  • Trivia Roxann Dawson (B'Elanna Torres) went into labor during the production of this episode. That is why B'Elanna is seen in Engineering towards the beginning of the show, but is strangely absent when Captain Janeway briefs the senior officers during the special meeting about Omega.
  • Goofs Seven of Nine makes a personal log entry, but she gives the date as "Stardate 15781.2," transposing the first two digits. It should have been "Stardate 51781.2."

Seven of Nine : For 3.2 seconds, I saw perfection. When Omega stabilized, I felt a curious sensation. As I was watching it, it seemed to be watching me. - The Borg have assimilated many species, with mythologies to explain such moments of clarity. I've always dismissed them as trivial. Perhaps I was wrong.

Captain Kathryn Janeway : If I didn't know you better... I'd say you just had your first spiritual experience.

Recap / Star Trek Voyager S 4 E 19 The Omega Directive

Edit locked.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/voy_omegadirective_034.jpg

The Omega particle is known to Starfleet captains and admirals, but not to any lower ranking officers or enlisted. Since Seven of Nine was in the Borg collective, which has assimilated Starfleet officers like Captain Picard, Seven knows about the Omega directive. She also knows that the Borg revere the Omega particle for its perfection.

Back in the Alpha Quadrant, Janeway would have help dealing with Omega. In the Delta Quadrant, she has her crew, but still feeling guilty about stranding them on the other side of the galaxy, decides she and Seven should go at it alone, just the two of them. But as work on the project reveals that there are many more factors of Omega particles than can be practically neutralized, Janeway decides to involve her senior staff into working on a more effective solution. Between the Borg technology that Seven has acquired, and the crew working in tandem on a containment unit, they quickly work on a better solution. But trouble still looms ahead, as the alien civilization who created Omega won't give up without a fight, and then Seven can't give up on her notion that she get Omega to stabilize in perfect harmony...

All hell breaks loose as the Voyager crew beams up Omega into the containment unit and they start the process to destabilize the molecules. The enemy ships' weapons risk destroying both Voyager and the subspace in the quadrant. As the procedure continues, Seven is shocked when she manages to witness the Omega molecules achieve harmony without any explainable reasons. Despite the achievement, Janeway orders to have the containment unit beamed into space and destroyed, as a minimum safe amount of the Omega molecules have now been safely neutralized. Voyager manages to warp away as the explosion goes off, with the aliens pre-warp vessels unable to pursue.

The episode ends with Janeway and Seven in da Vinci's workshop on the holodeck, as they ponder over the past few days of events. Seven explains that she was delighted to finally witnessing her personal goal of perfection (seeing the stable formation of Omega), but she's left with more questions now than answers. When inside the Collective, they generally decided on which ideals made the most sense, but now that she's alone she can't come to a reasonable conclusion as to what she believes now. Janeway simply reassures her by saying, "If I didn't know you better, I'd say you just had your first spiritual experience."

Contains examples of:

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg : Seven's voice cracks as she asks Chakotay to authorize her plan to stabilize the Omega molecule, adding "Please" despite showing No Social Skills throughout the episode.
  • Alien Non-Interference Clause : The Omega Directive is the one thing Starfleet will rescind the Prime Directive for, which allows Janeway to lead a strike team to a world they had not even made contact with yet with the intent to destroy it. The alternative is rampant destruction of subspace .
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking : Seven plans to work, eat, exercise, and read A Christmas Carol .
  • Artistic License – History : Albert Einstein never worked directly in the development of atomic weapons, although his theory of mass-energy equivalence (e=mc squared) laid the groundwork for them, and he did sign a letter advising President Franklin Roosevelt that American research into the area be accelerated as World War 2 neared. His only regret in that regard was from encouraging such research, as it became clear after the war neither Germany or Japan had the resources to construct atomic bombs, and Soviet Russia only figured it out from spying on America's efforts, which led to the Cold War.
  • Artistic License – Space : The alien moon is said to have an atmosphere eleven thousand kilometers thick. For context, the entire planet Earth has a diameter of 12,800 kilometers.
  • The "Be Careful!" Speech : Janeway demands a hypospray of Fantastic Radiation Shielding , and curtly overrules the Doctor when he objects that it's dangerous. However the Doctor earns a Gooey Look when he gives this trope.
  • Bittersweet Ending : The Omega particles, which could be used to power civilizations, had to be destroyed; but for a few precious seconds, Seven glimpsed perfection.
  • Butt-Monkey : Seven engages in her usual Harry-bashing, even going so far as to "demote" him in as part of her work detail.
  • Blunt "No" : Harry : Wanna know what I think? Tuvok : No.
  • Tuvok is playing kal-toh with Ensign Kim, which they started doing at the end of "Alter Ego".
  • Carol Marcus and her Genesis Device is mentioned.
  • Cargo Cult : The Borg have one for Omega, considering it the epitome of perfection to which they strive.
  • Classified Information : Everything about the Omega particle is restricted to Starfleet Captains and Flagship Officers. The crew are understandably annoyed at this , given that they're effectively told to do tasks without being able to use their Gadgeteer Genius skills. Seven is brought into Janeway's confidence, as she already knows about the Omega Directive from Starfleet captains who've been assimilated by the Borg. However these rules have been written for the Alpha Quadrant, where a Starfleet captain would call in a specialized Starfleet team to deal with the crisis. Janeway is convinced to include the senior staff when the crisis turns out to be bigger than she expected.
  • Eldritch Abomination : Of a sort; Omega's true nature can't be known, and it's responsible for much destruction and loss of life, including the potential to destroy subspace - the medium of the universe which enables warp speed. Its very existence is considered the Godzilla Threshold by Starfleet. On seeing its creation, Seven even has the sense that it may be self-aware enough to study her in response.
  • Expy : In-universe, Seven creates one of a Hive Mind to build and maintain the resonance chamber, even demoting Harry when he refuses to play along!
  • Famous, Famous, Fictional : When discussing the potential of the Omega Particle, Janeway mentions Einstein and the atom bomb (famous), and Carol Marcus and the Genesis Device (fictional).
  • For Science! : Averted; Omega is so dangerous that Starfleet wants it destroyed. Alien scientist: Small-minded creatures! You destroy whatever you don't understand!
  • Starfleet procedure goes out the airlock when Omega is involved. Captain Janeway is set on destroying a dangerous phenomenon instead of investigating it, keeps the crew out of the loop, and the Prime Directive is superseded.
  • Janeway eventually letting the senior crew know what's up. Seven is already aware of Omega and the Omega Directive because the Borg assimilated knowledge of it, likely from Picard and the victims of Wolf 359, and Voyager , being stranded in the Delta Quadrant, has no access to Starfleet resources, forcing Janeway to throw together an Omega Directive squadron from her own personnel.
  • Just as Janeway has been authorized to destroy Omega at all costs, Seven says that Borg drones have been instructed to assimilate it at all costs.
  • The species developing the Omega molecule. Their resources are drained and they don't have warp technology, so can't get outside help.
  • Gone Horribly Right : Along with Marcus, Janeway thinks of Einstein and the atomic bomb when comparing peoples' reactions to the revolutionary devices which they helped create, but could be (and were) perverted into deadly weapons; Janeway can understand how they must have felt, and Ketteract must have felt the same about Omega shortly before the end of his life.
  • Headbutting Heroes : Averted during the final Janeway/Seven confrontation in Cargo Bay 2. Unlike in "Prey", this time Seven does understand Janeway's perspective, and steps aside to allow the captain to destroy Omega.
  • Holy Grail : Janeway calls Omega this for the Borg. Seven doesn't get the reference.
  • Hyperspeed Escape : When pursued by sublight spacecraft, Voyager can't flee because of the damage from the Omega explosion . They escape the region Just in Time to detonate the Omega particles and jump to warp.
  • If I Do Not Return : And for once this trope is meant to be taken seriously, as Chakotay would have only ten seconds to pull a Hyperspeed Escape before Omega created a No Warping Zone , if Janeway's shuttle mission didn't succeed. Averted in the end as she involves more of the crew and Voyager itself.
  • In Harm's Way : Janeway would rather go on a Suicide Mission than put Voyager 's crew at risk. Fortunately Chakotay convinces her to at least bring the senior officers into the problem; however, this also leads to them realizing they'll need Voyager itself to pull off the mission.
  • Insufferable Genius : Seven effortlessly completes the kal-toh game Harry has been working on all night, saying it's "elementary spatial harmonics". Kim asks what Seven needs the rest of the crew for, only to get a Meaningful Look from Seven. "Forget I asked." Seven of Nine: The modifications require several complex calculations. Assist me. Captain Janeway: I guess I will .
  • Lock Down : The moment the sensors detect the Omega shockwave Voyager automatically drops out of warp with all sensors shut down, and the computer can only be accessed by the captain.
  • Mad Lib Thriller Title : Going by the name, you'd be forgiven if you thought this was a Robert Ludlum joint.
  • The Main Characters Do Everything : Janeway and her senior staff are the ones most involved in destroying Omega. This is justified for two reasons: the extreme need-to-know nature of the Omega Directive (which Janeway is already bending to a serious degree) and the fact that Voyager is the only ship around to deal with things. Janeway even explains that if this were in the Alpha Quadrant, Starfleet would be sending a specialized team to destroy Omega.
  • Male Gaze : The camera drops to show Seven's ass as she's walking away from the audience while in the cargo bay.
  • A Million Is a Statistic : The Borg consider 600,000 dead drones an irrelevance in their quest to stabilize the Omega particle. They also assimilated a number of primitive species just to follow the chain of evidence to Omega.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast : Nothing good will come from something named after the last and most ominous letter in the Greek alphabet.
  • No Man Should Have This Power : Omega is so dangerous Starfleet immediately scrapped their research into it, deemed it not just classified but straight Orwellian Retcon and created a protocol where all ship resources must be dedicated to locating and destroying it.
  • No Social Skills : Lampshaded by the Doctor when Seven tries to barge into his Sickbay and interrogate a barely conscious patient. He promises to teach the subject on her next course.
  • No Warping Zone : A single Omega particle detonation can destroy subspace across an entire sector, making warp travel impossible throughout said sector (which has already occurred in the Lantaru Sector, with Starfleet officially declaring it a natural phenomenon), and a large enough chain reaction could do the same to an entire quadrant . This is why Starfleet is freakin' scared of Omega and wants it destroyed at any cost.
  • Oh, Crap! : Many times throughout the episode, especially as the molecule count goes from one to dozens to hundreds to over two hundred million.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business : Former science officer Janeway wants Omega destroyed without bothering to study it. Seven's desire to gaze upon it is compared to religious fervor.
  • Outgrown Such Silly Superstitions : Averted; Seven dismisses speculation by primitive species (including human ) about the nature of the Omega particle, yet the Borg quest also has religious overtones. She appeals to Chakotay's beliefs when begging him to let her stabilize the molecule, and at the end of the episode compares her gazing on a fully formed Omega molecule to a religious epiphany. Seven: This simulation contains many religious components. I was studying them to help me understand what I saw in Cargo Bay two. Janeway: The data isn't clear why Omega stabilized in the last few seconds. The chances are it was simply a chaotic anomaly, nothing more. Seven: For three point two seconds I saw perfection. When Omega stabilized, I felt a curious sensation. As I was watching it, it seemed to be watching me. The Borg have assimilated many species with mythologies to explain such moments of clarity. I've always dismissed them as trivial. Perhaps I was wrong. Janeway: If I didn't know you better, I'd say you just had your first spiritual experience.
  • Out-of-Character Moment : One for the ships computers. They've never had an automated Lock Down like that and the Omega symbol indicates a protocol no one knew existed.
  • Properly Paranoid : Omega is Classified Information because of the risk that the information will be taken by force, which has already happened with the Borg.
  • Rule of Funny : The work 'collective' Seven forms on Voyager . Giving everyone Borg designations would actually be less efficient, but sets up a gag involving Harry Kim getting "demoted".
  • Rule of Symbolism : In-Universe when Seven studies the religious symbols in the Da Vinci holo-program, in order to come to grips with the experience of witnessing perfection.
  • Schizo Tech : The species that was working on Omega have fast sublight ships with weapons that are a legitimate threat to Voyager ...and are a pre-warp civilization . Justified in that their solar system has an ample supply of the rare substance required to synthesize Omega, and their local subspace may have been damaged, producing false negatives in warp tests, well before the Voyager crew showed up.
  • Shrouded in Myth : A previous event 100 years ago involving Omega resulted in a region of subspace being destroyed and no ships can cross. Paris comments that he had heard of that region, but everyone believed it was a natural phenomenon.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right! : Convinced of the necessity, Janeway violates orders and tells only her senior staff about the Omega particle in detail.
  • Janeway being so impressed with Seven's containment device that she leaves the Omega project (which is meant to destroy the particle) in her hands. Fortunately Seven proves loyal, despite admitting that she had every reason and opportunity to disobey orders.
  • The species who produced the Omega molecules are doing this too, as if the Borg find any evidence whatsoever about them discovering Omega, their civilization is going to be assimilated down to the last person.
  • These Are Things Man Was Not Meant to Know : Janeway: The Final Frontier has some boundaries that are not meant to be crossed.
  • Title Drop : Computer: Implement the Omega Directive immediately. All other priorities rescinded.
  • Ultimate Life Form : The Omega molecule is infinitely complex, yet harmonious; representing true perfection. It's speculated that a natural particle created the universe with the Big Bang , making it literally God.
  • Unobtanium : Boronite ore, the material needed to synthesize the Omega molecule, is suggested to be very rare — the Borg only had enough within their vast territory to synthesize a single, ultimately unstable, molecule
  • Visual Gag : Chakotay says "Try to shake them off" just before a Screen Shake .
  • Weapon of Mass Destruction : The ability for the Omega molecule to become this is lampshaded, though the emphasis is on the accidental damage it might cause by destroying subspace across half the Quadrant, throwing all spacefaring civilizations into a pre-warp state. Kim and Tuvok are shown loading a gravimetric charge into a torpedo, which Kim claims is powerful enough to destroy a small planet . Sure enough a moon is being used for Omega experiments, and at one point Tuvok suggests using the torpedo to destroy the experimental chamber, which presumably would have destroyed the moon as well .
  • Wham Line : Janeway and Tuvok examine the area where the Omega molecules are being contained, and they decide on a way to safely access Omega and remove it forcibly from the laboratory: Tuvok: Captain, I'd be negligent if I didn't point out that we're about to violate the Prime Directive. Janeway: For the duration of this mission, the Prime Directive has been rescinded . Let's get this over with.
  • With or Without You : Janeway: I'm going to neutralize this threat, Seven, with or without your help.
  • With Us or Against Us : Janeway gives Seven a choice between helping her destroy Omega or being confined to quarters. Seven is not intimidated, but cooperates because she desires to see Omega for herself.
  • You Are Number 6 : When Seven of Nine is put in charge of building the containment unit for the Omega molecules, she assigns Borg-style designations to each group member to "improve efficiency". Seven of Nine : Six of Ten, this is not your assignment. Harry Kim : Please, stop calling me that. Seven of Nine : You are compromising our productivity. I am reassigning you to chamber maintenance. Your new designation is Two of Ten. Harry Kim : Wait a minute, you're demoting me? Since when did the Borg pull rank? Seven of Nine : It's Starfleet Protocol I adapted. I find it most useful.
  • You Talk Too Much! : When planning her daily activities, Seven allocates 3 hours, 20 minutes for a task she's working on with Ensign Kim, plus an additional 17 minutes for his "conversational digressions". Later Captain Janeway cuts off Kim when he asks who developed the Weapon of Mass Destruction they're planting into a photon torpedo. "Mr Kim, you ask too many questions." The moment she leaves, Kim engages in rampant speculation on what the captain is up to.

