recommended.

UV levels will be high, so pack plenty of sun cream, a sunhat, and good sunglasses. Insect/mosquito repellent may be required, especially in evenings and rural areas.

For Bali's Hindu temples and religious sites, bring some light longer clothing to cover arms and legs, which will also help to protect you from the sun and mosquitoes.

For hiking on rural (hillside terrace) paths comfortable walking shoes with a good grip are recommended.

is it good to visit bali in november

We made a private tour through South China in January 2024. Altogether Chengdu was the highlight. We had an incredible day at Emeishan. In Chengdu our guidewas Helen. She was the diamond of all. Speaking fluently English, full of interesting stories, laughing and talking all the time. We missed her the rest of our tour. We highly recommend to go to Chengdu for 3 days when visiting China, especially with Helen.

is it good to visit bali in november

Other highlights are too many to mention but here are a few Ken taking us to the Terracotta Warriors and our food tour in Xian was amazing,

Our day volunteering at the Panda Base was truly unforgettable. Helen, our guide, provided us with invaluable insights about Chengdu and the pandas, enriching our tour with her knowledge and expertise. We're grateful to Helen for accompanying us throughout the day and showcasing the highlights of China.

We had a booking with China Highlights through Silvia Ye who guarenteed a perfect organisation. In Chengdu our guide was Helen. She was the diamond of all. Speaking fluently English, full of interesting stories, laughing and talking all the time. We missed her the rest of our tour. We highly recommend to go to Chengdu for 3 days when visiting China, especially with Helen.

We traveled to China during the Chinese new year and we had Kris as our guide and he is simply knowledgeable, helpful and great.

We visited Guilin for 2 days and stayed in the Guilin Waterfall hotel. Guilin was absolutely beautiful! Our guide, William, was very knowledgeable and kind! He taught us so much about Guilin and the surrounding area! We really enjoyed trying the specialty rice noodles of Guilin. Our highlight was the Li river cruise.

Amazing tour and the guide Mr. 贺霄 was very accommodating with our needs and request as we have bought our 2 years old with us. Well explained for all the place we visited. Any additional cost were informed well ahead and didn't felt any pressure if we opt not to go for additional detour. The trip was relaxing/ laid back/no rushing with zero shopping!

We had an amazing to China. Our tour guide Martin in Shanghai was super knowledgeable, caring and very flexible with our itinerary. When my wife got sick in the Shanghai, he was able to arrange an English-speaking doctor on the spot and took us to the clinic. On top of the that, Martin and the driver stayed with us at the clinic for the whole duration and drove us back to the hotel afterwards. His genuine concern for our welfare and willingness to go the extra mile did not go unnoticed, and we were deeply touched by his kindness and compassion.

Guilin, but mostly Yangshuo was at the tail end of our China adventure so there was a lot to live up to. Having a guide like Gary Wei meant that our trip ended on a high! We arrived in Guilin very late from an 11 hour train journey. Gary met us with gifts of fruit, sweet bread and cakes which was so unexpected and thoughtful.Gary's knowledge of the area was exceptional and his attention to us the same. He really took our children under his wing - even tuning in to annoying sibling rivalry and managing to keep the peace very well! Gary was our personal photographer at times and even our Taiji instructor, making a beautiful video of us all doing Taiji in a scenic setting :)The cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo is definitely worth taking and we enjoyed our few nights in the area, riding bikes along the river, doing a cooking class and enjoying the scenery

While December is also a rainy month in Bali, the Christmas holiday draws a larger number of visitors. So, the best time to visit Bali in the low season if you want to avoid the crowds is in January and February.

Bali Weather By Month

To help you better understand the best and worst time to visit Bali, let’s look at what the weather is like month by month.

is it good to visit bali in november

Bali’s Rainy Season

Bali’s rainy season is often considered the worst time to go to Bali. That being said, you shouldn’t discount this period completely. Here is what you need to know:

Weather in Bali in November

In November, the rainy season in Bali begins and the weather is typically very hot and muggy with some sunny days. Average temperatures range from 23°C (73°F) to 31°C (88°F) and November brings afternoon showers and storms around 50% of the time. Pack an umbrella and wet weather gear if you’re going out.

Weather in Bali in December

The weather in December in Bali is even wetter with an average of 358mm this month; but, there’s still quite a lot of sun. Average temperatures are warm with lows of 23°C (73°F) and highs of 31°C (88°F).

Weather in Bali in January

Bali in January is warm, humid, and often sunny; but, it’s the wettest month of the year. Storms and showers are common, especially in the afternoon, and it’s considered one of the worst times to visit Bali for a beach vacation. There’s still lots of sun in January and average temperatures range from lows of 23°C (73°F) to highs of 31°C (88°F).

Weather in Bali in February

Bali in February is the rainy season and tends to be wet — although there’s usually slightly less rain than in January, and lots of sun between the rain showers. The weather is hot and humid with average temperatures ranging from lows of 23°C (73°F) to highs of 31°C (88°F).

Weather in Bali in March

March in Bali is hot, rainy, and humid. Afternoon showers bring some respite from the heat, but overall temperatures are warm throughout March with lows of 23°C (73°F) to highs of 31°C (88°F). Additionally, there’s a 77% chance of clouds in the sky.

Weather in Bali in April

April is the beginning of the dry season and there’s less rain than in the previous months. Average temperatures are slightly cooler with highs of 29°C (84°F) and lows of 23°C (73°F).

Bali’s Dry Season

Bali’s dry season is typically considered the best time to go to Bali. Here is what you need to know to plan your trip:

Weather in Bali in May

In my opinion, this is the best month to visit Bali, along with June, as it’s the shoulder season. With around 8 hours of sunshine every day, the weather in Bali in May is perfect for the beach. Although there is a possibility of some light rain, maximum temperatures are warm with highs of 29°C (84°F) and lows of 23°C (73°F).

Weather in Bali in June

June in Bali brings more great beach weather with sunny skies and low rainfall. Average maximum temperatures reach 30°C (86°F) and lows of 22°C (72°F). June is a beautiful time in Bali. It’s slightly cooler and there’s less humidity.

Weather in Bali in July

Now let’s discuss visiting Bali in July . July is high season and one of the best months to visit Bali for warm, sunny beach weather and clear skies. There’s very little rain in July and temperatures are a little cooler, ranging from 22°C (72°F) to 29°C (84°F).

Weather in Bali in August

August in Bali brings warm, sunny days and low rainfall. It’s ideal beach weather with even less rainfall than July and similar temperatures ranging from 22°C (72°F) to 29°C (84°F).

Weather in Bali in September

September in Bali brings slightly warmer, sunny weather with the possibility of light showers. Average temperatures in September range from lows of 22°C (72°F) to highs of 30°C (86°F).

Weather in Bali in October

The weather in Bali in October tends to be a bit wetter than in September with more afternoon showers. Temperatures are slightly higher from 23°C (73°F) to 31°C (88°F) and there’s more humidity in the air.

Visiting Bali During The Dry Season

From May to October is Bali’s dry season. Temperatures are slightly cooler, and the weather is typically warm and sunny with little rain.

The dry season is the best time to visit Bali for a beach holiday and for outdoor activities like diving, surfing, and hiking; but, it’s the worst time to travel to Bali if you want to avoid the crowds or you’re on a budget.

Bali dry season: pros

  • The weather is at its best during the dry season and it’s perfect beach weather.  There’s little rain and slightly cooler temperatures with less humidity.
  • Seas are calmer and water visibility is good for snorkeling and diving.
  • Dry weather is ideal for hiking and outdoor activities . It’s the perfect time to explore the island on a motorbike.
  • The dry season is the “on season” for surfing , with good swells and the best conditions. This is also a great time to book a Bali yoga surf retreat , a popular experience blending outdoor adventure with wellness.

Bali dry season: cons

  • July and August are the high season and crowds of tourists flock to Bali’s beaches. Cafés, pubs, and tourist attractions can be very busy.
  • Accommodation, flights, and tours are often more expensive at this time of year.

Places to go during Bali’s dry season

Ubud and Bali’s west coast beaches tend to be crowded in the drier months. It’s the peak season for tourists and it’s a good time to escape to the mountains and to less visited parts of the island like Lovina, Amed , Tirta Gangga , and Sideman.

The dry season is the best time for visiting the islands near Bali like Nusa Lembongan , Nusa Penida, Lombok , and the lovely Gili Islands . The sea is calmer at this time of year and it’s a safer and more comfortable time to travel by ferry.

Things to do during Bali’s dry season

  • Enjoy Bali’s beautiful beaches with swimming, surfing, and sunbathing.
  • The dry season brings calm clear water with good visibility for diving and snorkeling.
  • Hike to the top of Mount Agung or Mount Batur at sunrise for spectacular views of the active volcano and its surroundings. If you have at least 7 days in Bali , this is a must, though if doing Mount Agung you should allot more like 2 weeks in Bali to allow for a few additional recovery days (since it’s the island’s highest peak).
  • Bali’s many beautiful waterfalls are fun to visit at any time of year. If you enjoy hiking, here are some of the top waterfall trails .
  • Ride a motorbike or a scooter to get around.
  • Temple visits are a great introduction to Bali’s rich local culture at any time of year.
  • Enjoy Bali’s famous cafes and beach clubs and beach sunsets.
  • Attend seasonal annual events like the Bali Arts Festival in June/July, the Nusa Dua Light Festival in July, and the Bali Arts Festival in July to October.

Things to pack for Bali’s dry season

For Bali in the dry season, pack lightweight cotton clothes, shorts, and a swimsuit. A long-sleeved shirt, sarong, and sandals are a good idea for visiting temples and long pants will offer some protection on a motorbike.

Balinese people dress modestly, so it’s best to cover your shoulders and knees, especially if you’re visiting less touristy parts of the island. Shorts, swimwear, and tank tops are fine to wear on the beach.

Bali is too hot for jeans so it’s best to leave them at home.

Visiting Bali During The Rainy Season: Pros & Cons

The wet season, from November to April, is still a good time to visit Bali if you don’t mind some rain.

Although there’s more wet weather at this time of year, the sun still shines quite a lot, and the rain tends to come in afternoon showers and storms that feel refreshing in the hot weather.

The wet season is a time when the island is lush, green, and less crowded. It’s also a cheaper time to visit, and you can take advantage of the many fun things to do in Bali besides hanging out on the beach.

In the rainy season, the worst month to visit Bali is December. Not only is December one of the wettest months, but it’s also very popular with visitors over the Christmas holidays — making it a busier and more expensive time to travel to Bali.

