The food was ordinary, this could be improved. Sleeping was comfortable enough for several hours sleep. The layover time in Manila Mabuhay lounge for 17 hours was awful. Surely I could have been given a flight to Perth within that time on another airline. At 74 years of age I find that far too long and stressful and will probably not travel with Philippine Airlines again for that reason. The food offering on board and in the lounge was also a little underwhelming. The crew were wonderful and the flight comfort was good also.

I paid for an aisle seat on my booking but for my return flight back in the US I was ina middle seat. I didnt realize this until i was already on the plane.

The flight itself was ok. However, the plane has 2 bathrooms for about 200 people. After the meal service there was a line between 10-15 people deep standing in the aisle waiting to use the bathroom. This went on for over an hour. The airlines tell us safety is their priority and to keep seatbelts on whenever on the plane but they allow a line of people to stand in the aisle for over an hour waiting for a bathroom. Absurd and unacceptable.

I’ve had previous bad experiences with Philippine Airlines so i was pleasantly surprised with the vast improvement in comfort, service and food quality.

The seats are too cramped, there is barely enough room to shift weight. This could be easy to endure in a one-hour flight, but not more than that. The crew did not clean up shortly after meals. The tray table remained open because of the meal and ate up what is left of the little seating space. The crew were just idling by for 45 minutes before they collected the trash. The airline did not inspect carry-on luggage. Most of the passengers brought too many bags, too large and/or over the weight limit. This undermines safety and discourages those who pay extra for checked bags just to comply with the airline regulations. If the airline is not inspecting carry-on luggage, why should I pay more just to check in some bags?

Terrible, I will never ever ever attempt to fly on Cebu Pacific. I understand that it’s a cheap flight option but they take cheap experience to the next level.

To ride the Cebu to Manila 2GO Ferry, go to Cebu City’s Pier 1. After 22 hours of sea travel, you’ll arrive at Manila’s Pier 4. There might be some discrepancies now and then regarding the schedule. It would be wise to check the exact departure schedule every month.

Super Value Class

The cheapest out of all the ticket options is the super value class. A bunk bed will be assigned to you on the outer decks of the ferry. Purchase this ticket  here , if the bare minimum is just what you need.

Mega Value Class

Cebu to Manila Fare: 1,664 PHP

Manila to Cebu Fare: 1,304 PHP

The mega-value class tickets are only slightly more expensive than the super-value class. The price difference is almost negligible, especially when you consider that your bunk will now be in an air-conditioned area. This ticket type gives you more value than the former.

Tourist Class

Cebu to Manila Fare: 1,845 PHP

Manila to Cebu Fare: 1,845 PHP

Tourist class ticket prices for both routes are priced at the same rate. Beds are now in a smaller enclosed area, but still in a shared space. Buy this ticket  here .

Cabin for 6

For the Cabin of 6, bunk beds come with a light divider. The room is also equipped with a desk and a television. All these features are added for more privacy and comfort. Please note that the ticket price is only good for one person.

Cabin for 4

Manila to Cebu Fare: 2,499 PHP

The maximum occupancy for this cabin is four people. The room is more spacious with fewer people in it. A blanket is even provided for assigned passengers in this cabin. Like the six-person cabin, buying a single ticket will only accommodate one person.

MANILA TO CEBU via 2GO Travel • What to Expect, How to Board Ferry

These days, if anyone brings up traveling from Manila to Cebu, our minds take us to the skies. I know this because when I mentioned to my family and friends that I was Cebu-bound, they assumed without question that I would be checking in at an airport. But they were wrong. Because this time around, I’m taking my love for travel to the seas!

Cebu is one of the most popular destinations in the country. While many would instinctively search for flights a prospect of a Cebu trip, there are still a lot out there who prefer traveling by sea. Yes, the travel time is much longer but it comes with several perks, too. First, year-round fares are often cheaper. Second, baggage allowance is waaaay larger. Third, if you book a modern ship, it usually comes with amenities to help you burn those hours.

I recently got to experience traveling from Manila to Cebu on board MV 2GO Maligaya , one of 2GO Travel’s newest fleet members. In this article, we’ll share with you how to sail to Cebu with 2GO Travel!

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

MANILA-CEBU-MANILA Sailing Schedule

2GO Travel has two vessels that plies the Manila-Cebu route: the St. Therese of Child Jesus and the newer, more modern MV 2GO Maligaya . Both sail to Cebu twice a week. Here’s their complete schedule as of this writing.

