Great service, fast and fun

Posted by Unknown on Jun 10th 2022

The cruise ship let and arrived when it was supposed to. Shuttled you to the hotel and it’s easy to get pretty much anywhere on the island from there. The boat had comfortable inside seats with windows and also an outdoor deck area. They sell food/booze. Pricey but what can you do. It was super rough on our way out but can’t control Mother Nature. It was still fun. Smooth on the way home. Will def use this service again!

Amazing Trip - LOVE Bimini!

Posted by Unknown on Jan 21st 2019

We left on Dec 24th - and this is the only way to go! From check in at the Port of Miami - which was quick & easy - to hopping on the ferry and the great crew that took care of us - to the arrival in Bimini (we highly recommend arranging for a golf cart while on the ferry over) - to the incredible week visit we had & our return home - it couldn't have been better! We were there over the Christmas holiday. We both were concerned about getting sea sick so we planned ahead and started with our Dramamine the day prior. We heard that folks were ill because the water was rough due to the weather & wind - but we didn't have any issue. We did the same on the way back. Better to be prepared than not! And certainly the crew can't help the weather! So prepare yourself! The ferry ride there & back was really great. The return one being so dark out- wasn't much to see - but everything was seamless. We will never fly again when we can go this route. It was less stressful - more fun and we thoroughly enjoyed it!

Day trip to Bahamas . Although a day trip to the Bahamas may seem like a short trip, it is actually a trip to paradise. Miami, and the southern coast of Florida, are only 60 miles from the Bahama Islands (58,8 miles to Bimini and 96,7 miles to Freeport, in Grand Bahama island). Bustling Miami, teeming with people, traffic jams and high-rise business buildings, is just a stone's throw away from the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean and the tranquility of the Bahamas.

The Bahamas are a group of more than 700 islands, very famous for their warm climate throughout the year, their cuisine based on fish and shellfish and their beautiful beaches, almost virgin, that will take your breath away. The perfect place to make a day trip from Miami.

You can also take a day trip to Freeport, on Grand Bahama Island, another of the magnificent islands in the Bahamas that are close to Miami and Florida. From Fort Lauderdale the fast ferry takes only 3 hours to navigate and, although it may seem like a short time, your total stay on the island is the best and cheapest option to get to know a little bit of the Bahamas. And if you like it you can always come back and stay for several days.

Those who do not know these islands can visit them on a day trip to the Bahamas, by ferry or by plane, and find out if their next trip will be a 2, 3 or 4 day trip to the Bahamas or not.If you are on vacation in Miami (or in the south of the Florida) you can also take advantage of a one-day getaway to the Bahamas. More fun for little money.

Day trip to Bahamas from Miami Lately everyone in Miami wants to go to the Bahamas: some want to take a day trip and get to know Bimini, others - the younger ones - want to celebrate Spring Break on the beaches of Grand Bahama with All Inclusive and couples prefer to relax on the white sand beaches and crystal clear water to celebrate Memorial Day, for example.

Just 2 hours by ferry from Fort Lauderdale (30-45 minute drive from Miami) Bimini is the closest Bahamian island to Florida. To get to Grand Bahama from Miami - Fort Lauderdale it takes 3 hours by ferry. Balearia Caribbean is the shipping company that makes this connection. Because the distance between Miami - Florida and these islands of the Bahamas is so short, it is easy to make a 2, 3, 4 and 5 day trip to the Bahamas and stay in some of the hotels on the islands ( Hilton World Resorts Bimini in Bimini island and Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach All Inclusive hotel , Grand Lucayan Bahamas hotel , Flamingo Bay Hotel & Marina , Grand Lucayan Light House Pointe , Island Seas Resort , Taino Beach Resort hotel , Pelican Bay Resort hotel , Castaways Resort hotel and Bell Channel Inn hotel in Grand Bahama island), some of them even with All Inclusive packages.

We recommend this one day trip to Bimini (Bahamas) or to Grand Bahama island, to all those who live in one of the following cities, or in their vicinity: Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Hialeah, Port St. Luice, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood, Miramar, Coral Springs, West Palm Beach (all Palm Beach, North and South, Royal and Palm Beach Gardens), Pompano Beach, Miami Gardens, Davie, Boca Raton and Sunrise.

Most of the time, the best way for those living near Miami to travel to the Bahams is by ferry or plane. If your vacation destination is Bimini or Grand Bahama, it is better to go by ferry from Fort Lauderdale. It will take between 2 to 3 hours by ferry. From here you can access to our search engine for ferry to Bahamas .

If you prefer to travel to other islands of the Bahamas, such as Nassau or Exuma, it is better to travel by plane. You can find cheap hotels and flights to the Bahamas from Miami at this link: Hotels in Bahamas .

2 day trip to Bahamas

Day trip to Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale is the city where the shipping company Balearia Caribbean has its headquarters and from where the ship Jaume II departs every day for the Bahamas (sometimes to Bimini and other times to Grand Bahama - Freeport).

Remember that if you are going to board the Bimini ferry you have to be at the passenger terminal 3 hours before the scheduled boarding date. Boarding closes one hour before the ferry departure time. After this time Balearia Caribbean will not let you access the ship. We advise you to be in Port Everglade in plenty of time to board the ferry to the Bahamas.

For those of you who live in Fort Lauderdale, or near Fort Lauderdale, an hour's drive from Fort Lauderdale for example, it is very interesting to do this one day trip to the Bahamas, whether it is to Bimini or Freeport (Grand Bahama).

Getting to Fort Lauderdale from many Florida cities will take no more than an hour by car. Miami, Hialeah, Port St. Lucie and West Palm Beach are some big cities that are within a 1-hour drive from Fort Lauderdale. Other cities, such as Pembroke Pines, Hollywood, Miramar or Coral Springs, are located more or less 30 minutes by car from Fort Lauderdale and, therefore, it is very easy to get to the ferry terminal to the Bahamas with your car and enjoy your one day trip to Bahamas.

3 day trip to Bahamas

Bimini day trip . Bimini is the closest Bahamian island off the coast of Florida (USA) and the fastest way to get to the island is by ferry from Fort Lauderdale (30-45 minute drive from Miami). From Fort Lauderdale there are between 2 to 4 departures a week (depending on the month of the year), and the shipping company that does it is Balearia Caribbean. The trip between Fort Lauderdale and Bimini takes two hours and departs from the Port Everglades docks in Fort Lauderdale.

The ferry arrives at the pier in Alice Town (North Bimini) from where you can rent a golf car to explore this small island and go to one of its beautiful beaches, one of its famous beach clubs, where you can spend the day, or at the Hilton at World Resorts Bimini Hotel and Casino where you can also spend the day paying an extra admission.

During the ferry ride you can enjoy an outdoor deck and a cafeteria where you can order hamburgers, soft drinks or hot drinks. Once in Bimini we advise you to enjoy a refreshing seafood salad or grilled fish on the seafront. The lobster salad is also one of those dishes that you should not miss. Bury your feet in the white sand as your senses marvel at the culinary spectacle. Luxury turned into food.

