Behind the Movie Journey: Film maker AR Murugadoss known for good taste has come up with this venture in Tamil as ‘Engeyum Eppodum,’ directed by Saravanan. Enjoying the super duper success, now the same is dubbed in Telugu as ‘Journey’ brought to us by Kondeti Suresh. Let us see, where this ‘Journey’ has led us to?

In the Movie Journey: Two buses, one a Private and other a Government bus coming in opposite directions traveling from Hyderabad to Vijayawada and Vijaywada to Hyderabad crash each other at Suryapet leading to several deaths. Story unfolds here in the form of flashback with two of the love couples present in these buses.

First is, Amrutha (Ananya) completed her Engineering has come to Hyderabad in search of a job. In an unfortunate situation, she takes help of Gautham (Sharwanand) to reach the interview location traveling in RTC buses and sharing autos. Later on, Amrutha lives city but her memories with Gautham turn into true love and vice versa. While Gautham lives to Vijayawada to meet Amrutha, at the same time Amrutha starts to Hyderabad. As both their attempts go in vain, a disappointed Amrutha boards the bus back to Vijayawada and Gautham takes the bus back to Hyderabad.

Second is the love story of innocent, soft spoken ITI guy Krishna (Jai) working in a machinery work shop in Vijayawada is in love with out spoken and practical nurse Madhumati (Anjali). After some really interesting incidents, Krishna wanted Madhumati to meet his parents in Munaguru near Suryapet. Accordingly they board the same bus which Gautham takes from Vijaywada. Then are these two buses facing a mishap near Suryapet. How did love stories of these two couples end forms the heart touching climax.

Values of the Movie Journey:  Main strength of this film lies in scripting, characterization and emotional story telling with crude dose of reality. Saravanan is a winner all the way for visualizing such a story which has the message but not at all preaching oriented. He has the guts and goods are delivered. Cinematography of Velraj is one of the best works ever seen in recent times with camera angles are to just leave you astonished. Well supported is the background score of Sathya that makes you feel like a passenger in this terrific journey. Although makers have tried to inculcate some sort of Telugu nativity yet the Aravam smell remained in tact. Editing by Kishore Te is also appreciative. Hats off to Suresh Kondeti for giving this kind of flick to Telugu audience.

Performance wise, Sharwanand is suave, well suited to his character. Ananya is cute and bubbly with innocent looks. Jai has become a scene stealer as story proceeded on. Anjali has the charm and is very confident. Of the remaining star cast none can be remembered. 

Out of the Movie Journey: Everyday we hear of numerous accidents happening on Highways due to over speed or various other reasons. We feel pity for the death count but never realize the plight of those who are bereaved. Saravanan focused exactly on this aspect of bringing emotions out of many co-passengers in this journey, who have no connection even with main story.  Saravanan speaks of Organ Donation, Responsibilities of Citizens, Heart to Serve the Needful and many more without boring you. Even though there are some weak narrative moments that brought some sort of lag in second half yet ‘Journey’ haunts you even after completion of the film.

First of all, last half an hour of the film with mind blowing camera work catching the mishap episode is a compulsory watch for everyone. Intelligence of director is felt every time he swayed between present and flashback without disturbing the mood of audience. Such is the mark of quality which is much more enhanced by performances from lead star cast. 

Forget the first and second half…both are best in their own ways yet commercial successes of this genre of films is always doubtful due to lacking of universal appealing elements. For research oriented cinema lovers, ‘Journey’ will be definitely a memorable experience. All those who have habit of making journeys in buses, this flick will pinch you.

‘Journey’ Review: Director Cheran’s web series is a disappointing watch

Director cheran’s ott debut, ‘journey’ is a web series about five youngsters vying for a vacant position in a company. the show is crammed with stale ideas, says our review. .

Director Cheran is a Tamil filmmaker known for his realistic portrayal of complexities in human relationships in his films. His last directorial venture was ‘Thirumanam’ in 2019, which ended up being a failure. After four years, Cheran is all set to make his OTT debut with ‘Journey,’ now streaming on SonyLiv.

