4 Best Aftermarket Tour Packs for Harley Davidson Motorcycles

Harley Davidson is renowned for manufacturing stylish power cruisers and for pioneering the Grand American Bagger segment. The high-powered Milwaukee-Eight engines installed in all of Harley Davidson’s iconic motorcycles are popular for their higher power outputs and ample torque production, making long-distance rides highly enjoyable. Consequently, it is not uncommon to see Harley owners use their Dyna, Softail, and Sportster motorcycles for touring. However, to make these urban utility motorcycles ready for highway travel, some modifications or the addition of aftermarket parts are indispensable.

The most common accessories that Harley Davidson motorcycle riders use to transform their street motorcycles and cruisers into comfortable touring machines include heated grips, heated seats, luggage racks, and Harley Davidson luggage bags. On the other hand, the owners of Harley touring motorcycles tend to install aftermarket Harley seats , luggage bags, and luggage racks for customization and personalization.

Therefore, whether a Harley enthusiast owns a Harley street bike, touring motorcycle, or any cruiser of the three most sought-after lineups — Harley Dyna , Softail, and Sportster — they are no strangers to aftermarket or OEM Harley parts, especially luggage. With a wide variety of Harley motorcycle luggage options available on the market, choosing a luggage bag that best fits all of the rider’s needs is quite a struggle. But as the world of motorcycles and the motorcycle luggage system has evolved, a significant increase in the demand for tour packs has been observed, especially by Harley Davidson owners.

The primary reason behind the consistent increase in the demand for the Harley Davidson motorcycle tour packs is their dynamic versatility and ability to offer a one-in-all solution. Similar to Harley saddlebags , the Harley Davidson tour packs juggle diverse and challenging roles, adapting quickly to the most-trying conditions and enduring without any signs of wear or damage. Initially, only OEM Harley tour packs were considered adept at grappling the tough road conditions riders encounter daily. Aftermarket luggage owners complained about mounting bolts coming loose due to vibration, incorrect fitment, subpar finish, and overall a disappointing performance. However, this eventually changed when more dedicated brands, like Viking Bags, entered the industry and helped establish customers’ faith in the aftermarket Harley products.

The efforts to win customer support helped aftermarket luggage bags grab a substantial market share giving tough competition to the OEM products on one hand and posing a difficult choice before the customers on the other. Eventually, aftermarket Harley motorcycle luggage manufacturers created their own space by introducing a wide scope of customization and creativity. The freedom of creative expression offered by the aftermarket luggage bags resonated with the freedom-loving nature of the Harley owners. Therefore, by offering the same quality at a less price, aftermarket tour packs for Harley manifested as a whole new movement, quickly gaining customers’ trust and favor. If you too are looking for superior-quality Harley tour packs that won’t dent your bank, this article brings you some premium options and useful tips to help you select a Harley tour pack that best suits your budget and storage needs.

1. what is a harley davidson tour pack and its function.

best chopped tour pack

Harley Davidson tour packs, also called Harley motorcycle trunks , were first introduced by Harley in its Electra Glide family under the 2014 Project Rushmore. The tour packs were introduced to augment the already large storage capacity of the motorcycle hence encouraging riders to use their bikes for comfortable cross-country trips. These new tour packs were designed to store a week’s worth of clothing, a full helmet, camping gear, motorcycle rain covers, and other similar large-sized essentials. Moreover, these tour packs included different amenities, such as an audio system for entertainment, a USB charging port, a communication system, and LED lighting to help riders easily locate their belongings inside the tour pack.

On the other hand, motorcycle trunks were introduced for riders who only needed a large and sturdy luggage compartment without additional internal amenities. However, much like the tour pack, Harley motorcycle trunks often include attached passenger backrests to enhance pillion comfort over extended journeys. The convenience of packing and anti-theft mechanisms made tour packs a must-have for almost all Harley owners.

