Very good app, only one thing needs to be fixed

This app is amazing unlike those other ChatGPT apps you don’t have to pay to even get to use it which is very good for start, it was hard finding ChatGPT apps that didn’t force you to pay but this one in particular is great because it doesn’t require some Costly or expensive subscription to use it, however you have the option to pay for extra features though and that’s okay. Also, this app is good for world building if your a writer or just like making up your own worlds or stories. The only issue is that when I am trying to get it to generate something, it keeps flagging it as violating the TOS when it doesn’t, it happens more than once a week and can be very frustrating, the stuff it has generated is not inappropriate or excessively mature, they are usually things to do with my stories. The TOS says nothing about violence or blood not being allowed, if this isn’t allowed the TOS should be updated so people know what to not ask it to generate. I have filled in multiple feedback forms so hopefully it gets fixed or looked at. Also I wish that Chat-GPT would be updated with information for 2024, then it would give the most updated information, I hope it gets updated sometime in the future. Overall it is an excellent app and I recommend it, especially if your a writer or someone who enjoys making stories or world-building.

Godsend app for all people

Especially for people suffering from issues with memory, physical, knowledge, and mental health. I had a brain accident last year which resulted in the loss of my job(most hurtful, because of all the overtime and effort, and time I put into that company, however, it teaches me to always put myself first); many of my friends and family and even lost respect from other people. The Year was so difficult for me I did not know how I continue but this app has rejuvenated everything for me and I am so grateful for companies like open AI and individuals . And when I have the opportunity, I would love to volunteer my expertise to the program as I used to be a software developer and have worked with Cloud, Big Data, AI,etc. These apps are the kind of technologies that bring so much good to the world, especially when used correctly, I also think it’s called the approach that has been taken where there’s been less training the data as you know because of bias and I hope this app remains successful and no, it is not able to be tampered with. It would be great if the app stays open source as well, but I will be incorporating these Apis into my sample applications in an effort to get back to doing some kind of work round of applause to open AI for introducing this application. You have a investor in me.

Incredible app overall on iPhone

The ChatGPT app on iPhone is actually incredible. It has all of the functionalities that ChatGPT has on its website that make it so helpful and impressive to talk to. In fact, it enhances the experience with the app’s very clean look and little features such as the tiny haptic feedback that taps away as ChatGPT is generating text in front of your eyes. It’s also helpful to have a history of all your chats with ChatGPT saved in an app directly on your phone for easy access rather than having to log in to the website online. However, I did mention that “The ChatGPT app on iPhone is actually incredible.” The reason I specifically said on iPhone is because its iPad counterpart is somewhat lacking. This is because the app is not full screen as it seems to not have been adapted for iPad use. This way, the overall experience is not as fluid, and it somewhat ruins the overall look of the app when you want to use ChatGPT on your iPad. Despite this, I truly believe that this app is going to improve many people’s productivity, and having ChatGPT in an app instead of a website is a no-brainier in my opinion, and most people are probably going to be using this on iPhone anyway. I would say get the app if you are on iPhone, and maybe wait a bit for an update to the iPad version for the time being.

How to use ChatGPT as a Siri shortcut on your iPhone or iPad

lance-31.png

Want to access ChatGPT on your iPhone or iPad? You can always browse to OpenAI's ChatGPT website in Safari every time you want to use it . But a more convenient option is to set up a Siri shortcut that works with the AI. And instead of trying to create your own such shortcut, a few custom predesigned ones are available for you to download and install.

Also:   How to use ChatGPT to create an app

In my testing, I checked out three different ChatGPT Siri shortcuts -- SiriGPT, ChatGPT Siri, and Siri Pro. All of them worked similarly to bring the power of ChatGPT to an iPhone and iPad.

After the shortcut is set up, you're able to trigger it a few different ways. You can open the Shortcuts app and tap the icon for the shortcut. You can add the shortcut to your Home screen where it's more easily available. Plus, you can run the shortcut by telling Siri to activate it.

1. Get API keys

Your first step is to get the necessary API keys from Open AI. These keys are used by a ChatGPT shortcut to send your requests to the ChatGPT service and receive the responses. The process for obtaining the keys is the same no matter which ChatGPT shortcut you use.

Also: Do you like asking ChatGPT questions? You could get paid (a lot) for it

On your iPhone or iPad, open Safari and head to the Open AI platform page . If you don't already have an account with OpenAI, tap the button for Sign up. Otherwise, tap the button for Log in and sign in with your account. Tap the three line hamburger icon in the upper right, scroll to the bottom of the Settings menu, and select your profile. From the profile menu, tap View API keys .

Select the option for View API keys.

2. Create new secret key

At the API keys screen, tap the button for Create new secret key . Press down on the key to select the entire string and then tap Copy. Open a note and paste the key. If you plan to try more than one ChatGPT shortcut, return to the Open AI platform page, tap OK, and then tap Create new secret key to generate another key. Repeat the copy and paste.

Copy and paste the API key.

Now, let's check out each of the three ChatGPT shortcuts.

How to use SiriGPT

1. get the shortcut.

Open the SiriGPT shortcut page on your device and tap the button for Get Shortcut . At the shortcuts screen, tap the button for Add Shortcut . The shortcut appears in the Shortcuts app.

Add the SiriGPT shortcut.

2. Add the API key

Return to the note in which you pasted one or more of the API keys. Select and copy one set of keys. Back in the Shortcuts app, tap the three-dot icon for the SiriGPT shortcut. In the text field, remove the phrase ADD API KEY HERE and then paste the API key you just copied. Tap Done.

Paste the API key.

3. Run SiriGPT

Tap the SiriGPT shortcut to run it. The first time you do this, you'll be asked to allow it access to Speech Recognition. Tap Allow.

Run the shortcut and allow the necessary permissions.

4. Ask a question

Type or speak your request. Tap Allow when asked to connect to api.openai.com. SiriGPT then displays and speaks the response. Tap Done at any point. Tap Done to stop the chat. Tap Ask Again to ask another question.

