San Isidro history

San Isidro was once a part of the municipality of Antequera. Macapagao was the place’s name which was said to be because of a person residing there who had a very harsh voice. People living there refer it as “macapagao”. After some time, the place was called Agbunan. The names is originated from a plant called “bugang” that bears white flowers that spreads or scatters into the air when the wind blows.

Agbunan became one of the barrios of Catigbian when the latter was made into a town during the Spanish regime.

Catigbian was destroyed during the Philippine-American war. Its barrios were ceded to the neighboring municipalities and that was when Agbunan was back to Antequera. However, when Catigbian was restored, Agbunan once again became a part of Catigbian. Agbunan or San Isidro was one of the big barangays of Catigbian.

The place was formally made into a separate town on June 21, 1969 when President Ferdinand Marcos signed into Law RA 5662 creating San Isidro as one of the towns of the province of Bohol. The dream of making their barrio into a town was inspired by its rapid growth and development.

San Isidro geography

San Isidro boasts a diverse and captivating geography. The municipality is blessed with beautiful beaches, rolling hills, and lush forests. It is surrounded by towering mountains, offering breathtaking views and opportunities for hiking and trekking adventures. Notable geographical features include the highest peaks in Bohol, which provide panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscapes. The climate in San Isidro is generally tropical, with warm and humid weather throughout the year. The best time to visit is during the dry season from November to April when the weather is pleasant and ideal for outdoor activities.

San Isidro is home to a warm and welcoming community. The municipality has a population of approximately 9,909 people, comprising various ethnicities and cultures. The locals primarily speak the Cebuano language, but Tagalog and English are also widely understood. The town takes pride in its rich cultural heritage, which is reflected in its customs, traditions, and festivals. The annual fiesta of San Isidro, the patron saint of farmers, is celebrated on May 15th with vibrant processions, street parades, traditional dances, and culinary delights. Three rivers are found in the municipality. Sampilangon River is in the eastern part which is also the largest among the three. Ugay River is in the central part. It connects Sampilangon River in barangay Caimbang. The last river is the Magdahunog River in the western part. It connects Tabuan River in Antequera.

Leaders who are devoted Roman Catholics decided to build a chapel dedicated to Saint Isidore the farmer, their chosen Patron Saint, which is considered as the patron saint for farmers.

One of its achievements is the institution of the First Agbunan Festival wherein the culture and traditions of the San Isidrohanons are displayed. The Festival is a great means for the promotion of tourism, of ecological and agricultural pursuits, the enhancement of folk beliefs and of the natural environment.

The municipality of San Isidro is situated on the interior part of Bohol, lying north of the municipality of Antequera, south of the municipality of Tubigon, east of the municipality of Calape, and west of the municipality of Catigbian. The town is 32 kilometers away from the province’s lone city and its capital, Tagbilaran City.

It can be reached by bus or jeepney and even vans-for-hire and taxis that are going northbound from Tagbilaran. It takes approximately 1 hour to reach the town, passing through scenic rice fields, banana and coconut groves along the towns before it.

From the airport, you can hire a taxi or arrange for a private transfer to reach San Isidro.

From Tagbilaran, you can hire a taxi or take a local bus or van to San Isidro.

Car and motorcycle rentals are also available for those who prefer to explore at their own pace.

Bohol is like a compressed version of the entire Philippines – powdery white sand beaches, colorful marine life, azure lagoons, pristine waterfalls, mystical caves, sprawling rice terraces and gentle farmlands, carefully-preserved historical churches and age-old Spanish-era houses. That’s why it is no surprise why Bohol seduces thousands of tourists yearly. But what I like about this province is, despite its growing luxury trappings and the crowd it brings, most parts of the island remain tranquil and bucolic, a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle.

1.BOHOL LAND TOUR

If you’re a first-time tourist in Bohol, a practical way to see what the province has to offer is by joining a group tour.  This is quite “touristy” though, but I didn’t mind doing it, it’s a good way to see Bohol’s top tourist spots without emptying my wallet. There’s a bunch of local tour operators offering Bohol Land Tours , and they’re pretty affordable. Basically, you will be joining other tourists in a van and explore the island following a fixed itinerary that usually includes the following top attractions in Bohol.

I’ll write a more detailed travel guide on Bohol Land Tour ; this is just a summary. But here are 4 ways you can do the Bohol Land Tour:

1.1. BOHOL LAND TOUR BY TOUR PACKAGE

Now for Bohol Land Tour, you can book in advance through the link below to save you time and avoid the hassle of looking for a reliable tour operator once you’re in Bohol. You can join a group tour or book a private tour.

BOHOL LAND TOUR: RESERVE HERE

• Tour Duration:  9 hours whole day tour (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
• Tour Inclusion: Driver, Shared AC transportation/Van
• Excluded: Entrance Fees + Meals + Drinks + Personal expenses. See below.

IMPORTANT: Most cheap Bohol Land tours don’t include the entrance fees + the lunch buffet fee at the Loboc River Cruise Buffet Lunch. So, double check that with your travel agency before booking. Now if you’re booking through the link above, the *Bohol Land Tour mentioned the aforementioned fees are NOT included .  So, on top of the Bohol Land Tour fee, prepare the following amount per person:

• Regular ₱850 ($15.35) Senior ₱600 ($10.82) – Loboc River Cruise Lunch Buffet
• ₱150 ($2.71) – Tarsier Conservation Entrance Fee

1.2. BOHOL LAND TOUR BY PRIVATE CAR

  If you have enough budget, and you don’t want to join other tourists. You can book a private tour for your group or rent a car to explore the island. I highly recommend this of you are a group of 3-4 persons. You can book rent a car through the link below.

1.3. bohol land tour by motorcycle/scooter.

For those with thirst for adventure a motorbike trip in Bohol countryside is unforgettable. If you are a solo traveler and you know how to drive and you have a driver’s license, you can rent a motorcycle/scooter to explore Bohol, you can follow the Bohol tourist spots listed on this blog. Motorcycle/scooter rental in Bohol typically starts at ₱300 ($5.42) to ₱500 ($9/03) per day, gas not included, good for 1-2 persons. Check out my sample Bohol itinerary below.

1.4. DIY BOHOL LAND TOUR (By Public Transport)

If you are the adventurous type and you are on a budget, doing a DIY Bohol Land Tour is possible. I included how to get to some of the Bohol tourist spots here by public transport, see Access . You would have to take a combination of  local bus, jeepney, and tricycle.  I usually DIY whenever I solo backpack, but I opted to join a group tour because doing a DIY Bohol tour is quite a hassle since the public transportation in Bohol is pretty unreliable, this will take up more time. Quite possibly, you won’t be able to cover all the top attractions listed above in a day.

Also, tricycle is pretty expensive in Bohol, even for a short distance ride (5-10 minutes), you will possibly be charged ₱100 ($1.81) to ₱200 ($3.61). It’s like you are renting the entire tricycle. That’s the sad thing about Bohol. I asked some resort workers if they’re charged the same as they are locals, they said yes, unfortunately. I hope the local government can do something about this, perhaps imposed a fare tariff. I’ve read a lot of complaints from other tourists about this.

BOHOL LAND TOUR  – TOP BOHOL TOURIST SPOTS

Chocolate hills.

The picturesque Chocolate Hills is the poster boy of Bohol province attracting thousands of tourists every year. Reportedly, around 1,260 hills to 1,776 hills that are actually conical-shaped limestone mounds clad in grass peppered across a sprawling area. According to the plaque on the viewing deck, “ They were formed by the uplift of coral deposits and the action of rain water and erosion ages ago.”

There are 2 locations where you can view the Chocolate Hills.

• Chocolate Hills Complex in Carmen – This popular Bohol tourist spot is a government owned viewing deck located in Carmen. The photos above were taken in Carmen. If you are joining a Bohol Countryside group tour or private land tour, this is the place that is usually included in the tour itinerary.
•   Entrance Fee: ₱100 ($1.81) locals, ₱150 ($2.71) foreigner
• Location: Carmen, Bohol
• Access: If you want to do a DIY Chocolate tour, it is possible, but can take up a lot of time because local transportation in Bohol is unreliable. Anyway, here’s how to do it: make your way to Dao Bus Terminal in Tagbilaran. If you are staying in Alona Beach, you can ride a tricycle to take you there. Tricycle fare is about ₱200 ($2.61) depending or ride a habal-habal (motorcycle) for about ₱50 ($0.90). Negotiate and agree on the price before boarding because tricycles in Bohol are pretty expensive.  Once you reach Dao Bus Terminal, take a bus to Carmen. Travel time is roughly 1.5 hours and bus fare for non-ac bus is ₱85 ($1.53). Get off at the Chocolate Hills Adventure Park. Register and pay the fees. Ride the free shuttle to the viewing deck.

• Sagbayan Peak – This lesser-known Chocolate Hills viewing deck is located inside a mountain resort in Sagbayan, Bohol.
•   Entrance Fee: ₱80 ($1.44)
• Access: From Tagbilaran, there are vans for hire that can take you to Sagbayan Peak . Otherwise, if you hire a car in Bohol, you can include this in your itinerary.