Personally, I went to Bali in January and had a great time with minimal disruption from the weather. And, even at the height of the wet season, I found plenty of fun things to do when the weather wasn’t perfect.

Bali rainy season: pros

  • Bali is lush and green at this time of year and the rice terraces are beautiful.
  • Bali’s many waterfalls are spectacular in the wet season, particularly the waterfalls in Ubud . Here is a list of beautiful waterfall trails if you enjoy hiking — just make sure to bring a raincoat and waterproof backpack!
  • There are fewer tourists , meaning it’s quieter on the beaches and entrance queues are shorter or non-existent at temples and attractions.
  • Accommodation is cheaper . Some of the larger hotels and resorts offer discounted rates in the low season.
  • Airfares are lower at this time of the year. This makes it especially popular for backpackers and those traveling solo in Bali who don’t have others to split the costs with.

Bali rainy season: cons

  • Unpredictable weather can make it hard to plan your daily itinerary. You’ll definitely want to have a backup plan for outdoor activities.
  • There is more rain, and afternoon showers and storms are common.
  • The weather is hot and the humidity is high.
  • The rainy season is the worst time to visit Bali for outdoor activities like hiking and it’s no fun being caught in a storm when riding a motorbike.
  • Seas are choppy and long ferry trips are best avoided.
  • Stormy weather causes poorer water visibility for snorkeling and diving.
  • Beaches can be dirtier , as more garbage washes up on the shore at this time of year.

Places to go in Bali’s rainy season

The wet season is the best time to visit the popular west coast beach areas like Kuta , Seminyak , and Canggu if you want to avoid the crowds in the busier months.

It’s also the best time to holiday in Ubud for the same reason. Yoga classes, cafes, and restaurants are less crowded, and Bali’s luxurious spa s sometimes offer discounts at this time of year.

Things to do in Bali’s rainy season

There’s no shortage of fun things to do in Bali if the weather isn’t perfect. Here are some suggestions. Just always make sure to check the weather forecast before leaving your hotel room!

  • Chasing waterfalls is one of the best things to do in the rainy season. Bali’s many waterfalls are spectacular at this time of year and it’s the best time to visit Munduk’ s stunning Banyu Wana and Banyumala Twin Falls . You can swim in the gorgeous plunge pool at the base of these incredible waterfalls.
  • Stroll through the verdant green fields at Tegallalang Rice Terrace near Ubud or the UNESCO world heritage listed Jatiluwih Rice Terraces in Central Bali.
  • Visit Bali’s sacred water temples and discover the fascinating spiritual side of Balinese culture. Take a cleansing bath in the Holy Springs at Tirta Empul Temple and enjoy the stunning coastal scenery of the popular Tanah Lot and Uluwatu Temples .
  • Watch a gorgeous sunset at Kuta Beach. The dramatic skies of the rainy season make stunning sunsets and Bali’s west coast is the perfect place to relax on the beach and watch the sunset over the water.
  • Enjoy a cocktail at Azul Bali — Legian’s leading beach club — or Finns in Canggu. There are many popular beach clubs to choose from.
  • Indulge in a luxurious massage and a Bali flower bath at one of the island’s many spas.
  • Take a cooking class and immerse yourself in the local cuisine. Learn how to make delicious sate skewers and traditional peanut sauce.
  • Wind down with yoga and meditation at one of Bali’s many yoga schools. The Yoga Barn in Ubud is one of the best known; but there are yoga classes, retreats, and teacher training courses all over the island. Here is a list of top-rated Bali yoga retreats .

Things to pack for Bali in the rainy season

Pack an umbrella — like this compact windproof one — and wet weather gear for visiting Bali in the rainy season in case it downpours when you’re out or riding a motorbike.

Just note that the weather is still warm, so to stay dry you’ll want a raincoat that is breathable — like this lightweight option that comes in numerous colors and patterns.

You might also consider investing in a waterproof backpack, like this one , or lining your backpack with heavy-duty garbage bags to protect your gear while you’re out exploring. This is especially helpful if you’ll be bringing a camera.

Bali in November

is it good to visit bali in november

November falls during the beginning of the wet season. The temperatures are warm and the heavy downpour usually lasts during late evening and night. But you might also be lucky and experience only sunny whether when you visit Bali in November. Temperatures range between 25C (avg low) and 30C (avg high).

>>read more about the Weather in Bali

Since you’ll be traveling during the low season, the airfare is typically cheaper but it’s a good idea to book slightly in advance. It’s also easy to book an affordable hotel room and the budget travelers will probably prefer a hostel .

Things to do

Unless you want to do mountain climbing or biking, the November weather shouldn’t interferer with your plans. You can spend the day soaking up the sun. Sure, it’s just as possible to be not so lucky and catch some cloudy days while in Bali. But, when that happens, you can check out the sights, the temples, pay a visit to the shopping mall or enjoy some relaxing spa treatments.

It’s possible to practice all water sports, so don’t be shy and try snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking and canoeing, among others. November is still a good month for surfing in Bali.

Best Time to Visit Bali: Month by Month Breakdown

Bali is one of the most popular islands in Southeast Asia, and deciding the best time to visit Bali is going to affect not only the weather you experience but also how many other tourists are there with you.

Like most of tropical Indonesia, Bali only really has two seasons throughout the year, the dry season and the wet season.

All year-round, it’s hot, and for many, Bali can be visited any time of the year, but between November and March, you can expect downpours most days during the wet season.

April to October is the dry season and you can expect larger crowds and higher prices but the weather will be perfect.

Often, the best time to visit Bali is a trade-off between the weather and the number of visitors.

To help you to plan your trip, here’s our guide on the best time to visit Bali.

Don’t leave home without: Lonely Planet Indonesia (Country Guide)

Table of Contents

Bali Dry Season

LIna Stock of Divergent Travelers enjoying a beach in Bali

The dry season is the best time to visit Bali when it comes to the weather because for half of the year you can expect beautiful clear skies and almost no rainfall.

The dry season in Bali runs from May to October, although this can vary each year. The peak months are the height of the Balinese winter, which is June, July, and August.

May in Bali

Mount Batur - Best time to visit Bali

May is the start of the official dry season in Bali, but you can still expect a mixed bag when it comes to the weather.

One year it could be raining all through May but the next it can be dry from as early as April.

If it does rain in May though it’s guaranteed to just be a few light showers, and this is the best time to visit before you hit the high season from June to August.

Prices will be lower in May and with the better weather, it’s a good time to start diving and snorkeling, as the water visibility clears up.

It’s getting cooler too and less humid, so a hike to the summit of Bali’s mysterious volcano, Mount Batur, can be a great activity in May, as you’ll miss the crowds and enjoy better conditions for hiking.

June in Bali

Uluwatu Temple Bali

June is the start of the high season in Bali, although it’s not quite as busy a month as July and August. The weather is likely to be perfect with temperatures averaging in the mid-twenties and humidity low.

You’ll have to be really unlucky to see even a light rain shower, so it’s a great time to hit up the beaches and make the most of the clear skies and sunshine.

Prices start to climb in June, but you’ll miss the worst of the high season which picks up towards the end of the month when the European summer holidays begin in earnest.

In June you should visit the more touristy attractions such as the famous temples in the south – Uluwatu for instance – or the increasingly popular Nusa Islands before the summer crowds make their appearance.

July in Bali

Beach in Bali, Indonesia

July is usually the busiest month to visit Bali, but for good reason, and that’s because you’ll be enjoying the best weather of the year.

But as well as enjoying sunny, clear skies and zero rain, you’ll be sharing the beaches and resorts with hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers. People flock here from Europe, America and more than anywhere else, from Australia.

Prices will be higher for flights and hotels, but if you do want to escape the crowds then head north.

This is a great time to experience a side of Bali that most miss, and by exploring the black sand beaches of Amed or the coast and jungle of Bali Barat National Park, you’ll see how the south of Bali was a few decades previously.

August in Bali

LIna Stock of Divergent Travelers Adventure Travel blog enjoying a luxury resort in Bali

Much like July, August is always super busy in Bali. The weather is again beautiful, with clear skies and sunny days, and it’s a great time for lounging on beaches and drinking cold Bintang Beers.

If you want to escape the holiday crowds though then plan a trip north, and visit the beautiful coastline in more rustic destinations such as Lovina or Amed, where tourism has only recently begun to develop.

There are great snorkeling and diving up north too, including some famous shipwrecks, and as it’s the height of the dry season the water will be beautifully clear.

September in Bali

Sunset with surfers in Kuta Bali

September can be the best time to visit Bali if you want a great mix of good weather and smaller crowds.

Things will still be busy and flights will be more expensive than the later shoulder season months. But you’ll save money compared to the true high season and have fewer people around when you explore touristy destinations such as Ubud, Kuta or the Nusa Islands.

October in Bali

Temple in Ubud Bali

October is a great shoulder season month, but the dry weather is coming to a close. There are more and more rainy days, but these can be unpredictable.

If you’re in Bali for two weeks, you’ll most likely have enough dry days to make the most of your visit.

Enjoy the south and the more traditional beach areas, get cultural in Ubud or escape to the north to see a wilder side of the island.

Bali Wet Season

Surfer in Bali

The wet season in Bali runs from November through to April, corresponding with the southern hemisphere summer and fall.

It’s tropical, and that means that while it does rain hard when it rains, showers and storms are brief but fierce.

The rainy season can be a great time to miss the crowds but give December and January a miss because these two months are still incredibly popular despite the wet weather.

November in Bali

Lina Stock of Divergent Travelers Adventure Travel blog at a luxury resort in Bali

November is when the rainy season starts in Bali, but just how much rain there will be, can vary.

You’ll have good odds of having lovely sunny days still, and it’s a great time to visit because you’ll miss the Christmas crowds who are just around the corner.

You can get wonderful deals on flights and hotels through November, and you’ll still be able to snorkel and dive before the water gets too cloudy from the rains.

It’s getting hotter, but take a trip to the summit of Mount Batur and you’ll be able to cool down after a challenging hike to the top of Bali’s iconic volcano.

December in Bali

Monkey of Monkey forest in Ubud Bali

December is usually the rainiest month of the year, and weather-wise, this really is not the best time to visit Bali.

The tourist crowds would beg to differ though because while you might get soaked, it’s also incredibly warm still.

That draws over the Christmas crowds seeking winter sun from Europe and North America , and it still brings over the Aussie crowds looking for a cheap getaway.

It’s a lively time to be in Bali, and it’s not a bad place at all to spend Christmas and New Year, but be prepared for high prices and lots of other travelers and tourists.

January in Bali

Boat on a beach in Bali

January can be just as busy as December and unfortunately, just as rainy. This is the height of the wet season, but again, it doesn’t put off the crowds.