Read and listen to the response.

How to use ChatGPT Siri

Open the ChatGPT Siri shortcut page in Safari and tap the button for Get Shortcut . At the shortcuts screen, tap the button for Add Shortcut . The shortcut then pops up in the Shortcuts app.

Add the shortcut.

Tap the three-dot icon for the shortcut. In the text field, delete the phrase "Replace this with your own API key!" and paste one of the API keys you copied from Open AI. Tap Done.

3. Ask a question

Tap the ChatGPT shortcut. Type your request in the text field or speak it by tapping the keyboard's microphone icon. Allow ChatGPT to connect to api.openai.com. The response then appears on the screen.

View the response.

How to use Siri Pro

Open the Siri Pro shortcut page in the browser and tap the button for Get Shortcut . At the shortcuts screen, tap the button for Add Shortcut . The shortcut pops up in the Shortcuts app.

Tap the shortcut's three-dot icon. In the text field, delete the phrase "GENERATE & ADD YOUR API KEY HERE" and paste an API key that you copied from Open AI. Tap Done.

Tap the Siri Pro shortcut. Type your request in the text field or speak it by tapping keyboard's microphone icon. Allow Siri Pro to connect to api.openai.com. By default, the shortcut only speaks the response and doesn't display it. But if you're skilled enough with Siri shortcuts, you may be able to tweak this one to display a response on the screen as well.

Listen to the response.

How to trigger a shortcut from the Home screen

Instead of launching a shortcut through the Shortcuts app, you can more easily trigger it from the Home screen.

1. Add to Home screen

To set this up, press down on the icon for one of the ChatGPT shortcuts and select Share. From the Share menu, tap the option for Add to Home Screen . Preview the name and icon for the shortcut and then tap Add.

Add the shortcut to the Home screen.

2. Ask a question

Tap the icon on the Home screen and then speak or type your request to receive a response.

Run the shortcut from the Home screen.

How to trigger a shortcut through Siri

An even quicker way is to run a shortcut through Siri. Simply say: "Hey Siri [name of shortcut]." If Siri doesn't understand that you want it to run a shortcut due to confusion with the name, then your best bet it to rename the shortcut.

To do this, press down on it in the Shortcuts app and select Rename from the menu. Choose a name that won't conflict with an existing command. Try calling on Siri again. Speak or type your request and wait for the response.

Tell Siri to run the shortcut.

OpenAI launches an official ChatGPT app for iOS

OpenAI ChatGPT

ChatGPT is going mobile. Today, OpenAI announced the launch of an official iOS app that allows users to access its popular AI chatbot on the go, months after the App Store was filled with dubious, unofficial services . The new ChatGPT app will be free to use, free from ads, and will allow for voice input, the company says, but will initially be limited to U.S. users at launch.

Like its desktop counterpart, the ChatGPT app allows users to interact with an AI chatbot to ask questions without running a traditional web search, plus get advice, find inspiration, learn, research, and more. Given the issues with Apple’s own voice assistant, Siri, and Apple’s own lack of AI progress, the new release could push more users to try ChatGPT on their phones as their main mobile helper. The launch could also potentially impact Google, as the search engine today benefits from being the default search engine in Safari on Apple’s iPhone.

When using the mobile version of ChatGPT, the app will sync your history across devices — meaning it will know what you’ve previously searched for via its web interface, and make that accessible to you. The app is also integrated with Whisper , OpenAI’s open source speech recognition system, to allow for voice input.

ChatGPT Plus subscribers will be able to access GPT-4’s capabilities through the new app, OpenAI says, in addition to receiving early access to new features and faster response times, the company  notes in its announcement. The subscription offering was launched in February and costs $20 per month for the upgraded features, including access to ChatGPT even during peak times.

The company says the rollout of the new app will start in the U.S. today but it will expand to other countries in the “coming weeks.” An Android version is also teased as “coming soon.”

chat gpt safari ios

OpenAI had been rumored to be working on a mobile client, according to a February  article by Semafor, which the company had then declined to comment on.

The ChatGPT app’s launch comes at a time when major tech companies, including Google, Microsoft, and Facebook, are experimenting with AI, and in the case of Google and Microsoft, also integrating AI capabilities into their search engines — the latter through an expensive partnership with OpenAI, in fact. But being able to access ChatGPT directly on mobile outside of a search engine or browser could potentially shake up how people today use their phones to search and connect with information.

One thing that could be compelling about OpenAI’s mobile app versus search apps’ AI integrations is its ad-free nature. OpenAI alludes to this in its blog post, noting that users can get instant answers “without sifting through ads or multiple results.” The statement is a subtle burn on its own partner, as Bing is already slipping ads into its AI-powered Bing Chat , in addition to somewhat snubbing search engines.

Even ChatGPT’s App Store description touts its ad-free nature, as that’s one of few features it mentions alongside the ability to sync your history and access the newest models from OpenAI.

The app’s arrival also comes only days after Google lifted the waitlist from its own AI chatbot, Bard , which it announced during this month’s Google I/O developer conference was now available in English.

There does seem to be some consumer demand for ChatGPT and AI on the iPhone. Recent research from app store intelligence provider data.ai found that the top 10 mobile AI apps had already generated over $14 million in consumer spending this year, as of late March, and consumers’ average daily spending was up 11% over February.

OpenAI is improving ChatGPT on iPad today with a new update designed to take advantage of the entire iPad screen. The updated ChatGPT app for iOS and iPadOS also includes drag and drop, Siri support, and Shortcuts integration.

iPad support means ChatGPT will now run full-screen on Apple’s tablets, instead of as an iPhone sized app running on a bigger display. Little else has changed for the iPad version though, as you’re still presented with a chat interface and options to switch between GPT-3.5 or GPT-4. OpenAI has also added drag and drop support here, so any messages can now be dragged out of the chat interface and into other apps.