LOBOC RIVER CRUISE

For first timers, one of the top things to do in Bohol is the Bohol River Cruise, where you’ll get to ride on a large boat and cruise along emerald green river of Loboc while feasting on sumptuous local dishes. And the most exciting part of the Bohol river cruise tour is the cultural show of the local dance troupe where tourists can join and dance Tinikling , a Filipino dance. There are also singers onboard serenading you while dining. Tipping is recommended.

If you book the Bohol Land Tour or Countryside Tour , this is usually included in the tour package. However, the buffet lunch fee is typically EXCLUDED, so you have to pay this separately. Once you arrive at the Loboc River Resort, you have to line up and pay for the buffet meal. You will get a ticket where your table number is written. Make sure you keep it and show it to the staff upon boarding the floating restaurant boat.

Nearby the Loboc River is another charming old church called Loboc Parish Church . If you still have time during your tour, drop by for a quick exploration and photo op.

• Access : If you want to DIY the Loboc River Cruise, here’s how: Make your way to Dao Bus Terminal in Tagbilaran, Bohol. From there, take a bus to Loboc and get off at the Loboc River Cruise complex near the Loboc Parish Church. Bus fare is roughly ₱30 ($0.54) and travel time is about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Tarsier conservation sanctuary  .

The Philippine tarsier ( Carlito syrichta ) is an endemic tarsier, one of the smallest primates in the world, that can be found in Bohol.  The tarsier is another famous Bohol tourist attractions. There are 3 tarsier sanctuary that you can visit in Bohol, however, it is highly recommended to visit the Philippines Tarsier Conservation Sanctuary in Corella instead, because this is a non-profit organization that protects tarsiers in their natural environment. Meaning, they are not put in cages, they are free to stay or leave the sanctuary. The other tarsier conservation centers in Bohol allegedly put the tarsiers in cages, and let them out during the day for tourists.

BILAR MAN-MADE FOREST 

Another popular tourist spot in Bohol that is part of the countryside tour is the Bilar Man-made forest. This area was actually part of the reforestation project some 50 years ago were red and white mahogany trees are planted along the roads stretching from Loboc to Bilar. There’s no entrance fee to take a photo or stop here but be careful. Many vehicles and local buses pass through this road and they’re pretty fast.

BACLAYON CHURCH AND MUSEUM

Baclayon Church (Immaculate Concepcion of the Virgin Mary Parish) in Baclayon, Bohol is another top tourist attraction in Bohol. It was declared as a National Cultural Treasure and National Historic Landmark. The current church was built out of coral stones in 1727 by the Jesuits. But in October 2013, a strong earthquake destroyed the façade of Baclayon Church. The church was reopened 5 years later after the restoration work.

BLOOD COMPACT SHRINE (SANDUGO)

The Legazpi-Sikatuna Blood Compact (Sandugo) is known as the first treaty of friendship between Miguel Lopez de Jaena, a Spanish Intruder, and the chieftain of Bohol – Datu Sikatuna that took place in Bohol on March 1565. Today, a Blood Compact Shrine stands on the location where the Sandugo  happened and is one of top visited Bohol tourist spots.

SEVILLA TWIN HANGING BRIDGE

The newly constructed Sevilla Twin Hanging Bridge has just reopened July this year and is one of the rising Bohol tourist spots. The 40-meter long and 25 meters high hanging bridge is made of woven bamboo slats and offers a scenic view of the emerald green Sipatan River. On the other side of the bridge, local sell souvenirs and refreshments.

Sikatuna mirror of the world.

This latest tourist attraction in Bohol, also known as Bohollywood which was opened in phases back in 2018 and expected to be completed by 2024. Sikatuna Mirror of the World and Botanical Garden is a sprawling park speckled with scaled-down version of world-famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Statue of Liberty in New York, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil,  Golden Gate Bridge of California, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Merlion of Singapore, among others. You can also dine at their café inside the Acropolis. The park is also home to a Botanical Garden with orchids and palm trees.

HINAGDANAN CAVE

Another Bohol Tourist spot that is not included in the usual tour package. This is a pretty popular cave in Dauis, Bohol. It is lighted inside by the holes in its ceiling, revealing the stalactites and stalagmites hugging the turquoise lagoon. You can go for a swim here for an extra fee. You can also book the Panglao Island Tour, which includes a trip to Hinagdanan Cave. See link below.

The park is packed with adventures like the Bike Zipline (The Rush) where you can bike midair, about 150-feet above land and soak in the scenic view of Chocolate Hills. Other activities here include the surf zipline, tree top rope challenge, Tarzan swing, Spiderman wall challenge, tree top rope challenge, and more.

3. BOHOL ISLAND HOPPING

Peppered with powdery white sand beaches lapped by turquoise sea and flanked by gorgeous marine reserves, the island of Bohol is a perfect destination for swimming, island hopping, snorkeling, and diving.  So, don’t forget to pack your swimwear and snorkeling gear. One of the must-try activities when traveling to Bohol is Panglao Island Hopping .

The Bohol island hopping tour typically starts at Alona Beach , where outrigger boats (Maximum 15 passengers) wait for tourists around 6:30 AM. Pick up for tours usually start at 5:30 AM – 6:00 AM. The reason why the tour starts pretty early is because of the higher chance of spotting dolphins swimming and playing in the sea.

3.1. DOLPHIN WATCHING

About 20 minutes away from Alona Beach, the island hopping boat will take you near the spot where dolphins swim and play. Typically boats won’t go very near the dolphins to avoid disturbing them.

3.2. BALICASAG MARINE ISLAND SANCTUARY

Next stop is Balicasag Island, the snorkeling spot known for turtles. You can swim with the turtles here and colorful fishes. Tourists can buy food/meals for lunch in Balicasag Island and take it to the next stop. At Balicasag Island, you can snorkel on your own or get a guide with a small boat to take you to the snorkeling sites.

If you opt to get a guide, you will be transferred to a small boat (maximum passenger 3) with 1 guide to take you to the snorkeling area. You need to register and pay for the snorkeling gear rental. Better if you bring your own snorkeling gear to save you a few bucks. There are 2 snorkeling areas, and you can snorkel for 30 minutes maximum at each spot. So, you are given approximately 1 hour for snorkeling in Balicasag Island.

3.3. VIRGIN ISLAND SANDBAR

The last stop for Island Hopping in Bohol is Virgin Island, a sandbar.

4. BEACH HOPPING

One of the reasons why Bohol is a tourist magnet because it exudes with dramatic coastlines and white sand beaches. This bountiful island is peppered with palm-fringed white sand beaches. If you have another day to spend in Bohol, you can relax and take a dip in its azure water.

• ALONA BEACH: The most popular and most photographed Bohol beach, where most island hopping in Panglao originate. Hugged by powdery sand and turquoise water, its coast is peppered with resorts that never stopped expanding. Downside is, this can be overly crowded during the dry season and dotted with island hopping boats. During the rainy season, it’s not that picturesque and the waves make it annoying to swim. Still, it remains as one of the top Bohol tourist spots.
• DUMALUAN BEACH: Another palm-fringed white sand beach in Bohol that is peppered with resorts along its coastline is Dumaluan Beach . Other tourists prefer this beach than Alona Beach because it has lesser crowd. There’s also a popular free diving site nearby – the Bohol Plane Wreck, just roughly 10 minutes away from South Palms Resort .
• Access: If coming from Alona Beach area, take a tricycle to Dumaluan Beach. Fare is roughly ₱150 ($2.71), good for 2-3 persons. If you will go through the resort, there is an entrance fee of at least ₱100 ($1.80) for beach access depending on the resort. For South Palms Resort, you can avail of the resort day use. 6. BOHOL FREE DIVING

Plunge into the turquoise waters of Bohol and discover the marine sanctuary and diving sites dotting the island. Another top things to do in Bohol is free diving. Here’s some of the famous free diving sites in Bohol now:

6.1 NAPALING CRACK

Another rising free diving site in Bohol now is Napaling Crack/Napaling Point (Cliff Dive) best known for its “Sardine Run” experience that can be seen at shallow depths. But what makes Napaling Crack an Instagram favorite is its reef wall with crack clad by colorful soft coral and sponges.  This free diving site is situated at Tangnan, Panglao Island. This is a pretty popular spot now so expect many tourists (especially on weekends and holidays) lining up to dive down the Napaling Crack.

Napaling Point Diving Tour: RESERVE HERE

• Access: DIY Napaling Crack – Rent a tricycle or motorbike or car to take you to one of the 3 resorts that has access to Napaling Crack/Napaling Point. Travel time is about 15 minutes only. Tricycle fare is roughly ₱300 ($5.41) to ₱400 ($7.11) one-way.  You’ll pay around the same amount if you rent a motorbike/scooter for the entire day (gas not included). Prepare around ₱400 ($7.21) to free dive in Napaling Crack/Napaling Point.
• There are 3 resort access points: Molave Cove Resort, Almira Diving Resort, and Panglao Kalikasan Dive Resort. These resorts have stairs leading to the snorkeling area at the foot of the cliff.
• Alternatively, you can book free diving tours at Napaling Point with local tour operators, rates usually start at ₱1,850 ($33.37).
• Resort Entrance Fee: ₱100 ($1.80)
• Napaling Crack: ₱200 ($3.61)
• Environmental Fee: ₱100 ($1.80)
• Bring a tour guide with you when free diving.

