lastpass mac safari autofill not working

If AutoFill doesn’t work in Safari on Mac

If you can’t fill in information you previously entered on websites, try these suggestions.

Open Safari for me

Make sure any information you want to autofill is saved in your My Card in Contacts. Safari can fill in only contact information that’s in Contacts. For example, if a form requires your phone number but it isn’t on your contact card, you must fill it in manually.

Make sure the webpage has fields AutoFill can complete.

Safari may be unable to tell which fields are for user name and password, credit card number and expiration date, and so forth.

lastpass mac safari autofill not working

If AutoFill still doesn’t work, the website may not allow it.

To turn AutoFill off, choose Safari > Settings, click AutoFill, then deselect the information you want to enter manually.

LastPass autofill not working in Apple Safari

I’ve noticed in the last few days, maybe week, that LastPass does not autofill / autocomplete when I’m using Safari on my iMac. I’m currently running Version 11.1.2 of Safari and LastPass 4.15.2.1.

lastpass mac safari autofill not working

The  only way LastPass currently works in Safari is:

  • Log in to LastPass
  • Search for the site
  • Copy password

Not Acknowledged by LastPass

The issue is not officially noted by LastPass on their LastPass Twitter accounts (@LastPass, @LastPassHelp). There are individuals tweeting the issue and @LastPassHelp replies to the tweet. However, there is no “push” message or acknowledgement from LastPass.

Sorry to hear that, Adam. Please try to update your LastPass extension to version 4.15.2 for your Safari browser. Please let us know if it still persist. Thank you. — LastPass Support (@LastPassHelp) July 31, 2018

lastpass mac safari autofill not working

Some of the suggested fixes from the forums include the following steps.

  • Open up LastPass preferences (for example, click the LastPass icon next to the Address Bar and select Preferences from the drop down menu.
  • Click the Advanced tab on the left.
  • Check the Respect AutoComplete=off: allow websites to disable AutoFill box. It looks like the label is incorrect.
  • Click the Save button at the bottom of the page. Reload any page that you have open that LastPass isn’t autofilling or the icon isn’t appearing in the username and password fields.

There is an additional suggestion to manually  downgrade the LastPass Extension in Safari.

Why this doesn’t matter (in the short-term)

I’ve already switched my browsing to Google Chrome away from Apple Safari. Why? Because LastPass still works. As I’m sure the behavior will be similar for most people, the functionality provided through LastPass is more important than what browser you use. As long as people can get on the Internet, login to their websites, and use LastPass, they won’t care what browser.

We just want LastPass to work.

I put in a support ticket on this issue and Lastpass confirmed there is a problem that they are working on:

Apologies for the inconvenience. Our development team are aware of the issue regarding to LastPass on Safari not autofilling or the icons are not showing up in the fields. Our team are profusely working hard to fix this. We thank you for your patience in the meantime. The best workaround in the meantime to copy/paste the username and password into the field until the issue is resolved and pushed out to the Apple team.

Unfortunately there is no ETA at this time, so please note that this ticket may close on it’s own after too many days of inactivity. Don’t worry, though this ticket might close, the bug report will remain open until it is fixed.

Thanks Ian!

Until then, we’re all using our workarounds! Appreciate the further insight.

One other tip I’ve found that may help others – if LastPass doesn’t load/pre-fill in Safari, if you reload the page, it will often then work.

Lastpass has indicated that they are working with Apple to fix this issue (September 2018). Lastpass says, the “ball is in their (Apple’s) court” at this time with no ETA for the fix. Lastpass functionality trumps which browser I use. Google Chrome is my new default.

So true Robin! Chrome is totally my default on my desktop as well for that very reason!

Last Pass not working with Safari

There seems to be some issue between Safari and Last Pass. Back in August Last Pass suddenly stopped auto filling id and password information. This occurred under High Sierra and persists in Mojave. There are hundreds of posts on the Last Pass forum with no response to date from either Logmein or Last Pass. Works fine with Chrome. I don't want to be forced to choose between Safari and LastPass so speaking for a large community of effected Mac users it would be great if Apple and Last Pass could work together to get this resolved.