The update also lets you summon ChatGPT from Siri and use the chatbot with Apple’s Shortcuts feature. This lets you generate a ChatGPT query in Shortcuts to start a new chat and integrate that into Apple’s Shortcuts automation.

OpenAI has been gradually improving its ChatGPT app on iOS and iPadOS since launching the mobile version last month , making improvements to chat history and voice input in recent updates. The company also plans to release an app for Android in the near future. OpenAI launched a premium subscription for ChatGPT in February called ChatGPT Plus , that offers priority access and the latest GPT-4 model for $20 a month.

You can now use ChatGPT with Siri using this simple iPhone shortcut

Here's how to combine ChatGPT with Siri, for an AI-powered virtual assistant

Siri

By combining ChatGPT with Siri , you can add a little AI power to Apple's virtual assistant. Thanks to OpenAI releasing API keys for ChatGPT , 2023's favorite AI chatbot can now be integrated pretty much everywhere.

To pair ChatGPT with Siri and to make the chatbot virtual assistant dream team, you'll need to use a custom Shortcut, plenty of which can be found online. The shortcut then fires up Siri, listens to your question, calls on ChatGPT using your API key and runs your question through it. Then it displays a response.

We'll show you how to do all of that, using a pre-made shortcut. Read on to see how to use ChatGPT with Siri.

How to use ChatGPT with Siri

Before we get started, you'll need to create an OpenAI account. We run through how to sign up in our guide on how to use ChatGPT .

1. Download the SiriGPT shortcut

A screenshot showing how to use ChatGPT with Siri

Open the SiriGPT shortcut page and tap Add shortcut .

2. Get your your OpenAI API Keys

A screenshot showing how to use ChatGPT with Siri

Head to platform.openai.com and log into your OpenAI account , then tap the three lines icon , top right. Tap your profile at the bottom of the Settings Menu, then tap View API keys .

3. Copy your secret API key

A screenshot showing how to use ChatGPT with Siri

Tap Create new secret key , then tap the copy icon and tap OK to close the window.

4. Add your API into the SiriGPT shortcut

A screenshot showing how to use ChatGPT with Siri

5. Enable Dictation

A screenshot showing how to use ChatGPT with Siri

Scroll down the shortcut flow chart until you see Enable Dictation underneath a red warning flag (if you don't see it, you may already have Dictation enabled so skip to step 6). Tap Enable Dictation , then toggle Enable Dictation on and tap Enable Dictation again .

6. Allow SiriGPT Speech Recognition access

A screenshot showing how to use ChatGPT with Siri

Go back to the Shortcuts menu and tap SiriGPT . A Privacy warning will pop up asking you to allow the shortcut access to Speech Recognition. This is so you can ask ChatGPT questions vocally. Tap Allow .

7. Allow SiriGPT to use your OpenAI API

A screenshot showing how to use ChatGPT with Siri

Tap the SiriGPT shortcut again to run it, and ask a question . A Privacy pop up will appear asking you to allow SiriGPT to send text to the OpenAI API. This is to run your prompt through ChatGPT. Tap Always Allow or Allow Once (the latter will mean you need to do this every time).

8. Finish the interaction

A screenshot showing how to use ChatGPT with Siri

You'll now get an answer. Tap Done , then either tap Ask Again if you want to ask something else. When you're finished, tap Done . You can now use the shortcut through the Shortcuts app, but we're going to show you a better way to use it.

9. Open the Back Tap menu

A screenshot showing how to use ChatGPT with Siri

We're now going to assign SiriGPT to back tap. You can simply ask Siri to "run SiriGPT", but Back Tap is a bit slicker. Open Settings and tap Accessibility . Tap Touch and then tap Back Tap .

10. Assign SiriGPT to Back Tap

These are the five ChatGPT improvements Apple is planning to bring to Siri with iOS 18

Siri is getting an upgrade.

Siri on iOS 17 on an iPhone 14 Pro

WWDC 2024 is just around the corner and a new report claims Apple has signed a deal with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT’s power to Siri in iOS 18 . With murmurings of Apple AI over the last year or so, we can’t wait to see what Apple has to offer.

That said, this new report from The Information gives us a good indication of what to expect when Tim Cook takes the stage on June 10. Here are the five improvements Apple is planning to bring to Siri, courtesy of OpenAI and ChatGPT.

MacBook deals: Amazon | B&H Photo | Best Buy

More complex queries

According to The Information’s report , Apple engineers conducted tests in which they “connected ChatGPT to Siri, creating impressive demonstrations of Siri handling more complex queries than usual, including by better understanding the context of what users were saying.”

We all know Siri isn’t the most intelligent of voice assistance, often misunderstanding what you ask it and giving a completely wrong answer in response. With ChatGPT on board, we fully expect to see a more intelligent Siri, that should make iOS 18’s assistant actually worth using. That means we could be asking Siri detailed questions with follow-ups, akin to a real-life conversation very soon.

More responsive and engaging

Siri could put most iPhone users to sleep, and because it’s built into iOS it doesn’t even matter if you own one of the best iPhones or not, it’s still incredibly robotic and boring to chat with. Expect OpenAI’s inclusion in iOS 18 to make Siri more engaging, offering a more conversational tone and just a better all-round experience. If incorporated correctly, Siri should also become more responsive as well, as the OpenAI LLM is far superior to anything we’ve ever seen used with the voice assistant in the past.

Translation improvements

Yes, Siri can translate already but it’s often slow to respond and doesn’t quite understand the context of what you’re asking it to do. One of the best things to ask ChatGPT is, “Teach me (insert language).” This prompt will give you some common phrases and enough expressions to get by in any foreign country. You can even ask for a structured learning plan that will help you learn a language over a few months. If Siri can incorporate ChatGPT’s intelligence when it comes to languages and translation then you might start using Siri as your conversational buddy to learn a foreign language.