Below is 2GO Travel’s Manila-Cebu schedule as of July 2022.

That said, note that timings can change fast so please contact 2GO Travel directly or do a faux booking on their website for the latest timetable.

How much is a 2GO ticket?

The ticket prices vary depending on the type of accommodation you prefer to book. 2GO also has a dynamic ticket pricing so prices change based on many factors including how close your booking date is to your intended travel date.

We did a quick check when booking 1 month ahead and here’s what we found for Manila-Cebu route:

• MV 2GO MALIGAYA Value Class / Tourist Class: P1467 (all in)
• MV ST. THERESE OF THE CHILD JESUS Value Class: P1467 (all in) Tourist Cabin: P1667 (all in)

All accommodation types are priced per bed except the Stateroom , which is booked as a room and comes with 2 tickets.

Unlike other 2GO vessels, all accommodations on MV 2GO Maligaya are air-conditioned. All 2GO Maligaya tickets are also inclusive of all meals on board depending on the schedule of your trip.

How to Get to 2GO Pier in Manila

The passenger terminal for MV 2GO Maligaya is at Pier 4 of Manila North Harbor .

• By Taxi or Grab . The most convenient option is to ride a cab or book a Grab. Just pin North Harbor Pier 4 Zaragoza Gate as your destination.
• By Public Transportation. Make your way to LRT Carriedo Station. From here, walk towards Evangelista Street and ride a jeepney bound for North Harbor. Get off near Jollibee North Harbor. Then, walk to Zaragoza Gate (or hail a tricycle).

How to Check in and Board 2GO

Upon arrival at the port, you need to follow these steps strictly in order to board your vessel:

• Arrive at the passenger terminal early. If you have cargo or checked baggage, you need to check in at least four (4) hours in order to clear security inspection in time.
• Present your ticket upon arrival at the passenger terminal. You may not be allowed to enter the terminal without proof of booking.
• Pay the terminal fee. Find the terminal fee counter to settle this.
• Have your temperature checked. Before entering the departure area, your temperature will be checked.
• Present your ticket and valid ID. At the check-in counter, present your ticket and valid ID to the agent/staff. For the list of accepted IDs, see the FAQs section towards the end of this article.
• Wait for boarding at designated area. Passengers will be informed when it’s time for boarding.
• Board the ship. You will walk to the ship and climb up the stairs for boarding. Upon boarding the ship, present your ticket to the staff, who will ask you to wait at the lobby. When your name is called, you will be shown to your room.
• Check in to your room. You will get a key if you’re staying in tourist, business class, or stateroom accommodations.
• Disembark at Cebu Port. The ship will dock at Cebu Port. There will be an announcement when the ship is arriving at the port and when it’s time to disembark. When the right time comes, go down the same stairs you climbed up when you boarded the ship.

From the port, the best way to get to the city center, especially if you have luggage is to take a taxi or book a Grab ride. Grab car rates from the port to hotels in Cebu City or Mandaue City fall between P150 and 250.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What are the health and safety protocols on board.

Upon boarding, you need to check your temperature with the thermal scanner by the entrance.

While on board, everyone is required to wear a face mask unless you’re eating. Staff kept reminding passengers who were not wearing their face masks properly while going around the vessel. You’ll find alcohol dispensers at the dining areas and other common spaces.

What are the requirements when sailing with 2GO Travel to Cebu?

The following are the requirements for fully-vaccinated travelers to Cebu City:

• Printed copy of the eTicket Itinerary Receipt.
• Valid ID (see list of accepted IDs in the next section)
• Vaccination card/certificate with QR code

For unvaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers , the following are also required (as of May 2022):

• Negative RT-PCR test result from a DOH-accredited laboratory taken within 72 hours; OR
• Negative antigen/ saliva test result from a DOH-accredited laboratory taken within 48 hours; AND
• Approved S-Pass

In addition, the LGU of your final destination might need more documents from you. Note that Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City and the rest of Cebu Province have different sets of requirements, depending on your purpose and vaccination status.

How much baggage can I bring onboard?

Each passenger paying the full fare is allowed to have hand baggage weighing up to 50 kg. (Yep, 50 kilos.)

As for the size, it should not be over 20 inches tall and 30 inches wide per piece. The hand baggage should fit the designated accommodation area and should not obstruct other passengers.

Are there showers on board on MV 2GO Maligaya?