2. Appeal of Aftermarket Tour Packs for Harley Davidson Motorcycles

best chopped tour pack

As mentioned, Harley Davidson itself introduced stock and optional OEM tour packs for its touring motorcycles, but eventually, aftermarket tour packs emerged in the market as the demand grew exponentially and it became difficult for the American motorcycle manufacturer to meet the individual preferences of a wide range of riders. Aftermarket tour packs for Harley Davidson motorcycles are just as popular as OEM tour packs, if not more, for the following reasons:

2.1 Customization

Aftermarket tour packs for Harley motorcycles provide the easiest, and, at times, the most pocket-friendly entrance into the realm of Harley motorcycle customization. Different sizes, finishes, shapes, and colors, each piece is designed to tell a unique story of a Harley rider, plus it offers the freedom the American motorcycle brand symbolizes and stands for. As opposed to the uniform effect that the OEM Harley parts, the aftermarket Harley tour packs augment the bike’s alluring charm, helping it create a commanding road presence. However, the trick to reaping all the benefits of aftermarket tour packs is to find a well-reputed brand that has the expertise in the design and functionality of the Harley tour packs.

2.2 Affordability and Generous Discounts

Compared to OEM options, the aftermarket Harley tour packs are available at much more affordable prices, allowing riders not to compromise on quality even on a tight budget. The generous discounts offered by the aftermarket Harley luggage brands help keep the tour packs within reach of a wide range of riders, helping them enjoy seamless storage convenience for adventurous motorcycle escapades.

2.3 Warranty

A trustworthy aftermarket Harley luggage bag brand will offer at least a one-year warranty on all its products. Though it may seem like a privilege, manufacturer warranty is the purchaser’s right and must be prioritized as they are a testament to brand’s dedication to quality and customer satisfaction. Plus, they cover all the defects and lapses in the material construction at the expense of the manufacturer, offering you peace of mind and optimal cost performance/ value for the money.

2.4 Superior Craftsmanship

Most aftermarket Harley luggage bag brands start at grassroots levels and mainly consist of a team of Harley motorcycle touring enthusiasts who live for customization. Therefore, these brands are well-aware of the needs and requirements of customers and what they face out on the road. Consequently, most popular aftermarket Harley luggage bag experts are highly adept at engineering luggage systems that can withstand all the challenges a rider might face on the open road. Hence, superior craftsmanship is something aftermarket Harley luggage bags take pride in even more so than the OEM luggage manufacturer.

2.5 Functionalities and Amenities

Aftermarket tour packs for Harley Davidson motorcycles come with different amenities, such as a passenger backrest, free mounting hardware, a key-lockable system for theft protection, an internal organizer, a hi-viz mat, speakers, and a built-in USB port. While OEM tour packs also feature these enhanced functionalities, the price point at which they are offered compels Harley owners to opt for cost-effective, yet standardized aftermarket Harley tour packs.

3. Tips to Choose the Best Aftermarket Tour Packs for Harley Davidson

best chopped tour pack

A Harley Davidson tour pack is a significant investment and requires certain considerations. Whether you are buying a new tour pack for your Harley street bike or cruiser, or looking for a worthy replacement for the stock tour pack on your Harley touring bike, you must deliberate over the following aspects before placing your purchase order.

3.1 Your Riding Needs

Each rider has a different riding style and needs as not all riders enjoy traveling 300+ miles on a two-wheeler. However, they may still require a large storage bag for their motorcycle camping trips, shopping excursions, and commutes. Simply carrying a motorcycle helmet may also require you to equip your bike with a large tour pack that can easily accommodate a full-sized helmet. Therefore, when choosing a tour pack for your Harley motorcycle, determine how much storage you need. Carefully check the dimensions of the tour pack as the height or depth of the tour pack is crucial to its storage capacity, and in case you are purchasing online, contact the brand’s customer service providers to ensure that the piece you are choosing is designed for that purpose.

