The Witcher 3: Ugly Baby Main Quest Walkthrough

If you're stuck somewhere in The Witcher 3's Ugly Baby questline, we've got you covered with this guide and walkthrough.

Quick Links

No place like home, completing ugly baby.

If you're stuck somewhere along the long, convoluted path of the 'Ugly Baby' quest, you're not alone. This chain of events in The Witcher 3 has muddled many a player's senses at one point or another. That's why we've mapped it all out and are here to walk you through it!

RELATED: The Witcher 3: The Bloody Baron Main Quest Walkthrough In this guide, you will find handy tips and tricks for defeating the various monsters Geralt will encounter, along with how to overcome some of the more obscure obstacles he will face.

Updated on December 28, 2022 by Quinton O'Connor: In a rare editing stroke of guide size reduction, we've removed some of the in-between quests related to 'Ugly Baby', as we now have more in-depth guides one each. We've also tidied things up a bit wherever possible to make for a smoother reading experience!

Following Ciri's trail in Skellige , Geralt will discover that she and an elven mage were fleeing the wild hunt and disappeared upon a narrow escape. He'll also learn of a strange baby-like monstrosity later appearing at the site of the duo's disappearance. When searching for Ciri in the intended order, Geralt will have already met Uma at Crow's Perch in Velen and connect him to the creature that appeared in Skellige, thus beginning the 'Ugly Baby' quest.

Collecting Uma

Geralt's first objective will be to collect Uma from Crow's Perch. If you haven't completed the ' Return to Crookback Bog ' quest, return to the Baron and ask to take Uma. If Geralt's already gone with the Baron to Crookback Bog, then he will need to talk to the Baron's Sergeant. Either way, he will find one of the two in the Baron's office at Crow's Perch.

Next, head over to the stables to the right of the Baron's building, and tell the stablemaster standing outside that you are taking Uma. After a bit of dialogue, a cutscene will trigger, and Geralt will set off for Kaer Morhen with Uma. As they're approaching the keep, Geralt will be stopped by Nilfgaardian troops and taken to an impatient Emperor Emhyr . Your job is to convince Emhyr that Uma is a solid lead in finding Ciri before you can continue on to Kaer Morhen with Uma.

Arriving in Kaer Morhen

Your first objective at Kaer Morhen will be to see Yenn in the keep, which will start a chain of additional quests you'll need to complete before you're able to resume 'Ugly Baby.' The quests ' Disturbance ,' ' To Bait A Forktail ,' and ' The Final Trial ' are prerequisites to the final link in the chain, ' No Place Like Home, ' and can be completed in any order. However, 'Disturbance' sets the stage for the other two.

As a side note, you'll likely stumble across a dilapidated bed on your way into the keep that has been discarded into the middle of the inner courtyard. Upon examination, you'll find Triss's earring, which you can return to her later if you wish.

With preparations now complete, Vesemir takes Uma to attempt lifting the curse himself before letting Yennefer proceed with her plan. So this quest is all about killing time until he returns.

The witchers, along with Yennefer, will choose to spend the time drinking and catching up. Yennefer reveals during the conversation, if Vesemir fails, she plans to conduct The Trial of The Grasses on Uma, the alchemical experiment that causes a witcher's mutations.

There are several dialogue options throughout the conversation, to which Geralt may respond how he wishes until Yennefer pulls him aside. I f you completed 'The Last Wish' and professed true feelings for Yennefer, there is optional dialogue to accept her proposition to sneak off for an intimate moment. If you rejected Yenn or did not complete the quest, there is no option for another romp with her.

Eventually, you can choose to have Geralt go to bed or keep talking. It's recommended to keep talking a while longer as Geralt will be rewarded XP shortly after.

If you keep talking, Lambert eventually suggests using the megascope to call some sorceresses to the party. Geralt again has the option to go to sleep or go through with Lambert's poorly thought out plan . There are no lasting consequences to your decision, nor any non-narrative rewards. Whenever Geralt calls it a night — or Yennefer puts an end to their antics — 'No Place Like Home' will complete.

Once Vesemir returns, Geralt will be tasked with brewing the Decoction of The Grasses. If he's missing any of the ingredients, he will find them all in a nearby chest. Then simply brew the potion via the alchemy tab and bring it to Yennefer. At long last, 'Ugly Baby' will be complete after the ritual's through.