If you do visit, then the southern beaches and classic resort areas are best avoided. Head north instead, and find a bit more peace and quiet in the lesser-visited parts of Bali.

February in Bali

Waterfall Bali

In February, the weather starts to cool down slightly and the rainy days begin to disappear, but it’s still very much the wet season.

It’s a great shoulder season month, right after the Christmas crowds go home, and you can enjoy many of Bali’s best sights with fewer people around.

Head to the waterfalls, as they will be in their element, and the jungle will be lush and green from all the rainfall over the last few months.

March in Bali

Shoulder season in Bali - Street with no travelers

March can be a wet month or it can be a dry month, the weather gods in Bali are unpredictable this time of the year.

It will be a quiet month on the tourism front though and that makes it the best time to visit Bali if you’re a fan of shoulder season travel.

The Christmas and New Year crowds are long gone, and the dry season tourists are a few months away.

You can get great deals on flights and resorts if you book in advance, and you’ll find that lots of beach areas in the south such as Kuta, Seminyak or Canggu are quieter.

This is Bali though, so if you’re here for the social aspects then there are always other travelers around to hang out with.

April in Bali

Ubud rice terraces in April

April is a great shoulder month, but be careful of the Easter Holidays in Australia or Europe, as Bali becomes a popular holiday break destination during this time of the year.

You could enjoy almost all sunny days or conversely it could also rain a lot, but that’s the gamble in April as the rainy season draws to a close.

It’s the tail end of the wet season though and Bali will be blooming, making this a great month to visit the waterfalls and the rice paddies before they start to dry out again.

Visit Ubud for cultural festivals and then hike through the rice terraces nearby.

Best Time to Visit Bali: When to Go & When to Avoid!

Home » Blog » Travel Tips » Best Time to Visit Bali: When to Go & When to Avoid!

Bali makes an excellent destination for vacationers year-round. However, each season has unique draws and drawbacks. We’re going over exactly what to expect in each season to help you determine the best time to visit Bali for YOU!

Things to do in Bali Campuhan Ridge Walk

Bali technically sits below the equator in the southern hemisphere (exactly 8° south of the equator if you want to get precise). Which means the seasons are opposite those of the Northern Hemisphere.

However, Bali has a warm, tropical climate all year round. This means they don’t experience the same changing of the seasons like you would see in say  New Zealand .

Temperatures in Bali don’t fluctuate much throughout the year. The two distinct seasons in Bali are simply the rainy season and the dry season . Otherwise known as the busy tourism season, and the even busier tourism season.

This may sound pretty straight forward… you want to visit during the dry season right?? Well, we think the answer is just a bit more complicated than that.

There are pros and cons to visiting during both seasons and as with any destination, the weather is never as predictable as we’d like it to be.

So this begs the question…

When is the best time of year to visit Bali?

In short, you’ll have the best chance of comfortable weather during the peak of the dry season, June – August. We’d recommend to avoid visiting during the December holidays as not only is this peak rainy season, but crowds are also heavy.

Our personal pick would be to visit Bali during the shoulder months, May, June or September, to avoid the rain and the crowds. But more on that later…

Bali Beach Katie Diederichs

Truthfully, as with all questions of this nature, there is no correct answer. Bali makes an excellent destination for vacationers and digital nomads all year round. Each season has its own unique draws (and  drawbacks  too).

But fear not…

We’re going to go over the pros and cons of visiting Bali during each season to help you decide which time of year is ideal for YOU.

Answer these questions to get started:

  • Do you mind a bit of rain?
  • Are you easily bothered by crowds?
  • Are you negatively affected by high humidity?
  • Do you prefer to spend your time outdoors hiking and cycling?
  • Are you into water sports such as scuba diving or surfing?

Thinking about your answers to these questions is going to help you start to determine when to visit Bali.

Our experience in Bali

We’ve visited Bali for multiple month stretches during the the spring, summer & fall months

When: August (2015), mid-August – mid-November (2018), June – August (2019), March – April (2023)

Things to do in Bali harvesting rice

Our experience:

  • The rainy season was prolonged a bit further into April than usual in 2023, but the sun still came out daily
  • It was noticeably more humid in March than in April
  • Observing Neyepi (the Balinese day of silence) in Bali was an interesting experience as no one was allowed to leave the home and we couldn’t turn on the lights after dark (around 6:30 p.m.)

Would we recommend visiting Bali in spring?

Mostly, yes. As long as you don’t mind a bit of rain and humidity, visiting during the shoulder season means less crowds than in summertime. Most activities are enjoyable year round in Bali.

Things to do in Bali Aling Aling Waterfall

  • We experienced pretty dry, warm weather in the summer months with lots of sunshine
  • The ocean temperatures are warmer in the winter and spring than in the summertime
  • We were able to go scuba diving in Amed with just a shorty wetsuit
  • The popular tourist hubs like Canggu and Ubud are very busy during the summer and traffic can be quite chaotic

Would we recommend visiting Bali in the summer?

Yes! The weather in Bali is at its best during the summer months of the northern hemisphere. Even though the summer draws more crowds (mostly vacationers from Australia who are fleeing the winter down under), it’s worth it to experience the best weather possible.

Things to do in Bali Surfing

  • October is known as one of the last months of the dry season, with humidity building until the rainy season begins (typically November – April).
  • Personally, we didn’t notice the humidity getting much worse during our stay from August through November, and we don’t remember any rain during this period.
  • We had great weather, clear skies, and beachy temperatures during our stay.
  • We did leave Bali in mid-November (for a trip to New Zealand ), so we missed the rainy season.
  • It seemed that the fall crowds of foreigners were mainly digital nomads and expats, rather than people on vacation, which you’ll see more of in the summer months.

Would we recommend visiting Bali in the fall?

Yes, we’d recommend early fall. If possible, try to visit between September and early to mid-November so you can avoid the rainy season.

Uluwatu cliffs Bali

Bali is a small island in Southeast Asia between the Indian and the Pacific oceans. As one of the 17,000+ islands that make up the nation of Indonesia , Bali is commonly the most recognized and easily the most visited by tourists.

The volcanic island is made up of peaks, some of which rise over 3,000 meters (almost 10,000 ft high!). And some are still active. In fact, recent eruptions in the past few years have been known to cause flight delays and cancelations due to ash in the air.

Bali’s volcanic nature, combined with the mountain peaks that bring rain, contribute to it’s lush greenery and exceptional fertility . Rice is the most common crop grown on Bali and you’ll see evidence everywhere you go with terracing rice fields making beautiful backdrops in your photos.

Since Bali is so close to the equator, the daylight hours are pretty consistent year round . The longest day of the year is 12.5 hours and the shortest day of the year is 11.5 hours. This makes the sunrise and sunset pretty consistent around 6 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. daily.

Rice fields Bali

As we mentioned above, Bali predominantly has two distinct seasons: the rainy season and the dry season . Being in a tropical climate, humidity and precipitation are the only patterns that really change with the season. Daytime temperatures hover between mid-70s to mid-80s ( ° F) throughout the year.

At just about 3,500 sq. miles (5,632 km² to be exact), the island is fairly small and weather doesn’t vary much from coast to coast. However, the volcanic peaks that make up the center of the island will have consistently cooler temperatures and more rainfall than the lower coastal areas.

Stats on Bali weather & seasons:

  • Warmest month in Bali:  April
  • Coldest month in Bali:  August
  • Rainiest month in Bali:  January
  • Driest month in Bali:  August
  • Most crowded months in Bali:  April, June – August & December
  • Least crowded months in Bali:  September – November & January – February

Dry Season in Bali

Uluwatu Beach Bali

Temptation to escape the winter months in the southern hemisphere, combined with little rain and lower humidity in Bali makes the dry season a very crowded time to visit. The is particularly true for the winter months of June – August.

Accommodation can also be hard to come by with so many tourists on holiday, so it’s a good idea to book in advance if you plan to visit during Bali during this time of year.

Dry season months at a glance

Things to do in Bali Mount Batur Sunrise

April:  The island tends to see the warmest temps during April. The Easter holiday week is a busy time in Bali, but the rest of the month tends to see more “shoulder season” traffic.

  • Average daily temp: 77-94° F (25-34° C)

May:  Moving into the “shoulder season” for tourism, May is still very hot but humidity is going down.

  • Average daily temp: 75-92° F (24-33° C)

June:  The first month of the winter in the Southern hemisphere, and temperatures continue to drop. June is on the edge of “shoulder season” and peak tourism near the end of the month.

  • Average daily temp: 72-89° F (22-32° C)

July:  Tourism spikes during the month of July and prices for accommodation may jump as much as 50%. You should book accommodation early if you plan to visit during July as places tend to book up quickly.

  • Average daily temp: 73-87° F (23-31° C)

August:  Bali typically has coolest temperatures of the year during the month of August. The peak of tourism runs through August and accommodation prices stay as high as they were in July. Indonesian Independence Day is celebrated on Aug 17th.

  • Average daily temp: 72-85° F (22-29° C)

September:  Tourism drops off just a bit after August as September is the first month of the typical “shoulder season” in Bali.

  • Average daily temp: 73-89° F (23-32° C)

October:  Temperatures are beginning to rise, but it’s still fairly dry with less humidity. Crowds are slightly thinner during this month.

  • Average daily temp: 75-93° F (24-34° C)

Best places to visit during dry season in Bali

Nusa Penida Bali

  • Amed :  the popular diving region on Bali’s east coast, home to the famous USAT Liberty Shipwreck. Just a 2 hour drive from Denpasar.
  • Off-the-beaten-track destinations such as  Sideman : a 45 min drive from Ubud, beautiful laidback countryside filled with rolling hills and rice terraces
  • Get away to the nearby islands such as  Nusa Penida,  Lombok  (which includes the famous Gili Islands), or  Flores .

Best things to do during dry season in Bali

Things to do in Bali Countryside Bike Tour

  • The weather during dry season is ideal for outdoor activities like hiking, biking, sailing, etc.
  • Try a new water sport such as surfing or diving
  • Hike Mount Batur at sunrise
  • Do a bike tour of the Balinese country-side with  Ring a Bike Tour  (and be sure to tell Ring that Two Wandering Soles sent you!)
  • Bali Arts Festival (2nd Saturday of June – mid-July)
  • Bali Kites Festival (Jul-Aug)

Pros of visiting Bali during the dry season

  • Very little rain
  • Humidity is bearable
  • Mosquitoes/insects aren’t as big of a concern
  • Lots of festivals and events happening

Resort pool in Bali

Cons of visiting Bali during the dry season

  • Peak tourism season (particularly July/Aug)
  • Hotel prices spike in July/Aug
  • Traffic gets pretty crazy in Bali (all the time) but especially so in the major tourism areas such as Kuta and North Kuta during the high season. More tourists on the roads mean a higher chance for accidents from people driving in unfamiliar territory.
  • Major tourist attractions such as temples and parks will be very crowded

What to pack for Bali during the dry season

  • Good hiking/walking shoes (we recommend  Chacos sandals  as they are perfect for hiking, and lighter than hiking boots)
  • Reef safe sunscreen
  • Optional: Surfboard or diving gear

Rainy Season in Bali

During the rainy season in Bali, the weather is more inconsistent. Downpours can span for days, or dissipate after just an hour.