3.2 Motorcycle Compatibility

Aftermarket Harley motorcycle tour packs are also popular for their universal fitment. But, should you click the ‘buy now’ button immediately if the fitment note says, ‘fits all Harley motorcycles’ Motorcycle compatibility goes beyond installation mechanisms, as the tour pack you are purchasing may exceed your bike’s weight limit, increase the width of the bike’s rear, and disagrees with the bike’s color scheme or finish. Therefore, when choosing a tour pack for your Harley Davidson motorcycle, make sure it aligns with the overall personality and DNA of the bike. While some contrast can be introduced in the bike’s styling, it shouldn’t result in a striking disparity. Also, never ignore the fitment note of the Harley tour pack because if your motorcycle model is not included, don’t try to force-fit the product. It will not only cause unnecessary wastage of money but also damage the tour pack and your motorcycle.

3.3 Ease of Installation

There will be moments when you would want to ride your Harley motorcycle without any additional weight and accessories. In such scenarios, ease of installation and removal play a key role. Also, it is advisable to opt for tour packs that come with mounting hardware so you don’t have to spend hours in the hardware store, trying to find the right-sized mounting bolts to install the tour pack.

3.4 Care and Maintenance Requirements

If your bike is equipped with a tour pack, it will tempt you to travel long distances every once in a while. Long-distance travels tend to expose the tour packs to harmful elements that fade the finish and impact its overall appearance. But in our busy schedules, sparing time to thoroughly clean the tour pack can be quite a struggle. Consequently, we end up neglecting Harley tour pack maintenance, exacerbating its deterioration. Therefore, it is recommended to choose a tour pack that is easy to clean and maintain using a clean damp cloth and protective sprays.

Having adequate storage space for long rides is essential for Harley-Davidson motorcycle owners. Among the various options available, two of the most popular choices are the chopped tour pack and the razor tour pack.

Both offer ample storage space and a sleek design, but there are significant differences between them. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll delve into the world of chopped and razor tour packs, comparing their features, functionality, and overall benefits. By the end, you’ll have a better understanding of which option may be the best fit for your riding needs.

What Is A Chopped Tour Pack?

A chopped tour pack is a specific motorcycle accessory commonly used on touring bikes. It serves as a storage compartment mounted on the bike’s rear, providing additional space for riders to carry their belongings during long trips.

The chopped tour pack is designed with a shorter height than traditional tour packs, giving it a sleek and compact appearance while still offering ample storage capacity.

  • Typically features a hinged lid for easy access to the contents inside.
  • Equipped with a locking mechanism to ensure the security of stored items.
  • Some chopped tour packs may come with additional features such as a backrest for added comfort and a custom paint job to match the motorcycle’s aesthetics.
  • Smaller size for easy maneuverability.
  • Lightweight design.
  • Sleek appearance.
  • Limited storage capacity compared to larger tour packs.

What Is A Razor Tour Pack?

A razor tour pack is a detachable touring pack specifically designed for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. It consists of a box-like frame that provides ample storage space for various items. Constructed from powder-coated and stainless steel materials, the razor tour pack offers a sturdy build and stylish appearance.

  • Secure mounting system for ride stability, eliminating unwanted movement or shifting.
  • Spacious main compartment for clothing, gear, and personal belongings.
  • Additional pockets and compartments for organizing smaller items like keys, wallets, and mobile devices.
  • Sturdy handles and straps for easy transportation and attachment to motorcycles.
  • Ample storage space.
  • Durability.
  • Easy installation.
  • Sleek design.
  • Limited accessibility compared to chopped tour packs.

Chopped vs. Razor Tour Pack: Difference Between These Two

The primary difference between chopped and razor tour packs lies in their size, design, and accessibility. While chopped tour packs offer a sleeker appearance and easier maneuverability, razor tour packs provide greater storage capacity and durability. The choice between the two ultimately depends on your personal preferences, riding style, and storage needs.