Yes. Shower rooms with multiple shower cubicles are available at each accommodation area.

On MV 2GO Maligaya’s Deck 5, the shower area and toilet area are shared by passengers in the Mega Value Class, Tourist Premium, and Business Class Premium.

Shower rooms and toilets are also available on Deck 6, near the Business Class for 2 and Business Class for 4 rooms. Staterooms has their own bathroom with a bathtub inside the room.

Will they provide towels and blankets?

Towels, linens, and blankets are provided for business class and stateroom passengers . For Mega Value Class and Tourist Premium, these are not included, but they are available for rent on board.

You are also free to bring and use your own.

Is there available food on board?

Yes. Each ticket is inclusive of meals on board. The meals to be served depend on the schedule of your trip. Our scheduled departure was at 6:00PM and the meals included was dinner and breakfast and lunch the next day.

According to 2GO, in instances of delays, passengers don’t have to worry about food because meals will be served for as long as they are on board.

On MV 2GO Maligaya, meals are served in Island Fiesta for Mega Value and Tourist passengers, while Business Class and Stateroom passengers can have their meals in Horizon Cafe .

Passengers may also have their meals inside the room. During meal time, staff knocks on doors to deliver meals and passengers may consume it there instead of having to go to Island Fiesta or Horizon Cafe.

Is there a store on board where we can buy snacks?

Yes, on both vessels.

On MV 2GO Maligaya, a convenience store called Quikmart is open. Biscuits, chips, and cup noodles are available. You can also get juice, bottled water, beer, and other beverages here.

Other snacks like sandwiches, siomai, and siopao are also available at Island Fiesta. There are also hot and cold water stations where you can get free water refills and hot water for your instant noodles or coffee.

Are pets allowed on the vessel?

Yes, pets and other animals are allowed as long as (1) they are not endangered species, (2) they are properly caged, and (3) they have all the necessary paperwork.

What was it like to sail with 2GO? How was the experience?

OK, first of all, full disclosure, our trip was arranged for us by 2GO Travel itself, but I’ll still be as objective as I can.

Personally, I’ve never experienced traveling on a ship prior this ship. A few people I know have never tried or even considered traveling this way because they were afraid of the thought of being in the open sea and feeling huge waves while on board. I myself isn’t scared of waves and I don’t get sea sick easily. But if you’re one of those people, I don’t think you should worry much about it. I didn’t really feel the vessel move for the most part. It felt like I was in a hotel on land.

What I was concerned about was the long travel time and the possibility of being bored with nothing to do on the ship. The journey from Manila to Cebu took us almost 24 hours, but surprisingly and thankfully, I didn’t get bored at any point. Activities and amenities on board would keep you occupied for much of the journey and it could make you feel like it’s already a part of your vacation.

Why do people put themselves through this?

Even at a more efficient than Manila airport, self connecting on this time line is a risk with an expensive flight on the line. I wish the thread starter well but the perils of Manila airport are well documented.

Creative sparks: Insights from Globe’s G Creator Con in Cebu

Cebu City was abuzz with creative energy as Globe Telecom brought G Creator Con last April 26, 2024, at the University of San Carlos – Talamban Campus. Attended by seasoned and aspiring content creators regardless of the platform, the whole-day affair featured carefully selected sets of speakers who passionately shared their journey and experiences on how they got to become the creators they are now.

We are excited to have brought G Creator Con to Cebu and, eventually, bring it to other regions. We continue to advocate for the self-discovery of passions while being one’s most authentic self in the creative spaces we provide.

Following its successful pilot in Metro Manila, Globe brings G Creator Con to Cebu, reaching more young Cebuano creatives, aspiring artists, content creators, and communities in the Visayas region.

The event was the perfect platform for creatives exploring content creation fields such as podcasting, cosplaying, game development, music production, and esports, offering opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals.

In today’s digital landscape, the proliferation of various online platforms has provided creators with myriad opportunities to showcase their talents. Globe’s G Creator Con not only encouraged young individuals to unleash their creativity but also envisioned itself as their partner in nurturing their passions. The event boasted an impressive lineup of speakers from Globe’s diverse technology partners and creator communities, aiming to enrich and inspire attendees.

Lessons from seasoned podcasters

One type of digital content that is flourishing, not just in Cebu but also globally, is podcasting. A form of digital audio entertainment, podcasting is like an episodic radio show that features various topics, interviews, discussions, and educational and entertaining content. Listeners can download or stream it, and they are free to listen at any time.