Temperatures are at their highest during this time of year in Bali and with the frequent precipitation comes high humidity as well. Insects, as we know, love humidity, so be prepared to fight off swarms of mosquitos!

Bali is pretty full of tourists all year round, however, this is technically “low season” for tourism because of the rain and humidity. Even during the rainy season though, you’re likely to get sunshine in between showers.

Rainy season months at a glance

Things to do in Bali Rent a Motorbike

November:  You may be tempted to beat the rising November heat by swimming, surfing or diving in Bali. However, it’s a good thing to keep in mind that the sea is usually roughest during November.

  • Average daily temp: 74-91° F (23-33° C)

December:  Bali is typically most crowded over the Christmas/New Years holidays. Prices will spike over the holidays as foreigners come to celebrate while on vacation. Accommodation over the holidays will be pricy and fill up fast. However, the rest of the month is relatively less crowded.

January:  The least crowded month in Bali, but also the month with the most rainfall. January typically sees very few days without at least a drizzle. That being said, even during rainy season, the skies dry out every once in a while.

February:  Between low and “shoulder season,” February is still quite hot and humid. However, with the frequent precipitation you’re likely to see slightly less tourists.

  • Average daily temp: 76-92° F (24-33° C)

March:  Crowds start building as it’s spring break in the northern hemisphere and people are starting to filter in for the dry season. Nyepi, the Balinese New Year, falls in March. It is important to be aware of this date because the Balinese Hindu people celebrate this day with a day of silence. For a full 24 hours, everyone (even tourists) is expected to remain indoors and no noise is permitted. Beaches and businesses are closed down for the day, including the international airport. So this will definitely affect your trip if you are planning to visit Bali in March.

Best places to visit during rainy season in Bali

Tanah Lot Bali

  • Tannah Lot Temple  – be sure to visit during low tide so you can walk out to the entrance of the temple and be blessed with the spring water that flows from the temple and is considered holy.
  • Uluwatu Temple  – Watch out for the moneys here! They are everywhere and very sneaky. Make sure you have your bags zipped and close to your body at all times. Put sunglasses and anything loose into your bags while here, or those moneys may just try to rob you. If you are holding a phone or camera, make sure you keep a good grip on it and hold it close to your body when not in use.

Bali Things to do Monkey Forest

  • Ubud Monkey Forest  – one of the most popular attractions in Ubud is a good place to visit during low season, particularly if you go while it’s drizzling out. (See our note about watching out for monkeys above as they are prone to swipping here as well.)
  • Sekumpul Waterfall  – Often referred to as the most beautiful waterfall in Bali, we tend to agree!
  • Banyumala Twin Falls  – This stunning waterfall doesn’t always have enough water flow, so it’d best to visit during rainy season to ensure an epic view.

Best things to do during rainy season in Bali

  • Try a  cooking class
  • Devdan Dance and Music Show
  • Balinese massage, or go full-out and pamper yourself with a spa day!
  • Craft-making workshop (such as a  Batik class  or  soap carving workshop )
  • Take a yoga class (we recommend The Practice in Canggu or Yoga Barn in Ubud)
  • Nusa Dua Festival (Oct-Nov)
  • Mekepung Buffalo races (held in Negara during the fall)

Pros of visiting Bali during the rainy season

Sekumpul Waterfall Bali

  • High humidity/high temps deter some tourists from visiting during this time, so Bali tends to be less crowded.
  • Typical tourist attractions such as temples and beaches will be less crowded than in busy season.
  • Traffic on the roads won’t be quite as busy as the typical hustle and bustle of high season.
  • Bali’s weather is still fairly sunny, even during the rainy season you’ll usually see sunny skies for at least part of the day.

Cons of visiting Bali during the rainy season

  • Higher chance of rain – as often as daily in January
  • High temperatures and high humidity
  • Mosquitos…eek!
  • Decreased visibility at dive sites due to weather

What to pack for Bali during the rainy season

  • bug repellant  (solids are the way to go)
  • rubber flip flops
  • light, loose fitting, breathable clothing

Things to do in Bali Beach Club

In our opinion, the best time to visit Bali would be during the “shoulder season” months of May, June or September. Here are our primary reasons for choosing this time:

  • Room prices are not at peak rates (usually 30-50% lower)
  • Weather is dry and less humid than peak of rainy season
  • Not too crowded
  • Good sea conditions for diving/surfing/snorkeling
  • Reasonable airfare can be found (Hint: Use these  hacks for booking cheap flights !)
  • Promotional sales in shops on the island

We’d recommend to avoid visiting during the December holidays as not only is this peak rainy season, but crowds are also heavy.

Bali Weather In November: Your Complete Guide To The Pleasant Weather Of November

The weather in Bali in November is warm and somewhat muggy and it’s the first official month of the rainy season.

It’s a superb month to visit Canggu in Bali and enjoy the beaches, the world’s best beach club at FINNS and you can always take refuge from any rainfall in FINNS Rec Club, the spas, cooking schools, restaurants and other attractions in the area.

If you’re on a budget you might want to consider travelling in November. Bali is in the “off-season” this month and that means cheaper flights, hotels and resorts .

So, let’s take a close look at the pleasant weather you can expect when visiting Bali in November.

What Is The Weather Like In Bali In November?

Breathtaking sunrise views on Batur volcano, Bali

An Overview Of The Bali Weather In November

We can’t give you an accurate weather forecast for what the weather will be like in your visit in November but we can give you some hard numbers for you to understand what you can expect in the “wet season” in Bali .

Minimum to Maximum Temperatures (Average Temperatures)

The average daily minimum temperature range in Bali is from 22-25 degrees Celsius (that’s from 72 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit) and that’s a higher average temperature than much of Europe sees in the peak of their summer!

The range of average daily maximum temperatures is 31 to 32 degrees Celsius (that’s about 88 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit) in November.

Bali is warm and pleasant all year round and the average temperature doesn’t vary much from month to month with just 2 degrees between the hottest month of the year (May) and the coldest (January).

Monthly Rainfall And Rainy Days

There are only 10-13 days of rain in Bali in November and that means that between 55 and 65% of the days are rain-free and you can enjoy Bali to your heart’s content without fear of getting wet.

Bali in November does see some fairly substantial rain when it comes though and the island will get 18.8 – 29cm of rain (7.4 – 11.4 inches) which is going to mean that if you get caught in showers, you’re going to want something waterproof to put on.

Hours Of Sunshine Per Day

There are 7-8 hours of sunshine every day in Bali in November, that’s more than enough to spend hours at the beach at Nusa Dua, Canggu, Kuta, Uluwatu, Sanur or Seminyak indulging in water sports, etc.

Ubud the cultural heart of the island is also a great place to see at this time of year as the short bursts of rain tend to make the lush vegetation in Ubdu really come alive.

Relative Humidity Levels

The weather in Bali does feel a bit hotter than it is at times due to the average humidity and it’s quite humid in Bali in November.

The average humidity is 80-85%, mind you this isn’t that much more humid than June, the driest month, where the humidity is about 79-80%.

Average Sea Temperature

The sea temperature at this time of year is around 28-30 degrees Celsius (that’s about 82 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit).

If you want the best trip time for swimming, then November is a great time to come with slightly warmer seas than average.

But then, again, the sea is always pleasant to swim in here in Bali at any time of the year.

What Are The Best Places To Visit In Bali In November?

There are plenty of awesome places to visit in Bali during November including:

Take In The Sunset Seminyak

Seminyak – this busy beach town is great at this time of year and it’s packed with people looking to see and be seen as they enjoy great deals at the luxury resorts in the area and find a table more easily at the local fine dining options before partying the night away.

summer seascape from air nusa penida island indo 2023 11 27 05 30 54 utc

Beach hopping – this season brings a quieter time to Bali’s beaches, so why not roam around the island and see if you can find a favourite spot? Even Kuta Beach is more chilled out at this time of year and it reminds you of why the area became so popular in the first place. Make sure to squeeze in some black sand beaches on your travels.

2023.12.15. VIP BOUTIQUE ROSE 38

Shopping – the markets and walking streets of Bali are always happy to see you at any time of the year but in the quieter months of the off-season, you’re more likely to be able to haggle your way to a bargain. The market stalls expect you to haggle and it’s welcomed. While the boutiques don’t usually allow haggling, they often have sales in November where you can get bargain-priced designer gear.

Legian Beach

Legian Beach Festival – the area of Legian is not far from Kuta, Seminyak or Canggu and this is a pleasant cultural festival that is held around the beach area. If you want to catch some awesome local dance, theatre and musical displays, you’re going to very much enjoy this festival. There are also displays of artwork including paintings and sculptures to take in.

What Should I Bring To Bali In November?

You don’t have to pack very much that you wouldn’t bring at any other time of the year but we strongly advise that you bring light, breathable clothing as this makes it easier for your sweat to evaporate and cool you down in the humidity.

A light jacket and a rain poncho make sense to keep you dry and you might also want to bring some closed shoes in addition to your thongs, if you intend to go hiking make sure you have shoes with a good grip as things can get slippery in the wet.

Is November A Good Time To Go To Bali? Should I Visit Bali In November?

Yes! In fact, the weather in November is very pleasant in Bali and you will have plenty of sunny days to enjoy a trip to the beach and it’s a good month on the island for going out at night too.

You can always enjoy good food in Bali but the rains bring more choice of fresh ingredients for the restaurants.

It’s the perfect time to enjoy discounts on hotel rooms and villas too as the name “rainy season” is code for “off-season”.

Is Bali Rainy In November? Does It Rain A Lot In Bali In November? Is It The Rainy Season?

The weather in Bali during November is rainy and while it doesn’t rain “a lot” only 30-40% of the days get any rainfall. It rains more than it does during the dry season .

It is the rainy season in Bali in November. However, it’s right at the start of the season and most showers are short-lived. It’s a good month to explore some of the more unusual destinations and not just the glorious beaches.