Bases of Operation [ ]

The organization had numerous bases of operation hidden in various locations. All of these known bases had a wide array of functions from staging areas, scientific research and acting as a colony to a diverse collection of humanoid races. At least one of these bases had a Genesis Cave type environment as part of it. Specifically, a self contained eco-system made possible by technology was integrated into the base; presumably to provide for everything from fresh oxygen and a means to grow food and house personnel.

Covert Operations [ ]

Memory Omega worked completely in secret and its existence was known only to certain people and operatives working in the outside world. As such, all of the agency's operations were covert. Many operatives were sleeper agents who had built lives for themselves, having acquired important professional positions that would allow them to gather necessary information to facilitate various objectives. For example, Duras , a senior officer within the Klingon fleet accepted the commanding officer's position at a backwater outpost to provide himself with a cover for his activities as an operative of Omega. Certain senior operatives were given quantum communications devices that were completely untraceable, and thus could communicate directly with headquarters as required while other operatives were sent out to complete certain assignments. Additionally, many of the Vulcan slaves who worked as servants to highly placed officials of the Alliance manipulated them through telepathic contact when required.

Technology [ ]

Memory Omega had access to numerous types of advanced technology (reportedly culled from various parallel universes). These included but not necessarily limited to:

  • Genesis terraforming technology
  • Advances in shields and directed energy weapons
  • The formation of artificial wormholes for the transportation of a ship or fleet over great distances. These were commonly known as jaunt drives.
  • Stealth suits for covert agents
  • Advanced automated repair drones
  • Advancements in ship design
  • Subspace transporters

Leadership [ ]

Memory Omega was overseen by a person with the simple title of Director. The only known Directors, apart from Spock, were T'Prynn and Saavik . Any other leadership or command structure is not known.

Other facts [ ]

Memory Omega built their own fleet of advanced starships equipped with advanced technologies mentioned above. By extension, the organization's fleet had a command structure identical to that of the mainstream universe's Starfleet. The agency continued operations after the end of the war and the formation of the Galactic Commonwealth .

President Shaham Attends Holiday Rally President Ariel Shaham and members of his family attended the Hanukha celebrations at the city's central Cultural Square last night, making no speeches but enjoying the shows and presentations from Hanukha observances around the full spectra of Jewish backgrounds and traditions. The event was opened by the President's brother-in-law, Israel Avitan, who is also the co-founder of the College of Theology and Philosophy in Neve Jerusalem. At a press conference earlier today, President Shaham had openly mentioned the prospects of a trade package mentioned by Kai Delaan of Bajor, calling the offer "a respectable offer from a friend" and not an acceptance of economic vassalage to the Bajorans, as critics called it. "The Hegemony of New Israel will gratefully accept this help in the spirit in which it is offered-- assistance among peers, who share in common struggles." President Shaham also pointed out recent increases in trade and consulates between the HoNI and Bajor, and mentioned the dedication both realms have to freedom, peace, and liberty. "This will go a long way towards improving ties with both factions," Shaham said. Result: General-President Shaham plans to send trade mission to Bajor, improve ties and contacts. *** In Other News: Hapoel Tel-Aviv Sweeps Defending Macabee-Haifa From Field in Amazing 6-0 Upset The favored defenders of last years football crown, Maccabbee-Haifa, are already out of the running for this year's playoffs, announced Hapoel Tel-Aviv coach Micha "Max" Gordon. "It was tragic," Gordon revealed in a post-game interview, "When their star center, Eyal Kolodzies, sprung his ankle in training last week, it took the wind out of their offense," Gordon theorized, "And for Haifa, offense was everything. Their goalie was a new guy, fresh out of training camp." The victorious Tel-Aviv team, from New Jericho, will finish planetary playoffs next week against the Neve Arad Union team before entering general playoffs. Kline subconsciouly clucked his tongue at the memories of the more conservative ministers, especially representatives of the noiseome Torah United, who felt that the HoNI's best tool to survive in the increasingly volatile galaxy was to remain small, hidden, out of the way and forgotten. "When we are in full sight of the goy, it becomes a gunsight, and the target is marked on the backs of the Jews," remarked one of them, to resounding catcalls on the Knesset floor. But Kline had brushed them off. The expansion into the Egud System was a long since done deal. The Bajorans that lived there had gratefully accepted HoNI citizenship and protection, and become willing members of the colonization program. The planet was the most minerologically barren of all the HoNI's new acquisitions. It held the least promise for any truly self-actualizing colonial potential. It could, however, support several dozen mock cities, planned out to great details, and countless small farms and villages. Robots and holograms populated these built-up areas, some carrying out daily routines; some willing to engage in hostility or cooperation with various forces that entered the zones. An entire planet, open for as close to 100% realistic combat simulator training as was possible in the Galaxy. There was one island continent set aside as a housing area for soldiers and technicians living on the world; it alone was off limits. The rest was a free fire zone as designated by theater commanders. A few Israeli units would run simulations through it to see if it was operational... But on 1 January, 2400, Har-Megiddo would be available to any who wanted to train to the utmost-- and for the most modest of fees for using the facilities, it was hoped to be a big hit. Result: Military training world for ISDF soon to open; other factions may negotiate for participation. ***