6.2.BOHOL PLANE WRECK

A beginner-friendly free diving site is Bohol Plane Wreck.  It’s one of the popular Bohol tourist spots to date. If you’ve booked a free diving tour. This is usually part of the Balicasag Island dive itinerary for free divers. The Bohol Plane Wreck is situated near South Palm Resort, about 10-minutes away. Oftentimes, visibility is said to be poor, so manage your expectations. Try to do this early in the morning.

*Most resorts in the area though will charge entrance fee for access to the resort leading to the beach.

 7. BOHOL DIVING

Bohol Marine Triangle, which includes Balicasag, Pamilican, and Panglao, is reportedly one of the richest marine biodiversity in the world boasting of sea turtles, manta rays, whale sharks, and kaleidoscopic marine life. 8. BOHOL WHALE SHARK WATCHING

One of the most unforgettable travel experiences is an encounter with the gentle giants – the whale sharks. And unknown to many tourists, you can actually experience that in Taug, Lila, Bohol. Whale watching is now one of the top Bohol tourist spots.  It is said that the best time for whale shark watching in the Philippines is around December to May because this is the season when these gentle giants are migrating naturally. So, you’ll get a higher chance of seeing them.

9. WATERFALLS HOPPING

Bohol is oozing with pristine waterfalls that is devoid of tourists, since they’re not typically included in the Bohol Countryside tours or on the list of best Bohol tourist spots.  Here are some of the waterfalls that can be reached from Tagbilaran or Panglao for roughly 30 minutes to 1 hour. They’re not usually on the list of the top Bohol tourist spots, but if you’re into waterfalls and have extra time, it’s worth checking out.

9.1. MAG-ASO FALLS

Though this waterfall is surrounded by a dense jungle, it’s not that high, only about 8-meter tall. It’s a popular swimming spot for the locals and the natural pool that served as a swimming area has been developed. Take caution when walking down the stairs because it is slippery. If you want to swim here, wear life vest provided by the resort for safety reasons. There are toilets and changing rooms but they’re not that well-maintained.

• Open Hours: Sunday to Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Closed on Saturday
• Entrance Fee: ₱50 ($0.90)
• Access: By motorbike/scooter or car rental it’s approximately 30 minutes’ drive from Tagbilaran or about 1 hour from the main tourist strip of Panglao. Follow Google Maps.

9.2. CAMUGAO FALLS

Another enchanting waterfall in Bohol is Camugao Falls, a tall waterfall surrounded by dense jungle.  It’s unheard of when you talk about the best Bohol tourist spots.  It takes about 10-15 minutes’ walk to reach the cliff from the entrance, but be extra careful as the stairs down to the base of the waterfall can get slippery. Unlike the Mag-aso Falls, Camugao Falls is quite tall and surrounded by a canyon. You can cliff dive here but make sure the landing is clear of rocks and debris for your safety.

10. FIREFLY WATCHING

Cruise along the Abatan River at night and witness the dramatic scene of fireflies.

11. hilltop 360 view park.

This is one of my favorite Bohol tourist spots and viewing area for Chocolate Hills and the mountains of Bohol. It’s actually a park with a cringe design, to be honest, but the scenic view here is unparalleled. We just stumbled upon this place during our drive in Bohol, searching for the government-owned viewing deck, and when we entered and saw the view of its surroundings, it was jaw-dropping.

We went to Hilltop 360 View Park pre-pandemic. So, I’m not sure if it’s still open because I can’t find any updated information about it. Their FB page is inactive. I tried texting their number but no response. I checked social media posts and latest photos I could find was back in 2021. So, if you happen to know if this place is already closed, please leave a comment below or private message me on Instagram. Thank you!

12. ANDA BOHOL BEACHES

About 3 hours’ drive from Tagbilaran and Panglao is Anda, Bohol.  This bucolic town is peppered with palm-fringed white sand beaches devoid of luxury trappings, that makes Anda one of the rising Bohol tourist spots.  It’s a nice place to just relax on the beach and enjoy subtle pleasures like the changing color of the sky and clouds at sunset. Here’s 2 of my favorite beaches in Anda, entrance is free for both beaches.

13. anda cave pools.

Because Anda, Bohol is believed to be made mostly of limestones, the geological activities overtime, along with heavy rains and weather, eventually formed the cave pools. You’ll be surprised that the town is actually peppered with a couple of cave pools that is now included on the list of best Bohol tourist spots. But since our time was limited, we only visited Cabagnow Cave Pool. For more details, check out my separate travel guide on Cabagnow Cave Pool.

14. CADAPDAPAN RICE TERRACES

If you fancy the outdoors and taking off-the-beaten path, the sleepy town of Candijay will surprise you with natural and man-made attractions. Here, you’ll find the picturesque Cadapdapan Rice Terraces, now a popular Bohol tourist spot.

15.CAN-UMANTAD FALLS

• Open Hours: 7:00 AM -5:00 PM
• Tour Guide: Not required but available, in case you are alone and want someone to help you with your photos or videos. Or if you just want to help the local community, you can hire a local guide.

16.CANAWA COLD SPRING 

Canawa Spring is a turquoise spring in Candijay, Bohol. Not your typical Bohol tourist spot.  You can do this as a side trip when you visit Cadapdapan Rice Terraces and Can-umantad Falls. It’s about 15 minutes away by motorbike. The entrance is not particularly enticing as you will see a man-made swimming area.  But if you go further, you’ll see the undeveloped part under the tree with a clear turquoise water, perfect for a quick dip.

17. ASIN SA TIBUOK

  A Filipino artisanal salt made in Bohol with a sharp, smoky taste. This is done by soaking coconut husks in seawater for several months and burning them into a pile. It is usually done from December to May. You can visit the Asin sa Tibuok workshop in Alburquerque, Bohol. The Manongas family revived this ancient sal-making tradition in 2010 after it has disappeared in the 80’s. To order Asin sa Tibuok contact Veronica Salupan at +63907 1680 961.

18. DAUIS GOLD MAKERS

Though it’s not usually included on the list of top Bohol tourist spots, there’s more to see in Dauis aside from Hinagdanan Cave.  Did you know that Dauis has gold jewelry makers? Yes. There’s an ancient tradition here where the women create hand-crafted gold jewelry using the traditional stamping technique.

Best time for me to visit Bohol is around January to March before the peak season. The weather is quite okay during these months, not too hot, and lesser crowd compared if you travel during April to May, which is the summer season in the Philippines.

There are several ways to get to Bohol.

  Manila to Bohol – From Manila, there are several airlines flying to Bohol such as Cebu Pacific, Airasia, and Philippine Airlines.

Cebu City to Bohol – From Cebu City, there are fastcraft to Bohol (2 hours) and ferry (4 hours). You can check the Cebu-Bohol-Cebu fastcraft and ferry schedule through the link below.

  Siquijor to Bohol – From Siquijor, you can get to Bohol by ferry. There are 2-3 departures per day. Travel time is roughly 2 hours.

Camiguin – From Camiguin, there’s a ferry to Bohol with 1-2 departures per day. Transit time is approximately 4 hours.

If you’re coming from Bohol International Airport and you need to get to your resort in Alona Beach or Panglao.  Get outside the airport gate and hail a tricycle to your resort. There are usually tricycles waiting for passengers outside. Fare is around ₱200 ($3.61), good for 3-4 pax. Travel time is roughly 10 minutes to Alona Beach or Brgy. Tawala. If you are alone or a party of 2 only, if  want to save you can talk to other passengers and share the cost.

Getting around bohol.

  I already discussed this above. There are 5 ways you can get around Bohol.

• By bus and jeepney – Buses and jeepney in Bohol are unreliable. They will eat up your time. But if you want to save money, this is the way to go.
• By tricycle – Tricycle is pretty expensive in Bohol, a short ride will cost you ₱100 ($1.80) to ₱200 ($3.61).
• By car rental – I’d recommend this if you’re a group of 3-4 persons, you can save more than joining a group tour that charges per person.

• By group tour or private tour – If you’re a solo traveler or a party of 2, this is a good option, especially if it’s your first time in Bohol since you’ll be able to visit the top tourist spots in a day.

WHERE TO EAT IN BOHOL

  I don’t usually plan ahead where to eat when I travel. I dine wherever is nearby when I’m hungry or wherever my feet take me. LOL But if you’re a foodie, here are some restaurants that I’ve personally tried. I’m easy to please when it comes to food though, my palate is only picky when it comes to Japanese food.

• Paprika Restaurant – Latest restaurant I tried in Bohol is Paprika Restaurant at Donatela Resort. They have okay food, lots of choices. I especially love their fish ala plancha, salmon pappilotte, and truffle pasta. I like their complimentary breakfast too, especially the egg with hints of bacon. You can dine at al fresco at Paprika Restaurant and enjoy the view of the endless sea.

• Henann Alona Beach Restaurant – For Henann Resort in Alona Beach, they have dinner buffet for ₱898 ($16.20)  every Friday to Sunday, and ₱798 ($14.39) every Monday to Thursday. Unlimited drinks is ₱250 ($451).