Don't be too hasty in starting this long winding path. Along with passing up Yennefer's 'The Last Wish' quest, which subsequently fails to romance her, collecting Uma from Crow's Perch also auto-fails Lambert's 'Following The Thread.' So be sure Geralt has accomplished these ventures before setting out on this journey.

Older Patches

To get poor Dax's sword back, go to The Bottomless Well and as you will see there's no way down, which is why we needed the rope. Put it on the branch hanging over the well, though get ready for a fight before climbing down; a group of rats that will probably surround you. It's best to use a spell such as Invisibility before going down, or Fear after you get down. Once you have killed the rats around the bottom of the rope, you will have to find your way through the maze for the stairs leading down to the next level.

When you find your way to level 26 you need to find the Statue of the Demon. This room contains 2 Thieves (such as Voxer in Arydl) and 4 nests, though this time they spawn spiders instead of wasps. The best way I've found to kill the thieves was to just stone curse them. As for the nests and spiders, my usual method of Invisibility and Fear.

After finishing off the thieves and nests, click on the statue and take the Ruby from inside. Remember Voxer in the land of Ardyl asking for a red ruby? Well this one would be quite appropriate, though it's probably quicker to finish these dungeons first, as there's more involved after you give him the ruby.

Now go down to level 28 (ignore the rest of level 27 for now) and find The Band's Lair. In here you will find a group of Usurpers (fake Santa's), and one of them has The Sword of Dax. Also in the lair is a red chest which contains The Cell Key, take this key back up to the Prison in level 27, kill the one guard and free the real Santa Claus. When you talk to Santa he will thank you for freeing him, but says he is still sad as he's missing a gift.

Now go back up to Serkesh and give Dax his sword back, and he will then give you his Mother's personal diary. Give this to Dax's Father at The Gariks' Farmstead, and he will reward you with the Crystal of Strength. This is all you really need to do if you just want to kill Draak, though there is a little more to the quest just for fun.

You can also use the Master Key to get into the back of The Toy Merchant's shop, and you will find A Rogues' Ring in there, though I'm not sure what it's used for.

Dragon Dogma 2’s cursed endgame is nothing but dessert

Is easy fast travel worth the apocalypse?

Share All sharing options for: Dragon Dogma 2’s cursed endgame is nothing but dessert

A massive storm wreaks havoc on the Unmoored World in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is about the journey, not the destination. It’s about exploring routes you’ve never taken before, camping in the wilderness, and having an unexpected run in with a Minotaur. Quests objectives are also left intentionally vague, forcing you to puzzle things out and speak to as many people as you can. If you could just easily fast travel to obvious quest markers you could certainly check them off your list more efficiently, but then you’d miss out entirely on the adventure of getting there.

[ Ed. note: This post contains spoilers for the Dragon’s Dogma 2 endgame.]

Then, you beat the game and the credits roll. However, if you don’t like that “ending” you can start the apocalypse instead. The sky turns an ugly crimson; the oceans dry up; the dead rise from their ancient graves. It’s rough out there.

Your goals then become much simpler in this Unmoored World . Just go to four points on the map and do two things:

  • Defeat a boss monster
  • Help any nearby townsfolk evacuate to a central city

To make this task easier, the game tweaks or outright removes a bunch of its mechanical friction. More fast travel hubs called portcrystals appear on the map, making it much easier to just fast travel to each quest marker. This wouldn’t have mattered much earlier in the game since you need to use up a rare ferrystone each time you fast travel, but now, monsters drop this item regularly. With all the lakes, rivers, and oceans dried up, you aren’t forced to take out-of-the-way bridges to reach your destination, either.

As you rescue each town, you also begin to assemble a central hub town that makes optimizing your gear much easier. All four blacksmith types eventually reside there, along with the duplicator and the Dragonforged. Instead of running all around the map to craft the best weapons, everybody you need is a few efficient steps away. It’s also much easier to get the best enhancement materials since high level monsters start prowling everywhere, especially in the dried up oceans.