The story revolves around five characters — Ameer Sultan (Kalaiyarasan), Divya Bharathi (Latha), Raghav (Prasanna), Nitesh (Kashyap Barbhaya), and Pranav (Aari Arjunan) — who have reached the final round of interviews at an automobile company. The company’s owner (Sarathkumar) can select only one person for the job, which offers a monthly salary of Rs 4 lakh. The five candidates have different motives for securing the job, and their backstories unfold over the nine-episode series.

‘Journey’ is a show about these five different characters who go through difficulties in their respective lives. Nitesh is ousted from his home for a mistake he committed. Latha realises her potential when a man teaches her agriculture, while Pranav is a social activist, who takes a leap into politics. Meanwhile, Ameer is fighting a case in which he has been falsely accused. Raghav, who is employed in the US, is compelled to return to India due to sudden policy changes.

The series aims to explore the themes of ambition, perseverance, struggle, emotion and oppression. While the intention of ‘Journey’ remains pure, director Cheran does a half-baked job of exploring the topics in detail. Instead, the show is crammed with too many stale ideas, which makes it a tedious watch. The episode where Latha learns agriculture reminds us of the umpteen films where we are forced to learn about agriculture.

Raghav’s life in the US and the issues he faces due to visa policy changes strike a chord. However, this portion is shoddily made and barely scratches the surface. Though it portrays the struggles of immigrants, it hardly offers a nuanced take. The same goes for Nitesh and Pranav’s portions. Ameer’s life touches on some important topics, but it gets buried in the larger scheme of things.

However, the most absurd sequence is when actor Jayaprakash becomes a low-budget Sherlock Holmes to spy on the five interview candidates on the pretext of analysing their true capabilities.

Two couples who are on their journey travelling to different destinations start to reminiscence their past and the experiences of life they have had. Destiny has something in store for all of them thus bringing them together and changing their lives forever. What is that mystery that unites them? Tune in to watch, on Jio Cinema!

Allari Naresh’s Aadhar Okkati Adakku was released in cinemas on May 3, 2024, but failed to entertain the majority of audiences. Directed by debutant Malli Ankam, the movie has now made its digital debut.

Amazon Prime Video, without any prior announcement, premiered the film on its platform. The reception from the OTT audience is yet to be seen.

Faria Abdullah plays the female lead in this comedy drama, with Vennela Kishore, Kalpalatha, Anish Kuruvilla, Harsha Chemudu, and Ariyana Glory in prominent roles.

Produced by Rajiv Chilaka of Chilaka Productions, the movie features Gopi Sundar as the music director. Stay tuned for more OTT updates.

హీరో అంటే ఇదివ‌ర‌కు మంచోడిగా చూపించేవారు ద‌ర్శ‌కులు. ఎన్ని క‌ష్టాలు ఎదురైన మంచికే క‌ట్టుబ‌డిన హీరో చివ‌ర‌కు విజ‌యం సాధించిన‌ట్లుగా చూపించేవారు. ఇప్పుడా ట్రెండ్ మారింది.

హీరోల‌ను నెగెటివ్ షేడ్స్ క్యారెక్ట‌ర్‌లో చూపించ‌డం ఓ ట్రెండ్‌గా మారిపోయింది. నెగెటివ్ షేడ్స్‌తో కూడిన క‌థ‌ల్లో ఎలాంటి ప‌రిమితులు లేకుండా హీరో క్యారెక్ట‌ర్‌ను లార్జ‌ర్ దేన్ లైఫ్‌గా చూపించే అవ‌కాశం ఉంటుంది. హీరోయిజాన్ని ప‌తాక స్థాయిలో పండించొచ్చు. అందుకే ఈ నెగెటివ్ షేడ్స్ క‌థ‌ల ప‌ట్ల స్టార్ హీరోల నుంచి మిడ్ రేంజ్ హీరోల వ‌ర‌కు ప్ర‌తి ఒక్క‌రూ ఆస‌క్తిని చూపుతోన్నారు.