Israeli Starship Har'Tzion , en route between Neve Tikvah and Neve Egud: Captain Yael Shaham looked up from her datapad and examined the approach vector for their insertion to Neve Egud orbital control. Ahead of them now was a stacked-up fleet of container vessels and a pair of the newer Peregrine -class Fighters; smaller than her own Ambassador -class Cruiser but far more versatile. Captain Shaham had never married, so it was impossible to hide her ties as the sister of the man who now controlled the Hegemony of New Israel-- and considering that she sat on the bridge of the most powerful ship in the entire HoNI navy, their one and only Ambassador class Cruiser, there was plenty of other reason to guess that she had an inside track in the capital. She hated, sometimes, being the sister of the most powerful man in the Hegomony, if only because it was always assumed that any success she earned or enjoyed was achieved not through her own efforts, but through his patronage. So in a way her mission to Bajor was an effort to get out for awhile and meet people who did not question her ability and to be just a regular starship commander...and she also had two other things to look forward to when docking at Neve Egud, or "New Unity" as it was called in the Common Trade Tongue. One was escort duty for two HoNI container ships and an outbound Bajoran megatanker, which would be a slow mover while it built up velocity while lugging several hundred million tonnes of various raw materials. The other was her nephew, Army Captain Yonatan Avitan, who was eagerly looking forward to meeting his adventurous aunt again after many years of not being in contact. A freshly-minted Company Commander, Yonatan would be among the battalion that would be shipping with them to parts unknown. Yael had been daydreaming; she was snapped back into the here and now by the alert for warp emergence. The stars before her blueshifted on the monitor, and a fast active scan lit up the area and the various IFF transponders extended their electronic handshakes to one another. "A full region," the scann-ops officer muttered, "Commandress, we have close to seventy-eight ships in the vicinity, including two other Frigates of the David class and six Scimitar -class. Most vessels are of foreign registry." Yael Shaham smiled at this. Her brother's insistence that trade was to be the lifeblood of the Hegemony, rather than bellicose militarism, was paying off handsomely already. The Ferengi had easily nine bulk containers in orbit around New Unity, which had become the primary trade point in the revitalized HoNI. The Bajoran magatanker she was to rendezvous with was in orbit, while four more Trill transports were just clearing for permision to approach. "Send them our greetings and transmission codes, and link with the Khamor Levan and the Sheba and let them know we will be forming up in about six hours," she instructed. The ISV Har'Tzion cleared orbital control and slipped into the military lane. "Commander Katz, you have the con," she announced, giving up her chair for her Executive Officer. She strode to the Transporter room and waited patiently, examining thelists of all the things they would be loading up in preparation for their journey. The Deck Chief was irritated that the Captain was 'looking over his shoulder' but ignored the situation and waited as the Transporter linked with its dirtside companion. The characteristic blue glow of the Transporter was interrupted by the emergence of several troops, led by a Colonel, who should be- "Colonel Josef Anfar," the Deck Oficer announced as soon as the bo'sun blew his whistle. The Colonel left his Sergant-Major in charge of the troops formations while introducing himself and his XO to Captain Shaham and received permission to come aboard. "I must say, I had not expected the Captain to meet me here him-- herself," the Colonel said, correcting himself. Yael smiled as they shook hands. "I admit my curiosity, Colonel, I have never travled with the Army aboard," she explained, which was true. The Israeli military had not deployed as a combined force for a long time, and certainly not outside the borders of the HoNI itself. "I was told to make sure that there was plenty of beer aboard, though," she added with a knowing smile. "The Army runs on two things-- fusion coils and Maccabee," the Colonel joked. Captain Shaham appreciated the humor. "Well, I can be sure that we will not have fusion coils served in the Captain's Mess tonight," she assured them, "but I am sure we can find a few bottles of Maccabee, if you and your officers would like to join me and mine." "We would be delighted," the Colonel replied. Behind them, the troops had filed in and were now taking charge of the grav pallets that were coming through the Transporter behind them. A Battalion of Light Infantry. At least there won't be too many vehicles to clutter up the bays , Yael thought. She gave them the time and location and they exchanged salutes whle the Army officers went to work. She saw Yonatan but her nephew was busy; rather than make things awkward for him she decided to wait, and went on to check the status of the Load Handler who assured her that the extra supplies they had would not be in the way of the military equipment that would be coming aboard. Captain Shaham was micromanaging and she knew it, so she made her way back to the bridge. Nervous, is all , she figured, and mentally kicked herself for letting her professionalism slip. It was to be the HoNI's first real outside mission in years. After escorting the merchants to the Bajor, they were to safeguard them to further waypoints at the Trill Confederacy before returning to the HoNI. Not that there had been any threats or piracy, of course. Not at all. But better to have a Starship and not need it than to need a Starship and not have it. And Yael's Har' Tzion was to be that Starship, and her nephew and those Army troops below were to provide backup if needed dirtside-- or to repel boarders, if it came to that. She couldn't see anyone, certainly no pirates, being foolish enough to attack a top-of-the-line Israeli Starship... ... but again, if there was one thing the Jews had learned, it was Better Safe Than Not. Epsilon Eridani II, Nova California The year dawned bright, the warm light of Epsilon Eridani summer bathing the Presidential Residence in a soft orange glow. As the rest of the city woke, the President of the Republic was already at his desk. "So, what's the word from Daystrom?" Macintyre asked. "Well, we've got the Navy out-system on long-range impulse training, but they're reporting viable warp fields. They've also picked up these." The Secretary of Defense tossed Macintyre a padd. "The Vista colony. They made it." "Vista? That's only...ten light-years out, maybe less. Ten thousand or so people?" "Fifteen thousand, sir. More than that, Vista is a perfect Class M planet. The prewar soil samples revealed...staggering fertility. Terran stock thrives there." "Vista was under our defense envelope. Was there anything there when the bombs went?" "A Steamrunner, on outsystem colonial defense. We don't know what's staggered in since then." Mcintyre looked at the star chart posted on the East Wall. "Get the Fleet exploring. I want a twenty-lightyear border set up. Start getting the newest ships in the Boneyard through the yards. Maintain subspace silence for now- I don't want anyone coming for us. Get...oh, send a battlegroup to the Vista System. I want them in the Republic." *Epsilon Eridani consolidates a 20-ly 'security zone'. - Vista The colonists had evidently done well. Their Steamrunner was still intact, and even manned; it hailed the Constitution-class Shrike with an old Starfleet code. Shrike and her trio of escorting Mirandas hailed back. "This is Vista space command. We're glad to see you...but, why is your transponder saying 'Republic of Eridani'?" The fleet commander answered through a dark chuckle and a thick Russian accent. "Because the Federation abandoned us. Put your leaders on this channel. We have much to discuss." RNS Enterprise-F , Epsilon Eridani "We've got motion at the Woodpile! Ferengi warp signature!" The Excelsior-class cruiser came around in an instant, heading for a tangle of old warp hardware. Fool's salvage in old times, now precious. Geronimo was also closing, feeding data to Enterprise . A horseshoe-shaped Ferengi Marauder came onscreen, bright orange paint gleaming. When the Republic ships appeared, the Daimon pulled away and began charging his warp drive- he'd sold his antimatter reactor long ago, and now relied on fusion technology for power- but his pursuers were orders of magnitude faster. Standard Republic policy was to capture any intruders. The Ferengi was no exception. A pair of phaser bolts left the ship adrift. Marines swarmed aboard in their armored shuttles. The Ferengi were slaughtered or captured. The Daimon was taken alive. He would go to Intelligence for obvious reasons. The rest of the crew- those who survived- were placed in their ship, restrained, and left with a warning. No trespassing! Vista "Governor, I am Admiral Raimus Antonov. By order of the President, this colony is to be joined with the Republic for mutual security. I am here to effect that annexation." The planetary government was scared. "We...we can't. We are an independent nation! Why...we're tiny! We have no fleet, no industry! We're a peaceful nation. You can't do this!" Antnov smiled. "On the contrary, I can. You have one week. I am transitting the history and law of the Republic. We will establish ourselves together." *Republic annexes Vista System. Haven Colony This world was much larger, thirty million colonists and a half-dozen old Sabers. Here, the Challenger and the four Freedoms in escort came more peacefully, establishing contact easily, asking for information. All this was inside the twenty light-year range. An old battle site was found and scouted, but for now, the Fleet was busy. 1x Constitution-2 enters refit from Boneyard Republic gears up for colonization of Vista. Republic football season starts. Tomed Star System The Warbird Blackhawk swung through the gittering embers of its prey, the harsh cold of space extinguishing the flames of the vanquished in callous contempt. Space a cruel master to the helpless, and right not the garrison at Tomed was completely without hope or a future. It had been a grand experiment, a noble attempt to foster unity between the former Federation and Romulan Empire. Decades ago it had been the scene of a pitched battle between Starfleet and the Imperial Navy, the end result had pushed Romulus into a long isolation. After Omega the Romulan Garrison had bee aided by Federation ships isolated from their homes. Forced to work together they had built a united community, Romulan and Federation working together. Those Starfleet vessels were now gone, four hollowed wrecks drifting away. The Valdore class cruiser swept around on one last run, disruptors picking off the last sealed air pockets on a shattered Miranda sending its last surviving crew into the afterlife of their choice. Its job done the Warbird made a pass over the garrison itself, a final torpedo volley leveling the hard wearing setlement of both human and Romulan lives. His job done, Commander Ralven ordered a channel opened to command. "Admiralty, this is strike One, Tomed system secure." "Understood." A female voice replied. "Hold station until the new garrison arrives. Admiralty out." With a nod to the tactical officer the warbird faded back into the nothingness it had erupted from five minutes earlier. Romulan Senate Tal'aura watched the ragged clouds, tattered scraps of white fleeing from the arc of the sun. From her balcony she had a perfect view out across the harbour and had often taken to standing here. The view calmed her, brought serenity, and that allowed her to think. "Empress?" a voice spoke in respectful tones. Since the fall Praetor Tal'aura had assumed the post of Empress after deposing the last Royal Family, they had proven both short sighted and weak. The people wanted someone to blame for Romulan failures, and lynching the Imperial family certainly helped. When she had taken that role she apointed a new Paetor, a man of trust both skilled in diplomacy, combat and naturally subterfuge. "Praetor Tomalak, what news?" "Report from the strike team Empress." Even in low voice his words still carried far. "Tomed is ours." "Excellent." Tal'aura broke a smile. "And the colonists?" "The Federation invaders and the Romulan traitors who joined them are all removed. It is free for recolonisation." She stepped away from the balcony and back into the senate, the circular room currently empty. "Tomed is vital to securing our pre-fall border with Starfleet. We will handle Nimbus III next and make inroads towards Khitomer to hold the Klingon territories at bay." "As you will Empress." "The Romulan people must hold our borders strongly, defend our former territories and wrestle back law and order." Tomalak nodded. "Of course Empress." "To become what we once were, we must destroy what we have become. Divided, weak, greedy. Each world falling to anarchy and rule of local warlords. It ends now." "It took many ships and lives to bring the Remans back to heel." "Indeed Praetor, but it is done now." Tal'aura nodded. "We can look outwards." "A great day for the Romulans." Tomalak announced loudly. "The first step back." "The first step." Tal'aura approved. "Written in blood, as it always will be." "Admiral Donatra expects little resistance, the break away worlds are divided, small, most have no ships." "Good. If they remain loyal they will retrn to us and our rule." Tal'aura said. "if not… well, Tomed showed that. That will be all Praetor." Tomalak bowed and left the chamber allowing Tal'aura to return to her balcony. The shredded clouds reminded her somewhat of ghosts, and many ghosts had been made today on her word. Many would yet be made, for that was the price the galaxy had to pay so Romulus grew strong. She doubted many would find that notion a fair trade, but the galaxy was just what it was, not what was fair. The blazing sun crossed the sky in a long languid arc like a quietly falling deity, while lightyears away the last flames of a quietly falling starship burnt out leaving a cold void in its place. Tal'aura felt a mild chill, but did not particularly care. She would do what was necessary and damn the consequences. Actions Tomed system reclaimed by Romulus

Khitomer "Are you sure? Warp drive works now?" Emperor Rodek asked the Vulcan advisor. Years ago a Vulcan science ship had come to the system and Rodek had offered them a place in the new Empire, over some protests of the old guard. The Vulcans had far better training than Klingons when it came to science so Rodek had made sure he found a place for them. "We're sure Emperor. We're already have normal warp traffic to and from Narendra as well as the minor systems in the rest of the Empire. There is no reason to believe the whole Alpha and Beta Quadrant is any different." "Hmm...thank you J'wok. Keep me updated." The Vulcan nodded and left the room. Rodek turned to his closer advisor Alexander. A Klingon raised by humans he was the model on which Rodek wanted to build the new Empire. A Klingon who was a feared warrior and honourable but was no blinded by rage and mindless devotion to war. "If warp is possible now I wonder if we'll get a visit from Qo'noS." Rodek shock his head. "I'd be surprised if Qo'noS was still around. Given that we had a few fights between ourselves I'd hate to think what happened there with all of the Houses trying to gain power." "Should we send a ship there? Find out what happened?" "No, not yet. If there's a chance someone did regain power there they might not be too happy to know what we were doing here. No instead we should send a force to Rura Penthe. We need to gain control over the dilithium mines there." "By now the prisoners have taken control, if there's alone left alive. Might not like us showing up." "No without regular food shipments all the prisoners should be dead by now. We'll need to recruit miners to work until we can find some...replacement labour. Once we have control of Rura Penthe we can look to expanding our resources. I want to spread the word of my revolation to our Klingon borthers and sisters. Also it might be worth it to see what shape the Federation is in...not to mention the Romulans." Actions: Small fleet sent to Rura Penthe

EARTH President Fraiser sat behind her desk and listened intently to the two military officers in front of her. "So we do have warp travel again? It has been proved?" The man wearing the uniform and rank pips of a Starfleet Admiral nodded. "Yes Ma'm." Admiral Walker said. "It was confirmed by a test run between here and our Vulcan Friends." Fraiser nodded and stood, looking out a window on to the grounds of what was once one of the palaces of the British Royal Family. "So what plans do we have for this situation, Gentleman?" General Fillingham stepped forward gesturing at a PADD on the President's desk. "As the report you recieved earlier states all Marine Forces have been placed on alert. We've also stepped up training. We can't hold this posture for long, but it will help deter any oppurtunists." Fraiser nodded then glanced over at the Starfleet Admiral. "And what would Starfleet like to do Admiral Walker?" Admiral Walker called up a map of part of the galaxy. The Sol System glowed brightly in the middle of the map. Working the LCARS system for a moment he drew a bright circle of blue around the Sol System. "Madam President Starfleet has three goals that we would like to undertake. The first goal is to secure the ten lightyear border called for by the Sol Federation Council. We would dispatch 1st Fleet to carry out that task, while 2nd Fleet remains as our Home Fleet." He Called up a list of ships in both fleets, and placed it on the display in a corner of the map. "We would rotate ships between the two fleets in order to give them experience with warp travel. For the most part our Senior NCOs and Senior Officers are experinced from the UFP Starfleet. On the other hand many of our junior officers and enlisted are new, recurited since the Omega Protocol." The Admiral procceded to trace out two winding paths away from the Sol System. "We would like to dispatch our Exploration Groups along these routes. The 1st Exploration group would make it's way out towards Bajor. There goals would be to make contact with other governments, and investigate the wormhole. It is a matter of high importance to us to investigate what has happened to the Dominion these past years." He pointed to the second path. "The Second Exploration Group will be explore around the old core worlds of the Federation. Making contact and seeing what has happened while warp travel was impossible." President Fraiser thought for several moments before nodding. "Alright your plans have a go from me. Begin to carry them out at once." She sighed and looked at the floor. "I want to start making diplomatic efforts as early as possible. We are fairly friendly with the Vulcans. But we are going to need more allies than that most likely." She shook her head and continued. "I don't need to tell you that many places could view us as the successors to the United Federation of Planets, and view with distate. On the other hand we are in some ways that would be true." The two officers solemnly saluted and left the office, there was much work to be done. Results: -Sol Federation establishs a 10LY border. -2nd Fleet is assigned to Patrol the 10LY Zone. -1st Fleet is assinged as Home Fleet -1st Exploration Group will head in the direction of Bajor and HONI. -2nd Exploration Group will explore the old core worlds of the UFP.