A dragon recoils from damage in Dragon’s Dogma 2

I didn’t actually go to the Unmoored World right away. Instead, I started a new game plus after defeating the Dragon so I could experience some of the quests I’d missed from earlier in the game and level up more of my vocations. So after weeks of playing the game and absorbing complaints about its fast travel and “game-breaking” microtransactions , the Unmoored World’s design choices almost felt like a response. Here’s everything you were screaming for: easy fast travel, an efficient hub world, and no-nonsense quest design!

This tracks with the game’s narrative too. You’ve broken all the rules to get to this place, so the game’s rules are broken too. You’ve taken on god(?) and ushered in a new, albeit broken, world where the game doesn’t get in your way of completing your tasks and doing what you want.

But once you finish the simple objectives in front of you and there’s nothing left to do, eating all of this dessert gets boring. You aren’t really seeing the countryside anymore – just blinking from portcrystal to portcrystal. You’ll quickly tire of returning the undead to their graves since they never stop rising from the ground. You can’t even enjoy camping with your pawns anymore because of the aforementioned undead and also because time is itself a crucial resource as you rush to rescue everyone while resting as little as possible. Eventually, the day/night cycle blurs into one unending twilight and you can’t rest at all anymore as time figuratively stops.

You can play this way as long as you’ve got wakestones to heal yourself, farming high level monsters to enhance your gear, but it eventually feels hollow without any of Dragon Dogma’s 2 weird charms . It’s fun to revel in the excesses of the late game but it also puts into sharp relief why the developers made the decisions they did about fast travel and quest design. When you finally tire of this broken but very efficient world, you can end the apocalypse by starting a new game plus, more ready than ever to just enjoy the journey.

How to complete the Stranger Danger quest in Destiny 2

Image of Pedro Peres

Stranger Danger is among the first quests in Into the Light, and it opens up mechanics you’ll need if you want to make the most of the update’s content.

The reward for this quest is Elsie’s Rifle , a retuned version of the Stranger’s Rifle in Destiny (though she’s not a stranger anymore). Your shiny new gun isn’t the only reward, however: it also lets you attune to weapons and unlocks the quests you’ll need to chase the rest of the BRAVE Arsenal . Here’s what you need to know about this quest.

How to start the Stranger Danger quest in Destiny 2

The Stranger Danger quest is tied to the Into the Light introductory quest, Feats of Bravery. You can start Feats of Bravery by speaking to Lord Shaxx in the Hall of Champions, available through its own node in the Destinations tab. Completing Stranger Danger is the last major requirement for the introductory quest, which should get you ready for Onslaught and its associated mechanics.

The regular version of Elsie's Rifle in Destiny 2, as seen in Collections.

Stranger Danger quest objectives and how to complete them

Stranger Danger has three simple objectives:

  • The first objective gains bonus progress from kills in Onslaught. The second gains progress from higher-difficulty Nightfalls.
  • Attune to Elsie’s Rifle in the Hall of Champions.
  • Return to Lord Shaxx.

Stranger Danger is a simple quest, though it opens the way for several other vital objectives in the BRAVE Arsenal. It unlocks the Attunement mechanic , which is essential for farming for BRAVE weapons and their god rolls, and it also kicks off Arcite 99-40’s quests.

Stranger Danger quest: Best spots to kill enemies with pulse rifles in Destiny 2

The Stranger Danger quest only requires you to obtain kills with pulse rifles, so it’s relatively quick to finish. Diving into Onslaught may be the most fun way to do so, and depending on your accuracy and your weapon of choice, you can get this done in one go. Taking a pulse with you as you grind Nightfalls can also get you to your objective without diverting your attention.

If you’re just after quick kills, though, here are our favorite spots:

  • The Shuro Chi checkpoint in the Last Wish raid
  • The entrance to the Grasp of Avarice dungeon from the 30th Anniversary pack
  • Altars of Sorrow on the Moon
  • Any Lost Sector with lots of enemies, such as Aphelion’s Rest in the Dreaming City or the triple Lost Sectors around Trostland in the EDZ.

When Elon Musk set up Tesla’s factory in China, he made a bet that brought him cheap parts and capable workers — a bet that made him ultrarich and saved his company.

Mara Hvistendahl, an investigative reporter for The Times, explains why, now, that lifeline may have given China the tools to beat Tesla at its own game.