Better search

How many times have you asked Siri something and it directs you to Safari web pages? It’s incredibly annoying when you just want the answer to a question. With ChatGPT’s power, Siri will be able to actually give you the answer to questions by searching the web. If Apple were to allow you to use Siri above an application, rather than preventing you from using your iPhone or iPad while activating the voice assistant, this could become the biggest improvement to Siri we’ve ever seen. “Hey, Siri, who won SuperBowl XI and where was it held?” could prompt an actual response rather than a webpage.

Much more entertaining

Finally, bringing ChatGPT on board would just make Siri far more entertaining and enjoyable to use. We mentioned the voice assistant becoming more engaging but with ChatGPT’s power Siri could become a fun party trick that you actually want to activate and use. Imagine asking Siri for a funny joke and it actually tells you one? Or how about asking Siri to sing you a song and you don’t get a robotic reply? While these may not be the most useful examples of a Siri powered by ChatGPT, they give a good indication of a feature on your iPhone that you won’t just forget about and leave to gather dust. Apple AI is very exciting and with the news of a signed deal between Apple and OpenAI, we should be seeing these improvements sooner rather than later.

Apple has already started to make a big deal about the AI capabilities of its new products like the M3 MacBook Air and M4 iPad Pro . If you're interested in the future of Siri and want to get the most out of AI on an Apple device, why not treat yourself to an upgrade:

How to use ChatGPT on Mac

ChatGPT can live on a Mac

chat gpt safari ios

OpenAI launched ChatGPT in November, built on the company's GPT-3 machine learning models. Companies such as Microsoft have integrated it while others — including Google — fear it .

It has various applications to answer questions and generate text, and a new app has appeared that brings it to the Mac menu bar.

Created by Jordi Bruin, MacGPT is a macOS app available for free, though people can add their own price to help support the developer.

Once a user logs in with their OpenAI credentials, they can click the menu bar icon to start a conversation. It's also possible to assign it a keyboard shortcut to activate MacGPT without needing a mouse or trackpad.

How to use ChatGPT on Mac with MacGPT

MacGPT is available to run on macOS versions of Monterey and Ventura.

  • Visit Bruin's webpage on Gumroad .
  • Enter 0 in the price box to download it for free — but we recommend throwing Bruin a few bucks.
  • Click " I want this! " and the 3.1MB download will start immediately.
  • Double-click on the zip file in your Downloads folder, then drag the app to the Applications folder .

A Web tab inside the app allows you to log in with OpenAI credentials. Visit the OpenAI website to sign up for a free account. Under the Native tab, accessing ChatGPT via API credentials found in your OpenAI account user settings is possible.

How to use ChatGPT on Mac - Examples of questions and prompts

The MacGPT app notes that this provides faster responses and a more fluid experience. After logging in, the app shows prompts straight from OpenAI.

These prompts remind users that it's currently a research preview and that some of the information generated might be incorrect, misleading, offensive, or biased.

ChatGPT offers various example prompts with which to get started. For example, type "Explain quantum computing in simple terms" or "Got any creative ideas for a 10-year-old's birthday?"

Once a question or statement is answered, ChatGPT will generate a response. Depending on the query, some results can be longer than others. If it's taking a while, there is a button to stop it from running.

It wasn't that simple

At the bottom of the answer are buttons to like or dislike a response. OpenAI added that option as a way for people to give feedback on ChatGPT's reponses in case it "hallucinates," which means it can provide an answer that is false or not supported by its training data.

Additionally, MacGPT and the ChatGPT website save conversations in a history so users can revisit them. It's also possible to access ChatGPT via OpenAI's website , and it's functionally identical to MacGPT without unique features.

How-To Geek

How to replace siri with chatgpt on your iphone.

Use ChatGPT within Siri by saying "Hey Siri, ChatGPT!"

Quick Links

Add the chatgpt shortcut to your iphone, trigger chatgpt using siri, use the chatgpt shortcut for text chats too, use of the chatgpt api isn't free, use chatgpt in a browser for free, use bing chat (gpt-4) with the bing app, why use chatgpt with siri, more chatgpt alternatives, key takeaways.

To use ChatGPT with Siri on an iPhone or iPad, get an OpenAI API key and download the ChatGPT Siri shortcut. Enter your API key in the shortcut setup and select the GPT model you want to use, then hit "Add Shortcut." Trigger the shortcut manually first to allow permissions, then start asking Siri to trigger the shortcut.

Siri can control your iPhone, but it's nowhere near as powerful as ChatGPT . Fortunately, you can add ChatGPT to your iPhone and talk to it with your voice, using Siri as a gateway to ChatGPT. Here's how.

ChatGPT Siri integration works using Apple's Shortcuts app and the OpenAI API. You can trigger the ChatGPT shortcut using Siri, after which you can dictate your request. This request is sent to OpenAI's servers, processed, and a response is returned to you. Note that using the OpenAI API is not free---you'll get some sign-on credit to start with, but to keep using it, you'll eventually have to pay up, as we'll explain. (However, it's very cheap---much cheaper than even ChatGPT Plus.)

There are many different methods of invoking ChatGPT through Siri using a Shortcut; you could even build your own. Today we'll be using ChatGPT Siri by Yue-Yang . We chose this because it works and has been updated several times, and new versions of the shortcut are available alongside the old on the author's GitHub page.

To start with, you'll need to generate an OpenAI API key  for use with the Shortcut. You can do this by heading to the OpenAI API Keys page in your user settings. If you don't already have an account, register with OpenAI, log in, and access the API key page.

Click on the "Create New Secret Key" button, and a new API key will be generated. Copy this to a safe place, and don't show it to anyone else; you'll need it to set up the shortcut we'll be using.

You can complete this next step on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, and the Shortcut will sync between platforms. Head to the ChatGPT Siri GitHub page  and grab the latest version of the shortcut. You'll find it listed on the main page via a link for the "English Version." At the time of writing, the latest version is ChatGPT Siri 1.2.4 .

When you tap or click on the shortcut, you'll see a "Set Up Shortcut" button. Tap or click it, and you'll be asked to provide your API key. Paste the API key into the text field provided and move on to the next step.