What Season Is It In Bali In November?

It’s the season for rain in Bali in November. Bali only has two seasons as it’s a tropical destination.

That doesn’t mean, however, that all days are rainy days and, in fact, it will only rain on roughly 1 in 3 days during November.

A trip to Bali at this time of year is guaranteed warm and pleasant weather and there’s more than enough sun for a great time on the beaches.

We think that November holidays in Bali are often the best value for money . You can enjoy great offers on your accomodation and still go surfing to your heart’s content!

What’s The Weather Like In Bali In November/December?

This is the wet season but that doesn’t mean that you should visit Bali at this time of year. In fact, as you approach Christmas in December, Bali is at its busiest!

We’d recommend that you visit Bali in November if you want to enjoy a trip without too many crowds and when the accomodation is cheapest.

Visit in December if you want some hot sun for your Christmas Day but be warned, there will be a lot of others out there surfing with you at this time of year.

Is November Part Of The Wet Season In Bali?

Yes, it is. Though the November Weather is hot and sunny and it only rains roughly once every three days.

What Are The Sea Conditions In Bali In November?

The sea here in Bali is always nice to swim and surf in and November is no exception to this rule. While the surf can be more aggressive after bad weather and the water can get a bit murky for diving, it doesn’t rain often enough to be anything but a temporary hindrance in November.

Is Bali Better In October Or November?

This all depends on you. October is the last month of the dry season and it has more crowds than November and you’re still paying peak rates for hotels, etc.

However, it has fewer crowds than the main school holiday months and if you want to come during the peak season one of our top travel tips would be to come in October if you can.

November, on the other hand, has slightly worse weather but it’s much cheaper than October and has even fewer crowds.

How Should I Book A November Holiday In Bali?

We always recommend that people book any trip to Bali, whether it’s in November or not, through the Bali Res Centre .

That’s a very helpful local travel agent who can provide competitive prices and lots of local knowledge to ensure you have the perfect trip to Bali.

Final Thoughts On Bali Weather, November

The November weather in Bali is very nice and while it is, officially, the wet season the weather is warm and sunny most of the time.

Visitors can enjoy the beaches and explore places like Ubud and Bedegul too knowing that they will be cool and pleasant.

November is one month out of twelve awesome months in Bali and if you do visit in November, we hope to welcome you at FINNS Beach Club in Canggu while you’re here.

The BEST Time to Visit Bali – (MUST READ • 2024 Guide)

Bali, you say? That island with bumper-to-bumper traffic and hectic crowds?

Sure, there are times when Bali is a heaving mess of tourists. There are also times when you can see the real beauty and magic of the spiritual island. When you can get away from other tourists to find the hidden gems of natural magnificence and splendour.

It’s all in the planning, babe.

As someone who has lived in Bali for many-a year, I feel pretty qualified to let you know when the best time to visit Bali is, and when you might wanna avoid if you are looking for that serene, tropical paradise experience.

Keep on reading to discover when you should visit Bali, and whether you should pack a raincoat!

When is the Best Time to Visit Bali?

Cheapest time to visit bali , when to visit bali – weather by month, best time to visit bali by place, best time to visit bali for parties and festivals, faqs on the best time to visit bali, final thoughts on the best time to visit bali.

I may have a little bit of bias here, but there isn’t ever a bad time to visit Bali. You can always seek out incredible moments on the small island. However, the BEST time to travel to Bali is during the dry season.

Usually running from April to October (I say usually as global warming is fucking everything up), the dry weather is perfect for being able to get out every day and explore all of the island’s beauty. ‘Dry’ may be a little misleading as there will be super humid days – your skin will be GLOWING in the tropical climate!

If you don’t need to worry about school holidays, I would definitely recommend coming in May or June. It is not quite high season, and you’ll have consistent good weather. It is also a brilliant time with some amazing festivals like the Bali Arts Festival taking place mid-June! You’ll also see a lot of domestic tourists in Bali during these months as Indonesian schools are on holiday.

travelers buying handmade goods at an organic farmer's market in canggu bali

During dry season you’ll want to be smothered in SPF all day long, even if it’s a little grey. The UV index is HIGH and you don’t want to ruin your trip with blistering sun burn and heat stroke.

There is no shortage of places to stay in Bali . Prices will vary throughout the year, with the wet season offering a little more bang for your buck. That being said, with a little research of areas and what’s available, you’ll be able to find your dream island accomm at the price you want to pay! Get on it and book your accommodation early for the best deals.

TLDR: Bali is ALWAYS amazing. But check out May or June for a more relaxed and sunny Bali trip.

The CHEAPEST time to visit Bali comes with the rain. October-March (it isn’t an exact science so don’t come for me) is the wet season with moderate rainfall, storms and cooler temperatures.

Now, I spend the majority of my year in Bali, and to be honest don’t find the rainy season to be too disabling. You can still get out and about, just need to be a little more prepared for setbacks and getting a lil (VERY) wet.

a treehouse in the jungle of bali, indonesia

December, especially late December, is a mini high season as many visitors flock to the beautiful island for a tropical Christmas and New Year celebration. Other than those 2 weeks, it is off season throughout the rainy days and you’ll find heavily discounted accommodations and hotels.

If you’re searching for a laid-back, chill, no crazy plans kind of getaway, visiting Bali during the rainy season is ideal!

Ok, you want even MORE info? Here I present you with a DETAILED, fabulous, month by month guide of what is going on in Bali including weather, events, tourists and more! Don’t say I don’t treat you well.

is it good to visit bali in november

January in Bali

  • Average Max. Temperature: 26°C
  • Rainfall : 27 days, rainy season

January in Bali sees many of the Christmas and New Year tourists departing, ending the high season and leaving the island less crowded. It’s the  rainiest month of the year , and if you’re heading inland to the highlands and mountains, things get torrential.

After the New Year buzz wears off there are much  fewer tourists and cheaper hotel prices .

February in Bali

  • Rainfall : 22 days, rainy season

It’s still  pretty wet  in Bali over February with cooler temperatures and humidity – much like January. The showers don’t last all day long, but can be unpredictable, always be ready to throw on a raincoat.

As things head towards the off season,  tourist numbers dwindle  and the island feels slow and quiet. This also means that you are likely to pick up some really  good deals  on where to stay.

If you are looking for some amazing surf conditions, head to Nusa Dua during February!

March in Bali

  • Average Max. Temperature: 26.5°C
  • Rainfall : 20 days, rainy season

During March, the rain is still around and the  humidity comes down . The chances of rain are lower – but never zero.

This is the start of the low season, so you can enjoy blissfully relaxed and crowd-free conditions on the island. Flights and accommodation are  much cheaper now so, if you’re trying to keep costs low , this is your time.

It is pretty common that the Balinese celebration of Nyepi will take place during March. The date changes every year, dependent on the Balinese calendar. You’ll want to read up on this one as not only is it an incredible show of culture, it can have an affect on your plans.

April in Bali

  • Average Max. Temperature: 27°C
  • Rainfall : 9 days, dry/shoulder season

April is a great month to visit Bali. Not only is it my birthday month (;)), the weather is a bit more predictable with a lesser chance of crazy rain. It ain’t called April Showers for nothing! Temperatures are a little higher, but without the humidity it’s so much more bearable.

Often around the Easter holidays, tourists will begin to trickle in but not at the high rates of July/August time.

There are some great things to see in Bali during April like the Ubud Food Festival, and the surf conditions are amazing!

May in Bali

  • Average Max. Temperature: 28°C
  • Rainfall : 8 days, dry season

If you LOVE the sun, May is when you will wanna visit Bali. It is the hottest month of the year! Dry season has officially hit and we love to see it.

During May, you won’t wanna be doing anything too crazy. Beach lounging, retail therapy, poolside cocktails – fun in the sun! Be sure you are stocked up on SPF.

We still aren’t quite at high season tourist wise so accommodations are still affordable, and the restaurants and cafes aren’t super packed.

June in Bali

  • Rainfall : 6 days, dry season

During June you will start to see the island getting a buzz about it. The airport is a little more busy, places to stay are getting a bit more expensive and tourist spots are getting crowded. We haven’t yet hit high season, but it’s in the air!

The weather during June is consistently dry, but the chance of a tropical storm is never far – usually at night.

If you are heading to Bali from mid-June onwards be sure you have everything booked in advance as prices are only going to rise from now!

July in Bali

  • Rainfall : 4 days, dry season

Here we are people, PEAK TOURISM SEASON in Bali. July is the month of crowds, traffic and shit getting hella expensive. That being said, don’t knock it just yet. There are always some quiet spots to be found away from the masses.

It is prime beach weather during July, though you may be fighting for a good spot on the sand. You’ll also see A LOT of kites soaring through the skies as Bali’s Kite Festival kicks off and all the local kids get involved.

August in Bali

From mid July through August, high season is in full swing with a steady inflow of tourists and events on the island. The weather is top notch, with a super tiny chance of rain and guaranteed SUN.

August 17th is Indonesia’s Independence Day which is celebrated with a public holiday, decorations, local events and parties. If you are lucky enough to have close Indonesian friends, this will be a big deal for them! Get ready to wave your Indo flags.

September in Bali

Goodbye tourists, hello awesome vibes. After a successful high season, the buzz in Bali is palpable with a few wise travellers coming in but most general tourists having left. September is a great time to get out and explore the island, taking tours of temples, scuba diving, doing mountain hikes and immersing in the beautiful island.

You’ll have dry weather, and a slower atmosphere than August.

October in Bali

  • Rainfall : 12 days, rainy season

Here we go, the rains a-coming. In October, we start to see some more moderate rainfall and the off season, slow tourist traffic. If you don’t mind the risk of a down pour here and there, October can be an affordable time to visit Bali.

Rainy season is well and truly upon us, but so are some great events like the Ubud Writer’s Festival and the Bali Vegan Festival.

November in Bali

  • Rainfall : 17, rainy season

Bali has 2 distinct seasons, and November is when you can clearly see rainy season getting serious. Daily showers are more common, but don’t last too long. Be warned, even if the day starts off clear, there’s no promise it’ll stay that way. Humidity is HIGH, making it a sticky time.

You’ll find cheap places to stay during November, and the rice paddies look particularly pretty after a little drenching – so it ain’t all bad. I think Balis is one of the best places to visit in November in the world.

December in Bali

The start of December is a relatively quiet time in Bali with fewer tourists and guaranteed rain. The cooler temperatures make it a great time to visit tourist spots, but be ready to whack on a waterproof.

Late December sees an influx of visitors heading to the island for Christmas and New Year in a tropical climate. There won’t be any outdoor celebrations, but you can definitely find yourself a knock-up Christmas dinner to feast on.