• Saffron – This is the restaurant inside Amorita Resort. I tried it years ago.
• Giuseppe Pizzeria and Sicilian Roast

Bohol Island is one of the most popular destinations in the Philippines offering a mecca of awesome adventures such as waterfalls, beaches, cave pools, cliff jumping, island hopping, and of course, the famous Chocolate Hills.

I recommend spending at least one week on the island to explore all of the top tourist spots in Bohol.

In this guide, I’ve included all the best things to do in Bohol plus some handy tips such as how to get to Bohol, the best time to visit, where to stay, how to get around, and the best tour packages.

QUICK ANSWERS – BOHOL TOURIST SPOTS

Let’s start this guide with all the essentials you should know before visiting, from getting to Bohol to the best time to visit and more.

HOW TO GET TO BOHOL?

There are two ways of getting to Bohol, one is by plane and the other by ferry.

There are daily flights to Bohol welcoming both domestic and international travelers. The main airport in Bohol is Panglao International Airport located on Panglao Island.

Cebu to Bohol ferry

The most common route is the ferry from Cebu to Bohol which takes approximately 2.5 hours and the cost is around 880 pesos.

There are daily ferry departures from the Cebu Pier 1 Ferry Terminal and it arrives at Tagbilaran Port in Bohol.

Once you have booked your Cebu to Bohol ferry ticket online, on the day of travel you can head directly to Cebu Pier 1 Ferry Terminal at least 30-minutes before departure and present the online booking number to the staff at the check-in counter so they can issue you a seat number.

There is also an additional 25 pesos terminal fee that must be paid in cash on the day.

Siquijor to Bohol ferry

If you happen to be on Siquijor island and heading over to Bohol from here, there are daily ferry departures from Larena Port in Siquijor to Tagbilaran Port in Bohol.

The ferry from Siquijor to Bohol takes around 1.5 hours and the cost is around 900 pesos plus an additional 20 pesos terminal fee.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT BOHOL?

The best time to visit, weather-wise, is between April and July when temperatures are hot and there is barely any rainfall.

This is also high season so expect to see many tourists during these months.

I recommend visiting on the shoulder months of the high season between November and March which sees a bit of rainfall but usually only lasts for a couple of hours and the rest of the day is sunny.

Try to avoid the monsoon season which is between August and October.

HOW TO GET AROUND BOHOL?

The best way to get around the island and visit all the Bohol tourist spots is to rent a scooter from one of the many scooter rental stores that can be found in Panglao.

Scooter rentals are around 300 – 350 Pesos per day and a full tank of gas costs approximately 200 Pesos.

Alternatively, you can get around on the back of a habal-habal (motorbike taxi) or jump on board a tricycle.

For a 20-minute drive in a tricycle or habal-habal, you can expect to pay around 100 – 150 Pesos. Put your bartering skills to the test!

WHERE TO STAY IN BOHOL?

The main tourist area on Bohol is Panglao which is located on the west side of the island and is most famous for its beach resorts, restaurants and bars, shopping streets, and other fun activities such as cliff jumping, island hopping, and cave pools.

The other main tourist area is Anda which is located on the east side of Bohol Island and is most popular for its pristine white sand beaches, underground cave pools, private beach resorts and it’s close to waterfalls, hiking trails, and cold springs.

I recommend spending 3 nights in Panglao and 3 nights in Anda to explore all four corners of the island.

I spent one week in Bohol to visit as many Bohol tourist attractions as I could and have put together the ultimate list of the 35 Best Tourist Spots In Bohol 2023 including where to find them and what to expect!

As mentioned earlier, I recommend spending 3 days in Panglao and 3 days in Anda.

BOHOL TOURIST SPOTS – FROM PANGLAO

Alona beach.

One of the first things you’re going to want to do when arriving in Bohol is to hit the beach to cool off.

The most famous beach in Panglao is Alona Beach which is arguably one of the best beaches in Bohol.

Alona Beach is located on the southern tip of Panglao, approximately a 45-minute drive from Tagbilaran Port and only 5 minutes drive from Panglao International Airport.

Alona Beach features a long strip of white sandy shores fringed with coconut palms and it’s without a doubt the most happening Bohol tourist spot.

Alona Beach is lined with many seaside restaurants, clubs, and bars that are open 7 days a week till late.

The best spot for swimming at Alona Beach is at the eastern end of the cove away from all the boats and here you can find your own little nook to enjoy a refreshing dip in the ocean.

CHOCOLATE HILLS

Chocolate Hills is a popular Bohol tourist spot that is not to be missed during your stay.

In saying that, the majority of travelers who visit Bohol just come to see the famous Chocolate Hills, so I am sure it’s already on your itinerary!

Chocolate Hills is located in the Carmen region. From Panglao, it’s a 70km drive that takes around 1.5 hours to reach Chocolate Hills, and the entrance fee is 150 pesos.

You can visit Chocolate Hills DIY or alternatively, you can book a Bohol Chocolate Hills Tour which is a full-day tour from Panglao.

This tour includes Chocolate Hills, Bilar Man-Made Forest, Loboc River Cruise, Tarsier Sanctuary, and Baclayon Church.

I visited Chocolate Hills at sunrise and had the entire viewpoint to myself, so if you want to beat the crowds definitely try to get here as early as possible.

At the top of the stairs is a panoramic observation deck boasting extensive views of the 1,268 cone-shaped Chocolate Hills and the surrounding Carmen region. The mysterious landscape is very impressive, to say the least.

The hills are spread over an area of 50 square kilometers and vary in size from 30 meters to 120 meters in height!

These limestone Chocolate Hills are covered with grass and appear to be bright green during the rainy season. However, they turn brown by the end of the dry season, hence their name.

MAN-MADE FOREST BOHOL

The Bilar Man-made Forest is one of the m ost beautiful Bohol tourist attractions and can’t be missed on your list of things to do on the island.

The man-made forest is located between the towns of Bilar and Loboc. From Panglao, it is approximately a 1 hour and 15-minute drive to Bilar Man-made Forest.

The Bilar man-made forest is composed of mahogany trees that stretch for more than 2 kilometers and w hen you enter this parallel tunnel of trees, you’ll feel like you’ve just entered another realm.

You will also notice the temperature drop drastically as you drive through the man-made forest Bohol because the canopy above almost completely cuts out the sun.

There is a windy road that goes all the way through the man-made forest and it acts as an enchanting pathway that cuts through the natural-arched tunnel of large mahogany trees.

The man-made forest attracts many visitors so be prepared to encounter crowds of people and constant traffic on the road that goes through the forest.

TARSIER CONSERVATION AREA

The Tarsier Conservation Area is a sanctuary where you can observe the Tarsiers in Bohol close-up and learn more about their nature.

The Tarsier Conservation Area can be found in Loboc. From Panglao, it’s a 50km drive that takes around 1 hour to reach the Tarsier Sanctuary and the entrance fee is 120 pesos.

You can visit the Tarsier Sanctuary DIY or alternatively, you can book a Bohol Countryside Tour which is a full-day tour from Panglao.

This tour includes a visit to the Tarsier Sanctuary, Chocolate Hills, Bilar Man-Made Forest, Loboc River Cruise, and Baclayon Church.

The 30-minute walk through the Tarsier Conservation Area will take you on a fun little jungle walk around the sanctuary.

You will find some viewing areas where you can spot the little tarsiers sitting in the trees and it’s easy enough to get some photos.

Tarsiers are a rare and endangered creature, as well as an iconic symbol of Bohol.

They are considered one of the smallest primates in the world and you practically won’t see them anywhere else in the country.

Tarsiers are nocturnal animals, so expect to see them sleeping during the day. However, you might get lucky enough and be able to experience them opening their eyes.

BOHOL ISLAND HOPPING TOUR

An island-hopping tour to Balicasag Island and Virgin Island Bohol is an absolute MUST and I can’t recommend this tour enough!

The island hopping tour includes dolphin watching from the boat, snorkeling with sea turtles on Balicasag Island, and a visit to the unique sand bar on Virgin Island Bohol.

I booked my  Bohol Island Hopping Tour  online in advance and this particular trip was very well organized.

Our trip began in the morning when we met our skipper and guide at the meeting point down on Alona Beach.

Balicasag Island boasts glistening white sands and an abundance of marine life just offshore.

You can rent snorkeling equipment from one of the many shacks dotted along Balicasag Beach when you arrive on the boat. A mask and snorkel set costs 150 pesos.

We spent at least two hours snorkeling around the Balicasag reef and swam with about 15 different turtles and countless species of fish. It was a morning that I will never forget!

Virgin Island Bohol is essentially a sandbar in the middle of the ocean which consists of floating seafood kitchens.

You can go up to the boat that had the most appealing seafood and choose whatever you feel like trying such as lobsters, sea urchins, calamari, and fish which they would boil or grill right in front of you.

Apart from that, there isn’t a whole lot to do on Virgin Island Bohol but it’s a  very unique experience I am sure you will enjoy!

LOBOC RIVER CRUISE

The Loboc River Cruise is one of the top-rated tourist spots in Bohol which includes a hearty lunch and a scenic cruise along the mesmerizing Loboc River.