విశ్వ‌క్‌సేన్ ఇమేజ్‌...

గ్యాంగ్స్ ఆఫ్ గోదావ‌రి అలాంటి మూవీనే. క‌థ, క‌థ‌నాల కంటే విశ్వ‌క్‌సేన్ ఇమేజ్‌, అత‌డి క్యారెక్ట‌రైజేష‌న్‌ను న‌మ్మి ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు కృష్ణ చైత‌న్య గ్యాంగ్స్ ఆఫ్ గోదావ‌రి మూవీని తెర‌కెక్కించాడు. ఇదొక‌ పొలిటిక‌ల్ రివేంజ్ యాక్ష‌న్ డ్రామా మూవీ. ఈ స్టోరీకి లంక గ్రామాల నేప‌థ్యం బాగా సెట్ట‌య్యింది. అక్క‌డి రాజ‌కీయాలు, నేప‌థ్యాన్ని రా అండ్ ర‌స్టిక్‌గా స్క్రీన్‌పై చూపించ‌డంలో ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు స‌క్సెస్ అయ్యాడు.

మాసీ క్యారెక్ట‌ర్‌...

ఓ సాధార‌ణ దొంగ నీతి న్యాయాల‌తో ప‌నిలేకుండా అడ్డ‌దారుల్లో ఎలా ఎదిగాడు? రాజ‌కీయాల‌ను శాసించే స్థాయికి ఏ విధంగా చేరుకున్నాడు? అత‌డి ఎదుగుద‌ల‌, వ్య‌క్తి జీవితంలోని మ‌లుపుల చుట్టూ ఈ క‌థ‌ను అల్లుకున్నారు ద‌ర్శ‌కుడు.

మాస్ ఆటిట్యూడ్‌, ఎన‌ర్జీ తో కూడిన యాక్టింగ్‌తో ఎంత సింపుల్ క్యారెక్ట‌ర్‌నైనా హై ఇంటెన్స్‌గా స్క్రీన్‌పై ప్ర‌జెంట్ చేయ‌గ‌ల‌డు విశ్వ‌క్‌సేన్‌. ర‌త్నాక‌ర్ పాత్ర‌లో విశ్వ‌క్‌సేన్ అద‌ర‌గొట్టాడు. గ‌త సినిమాల‌కు పూర్తి భిన్నంగా మాసీగా క‌నిపించాడు. అయితే అత‌డికి ఇమేజ్‌కు మించిన క్యారెక్ట‌ర్ కావ‌డంతో వ‌ర్క‌వుట్ కానీ ఫీలింగ్ క‌లిగిస్తుంది.

రివేంజ్ డ్రామా...

విశ్వ‌క్ సేన్ చేసే అల్ల‌రి ప‌నులు, ఎమ్మెల్యే ద‌గ్గ‌ర అనుచ‌రుడిగా..బుజ్జి..ర‌త్న‌మాల‌తో అత‌డి అనుబంధంతో ఫ‌స్ట్ హాఫ్ స‌ర‌దాగా సాగిపోతుంది. సెకండాఫ్‌ను కంప్లీట్ రివేంజ్ మోడ్‌లో సీరియ‌స్‌గా న‌డిపించాడు డైరెక్ట‌ర్‌.

అడ్డ‌దారుల్లో ఎమ్మెల్యే అయిన ర‌త్న జీవితంలో ఎలా కింద‌ప‌డిపోయాడు? అందుకు దారి తీసిన ప‌రిస్థితుల చుట్టూ సెకండాఫ్ న‌డుస్తుంది. అయితే డ్రామాలో ఎమోష‌న్స్ స‌రిగా వ‌ర్క‌వుట్ కాలేదు. క‌థ రొటీన్ కావ‌డం కూడా సెకండాఫ్‌కు మైన‌స్‌గా మారింది. యాక్ష‌న్ ఎపిసోడ్స్, వాటి ప్లేస్‌మెంట్స్ బాగా కుదిరాయి.