I have searched and searched online for a solution with no luck. When I go to a website on my Mac Mini: ---------- My Safari-suggested username (from Keychain Access) for the site appears in a slightly-greyed button correctly. • Funny saved password behavior in Safari MacMini (2012) running High Sierra. This has an admin account with a longish password, and my wife and I each have user accounts with no passwords - I did this so we can fast user switch without entering PWs all day long. Anyway, on her account (but not mine) the option to use a saved user name/password in Safari (for web sites, etc) pop up normally but only for an instant, and then disappear (after maybe half a second). If you click on the icon that appears on the right in the user name or password fields, it does the same - flashes briefly, then disappears. It's long enough to see the user name, but not long enough to click on fill-in-password-for-this-site. All these things work fine on my account. Any ideas? 358 3

Have you checked for an extension update?

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.

Hiding From Customers

I became a premium user a few weeks ago and have spent a good deal of time moving all of my passwords over to LastPass. It took quite some time to figure out how to use it. Their cutsey little sixty second so called tutorial videos are absolutely useless. I finally got to where I could add a site and get LastPass to use the password but can't for the life of me get it to do the auto fill they talk about so highly. It works on my iPhone but not on my MacBook Pro. What makes this even more frustrating is that there is no contact information that I can find to ask LastPass a question to get it working. They evidently don't want to be bothered by customers wanting to learn how to use their app. I paid for a year and I feel I deserve to be able to use the features I paid for. I would be happy to change my rating if you can let me know how to get the auto fill to work but I'm not holding my breath. As of right now, I wouldn't recommend this app. I am probably going to have to find something else to use as well.

Piece of Junk

What a piece of junk. Offline access does not work. The browser extension version is invasive and searches the DOM of pages to find places to put the last pass icon to try and "help" you, wasting up to 5 seconds per page on this useless nonsense. There is no way to turn this off. If you don't like it and uninstall the browser extension, the Mac desktop app has even less support than the browser extension. I dropped my paid account like a hot potato when I discovered that offline access did not work, and I've only encoutered more bugs since then. The user interface of the desktop app is an awful, bug-riddled and quirky interface. It isn't just small problems though, it will discard any changes you've made to records (thus blowing away that new password you just set). It has inconsistent update behavior and weird select behavior. Generating a new password requies at least 10 clicks, some of them on very tiny little icons that don't even make sense. THe whole process is a total mystery. There is no quality assurance or testing being done on this app. I tried to teach my (60+ y/o) grandparents how to use this, to help them use a password manager and get security smart. LastPass was so awful that they gave up and ended up using a piece of paper and a pencil. Thanks for promoting worse security through bad design.

Other applicatons work better and are less FRUSTRATING!

I just started a new job, and my company offers LastPass as its only approved password manager. This application and chrome extension are terrible. The interface is not intuitive at all, the application and extension don't seem to talk to each other. Meaning you can have the application open and launch a website but the LastPass chrome extension isn't' logged in and will re-prompt you for your master password. I have tons of URL that are uniquely named but have the same domain...last past CONSTANTLY populates the wrong usernames and passwords with a unique URL's. When I change a password, the application does not always recognize that a password change and will not prompt you to save it...even though you used it to generate the password for you. I'm constantly having to double re-set passwords and then manually edit my LastPass entry with the updated password. Instead of using this application I've resorted to keeping an encrypted document on my desktop with my passwords on my desktop as its faster to cut and paste than use this tool. There are other tools that work much better thant his one, I assume its popular becuase its free for most users.

Hi there, I'm new to the whole iPadOS thing and tried to search for my issue but didn't seem to find any other posts or solutions. As soon as I connect my iPad Pro 11" (2021) to the Magic Keyboard the option to autofill passwords is not shown anymore. I tested Safari & Firefox, in neither of them did it work. If I take the iPad of the Magic Keyboard, the touch keyboard including the option to autofill my saved passwords reappears. Is this supposed to happen like that? I mean I can handle it with the multitasking & 1Password but it would be much more convenient to autofill them directly from the browser. Regards, SpicyTrigger.

I have the same when i connect a Bluetooth keyboard. I think this happens because of security reasons, otherwise you could bypass the autofill by connecting a keyboard.

There should be a little horizontal bar at the bottom that gives you the option to auto fill passwords even with a physical keyboard connected. See if you can enable predictive typing and have the bar appear again.

I'd turned off predictive typing as I don't like it. If you have a keyboard attached to your iPad, to get the password dialogue box (which I get on my iPhone (iOS 15 & 16) to come up on iPadOS 16, predictive typing must be enabled. I'm just writing the above hint in a very clear way for anyone else who stumbles on this post.