Loboc River is located in the Loboc region which is a 40km drive from Panglao that takes around 1 hour.

I recommend booking a Bohol Countryside Tour which includes the Loboc River Cruise as one of the activities.

It’s a full-day tour from Panglao which also includes a visit to Chocolate Hills, Bilar Man-Made Forest, Tarsier Sanctuary, and Baclayon Church.

INGKUMHAN FALLS

Ingkumhan Falls is one of the  best waterfalls in Bohol and a must-see while you are exploring the island.

Cliff jumps and rope swings are just some of the reasons that make this Bohol tourist attraction one of the top locations to visit!

Ingkumhan Waterfall is located in Dimiao. From Panglao, it’s a 65km drive that takes around 1-hour to reach Ingkumhan Falls and the entrance fee is 30 pesos.

The main set of falls features a flow of water that stretches across a limestone rockface around 10 meters wide and approximately 8 meters tall.

The water fills a huge natural pool at the base of the falls that reminded me of blue Gatorade which I was almost tempted to drink.

There is a rope swing that can be used about halfway up the falls, so you will have to climb up the rock face to reach it.

Surprisingly, the surface of the rock isn’t that slippery and the depth of the pool is around 3 to 4 meters deep so you won’t need to worry about hitting the bottom when you swing.

There is also a 5-meter cliff jump that can be found on the left-hand side of the falls which is a lot of fun!

I visited Ingkumhan Falls on a Sunday and it was very busy with locals and other tourists. Try and time your visit for a weekday if you want to enjoy Ingkumhan Falls without the crowds.

DIMIAO TWIN FALLS

Dimiao Twin Falls, also known as Pahangog Falls, is my favorite Bohol tourist spot! Its Gatorade rock pools and jungle surroundings are irresistibly inviting.

Dimiao Twin Falls is located in Dimiao. From Panglao, it is a 60km drive that takes around 1.5 hours to reach Twin Falls and there is no entrance fee.

Once you arrive at the jump-off point, follow the rocky trail which then leads onto a steep set of concrete stairs with handrails to get down to the falls.

It is an easy to moderate hike that takes no more than 10 minutes to reach the bottom.

Dimiao Falls features a twin set of falls that are around 25 meters tall, flowing down a limestone rock face and filling a large catch basin below.

The turquoise natural-made swimming pool is deep enough in some areas to do some rock jumping but be sure to do a depth check first.

One of the best things to do at Dimiao Twin Falls is to grab a rubber ring for 20 pesos and float around the rock pools. You can even swim up underneath the falls for a free head massage.

In between the two sets of falls are a small sandy islet and a cave that you can also explore.

PANGLAO BEACH

The most famous beach on Panglao Island is without a doubt the touristy Alona Beach. However, if you are looking for an uncrowded and untouched beach I highly recommend visiting Panglao Beach.

Panglao Beach is located on the northern coastline of Panglao. From Alona Beach, it’s a short 20-minute drive to reach Panglao Beach.

The 200 meters long Panglao Beach is a small but dreamlike beach. Fringed with coconut palms and turquoise waters, this is hands down one of the best beaches in Bohol.

The only beachfront hotel is the famous and luxurious  Mithi Resort & Spa which also hosts a small island in front of their shores serving as a wedding ceremony spot.

The little island can be reached by strolling in waist-deep water and you’ll be able to enjoy the views of the coastline along Panglao Beach.

The best time to visit Panglao Beach is during high tide and it’s also a great location to watch the sunset in Panglao.

HINAGDANAN CAVE BOHOL

Hinagdanan Cave is a famed Bohol tourist spot 2023 for its unique beauty.

Hinagdanan Cave is located on the northern coastline of Panglao. From Alona Beach, it’s a short 15-minute drive to reach Hinagdanan Cave and the entrance fee is 50 pesos.

Inside the cavern, you’ll find a large freshwater pool that glows a fluorescent turquoise color and large stalagmite pinnacles hang from the ceiling.

The natural pool is around 3 to 4 meters deep and there is plenty of space for swimming and rock jumping.

Around the edges of the natural pool is quite dry and you can set down your belongings here while you go for a dip.

Though do note that the ground gets quite slippery especially if there are wet kids running around, so please watch your step.

WHITE BEACH PANGLAO

White Beach in Panglao is another beautiful secluded beach with sandy shores and well worth a visit when searching for things to do in Bohol.

White Beach Panglao is a short 10-minute drive from Alona Beach and it is far less crowded if you are wanting some peace and quiet away from all the hype in Alona.

Relax under one of the beach umbrellas, snorkel around the nearby reefs, take a dip in the ocean and simply enjoy the peaceful vibe that White Beach Panglao offers.

MOLAVE CLIFF JUMP

Throwing yourself over the edge of the cliffs at Molave Cliff Diving Resort is one of the most adrenaline-pumping spots in Bohol.

Molave Cliff Diving Resort is located on the northern coastline of Panglao. From Alona Beach, it’s a short 15-minute drive and the entrance fee is 300 pesos (this includes swimming with sardines, and we’ll elaborate here below).

The Molave Cliff Diving Resort features a 5-meter high diving board straight into the clear blue ocean below.

If you are not 100% confident, just ask the lifeguard on duty exactly where to land and watch some other keen jumpers go first.

To exit the water, it’s a 20 to 30-meter swim in shallow waters to a staircase that leads back to the cliff top.

It’s possible to walk across the reef to reach the stairs though it’s rugged in some areas and there is the odd sea urchin.

Best to bring a pair of slip-on waterproof shoes to avoid getting cut up feet.

Once you’ve tired yourself out from all the cliff diving, you can rent a mask and snorkel for 150 pesos and check out the underwater world in Molave Cove.

There are said to be large balls of sardines off the edge of the reef so keep a close eye out for them.

NAPALING SARDINE RUN EXPERIENCE

Another one of the best Bohol tourist spots is Molave Cove Resort, and it’s about swimming with sardines.

Imagine getting up close and personal with these tiny fish as they dance through the ocean right next to you.

This activity is not only a great way to witness the marine life that Bohol has to offer, but it’s also the perfect bonding experience for families and friends.

Needless to say, make sure to pack your GoPro when coming, as this is one of the coolest things you’ll do in Bohol!

MOMO BEACH PANGLAO

Momo Beach is one of my favorite beaches in Bohol and it’s still yet to make an appearance on the radar as another tourist spot.

But for now, I highly recommend stopping at Momo beach for a quick swim while it’s still untouched.

Momo Beach is located on the northern shores of Panglao, a short 15-minute drive from Alona Beach.

I stumbled across Momo Beach on my way to Hinagdanan Cave, so keep an eye out for the signpost on the side of the road.

Momo Beach features a strip of white sandy shores lined with coconut palm trees and a few wooden shacks dotted along the beach.

There was not one other tourist in sight when I visited this little slice of paradise and I enjoyed a refreshing dip in the ocean all to myself.

At one end of Momo beach is a dive resort but other than that there is nothing more than a few small fishing boats along the sand and beautiful turquoise waters await.

MAG ASO FALLS

Mag Aso Falls is one of the island’s natural treasures and a relatively new tourist spot in Bohol 2023.

Gatorade pools and epic cliff jumps are just some of the reasons why you should add Mag Aso Falls to your list of must-see Bohol attractions.

Mag Aso Falls is located in the town of Antequera. To reach Mag Aso Falls it’s approximately 30 minutes drive from Tagbilaran City or a 1-hour drive from Panglao.

Mag Aso Falls entrance fee is 20 pesos and an additional 15 pesos for parking.

There are 197 concrete steps with metal handrails leading down to the falls and it is an easy 5 to 10-minute hike to reach the bottom.

At the halfway mark on the way down to Mag Aso Falls, there is a viewpoint that overlooks the waterfall which makes for a great photo opportunity.

Mag Aso Falls is an 8-meter waterfall that is surrounded by a tropical backdrop of tall trees and wild plants.

Carved out under the waterfall is a natural pool that is particularly inviting to go for a swim due to its milky blue-colored water derived from the limestone rocks in the area.

You can swim over to Mag Aso falls from the outer edges and climb up into the natural jacuzzi pool to experience a head massage under the falls.

There is also a small cave that can be found under the waterfall.

CAMUGAO FALLS

Camugao Falls is one of the  best waterfalls in Bohol.  Although it’s not quite as popular as Can-umantad Falls, it is equally as impressive with its sheer size and irresistible rock pools!

Camugao Falls can be found in Balilihan. From Panglao, it is a 42km drive that takes around 1 hour to reach Camugao Falls.

The entrance fee is 50 pesos and an additional 20 pesos  must be paid for parking also.

It’s no more than a 10 to 15-minute hike to reach the bottom of the cliffs and to where the jungle trail emerges at the base of Camugao Falls.

Camugao Falls is surrounded by a  towering curved cliff face that makes you feel as though you’ve just stepped inside an enormous amphitheater.

To add to the ambiance, lush green plants and vines surround the canyon.

A number of huts and rest areas can be found around the edge of the swimming hole beneath the falls where you can perch up and marvel at the beautiful surroundings.

There are no food and drink options at Camugao Falls so best to pack your own snacks and drinking water if you plan to spend some time at this epic Bohol tourist spot.