ర‌త్న పాత్ర‌లో...

లంక‌ల ర‌త్న పాత్ర‌లో విశ్వ‌క్‌సేన్ జీవించాడు. అత‌డిని త‌ప్ప మ‌రొక‌రిని ఊహించుకోలేనంత‌గా క్యారెక్ట‌ర్‌ను ఓన్ చేసుకున్నాడు. బుజ్జి అనే ప‌ల్లెటూరి అమ్మాయి పాత్ర‌లో నేహా శెట్టి యాక్టింగ్ బాగుంది. ఆమె క్యారెక్ట‌ర్‌లోని వేరియేష‌న్స్ మెప్పిస్తాయి. ర‌

త్న‌మాల‌గా అంజ‌లి పాత్ర ఈ సినిమాకు హైలైట్‌గా నిలిచింది. వేశ్య‌గా మాస్ రోల్‌లో ఆమె బాడీలాంగ్వేజ్‌, డైలాగ్ డెలివ‌రీ డిఫ‌రెంట్‌గా ఉన్నాయి. గోప‌రాజు ర‌మ‌ణ‌, నాజ‌ర్‌, గ‌గ‌న్ విహారి త‌మ ప‌రిధుల మేర మెప్పించారు. హైప‌ర్ ఆది, ప‌మ్మి సాయి కామెడీ కొన్ని చోట్ట వ‌ర్క‌వుట్ అయ్యింది. ఈ సినిమాకు సెకండ్ హీరోగా మ్యూజిక్ డైరెక్ట‌ర్ యువ‌న్ శంక‌ర్ రాజా నిలిచాడు. త‌న బీజీఎమ్‌తో సినిమాను నెక్స్ట్ లెవెల్‌కు తీసుకెళ్లాడు.

క‌థ పాత‌దే కానీ...

గ్యాంగ్స్ ఆఫ్ గోదావ‌రి రొటీన్ మాస్ యాక్ష‌న్ మూవీ. క‌థ పాత‌దే అయినా నేప‌థ్యం మాత్రం కొత్త‌గా ఉంది. విశ్వ‌క్‌సేన్ యాక్టింగ్‌, బీజీఎమ్‌, విజువ‌ల్స్ కోసం ఈ మూవీ ఓ సారి చూడొచ్చు.

Ming Wang, the real-life physician whose biography is the basis for this fictional feature, is a Nashville-based ophthalmologist whose degree in laser physics has presumably been a boon in his work restoring sight to visually impaired patients, many of whom are children.

As is the custom with inspirational medical movies, however, the new film “Sight,” directed by Andrew Hyatt, leans hard into uplift — it provides only the narrative-necessary minimum of the science. Wang’s achievement in developing innovative technology is central to one of the stories here, yes. But the dominating narrative is one of personal growth.

Weaving several decades’ worth of flashbacks into its action, otherwise set in 2006, the movie shows Wang’s traumatic childhood in Hangzhou, China, where he and his friend Lili are terrorized by the Cultural Revolution’s Red Guard. He wants to be a doctor like his father, who tells him his best “chance” in life is to “become a musician.” You don’t hear that too often.

Brilliant at school, Wang is able to make his way to M.I.T., but even in the elite educational environments he passes through, he’s discouraged from pursuing his dreams of becoming a physician. These trials leave Wang with a defensive ego and a tendency to shut out others emotionally. He’s forced to deal with failure and to learn to trust.

All of this is laid out in competent commonplace fashion, with the principal actors Terry Chen, Greg Kinnear and the always welcome Fionnula Flanagan displaying the expected professionalism.

Wang has written a memoir in which he discusses his Christian faith in some detail. The film proper does not. But the faith-friendly distributor, Angel Films, has appended to the feature a “Pay It Forward” coda (similar to that on their 2023 release “Sound of Freedom”) in which the real Wang testifies to his spirituality.

Sight Rated PG-13 for thematic material, mild violence. Running time: 1 hour 40 minutes. In theaters.