Now you'll see the default prompt that seeds every ChatGPT interaction. You can leave this as-is, or you can change it depending on your preference.

Lastly, select the model you want to use. You can choose between GPT-3.5 Turbo and GPT-4. The former is cheaper in terms of API calls and faster, while GPT-4 is more advanced, requires more processing, and is slower.

Hit the "Add Shortcut" button. You can now trigger this from the Shortcuts app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac; using the macOS menu bar , or using a home screen widget .

It's a good idea to run the Shortcut manually on your iPhone before doing so via Siri. Hit the "ChatGPT 1.2.4" shortcut you just made and ask ChatGPT a random question (try "tell me a story"), then you'll get a prompt asking you to grant access to OpenAI's website, which you should accept.

Finally, grant the shortcut access to your clipboard (so it can automatically copy responses to your clipboard). You should now see the response to your query appear in a window.

Related: How to Add ChatGPT to Your Apple Watch

You can trigger ChatGPT by mentioning the shortcut by name to Siri. So if you have Siri on always-listening mode, you can say "Hey Siri, ChatGPT 1.2.4" (or whatever the shortcut you created is called). If all goes well, you'll see the response "I am here, always at your service!"

This is your cue to hit ChatGPT with a query. If you wait too long, Siri will stop listening and you'll see messages like "Still working..." and "One sec..." before being notified that "I'm having trouble with the connection" or similar.

For best results, consider naming your ChatGPT shortcut something else so that Siri better understands you. You can do this by launching Shortcuts on your iPhone, tapping and holding the Shortcut, and selecting "Rename" from the available options.

Now Siri will run your ChatGPT shortcut using your new name. So if you rename the shortcut "GPT" you can say "Hey, Siri GPT" to start your chat.

The ChatGPT shortcut will quickly move on to the next prompt once you have received a reply, so it works best for short queries. Remember you can always ask the chatbot to "repeat your last answer" to see the response in full. Alternatively, running the shortcut from within the Shortcuts app lets you take the conversation at your own pace.

You'll need to hit "Done" after every response received before typing a reply to keep the conversation going. This works best for more in-depth responses, like recipes, long explainers, stories, quizzes, lists, and other things ChatGPT is good at .

When you first sign up for an account to use ChatGPT, you'll get $18 in credit to use across OpenAI's APIs. This credit will eventually expire, and you'll need to purchase more to continue making API calls. That means that this method of using ChatGPT won't be free forever.

You can see your current usage on the OpenAI Usage page . Each ChatGPT response amounts to a fraction of a cent, with a full breakdown available on the OpenAI Pricing page .

Add your card details and set usage limits on the OpenAI Billing page if you want to continue using OpenAI's APIs.

If you've run out of OpenAI credit and don't fancy setting up a paid account to continue using ChatGPT via Siri, use the good old ChatGPT website instead.

You can use the web-based version of ChatGPT for free from a mobile device like your iPhone or a desktop web browser on a Mac or PC. It's subject to limits on usage during busy periods  unless you're subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, and you'll need to log in and verify you're human to use it so it's not seamless like Siri integration.

While standard free-tier users of ChatGPT must wait for GPT-4 integration, Bing has been using the latest version of the model for a while now. All you need to do is sign up for Bing Chat to use Microsoft's sea r ch AI assistant . Microsoft has removed the waiting period for its GPT-based chat function, but usage is still limited to certain apps.

On the desktop, you'll need to use Microsoft Edge (at the time of writing), while mobile users are limited to the Bing apps for iPhone and Android . Download Bing for your iPhone, log in with an account that has Bing Chat access, and start chatting right away.

Siri is useful for doing things with apps and services that reside on your iPhone. You can compose messages, place calls, add reminders, take new notes, launch apps, and even restart your iPhone using Siri . Siri can handle simple web requests too, but it's simply not as good as Google's or Amazon's assistants in this regard.

Related: Why ChatGPT Is Not a Replacement for Siri and Google Assistant

By comparison, ChatGPT has been trained on a huge snapshot of the web's knowledge. OpenAI's chatbot is far from perfect , but its ability to provide interesting, useful, or just plain amusing answers to queries cannot be matched by Siri.

For example, you can ask ChatGPT to create you a recipe using items you have in your fridge (even if they don't go well together). You can use it to create a quiz about any topic you can think of (though it's answers aren't always correct), tell you jokes that might not make sense, or "make up" a story about a random topic.

ChatGPT and other AI generative systems aren't "thinking" or being creative in the way that human beings are , rather they're predicting patterns based on the underlying language model.

Google Bard is another search-engine-driven AI chatbot you might want to try if Bing isn't cutting it. OpenAI Playground, GitHub CoPilot, and Jasper are among some of the other ChatGPT alternatives you might want to try .

Siri is still useful too. Check out some of the useful things you can do with Siri .

Apple finally signed a deal to bring ChatGPT's brains to billions of iPhones and power much-needed iOS 18 Siri upgrades

W hen Apple announces the iOS 18 iPhone software update at WWDC 2024 on June 10, it's expected to bring with it a slew of new AI-powered features. Rumors previously claimed that Apple was in talks with Open AI and Google about using their respective chatbot technologies to make that happen — and now a new report claims those discussions have borne fruit.

That report claims that it's OpenAI's ChatGPT that will prove to be the key to the future of AI on the iPhone and that a deal has been struck between Apple and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. It's anticipated the deal could be worth billions of dollars in the long run.

If this report is accurate Apple's deal could open the door to big upgrades for Siri, and it suggests that some have already been made.

It's Siri, but not as we know it

A report by The Information suggests that a deal has finally been agreed after months of talks that began around a year ago. It's also reported that OpenAI's recent technology demonstration, during which ChatGPT 4o was announced, was aimed at showing Apple just how powerful its technology could be, possibly when paired with the Siri digital assistant.

In reality, Apple has already been able to tie ChatGPT into Siri for in-house testing, and the results appear to be exactly what iPhone owners will be hoping for.