You know WHEN to head to Bali, but now we are going to get into geographical specifics!

Best Time to Visit Canggu

If you know anything about modern Bali, Canggu is the hip and happening place to go. It’s jam-packed with all kinds of trendy restaurants, cafes, bars, clubs, coworking spaces and some pretty epic hostels .

It’s relatively easy to explore Canggu on a budget, but you will defo be spending more than you would in the less trendy areas. It’s all about your preference!

man walking on a canggu bali beach at sunset with two stray dogs nearby

The weather in Canggu is consistent with the Bali averages as it is a coast side town. There’s sun, there’s humidity and there will be rain. The biggest impact the weather has on Canggu is the tide. If you are looking to get out and surf, you will wanna check on the tide reports and make sure you aren’t throwing yourself into a challenging current.

To sum up, the best time to visit Canggu is: always.

Best Time to Visit Ubud

Ubud is the cultural heart of the island with some incredible temples, the Royal Palace, rice terraces and the famous Monkey Forest. It is also literally in the heart of the island, up in the highlands with tall hills, swooping ravines and thick jungles.

The best time to visit Ubud is during the dry season. When it rains in Ubud, it POURS and can cause some nasty flooding.

a large balinese statue in ubud, Bali

It is a lot cooler in the evenings in Ubud than it is on the coast, so you will wanna pack a light jumper. Also be prepared for some crazy insects and mosquitoes around your accommodation in Ubud as the jungles bring out all kinds of creatures.

A place for spiritual healing, great yoga and fabulous vegan food, Ubud is where you can have your own Eat, Pray, Love experience.

Best Time to Visit Uluwatu

If you are thinking for exploring Uluwatu, you are probably thinking beaches, surfing, good food – and that’s probably it. What do you need for these activities? Good weather! It’s best to visit Uluwatu during the dry season when the weather is more predictable and you don’t find yourself stuck on a cliffside in a torrential downpour.

The surfing conditions are also heavily dependent on the weather, and will be a much easier ride during the dry season.

sunset at Uluwatu beach, Bali

Sure it might be cheaper to visit Uluwatu when the rainy season deals strike, but is it worth it if you can’t spend a full day on Bingin beach? That’s your decision to make.

Many of the best places to stay in Uluwatu look out over the cliffside for magnificent views of the ocean and horizon – the sunsets NEVER disappoint.

There is a good mixture of cultural and party events throughout the year in Bali. From mandatory silent days to VIP, super celebrity performances, there’s a lil bit of something for everyone.

Nyepi Bali

Here are all the must-know cultural events in Bali:

  • Nyepi : As previously mentioned, Nyepi is the Balinese New Year that happens most commonly in March (but is dependent on the Balinese calendar). There are many celebrations in the lead up to actual Nyepi day, including the Ogoh-Ogoh parade. Incredibly fierce and gruesome looking monsters are paraded on the streets to intense, hypnotic music. It’s a breathtaking sight! The following day from 6am-6am the island closes – even the airport! You aren’t allowed to step out of your accommodation and are required to avoid any loud noise or open flames. It is a totally unique and fascinating celebration.
  • Bali Spirit Festival : The Bali Spirit Festival is a seven-day wellness festival that hosts yoga lessons, dance and music performances, showcases arts, and offers holistic healing and spirituality workshops. If you are into wellness, this is the festival in Bali to try! It is most commonly held in May.
  • Galungan and Kuningan : Galungan and Kuningan are 2 super important celebrations in the Balinese calendar. They are a celebration of the triumph of good over evil, and take place every 210 days. When these holidays roll around many businesses close, kids get holidays from school and the streets are decorated with incredible penjor .
  • Ubud Food Festival : The amazing Ubud Food Festival is hosted during April showcasing the incredible food culture in Bali. From local businesses with traditional dishes to innovative, new concepts, the food festival has a whole range of things to try as well as classes, talks and workshops.
  • Bali Arts Festival : A beautiful showcase of Balinese culture, the Bali Arts Festival has performances, workshops and many chances to learn about the magnificent, unique culture of the island. Its a long festival that runs from mid June through July.

Here’s what we’re usually asked about the best times for visiting Bali.

When is the Cheapest Time to Visit Bali?

Bali’s wet season is when tourist prices are lowest (October-April). However, you do put your holiday at risk of the rains, which is a bold move. Trying October or April/May can give you both clear skies and a lower price, and is (in my opinion) the better move.

When is the Rainy Season in Bali?

Rain can be expected all year round in Bali, however, the rainy season occurs between October and March, with January and February getting the most rainfall. There is a lot of expected rainfall, so brace yourself! Rains occur in short but heavy showers most of the time.

When is the Coldest Month in Bali?

Bali’s location just south of the equator means it is blessed with consistent temperatures all year round. Maximum temperatures average between 26°C and 28°C year-round.

When is the Worst Time to Visit Bali?

If you’re on a budget or wishing to avoid crowds, the worst time to visit Bali is during the peak season between June and August and over the Christmas/New Year period. If you wish to avoid rain, the worst time to visit is over the rainy season between December and March.

And there you have it folks, the best times to visit Bali laid out plain and simple for you. So, when are you coming?!

A magical holiday in the sun is a given, but are you happy to have the chance of a bit of rain to save some cash? No matter when you choose to come to Bali, I PROMISE you are going to have the most amazing time on the beautiful island.

Weather be damned, you can have the an unforgettable time immersing in the culture, seeing outstanding landscapes and just having a great fucking time!

Rain Season

How is the weather in November?

Rainy Season has arrived. Everything slows down in Bali. The trekking to the volcanoes is not happening. Although you still get days with sunshine to enjoy beaches and surfing, most people come during rainy season to enjoy a peaceful Bali. Rooms rates hit rock bottom. Restaurants have great offers, and many shops put their sales signs out. It’s time to relax, enjoy good food, read a novel and spend hours in coffee shops meeting exciting people and explore the culture of Bali. But, it never gets too quiet in Bali; parties and clubbing is always happening.

Best Time to Visit

The Best Time to Visit Bali

is it good to visit bali in november

Gonzalo Azumendi/Getty Images

The best time to visit Bali is generally during the summer months of June, July, and August when the weather is driest and the days are sunny. Unfortunately, that's also when the island becomes the most crowded—you won't be the only one in search of surf, sand, and sun!

The opportunity to escape the Southern Hemisphere's winter months is just a little too tempting for tens of thousands of Australians who grab short, inexpensive flights up to Bali .

No matter the time of year, expect Bali to be bustling. The island only goes from busy to busier. In fact, a majority of travelers to Indonesia, the world's largest island nation and fourth most populous country, only visit Bali.

It's not for lack of choices in Indonesia . Bali is just one of more than 17,000 islands in the archipelago.

Peak Season in Bali

If you don't mind heavy traffic and sharing crowded beaches, go when the weather is best. July and August are often the driest months with pleasant temperatures.

A good compromise is to risk occasional rain showers in exchange for more peace. The shoulder months before and after the high season (particularly April, May, and September) are enjoyable and experience many sunny days.

The wettest months to visit Bali are from November to March. December, January, and February are extra rainy and a little hotter. These are the peak months in Thailand and countries north of Indonesia that are celebrating their dry seasons before the heat really moves in.

Despite the rain and slightly hotter temperatures in December, Bali still becomes busy with revelers during Christmas and the New Year holiday.

Weather in Bali

Although Bali is warm and comfortable throughout the year, the island has two distinct seasons: wet and dry.

Unsurprisingly, the number of visitors increases as sunny days increase. Everyone's favorite island activities, particularly sunbathing, trekking, and motorbiking, are far more enjoyable without monsoon rain.

Temperatures in Bali during July and August range from the 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius) to 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius), and December and January aren't too far off these balmy temperatures.

Bali is situated just eight degrees south of the equator and enjoys a tropical climate. Those factoids become a sweaty three-shower-a-day reality once you wander too far from the breezy coast. Humidity often hovers around 85 percent. One exception is the green Kintamani region north of Ubud in the interior. Mount Batur provides enough elevation to even make weather chilly and drizzly some days for travelers on a motorbike.

Traveling during the dry and high season doesn't guarantee all sunny days. Mother Nature keeps the island green throughout the year. Even during the dry season, you'll want to be prepared for brief pop-up storms.

Visiting Bali During the Low Season

Although rain doesn't exactly make for a nice day on the beach or exploring the island's interior, there are some advantages to visiting Bali during the "green" season.

You'll get better deals on accommodation and can upgrade to nicer rooms for the same price you would ordinarily pay for a budget guesthouse. With a few insider tricks, you can score great deals on hotels in Bali.

Plus, fewer tourists will be clogging popular hotspots such as Ubud. You may have attractions such as Goa Gajah (the Elephant Cave ) to yourself. During high season, you may have to wait to go inside. Also, the air is cleaner. Less dust and particulate matter from fires hang in the air. And finally, interactions are sometimes friendlier when locals are not so overworked during peak season.

Of course, visiting during the low season has its downsides, too. Sometimes consistent downpours span for days while others dissipate within an hour. You never know. Plus, humidity is much higher, making the heat feel that much worse. Mosquitoes are much worse between rains, making dengue fever more of a threat on the island. Visibility at dive and snorkel sites is often worse because of sediment washed into the sea. Rougher seas may make boat trips less enjoyable.

The drawbacks sound less than appealing, but many travelers prefer to visit destinations only during the low seasons.

Why Is Bali So Popular?

Perhaps because Bali is predominantly Hindu rather than Muslim or Christian, it boasts a unique vibe that differs from surrounding islands. No matter the reason, Bali is always a top destination in Asia .

Bali has been a popular stop for backpackers on the Banana Pancake Trail for a long time. The island is also a famous surfing destination in Southeast Asia and a top honeymoon spot in Asia .

Elizabeth Gilbert really spread the word with her hit book Eat, Pray, Love . Julia Roberts starred in the 2010 movie of the same name, opening the floodgates to Ubud. Prior to 2010, Ubud was mostly quiet and attracted budget travelers interested in a healthy alternative to the raging parties in Kuta.

But Hollywood isn't as much to blame as geography. Backpacking students and Australian families—along with plenty of retired expats—choose to escape cooler weather in the Southern Hemisphere by grabbing cheap flights to Bali.

With many students out of school during the summer months, party epicenters such as Kuta become rowdy as young revelers come to enjoy the nightlife. The atmosphere along Jalan Legian resembles what you would expect at some American beaches during college spring break. Fortunately, there are plenty of lesser-known places along the coast: Amed, Lovina, and Padangbai still offer escape. And if things really get out of control, the nearby islands of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida are tempting.