KAWASAN FALLS BOHOL

Kawasan Falls is still yet to make a name for itself as one of the most beautiful places in Bohol.

Kawasan Falls is located in the town of Antequera in Bohol. It’s approximately 30 minutes drive from Tagbilaran City or a 1-hour drive from Panglao and there is a small entrance fee of 20 pesos.

Kawasan Falls is not an outrageous waterfall with a heavy flow of water but it’s the jungle surroundings and the nearby Abatan River that make this place so tranquil.

You can enjoy a nice walk through the forest along a jungle trail down to the Abatan River where you can find a few sheltered huts on stilts. A perfect spot to have a picnic with your friends!

Once you have checked out the river, continue on the trail for a few minutes to reach Kawasan Falls.

A trickle of water flows down a tall rock face from the rice terraces on top of the hill and into a small lagoon at the base of the falls. The catch basin is quite shallow and a great spot for a swim to cool off.

SEVILLA TWIN HANGING BRIDGE

The Sipatan Twin Hanging Bridges, also known as the Sevilla Twin Hanging Bridges, are a remarkable sight in Bohol, Philippines.

Suspended 25 meters above the Sipatan River, these bridges offer great views that you’ll love taking photos of.

Originally, the bridge was made of woven bamboo slats and ropes, serving as a key crossing point for locals. Over time, it has been renovated with steel cables for added safety and stability, while retaining its traditional bamboo design.

Located about 31 KM from Tagbilaran City, you can quickly stop here on the way to Bilar Man-Made Forest and the Bohol Tarsier Conservation Area .

So, if you’re planning a trip to Bohol, don’t miss out on a walk across the Sevilla Twin Hanging Bridges!

INAMBACAN CAVE & SPRING

Yet another off-the-beaten-path location is the Inambacan Cave and Spring. Although it’s not yet on the radar of most tourists, it’s definitely worth visiting.

Inambacn Cave and Spring is located in Maribojoc in Bohol. From Panglao, it is a 40km drive that takes around 1 hour to reach Inamabacan Cave.

There is a small ticket office at the entrance to Inambacan Cave and Spring Bohol and the entrance fee is 20 pesos.

Inambacan Spring features a large lagoon and swimming area which is fed by a running freshwater stream.

There are many nooks and crannies to take a dip in the springs which are the perfect opportunity to jump on in and cool off.

The Inambacan Cave itself is a natural cave carved out of the hillside and a man-made pool has been built around it.

You can walk through the knee-deep water into the cave where you can find stalagmite pinnacles hanging from the ceiling.

BOHOL TOURIST SPOTS – FROM ANDA

Cadapdapan rice terraces.

If you thought Bohol was just beaches and waterfalls, think again.

The Cadapdapan Rice Terraces are hands down one of the most beautiful places to see in Bohol and an adventure not to be missed.

Cadapdapan Rice Terraces remind me of the rice fields in Bali with their tiered architecture and vivid green hues.

And on the plus side, there were absolutely no other tourists in sight when I visited these rice fields, unlike the herds of tourists that you’ll encounter in Bali.

Cadapdapan Rice Terraces can be found in the Candijay region. From Anda, i t is a 30km drive that takes approximately 50 minutes to reach Cadapdapan Rice Terraces.

The entrance fee at Cadapdapan Rice Terraces is 50 pesos.

I visited Cadapdapan Rice Terraces early one morning to catch the sunrise at 5:30 am and made it just in time to wander out into these gorgeous rice fields and witness a colorful sunrise as it lit up this remarkable vista.

There is a narrow dirt trail leading right out into the center of the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces and I remember it being so silent and peaceful.

I spent some time just standing amongst the tall rice fields enjoying the sunrise and shooting some photos of a cluster of coconut palms out on the terraces.

I continued along the trail to a nearby hill that is almost perfectly round in shape and resembles something similar to the Chocolate Hills.

This incredible viewpoint not only overlooks the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces but it also boasts extensive views down the valley and to the ocean.

CAN UMANTAD FALLS

Can-umantad Falls in Candijay is the biggest and arguably the  best waterfall in Bohol . Located high in the hills away from the main tourist towns, Can-umantad Falls is an adventure not to be missed!

Can-Umantad Falls is located in the Candijay region. From Anda, it takes approximately 50 minutes and the entrance fee  is 20 pesos.

From the jump-off point, it’s a short 5-minute walk along a clearly marked trail to reach Can-umantad Falls.

The way is made up of dirt trails, stone steps, and wooden bridges that cross the running freshwater stream.

There are a number of rockpools leading up to the main set of falls which are very inviting with their milky blue waters.

This is your first opportunity to take a refreshing dip following the long journey to reach this Bohol tourist spot.

The height of Can-umantad Falls is said to be 60ft making it the tallest waterfall in Bohol.

Its water source originates from the blue and cool water from Pundol Spring in Candapdapan, making its way downstream to the 60ft drop at Can Umantad Falls and into a large basin below.

Swimming under the flow of water to receive a natural head and neck massage is an awesome experience to have at Can-umantad Falls Candijay.

The water is quite shallow on the edges of the catch basin but it becomes deeper the closer you get to the falls.

CANAWA COLD SPRING

The Canawa Cold Spring in Candijay, in my opinion, is the  best cold spring on Bohol island.

It’s a popular spot for the Filipino locals to hang out though you won’t see many tourists here.

Canawa Spring is located in the Candijay region in Bohol. I t takes approximately 50 minutes to drive from Anda to Canawa Cold Spring and the entrance fee is 20 pesos.

There are two main springs at Canawa, one is a man-made pool with concrete walls and a somewhat dam-like structure, and the other is a natural pool that is almost completely surrounded by lush trees.

The natural pool at the back is far more beautiful than the man-made pool that you see when you first arrive.

So don’t be deterred by this concrete section of Canawa Cold Spring, just be sure to keep wandering along to discover the enchanting blue pool at the back.

A long rope stretches from one side of the cold spring to the other, so you can use this as an aid if swimming isn’t your strong point.

There is also a high tree branch above this natural pool that can be climbed and used as a jump-off point into the spring.

BINABAJE HILLS HIKE

Binabaje Hills, in my opinion, is the best hike in Bohol that takes around 1 hour to reach the summit, boasting panoramic views of the island and its coastlines.

Binabaje Hills is located in Alicia, a town in the northeastern region of Bohol island. It’s approximately a 45-minute drive from Anda to Alicia and the cost is 300 pesos for the guide and 50 pesos entrance fee.

Organizing a hike to Binabaje Hills was a bit more of a process compared to other hikes that I have been on, so to make it easier for you I have explained everything you need to know in the full blog post – Click Here to view.

The morning began with a 3 am alarm clock to make the 45-minute drive from my accommodation in Anda to reach Alicia in time to meet the guide Raul who then took us to the trailhead of the hike.

The first 15 minutes of the trail is quite mellow to start with, perfect to warm up the legs at 4 in the morning, but it quickly becomes very steep.

We hopped over small creek crossings, took a couple of water breaks in small huts along the way, and then scrambled up the narrow ridge trail to finally reach the summit of Binabaje Hills.

There is a small hut at the top that marks the highest point of the Binabaje Hills hike and I arrived drowning in sweat.

The sun was still yet to rise so I took a 5-minute break here before continuing to explore the mountaintop area.

The top hut doesn’t offer the best view of the region as it is surrounded by trees and shrubs so our guide Raul showed us another spot to watch the sunrise from.

It was a very hazy morning, unfortunately, so the sunrise wasn’t that spectacular, though the extensive views of the coastline and surrounding mountains were spectacular nonetheless.

We spent around 1 hour at the top of Binabaje Hills taking photos and enjoying the view before heading back down to the base of the mountain.

Safe to say the Binabaje Hills Hike is one of the best Bohol tourist spots worth checking out.

KINAHUGAN FALLS  

Kinahugan Falls is one of the most  off-the-beaten-path waterfalls in Bohol. A short five-minute hike along a jungle trail to Kinahugan Falls is a worthy adventure.

Kinahugan Falls is located in Jagna. F rom Anda, it’s s a 37km drive that takes approximately 50 minutes and the entrance is 10 pesos per person.

The trek to Kinahugan Falls from the parking lot takes no more than five minutes down a narrow dirt trail that can be quite slippery so take your time through this section.

When you reach the bottom of the trail it opens up to a flat plateau  surrounded by coconut palms  and a river runs down one side of the valley.

We caught our first glimpse of Kinahugan Waterfall from here and we followed the trail up some large tree roots that act as stairs. This lead us to a viewing platform at the top which was covered in vibrant foliage from the canopy above.

There are actually  two sets of falls at Kinahugan Waterfall boasting mass volumes of water gushing down a rock face into the river below.

Kinahugan Falls isn’t the most ideal spot for a swim as there is quite a lot of water moving around and it did look quite dangerous to be fair.

This location is purely for marveling at and enjoying the scenic jungle  that surrounds Kinahugan Falls.

DANAO ADVENTURE PARK

Danao Adventure Park is another incredible Bohol new tourist spot, a haven for thrill-seekers and nature lovers.

Nestled about 1 hour from the Chocolate Hills, the park boasts one of the longest and tallest zip line in the country, named “sui-slide” and is 200-meter deep and 500-meter long.