Of course you should not forget a refreshing cocktail where you will notice the Caribbean character of its people. Ask for it with a little spice. Tabasco, lime and salt will give life to your drink.

If you like sea sports you can snorkel, swim with dolphins, kayak and paddle surf. Other sports, such as diving, feeding sharks or jet skiing, are recommended for longer stays in Bimini, from 2 to 5 day trips.

Discover the Hilton at Resorts World Bimini and prepare your next 3 or 4 day trip to the Bahamas. This hotel has panoramic views of the sea and the marina, more than ten restaurants, a casino and a roof pool that will make Instagrammers fall in love.

On a day trip to Bimini you will be between 5 and 6 hours on the island, so we recommend that you simply enjoy one of its beaches, try the local food and plan your next getaway to Bimini to spend your next vacation on the island with one of the ferry plus hotel packages.

4 day trip to Bahamas

5 day trip to Bahamas

ferry or crusie day trip

If you are thinking about which is better, whether to do a ferry one day trip or a cruise one day trip to the Bahamas, we are going to present you the advantages and disadvantages of each of them, in our opinion.

ferry one day trip to bahamas, Pros: It only takes 2 hours from leaving Fort Lauderdale to arriving in Bimini - 3 hours if you do your one day trip to Grand Bahama. Traveling by ferry to the Bahamas makes the most of your time in Bimini (6 hours) or in Grand Bahama (5 hours).

Bahamas Cruise Day Trip, Pros: Cruise ships usually have pools, bars, entertainment. As soon as you leave Miami for the Bahamas, your vacation begins. As a rule, the ferry does not have a swimming pool and has a small cafeteria.

Bahamas Cruise Day Trip: Pros: On cruises you have the option to purchase All Inclusive beverage packages. From the moment you get on the cruise you are entitled to your drinks.

You can take a day trip to the Bahamas by ferry almost every day. Some days to Bimini and other days to Grand Bahama. One day (really one night) cruises have fewer departures and less flexibility in dates. In addition, with the ferry you can travel on a one day trip to the Bahamas all year round, while cruise ships usually do these mini cruises (1 or 2 nights) normally in low season.

As you can see, doing a one day trip to Bimini (or Bahamas) by ferry or on a cruise is very different. In addition to the price, there are other factors that you must take into account when choosing your next vacation in the Bahamas. But most importantly, never give up on the Bahamas vacations, whether you're vacationing at a resort in Bimini (Hilton for example) or cruising in Nassau or Exuma.

Book your one day trip to the Bahamas as soon as possible and get the best prices and offers.

On that date, the super fast ferry "San Gwann" made the connection between Miami and Bimini Island. As of this date, it also began to carry out this route that took clients from Miami to Freeport in 3 hours.

The FRS Caribbean ferry San Gwann had a capacity for 427 passengers seated in seats. In addition, this FRS Caribbean ferry was equipped with: 2 bars on the passenger decks, where passengers can buy snacks and soft drinks during their trip, a tax free shop for souvenirs and gifts. FRS Caribbean had its headquarters in Port Miami, Terminal H, where passengers could park their car nearby during the day or night. With this new line, and the Bimini ferry line, FRS Caribbean continued to bet on the development of maritime connections between Florida and the Bahamas, although a couple of years later it left the Caribbean and suspended all its operations.

Bahamas for vaccinated tourists

Bahamas will allow the arrival of vaccinated tourists from May 1st

April 26, 2021

Bahamas for vaccinated tourists from May 1st

Updated on the April 26th, 2021

With the idea of seeking stimuli to reactivate tourism in the Bahamas islands from next May 1st, tourists vaccinated with the 2 doses will be able to travel to the Bahamas without having to present a negative COVID 19 test result.

The Bahamas islands will allow all those people who have received the full doses of immunization, at least two weeks before traveling, to the country to enter the country. Negative PCR with up to 5 days of validity is required for the rest of the travelers.

Prime Minister Hubert Minnis announced at a press conference that: "All that will be medically required to enter the country will be the proof of vaccination and that two weeks have passed since the final dose." This measure wants to activate tourism as soon as possible, on which the Caribbean archipelago largely depends.

The prime minister indicated that anyone who has not been fully vaccinated must provide a negative PCR test taken within five days prior to arrival in the Bahamas. "This measure will greatly enhance our economy and will also help reduce the number of infections. When tourists are fully vaccinated, since they will have received all the doses, they will be able to participate in events in a closed environment where the mask would not be necessary".

This measure has been announced when several cruise lines (Royal Caribbean, Crystal Cruises and Bahamas Paradise Cruise Lines) are going to start sailing in the Bahamas from June and July, this coming summer.

Warning in the United States. On the other hand, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) raised the warning level for the Bahamas this week to the highest level of health risk, the 4.

Fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk of contracting and spreading covid-19 variants, due to the current situation in the Bahamas, so all trips to the archipelago should be avoided," says the updated advice from the CDC. The United States recommends not traveling to 80% of the world's countries.

The Bahamas has reported 10,000 infections and 194 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, with a population of around 400,000 people. There are currently just over 500 active cases in the nation. Not everyone has been in favor of this decision, although many sectors of the Bahamas, dependent on tourism, want to reactivate their economy as soon as possible.

As of today, April 26th, 2021, less than 4% of the total population of the Bahamas has received the first dose of the vaccine.

Bahamas will allow the arrival of vaccinated tourists

Ferry to Bahamas relaunched

Ferry to Bahamas relaunched on Febraury 2021 from Port Lauderdale (Florida) with Balearia company

February 02, 2021

Balearia Caribbean will relaunch its ferry service from Florida to the Bahamas on Febraury 2021, departing from Fort Lauderdale port. The South Florida-based company runs ferry services from Fort Lauderdale to Bimini first and from Port Everglades to Freeport (Grand Bahama island).

The company announced last week that the Government of the Bahamas has approved the launch of the fast ferry service between Miami (Fort Lauderdale) and Grand Bahama (Freeport) in the Bahamas. His first departure to Freeport is scheduled for February 11, 2021.

Balearia will be offering initially one sailing service a week, with ferry on Thurdays. At the end of Febraury, another ferry service will be implemented on Sundays. If there is an increase in demand for passenger transport, the shipping company is prepared to increase the number of weekly departures in March and April.

At the same time, Balearia will reopen the ferry route between Florida to Bimini island starting on February 10th, 2021. This route will have, at the moment, a frequency of 3 departures a week, in both directions. The Jaume II ferry will be the ship that does both routes.

Balearia will retake its operations with a host of new health and safety protocols, including mandatory face masks, electronic boarding passes, enforced social distancing and temperature checks prior to boarding, and only 40% occupancy of the total capacity of its ferry.

Other sanitary measures imposed by Balearia are: plexiglass dividers have been placed in the common areas and between all the seats, the ship and the ferry terminals are subjected to a deep and extensive cleaning process before, during and after each crossing.