Bianca Gonzalez-Intal, host of the popular podcast “Paano Ba ‘To,” gave tips to those starting or in the early stage of their podcast. Her message was to consume podcasts to understand the format, develop a workflow, and collaborate. She explained that collaboration benefits creators by fostering content and building a support network.

Mel Lozano, Head of Podcasts of Globe Group’s ANIMA Studios and producer of “Endslate,” echoed collaboration but with a practical twist. “Use your smartphone’s mic,” she urged. “It’s a powerful tool. Grab a pen, talk to each other, lay out your tracks using your editing tool, and that’s it, publish!”

Meanwhile, Jacob Maquiling and Lance Arevada of “Ganito Kasi’ Yan” emphasized having kwento na may kwenta. Arevada says, “Focus on that kwento na may kwenta because people will hear you more. They will resonate with that if you keep on sharing them.”

Navigating challenges in cosplay

Cosplaying has been a popular hobby for many fans of fictional characters and, in recent years, has gained broader acceptance in the general Cebuano community. Cosplayers dress up in elaborate costumes, armor, and weapons of fictional characters from their favorite anime, video games, comic books, or even movies.

Despite the recent growth of the cosplaying community, cosplayers continue to encounter criticism and negativity. At the G Creator Con, esteemed cosplayers shared insights into coping with the challenges inherent in their craft.

“Just focus on your business. Remember that you have to rise in this career despite the criticism. It would help if you also learned everything and upgraded, especially in your craft. So, showcase your skills and give everything you have,” said Alexis Steve Cesa of Team Touken Kyuodai.

Bring game ideas to life

The world of gaming is booming, and Cebu is joining the wave! Many aspiring developers are finding a supportive environment to bring their game ideas to life. This surge is fueled by a growing local gaming community, a rise in accessible development tools, and increasing global demand for fresh gaming experience.

As part of creating video games, game development involves various skills, from programming and design to art and sound creation. Game developers brainstorm concepts, build the game’s mechanics and world, and combine everything to create a fun and engaging player experience.

Alvin Juban, Game Developers Association of the Philippines Chairman’s advice to the new generation of game developers is, “I hope if you do talk to your parents or know someone interested in going to our game development field, support that weird one.” He added, “Tell them there is a future in game development. Tell them it’s true.”

Consider a career in Esports

Esports have exploded in popularity, transforming competitive video gaming into a spectator sport with professional players, leagues, and tournaments. It’s not just about the glory of victory for players anymore; esports offer a wide range of career paths behind the scenes, from event management and coaching to content creation and marketing.

During G Creator Con, Icoy Rapadas, guest speaker in the Professional Careers in Gaming segment, said professionals from different fields can thrive in the gaming landscape. It is all about grabbing opportunities and making the best out of them.

He said, “Whatever you guys are doing now, whatever your course is, just try your best because you’re already here. You’re there. You’re already doing it. But don’t think whatever your course is will dictate what will happen in 10 years.”

Rapadas added, “Whatever you’re doing now could still lead to wherever you’re supposed to be. Whatever happens, do your best, and always value relationships. Because you don’t know when you’ll use it, be a kind person in general. That’s going to take you places.”

Being authentic in expressing yourself and building a community around your music

The moment for the Cebuano local music scene has come. Local talents are finding bigger audiences, thanks to the power of the internet, the rise of streaming platforms, and the support of brands like Globe, which allows artists to spread Bisdak music culture and express themselves to the world.

Music production is the art and science of creating recorded music. It encompasses everything from composing and songwriting to recording, editing, and mixing. Music producers wear many hats, shaping a song or album’s sound, style, and overall impact.

At the Bisdak Music Culture, Self Expression, and Authenticity in Music segment of G Creator Con, Gino Rosales of Mandaue Nights confessed that one of many creatives’ struggles is to adapt and stay relevant. That’s why building a community is essential for performing artists. “One part of being sustainable is to have a community you can share your struggles with,” said Karl Lucente, another Mandaue Nights member.

Finding your niche as a Cebuano content creator

G Creator Con resonated with the audience as it brought together Cebuano content creators from Bai TV, including David Cua, the Bisaya Conyo Girl, Pats Pinote, Patweck, Abby Medrina, and PJ Yu.