Pan-Trill Herald Headlines 18 Dec 2399 Symbiote Research stepped up. The symbiosis commission has finally approved research on the life cycle of the symbiotes, albeit under tightly controlled conditions. This comes after pressure for the government to attempt to increase the number of Joined in the Commonwealth. A goal only attainable with a larger breeding population of wild symbiotes. Several comments from scientists praise the decision to learn more of our ancient partners. Return to Warp It's now offical, warp travel has returned. Tests by the Starforce have shown that the Omega effect has finally worn off. This is no surprise to many as Trill merchants have been leaving the system to trade with other star for a while now, however this recognition mean that large scale expansion is now a possibliity. Intra System travel is set to improve as the ban on warp travel is lifted. This promises to be a massive boon to the systems economy. One to hopefully coincide with a new age. The Government yesterday authorised an expedition to the pre-Omega sites of Trill colonies in order to find out the fates of our lost cousins. At the same time the President increased the defence budget and started up production of several new defence project on major worlds. Action- -Construction started: Planetary Shield (Trill6), 1 Planetary Defence Phaser each on Trill3 and 4. -Patrols increase. -1 Constellation (CSV Stargazer) and 1 Norway (CSV Russ) head out system to investigate old Trill colonies.

ISV Har' Tzion Bajor Diplomatic Port of Call 20 December 2399 Captain Yael Shaham examined her uniform again-- the formal dress blacks were spotless, of course, with brass and braid all lined up appropriately. The ISDF uniforms in general were simple, with little gaudy embellishment. Indeed, compared to some cultures, the ISDF uniforms seemed almost bland. But they adequately summed up an officer's career, and here Yael had done well for someone in a largely peacetime military. The ship itself had won an award for action against pirates; this ship award was worn by all crewers on their ceremonial uniforms, a modest starburst design on the right breast pocket. Over the top of the left breast pocket was her personal awards, four total, and that was on the high end of average in a military that was stingy with medals. A colored patch on the left shoulder denoted ship; some white braid on the right advertised that she was the Captain of said ship. Her rank was on the shoulderboards, a simple silver pin on each. The Navy uniforms themselves were the same as the Starfleet wartime uniforms; black over muted greys and service colors. The comm badges were similar, as well, a gold stylized arrowhead pointing up, Enterprise -style, with a similar one pointing down, rendered as a silver backing. It formed a highly stylized Star of David, meant to be inspiring but which was typically regarded with some humor by most in the ISDF Navy. The Transporter pad held Yael, Colonel Josef Anfar, her nephew Captain Yonatan Avitan, and the four Soldiers that acted as honor guard. All of them were fidgeting in their rarely-worn dress uniforms. Behind them, in civilian clothes, came the Hegemony of New Israel's first new foreign Ambassador, his entourage and family... and the three hand-picked members of the Press. Yael grimaced, but succumbed to the inevitable. The momentary transporter sensation hummed through them, a brief moment of weightless exhileration for Yael. Revealed to them as they materialized was a small, clean marble government hall that was probably fancier than what the usual combat or freight captains saw. And there to meet them was-- "First Minister Kira Nirys, I presume?" she asked in Bajoran, being proficient with the language since grade school. The older, yet still graceful woman stood out from among her own entourage-- she wore long robes and a the stereotypical Bajoran erring, and her face, beaming diplomatically, was graced with lines that bespoke decades of hard service endured with dignity. She dressed so stereotypical to Yael's expectations of a Bajoran government official that she wondered, briefly, if she'd stepped into a holoshow set. "Welcome, welcome," First Minister Kira said, quckly pressing her hand to hers and almost as quickly drawing away, to warmly greet Colonel Anfar, who returned the Minister's greetings in passable Bajoran of his own. "You are indeed welcome to the territory of Bajor." She seemed tickled by the use of native Bajoran, even though she responded in Trade Common. Yael and Yonatan spared a glance at the others in the room; the functionaries were dismissed from thought but the Bajoran Militia guards were appraising the Israeli troops while trying to appear neutral. "We are honored to be in the prescence of such an esteemed member of the Bajoran government," Yael introduced the diplomats as they emerged from Transport, and again First Minister Kira repeated her ritual, giving brief yet warm greetings to the Ambassador and his wife, son and daughter, while warming to the ground forces soldiers. Ambassador Hanan Nabulsi, himself a Mizrachi Jew of Persian descent, took things from there and allowed Yael to breathe a sigh of relief. Nabulsi's Bajoran was only excellent, and he was able to switch between that as well as his native Hebrew or Trade English, a fact which seemed to delight First Minister Kira no end. "Please, by all means," Kira assured them all, "You must dine with me tonight, at my modest home. I only hope that my humble surroundings can accomodate you in the manners in which you are deserving," she said, almost laughing out her words. Ambassador Nabulsi- for it was now cleanly in his hands, Yael was relived to know, accepted graciously. Dinner was not long in coming; Yael found out that the time-coordination between her ship and the Bajoran local standard had not been exact. The officers and diplomatic entourage were escorted to the private quarters of the First Minister while the press and honor guard were invited to an adjascent dining hall. Dinner was an elegant affair; pita with hoummous and t'khina whetted their appettites, and toasts --with the finest Bajoran red wine, Yael noted-- were given to the healths of the respective leaders, and to the vitality of the respective realms. Later, after a great deal of delicious temptations-- most of which Yael remembered from her own home, being Mizrachit herself-- a great roast Bajoran lamb was produced. Yael also noticed that, shrewedly, no dairy products had been introduced to interfere with the enjoyment of the meat. Later, over some of the most powerfully tasty (and sweet) coffee Yael had ever had the pleasure of enjoying, the Ambassadors began their curious banter. "No, I must admit that the Emissary of the Prophets, may peace be upon him-- has never been heard from again," First Minister Kira admitted, pausing to reflect. The pain and sadness of loss and the crush of memories was evident on her face, and some of the lines on her visage crinckled in what appeared to be familiar patterns. She thought about it alot, apparantly, as near as Yael could tell. "It is something that both honors and saddens us," Kira said, "To know that the Will of the Prophets has exacted such a high toll." The group was silent for a moment, in silent respectful memory of Captain Ben Sisko. "Your... Hegemony," Kira said, breaking the silence and changing the subject, "You have done well for yourselves, maintaining the integrity of your borders in a hostile and difficultcorner of the galaxy," she said, with a direct look at Nabulsi, "Including in the face of some rather implacable foes." Nabulsi nodded; the entire HoNI had been trampled during much of the Dominion War while still managing to hold together. "One can presume that the forces of the Hegemony of New Israel to be a highly capable and well-equipped fighting force, worthy of great admiration in the face of such odds." "We manage," Nabulsi smiled, already calculating in his head the final expectations. He had been authorized a fairly standard package of deals that could be negotiated over. This was certainly among them. "Perhaps we can share the wealth of our knowledge," he replied, as if coming to a revelation of his own. "I am certain that the New Israel government and forces would be pleased to assist in any powerplant or weapons systems modifications that could assist you in dealing with your own minor border irritants." "All these things will require formalizations, of course," First Minister Kira said neutrally, "But we would be happy to respond in kind." "Of course," Nabulsi replied, toasting with his coffee. Yael blinked. Did what I think just happened... happen? she wondered. Apparantly it had, and she was still mulling over diplomacy and its intricaies when she was able to return to her own cabin, in her own comfortable uniform, and her own red wine. Now that would be a proper way to toast a deal. Results: HoNI and Bajor begin steps towards mutual cooperation, trade, and possible military tech sharing. *** *** *** *** *** *** 'Negev' Frontier Sector Egud System Frontier Torah United was a vigorous bliever in the concept of 'Promised Land', and while the theological basis for the idea had taken a severe blow following the destruction of Earth, the philosophical and social basis remained intact. Rabbi Weissfeld-- the spiritual leader of the right-wing party, ironically both expansionist and isolationist at the same time-- was a driving force in the political party's social programs. Religious schools and yeshivot , or Torah schools, were funded and run primarily by the ultra-Orthodox movement and volunteers within. They also co-sponsored, with government help, numerous religious fighting battalions within the ISDF, made up of Torah student-soldiers, and Nahal Pioneer battalions. When a new world came under HoNI jurisdiction, Torah United was there to fund settlements. Even tiny outpost settlements of 50 people were sponsored on any Israeli world simply so a prescence could be established. The 'Negev' sector, where the Egud System and Empak Nor was located, was no exception. But they were not the only aggressive expansionists: the 'Yisrael b'Aliyah' party was also active, and took in numerous new colonists in the Negev sector as well as the 'Golani' sector, the more established ha'Bimah System and the rich belt of asteroids there. Behind both groups came the Greens party, actively promoting settlements harmonious with nature. Even though the population of the Hegemony of New Israel was small, compared to its territorial size, worlds filled quickly with small settlements and Kibbutzim. Everywhere Israelis went, the ISDF established a prescence-- patrolling the new borders and setting frontier beacons. The swath of territory between the HoNI Core and the border was quickly filled with claims. It was the intent of these groups-- subtley encouraged and at times even funded by the government-- to ensure that no one would ever be able to move into Israeli territory in feigned ignorance. And patrols by the ISDF-- sometimes even if only a revenue cutter-- maintained vigilance over that territory. HoNI's territory was something they had fought hard to win, and almost lost. The Dominion War had shown no respect for their borders, but now, after the Omega Protocol and the loss of the great fleets of empires past, the playing field was now more even. It was an ugly truth that the Omega Protocol, seen by many in the rest of the galaxy as a horrible toll to pay for security, was one of the best things that could have happened for the Hegemony. The HoNI only had 6 systems, but they were going to guard and treasure those 6 systems and develop them as best they could. ISDF engages in aggressive border patrols to keep their territory while many motivated groups stake claims within. ***