The company’s ships also undergo “deep and extensive sanitation” before, during and after each sailing, the company said. Balearia says it has been certified by Bureau Veritas with the Global Safe Site Covid-19 certificate, one of the first shipping companies to receive the designation. It should be noted that all travelers to The Bahamas must fill out an electronic travel form and have proof of a negative COVID-19 test that is no more than seven days old, among other requirements.

All passengers boarding from Fort Lauderdale (Florida) to Grand Bahama or Bimini (Bahamas) will have to show a negative PCR test for COVID-19 performed at least 5 days before the trip. Each passenger must also apply for a travel health visa.

NOTE: We recommend that all passengers verify all the necessary travel requirements at the time of their trip, both in and out of the countries they are going to visit, always before starting with the preparations and purchases of their ferry tickets.

To keep up to date and have all the information, safety and travel protocols in the Bahamas, you can visit the websites http://travel.gov.bs (Bahamas) and https://travel.state.gov (United States). The reopening of the shipping routes between Grand Bahama and the United States is expected to increase the number of visitors to Grand Bahama island and help recover the jobs lost due to Covid-19 and mitigate the economic effects of the pandemic.

Before boarding, a member of the Balearia Caribbean staff takes the body temperature of all passengers who are going to make the trip. If the reading of this temperature is higher than 100º Fahrenheit or 37.7º Celsius, the passenger will be denied boarding on the ferry.

While in the ferry terminals and on board the boats throughout the navigation, the use of a mask or face cover is always mandatory for all passengers.

With the safety and hygiene of passengers in mind, Balearia Caribbean has installed additional disinfectant dispensers in all its terminals and on board the ship.

Plexiglass dividers and informational signs have also been placed in different areas throughout the vessel to promote safe distances between passengers and the crew members.

You can contact Balearia Caribbean directly by email ([email protected] or [email protected]) or by phone (866) 699-6988 to resolve any questions you may have.

There are many great ways to spend your day visiting Bimini. Whether you want to relax on the beach, snorkel, or go on a jetski adventure, there is something for everyone. Recently, we visited Bimini and had an amazing time!

Bimini Cruise Port

Bimini Bahamas cruise port

The Resorts World Bimini Cruise Port is a new cruise port that accommodates the world’s largest cruise ships and vessels of all sizes. The cruise port is within walking distance of the Resorts World Bimini Complex.

Since this is a newer cruise port, the pier is charming and less developed. Unlike other Caribbean cruise destinations, which house popular cruise port shops including Diamonds International, this isn’t the case with Bimini. Instead, there are local shops to purchase souvenirs and crafts.

Bimini cruise port can accommodate two cruise ships at a time, making this island a nice change from busier ports of call. Cruise passengers can take a taxi, a shuttle service, or use a tour guide to visit the island.

What Cruise Passengers Need to Know About Bimini Cruise Port

Bimini Bahamas cruise port

The Bahamian dollar ($BSD) is the official currency for the Bahamas. However, U.S. currency is widely accepted and usually given as change in the Bahamas.

In Bimini, the majority of businesses and restaurants accept U.S. cast of credit cards. Furthermore, local vendors will accept U.S. money when you’re shopping for souvenirs.

English is the official language of the Bahamas. However, locals may speak Bahamianese or Creole. For the most part, everyone speaks and understands English in Bimini.

Since Bimini is located in the Bahamas, it operates on Eastern Standard Time. Furthermore, the cruise ship’s time will be the same as the time on land.

Typically, when you visit Bimini, the temperatures range from 60 degrees in the winter to 90 degrees in the summer. However, the breeze from the ocean makes it feel a bit cooler.

The water temperatures vary between 77 degrees in the middle of winter and 87 degrees in the summer.

Getting Around Bimini

Although Bimini is only 7 miles long, there are a few ways to get around the island.

Here are a few ways you can get around Bimini:

Resorts World Tram

Bimini Bahamas cruise port

The Resorts Worlds tram service operates every 30 minutes and makes several stops around the Island. In fact there’s a stop right within short walking distance at the cruise port.

The tram is completely free and available for anyone to use. However, keep in mind that it will only take you to the Resort World properties, where you can visit the casino, beach, resorts, and restaurants.

You’ll find the free pick-up location right outside your cruise ship. It’s easy to find the pick-up location, and many people use the tram when visiting Bimini.

When you visit Bimini, there will be taxi services available. The taxi rates vary depending on where you want to go, but the common fare is between $5-$10 per person. Since the cruise port is the midway point of the island, the southern and northern parts are equal distances from the pier.

By Golf Cart

Bimini Bahamas cruise port golf cart rental

There are a few golf cart rental companies that operate in Bimini. They charge approximately $90 per day for a four-seater and $120 for a six-seater. Golf cart rentals are a great way to explore the beautiful island.

Tip: I have heard from other cruisers that there may be some room to negotiate prices.

If you want to stay close to the cruise port, you can always walk to your destination. Bimini is a small island and is very walkable!

The Resorts World Hilton resort is a 10-15 minute walk from the cruise ship. Bring water if you plan to walk because it can be very hot in Bimini.

Kayak Beach is the closest beach to the cruise port. If you want to visit Kayak Beach, you can walk there or take the tram. It’s a 2 minute walk from the cruise ship, or it’s the first tram stop.

We found out about Kayak Beach through the crew members. When they visit Bimini, Kayak Beach is there go-to beach.

At Kayak Beach, you can rent a Kayak, lounge chairs, and relax in the calm waters. Overall, Kayak Beach is a great option for those who want to spend the day at the beach, while staying near the cruise ship.

12. Radio Beach

Radio Beach is a free local beach with beautiful turquoise waters. If you’re looking for something “off the beaten path,” you’ll love Radio Beach.

13. Fountain of Youth

In the 1500s, explorer Juan Ponce de León learned that Bimini was the site of the Fountain of Youth. According to an old legend, the spring water supposedly restored youth to those who drank or bathed in the water.

In 1513, Ponce De León set sail from Puorto Rico to Bimini. Unfortunately, he could never find the fountain of youth in Bimini, but he did go on to discover Florida and the Gulf Stream instead.

Today, you can visit a natural wellspring that the locals claim to be the fountain of youth. The locals believe that the mineral water from the springs brings good health and youth to those who drink it.

14. Visit The Bimini Museum

Built in 1921, the Bimini Museum was once the Commissioner’s Office and jail. However, it was abandoned in 1974. In 1999, the building was restored by Sir Michael and Lady Barbara Checkly.

Are there words more fun to say than “I’m cruising to Bimini!”? The name rolls off the tongue delightfully, for sure… but the whole phrase means you’re in for a beautiful, uniquely chill time in this island chain. The center of the action is Alice Town, though “action” is relative when it comes to these westernmost islands of The Bahamas. The local aesthetics, however, will take your breath away — and fishing, diving and relaxing on a beach are a few of the choice activities for experiencing the naturally azure waters surrounding Bimini, which are great enjoyed from a distance or up-close!