Storage Capacity:

Comparing the storage capacity between chopped and razor tour packs is crucial for riders seeking the right touring luggage. The chopped tour pack typically offers a storage capacity of 4.7 cubic feet, while the razor tour pack offers 7.5 cubic feet. This difference is significant when storing larger items such as camping gear or a full-face helmet.

Design And Appearance:

The chopped tour pack features a shorter, sleeker design, providing a more compact and sporty look. In contrast, the razor tour pack has a longer, slimmer profile that offers a more streamlined and aerodynamic aesthetic.

Both tour packs come with different docking hardware options for easy installation on motorcycles, allowing riders to customize their bikes according to their preferences and specific needs.

Ease Of Installation And Removal:

The ease of installation and removal is an essential factor when deciding between a chopped and razor tour pack. The chopped tour pack is generally easier to install and remove, requiring minimal effort and time. In contrast, the razor tour pack may require additional time and effort due to its more secure mounting system.

However, the razor tour pack offers a more stable mount made from higher-quality materials, making it a better option for some riders.

Weight And Durability:

Considerations for weight and durability are also important when choosing between chopped and razor tour packs. Chopped tour packs are made of lightweight ABS plastic-polymer material, making them lighter but less durable than razor tour packs.

On the other hand, razor tour packs are constructed from more durable fiberglass material, making them heavier but more damage-resistant. Riders planning to carry many items or gear may opt for a razor tour pack due to its greater weight capacity.

Cost Comparison:

Cost is an essential factor when choosing between chopped and razor tour packs. On average, chopped tour packs tend to be slightly more affordable than razor tour packs.

The price range for chopped tour packs typically falls between $300 to $600, while razor tour packs can range from $500 to $800. However, prices may vary depending on the specific brand, features, and any additional accessories included.

Conclusion:

Choosing between a chopped and razor tour pack depends on personal preferences, riding style, and storage needs. While chopped tour packs offer a sleeker appearance and easier maneuverability, razor tour packs provide greater storage capacity and durability.

Riders should consider factors such as size, design, ease of installation, weight, and cost when making their decision. Ultimately, both options offer advantages and can enhance the riding experience, so it’s up to the individual to decide which is best for them.

How many people are using aftermarket Razor tour packs, vs harley's? And how is the quality of them vs harley's

best chopped tour pack

I have a razor from Advanblack. I am happy with it. I went with them because they color matched the hinges and latch. I have not had one from Harley, so I can’t compare.

best chopped tour pack

I have one that I bought in March. For my 16. Chopped. All Harley parts. Backrest and mount. I'll be selling it. Its Black Quartz with chrome hardware.

best chopped tour pack

I have a HD Chopped Pak. I have had it for years now. I would think that a reputable aftermarket pak would be fine. Just be sure to get the heavy duty hinges.

Not to hijack this thread, but I'm sitting in dealership right now debating chopped vs. king. Feedback on one over the other? I don't ride 2 up. Also, what are you doing for antennae relocation - hidden or move to rear? I prefer look of hidden but worried about reception. Thanks!

Which pak is going to be your own decision but for me, the chopped or razor pak looks the best IMO. The king is just to big, once again my opinion, unless you really REALLY need the extra storage. Swomack

Yeah, I agree with you Swomack that chopped and razor look better. I also much prefer the smaller passenger backrest on the chopped because I don't ride with passengers. I'm struggling with the difference in capacity and whether I'll kick myself down the road for not going bigger -- room for full face helmet, etc. As you say, all personal preference. Thanks.

best chopped tour pack

I agree a chopped or razor look better but it all depends on what you want from the TP. Is it something that you want to add to the bike for looks because it's a style your after? Or is it something you just want to use for travel? To me the razor is pretty much a waste for the moey if you want to put things in it. The chopped is ok to put a reasonable amount of stuff in and it looks good to keep on the bike. The King is certainly the way to go if you want the max storage and you plan to take it off the bike anyway if not on the long hauls. My choice is for the king because the new rushmore (14' & up) style is way better looking than the old square box and it has even more capacity. Your choice based on how you want to use it. My opinion is even at an aftermarket TP price it's not going to add the look I want to my bike anyway so if I am going to spend the money on one it's going to be one I can put a bunch of stuff in and then take it off when I don't need it.

