2022 Winnebago Revel Camper Van: Specs, Price & Review

The new Winnebago Revel Class B RV has just been launched last fall and RVBusiness has given it the recognition as 2021’s Top RV Debut. We’re also intrigued by what it has to offer so let’s all take a look at this four-wheel-drive’s features and reviews to find out what the hype is all about.

Introduction to 2021 Winnebago Revel

Revel is one of Winnebago’s Class B motor homes that promises to take your adventures further. It lets you stay off grid with two 125-amp hour LiFePO batteries. The interiors have been built to last and for easy maintenance while the exterior offers functionality and additional space to level up your camping experience.

Revel will allow you to sleep, work, and play without making everything complicated. It is also ergonomically designed so that you’ll be comfortable as you travel.

2021 Winnebago Revel Construction

The 2021 Winnebago Revel is built on a Mercedes-Benz® Sprinter Chassis. It is powered by a 3.0l 6-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produces 188 hp. It is coupled with 7G-Tronic automatic transmission and 220-amp. alternator.

Winnebago Revel 4 x 4 comes with on-demand 4 wheel drive with Hi/Lo range, electronic stability, and traction control for enhanced driving performance. The 4-wheel ABS brakes provide drivers with more control when steering the vehicle in different directions. It also comes with a 7-pin wiring connector to improve your safety on the road.

This Class B RV has a towing capacity of up to 5,000-lb. This means you can bring your man toys with you when you travel. More fun, right?

The Winnebago Revel 4 x 4 can be upgraded so that you can get performance wheels and BF Goodrich® T/A® KO2 all-terrain tires which are recommended for better performance and ride quality.

Its fuel tank has a 24.5 gallon capacity and the vehicle has an average of 18 to 22 mpg on the highway which mean you can go further without having to keep worrying if you’ll make it until the next fuel station.

The Revel 4 x 4 drive is available in 2 full body paint colors – Pebble Grey or Blue Grey. You also have the option to get it with or without the printed graphics.

There are running boards at the bottom with ground effect lighting and rubber trim to give it more character and swag.

The rear mud guards protect your vehicle from dirt and debris which are important especially when you traverse off the beaten tracks.

Solar power system is helpful when you want to stay off-grid as you can still enjoy the comforts provided by your RV appliances or even do your work in the middle of nowhere without shore power. 2021 Winnebago Revel Interior Design And Features

Revel’s dashboard is armed with all the features that a driver needs for navigating the roads safely. At the center is the MBUX® touchscreen multimedia infotainment center with navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot, intelligent voice control, and rear camera. There’s also a charging station and 12-volt power points for your devices.

You’ll also enjoy these conveniences while driving- the DISTRONIC PLUS® for adaptive cruise control, power steering with tilt wheel, high beam assist, active brake assist, active lane keeping assist, blind spot assist, and traffic sign assist. It makes driving easier and safer.

Revel also has power mirrors with defrost settings and turn signals and power door locks with remote. There’s also a rain sensor with integrated wet wiper system for better visibility on the road.

The cab seats have armrests, adjustable lumbar support and adjustable headrest. The seats have 3-point seat belts and airbags for your protection.

They can slide, recline, and swivel which are great features especially when you’ve already parked and want to lounge inside this motor home. You can use the sunvisors and the folding privacy screens at the cab door windows to shield yourself from the glare of the sun.

It also comes with an Appliqué package to decorate the cab.

At the upper portion of the cab is a shelf that you can use to store your travel stuff. It makes good use of available space for storage solutions. You can find Ram® Tough-Track™ mounts in different parts of the unit where you can place your devices for entertainment or other purposes.

The side entrance to the motor home uses keyless entry with remote. There’s also an entry door assist handle for support.

The systems monitor panel makes RV life such a breeze. Just one look at this board and you’ll know which systems need your attention.

The tinted dual-pane euro acrylic windows have cassette shades that you can open to let fresh air enter the camper. They are properly angled so that they can stay open even when it’s raining outside and the rain won’t get inside the van.

There’s also a deluxe powered ventilator fan with rain cover to keep you cool. You can also upgrade to a Coleman®-Mach® 10 NDQ air conditioner with directional vents, Bluetooth® control and built-in thermostat to make you more comfortable especially during the hot summer months.