"Apple has discussed potentially using OpenAI’s tech in the Siri voice assistant to answer complex questions that Siri couldn't answer by itself," the report explains, citing unnamed sources. The report also notes that Apple has been using a ChatGPT API to test its plans. "In those tests, Apple engineers connected ChatGPT to Siri, creating impressive demonstrations of Siri handling more complex queries than usual, including by better understanding the context of what users were saying."

Apple's WWDC event is expected to see Apple debut the iOS 18 update and its new features, but users will have to wait until September to install it. Between now and then we can expect a months-long beta program to put the update through its paces to ensure it's ready for prime time.

Apple finally signed a deal to bring ChatGPT's brains to billions of iPhones and power much-needed iOS 18 Siri upgrades

iOS 18 could finally make Siri useful again thanks to rumored ChatGPT deal

A Siri x ChatGPT partnership is looking more likely

An iPhone on an orange background showing Siri

Rumors of a partnership between Apple and OpenAI have been swirling for some time now, but it looks like the two companies have finally inked a deal to bring ChatGPT functionality to iOS 18 and other Apple operating systems .

According to a recent The Information report (via AppleInsider ), OpenAI has agreed to help the iPhone maker bring AI features to its various platforms, and although details of the deal are still under wraps, we’re willing to bet that Apple’s Siri voice assistant could soon be overhauled with OpenAI’s ChatGPT -powering large language model ( LLM ).

What does that mean, exactly? It’s hard to say for sure right now – Apple will likely tell us more at WWDC 2024 in June – but it seems safe to expect that a new-and-improved Siri will use the power of ChatGPT to answer voice-based queries in a more responsive, accurate and nuanced manner than it’s currently capable of offering .

This isn’t to say that Siri is about to become ChatGPT in all but name. Apple has always seen – and, we suspect, still sees – Siri as an assistant rather than a chatbot , and the company will surely continue to prioritize privacy over do-it-all functionality.

But the on-device processing behind Siri in its current guise just isn’t up to scratch in 2024. As such, this reported deal could see Apple harness OpenAI’s ChatGPT LLM to boost Siri’s question-answering ability in a way that doesn’t compromise user privacy.

Siri and ChatGPT

Think of it like this: right now, Siri is a fairly useless middle-man between the user and Google . You ask Siri a question, and it presents you with a list of popular Google search results that may or may not give you the answer you’re looking for. Crucially, though, Siri doesn’t tell Google that it’s you who asked the question.

A ChatGPT-powered Siri could work in much the same way, but instead of returning a list of Google search results for you to manually sift through, it could anonymously ask ChatGPT for a simple, succinct answer to your query, which it then passes along to you.

But wait! “How is this solution different from the voice-compatible ChatGPT app, which is already available on iPhones?” I hear you ask. Well, as good as ChatGPT's baked-in Voice function is, it’s not embedded into your iPhone in the same way that Siri is. This reported deal between OpenAI and Apple could rectify that hiccup, combining the benefits of assistant and chatbot in a way that maintains Apple’s signature style and simplicity.

The deal would seemingly benefit OpenAI too. A recent study revealed that only a tiny proportion of people with access to ChatGPT use it on a daily basis , and while that lack of uptake is likely down to questions over accuracy rather than accessibility, there’s no denying that baking generative AI tools into consumer products would encourage more users to adopt them in their daily lives.

As mentioned, we’re likely to hear Apple shed more light on its reported OpenAI partnership at WWDC 2024, which is due to kick off on June 10. For info on how to tune into the hotly-anticipated developer conference, check out our how to watch WWDC 2024 guide.

Hands down, ChatGPT is one of the most popular AI chatbots available out there. You can use it to brainstorm ideas, create travel itineraries, generate code, and much more. Plus, with the release of the official ChatGPT app for iOS, interacting with the chatbot on your iPhone has never been easier.

However, since the official ChatGPT app for iOS is relatively new, users occasionally face issues with the app on their iPhones. If you’re also facing the same issue on your iPhone, don’t worry! This guide will take you through a list of quick solutions to fix the issue.

  • Force quit and restart ChatGPT
  • Check for network-related issues
  • Check if ChatGPT servers are down
  • Ensure ChatGPT has access to cellular data
  • Disconnect VPN
  • Sign out and sign in to ChatGPT
  • Update or reinstall ChatGPT
  • Access ChatGPT from a web browser
  • Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus
  • Contact OpenAI for tech support

1. Force quit and restart ChatGPT

If you’re having trouble using the ChatGPT app on your iPhone , one of the quickest solutions you can employ to fix this would be to force quit the app and restart it. This basic solution can often help you fix several glitches that may arise within apps on your iPhone. Here are the steps for the same:

  • Open the  App Switcher on your iPhone.

Force quit and restart ChatGPT

  • Then,  reopen the ChatGPT app to see if it’s working correctly.

2. Check for network-related issues

Like any other web-based utility, ChatGPT needs the internet to work on your iPhone. It’s absolutely necessary to ensure that you are connected to a strong Wi-Fi or cellular network that’s free from any technical issues. You can also  run an internet speed test  to check if everything works properly.

In case your iPhone is linked to a strong Wi-Fi or cellular network, but you still can’t use the ChatGPT app, follow the steps listed below. These steps will help you reconnect your iPhone to the internet and fix network issues.

  • Open the  Control Center  on your iPhone.

Check for network related issues

  • Try using the ChatGPT app  to see if it’s working correctly.

3. Check if ChatGPT servers are down

If the ChatGPT servers are down, you will not be able to use the app, even if you have a stable internet connection. To confirm that this is not the case, you can verify ChatGPT’s server status from OpenAI’s server status page .

ChatGPT OpenAi Server Status Page

In case the servers are experiencing an outage, there’s nothing you can do about it other than wait until they are back online. However, if you can’t use the ChatGPT app even when the servers are up and running, you may want to check out the other solutions suggested in this troubleshooting guide.