When coming, you can expect a day filled with adrenaline-pumping activities. From zip-lining to rappelling, it’s going to be an experience for the books!

The entrance fee is only 25 pesos, but you’ll pay extra for each activity you’ll do, such as the following:

• Plunge – P700 per person
• Sky Ride – P250 per person
• River Tubing – P200.00/person
• Kayaking – P200.00/person
• River/Mountain Trekking/Hiking – P200.00/person
• Wall Climbing – P100.00/person
• Rappel w/ root climbing – P400.00/person
• Suislide – P350.00/person

There is more, but these are the most common and exciting activities you can do!

Danao Adventure Park is not just a place for adrenaline junkies, but also for those who appreciate natural beauty, and I highly recommend coming.

LONOY COLD SPRING

Lonoy Cold Spring is one of the top Bohol attractions and a great spot to spend an hour or two swimming in the man-made pools which are fed by a nearby freshwater stream.

Lonoy Cold Spring is located in Jagna and can be visited on the same day you visit Kinahugan Falls. F rom Anda, it is a 38km drive which takes around 55 minutes and the entrance fee is 20 pesos.

Lonoy Cold Spring is made up of three separate springs that are fed from the runoff of water from the nearby mountains.

The flow of water cascades down the hillside into each man-made pool and meets the freshwater stream at the bottom.

It’s a popular location for the locals to hang out on weekends and you won’t find too many tourists here.

They are always very friendly and welcoming to foreigners so take the time to get to know them and learn more about the local way of life here in Bohol.

Snacks and drinks are also available for purchase from the little shop next to the springs.

The water inside Lon oy Cold Spring is no more than six feet deep and it’s a great spot to cool off while listening to the sounds of the surrounding forested area.

LAMANOK ISLAND & MANGROVE BOARDWALK

Lamanok Island, also spelled Lamanoc, is said to be one of the most mysterious places to go in Bohol.

Lamanok has a long history of being a sacred place for priests and healers who would make offerings to nature spirits on the island and some people claim to have seen or heard paranormal activity on Lamanoc.

Apart from the spookiness of Lamanok, you can enjoy a half-day of fun activities such as island hopping, kayaking, hiking, and caving.

CABAGNOW CAVE POOL

Mother Nature has carved over twenty major cave pools in Anda and  Cabagnow Cave Pool is arguably the biggest, the best, and the most beautiful out of them all.

I highly recommend adding Cabagnow Cave Pool to your list of must-visit tourist spots in Bohol.

From the main town in Anda, Cabagnow Cave Pool is a 5-minute drive. The entrance fee is 50 pesos and the parking fee is 20 pesos.

Follow the dirt trail from the parking lot to Cabagnow Cave Pool which is clearly marked and it takes no more than 10 minutes to walk.

About 2 minutes in, I came across an intersection and a sign that read  ‘Tibaw Cave Pool’  with an arrow pointing to the left which leads down to another epic cave pool. I decided to check this one out first before heading over to Cabagnow Cave Pool.

This unique cenote / sinkhole / cave pool is surrounded by coral rock and  filled with fresh water  which is fed from the nearby mountains.

To enter the deep blue-colored pool you can either walk across the rocks and slip in on the shallow side or if you’re keen on a jump there is a 2-meter cliff jump on the opposite side of the pool.

The depth of the water is around 3 meters deep so you won’t have to worry about hitting the bottom if you decide to do some cliff jumping.

I continued on to find Cabagnow Cave Pool which is only a 5-minute walk from Tibaw Cave Pool.

The Cabagnow Cave Pool is much larger but unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to enter the pool without the ladder that used to be in place.

It’s a 5-meter drop into the sinkhole so there is no way of getting out once you’re down in the water.

BLUE HEAVEN VIEWPOINT ANDA

The Blue Heaven Viewpoint Anda is the highest peak on the Anda Peninsula which offers panoramic views of Bohol Island and its coastlines.

I visited Blue Heaven Viewpoint Anda one afternoon to watch the sunset and it was one of the highlights of my Bohol trip.

Blue Heaven Viewpoint is approximately a 20-minute drive inland from Anda town center and the entrance is free.

It’s very easy to find this viewpoint with the use of Google maps and when you arrive at the jump-off point on the side of the main road, it’s a short 2-minute walk along a dirt trail to the top of the hill.

There is a small sheltered hut at the summit offering extensive views of the Anda region and its beaches. On a clear day, you can see the neighboring islands of Camiguin and Surigao.

Blue Heaven Viewpoint Anda, in my opinion, is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Bohol.

QUINALE BEACH ANDA

Quinale Beach was one of my favorite beaches to explore while I was in Anda and coincidently, it’s dubbed the best beach in Bohol.

Quinale Beach Anda is most famed for its long stretch of white soft sands, crystal clear waters, palm tree fringed shores, beach bars, and open-style huts that are dotted along the coastline.

Not a bad spot to spend a few hours if you ask me!

The best time to visit Quinale Beach is during high tide to see its true beauty. Visiting at low tide is also okay but there may be a lot of seaweed grass along the shores.

There are many spots to perch up under the shade of a coconut palm or under the sun to work on that summer tan.

Quinale Beach is not to be missed on your list of must-see Bohol tourist spots.

CATERES CAVE POOL

Cateres Cave Pool is one of the many epic cave pools in Anda and a real hidden treasure.

From the town center of Anda, it is approximately a 5-minute drive to reach Cateres Cave Pool.

Follow Dapdap Beach Road right to the end till you come to a closed-off gate and this is the jump-off point.

The trail is narrow and overgrown but I assure you it emerges at the Cateres Cave Pool. It’s a short 2-minute walk from the jump-off point and there is no entrance fee.

When I arrived there was a group of teens hanging out, listening to music, and drinking rum. They were super friendly and I sat down and chatted with them for a while.

The cave pool is tucked away under the cliffs and stalagmite pinnacles hang from the ceiling. I couldn’t resist jumping into the turquoise lagoon to cool off.

Cateres Cave Pool is not as popular as Cabagnow Cave Pool and chances are you won’t see any other tourists here.

CANUBA BEACH

Canuba Beach is one of the most beautiful yet underrated beaches in Bohol.

White sands, beach shacks, and a palm tree-fringed shoreline make this location a must-see Bohol tourist attraction.

Canuba Beach can be found in the Jagna region. From Anda, it is approximately a 50-minute drive to reach Can-uba Beach.

When we visited Canuba Beach we were literally the only two people along the entire coastline. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and I was in complete awe of the sheer beauty of this place.

If you’re looking for an uncrowded beach to spend some time during your Bohol trip, head over to Canuba Beach and you will find exactly that!

WHITE BEACH ANDA

White Beach in Anda is hands down one of the best beaches in Bohol.

I visited White Beach for sunset one afternoon and explored the white sands, swam in the shallow crystalline waters, and hung out underneath the coconut palms.

From the town center in Anda, it is a short 5-minute drive to White Beach. You can ride your scooter all the way down to Anda White Beach Resort and park in the small parking lot.

From the jump-off point, follow the dirt trail on the right-hand side of the resort to get down to the beach.

My favorite part about White Beach Anda is the cluster of palm trees that reside on the soft sands.

I spent some time taking photos here before running into the ocean to cool off after a long day of adventures. The crystal clear waters here are to die for!

Once again there were no other tourists in sight, just a bunch of local kids running around on the beach, kicking sand and having an absolute blast. Ah, the simple things!

COMBENTO CAVE POOL

After Cabagnow Cave Pool, Combento Cave Pool in Anda is my second favorite cave pool in the region and a must-visit while you’re exploring Bohol.

From the town center of Anda, it is approximately a 5-minute drive to reach Combento Cave Pool. You’ll find a small parking lot at the jump-off point and there is an entrance fee of 25 pesos.

A coconut palm tree forest welcomes you as you enter past the ticket office and the Combento Cave is located in the back corner of the property. The locals will be sure to point it out to you.

A set of concrete stairs with bamboo hand railings leads the way through a narrow entrance and opens up into a large dome-like cave with a freshwater lagoon inside.

The crystalline water inside the Combento Cave is incredibly transparent with a hint of blue. It’s waist-deep and a great spot for a refreshing dip.

The cave is quite dark inside and only natural light fills the dome at certain times of the day.

You don’t need much time to check out the Combento Cave but you could quite easily spend a couple of hours swimming in the lagoons and chilling out under the canopy of the coconut palm forest.

ALICIA PANORAMIC PARK

Last but not least in this Bohol tourist spots guide is the Alicia Panoramic Park near Anda.

Alicia Panoramic Park is a hill that you can hike and that’ll get you to some of the best views of Bohol.

The hike lasts between 1 and 2 hours, and the last part is particularly steep, so I do not recommend coming during the rainy season.

Also, getting here is a journey and, despite taking about 1 hour from Poblacion, Anda, you can expect rough roads that aren’t easy to drive on. If you still decide to come, I highly recommend getting travel insurance – safety first!

To hike the Alicia Panoramic Park, you’ll have to get a guide, and you can contact Kuyang Tour Guide on Facebook . You can expect to pay around 300 pesos or 500 if you decide to camp overnight.