I have an advan black chopped and so far the quality is fine. The shell is strong and the hinges are pretty heavy duty. That being said I cant compare to a hd factory tour pack as I've never had one. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

Agreed, the chop pak looks better on the bike and it has plenty of room for stuff.

best chopped tour pack

I have a chopped TP from advanblack. I pretty much leave it on all the time, and pack it full of crap. I cut my stock antenna down, and still have good reception, when I use the FM radio.

best chopped tour pack

I run a AdvanBlack razor pack and like it quite a bit. Got back from a 5 state run and have no issues with it at all.

King vs. Chopped vs. Razor Tour pack: which one should you pick for the most comfortable experience?

We use affiliate links and may receive a small commission on purchases. Read more about us .

When it comes to picking up a tour pack for your Harley Davidson, there are three different options available. The first one is the King, the last one is the Chopped, and in the middle, there is the Razor Tour pack.

But how do you choose the best option for your model? Well, we are here to make you comfortable with your decision. In this particular article, we will be talking about the differences, similarities, and all the features you will get from these three tour packs.

At the end of the article, we believe you will have specific knowledge to pick up the right gear for you.

Without any further I do, let’s get into it-

King vs. Chopped vs. Razor Tour pack

Is a tour pack worth it?

A tour pack is nothing cheap. For a good quality tour pack, you have to spend around 600 to 800 bucks. That is when the ultimate question comes into mind. Is a tour pack worth it?

Yes, a Tour Pack is worth the budget when you really feel the importance of having some extra space to carry your necessary accessories.

When you want a tour pack only for luxury, it may lose its appeal within a short time. But when it becomes a necessity, spending that much budget behind a tour pack is never a luxury.

A dedicated tour lover needs to carry different tools and accessories with him when it is about going on a long tour. That is when one will feel the dire importance of a tour pack.

Besides, a casual rider who needs to go out every day also needs to carry some necessary gear to reduce the chance of obstruction in the middle of work. Therefore, a tour pack can also come in handy to give the most versatile support at that particular moment as well.

King vs. Chopped vs. Razor Tour pack

Let’s get into the main discussion now

harley tour pack

The king tour pack is the real tall one. King is larger than the rest of the two. Therefore, when you prefer a larger option to improvise the spacing, the King should be the most ideal option.

The Razor, on the other hand, is the real short one on the list. This tour pack looks pretty impressive at the first glance, but it comes with a real short construction. Therefore, versatility will be well ensured, but you may have to sacrifice the space a little.

In the middle, there comes the Chopped one. This one is a little smaller than the king but a little larger than the Razor version. Therefore, when your preference is to stay neutral in the middle, the Chopped version of the Tour pack should bring the most optimum experience with your Harley Davidson.

King is for the long tour, the Razor is for roaming around the town, and the Chopped one fits both circumstances.

The larger spacing area allows you to carry a large number of accessories inside of the king tour pack. Therefore, the king tour pack will be an ideal option when you have a plan to go on a long tour with your Harley Davidson.

The smaller size of the Razor tour pack does not allow the rider to take a large number of accessories inside of the Razor tour pack. Therefore, you can choose the Razor tour pack when you will roam around the town. Taking a small helmet, a gym bag, and something like that will be convenient with a Razor tour pack.

In the end, the chopped tour pack will allow you to make a neutral decision. The chopped version will not say anything when you take it on a long tour; neither will it make any disturbance when you roam around the town.

King has a bigger backrest, whereas Chopped and Razor are almost the same

We have already mentioned earlier that the King tour pack is the real ideal solution for the long tour. It justifies our comments by adding a larger and comfortable backrest on it. The backrest is indeed comfortable to give you long-lasting support when you will be on a long tour.