4. Ensure ChatGPT has access to cellular data

In case you prefer using ChatGPT over cellular data but can only access it if you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network, you must check if the ChatGPT app has permission to access cellular data on your iPhone:

  • Open the  Settings app  on your iPhone → Select  Cellular .

Toggle on Cellular data

5. Disconnect VPN

Although VPNs offer a great way to mask your digital footprint and protect your private data from the websites you visit,  using VPNs  can interfere with ChatGPT’s ability to ping OpenAI’s server to load content. You must ensure that you disconnect your iPhone from the VPN before using ChatGPT again.

It’s relatively easy to disconnect your iPhone from a VPN. Open the Settings app → toggle off VPN .

Ensure that VPN is turned off on iPhone

6. Sign out and sign in to ChatGPT

Glitches with your login credentials can also prevent the ChatGPT app from working properly. If you think this is what’s causing the issue on your iPhone, you can try signing out and logging in to see if that does the trick for you.

  • Launch the ChatGPT app on your iPhone.
  • Tap the three dots menu → Select Settings .

Sign out from ChatGPT app

  • Relogin to ChatGPT using your preferred option.

7. Update or reinstall ChatGPT

Critical bugs or glitches within the ChatGPT app might also prevent it from working on your iPhone. If you want to resolve such issues, your best bet will be to update the ChatGPT app or reinstall it if no updates are available.

  • Open the  App Store  → Tap your  profile picture  at the top right corner.
  • Scroll down and check if an update for the ChatGPT app is available.

Update ChatGPT app

  • Tap and hold ChatGPT’s app icon.

Delete ChatGPT app from iPhone

  • Open the  App Store  → Go to the  Search tab →  Search for  ChatGPT .

Download ChatGPT from App store

8. Access ChatGPT from a web browser

Many times bugs within the ChatGPT app can indefinitely prevent it from working on your iPhone. If you suspect that this is what’s causing the issue, you should try to access ChatGPT from its web interface  using either Safari or any other third-party web browser that may be available on your iPhone.

9. Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus

If you’re still experiencing issues using ChatGPT on your iPhone, you might want to consider upgrading to ChatGPT Plus .

ChatGPT Plus lets you access a handful of exclusive features that aren’t available in the free version, such as priority access to the service even during peak hours, which might help you fix the issue. To upgrade to ChatGPT Plus, you may follow these steps:

  • Open the ChatGPT app on your iPhone.
  • Tap the three-dot icon → Select Settings .

Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus

  • Authenticate the transaction to confirm your choice.

10. Contact OpenAI for tech support

If none of the previously suggested solutions helped you resolve the issue, it’s recommended to report the problem to OpenAI for prompt resolution.

  • Tap the three-dot icon → Settings → Help Center .
  • Select the Message bubble in the bottom right corner.

Ask question in help center

  • Describe the issue you’re facing in the chat.

ChatGPT app on iPhone fixed!

ChatGPT’s official app for iOS offers the most convenient way to access the powerful AI chatbot from the palm of your hand. However, if you can’t use the ChatGPT app on your iPhone, the solutions listed in this troubleshooting guide should help you fix it without any hassle. We’re less than two weeks from Apple’s big WWDC 2024 event, where artificial intelligence will be at the center of everything. GenAI features will be built into iOS 18 , iPadOS 18, and macOS 15. Most of them will run locally on the device. Apple should also release a smarter Siri that will supposedly handle more complex queries. But that Siri might not work on Apple tech alone. OpenAI appears to be the likeliest partner for iOS 18’s chatbot abilities.

A new report sheds more information on Apple’s supposed partnership with OpenAI. Apparently, the deal has been in the making for months. Not only that, but Apple may use OpenAI’s ChatGPT language models to power some of the most complex new Siri features.

The deal supposedly has Microsoft worried, even though an OpenAI partnership with Apple could be lucrative for Microsoft as well. The software giant is the biggest investor in OpenAI.

According to The Information ( via 9to5Mac ), Apple began meeting with OpenAI as early as mid-2023. That’s several months before rumors emerged that Apple was searching for an AI partner.

In those tests, Apple engineers connected ChatGPT to Siri, creating impressive demonstrations of Siri handling more complex queries than usual, including by better understanding the context of what users were saying.

I’m a longtime iPhone user who has been mocking Siri for years. I hope these claims are accurate and Apple will indeed make Siri smarter with the help of a third-party large language model.

As for privacy, Apple will want to make it clear to users when a Siri response is coming from ChatGPT.

GPT-4o is a new multimodal model that will power ChatGPT Free and Plus.

I have high hopes that Apple will build strong privacy protections into the AI features coming to iOS 18, including the Siri chatbot.

While I’d prefer ChatGPT integration in iOS 18 over Gemini, it’s also likely that the current Siri experience isn’t good enough in the age of AI. If Siri gets chatbot functionality, we’ll need a separate Siri app in iOS. I’d want to keep track of some conversations so I can return to them the way I can with ChatGPT.

I say that without actually knowing what Apple’s chatbot implementation in iOS 18 will look like. None of the reports we got on the matter have detailed it. Then again, Apple is undoubtedly aware of the current ChatGPT experience and user expectations. It’ll want to match and build on those experiences.

Whatever the case, and whatever chatbot Apple might have chosen for iOS 18, we’ll learn everything about it on June 10th during Apple’s opening keynote from WWDC 2024.

5 Reasons to Use OpenAI's ChatGPT App for Mac

On May 13, OpenAI during its Spring Update announced that it would be releasing a desktop ChatGPT app for the Mac in the "coming weeks," and said that ahead of a wider launch it had started rolling out the app to some ChatGPT Plus subscribers.

Access the ChatGPT Launcher

For a while now, it's been possible to use OpenAI's chatbot on iPhone via the official ChatGPT iOS app , but most desktop users have relied on visiting the website in a browser. Thanks to ChatGPT for Mac, things feel a lot more integrated. Using the keyboard shortcut Option + Space, you can instantly invoke the app's Launcher and ask the conversational AI to help you with some task or project, but you also get fast access to several other key features.