On a visit to Bimini, you can expect to discover quaint towns that still hold their charm. There are miles of beautiful white sand beaches, and it is a scuba diving paradise with its marine life. You’ll find historical landmarks and plenty of opportunities to experience the local culture whether it is noshing on conch at one of the rustic stands or shopping at the Bimini Craft Center. These are some of the things to do in Bimini but there are plenty more.

Bimini in the Bahamas is becoming a destination for many cruise lines since the Resort World Cruise Port opened in the summer of 2021. The huge dock can accommodate the largest cruise ships in the world. Bimini has welcomed guests, including Ernest Hemmingway and Dr. Martin Luther King, for many years. The island is often overlooked for its more populated neighboring islands and even with the arrival of cruise ships, it still has a hidden gem feel to it. Other than Resort World, the rest of the island is like a step back in time and you can easily imagine what drew Hemmingway to it.

I was on a Press Trip to learn about the Holland America Rotterdam, but I arranged and paid for my day on Bimini Island.

1. Resorts World Tram

I arrived on Holland America Rotterdam and in no time was taking a long stroll down the dock. When you get off your ship, you will see a sign reading: “Walkway to Kayak Beach, Fisherman’s Village, golf cart rental, and taxi to town.” You will also see the complimentary Bimini Tram. It can, however, be confusing when you come off the cruise ship. You are asked if you booked a tour, and they direct you to the tram, but it is free for everyone. I walked the pier to stretch my legs but with the heat, it can feel challenging. After a long day, our guide dropped us off to catch the tram back to the cruise ship.

Pro Tip: There is a golf cart rental place at the end of the dock off to the right. The cart can be rented for $60 cash.

Kayak Beach.

2. Fisherman’s Village And Kayak Beach

Located at the end of the dock, you’ll find a few businesses and the lovely Kayak Beach. As the name suggests, you can rent watercraft here. I thought it was lovely and a great place to get some sun not too far from the ship.

Guide Cleveland Maxwell.

3. Bimini Island Tours

I highly recommend booking a tour with Bimini Island Tours . This is a one-man show with guide Cleveland Maxwell Rolle Jr. — but you can call him Max. This tour was the highlight of my trip and Max was a joy. He is a Bahamahost certified with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investment, and Aviation as well as a certified Eco Tour Guide with the Bahamas National Trust. We met as strangers but left as family, literally; I think Max is related to half the people on the island.

I tend to explore on my own, but in this case, my experience would have been totally different. I was able to see so much more. This is a sleepy island and many of the businesses open at a more leisurely pace. Max planned our itinerary and made sure that someone met us at each stop. Having a local Biminite really made a difference in getting to meet so many interesting people with such great stories. I truly had an authentic Bahamian experience.

These are the places and people I met during my tour with Bimini Island Tours. Because Max is a private guide, he can tailor your trip to what you would like to see and experience. Max communicated by email, set up the perfect day, and sent me a final itinerary for my approval.

The Resorts World Beach.

4. Resorts World

My tour with Max started with a driving tour of this resort. This is a great option if you just want a day at the beach. You can book a package with your cruise, or simply take the tram and pay at the desk. The beach club is Virgin Cruise Lines “private beach” when their ships are in port. At other times the beach club is run by Resorts World and open to the public. It is a beautiful beach with two pools for a resort experience. You can also splurge on a cabana. The property has a casino as well. It is a pretty resort with not much local about it. I chose to spend my time supporting the local businesses.

Nate Hanna with freshly baked Bimini Bread.

5. Nate’s Bakery

One of the things I appreciated most on this tour was the opportunity to visit small local businesses. Nate Hanna has been baking bread since the 1970s. He started his own store after the death of his mother who started the business. When you walk in the door, Nate welcomes you with his big, bold personality and the smell of freshly baked bread wafting through the air.

He started the business following in the footsteps of his late mother who ran a successful bakery. Her photo is prominently displayed in the shop. Nate bakes fresh Bimini bread every day. The classic recipe is a sweet rich bread made with generous amounts of sugar and coconut milk. It is so tasty especially when baked with all the love and care Nate pours into it.

Legendary boat builder Ansil Saunders

6. Ansil’s Boat House

Meeting Mr. Ansil Saunders was one of the highlights of my trip. He had our whole group in tears when he shared his experiences meeting and serving as a guide to Dr. Martin Luther King when he visited Bimini. King found inspiration to write his Nobel Peace Prize speech during his time exploring the mangrove forests in a boat with Ansil.

As a child, Ansil’s family lived next door to the house Ernest Hemmingway stayed in during his time in Bimini. In addition to his great tales, Ansil’s boats are legendary. He builds one boat a year: a 16-foot bone fisher which is a shallow draft boat made to catch bonefish. Ansil holds the world record for the largest bonefish caught.

7. The War Memorial And Heroes Park

This is just a quick stop to see the park that honors Bimini’s veterans of World War I and II as well as local heroes. The park has a lovely view of the ocean.

Mr. Ashley Saunders, builder and artist with his creation the Dolphin House.

8. The Dolphin House Museum

The Dolphin House is an incredible work of art created by Mr. Ashley Saunders (Ansil’s brother). He wasn’t always an artist, but an experience swimming with the wild dolphins of Bimini woke up the artistic spirit within him. You’ll find descriptions of this as a kitschy tourist attraction, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Saunders is incredibly talented and built the entire home from the ground up using materials found around the island and that washed ashore. He was upcycling before it was a thing, and he has created an incredible work of art. Join him and take a tour as he explains his inspiration for every mosaic, window, and built-in piece of furniture in the Dolphin House Museum, his home. Such a unique experience and one of the many things I loved doing in Bimini .

9. Radio Beach

We just did a quick stop on the Radio Beach. It’s definitely the tourist beach with shops, food stands, and, most importantly, public restrooms. It is named after the radio towers nearby and was the site of the first radio and telegraph station in 1920. It is also easily accessible by golf cart if you choose to rent one instead of taking a tour.

A Cuban refugee raft near one of the island's Conch Shacks.

10. Visit A Conch Shack

Conch is plentiful in Bimini, and you will see piles of shells in the water especially near the Conch Shack, where you can try Conch Salad, a local specialty. The salad is like ceviche only made with conch, peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, and citrus juices. The Conch is prepared fresh each day. Behind each stand along the water, you can see fenced in areas where the conch is stored until it is harvested. At one of the stops, Max pointed out a rough-looking raft which turned out to be one Cuban refugees escaped on. There are so many to choose from, but Joe’s Conch Shack stands out.

“We put more love and care in it,” said the young lady working when asked what makes Joe’s stand out from the rest. “We cut up everything right in front of you.” So, you can see how fresh it is.

Bimini Craft Center.

11. Bimini Craft Center – Arts, Crafts, Souvenirs and Food

For those that love to shop, head to the Bimini Craft Center where you will find 17 booths filled with locally-made island crafts, hats, T-shirts, and other souvenirs. Located in the heart of Alice Town, you have the chance to meet friendly locals and learn about their history from interpretive signs throughout the center. Free Wi-Fi is available as well as public restrooms. Each day, a local food truck parks there, selling a variety of Bahamian food. It’s well worth the stop.