In another part of the presentation, both the chopped and Razor version of the tour pack comes with the almost same size of the backrest. Therefore, you can always go for them when you have a plan to travel a mid or short distance.

What you can keep inside of a King tour pack?

Being the largest tour pack on this list, King can accommodate more accessories than the rest of the two counterparts. Here are some of the things you can keep inside of a King Tour pack-

  • Two full-size helmets.
  • A full backpack.
  • A sleeping bag and a full-face helmet (maybe with a  little force)
  • A gym bag and a half-face helmet.
  • Two beer packs.

What you can put inside of a Chopped tour pack?

The chopped one is the mid-size edition on the list. Therefore, you will not be able to accommodate even a single full-face helmet on it. Other than a full-face helmet, this tour pack should sufficeenough to accommodate one single unit of everything you can think of. Here are some of the things you can think about taking with you inside of a Chopped Tour pack-

  • Two half-face helmets.
  • A backpack.
  • A sleeping bag.
  • A beer pack.

What you can put inside of a Razor tour pack?

Being the smallest tour pack on this list, Razor does not have enough space to let you go on a long tour. Like the chopped pack, Razor also does not allow you to take a full-face helmet inside of it. You can think about taking the rest of the things inside of a Razor pack but only a single unit.

Here are some of the things you can think about carrying inside of a Razor Tour pack-

  • A couple of caps.
  • A couple of gloves.

Let's talk about the look.

Let's be a little straightforward in this particular aspect of the presentation. If you believe that the look of your tour pack really matters, this section should come in handy to pick up the right looks for your Harley.

Looks of King Tour pack

The bulky construction of the king pack seems a little temperate while comparing to the rest of the two packs. But that is not the only thing that should define its quality. The king is a three-day tour pack, whereas the rest of the two can support you for around one to two days. Therefore, when importance is the first priority other than the looks, the king is the most wholesome tour pack available.

We are not saying that the King Tour pack looks almost barren. Nope, that is not the case at all. The color of the King pack could be a little crisper. But it is always okay to make your Harley looks far more lucrative and stylish.

Looks of Chopped Tour pack

The Chopped, being the mid-size tour pack on this list, looks a lot better with your Harley. The crisp color with the decent finishing makes this one a stylish tour pack to install on your Harley.

The inclusion of the mid-size backrest and a quality color combination should suffice to please any users.

The chopped edition is also a great pack when you prioritize quality over the look. The mid-size construction should give you the authenticity to go on a tour for one to two days when you have this tour pack for your Harley Davidson.

In terms of look, this one is not altogether bad. Decide first whether you really need one tour pack or not. If it is really a matter to you, the look is precise enough to make you comfortable.

Looks of Razor tour pack

When it comes to the style and look, the Razor tour pack is the most lucrative and stylish kit available on the list. Almost ninety percent of the users will agree to the fact that the Razor pack looks simply stunning after the installation on every Harley Davidson model. The perfect satin finishing with a crisp color makes this one an ideal device for look and productivity.

It is indeed true that the Razor tour pack is smaller than most of its counterparts. But this one also comes for daily purposes where you will require smaller loads to carry with you.

That means when you are passionate about going out every day with your Harley and need to carry a stylish pack to carry your utensils; no other tour packs can beat Razor.

Which one is perfect for you?

We are almost at the end of this article section. If you summarize the whole writings above, there appear three conditions that define which one should be a perfect choice for you-

King is for three to four days long tour.

A long tour is impossible without a convenient tour kit with you. When you have a Harley, a long tour becomes much easier with a King Tour pack. One of the ideal reasons this one is a perfect kit for the long tour is its larger size. The larger space compared to the rest of the two counterparts allows every rider to carry a large number of tools with him. As a result, traveling becomes more fun and exciting.

Besides, the larger and comfortable backrest that comes with the King tour pack allows the rider to feel comfortable when they are on the go.