6chatgpt mac app

Take a Screenshot

Clicking the paperclip icon also brings up some useful additional options, such as the ability to take a screenshot of any open app window (even if it's off-screen) or your entire desktop, and query it with ChatGPT. For example, we queried a screenshot of a recent MacRumors article covering Apple Music's Top 10 Albums of All Time , and asked ChatGPT to provide a summary of top critics' reviews for each album, which it duly did.

1chatgpt mac app screenshot

Take a Photo

"Take a Photo" is another option that you can access via the paperclip button. Clicking it automatically brings up the current output of your Mac's FaceTime camera or an attached webcam.

chatgpt photo

The only problem right now is that the shutter button remains on the camera feed on your Mac's screen, rather than switching to your ‌iPhone‌. This is probably an oversight that OpenAI will rectify soon.

Customize ChatGPT

In the app's settings (accessed via ChatPGT ➝ Settings… in the menu bar when the app's main window is active) there are several options that let you customize how ChatGPT works. You can control whether or not OpenAI uses your content to train its models, as well as change the desktop launcher keyboard shortcut and enable/disable GPT capabilities including web browsing, DALL·E image generator, and Code Interpreter.

chatgpt mac customization

The main app window also lets you access your conversation history and switch between any custom GPTs you have parked in your sidebar. Not only that, you can choose which version of ChatGPT you wish to query. For example, the introduction of the new multimodal GPT-4o model enhances response times, improves reasoning capabilities, and offers a better understanding of images and other content types.

When interacting with ChatGPT in the app's main window, there are buttons to dictate your query or alternatively start a two-way voice chat with the bot. In theory it sounds great, but in practice there's a delay between responses, and you have to wait for ChatGPT to stop speaking before you can give it a follow-up query or command. It's also not possible to access other features like taking a photo via voice. Fortunately, there's more to come on this front.

chatgpt voice mac

If you are a regular user of ChatGPT on Mac, using OpenAI's official app should be your go-to method of interacting with the AI chatbot. For a first version, the client is surprisingly polished, and invoking the Launcher via a keyboard shortcut makes using ChatGPT quicker and easier than ever before. It also offers a peek into a possible future where ChatGPT is fully integrated with Apple's operating systems.

  • Apple Wrapping Up OpenAI Deal to Bring ChatGPT Features to iOS 18

Note that the ChatGPT Mac app is currently only available to Plus subscribers ($20 per month), and only a limited subset of those users have been offered the download so far. We will say that there are download links to the app floating around on social media, and there is a fairly reliable way for any Plus subscriber to bypass the waitlist and get it to work. But if you have the patience to wait in line, OpenAI says that the ChatGPT Mac app will be available to users "more broadly in the coming weeks."

How to skip the ChatGPT for Mac waitlist and get access now

Avatar for Michael Potuck

OpenAI launched its native ChatGPT Mac app this month alongside GPT-4o. But while anyone can install the Mac app, your account will need to be invited to early access – unless you use this workaround. Here’s how it works.

Just yesterday, OpenAI shared that the macOS app is limited to “Plus and Team users” and that it will be rolling out more widely “in the coming weeks.”

My colleague Zac has been using it and shared some handy tips and tricks for Mac users:

  • Apple Shortcuts and ChatGPT for Mac

Ok, here’s how to get the app and then bypass the waitlist:

How to download ChatGPT for Mac

  • If you’re a Plus, Team, or Enterprise user, log in to ChatGPT on the web > click your profile icon in the top right corner > choose Download the App
  • You can also download ChatGPT for Mac directly with the link at the top of this OpenAI thread

OpenAI says that macOS 14 and Apple Silicon M1 or later are required for the Mac app.

How to skip the waitlist

Discovered and shared by Diego Jimenez , here’s the workaround to skip the waitlist:

  • Open ChatGPT for Mac and login
  • Quit the app after the window size changes but before the login error appears (use command + Q for speed)
  • Relaunch the app and it should be working
How to bypass the #ChatGPT macOS app waitlist: 1. Launch the app and login 2. Quit the app (cmd+Q) when the window size changes, but right before the login error alert shows up 3. iOS 18's potential ChatGPT features reportedly worry Microsoft

Published on 13 hours ago

Siri on Apple iPhone 12 Mini stock photo 3

  • Apple’s own large language models (LLMs) reportedly aren’t capable enough to replicate ChatGPT, which has pushed it toward third-party partnerships.
  • The company may have internally tested a ChatGPT-powered Siri, and iOS 18 users could get their hands on it later this year.
  • Microsoft could be worried about the Apple-OpenAI deal, as it would have to accommodate the increasing server demand and compete against Apple’s features.

In under two weeks, Apple will finally reveal iOS 18 and its rumored AI additions at WWDC24 . Given that the iPhone maker’s own AI efforts may still be lacking, it has reportedly resorted to third-party partnerships to power some of these smart features. As a result, OpenAI’s ChatGPT could be fueling Siri and other AI functionalities on iOS 18, and Microsoft is worried about it.

According to a report by The Information , Apple has internally tested a version of Siri that relies on ChatGPT’s smarts. The Cupertino firm is reportedly not ready to offer its own chatbot yet, pushing it to seek third-party alternatives for the time being. Meanwhile, it will likely use its own LLMs to power the less demanding iOS 18 features, such as on-device summarization.

The potential Apple-OpenAI partnership for iOS 18’s AI features is reportedly worrying Microsoft. After all, OpenAI relies on its servers to deliver some of its services. So, adding Apple users to the mix could overwhelm Microsoft’s data centers. For reference, there are more than 2.2 billion active Apple devices right now. That’s not to mention that Microsoft would also have to compete with whatever AI features Apple bakes into its platforms.

WWDC24 kicks off on June 10, and we expect Apple to reveal iOS 18, iPadOS18, macOS 15, and watchOS 11 during its opening keynote. The company’s upcoming operating system updates could introduce some significant AI features that we will learn more about very soon.
