Does anyone know the bus Metro Bus or Caribe Tours schedule and cost?

PARADISECAT

Hi Expats.  I might need to take either the Metro Bus or Caribe Tours bus from Sosua to Santo Domingo this Sunday.   Could someone tell me what the current rate is from Sosua to Santo Domingo? From there I need to catch another bus from parque Enriquillo to La Romana.  I'm mainly interested to know if anyone knows if the Metro tours bus runs on Sunday Morning and what is their cost and schedule. Caribe tours I have been told runs hourly from Sosua to Santo Domingo I would love to know the cost of the Caribe tours bus and your opinion as to which is most comfortable.  How long is the trip on the bus from Sosua to Santo Domingo and How Long From Santo Domingo to La Romana?       There is supposed to be a relative taking me by car, but as a typical American and given the track record of no shows and lateness witnessed here, I would love to have a plan B if things do not work out in my favor. All info sources would truly truly be appreciated. I hope the experts Planner and Bob can help me out on this one, but all info and input is once again appreciated.

Bob K

A plan B is always a good plan.  I prefer Metro as is quicker (less stops...only one in Santiago) and the buses a bit nicer. Metro leaves from the Texaco in Sosua at 8:20 and 10:20 in the morning. Here is a link to the site: http://metroserviciosturisticos.com/index.php/horarios   I think the cost here is $360 or so a bit more than Caribe but worth it. Caribe starts at 5:20 in the morning and are basically every hour but may have an extra bus at 7am. Remember they leave from Cheramicos   Here is their schedule link http://www.caribetours.com.do/index.php … get_travel   Costs here are $330 each way Hope this helps. Bob K

Forgot time is about 4 hours or a bit more for Metro and 4.5 hours or bit more for Caribe. From SD to La Romana I do not know but the sites I sent you will have that information. Bob K

Thanks A million Bob, you always provide info when needed, they need to bump you up to expert status already, both you and planner always provide so much help.  I will have to repost letting you all know how things turned out.  My girlfriend seemed a bit annoyed that I was actually researching and making a plan B. All I said was that Americans have learned not to put all our eggs in one basket, my example ENRON. she asked: Who is Enron? LOL  She said by me creating a plan B is as if I did not think her cousin would come through for us.  I only said a few things in return.  Did he return your calls on Friday to square the trip for Sunday? How are his Kidneys doing this week? And does he have plans to party Saturday night? Upon not getting an answer to any of those questions, I felt a plan B might be necessary as extra insurance.  I still remember planners closet boy adventure. So on that note, if he shows up great! If not, I guess I will be on the Bus to the Capital on Sunday. :-)

Ooooops Bob just took a closer look at your status and realized you have been made an expert already. Congrats! Well deserved :-)

Thank you and good luck. Bob K

Metro is faster and nicer but less scheduled buses. Price is the same. Taxi from bus to your next bus 200 rd. And sending you a message.

Thanks Planner.  I sent you a PM back, your wisdom is always appreciated :-)

Caribe Tours from "Las Americas" to Sosua?

Well-known member.

  • Jan 4, 2024

I looking if Caribe Tours goes from "Las Americas" to Sosua. Their web site does not seem to work now? Anyone have taken Caribe tour from "Las Americas" to Sosua recently?

drstock

I haven't taken it recently, but I did the trip from the "Las Americas" Caribe Express bus station to Rio San Juan a couple of years ago. You probably know the bus station is not at the airport, so you would need a taxi to get there. Then the bus goes straight through to Rio San Juan with a couple of stops on the way. Then a carrito or gua-gua goes all the way to Sosua. I paid the carrito driver 500 pesos to leave immediately with just me on board and a guarantee of the front seat to myself all the way to my home in Cabarete.

NanSanPedro said: Yes, that's the only way I have gone. You can either leave from the main station on 27 de Febrero or the Las Americas station. I you choose the Las Americas station (close to La Caleta/airport), they drop you off in La Vega and then you wait for the bus from 27 de Febrero. It's usually a 15-20 minute wait but there's a station with bathrooms there so it's not bad. Because I live in Boca Chica, it's much easier for me to take the Las Americas bus than going into the bowels of the capital. Click to expand...
XTraveller said: Thank you, Is this a recent trip because others have said the bus goes to Rio San Juan. It make sense for you from Boca Chica but if I have a bus transfer with a large suit case I would prefer no transfer and sucker up the trip to Santo Domingo. Click to expand...

Take metro. Caribe stops almost on every garbage bin on the way.

Campesino !! :)

I did Santiago Santo Domingo, recently. 5 mn stop in LaVega then onto the capital. At the bus depot in Santiago they had a new sign up saying Aeropuerto Las Americas so I was wondering if they go to the airport proper now ?

Just in case anybody is interested. I phoned Caribe tours last week to check if there was a direct Santiago to LasAmericas. The answer was no, switch over in Santo Domingo. Ok, so I planned according. Well it turns out there is a direct bus. Duuh. Empty too, versus the full buses to SD. Then you have to get a taxi from the bus stop to the airport. Anywhere between 400 and 700 pesos depending on how patient one is. The direct bus also cuts off A LOT of time, as it doesn't go through SD.