Breen Homeworld - Night The abundant temperate forest extended far out as the eyes could see and it seemed like everlasting. The shuttle roared over the forest, skimming near the treetops, and its direction was toward a large city in the horizon. About few hundreds of the beautiful, elegant, and asymmetrical skyscrapers rose out of the forest's horizon as the shuttle rapidly closed on the city, the towering buildings were lit up with bright white beams that reach ten thousand meters upwardly. It was simply very magnificent for the pilot and six passengers to behold. "I hope you enjoyed a tour of one of my home's natural scenes." Thot Kar, the Breen equalivant of president, turned and asked a Vorta standing next to him who was admiring the scenic view. Kelevon, one of many surviving Vortas remaining on the Breen homeworld, nodded with a pleasing smile. Like many of the Vortas, he was stranded when the subspace fabric was damaged by the Omega practical and their Jem'hadars died afterward from lack of ketracel-white. He was quick to adapt to living on the alien world without supervisor of their gods, the Founders. "It is certainly pleasant place like the Founders' homeworld. Warm and lush. So yes, I did have a magnificent time seeing more of your world and I am honored." Thot Kar nodded and replied. "Does it remind of your home?" The Vorta turned his head toward Thot Kar who was not wearing encounter suit and helmet. It was a surprising development for him when the Breens hesitantly revealed themselves to him after years of living among them. All Kelevon saw was a human-like male face with a few differences that set them apart from the humans - fierce golden eyes and few others. "In a way, yes. Unfortunately, due to my genetic programming I am not supposed to have an attraction to the home planet or everything but only to our gods." Kelevon replied with piercing gray eyes staring out at the cockpit window. He knew there was no Founders on the Breen homeworld when this disaster occurred which was indeed a regrettable situtation for him. The Breen intelligence also knew this fact after they searched every inch of the planet and found nothing. "We are approaching the city." The shuttle pilot announced. "Good, almost there." Thot Kor nodded before turning to the Vorta and smiled. "Well, this concludes the tour and I am pleased that you enjoyed this occasion." "Shuttle Four-Zero-Three-Three." The city's ground control called out. "You are cleared to approach the sector zero and they are expecting you." "Affirmative, I have set our course on the sector zero." The shuttle pilot responded and quickly keyed in his navigation control. The shuttle began to climb up to descend toward the sector zero on a pre-determined course. It glided between the skyscrapers and a heavy traffic of the flying crafts on descending course before touching down on one of the military headquarters' landing pads. The armored marines snapped to the attention as the passengers with importance status stepped off the shuttle and saluted the visitors as they walked down the corridor toward an enormous building. Thot Kor gestured the Vorta toward the building. "Kelevon, come with me because there is something that I want to confer with you." Near the edge of Seso'Bok System A trio of the Breen warships drifted speedily with their engines baffle, thus effectively masking the engine emissions from the prying sensors, with the momentum carrying them forward. The Breen government had decided to dispatch a strike cruiser and pair of attack frigates to monitor the Seso'Bok System one of Breen's largest colonies before the Omega Protocol was initiated during the final days of previous war. The reason why that particular system was a great interest to the Breen Confederation was that it had a population of almost two hundred eighty-two million colonists with a great deal of industrial capabilities particularly dilithium mining, one of powerful economic engines that propelled this world into a very prosperous colony. Indeed, this world would make a great asset to invigorate the Breen Confederation's future expansionism and an ambitious desire to restore old glory of the Breen power. However, it turned out to be different when the long-range sensors of BNV Thakra Gos, a strike cruiser, told them something they needed to know about this system. They detected a half dozen of the starships orbiting the colony, both Breen and Dominion origins, the latter ones were no doubt fully manned by Breen personnel since the Jem'hadars would had been dead by now from lack of the white supplies. Long ahead of trio warships were two Jem'hadar raiders and four Gos Lak-class frigates, and they were indeed a formidable force for defense enough to deter any alien pirates or intruders. The Breen Confederation took a prudent precaution as they already devised a contingency plan for this situation. A fleet of dozen warships had been gathered, briefed, and massed a quarter of light-year away from the targeted system as they await a further instruction from a scout party. They would outnumber the planet's defenders by two to one. It would take a single transmission from the scout party for them to surge into the high orbit, readied to engage these defending vessels if necessary, with the scout party joining them at once. "The opposing force, I want info on their current deployment stat." Rosuk Throk, the captain of BNV Thakra Gos and command of the operation glanced at the sensor station. The sensor officer was quickly to answer her superior officer's question. "They are shattered all around the Damoka's high orbit, divided into three groups with two vessels per group. The sensors are also picking up a field of debris, the origin is unknown until we take a close scan. " "We have to discourage them from engaging us with the show of numerical superiority." The captain said as he turned to his first officer standing. "They want this place intact with minimal or no losses. In my opinion, it is very unlikely for them to proactively engage their own people without a reason." "I concur; these colonists had been isolated from the outside like rest of us when the Omega Protocol was initiated." The first officer remarked as he stared at the sensor readout. "They want to get back to the normalcy like as any ordinary Breen." Rosuk nodded and snapped off an order. "Give our reinforcement a call, we go ahead now." The burst transmission was sent out in the direction of reinforcement fleet, informing the commander of a small fleet that the green light had been given for them to warp into the system. Within a half minute, a small fleet flashed out as they activated their warp drives heading toward the Damoka planet. It did not take long for the scout party to join the small fleet in warp travel as the reinforcement passed their location. There was no doubt that the defenders were startled by their sensor readouts showing a small fleet of fifteen vessels dropped out of the warp near their home planet, and what surprised them even more was that all of these vessels were Breen in the design. The colony's defending vessels warily turned their bearing at the newcomers heading toward their location with the weapons powering up although they refrained themselves from locking on these unannounced visitors. Of course, a small fleet did same thing out of consideration for their own fellow people, showing them they meant no harm. "Sir, I am picking up a flurry of transmissions between the defenders and the main settlement." The sensor officer announced the sensor readout. The first officer tilted his head toward captain with a hint of amusement. "I am very certain that they are surprised to see other Breen vessels showing up at their backyard since… twenty-four years ago." The sensor officer stared at the monitor with a surprise looking on her face as she backed away slowly and glanced at her commander. "Something is wrong. I am picking up multiple craters all over the Damoka's surface and one hundred forty-four million life forms." "What? One hundred forty-six million colonists instead of more than two hundred eighty million people, what the hell had happened here?" Rusok almost yelled as he noticed the craters on Damoka's surface on holo-screen. He was surprised and confused as anyone on the bridge. "The follow-on scan shows these craters are recent, no more than two weeks old." The sensor officer announced to the bridge. "The age of these craters also match the debris field, it's a mixture of Breen, Dominion, and Orion origin." "They are hailing us." The communication officer said with cool professialism. "It's coming from the surface." Rusok gestured him to activate the holographic screen ahead of them "Open the channel." The holographic screen flickered into life displaying the leader of the colony sitting with clear courtesy although he was weary inside. He spoke calmly with a hint of cautious. "This is Zokor Qu'rok, the governor of Damoka, speaking to whoever in the command of the fleet." He paused with a stunned looking on his face as he noticed Breen faces on the display. "What is your intention here? Please, we wish no ills toward you but I kindly request that the fleet of your powers down the weaponry. Our ships will do same once you agree to this request." It took a moment for Rusok to consider the request before responding to the governor who had been extremely patient with him. The honesty was greatly preferred in the Breen society when dealing with important matters. "Alright, I am ordering my fleet to stand down. Our intention was to asset if your world survived the collapse of the subspace fabric and bring your world back into the Breen Confederation." He paused for few seconds before continuing, "Well, would you clarify me what happened down there?" "We had been attacked by a large number of the Orion Syndicate vessel before our ships beaten them off with several losses but before they retreated, they rained the death on my world. Our theater shields held against their assaults but they went after the unshielded areas." The response from the governor was swift but brutally honest. ACTIONS: - Dispatched a small fleet to Seso'Bok system, a colony of 142 million people. - Patrol increases - Construction begin - a Ghan Lak frigate (six months)

Khitomer "What did homeworld say?" Donatra asked in a mildly frustrated tone, a score of ships passing by oblivious on her viewscreen. Khitomer had not been as deserted as earlier believed but had a reasonably sized fleet in orbit. There was a good chance they could take on this fleet, but they seemed to have a number of large and well maintained vessels and the Romulans could ill afford even one ship lost at this early stage. "Admiral, we are to break off and conduct reconnaissance of the Narendra system instead." "Narendra?" "Yes Admiral, that will become our frontier with this area of space." "Very well." She accepted the orders. "What about this system?" "The Senate is sending an envoy to open contact and ascertain their threat level. Until then we are ordered to consider them neutral." "Then we shall set course for Narendra." Donatra ordered. "Maximum cloaked cruising speed, engage." Romulus. "Scout probes have found many systems in the Empire still loyal to Romulan ideals." Admiral Sela of the Tal'shiar reported to the Senate. "We are attempting contact over subspace but it is still unreliable until the after effects of Omega fully clear up." "I will authorise the deployment of scouts and small warships to make contact." The Empress decreed. "The worlds of the empire will be reunited under the ascendancy." "And if they are unwilling Empress?" Tomalak asked. "Then we will alter their perspective and encourage them to join us." Tal'aura replied. "One way or another. Dissention will not be tolerated." "Our scouts have also picked up transmissions from former Federation space, the seem to be slowly rebuilding like us and have separate powers." "Have the Tal'shiar monitor them closely." Tal'aura said. "How are the agents on Vulcan?" "Relieved to hear from us, the planet is currently suffering from an outbreak of Staffords Plague in its southern hemisphere.." Sela answered. "Many agents have found places of power in the upheaval, we are closer to reunification now then any point in our past." "Praetor," Tal'aura announced. "I want you to contact Vulcan and arrange for aid to be shipped there to combat this plague, then try to arrange some trade." "As you will Empress." "And Sela, I'd like you to take a look at Khitomer and see if they are a threat to us or whether we can reach an understanding. That is all, proceed." Actions- Admiral Sela to goes to Khitomer on diplomatic mission Romulans send aid to Vulcan. 10 Valdore and 5 D'deridex begins construction.