All in all, while it’s far from an easy hike, the views are worth it and I suggest you come if you have some time left after visiting other Bohol tourist spots!

ARRIVING IN BOHOL

If you are arriving on the island by ferry, see below for the best ways to get from Tagbilaran Port to Panglao and from Tagbilaran Port to Anda.

Tagbilaran Port to Panglao (45 Minutes)

From Tagbilaran to Panglao, you have the option of taking a shared minivan, private taxi, public bus, or tricycle.

TRICYCLE + BUS:

The cheapest option is to take a short tricycle from Tagbilaran Port to Dao Bus Terminal in Tagbilaran City for 30 Pesos ($1.50).

From there you can take the public bus to Alona Beach in Panglao (the main tourist hub in Panglao) which costs around 50 – 100 Pesos ($2.50 – $5).

SHARED MINIVAN:

A shared minivan transfer from Tagbilaran Port to the doorstep of your hotel in Panglao is another great option for only 300 Pesos ($15).

Tricycle rides from Tagbilaran to Panglao cost around 200 – 300 Pesos ($10 – $15) depending on your bartering skills.

I don’t recommend this option because long rides on a tricycle are very uncomfortable.

PRIVATE TAXI:

A private taxi from Tagbilaran to Panglao costs around 700 Pesos ($35).

Tagbilaran Port to Anda (3 Hours)

From Tagbilaran Port to Anda, you have the option of taking a private taxi, public bus, or shared minivan.

The cheapest option is to take a tricycle from Tagbilaran Port to the Dao Bus terminal in Tagbilaran City for 30 Pesos.

From there you can take the public bus to Anda which costs around 110 Pesos.

Minivans are another cheap option to reach Anda for as little as 120 Pesos though it can get quite claustrophobic as they try to fit as many people in the vans as possible.

A private taxi from Tagbilaran to Anda costs around 3000 Pesos.

During the wet season, the hills take on the impression of being cushioned and lush due to the grass that covers them. They acquire their name from the browning of the flora that occurs throughout the summer months, when it dies off and takes on a chocolaty colour.

2. Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary

The Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary is also one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island of Bohol. There are tarsiers, a small primate species on the verge of extinction, in this massive forest. Small, nocturnal primates with large, rounded eyes, these animals have been around for 45 million years. They are easily stressed due to their frail nature and high levels of emotional sensitivity. In times of extreme stress, tarsiers have been known to kill themselves by slamming their skulls against tree trunks, thus tourists are asked to keep noise levels down. Photos by guests are welcome, however, flash photography is prohibited. Also, tarsiers are off-limits for human interaction.

3. Bilar Man-Made Forest

Bohol’s Bilar Man-Made Forest is one of the most magical Bohol tourist spot. It was Governor Conrado Marapao in 1953 that initiated the reforestation program that had been planned since 1947. Deforestation in the Loboc watershed was the reason for this.

The Bilar Man-Made Forest is a popular stop on tours of Bohol, and with good reason. The forest’s well-spaced tree canopies create a natural tunnel, perfect for a leisurely stroll. 8. Hinagdanan Cave

The Hinagdanan Cave on the island of Bohol is widely considered to be among the world’s most stunning natural wonders and also one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bohol. It provides a pool of clean water in which one may swim while admiring the stalactites and stalagmites that decorate the ceiling of the cavern.

It is supposed to have been discovered by accident by a farmer who erected a ladder to enter the cave, thus giving the cave its current name. The cave may be found in Dauis. 9. Cadapdapan Rice Terraces

There are actually quite a few rice terraces in the area, such as in the towns of Sierra Bullones, Lila, and Jagna. However, almost everyone would agree that the rice terraces in Candijay are the ones that all visitors should see. People who live there think that the natives of the area built this beautiful structure many years ago. It may not be as big as the Banaue Rice Terraces, but it is just as beautiful in terms of how it looks as a whole.

10. Can-umantad Falls

The beautiful waterfalls Can-umantad Falls is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bohol are just a few minutes away from the Cadapdapan Rice Terraces, or I should say just below them. The people who live there say that it is the tallest waterfall not just in that part of Bohol, but in all of Bohol.

The main cascade of the falls is 60 feet tall. It has three layers, each with structures made of boulders that give a different view of how the water flows down. The waterfall basin is very shallow, so you don’t have to worry if you don’t know how to swim. (But it is very rocky, so you should wear shoes that can handle that.) You would see the next cascade, which is smaller than the first one, a little farther down the falls. And its water falls into a small green pool that is clean. Most visitors come here to take it easy and enjoy the view. The water from the falls is clean, fresh, and cool, making it a great place to cool off from the intense heat.

11. Danao Adventure Park

i think the chocolate hills in carmen are 1,260 all in all since the 8 hills vanished because of the earthquake.

Anda Travel Guide: Experience Bohol’s Emerging Hotspot

So you have been to the province of Bohol, you have basked in the white sand beaches and dived the vivid underwater world of Panglao and Cabilao, awed with the panoramic beauty of the Chocolate Hills, visited the centuries-old churches, feasted on the sumptuous foods on a river cruise, or seen the iconic Tarsiers. But if you have done all of the above and you think you have seen all of the province, then think again. Unbeknownst to many, there’s more in Bohol than the usual itinerary, more nature’s wonders and surprises await for those who seek beyond Tagbilaran, Panglao, Cabilao, Loboc, Baclayon or Carmen.

Among the province’s fast emerging hot spot is Anda , situated in the eastern coast of the island, roughly 110 kilometer or three-hour ride from Tagbilaran City. With its manifold of attractions, Anda is definitely divine! Fine white sand beaches, rich marine life, enchanting cave and cave pools, hidden waterfalls, and more! Anda is definitely divine!

Anda’s main attraction is just a stone-throw away from the town proper – Quinale Beach, hailed by many as among the best beaches in Bohol. From manila.

Catch a plane to Tagbilaran City, the capital of Bohol. Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Air Asia have daily flights from Manila to Tagbilaran via their new airport in Panglao. From Panglao Airport, flag a tricycle a taxi or mini-bus to take you to Dao Terminal then catch a bus (P100) or van (P120) to Anda at Dao Terminal, travel time is two to three hours.

By Fast Craft or Ferry

Supercat and Ocean Jet Fast Craft have multiple departures daily from Cebu City to Tagbilaran City, travel time is around two hours. Meanwhile, Cokaliong, Lite Shipping, Trans-Asia Shipping and F.J. Palacio Lines also have regular ferry or RoRo departures with varying frequencies daily or weekly, travel time for slow ferry takes four hours. From Tagbilaran Port, flag a tricycle to take you to Dao Terminal and catch a bus (P100) or van (P120) to Anda at Dao Terminal, travel time is two to three hours. Going Around and Away

Tricycle and habal-habal (motorbike) are the primary mode of transport around Anda and to Guindulman, minimum fare is P8/pax. Transportation going to Tagbilaran City is limited, the usual route is to take a tricycle to Guindulman (P30/pax). At the main highway in Guindulman you may take a van or bus to Tabilaran City, or other towns in the east coast such as Jagna, Dimiao, Garcia Hernandez, Valencia, Lila or Loay. Vans and buses going to Candijay (Can-Umantad Falls) and Ubay also pass by Guindulman.

Where to Stay in Anda

For groups, R & S Seaside Unit is a good choice, just few steps away from Quinale Beach. An air-condition room that can fit six (or even up to eight) people is only at P1,900 overnight. Dining is not a problem, there are plenty of restaurants along Quinale Beach and in Poblacion to choose from – R&S Resto Bar, On The Road Restaurant Bar, Coco Loco and Anda Beach Bar among others. For those in budget, there are also plenty of eateries in tow, particularly in Food Center near the public market which is also walking distance from Quinale Beach. There’s a stall there selling Halo-Halo, I believe it’s the best in town.

Hop on a ferry from Dumaguete & wander around the mystical island of Siquijor. This small island off-the-coast of Negros Oriental province in Central Philippines is famous for its stunning beach coves, waterfalls, and as a home of mountain-dwelling mangkukulam (healers/Filipino witches).

Touchdown at Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport, which serves direct flights from Manila and Cebu. From Dumaguete Pier, ride one of the frequent ferries to Siquijor. Travel time by fastcraft (high-speed ferry) is 50 minutes. You can also reach Siquijor on a direct ferry from Cebu or Bohol.

MUNICIPALITY OF SAN ISIDRO

This was once a part of Antequera and was once called Macapagao because a person living there had a very harsh voice. People coming from this place referred to it as Macapagao. Later the place was called Agbunan due to a plant called “Bugang” which bears white flowers and which spreads or scatters (agbun) into the air when the wind blows.When Catigbian was made a town during the Spanish regime, Agbun was one of the barrios of the newly created town. Favorable climate and fertile soil lured people to come to Agbunan and settled there. They were able to construct a chapel in honor of St. Isidore, the patron saint of farmers.During the Phil-Am War, Catigbian was destroyed and its barrios were ceded to neighboring municipalities. Agbunan was back to Antequera. When Catigbian was restored, Agbunan again became a part of Catigbian. Agbunan or San Isidro was one of the big barangays of Catigbian.