1. Quick Summary: The Need-to-Knows

For those on the run:

  • Last Known Schedules: Buses from Las Américas to Samaná reportedly leave every four hours, with the last one at 4:45 PM.
  • Website Woes: The official Caribe Tours website has been inconsistent, leaving travelers in the lurch for updated schedule information.
  • Local Tips: Experienced travelers recommend communicating with bus drivers directly for mid-route drop-offs, ensuring quicker, smoother trips.
  • Phone a Friend: When in doubt, dial up Caribe Tours directly at 809-221-4422 (extensions 2061, 2062, and 2064) – they do answer!

2. Introduction: Why This Matters

Hey there, globetrotters and schedule sleuths alike! Today we’re diving deep into the heart of Dominican Republic travel quirks with a spotlight on Caribe Tours’ elusive 2024 bus schedule from Las Américas to Samaná. Grab your coffee and a sense of adventure as we decode the latest updates with humor, facts, and unexpected turns.

3. User Insights: Real Experiences from the Road

From seasoned forum members to frustrated first-timers, the tale of tracking down a reliable bus schedule is as bumpy as a ride on rural Dominican roads. Users report a range of experiences from “no-show websites” to “heroic bus drivers” who bend the rules to drop passengers at non-designated stops. Let’s laugh (and maybe cry a little) at these tales from the trenches.

4. Big Data Analysis: What the Numbers Say

By analyzing user-generated data, we see that Caribe Tours has trimmed routes and reduced frequency significantly since early 2023. Despite a drop in service quality and accessibility, the demand for inter-city bus travel remains high, underscoring a desperate need for updated and reliable schedule information.

5. Cultural Context: The Dominican Travel Dialogue

In the DR, bus travel isn’t just a mode of transportation; it’s a cultural conversation on wheels. From negotiating drop-offs with your driver to understanding the informal ‘bus stop’ system, navigating this network can be as complex as the local dance, merengue. Let’s decode this intricate step with a bit of humor and lots of patience.

6. FAQs: Your Top Questions Answered

  • How can I ensure I get the latest bus schedule? Always check the official site first; if that fails, a phone call can save the day.
  • What should I do if I need a mid-route stop? Politely inform your driver ahead of time; they’re usually more accommodating than you’d expect!
  • How do I deal with language barriers? A smile and a few basic Spanish phrases go a long way. Plus, there’s always Google Translate!

Taking a Caribe bus from SDQ to PP. Is a reservation required prior to landing in DR that day, Or could we just show up? DO they take American $$, or should we convert some cash before we leave the states.

' class=

Metro which is around 1 or so goes to Puerto Plata and Sosua as well. Metro only has 3 buses a day that go beyond Puerto Plata to Sosua.

So you probably will do better on Caribe unless timing is great

' class=

I just wanted to post my own experience. I thought Caribe Tours was great, BUT if you are leaving from the main bus station in Santo Domingo, it would be very very difficult for someone who doesn't speak Spanish, unless you have someone traveling with you who does speak Spanish. Picture listening to the gate change announcements at the airport, only they are all only in Spanish, that is how you know which bus to get on. There is a smaller Caribe Tours stop near the SDQ airport, and that one is much easier to navigate since there is usually just one bus at a time there. Also, you can't make reservations before the same day, and they DO sell out of tickets on occasion. This happened to me just last week. My suggestion, if you are here for a week or less, or if you do not speak Spanish, just get a shuttle or a taxi.

' class=

Thanks Candace..but I will not be leaving from Santo Domingo. I will be leaving from Santiago and headed to Sosua. If you have any experience with that, please share. Thanks.

Thanks again BoBK.

So just to be clear...caribe tours has another bus route that leaves every hour on the half from Santiago and takes you right into Sosua from Santiago? And the Metro has only three departures in which the earliest seems to be 1/1:30pm? Please correct me of I'm wrong and thanks again.

That is correct. Metro only has 3 buses a day to Sosua

Do note that the Caribe bus leaves you in Charimicos which is on the very west side of Sosua and not really in town. You will need a taxi or moto for the 1 mile ride to town or if not much luggage you can walk it. Metro leaves you right in town at the Texaco station.

Are you at all familiar with the 3 departure times on Metro from Santiago headed to Sosua? My friend and I arrive at the Santiago airport at 9:15 am on a Wednesday. If we do use Caribe, are you familiar with the cost for a cab from the town to Sosua. Thanks again for the info man.

The first bus you can catch from Santiago to Sosua will be at about 1:15 PM.

caribe tours a sosua

Or the 1030 Caribe Tours bus if you get thru the airport quickly.

I"m looking forward to visit casa marina sosua do your buses go there thank you.

From Santiago you need to take the Caribe tour bus to Sosua and then a 7 min cab ride ($10 or so).

Take the Metro bus (less frequent) to Sosua and it lets you off at the Texaco station. Casa Marina Resort is then a 5 min walk away.