ISV Har' Tzion en route to Trill Space Ambassador Nabulsi had been left in good hands; the Bajorans were pleased to be in contact with someone from outside again-- even if that someone was a minor government that had not always had the best of relations with the Federation. But in that, Bajor and the HoNI had a great deal in common. Bajor's status as a Federation member was still up in the air when the Omega Protocol was effected, so that relationship, too, was going to have to be re-charted. Now the Hegemony's biggest ship, the Ambassador -class starship Har'Tzion , was on its way to the next port of call, a visit to the Trill system to see how they had fared in the post-collapse environment. It was sluggish going for Yael; at close to 40 years of age she remembered a time when Warp travel had Trill practically in the Hegemony's backyard. The younger kids on the crew, growing up after the Omega Protocol, knew nothing else-- their current speed, considered "average" in the Kirk era, was like greased lightning from their perspective. She chose not to give them a "back in my days" speech and let them ride the crest of morale they had. It was late and Captain Yael Shaham looked at her crashcup and wondered why she wasn't getting any coffee from it. She unscrewed the lid and noticed that there wasn't any left, and contemplated having a sailor get more for her. Moments later, the crashcup went sailing to the floor, no longer important. Its magnetic base immediately secured it to the deck, hence the name 'crashcup'. But Yael didn't care-- the bridge was bathed in red light as alarms sounded and a pair of unidentified ships jumped the Khamor Levan and the Sheba , just a few light minutes ahead of them. "Shields up! Weapons on my mark! Bow tubes, ready photon torpedoes! All ahead flank!" The crew had completed the orders before she'd finished saying them, and the classic saucer-hull-nacelle shape of the ISV Har' Tzion shot forward to appear in the midst of the melee. The Orion pirates-- for that was who they were-- hesistated at the sight of the starship appearing in their midst. The ship had been traveling far to the rear, and its sudden appearence gave them a moment to pause. Another tasty morsel? Or-- --the second was all the starship's gunners needed. Streams of phaser energy blossomed in a continual series of detonations as they collided with the Orions' shield energy. Fire seemed to consume the renegade vessels, and the pirates' shields began glowing red and quickly passed through the spectrum until they were white. The pirates had not survived thus far by being fools; they were more than eager to seek easier prey. Rotating their hulls to bring fresh shielding between them and their tormentor, the renegade ships prepared their jumps. "Lieutenant Steinberg! Fire at will!" Yael ordered. One torpedo from the starship spiked through the engine nacelle of one of the pirates. The other torpedo raced towards the pirates, detonating at a point between the two Orions and their shields flickered and faded. Both were excellent shots; and the results of months of training and drills on the powerful starship for precisely this sort of mission. "Approximately thirty seconds," scan officer Kenan informed them, "Then they can re-initiate their shields." "All batteries, open fire," Yael announced calmly. The phaser beams made short work of the now exposed hulls of the pirates, and the ships broke apart under the fire of the Har' Tzion . "Scan-ops?" Kenan examined the information flowing across her screens. "Six survivors," she announced, "two lifeforms in a pod, four more stuck in the aft hull," she brought up a hologram of the shattered ship in question. "Lieutenant Khalid, beam them aboard. Flight group?" she spun her chair to face Lieutenant-Commander Ehud Almog, in charge of the ship's compliment of Runabouts. He nodded his compliance and a pair of ships darted out and nimbly checked through the drifting wreckage. The wreckage posed a navigation hazard so Yael had it tagged with a beacon. Once the Runabouts were recovered, the three Hegemony vessels were underway again and Yael turned over command to her second officer while she went to meet their new 'guests'. The prisoners from the engine room were badly burned and were in sickbay under heavy guard. The two from the lifepod, however, were in the brig where they were glaring at anyone who walked in. They prisoners had apparantly tried to resist, for there were bruises on their arms and faces. Two of the Naval Security troopers carried stun cracklers. "Welcome aboard, gentlemen," Yael greeted sarcastically, for it was clear that the pirates in question were anything but gentlemen. Both were Orions; one brawny, mohawk'd individual with a variety of tattoos made a rude gesture; the other, slightly chubby one was bald but had a thick goatee thatstill had some of his previous meal in it. "I demand to be put in contact with legal representation," the chubby one said. He carried himself like an armchair commander, in pre-selected poses that he'd seen in historography holos. Yael raised a quizzical eyebrow. "You'll get all kinds of things," she promised, "A hard uncomfortable bed, something vaguely like food, and a lot of time to contemplate your defense for attempted piracy in open space." "Where'ya takin' us?" the mohawk wearer demanded. "Well, our next stop is the Trill System, where you and the memory spools of your attack will be turned over to the government there. I'm sure the Trill would be interested to know that you've been jumping ships on their approach lanes." "The Trill?" Chubby asked, "We'll get no fair trial there, they'll put us to labor in their mines!" "As opposed to--?" she challenged. Chubby looked away; Mohawk just glared. "Well, if that's the case, you have three days to contemplate your defenses, and we'll be more than happy to prepare a nice last meal for you," she said, and left to go to her quarters. "'Legal Representation' indeed," she muttered. Results: ISDF trade and contact mission chalks up successful mission to Bajor. His petition had been circulated and garnered many signatures within the Kibbutz; now he just had to sit back and wait. Well, "sit back" was an inaccurate term, really. He was doing anything but sitting back. Motti Landau was hard at work, tending to one of the kibbutz's massive agrocollective sectors. It was said that after their long-ago past, turning the Negev Desert green, the Israelis had learned to grow food on solid rock. It was a hard-earned reputation, and almost true. The soil of Oz-- Colony 42-- was a grudging, problematic partner in the terraforming and agriculture arena. But after only six years of effort, the farms were paying off and had managed to grow an abundance of food-- more than enough for the kibbutz, in fact. They had since turned to cash crops to sustain development. Cotton, hemp, rubber, and a genetically modified form of mahogany were produced on the kibbutz's various macroclImate systems; soon it was hoped that the kibbutz would make enough to build the addition to the school that would be needed if the thirty prospective families he'd heard about were to show up. But today, Motti Landau had to check on a minor system fault, a drop in water pressure near one of the mahogany sectors. The lines were buried, safe from the heat fluctuations of the hard desert's cycles through night and day. Seismic sensors had picked up a minor tremor in the area, nothing to be alarmed about-- after all, even the most pleasant of worlds still had tectonic activity-- and then the drop in pressure. Motti had an idea what had happened and had come out to check the damage. He fumbled with his enviro-suit; the air outside was still not dense enough to support breathable conditions, and it would continue to be deathly cold even when the atmosphere did manage to thicken. Safe in his portable self-contained envirosuit, he quickly went through the decomp procedures and stepped outside onto the sandy grit of the planet's desert. The opening that greeted him was not what he expected, however. Aparantly, a section of the bedrock had actually been sandstone, perhaps worn away beneath the sand by underground erosion. Something, it would not take much, had finally collapsed the artificial roof of sand that had arched over the cavern below. Good thing nobody was walking out here when it happened, Motti thought as he walked next to, but not near, the now gaping hole. But what was underneath the sand was not a hole; or rather, it was a hole but there was something odd about it. Unnatural. Few erosion caverns had the collection of straight vertical and horizontal edges that this one had. It was enough for Motti to fish out his electrobinoculars and zoom them in for a look. Below the surface of the sand there were buildings, low, squat-- and old. Edges had been worn down and wind and sand had combined to ablade away at artistic features, but there were definitely buildings under the cave-in. An odd feeling washed over Motti; a combination of surprise, awe, and some apprehension. He was looking at something that had been buried before mankind had learned fire, he realized. He looked around, and wondered how far this new discovery stretched beneath his feet. He stood there for who knew how long, but it was long enough for someone to wonder about him. "Motti?" the sharp crackle of the belt com unit sounded like a far off distraction. "Motti, are you there? Have you reached the break yet?" the voice asked. It was Liat, a woman Motti had a liking for that went unsaid. Absently, Motti picked at the comm. He would have enjoyed the opportunity to trade banter with her under normal circumstances, but this was very abnormal. "Im here, Liati," he answered in what must have been a whisper, for Liat asked for him to respond again. "I'm here, Liat," he finally said as he refocused his attention, "I've found the break, and it is... amazing," he said, realizing thaT the words would make no sense to her. "Liat," he said, "I think we need to send a message to the University." "The one that's near us? "Liat asked, puzzled, "uh, Theandra City. Ben-Gurion University," she said, curiosity in her voice. "Why, Motti?" Motti activated the holograph on the comm unit, now more in tune with his surroundings. He aimed it at the hole and zoomed on the building buried beneath it. "That's why," he replied, "I think there's a xenoarchaeology department there that might be interested in this..." he looked at her shocked face and smiled. "I... I'll place the call," she said... It's no fun if I can't trick you.

Grand Assembly Hall, Seiba, Polaris Prime Rupert Sheldon rubbed is temples as the meeting in his office went into it 4th hour. His cabinet had been debating what to do ever since they found out Warp speed had been restored. Subspace transmissions showed other factions had survived but there was no mention of the Federation. There were no report of the Dominion either though which was no small comfort to the Chancellor. Torel stood over his desk asking him again to send a ship to Qro'nos. His furrowed brow stood out from the salt and pepper in his hair. " I have a duty to my people to see what has happened to the Empire. Send a Bird of prey if you are afraid but one must be sent soon." Sheldon put his hands on his desk and stood up. " I have a duty to protect this whole system including the Klingons who call it home. I need more time to gather information. To see what happened out there before I send ships." Torel snarled, the klingons best attempt to sneer. " If I were asking for you to send a ship to Earth you would not be so reluctant." Sheldon studied the Klingon's for a second. " To not know one's enemy before a battle is to invite disaster. We must find who are still our allies before we welcome them with open arms. I will send a D13 in 2 days to scout the Klingon Empire. This way we'll both know what to tell our people." Actions: 6 D13 BOP are sent out to scout a 50ly radius area.

Ten'nar System TVS Stargazer in orbit over Ten'ar 4 The Stargazer had entered orbit of the former colony several hours ago and was still performing scans as its escort scoured the rest of the system for any signs of life. On the bridge the atmosphere was gloomy as no good news came through to them. " Captain, the last set of scans have been analysed, no lifesigns more complex then small animals detected. There are signs that someone was here recently but no-one has lived here for a very long time sir." The Science Officer Lt. Rachael Cope reported, a hint of sadness slipping through the professional face she presented. " Understood" Captain Rick Manta responded. " Just like the rest, damn it." " The damage is old captain. Likely it was a victim of the War, the Dominion didn't exactly treat the colonies nicely and they didn't have the defences or strategic value of Trill." His XO Commander Tena Hevla commented in the hopes of comforting her commander. Manta grimiest but nodded slightly none the less to the Trills comment. Of the 10 systems, only 1 had any surviving population, Yen'tea, a mid. sized colony of 2,000,000 Trills that had regressed to an agricultural society because of the damage done to it. They'd annexed it into the Commonwealth and relief ships from Trill were on the way to help. That was the success story, the other 9 were nothing but death and wreckage. A series of monuments to the devastation caused by the twin disasters of Omega and the War. The only upside was that he'd been able to find a salvageable Constitution class, along with a couple of smaller ships. Still he'd always loved the Connie, it would be good for the fleet to have one eventually. " Ops. Drop the claim marker. Helm, set course out of the system. Comms. Contact the Russ and tell them to meet up with us after they drop their claim markers. Lets get out of this graveyard." The veteran captain ordered briskly as the ship came to life around him. ****************** Trill 3 New Trisillan, Capital of the Commonwealth Presidents office. " Ok Admiral tell me what's happening out there." President Lenna Hel commented quietly as she looked across her desk at the male Trill siting opposite. " At the moment, not much. Soon… now that's another matter, with the return of Warp we're picking up hints movement across the quadrant. Thing promise to get busy very soon." Admiral Fen'matan Jar spoke professionally. " As for us, well, I've had the 3rd fleet head out and start patrolling the new systems the Stargazer has claimed, Support command reports that the few salvageable ships present will be in the Trill system in a couple of days, SCE is very excited." The Blond woman chuckled softly at that causing the military man to stop for a moment. " I've had Scott in this office only an hour ago ranting about what he could do with a 'real' ship." Lenna said with a smile. " Sounds like him. I'm sure he'll impress us. The only other point was the listening post at the edge of the system has picked up a ship on approach to Trill, I took the liberty of dispatching a ship from 4th fleet to meet them." The Admiral finished stiffly. " Good, hopeful it's a good surprise for a change, now what do you think…………" Result: - 9 Inhabitable but empty systems claimed. - 1 minor system (Yen'tea) annexed. - Stargazer TF continues mission. - 1 Constitution, 1 Steamrunner and 1 Soyuz salvaged, being towed back to Trill for repair. - 3rd Fleet starts Patrol of claimed systems, focusing on Yen'tea. - 1 Excelsior (TCV Edo) sent to meet up with HoNI vessels on route to Trill.

Rura Penthe Captain Mudj leaned back in his chair as scans from the surface. It appeared that the Emperor was right. Everyone on the mining colony was dead. Not much of a surprise really. Food shippments would have ended when warp drive became worthless. True that would have had replicators. But one couldn't feed a whole planet on repliators alone, and sooner or later they would break down. Really it made Mudj's job that much easier. The Neo-Empire would safely claim the system as their own without needing to worry about any locals protesting it. "Captain we're getting additional readings from the surface," one of the bridge crew. "Reading large amounts of dilithium...all refined." "Well no ships to pick up the normal shipments would have resulted in a surplus. Also they would have had the prisnoers working as long as possible." "Well this makes our job a lot easier. Plus we get instant benifits." This came from the young man standing beside Mudj. Not a warrior. No...an enginner. To think that a Klingon would willing give up the chance to glorious battle to build things. But it was the new way of thinking. One did not need to be a warrior to gain honour only work to getting the Empire. Part of him railed against the idea but another part acknowledged it there were improvements. Ships worked better, food was safe to eat, and he wasn't afraid to go to the doctor anymore. They had survived so he was willing to trust that the Emperor would continue to lead them in the right direction. "The real pain is going to make the equipment work again," the engineer continued. "Might be better to just scrap it and start anew." Mudj nodded. "From what I heard the Emperor is doing a tour of surrounding systems, trying to recruit them. There's bound of be some fools who decided to attack us and that will give us a larbour force for the mines." "Captain!" a crewmember cried out. "Bird of Prey decloaking!" That raised more than one alarm. Cloaking devices had been rather common years ago but due to economic issues and limited parts most had been scrapped. This would not be a lone raider but someone who had large resources avalible to them. "Their firing!" The BoP moved in and began firing on the Imperial ships. The enemy captain was either brave or mad...or both. There was no way he could win this fight. The old Mudj hailed the brave action while the new Mudj hated the waste. He tried hailing the ship, to see if the captain would listen to reason. "You are within our claimed territory. You will die for the insult." "Damn fool...fire main disruptors!" The enemy BoP's attack on the battle cruiser was cut short as their shields were beaten down and their hull cut to shreads. The ship spun off before exploded. Mudj shook his head and ordered a full sensor sweep of the system. Meanwhile ore freighters headed more the colony surface and damage reports started to come in. One thing trouble Mudj was the symbol he saw on the enemy ship. It was the symbol of the House of Duras. Actions: Rura Penthe claimed, work to restart mining operations begin.