Spring brings rain to Bali in March and temperatures can be quite hot. However, wait a month and you'll find April to be much more comfortable, and the dry season begins in May. Spring is a popular time for surfing off the island.

Events to check out:

  • Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, falls on the Hindu New Year and will certainly affect your trip—but the night before is a lot of fun. For a full 24 hours, tourists are expected to remain inside their hotels and no noise is permitted. The beaches and businesses close—even the international airport shuts down. Nyepi hits in March or April, depending upon the Hindu lunar calendar.
  • The colorful festival of Holi is usually celebrated in late March.

What is summer for most Westerners is winter in Bali. It's also the best time to visit if you prefer warm and dry weather (although locals consider July and August "cold"). There are occasional rains, but nothing like monsoon season .

  • Hari Merdeka ( Indonesia's Independence Day ) on August 31, may also affect travel to and from Bali. Indonesians also enjoy visiting Bali and come from as far as Sumatra and other places in the archipelago.
  • The Bali Arts Festival is a long-running festival that is among the most popular in the country. The festival traditionally starts on the second Saturday of June and runs through mid-July.

While Indonesia as a whole doesn't truly have an autumnal season, the stretch of months from September through November begins with clear, dry weather (their spring). In November, there are fewer tourists but if you hope to swim, the seas can be rough at this time.

  • The Nusa Dua Fiesta is a fun week of art exhibitions, cultural performances, and more along Bali's southeast coast. It's typically held in October or November.
  • Among Bali's most popular events, the makepung (buffalo) races are held throughout the fall in Negara.

December kicks of Indonesia's summer season. Humidity is high and hours of thunderstorms aren't unheard of. Warm seas have rough waters, making swimming less than ideal, but February conditions are great for surfers.

  • As with all popular destinations in Asia, Lunar New Year (dates change from year to year) draws a crowd, despite rainy weather in January and February.
  • Galungan is the most important religious holiday in Bali. It marks the time when the ancestral spirits visit the Earth. There are two of celebrations throughout the year due to the Pawukon calendar.

The best time to visit Bali is in the shoulder season, either in the early summer or fall when the weather is dryer and there are fewer tourists.

Bali's rainy season lasts from November to March with January and February being the hottest and rainiest months.

If you don't like large crowds of tourist, you should avoid visiting in Bali between June and July. Although, this is when the weather is most pleasant.

For now, sit back to find out if the weather in Bali in November is as wet as you think it might be! Planning ahead to January? This  Bali weather post  should help!

Weather in Bali In November

If you’re someone who prefers to venture and explore the quieter natural beauty of a place during its off-peak season, Bali in November should definitely make your list. You may find  fewer crowds than the peak season of June-August and December , perfect for exploring Bali in all its quiet glory. While the weather in Bali in November can resemble Ireland – with sunshine then rain then sunshine – its still a fun time.

When looking at Bali weather, November is primarily wet, and may not be the most ideal month to go if you intend to spend a lot of time outdoors at the beach, That said, rainy season does have MANY benefits. For example, if you want to go  chasing waterfalls in Bali , then November and December is best.  The more water, the more spectacular the waterfalls . It’s also a good season for photographing the rice fields in Ubud in all their beautiful lush, green glory.

We love Bali in November despite the rain, and here’s what you can expect…

Bali Climate

Bali is located very close to the equator, about 8 degrees South to be more precise. Because of this, you can expect a tropical, warm and humid climate all year round – with two main seasons:  Dry Season  (May and September) and  Rainy Season  (October – April).

The central mountains of Bali, you know – where all the volcanoes are, include many peaks that reach over 3,000 meters high. As you can imagine, the temperatures are considerably cooler up there, and there is a higher rainfall compared to the coastal areas.

Temperature in Bali in November

Temperatures in Bali don’t fluctuate too much from one month to the next – thanks to its tropical climate. Therefore, the month of November sees similar temperatures to that of October. Average temperatures in November fall between 23°C and 27°C for the average low, while the average high is around 31°C.

The sea temperature is around 28ºC, which is fantastic for swimming! Humidity is also very high around this time of the year, so expect to feel a little hot and clammy.

Rainy Season in Bali

Somewhat characterised by yo-yo rain, it can (and probably will) rain on and off throughout the month of November. With rain occurring over 13 days, the chance of encountering a few episodes of rain during this month is relatively high. Not to worry though, storms often don’t last long – they just remind you that the real storms are on their way in the coming months.

In my own personal experience from surviving rainy season in Bali last year, it tends to be dry, clear and sunny every morning until about   2 pm or 3 pm , and then the heavens open. So do all your adventuring in the morning, take an afternoon nap, then party all night!

There have been a few years where Bali didn’t experience its first real rain storm until late December or early January, so you could get lucky. The average rainfall for the month of November ranges from around 80mm to 150mm of rain.

Sometimes you can get lucky, and rainy season only lasts a few weeks – with a few hours of rain each afternoon. You still spend the morning and late afternoons on  some of Bali’s best beaches .

is it good to visit bali in november

November is characterised as one of the months with the least amount of wind for the year, along with April. North-easterly winds are the most prominent, bringing warmer temperatures. You can check out the Bali wind statistics for each month  here .

Daylight Hours

November can actually be a really pleasant time of the year to visit, if the rain is on the same boat as you are (… or on a different one rather).

With 13 hours of daylight and nine hours of sunshine each day, it’s a great time to catch a tan. The sun goes down at around 6.20pm, convenient for sundowners, right?

UV levels will be extremely high around this time of the year, and the clouds can be deceiving! So don’t forget your sun-block.

Bali Wet Season/Bali Raining Season

The wet season brings daily rain and fairly overcast days, with  the most rain recorded between December – February . So technically, November doesn’t really fall into the most hectic of the rainy months, it does, however, become increasingly wetter as the month progresses.

As we’ve mentioned already, this stunning Indonesian island has a tropical climate with two seasons. The western monsoon (wet season) from late October to April, and the dry eastern monsoon (dry season) from May to late October.

November falls into the wet season, although it usually rains in short, heavy bursts that quickly clear.

Suggested Packing List For Rainy Season In Bali

It’s best to prepare for some wet weather when heading to Bali in November. Even though the rain isn’t a constant – you want to be prepared, instead of being forced into a bed-day, you know? So here’s a quick list of what to pack for November:

  • An umbrella: this is a must if you don’t want to stay indoors (or get wet) during the day!
  • A poncho or raincoat that can fold away and be shoved into your backpack
  • Some breathable, light clothes
  • A light jacket in case the evenings get a bit chilly
  • Walking shoes or boots for hikes and walks in the rain
  • flip-flops for the beach. Or barefoot!
  • A hat and sunglasses for when the sun comes around

Is November The Best Month To Visit Bali?

Bali is really great for most of the months of the year. So to answer this question: as long as you are prepared to expect some rain, even some heavy downpours usually late afternoon onwards – then why not?

As we’ve mentioned, rain showers during the day clear up quickly and shouldn’t interfere too much with any planned outdoor activities. Humidity is higher at night, and temperatures are higher during the middle of the day, so finding  accommodation in Bali   with aircon is a good idea. Some mornings may be a bit overcast after a wet night, but this makes for the perfect excuse to have a bit of a lie-in before entertaining yourself with all the  fun free things to do in Bali .

Each November is different, or more or less extreme – it all depends on the arrival of the wet season. Personally, we really like this time of the year in Bali as everything has been freshened up after the first rains.

12 things to know before going to Bali, Indonesia

is it good to visit bali in november

The Indonesian island of Bali is a sun-soaked paradise that attracts every type of traveler, from budget-conscious backpackers to luxury jet-setters.

But – as with any destination – the vast majority of travelers (especially first-timers) will have a number of questions, whether it's "Can unmarried couples stay together in Bali?" (an increasingly common one in the light of recently-introduced new rules for tourists in Bali, which we'll get to later) or "What should I wear?"

Thankfully, Bali is one of the easiest destinations to explore, although its size – the island covers 5776 sq km (2230 sq miles) – means travelers should take the time to think about what they want to see and do relatively early on. For example, places such as Seminyak , with its beach clubs and five-star hotels, tend to become somewhat crowded during peak season, while more rural destinations, such as Ubud , might well require a longer taxi journey  but are absolutely worth the effort, especially for those keen to avoid the crowds.

It's also worth bearing in mind that Bali is one of Asia's safest destinations. As with any holiday hot spot, there are always going to be certain things we can do to ensure we stay safe while traveling, but crackdowns on petty theft and bad behavior have all helped transform the island into a wonderfully family-friendly destination .

Here are our top tips for anyone heading to Bali.

A farmer in a terraced field

1. Check your vaccinations are up-to-date before traveling to Indonesia

There are no mandatory vaccinations for visitors to Bali (barring the need for travelers arriving from countries with a high yellow fever transmission risk to carry a yellow fever vaccination certificate), although Hepatitis A, typhoid and tetanus are often recommended. Bali falls into the "low to no risk" category when it comes to malaria.

Rabies remains a big problem in Indonesia, and although it claims fewer lives in Bali than elsewhere (according to the World Health Organization, 11 people died from rabies in the first half of 2023), it still exists, and the rabies vaccination is worth considering. Working out what vaccinations you need for a holiday to Bali is mostly a personal choice, but if you have concerns, contact your local physician for the latest guidance.

2. Bring a reusable bottle

One of the most asked questions by tourists: "Is Bali's tap water safe to drink?" The short answer is "no." Stick to bottled water or, better still, bring a bottle with a built-in water filtering membrane. Purchasing bottled water – especially in restaurants – can quickly become expensive, which is another reason we're fans of reusable filtered ones, such as Larq and Lifestraw. These are also handy when it comes to purifying water used for cleaning fruits and vegetables. Additionally, try to steer clear of ice and use bottled water to brush your teeth.

3. Don't write off the rainy season

Having a rough idea of when dry and rainy seasons fall is undoubtedly something that is useful to know before heading to Indonesia . But bear with us – Bali's rainy season, which takes place between October and April, is a great time to visit. It's typified by short, sharp showers that often only last a few minutes. And in addition to the fact that prices for everything – from regional airfares to hotels – plummet, the island becomes wonderfully lush, the weather is still warm (typically hovering between 24°C/75°F and 29°C/85°F), and the main tourist attractions are blissfully crowd-free. You'll also find it easier to snap up places on excursions, such as snorkeling tours and guided hikes.