Cua’s message was clear: hit record. “Your biggest bottleneck is yourself,” he said. “The truth is, no one knows what they’re doing at the start.” Finding your niche was another critical point from him. “Figure out what you can do that not many other people can. Build everything up from there…Don’t be afraid to experiment. This is the Internet. Everything is one big experiment.”

Cua wrapped up the session with a dose of reality, telling the audience that success takes time. “It takes a lot of time to be an overnight sensation,” he said. “Many of your faves we’ve been trying for so long before they figured out what works. I guess delulu really is the solulu.”

G Creator Con: Globe’s vision for creative innovation

G Creator Con also featured other guest speakers from Anima Podcasts, ARCHcon, BAI TV, Cebu Making Space, DTI Design Center, Game Developers Association of the Philippines, Mandaue Nights, TikTok, and Tier One Entertainment.

“We are excited to have brought G Creator Con to Cebu and, eventually, bring it to other regions. We continue to advocate for the self-discovery of passions while being one’s most authentic self in the creative spaces we provide,” said Pia Gonzalez-Colby, Globe’s Chief Marketing Officer.

“We want to inspire more Filipinos, especially the youth, to find and freely explore what ignites them from inside out,” she added.

G Creator Con Cebu was about inspiration and giving aspiring creators the tools and confidence to succeed online. Cebu Pacific rolls out record-low fares with new campaign

Cebu Pacific (CEB) has made a strategic push to enhance its market presence and appeal to Australian residents eager to discover new and exciting destinations.

Launched to capitalise on the surge in international travel, the airline’s latest campaign,  Fly to Happy, Fly to the Philippines with Cebu Pacific , promotes limited-time bargain airfares to encourage bookings, plus a catchy tune promoting the country as a happy destination.

The airline recently ran a promotion till April 30 offering some of its lowest fares ever from A$289 (US$188) on its Melbourne or Sydney routes for travel between May 1 and September 30 this year.

CEB already has a healthy customer base among Filipinos, who ranked number five for the most common overseas country of birth at the last Australian census in 2021, but it is believed there is an untapped market among leisure-seeking Australian travellers.

“(The campaign) is targeted to entice non-Filipino travellers to visit the Philippines and make Cebu Pacific their airline of choice,” said CEB spokesperson Carmina Romero.

“Our internal (research) has indicated that Australia would be a promising market. In 2023 alone, Cebu Pacific carried more than 100,000 inbound passengers from Melbourne and Sydney to Manila. This significant volume of passengers reflects a growing interest in air travel between Australia and the Philippines.

“We see great potential for further growth and development in serving the Australian market and are confident that these travellers can discover a variety of unique attractions and thrilling adventures here in the Philippines,” she told  TTG Asia .

Romero continued to say there’s been significant positive feedback to the campaign so far, following events with stakeholders and influencers in Melbourne.

Although the campaign signals a new chapter, remnants of frustration from flight cancellations could temper some customers’ responses.

The airline’s last campaign ended with the cancellation of all Melbourne to Manila flights between October 30, 2022 and March 25, 2023, leaving many frustrated customers scrambling to rebook with other airlines or deal with the company’s help bots to try and claim refunds. The cancellations were blamed on network-related schedule changes.

“I had booked my tickets in March that year for Christmas and was looking forward to being able to fly directly from Melbourne with my young family. So to have my tickets cancelled two months before without any explanation was upsetting, and I eventually got my refund from my bank rather than the airline,” confided an impacted customer, who chose to remain anonymous for this article.

“I do find the current promotion attractive because it’s a really good price – but I would love some assurance that the previous cancellations won’t happen again and that they will improve customer relations because we have high expectations here in Melbourne,” the customer added.

Invited to respond, Romero said CEB has since achieved stronger resiliency in the face of global supply challenges.

“Ahead of the fourth quarter 2023 peak, we had already (arranged) precautionary allocation of spare aircraft on standby to be utilised for disruptions. Taking delivery of new aircraft is also one of the proactive steps we’ve made to boost our operational resiliency,” she said.

“We have also made significant improvements in our customer policies to adapt our services to our customers’ evolving needs,” she added.

This includes extending the validity of CEB’s travel vouchers to 18 months, previously six months. An “elevated digital experience” has also been introduced with a “new and improved” 24/7 virtual assistant that is better connected with CEB’s help centre and its live agents.

CEB’s  Fly to Happy, Fly to the Philippines with Cebu Pacific  campaign will involve other activities this year to strengthen brand awareness and is run across other markets within the airline’s international network.