S.C.E Codex Station The Head of the Commonwealths S.C.E, Montgomery Scott looked up in mild relief as the door of the aging engineers office chimed cheerfully. " Come in." The door swung open and in stepped a tall Trill male wearing a command uniform. Making his way to his superiours desk he saluted then took a seat, looking over the large pile of datapads spread haphazardly across the desk. " A bit busier then usual Scotty." Captain Jacan Bensel, commander of Codex station commented. " Ai lad, the admiral has got it in his head that we're going to be a wee bit outclassed now that we have Warp travel back. He's ordered a mass shipbuilding project begun as well as upgrades for the existing ships we have. This all adds up to me having to pull a miracle out of thin air to get everything up and running." The grey haired engineer grumbled. " Well then they asked the right person. I pulled some strings and had that Connie wreak assigned here, she's being tractored into the yard now, hope that cheers you up a bit." The Trill replied with some amusement as he watched a smile appear on Scottys face. " Ai lad, that it does. Now scram so I can finish this blasted paperwork and get back to some real engineering." Result: Several Ships start construction - See OOB. Repairs on Salvaged Constitution, Steamrunner + Soyuz started. Construction of 10, 100m Yards started 2 Ship Mod Designs started.

That Connie could be the E-A, it never Actually died on-screen...although I was planning to say it ended up in Epsilon Eridani after the Khitomer battle. But you have Scotty, so I'll let you use the old gal.

Betazed The Republic ship Constitution , a Constitution-class cruiser, arrived in the system with a flash. Sensor readings poured in, but there were no ships in orbit. Even on low magnification, the scars of bombardment still showed. The Betazoids had been culled to less than two billion, and they were still recovering. Soon, Republic envoys appeared, but not with the message the telepaths wanted. They could join the Republic or remain alone. To reinforce the point, the Republic claimed Betazed. Then a course was set for Sirius. On the world of Tau Perseus 4, a civil war was raging. Overhead, Shrike 's commander, Admiral Antonov, was almost ready to end the war. Both sides had refused calls to surrender to the Republic. Now, a change in leadership was about to happen. "Fire phasers, Captain, full bombardment." The turrents made their FWEE sound, and two massive clouds of smoke and dust appeared. Where there had once been cities, now there were only craters. Thirty-eight thousand were dead, but the surrender came in ten minutes later, and Republic Marines were already on their way. Consolidation of the borders continued. Dissent is suppressed.

Seso'Bok System It had been two days since a small fleet from the Breen System arrived at the high orbit of Damoka colony. Initially, they were greeted with uncertainty from the colonists since devastating attack inflicted on the colony at the hands of Orion Syndicate pirates, and the colonist were somewhat disinclined even toward their fellow Breens due to nearly two decades and half of isolation. Captain Rusok was able to convince the governor of Damoka colony into agreeing to an open dialogue with Rusok as authorized representative of the Breen Confederation government, and the gathering went smoothly than he expected. The colonists knew the better - they needed powerful ally and the Breen domain needed to be restored as it was before the disaster to have a good defense. The result was that Damoka and outlying colonies agreed to rejoin the Breen Confederation for good reasons. "I am pleased to inform you that the relief convoy had arrived a few minutes ago." Captain Rusok turned to the governor who was leaning on the rail watching the people mingling on the busy streets below him. The governor nodded with a contented sigh. "Good to hear, we could use all of the help we get to get this place back to normalcy." He paused and glanced at the captain. "The engineers of mine informed me it would take few months to repair the damages beyond the theater shield zones. However, with the extra heavy-duty industrial replicators made it bit easier for us." "I will see that the full defense would be in the place to protect your world soon as possible. The access to patterns of defensive system had been authorized for this colony." "That's same thing I had in my mind for urgent needs to be attended at this moment. Look, the warp drive might have been restored but the galaxy changed big time, now it's far chaotic place. We need to have the glory of Breen Confederacy restored as it was before the disaster if we wish to live a good life in this part of the galaxy." The captain nodded in agreement and gestured toward the outline of the city, bristled with skyscrapers and buildings, and then at the sky. "That's what the people back on my homeworld was thinking when we discovered the warp drive had returned. We always have a place at this galaxy for several centuries and will continue long as our race lives on. Anyways, about the pirates they will be punished and we are looking for them as I am speaking." Both of the men looked upwardly at the heaven, beyond them the machinations of Breen Confederation had swung into the full force as the government had decided to dedicate a sizeable portion of its military to secure their former space from the outsiders. Breen Homeworld "Come in, Kelevon." Thot Kar, the Breen Confederation's equivalent of the president, called out to the venerated guest who was waiting outside of his office. The president had convened a meeting to discuss an important matter. The Vorta entered and smiled at Thot Kar. "I take that you have something to talk about. I presume it's important." "Yes, that is correct." The president answered. "The galaxy had become more dangerous place with the warp drive restored. The intelligence reports have indicated that half of the galaxy had fractured with most of the empires gone." "Some of the factions are gobbling up the remnants of the empires, I imagine the Romulans and Klingons are too busy creating their own private empires since they are very far ambitious compared to the Federation." The Breen leader face perked up and smiled. "Your assessment is accurate. The situation would provide us a perfect opportunity to take advantage of this mess to re-establish my people's interstellar status. We are already expanding by 40 light-years with patrols." Kelevon walked closer to the office's reinforced windowpane and observed the scene. "The Federation no longer exists to stop the combined might of the Breen and Dominion." He turned to his alien counterpart with a smile implying that he was delighted of crushing the Federation's remnants. "I will need to contact our masters in Gamma Quadrant after we retake your former territory." Thot Kor sighed and shook his head as he poured alcohol into an empty cup for himself. "Unfortunately, to be blunt with you there is a problem. The Bajoran wormhole no longer exists as it was deliberately collapsed by the aliens living inside of the wormhole completely isolating the Dominion from this quadrant. I am sorry to have to tell you that." The smile vanished from the Vorta's face soon as he was delivered a bad new. This was far worse for him, the gods of his was completely isolated from him and any Vortas long as there is no Bajoran wormhole. "This is very terrible for my people. Are you certain this is factual?" "Yes, we were able to acquire the information from the Bajoran traders. The follow-on investigation confirms it when some of our alien agents made a trip to Bajoran homeworld and took a scan when they passed vicinity of the wormhole." Thot Kor tapped on the table activating the holographic display showing the data on the wormhole. "You could verify it with your contacts on the Bajor if you want to. I am aware that the Dominion had the contacts operating on Bajor before the disaster." "No need to do that, I trust your words." Kelevon said abruptly raising his hand in the air. "What will become of me?" "You still have a place among us, special one. You have a good use which you could put for a greater cause" The Breen turned to holographic exhibition that transformed into a planet with moons which Kelevon immediately recognized. "Do you know of this place?" "Lissepia… their homeworld is few light-years away from Cardassian space if former." The Vorta answered quietly. "The Lissepians are one of the Cardassian's active trader partners and close allies. They joined our side during the war with open arms. You are taking that place?" The question was met with a nod from Thot Kar. "Yes, we are going to integrate that world into the Breen Confederation any ways since it's is a high-value strategic location. The Cardassians haven't claimed that world... yet." Kelevon was quick to catch on as he saw the opportunity. "I could vouch myself to convince them to join your government since I had some dealings with them before the war and disaster, only if you accept my offering. You see the Dominion diplomacy is a very handy practice to get our interests attained." "Like what I said before, you have a good use." The Breen leader smiled. "You will be one of our representatives leaving for Lissepia by tonight." ACTIONS (Check the OOB for updates) - Seso'Bok System and its colonies joined the Breen Confederation - The Damoka's warships absorbed into the Breen fleet - Construction began: Planetary shield for Damoka (6 months) - Construction began: Orbital Weapon Platforms for Seso'Bok System (6 months - 20 batteries) - Sent the envoys to Lissepia. - Patrol increases within 40 light-years coverage

We now find ourselves entering the Regulus system bound for Regulus III. A former Federation colony and home to a very good science academy." Captain Tyler put his fingertips together. " Not to complain but I was hoping we'd have a little more excitement then this." He was cut short by a klaxon sounding as the scout ship cloaked. "Captain to the bridge." Grabbing his jacket he was fixing the snaps as he took his chair in the small circular Bridge of the Bird of Prey. "Situation?" Lt Chalms, at tactical brought up a visual of a freighter under attack. " We've received a subspace communication asking for help. It is a Y class freighter with Mimimal weapons. They're being attacked by a pair of Nausicaan raiders. Forward Phaser cannons and torpedo launcher." Tyler had to think back to the old saying Careful what you wish for. " Captain? Should we intercede?" Lt Marse at helm broke into his thought. " Right then. Go to red alert, charge weapons, load photon torpedoes and set course to intercept." The Ship was running silent now as she cruised through space. Her weapons armed but unable to fire with her cloak up. The weapons officer gnawed on a honey stick as he called out position and range. " Range, 300,000 kilokans. We may fire in 30 seconds." On screen they could see phaser fire as the freighter tried to defend herself. " Target weapons only. I want to drive them off not blow them up. Do vha Chi'doq!" The ship uncloaked as one of the raiders started to make a pass and had two disrupter blasts and a photon torpedo hammer it's shields. " Shields at 40%. Second craft breaking off to engage us." A ball of light shot from the raider and the BOP rocked. " They're trying to rattle us. fire again and stay on this one's tail." A dozen Disruptor blasts scored on the ship as the Carson stuck to her. A photon torpedo hit and her forward ems system flickered out. The ship and it's companion suddenly broke off. "Their going to warp, Sir. The Freighter is Hailing us." Tyler did up the last two snaps of his jacket and straightened the collar of it. " Ok, On-screen. 1 Excelsior (TCV Edo) sent to meet up with HoNI vessels on route to Trill Click to expand... Click to shrink...

Part of post about TCV Edo/HoSI , waiting on Coyote. ************************** TCV Stargazer Approaching Klaestron System Captain Readyroom The Captain was enjoying a relaxing cup of en'mac, the Trill version of hot chocolate that he had acquired a taste for during his time in the Fleet as he browsed through the various reports sitting on his desk front of him. Across for him sat his XO who he had convinced to help him with this mountain of work with a verity of promises his credit account would be feeling for a while. After several hours of looking through long essays on population impact, graphs on the damage spread of Dominion weapons and industrial redevelopment, they had finished the compiled follow up reports the the Starforce had done on the systems they had resuntly claimed. These new Commonwealth territories consisted of 9 uninhabited systems and 3 worlds similar to Yen'tea. Despite a larger population base and slightly less damage due to the fighting during the War, the worlds of Gessen, Junpar and Tesnai had suffered terribly. The offer of a place in the Commonwealth founded by their homeworld promising aid and security had been jumped on immediately. Particularly after the Captain had taken the governors aside and informed them that the Commonwealth couldn't afford to defend or provide more then basic humanitarian aid to an independent world. With warp travels return and a new, federation-less galaxy out there, the holdouts were quick to change their minds. " I hope Klaestron is better then the other systems we've encountered. I'm beginning to think we're the only ones to come out of this nightmare somewhat intact." Commander Hevla spoke slightly wistfully. " Well, the Klaestron system is a homeworld like Trill, it may have been hit by the Changlings and loyal Cardasians because of its support of the resistence near the end of the war but I'm sure it survived. It had become a fair sized system before Omega and if anyone around here was trying to reach a system after Doomsday, they would probably go there." Manta replied carefully. Suddenly the lights changed and an alarm sounded. " All hands, go to Yellow Alert. Captain to the bridge." The 2 members of the command team were up and at the door out of the captains office before the announcement had finished. *********************** Somewhere Coreward of Trill, another world was spreading its presence in this new galaxy. Though in a far different manner to the Commonwealth. Results - Captain Mark Umbra of the TCV Edo invites HoSI to Trill, provides escort. - Stargazer TF claims 9 uninhabited systems + 3 minor systems (12mil. pop each). Approaches first Major system (Klaestron).