That is why the king tour pack will come out to be the most ideal companion when you are likely to go on a long tour every now and then.

The chopped tour pack is for the casual rider

The chopped, which is the mid-size tour pack, on the list would be an ideal option for the casual rider. The medium space will allow you to carry moderate accessories inside of it. When you tend to go out with your Harley for about two to three days a week, this tour pack should be an ideal companion that you can have for your Harley.

The Razor is for all-day users.

When you need to go out every day and need to carry a smaller amount of accessories with you, the Razor tour pack can come out to be the most ideal option available on this list.

It is indeed true that Razor is smaller than compared to the rest of the counterparts. But that is what makes it ideal for the everyday user.

When you need to carry a simple backpack with a laptop inside of it, the Razor is the ideal supplement. Besides, carrying a half-face helmet or even a sleeping bag is also possible when you have a Razor tour pack.

Are you find harley davidson riding boots for women see out previous article.

Final summary

  • A tour pack can always turn out to be an ideal companion to make any kind of touring ride more comfortable and convenient.
  • When it comes to picking up a tour pack for the Harley Davidson, the Razor, chopped, and King are the three most popular and convenient tour packs available.
  • Pick up the King pack when you need a larger space to go on a long tour.
  • The chopped version should fit better when you regularly go for a casual drive.
  • The Razor tour pack should make any everyday rider comfortable with its versatility.

Chopped vs. Razor Tour Pack: Which one is User-Friendly

It is very liberating to ride away on rear wheels with whatever you require for a trekking or multi-day trip strapped to your bike. However, some bike tourers may disagree, criticizing it as unpleasant, heavy, and shaky. Although a motorcycle laden with gear will indeed feel different and with a little help from the tour packs.

You will be able to carry your stuff, so they stay available throughout the ride without significantly affecting your bike’s stability and performance. Having a tour pack by your side can prevent unnecessary hassle and tension about finding the important things that are needed in the middle of a tour.

This article is going to emphasize the size of the tour packs- Chopped VS Razor Tour Pack. This is an ongoing debate that continues which one to buy and which one is best for what. The tour packs are made for bike riders to make their journey easy, so you can understand that tour packs are very user-friendly.

Chopped Vs Razor Tour Pack: Definite Comparison:

The main difference is the size and the amount it costs. They both have similar types of backrests, so you do not compare in this sector.

Chopped Vs Razor Tour Pack: Overview of Both the Products

Bike riders usually face a lot of difficulties while choosing their tour pack. The consistent bike riders can also buy multiple Tour packs; they want one for daily use, one for packing up for long trips. But some riders do not want to buy multiples and are confused between the chopped and razor tour packs, which match and fit with their routine and what looks good with the bike as well.

Specifications

Chopped tour pack:.

The usual Chopped tour pack is injection-molded ABS plastic, painted vivid black to match the bikes, for a smooth surface and form-fitting fit. Usually, the lid and bottom are painted vivid black, the latches and locks are set up with keys, the hinges are installed, and the whole box is weather-stripped.

Most of the chopped tour pack arrives pre-installed except for the backrest. But it is not an issue as you can find the drilled bracket holds, where you can install it yourself. The tour pack fits very fine as long as you match it up to your correct quick-release mounting hardware.

To cut out on a tour-pack base to accommodate a drilled mounting hole from a 2013 or prior model, make sure that you’re getting a unit compatible with that hardware.

Razor Tour Pack :

The materials used to make a razor tour pack are similar to a chopped tour pack. They come with very high-quality painting, so you can start using them right from the moment it is bought. There is no extra hassle for painting or setting stuff as they are found in different colors and sometimes can be custom-made.

The razor tour pack comes with all the items pre-installed. It has chrome latches on one side and chrome hinges on another side. There is a tethering system that prevents the lid from falling back, and as it is retractable, it sucks in the cable as it closes. So you do not have to worry about the cable dangling outside the box.