12. Ernest Hemingway Ruins – Tales of the Excentric Writer

As you drive through Alice Town, you will see some ruins with a big interpretive sign highlighting Ernest Hemingway’s stay on Bimini. The island was a huge inspiration for him, and he loved sport fishing in the area. It is said that Bimini gave him the insight to write The Old Man and the Sea .

Locals share tales of his infamous behavior on the island. It is also said that he was a heavy drinker and walked around with a 40-ounce bottle of rum stashed in his pocket. A boxing aficionado, Hemingway would bet $10 that someone couldn’t knock him out with one punch. He would allow the first hit and taunt them to make sure it was a hard one. The next thing the challenger knew, he was laid out with someone dumping water over him to wake him up.

Cracked Lobster at the Three Daughters Restaurant.

13. Three Daughters Restaurant

Finish your day with a meal at Three Daughters restaurant and enjoy their specialties, either the cracked lobster or cracked conch. I asked Max where he goes to eat, and he said this was his favorite. You can eat in or get your food to go. Filled mostly with locals and the occasional tourist, the food here was fantastic. The interior is nothing fancy, but you can eat on the screened porch for an excellent view.

The cracked lobster was deep-fried. I had never had it prepared this way and it was so tasty, crispy, and crunchy without being greasy. This is a family-run business with Leroy Rolle bringing fresh-caught fish and lobster right to the restaurant. On a sad note, Kim Rolle, one of the owners, was the first to die of COVID-19 on the island.

It was a great day in Bimini, and I just loved the local aspect of this trip. It felt authentic, not touristy. I highly recommend booking with Bimini Island Tours. Max is a treasure and his familiar relationships on the island truly enhanced our experience.

How to Have an Amazing One Day Cruise to Bimini Bahamas

bimini 1 day cruise

A one day cruise to Bimini is a popular and easy way to visit the Bahamas. Many travelers know that the Bahamas are close to Florida, and because of that, view a one day cruise to Bimini as a great way to see some of the country’s top sites. Unfortunately, expectations end up conflicting with reality, and the Bimini ferry often leaves many travelers feeling disappointed.

To help make your vacation as enjoyable as possible, we’re going to cut through the misleading marketing and explain the truth about a one day cruise to Bimini. We’re also going to explain why Bahamas day trips by plane are the best way to explore the country.

Flying by air lets you explore remote parts of the country, save time, and travel in comfort and style. Bahamas day trips with Bahamas Air Tours are the best way to visit the archipelago nation!

The Truth About a One Day Cruise to Bimini

The bimini ferry.

1 day cruise to bimini from Miami by plane with Bahamas Air Tours. Fly from Miami to Resorts World bimini by plane on a Bahamas Air Charter trip to Bahamas.

One day cruise to Bimini is a great way to get a taste of the Bahamas.

The Bimini ferry is the boat travelers take to get to Bimini, Bahamas. Operated by Baleària Caribbean , the company is in charge of the one day cruise to Bimini from Miami. They also offer service to Freeport, a busy city and cruise ship port on Grand Bahama.

Bimini is around 45 miles off the coast of Florida. However, while that may sound close, the journey isn’t as smooth as many travelers anticipate it to be.

For one thing, getting to Bimini Bahamas requires travelers to cross over the rough, open waters of the Atlantic. This makes the journey bumpy and uncomfortable, with many passengers getting seasick. When the water is exceptionally rough, Baleària Caribbean will often cancel service altogether, often at the last minute. That can make planning a one day cruise to Bimini difficult.

The Crowds on a Bimini Cruise

Rough water isn’t the only thing you have to deal with. One of the biggest drawbacks of the one day cruise to Bimini from Miami are the crowds.

The ferry can accommodate hundreds of people, meaning that the experience you get is anything but personal or unique. Many travelers end up feeling like numbers on a spreadsheet, piling onto the boat in the most cost-efficient method possible.

To accommodate the crowds, you’ll also need to get to the ferry terminal hours in advance to even make it on the day trip to Bimini from Fort Lauderdale. According to the Baleària Caribbean company website, travelers should arrive for check-in at around 6:00 am, three hours before the boat even leaves the terminal.

Once you’re on and the boat finally leaves, you won’t get there until around 11:00 am. Then, before you know it, it’ll be time to board the ship again to start the long journey back to the States.

Known as the gateway to the Bahamas, Bimini is a popular destination – both on account of its proximity to the United States and the beautiful sites it has to offer.

Of course, people travel to the Bahamas expecting beaches, and Bimini doesn’t disappoint. The best beaches are on the western half of the island’s northern side. There, you can find the palm-fringed powdery white-sand beaches that make the Bahamas famous.

Why Air Travel Is the Best Way to Visit the Bahamas

As we’ve explained, while the 1 day cruise to Bimini from Miami is a popular travel option, it comes with many downsides. Luckily, flying by plane lets you avoid all of them.

For one thing, air travel is far more efficient than traveling by boat. If you’re interested in chartering a private plane to get to Bimini, you can do so and arrive in around 30 minutes.

Otherwise, you can look into Bahamas day trips by plane that take you to the Exumas . The plane ride there takes just two hours from Miami, around the time it takes you to get to Bimini by boat. Once there, you’ll get to see many famous sites, including:

  • The Exuma Pigs at Pig Beach
  • Nurse sharks at Compass Cay
  • Iguanas at Bitter Guana Cay
  • Sand bars at Pipe Creek
  • An underwater plane wreck

Saving time by flying gives you more time to see the sites you want to see, whether on Bimini or in the Exumas.

Avoid the Crowds

If traveling with crowds of other people on a one day cruise to Bimini doesn’t sound fun, you can avoid them all by traveling on a private class plane. If you book a private trip, you can ensure that it’s just you and your companions on the trip. Otherwise, you’ll share it with just a small group of others. But don’t worry, everyone gets a window seat with jaw-dropping views of the waters and islands out the window.

Traveling on a private-class plane also means that you don’t have to arrive for check-in hours in advance. You can sleep in a bit, then arrive at the airport around 45 minutes before departure.

Travel in Comfort

Fewer people means a more personal and comfortable experience. But remember that traveling by air also lets you fly over the rough and turbulent waters beneath you. You won’t have to worry bout seasickness, nor will you have to worry about your trip getting canceled.

You can sit back and relax until you land at your destination of choice.

A Better Option Than a One Day Cruise to Bimini

A one day cruise to Bimini from Florida may be one of the most popular ways to reach the Bahamas, but it’s not the  best  way. Traveling by boat comes with many downsides that can mar your overall impression of the country. Luckily, flying by air allows you to sidestep all of them.

Whether you’re looking to travel to Bimini, the Exumas, or somewhere else in the country, Bahamas Air Tours can help you get there.

5 Reasons to Go Ashore in Bimini, Bahamas

bimini 1 day cruise

Located just 55 miles (roughly 89 kilometres) east of Miami, the Bahamian island of Bimini is the cruise industry’s newest port of call. First opened in 2021 during the middle of the global health pandemic, Bimini seeks to court cruise lines looking for an alternative to busy Nassau and Freeport.