ALPHA CENTAURI Onboard the SFS Colombus Commodore Henderson gave a relieved sigh. It appeared that atleast here, someone had survived in good shape. Atleast good enough shape to form a government. They had visited several worlds to the North-West of Sol, then had come this way after a short stop at Earth. Many of the other worlds they had found were devestated. They had joined the Sol Federation quickly, either out of a desire for protection or for aid. "Chancellor Bobovoy this is Commodore Henderson of the 1st Exploration Group of the Sol Federation. We come in peace, and are looking to establish diplomatic contact and trade with any other governments that we find." He sighed as frown crossed his face. "To be truthful Chancellor it is good to find at least one area in good shape. Most of the places that we have been to have been in shambles. We have only found four still inhabited systems before arriving here, and they were in bad shape." - 1st Explorer Group responds to hail from Alpha Centauri Federation. Polite, seeks diplomatic contact and perhaps trade, shields are up but weapons are unpowered. -Sol Federation claims 3 minor but inhabitable worlds/systems, also claims inhabited systems of Bernard's Star, Beta Comae, Tellar, and Altair. Sol Federation territory forms a sort of triangle with Sol, Altair, and Tellar forming the points. SOL President Fraiser looked out of the ship's window at the Sol Federation's shipyards which had recently begun to build new ships for the first time in years. With the recent report from the 1st Exploration Group, the SF Council had quickly agreed that a stronger military was needed. Especially with the new territory to protect. Just out of sight from the window that she was at an aid convoy was forming up. As soon as a convoy of traders had brought the news of the Plague on Vulcan, the Sol Federation had sprung into action. Freighters and transports were crammed full of medicine and other medical supplies. Volunteer medical proffessionals were being sent as well. Fraiser turned away from the window, making a mental note to double check as to what escort was being sent with the aid convoy. - Sol Federation dispatches aid convoy to Vulcan. - Convoy is escorted by 1 Freedom Destroyer, and two Saber Corvettes from 1st Fleet. - Sol Federation begins construction on 6 Freedom Destroyers SOL FEDERATION SPACE Captain Johnson let out a sigh as he looked over the sensor readings his small squadron was picking up. Apparently two more ships were heading for Sol, the best guess from the warp tracks was two Excelsiors. Captain Williams squadron had just stopped two Saber Corvettes about half and hour ago as well. "Well we have a job a to do. So lets get to it." Johnson said, ordering the squadron to intercept the incoming ships. "Operations record and send this message, replay untill we receive a response.' "This is the Sol Federation Starship to oncoming craft. Come to a halt and identify yourself, and your reason to be in this area. Refesual to do so will be considered a hostile action." He sat back in his chair and waited to see what the response would be. - Both groups of ship enroute to Earth are stopped by elements of the Second Fleet. Asked to id themselves, and asked what their reason to head to Earth is. - the Excelsiors are met by 1 Intrepid and 2 Freedom Destroyers - the Sabers are met by 1 Freedom Destroyer and 2 New Orleans Frigates EDGE OF HOMNI TERRITORY The SFS Polo came to a halt along with the rest of the 2nd Exploration Group just inside the Barukh System. According to the old star charts this system had been a part of the HOMNI, and it appeared that HOMNI at least had survived the Omega Protocol. Commodore Callahan nodded to the operations officer, and the standard first contact data blurb began transmitting along with a message from Captain Callahan. "This Commodore Callahan of the Sol Federation 2nd Exploration Group. We come in peace and wish to establish diplomatic contact and trade with the government in the area." - 2nd Exploration Group arrives at Barukh System. - Standard Greetings and First Contact Blurb goes out. - Shields are up, but weapons powered down.

Chris Pine Gives Uninspiring (and Unsurprising) Update on Star Trek 4

Rumor: an original avenger may return in a marvel limited series, game of thrones: most selfless characters, ranked.

Since the beginning, Star Trek has introduced audiences to mind-bending concepts that defy the known realities. Among these cosmic mysteries is the Omega particle. This strange substance haunts the series with insidious implications, testing the boundaries of scientific comprehension and plunging sci-fi fans into a maddening rabbit hole where reality unravels and chaos reigns supreme.

The Omega particle in Star Trek serves as a haunting symbol of forbidden knowledge. It is a sinister force that threatens to unleash destruction upon the galaxy. Its danger lies in its potential to rupture subspace and annihilate the fundamental structure of space-time itself. This sinister substance challenges the ordered universe with its unruly essence. It becomes a perverse temptation, akin to the forbidden fruit that whispers to curious minds daring to gaze into the abyss.

The Origin & Nature Of The Omega Particle

Referred to by the Borg as Particle 010, the Omega particle holds the distinction of being the most formidable substance in the known universe. The Borg, relentless assimilators of knowledge , first became aware of the Omega molecule in 2145. Through the assimilation of thirteen distinct species, the Borg gradually pieced together the puzzle of this elusive substance.

Their quest began with the assimilation of Species 262, which possessed an oral history hinting at the presence of a profoundly powerful element. Intrigued, the Borg embarked on a relentless pursuit, leading them to Species 263, a comparably primitive society. Guided by whispers of myth, the Borg doggedly followed the trail for countless years until they finally encountered a species that provided them with valuable data.

Armed with this newfound knowledge, the Borg achieved the remarkable feat of synthesizing a solitary Omega molecule, capable of preserving stability for a minuscule fraction of time — one trillionth of a nanosecond. However, the path to this accomplishment was not without perils. The Borg's experimentation with Omega resulted in the destruction of twenty-nine of their vessels, and the loss of 600,000 assimilated drones. Nevertheless, the allure of Omega drove the Borg to a singular imperative: to assimilate Omega at any cost.

To advance their agenda, the Borg devised a harmonic resonance chamber intended to theoretically stabilize the Omega molecule. Despite their formidable intellect, the Borg encountered an insurmountable roadblock. They could construct the chamber, but were unable to acquire the essential boronite substance needed to synthesize additional Omega molecules, as Seven of Nine lamented in Star Trek: Voyager.

In Star Trek: Voyager Season 4, Episode 1, titled "The Omega Directive," the Omega molecule assumes center stage, showcasing its staggering potential and the Borg's unwavering pursuit of perfection.

The Threat Of The Omega Particle In Star Trek

The threat posed by the Omega molecule is best described in Captain Kathryn Janeway's words in "The Omega Directive:"

"I won't risk half the quadrant to satisfy our curiosity. It's arrogant, and it's irresponsible. The final frontier has some boundaries that shouldn't be crossed, and we're looking at one."

However, the menace posed by the Omega molecule extends beyond its potential to obliterate vast portions of the quadrant , as Janeway contends. The Federation's apprehension is primarily rooted in the far-reaching repercussions on subspace itself. Voyager elaborates on this notion, revealing that the subspace disturbances resulting from the failed 23rd-century Omega experiment persist into the 24th century, effectively impeding warp travel within the surrounding sector.

It is crucial to note that warp travel serves as the foundation of the Federation, with civilizations deemed unworthy of "first contact" until they independently develop this technology. What's more, at this point in the series, the crew of Voyager is stranded decades away from home — and that's with access to warp travel. Without it, there is no conceivable way home.

The crew is forced to envision a scenario where a colossal Omega detonation occurs, leading to the annihilation of warp travel not only within the Federation, but conceivably throughout the entire galaxy. Such an event would sever the ties of subspace communication that bind countless worlds together. Messages, traversing at the speed of light, would languish for years, if not decades, before reaching their intended recipients. Ships would regress to sublight speeds, reminiscent of a bygone era. Consequently, the Federation and other galactic powers would be torn asunder, condemned to navigate the cosmos in isolated solitude.

The Omega particle stands as a haunting symbol of forbidden knowledge in the Star Trek universe. Its potential to rupture subspace and unleash cataclysmic destruction poses a threat to vast portions of the quadrant and the fabric of space-time itself. The relentless pursuit of perfection by the Borg and the Federation's apprehension underscores the profound implications of the Omega molecule.

As Captain Janeway cautions, there are boundaries in the final frontier that should not be crossed. The Omega particle challenges the order and stability of the universe, leaving a trail of subspace disturbances that impede warp travel and disrupt communication between civilizations. It has the potential to isolate and fragment the galactic powers, plunging them into a state of isolated solitude. In the end, the Omega particle remains an enigma, a tantalizing glimpse into the realm of Star Trek . It reminds us that even in the vast expanse of space, there are mysteries that should be left untouched, lest we unleash chaos upon the galaxy.

Voyager ’s "The Omega Directive" episode is available to stream on Paramount+ and Pluto TV.

Security protocol

  • View history

A security protocol was a command authorization code -protected computer program regarding the security aboard a starship or space station.

In 2258 , James T. Kirk recorded a log in which he accused then- acting captain Spock of marooning him on the planet Delta Vega , an action he believed to be a violation of Security Protocol 49.09, which regarded treatment of prisoners held on a starship . ( Star Trek )

Commander William T. Riker enabled the security protocol aboard the USS Enterprise -D by using "Riker Omega Three". ( TNG : " Power Play ")

When a Starfleet officer was captured by an enemy, his access codes and security protocols were changed automatically. ( TNG : " Chain Of Command, Part II ") In addition, security protocols were changed when the same crime was performed in the same area aboard a space station. ( DS9 : " Looking for par'Mach in All the Wrong Places ")

Aboard Deep Space 9, Commander Benjamin Sisko and Odo were the only persons who could activate a level five security protocol. ( DS9 : " Dramatis Personae ") Odo himself designed the security protocols aboard Deep Space 9 to generate some "nasty feedbacks " when accessed. ( DS9 : " A Simple Investigation ")

When Jadzia Dax and Miles O'Brien boarded a subspace relay station in the Callinon system , Dax noted it was too fast possible and asked if they activated any kind of security protocol. ( DS9 : " The Search, Part I ")

Elim Garak was able to rewrite Cardassian security protocols. ( DS9 : " Civil Defense ")

In an alternate timeline , Admiral Strickler questioned and accused Harry Kim of breaking into classified files and forging Voyager security protocols. ( VOY : " Non Sequitur ")

In 2373 , the transporter security system on Deep Space 9 failed to detect a remat detonator hidden somewhere on Trentin Fala 's person, despite being programmed to do so. This lead Jadzia Dax to speculate that whoever planted the device on understood the space station 's security protocols well. ( DS9 : " The Darkness and the Light ")

The same year, someone bypassed the security protocols aboard the USS Defiant and changed the flight plan . ( DS9 : " Children of Time ")

After Tuvok neglected to allow Neelix on his security rounds, Neelix assured him that he had completed his study of starship security protocols and that he felt Tuvok should find that he was " fully qualified to serve in the capacity of a Starfleet security officer . Junior grade, of course. " ( VOY : " Fair Trade ")

In 2375 , during the waning days of the Dominion War , members of Rusot 's terrorist cell acquired a Cardassian shuttle , with up-to-date security protocols, for use to transport Rusot, Damar , Elim Garak , Kira Nerys , and Odo to infiltrate the repair facility in the Kelvas system . ( DS9 : " Tacking Into the Wind ")

In 2377 , the Dralian salesman Gar evaded all of the USS Voyager 's security protocols. ( VOY : " Critical Care ")