It has a compact rubber seal in it; it locks the pack as you push it down. They also come with lock systems, so you are also getting safety assurance here.

Size Comparison

It is very clear to you by now that the chopped tour pack is bigger than the razor tour pack. The chopped pack comes with bigger package dimensions in inches than a razor pack. In a chopped tour pack, you can carry more things for a longer road trip if you are moving for several days or weeks. Whereas, you can use a razor pack for daily uses.

You might be confused thinking that a razor pack cannot be used on longer trips. You can also use that if you travel alone. A chopped pack weighs about 20.1 pounds, and a razor pack weighs about ‎21.9 pounds. Riding a bike with a chopped tour pack will feel heavier than a razor tour pack. The only thing that changes is the depth.

The tour packs are a little bit thinner in the back than they are in the front. The back end of a razor is usually about 7.9 inches, and the front is 9.8 inches tall. In a chopped pack, it is about 8.7 inches at the back and 11 inches in the front. This measurement does not include the backrest.

On the razor, you can fit two skid lid half helmets side by side and pack stuff around it. The chopped can fit all these. Also, you can fit three-quarter face helmets, including laptops, etc. Therefore, for pretty much everyday use, on the roads, riders usually prefer the razor packs as they are low, sleek-looking, and flow with the bike real smooth.

You do not need to worry about the durability of the tour packs. The materials that are used to make the tour packs are made to resist extreme heat, rain, and other weather conditions. Tour packs are not only used daily but also on week-long trips. In both cases, the tour packs are modeled to give full safety to the things that you are carrying.

Some riders worry if they keep helmets or are heavy will it affect the tour pack or not. Now, anything happening for a longer period will have some effect, but that happens with every other thing.

Flexibility

The tour packs are best known for their flexibility. You can use the same tour packs on different bikes as well as different tour packs on the same bike. This design of the tour packs of both the chopped and razor are made in such a manner that you can use both as per your needs.

Cost Comparison

The price of the chopped tour pack is usually from $300- $350, and the razor packs are from $180-$250. This huge difference is because of the size. A chopper can hold much more things than a razor.

The prices can vary due to special features and guarantees provided by the brands. If you think you want to go for fancier or sleek-looking tour packs, you can go for bigger brands. They might also provide better lock systems with more safety.

Chopped Vs Razor Tour Pack; which one to choose?

For choosing between the two tour packs, you have to know the number of things you will be carrying with you. Choosing a razor pack will cover your daily works however choosing a chopped tour pack will work for both daily uses and long trips.

According to my research and understanding of the product, I think that the better one is the chopped tour pack. Now, if you want to buy one of them and use it for multi-purposes then I think you should go for the chopped tour pack.

Can you find everything that you need to put the tour pack on with the tour pack package?

With the tour pack, of course, you will get a backrest, tour pack, latches, hinges, lock system. This bracket is needed because it slips down on the docking system that is installed on your bike, which also makes it detached. Therefore, this docking system is a separate purchase.

Will a helmet fit in a chopped Tour pack?

Are you wondering if the Chopped Tour Pack includes full-face helmets? In general, no, you can’t fit a full face helmet on a chopped tour pack.

Which one is the best for multi-day tours?

This is a personal choice from my point of view. You can, of course, choose to save some bucks and put limitations on the things you want to carry. But for the riders who want to carry cameras and a sufficient amount of clothing with other necessities, a chopped one will be the best for you.

Deciding between the Chopped Vs. Razor Tour Pack is not easy all time. The price is usually almost half less than a razor pack, and the size is a bit smaller, especially if you want to go for longer rides. You have to take into consideration the type of tours you usually take or will take before buying one. You’ve to ensure you can ride one person or more before purchasing because both have huge size differences. Now, what I recommend is that you better keep in mind the number of days you are traveling and whom you are traveling with. Keeping these things in mind, you can easily decide which one suits you the most.