But therein lies part of Bimini’s problem, at least from a cruise passenger’s perspective: it’s sleepy. You’re not going to find a pierside Senor Frogs or a massive Margaritaville location where you can get your drink on. Choices in Bimini are, comparatively, few and far between, with shore excursions generally limited to the timeless pursuits of beaches and booze.

And while there is a small tram that whisks cruise passengers to the for-fee beaches and resorts, there’s really nothing within walking distance of the very, very long pier that ships tie up in.

All is not lost, however. For those thinking of staying on their ship in Bimini, here are five very good reasons to walk down the gangway and spend some time in the cruise industry’s newest slice of paradise.

1. Bimini Offers a More Laid-Back Experience than Nassau or Freeport

A tram is available to the end of the pier, and over to the nearby resorts (Photo: Aaron Saunders)

Bimini looks like Nassau or Freeport, if someone stopped time and wound the clock back. Infrastructure, particularly near the pier, is still minimal. The American chains (save for the nearby hotels) are largely missing. Bimini, for all intents and purposes, is a sleepy little island made up of several local settlements and a beach with a handful of four-star hotels.

That, however, is one of Bimini’s greatest charms: nothing is overrun yet with tourists. No one is going to shake you down for a hard-sell hair braid or wares sold on sidewalks. Generally speaking, locals are friendly and content to show you around – or leave you alone – as you wish.

That relative laidback quiet is likely to appeal to those who find themselves flustered with Nassau’s hyperactive pier scene, or Freeport’s more industrial surroundings. Here in Bimini, you walk off your ship, down the pier, and into paradise.

2. Bimini’s Beaches are Superb

The water in Bimini has to be seen to be believed. In an area already known for its luscious azure waters, the seas around Bimini kick the beauty factor up by several notches. Crystal clear, tinged with shades of aquamarine and soft blues, and warm to the touch, Bimini is a beachgoer’s paradise.

It doesn’t hurt that there is a small public beach situated right at the head of the cruise pier, complete with chairs and umbrellas that can be rented for a fee. For those who don’t want to venture too far in, this is one of the best beaches outside of cruise line’s private islands for sheer convenience.

For the adventurous who don’t mind hailing a cab or renting a golf cart to zip around the island for the day, Bimini’s Radio Beach has to be seen to be believed. Located in nearby Alice Town, Radio Beach consistently scores highly on Tripadvsior , where readers praise its beauty and warmth, if also highlighting the rockier nature of the sand here.

Palm trees and quiet streets border Radio Beach, which is in walking distance to the famous Dolphin House – a residence built entirely by hand since 1992 using nothing but local materials and materials like Conch shells that have washed up on the beach.

bimini 1 day cruise

What’s more, those who need a break from the sun will find plenty of shade courtesy of the palm trees that line the area between the elevated road and the sandy beach below.

It’s every bit like a cruise line’s private island, without actually being one. Don’t forget to buy some local conch fritters, too.

Bimini Offers Nearby Resorts to Relax In

For an easygoing day, book one of the inclusive shore excursions through the local hotels in Bimini – Resorts World Bimini and Hilton at Resorts World Bimini are the two 900-pound gorillas here – through the cruise line. Some packages include full open bars and use of all facilities, while others might just include lunch and a few beach chairs.

It’s not the most active excursion, but for those who just want some easy fun in the sun, these inclusive hotel packages fit the bill.

Bimini Offers Great Snorkelling and Sportfishing

The sea around Bimini is idyllic, and ideal for fishing (Photo: Aaron Saunders)

Bimini is known for its sportfishing and snorkelling, and both are on offer here. While both are highly weather dependant (two of the three times we’ve been here it’s been rather stormy), they can also be incredibly rewarding.

A popular snorkelling location off Bimini is over the wreck of the Sapona, a cargo steamer that ran aground during a hurricane in 1926 and which has remained lodged in place ever since. There’s little left except for the vessel’s frame and hull outline, but the wreck has become a viable artificial reef and home to many varieties of marine life and tropical fish.

Sportfishing, too, can provide a real thrill – but those prone to seasickness might want to take a pass, as the fishing boats are often buffeted by the large swells that come in off the largely unprotected Atlantic Ocean.

Bimini Has Plenty of Culture – If You’re Willing to Look for It

Used conch shells line the shorelines of Bimini near where they are processed (Photo: Aaron Saunders)

Head north to Alice Town to watch locals harvest Conch with their bare hands – and enjoy the fruits of their labors afterwards. Alice Town offers all the bars and restaurants the locals go to, along with a few notable locales, like the aforementioned Dolphin House and even the local market, which has a bust of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in honor of the slain civil rights leader’s contributions to the Bahamas.

Bimini's market also has a bust of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in the gazebo at right (Photo: Aaron Saunders)

From cultural tours of Alice Town and the settlements to the north of the cruise pier, to local conch fritters and laid-back beach breaks and resort escapes, the small environs of Bimini do not disappoint. While it’s hard to independently explore here (travellers really do need to book a shore excursion through the cruise line, an independent tour, or at least rent a golf cart for the day), Bimini offers a world of wonders to those willing to explore off the beaten path.

Best Bahamas Cruises

C ruises to the Bahamas are filled with sun, soft sands, and the opportunity to dip your toes in a warm and seductive crystal blue sea. The 700-island archipelago is the kind of oasis you dream of when, in my case at least, you're indoors on a cold and dark day in Cleveland. Exploring the islands is tricky by air, but much easier via ship. Bahamas cruises to take right now include quick jaunts from easy-to-get-to Florida ports as well as one-week and longer cruises that explore more deeply. You can sail there in less than a day from Florida (cruises tend to embark in the early evening and hang out at sea until the next morning ashore), which makes it both an easy escape for a quick getaway or somewhere to linger for even more rest and relaxation.

What to expect on a Bahamas cruise

The main places cruise ships visit in the Bahamas are Nassau, the capital city, and some of the islands and beaches that are affiliated with cruise lines, such as Disney's private family wonderland Castaway Cay, off Great Abaco Island. There are small ships that explore further, including to the southern reaches of the archipelago.

Cruise passengers will find opportunities to hike in national parks, enjoy nearly deserted beaches, and explore many small churches-the Bahamas boasts more churches per capita than anywhere else in the world.

In the Bahamian capital of Nassau on New Providence Island, visitors can get a better understanding of the nation's British colonial and West African slave history as well as of the Junkanoo culture and festivals at wonderful museums. Most day visitors, though, are typically focused on water attractions: heading off on diving or snorkeling excursions, boarding party boats with free-flowing rum punch, experiencing the beaches, swimming pools, and waterslides at the Atlantis Bahamas resort on Paradise Island, or trying to catch the big one on fishing charters.