4. Buy some bug spray

To be clear, Bali doesn't have a major mosquito problem, but like anywhere in Southeast Asia, these pesky biting bugs love the occasional bloodsucking session – in the case of Bali, particularly during the rainy season between November and April. Lighten the load on your wallet by purchasing your repellent in Bali and opting for bug sprays made in Asia. Popular (and much cheaper) Asian brands you'll find throughout Indonesia include Soffell (snap up the surprisingly pleasant floral-scented version if you can).

5. Avoid traveling during peak times

Traffic in Bali can be horrendous – especially around busier spots such as Denpasar and Kuta – and estimated journey times on apps like Google Maps or Grab are notoriously unreliable. Peak times tend to be 6am to 8am (but roads often remain busy until 10am when day-trippers head out) and 4pm to 7pm. Allow plenty of time to get from A to B, especially when heading to the airport.

A pathway between lily-covered ponds leads to a temple building

6. Pack clothes that will cover you up for when you're not on the beach

In Bali, skimpy swimwear is fine for the beach, but definitely not for trips to a supermarket or restaurant.

Men and women need to ensure their shoulders and upper legs are covered when visiting religious sites, although most of these places will have sarongs for visitors to borrow. Pack like a pro by taking a light cotton scarf that can double as a sarong if you visit a temple or other religious site, and a pair of light cotton trousers (bonus points if they've got a built-in mosquito repellent), which will protect you from bites while also providing enough coverage at sites where tiny denim shorts or a vest just won't cut it.

7. Behave respectfully

Various media reports might give the impression it's easy to get into trouble in Bali, but it's not. In reality, you just need to be sensible: don't do drugs (being caught with under a gram of cannabis will land you in prison), be respectful and dress appropriately at religious sites, don't ride a motorbike or moped without a helmet (Bali's police have recently started cracking down especially hard on foreign moped drivers), and treat locals with respect.

8. Locals will be keen to share their knowledge with you

Staying at a hotel with a concierge or a friendly receptionist? Feel free to grill them about the best local bar, beach or restaurant. The Balinese are incredibly proud of their island  – don't be surprised if the bartender at your favorite beach bar ends up inviting you to their home for dinner with their family – and love nothing more than telling visitors about their favorite beach, nature walk or temple.

9. Eat, drink, stay and shop locally

Don't be afraid to go local, whether this means eating at tiny family-run restaurants or opting for local drink brands. You'll pay less and enjoy delicious local dishes, and you'll be contributing directly to the local economy, too. These days, even the smallest restaurants, bars and independent hotels will be listed on online review sites such as Zomato (especially popular in Asia), and a quick glance should tell you whether the business in question is reputable or not.

10. Carry some loose change

Many businesses in Bali will take payment by card, but there are still plenty of places that only take cash. These include temples, smaller souvenir shops and beachfront masseuses (which, by the way, offer some of the best massages going). ATMs on the island can be unreliable and are also few and far between in some areas. Additionally, don't assume you'll always have the mobile data you'll need to book a ride-share taxi. If you need to hail a tuk-tuk or taxi from the side of the road, it's highly likely you'll need to pay in cash.

When using ATMs, opt for ones connected with major banks (in Indonesia, these include BNI, Bank Mandiri, BCA and CIMB Niaga) to avoid withdrawal fees and remember that Indonesian ATMs issue the cash first, so don't forget to wait for your card to appear.

11. Get around by moped (but always wear a helmet)

Mopeds are the cheapest way to get around Bali  and often – especially during rush hour in places such as Kuta – the quickest, too. They're also offered as a mode of transport by Grab and Gojek (Bali's most popular ride-sharing apps), and prices for journeys via mopeds are significantly cheaper than those made by car. Just remember to check the reviews of your chosen driver and always wear a helmet (the driver will typically provide one). Avoid hailing scooter taxis on the street – you won't be able to check their credentials, and, in reality, Grab and Gojek have so many scooter drivers (both identifiable for their bright green jackets) that there's simply no need.

12. There is a no-sex-before-marriage law

In December 2022, the Indonesian government brought in a new law that forbids sex outside of marriage. Technically, this law applies to visitors as well as locals.

At the time, it was announced that the legislation won't be introduced until late 2025. Since then, Bali's governor has said that the law – dubbed by some newspapers as the "Bali bonk ban"– won't apply to tourists and, additionally, guilty parties can only be reported by spouses, parents or children. In summary, the law represents a worrying development for human rights in Indonesia, but it's not one that is likely to affect tourists.

Bali to charge foreign tourists $10 entry tax

F oreign tourists must now pay a 150,000 rupiah (£7.60; $9.60) levy to enter Bali, one of the world's most popular tourist destinations.

Indonesian authorities say this is aimed at protecting the island's environment and culture.

Bali is known for its pristine beaches and surfing waves, as well its beautiful landscapes.

Official data shows that almost 4.8 million tourists visited Bali between January and November last year.

The tourist tax, which was first announced last year, came into effect from Wednesday - Valentine's Day.

It applies to foreign tourists entering the province from abroad or other parts of the country, with domestic Indonesian tourists exempt. Travellers are urged to pay up before arrival, through the Love Bali website.

Tourism contributed some 60% to Bali's annual GDP before the pandemic.

According to the province's statistics bureau, Australia was the largest contributor of foreign tourists to Bali in November 2023 with more than 100,000 arrivals. This was followed by tourists from India, China and Singapore.

But misbehaving tourists in Bali have riled locals in recent years.

Last March, a Russian man was deported from Bali after stripping off on Mount Agung, believed by Hindus to be the home of the gods.

In the same month, authorities said they planned to ban foreign tourists from using motorbikes , after a spate of cases involving people breaking traffic laws.

In 2021, uproar also resulted when a three-minute video circulated of a Russian couple having sex on Mount Batur, another holy site.

The announcement came on the same day that millions of Indonesians headed to the polls to select a new president and legislature. More than 200 million people over Indonesia's 17,000 islands and across three time zones are eligible to vote.

Sen. Mitch McConnell will step down as Republican leader at the end of the year

WASHINGTON — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will step down from the helm of the Republican Conference this year, ending his time as the longest-serving leader in Senate history.

McConnell, R-Ky., who has served as GOP leader since 2007, made his announcement in a Senate floor speech Wednesday. An election to replace him as leader will occur in November, with his successor taking charge in January.

"One of life’s most underappreciated talents is to know when it’s time to move on to life’s next chapter, so I stand before you today, Mr. President and my colleagues, to say this will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate," McConnell said, adding in his address that he had "total clarity and peace about the sunset of my work."

President Joe Biden, a longtime friend of McConnell's despite their frequent sparring over politics, praised him in a statement, saying he was proud that they had been able to work together "in good faith even though we have many political disagreements."

"During his many years of leadership, we could always speak with each other honestly and put the country ahead of ourselves," Biden said.

Colleagues regard McConnell as an effective political tactician and one of the most influential lawmakers in Washington. With then-President Donald Trump, McConnell helped enact a sweeping $1.5 trillion tax package in 2017 that slashed corporate rates, provided new breaks for private businesses and reorganized the individual tax code.

But McConnell's most consequential legacy dates to his extraordinary decision in 2016 to refuse to let President Barack Obama fill a vacant Supreme Court seat. He went on to shepherd three conservative Supreme Court nominees — Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett — through the Senate under Trump's presidency, creating the most right-leaning court in nearly a century and reshaping American law. That court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022, ending the national right to abortion, among many other major decisions.

"There are some pretty major victories that the two men together accomplished and neither one of them could have, probably, without the other," said Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D.

But McConnell's once formidable influence over the Senate GOP has dimmed over the last year as the conference becomes more aligned with Trump, who has a famously frosty relationship with McConnell and recently said he didn't think he could work with him if he's re-elected president. Trump and McConnell haven't spoken in more than three years, hitting a breaking point with the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. McConnell voted to acquit Trump in the impeachment trial that followed, but he gave a scathing speech on the Senate floor saying Trump was "practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the day."

Still, aides to both top Republicans have recently held discussions, including an effort to get McConnell to endorse Trump for re-election.

The Republican conference has recently broken with McConnell on matters like Ukraine aid and a bipartisan border security deal. And his critics had promised he would face a challenge if he sought to run again for the leader position.

The race for a successor is expected to begin immediately with the "three Johns" — Senate Minority Whip John Thune, of South Dakota, the No. 3 Republican Sen. John Barrasso, of Wyoming, and former GOP Whip Sen. John Cornyn, of Texas — widely expected to run for the position.

"I plan to support John," joked Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio.

Thune, 63, is the favorite to replace McConnell, given that he’s well regarded by colleagues and the No. 2 GOP leader. But while he endorsed Trump in recent days, Thune has also clashed with the former president and likely GOP 2024 presidential nominee — a fact that could complicate the senator’s bid for the top job.

That could provide an opening for either Barrasso, who is more aligned with Trump, or Cornyn, a former No. 2 leader under McConnell and a prolific fundraiser. None of the three Johns announced their bids Wednesday, allowing McConnell to have his day.

"It is a remarkable record on longevity, on accomplishments, and we ought to celebrate that record," Barrasso told NBC News.

Added Thune: "He leaves, obviously, big shoes to fill. ... Today we just want to reflect on his service and honor him for that and then we'll go from there."

Health issues for McConnell, 82, almost certainly played a role in his decision. Last March, he sustained a concussion and fractured a rib when he took a bad fall at a private dinner at a Washington hotel, sidelining him for six weeks.

Then in July, McConnell froze for 19 seconds at a news conference in the Capitol, worrying colleagues who said they had noticed a change in the longtime leader and they believed the fall had taken a toll. He appeared to freeze a second time at a Kentucky event the following month.

In announcing his decision, McConnell also noted the toll on his family following the recent death of his sister-in-law, Angela Chao , in a car accident.

McConnell suggested he would finish out his term as senator, which ends in January 2026. "I’ll finish the job the people of Kentucky hired me to do, as well, albeit from a different seat," he said. "And I’m actually looking forward to that."

Several Republican colleagues praised McConnell for recognizing it was time to pass the torch to a younger generation of leaders.

"He's 82 years old and decided it's time to pass the baton to the next generation. That's something that I've been saying for a long time. I made the decision myself even though I'm a spry 76," said Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, a McConnell ally who is not seeking re-election this fall.

"He's reached an age where he said it's time to move on and let someone else take the helm," Romney said.

But McConnell's conservative critics said they weren't sorry to see him go. Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., noted that he called on McConnell to step aside as leader more than a year ago and voted against him as leader this Congress.

"So this is a good development. My question is: Why wait so long?" Hawley said. "I mean, November's a long time away. We have a lot to achieve between now and then. We need new leadership now. It's my view, but this is better than nothing."