On small ship itineraries, you may stop at San Salvador Island, where Christopher Columbus may or may not have made his first landing in the New World. (Historians quibble on the exact landing spot.) A white cross memorializes the supposed landing spot. Long Island, which stretches some 80 miles, has both rugged and sandy coasts and the natural attraction of Dean's Blue Hole, one of the deepest sinkholes in the world at 663 feet, a place where divers and snorkelers can mingle with turtles and tarpons. The small island of Bimini is known for its clean beaches and rich marine life-hanging out at beach clubs, seeking quiet escapes in the land, and watching for dolphins and other sea creatures are prime activities.

Other cruise destinations include Eleuthera, with its inviting pink sands and protected park areas. In addition to beaches, the 365-island chain known as the Exumas are famous for swimming pigs (though they also live elsewhere in the Bahamas).

Best Bahamas cruises

Celebrity cruises' "nassau & bimini" itinerary.

  • Best for: Upscale big ship experience
  • To book: 4-nights round-trip from Miami , from $473 per person for a veranda stateroom; from $801 per person for AquaClass; and from $2,245 per person for the Retreat
  • Islands: Nassau (New Providence), Bimini, plus Key West

Celebrity Cruises sails to Nassau and Bimini in style, and if time or money is tight, you don't have to invest too much in your Bahamas getaway. You can book, for instance, an easy, breezy four-night trip on the 2,158-passenger Celebrity Summit from under $500 per person. That said, if you splurge on a suite in the Retreat, you'll have your own sundeck with hot tub, enjoy private lounge access, and dine at the exclusive restaurant Luminae, where signature dishes by Celebrity's culinary ambassador, Daniel Boulud, are featured on the rotating menu-such as creamy carrot and ginger velouté and Moroccan chicken tagine with saffron couscous. Spa lovers might want to book the AquaClass staterooms, with complimentary access to a Persian Garden with infrared sauna and sensory showers and exclusive dining at health focused Blu, where the wine list features sustainable and biodynamic wines. While in Bimini, you might try your hand at sport-fishing, a year-round pastime from the island.

Disney Cruise Line's Bahamian Cruise from Fort Lauderdale

  • Best for: Families and Disney fans of all ages
  • To book: 5-night Bahamas cruise from Fort Lauderdale on the 2,700-passenger Disney Magic , from $6,299 for four guests
  • Islands: Castaway Cay, Nassau (New Providence), Eleuthera

Disney Cruise Line has ships in the Bahamas year-round, starting with quick three- and four-night sailings from Florida ports. Ever since it first opened 1998, the highlight of any Disney cruise in the Bahamas has been Castaway Cay, a picture-perfect white-sand island paradise, complete with pirate attractions and Disney character appearances. What has Disney fans all atwitter is the opening in summer 2024 of a second exclusive for Disney Bahamas destination, Lighthouse Point, on the island of Eleuthera. There, Disney promises a celebration of Bahamian culture, including Junkanoo parades, characters from Bahamas folklore, and performances by local artists. An accompanying commitment to conservation at Lighthouse Point includes a solar installation that will provide at least 90 percent of the destination's required electricity (Castaway Cay also has a solar installation). Family-friendly attractions abound but grown-ups can also drop the kids off in a supervised activity program and head to the adults-only beach to sip cocktails while lounging in private cabanas.

Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's round-trip sailing from Fort Lauderdale

  • Best for: Top-of-the-line luxury experience
  • To book: 7-night cruise from Fort Lauderdale on the 298-passenger Evrima , from $6,100 per person
  • Islands: Nassau (New Providence), Bimini, San Salvador, Long Island, plus Key West

On the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection's 298-passenger Evrima , you can head to the secluded dipping pool and pretend you are on your own private yacht, luxuriate in your resort-like suite, or join an intimate dance party on the Marina Terrace, located just above the sea. A seven-night itinerary in December 2023 gets you from Fort Lauderdale to Nassau, Bimini, San Salvador, and Long Island, Bahamas, with the bonus of some additional time built in to enjoy the Hemingway House & Museum and other attractions in Key West, Florida. Optional small group shore excursions in the Bahamas include an "Eco-Marine Safari" on Long Island, that combines small boat exploration of a mangrove channel and sandbars with a visit to see swimming pigs in a quiet cay. With both the cruise line and the Royal at Atlantis on Paradise Island affiliated with Marriott International , there's also a hotel tie-in-you can book a daybed at the resort's chic adults-only pool area, the Cove .

Scenic's "Island Odyssey: Bahamas to the Grenadines" cruise

  • Best for: Underwater and air exploration
  • To book: 12-night sailing in fall 2024 from $9,963 per person
  • Islands: Compass Cay, Great Exuma Island, San Salvador Island, Long Island, Great Inagua Island in the Bahamas. Also, Virgin Gorda, St. Bart's, Monserrat, Iles des Saintes (Guadeloupe), Tobago Cays (St. Vincent and the Grenadines)

The luxurious 228-passenger Scenic Eclipse features some of the best exploration toys in the industry. An expedition team runs excursions including with two helicopters and a submarine, which will enhance your Bahamas views from both over and under the sea. Or borrow paddleboards and kayaks from the ship's marina for your own solo exploration. A 12-night sailing from Nassau to Bridgetown, Barbados, starts with six days in the Bahamas, before following the yachting crowd south. Stops include Compass Cay in the Exuma Cays, where in the clear water you might see nurse sharks even from the ship. Bird lovers will enjoy a rare visit to the southernmost island in the Bahamas, Great Inagua Island, with its resident population of some 80,000 flamingos. Whiskey lovers will want to check out the ship's collection of more than 110 varieties.

SeaDream Yacht Club's "Bountiful Bahamas" cruise

Best for: Low-key luxury

To book: 7-night cruise in April 2025 , from $4,399 per person

Islands: Nassau (New Providence), Staniel Cay, Great Exuma, San Salvador, Salt Cay

You'll have to wait until 2025, but small-ship line SeaDream has an intriguing pair of upcoming round-trip cruises to the Bahamas from tony Palm Beach, Florida, on the 112-passenger SeaDream II . The "Bountiful Bahamas" itinerary lingers in the Exumas and around Long Island, with the opportunity to explore pristine beaches, hang out at beach shack bars, and snorkel in the clear sea. There's also an unusual visit to the uninhabited Bahamas island Salt Cay (also known as Cay Sal), only accessible by boat and some 50 miles from Marathon, Florida. In between kayaking quiet bays, try the yacht's newest attraction, an inflatable slide running from the pool deck into the water. SeaDream prides itself on cuisine and was the first cruise line with a full vegan raw food menu in addition to such indulgences as a signature l'oeuf poule au caviar (egg with caviar), grilled lobster, and filet mignon.

Virgin Voyages' "Fire & Sunset Soirées" cruise

  • Best for: Fun-seeking adults
  • To book: 4-night "Fire & Sunset Soirées" on the 2,770-passenger Scarlet Lady or Valiant Lady from $1,920 for two in a Sea Terrace cabin
  • Islands: Bimini, plus Key West

For pure adult fun you can't beat Virgin Voyages , which is limited to those age 18 and up. During a beach day at the Virgin Voyages Beach Club at Bimini, private to Virgin guests when their ships visit, enjoy cocktails at the pool or a beach bonfire. Or book an activity such as a watercolor painting class, a "Views-n-Blues Mid-Afternoon Cruise" on a pontoon, an open-air tram tour of the island, or scuba dive with hammerheads. On the ship, partake in dance parties, take advantage of complimentary yoga, meditation sessions, and intense cardio HIIT classes, peruse vinyl selections on sale at the record shop, and get a tattoo or piercing when not indulging in treats at the "Lick Me Till  . . .  Ice Cream" shop. There are also six restaurants onboard, including a highly creative "Test Kitchen" where dishes smoke and sizzle, and a super-fun Korean baarbecue experience, Gunbae, complete with drinking games.

With hundreds of islands to visit, Bahamas cruises are filled with beautiful scenery, mesmerizing marine life, and relaxing beach escapes.

Holland America to Serve New Dutch Dinner on Every Cruise For ‘Dutch Day’

Holland America Line has announced a new themed 'Dutch Day' on every cruise, which will include new food and the Orange Party.

Holland America

Share this post:

Holland America Line is introducing a new “Dutch Day” experience on every cruise, which will celebrate the line’s over 150-year history that began in the Netherlands.

The highlight of Dutch Day will be a themed Dutch Dinner served once per cruise in the main dining room, with many of the dishes also available in the Lido Market buffet. Additionally, Holland America’s popular Orange Party will be held on Dutch Day and passengers will be able to enjoy freshly-made pofferties (mini Dutch pancakes) in the Crow’s Nest Café.

Holland America

A new partnership with Daelmans Stroopwafel includes delectable desserts featuring the Dutch staple and a Daelmans Stroopwafel turn-down pillow treat in every stateroom.

“Holland America Line remains deeply connected to our roots in the Netherlands, and Dutch Day is the perfect way to honor our history through experiences that celebrate the culinary culture of the country,” said Michael Stendebach, vice president of the food, beverage, and rooms division for Holland America Line. “Our guests appreciate special touches like Daelmans Stroopwafel for turn down or a dish in the dining room that is distinctly Dutch, and we’re excited to expand the cultural experience for an entire day to showcase more of our heritage.”

Holland America’s Dutch Dinner Menu Items

The special Dutch Dinner in the main dining room features an extensive menu that includes both classic and contemporary Dutch delicacies. The selection of starters features a bay shrimp cocktail with Dutch cocktail sauce, Dutch pea soup, and mushroom cream puff pastry with hollandaise sauce.

Main courses will include Bami Gorena, a stir-fried noodle dish with chicken sate and peanut sauce; pan-fried dover sole with lemon butter; and hodge podge klapstuk with chateau potatoes. For dessert, a bosche bol (large chocolate-covered cream puff), tompouce (Dutch mille-feuille pastry), or a slice of traditional Dutch apple pie will be on offer.

Stroopwafels

In collaboration with Daelmans Stroopwafels — a family-owned bakery founded in the Netherlands in 1904 and famous for its authentic recipe — Dutch Day will feature Stroopwafel cheesecake for dessert on the dinner menu in the main dining room and buffet and a Stroopwafel Napoleon at tea time.

On ships in Europe, select bars will serve a Stroopwafel liqueur with hints of cinnamon and caramel. Additionally, in place of the traditional stateroom turn-down chocolate, guests will find a Daelmans Stroopwafel waiting for them on their pillow.

Crow’s Nest Café

New in the Crow’s Nest Café on all ships, fresh-made mini Dutch pancakes will be available every day (not just on Dutch Day) for a small fee.

Orange Party

Once per cruise, Holland America will hold the Orange Party featuring live music, cocktails, and treats. This event will now be held on Dutch Day. The party pays homage to the company’s Dutch heritage (orange is the color of the Dutch Royal Family), and guests are encouraged to wear orange clothing and accessories. During the after-dinner festivities, special orange-themed cocktails are available and servers will pass around finger-foods and sweets.

What do you think about the addition of a themed Dutch day to every cruise on HAL? Are you looking forward to this new event? Drop us an anchor below and let us know your thoughts!

Subscriber only, travel | celebrity cruises joins the party at private bahamas island cococay.

Celebrity Cruises made its first trip to sister cruise line Royal Caribbean’s private Bahamas island CocoCay this week.

The popular destination is rife with bells and whistles that cater to the adventuresome set that frequent Royal Caribbean ships, but the island is filled with tastes for all, including a new adults-only beachfront area called Hideaway Beach.

Celebrity Reflection was the first ship to visit on April 22 followed by Celebrity Beyond on April 23, both part of five-night western Caribbean sailings departing from Port Everglades, part of new shorter itineraries being offered by the premium cruise brand. Sailings also visit Bimini, Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Key West.

“Guest feedback inspired the new shorter Caribbean itineraries, designed to offer year-round opportunities to unwind with loved ones,” said Celebrity Cruises President Laura Hodges Bethge in a press release. “Introducing Perfect Day at CocoCay presents new experiences for Celebrity guests seeking quick beach getaway escapes close to home.”

bimini 1 day cruise

Once known as just Little Stirrup Cay, Royal Caribbean now calls it Perfect Day at CocoCay, which received a $250 million overhaul first in 2019 adding a 13-slide water park including the 135-foot-tall Devil’s Peak that is one of seven slides on the castle-like tower that acts as an icon that can be seen from around the 125-acre resort.

It also added a dock that allows for two ships to come alongside instead of having to take day visitors with tender vessels. Nearby Great Stirrup Cay, which is used primarily by Norwegian Cruise Line, still relies on tenders, but recently announced it too would build a ship dock.

It also features a colorful helium balloon ride called Up, Up and Away that takes passengers up 450 feet on the rare calm days it’s not too windy, a 1,600-foot zip line and the largest wave pool in the Caribbean.

Those fall under the “Thrill” side of the island, but there’s plenty on the “Chill” side as well, including the Coco Beach Club, which includes a series of over-water cabanas with hammocks and personal slides plus more beachside cabanas, an infinity pool and a higher-end Mediterranean dining venue.

This image shows Hideaway Beach in January 2024, a new adults-only area on Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay. (Richard Tribou/Orlando Sentinel)

The newest feature on the island, though, opened in January. Hideaway Beach is the first part of the island to be kid-free. It has its own private beach and lagoon, two pools, seven food and drink locations and 20 cabanas.

Spending time at Hideaway Beach is designed to be an all-day experience at an extra charge for those 18 and older. Prices start at $39-$89 per person depending on sail date with the 20 cabanas available for an additional rate.

The On the Rocks bar, classic sports bar with pool and bar shuffleboard, is at one end of Hideaway Beach with views of the ship at dock, seen here in this January 2024 file photo. (Richard Tribou/Orlando Sentinel)

The space includes the al fresco On the Rocks bar with live musicians, live sports on TV and even a pool table and shuffleboard with great views of the dock along the island’s rocky shore.

The lagoon is surrounded by loungers, hammocks and in-water swingsets while the Hideaway Bar is the central swim-up bar in the main pool while there are two full-service Beach Bars on either side of the area as well.