But when the weather is chilly, you can rely on its hydronic heating system with LED touchscreen panel to keep you warm and cozy inside your mobile home.

A smart storage solution for the Revel 4 x 4 is the storage space below the floor. You can keep your travel gears and essentials inside so that there won’t be any clutter in your living space.

Revel has a 31″x26″ wet bath adjacent to the dinette. It has a shower with wall surround, flexible showerhead, and a shower curtain. It also has a swiveling cassette toilet. The powered roof vent ensures that air can circulate in this area and helps in keeping it dry.

In line with maximizing space, the wet bath is convertible into a storage closet when not in use especially when you’re in transit. There are 2 removable shelves and removable clothes rod to keep your stuff organized.

For the bedroom, Revel has a Power Lift Bed with molded pockets and zip storage below. Underneath, there’s a gear garage with six removable cargo tie-down anchors. This is perfect for your bikes.

There are reading lights in this area and a powered roof vent to keep the air circulating.

Below the power lift bed, you can also find the water center control panel. It contains all control valves and connection points so that you can have an efficient plumbing system.

What Floorplans Are Available On The 2021 Winnebago Revel?

The Winnebago Revel is only available in 1 floorplan, the 44E. It has a length of 19’7″ and has a sleeping capacity for 2 people. It is meant to be the vehicle equivalent of plug and play. Winnebago has designed the floorplan to be functional with minimal intervention from the user.

The cab seats and bench seat make up the living area at the front portion of the camper van. There’s an overhead storage at the cab area.

The kitchen is at the left side of the side entrance. The induction cooktop is stored inside the drawer. There’s a refrigerator and a pantry at the other side. A removable counter extension can be pulled right above the refrigerator. You can also access the fold-down outside table when the side door is open.

At the back of the bench seat is the wet bath that also serves as a gear closet. The bedroom is at the rear portion of the camper. It has a power lift bed with gear garage and storage below.

The 2018 Revel was based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Chassis and powered by a 3 liter 6-cylinder 188 hp diesel engine. It also had a 5 speed automatic Tip Shift transmission and 220 amp alternator.

Its interior features included a powered patio awning with LED lights, swivel cab seats, pull up table, dual pane acrylic awning windows, Power Lift bed, hydronic heating system, and an all-in-one gear closet and wet bath. The kitchen had a single burner induction range top, stainless steel sink, pantry, laminate countertop with flip-up extension, and 2.5 cu. ft. compressor driven refrigerator/freezer.

The first version of Revel had a 140 cu. ft. storage under the bed with cargo tie-down anchors. The cabinets came in 2 options – Kool Kiwi or Silver Springs. These finished complemented the interior’s motif.

It also came in 1 floorplan with almost the same configuration as the latest Revel except that it didn’t have an overhead shelf at the cab area and the location of the fridge was different.

We currently find ourselves in something of a golden age for luxury trailers, which has made it easier than ever to take your life on the road without sacrificing many, and in some cases any, of the comforts of home. And now, there are plenty of manufacturers and dedicated conversion shops giving the same treatment to vans and other similar vehicles. They may not be able to sleep as many people as their hulking cousins—with one key exception—but these all-in-one wonders come loaded with perks such as high-end kitchens, Wi-Fi-enabled multimedia systems, and plush beds. Airstream. Thankfully, the company isn’t afraid to branch out. Just look at the  Interstate 24X , the trailer maker’s attempt to take the camper van to new heights. Built on the bones of a  Mercedes-Benz  Sprinter—like a lot of the models on this list—the vehicle has everything you need to rough it in comfort. Airstream has done a lot to maximize space in its climate-controlled cabin. A modular dining table doubles as a desk, and it can be easily converted into the largest sleeping area in a Class B Motorhome. There’s also a full mini kitchen and bathroom. You can take the van off-roading, too. In addition to a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6 engine that churns out 188 hp and 325 ft lbs of torque, it also comes equipped with four-wheel drive, a height-adjustable suspension and all-terrain tires. Pricing for the all-around beast starts at $213,850.

Jayco is best known for its hulking travel trailers, but like Airstream, it can do compact, too (well, compact enough to fit in a parking space, that is). The US company’s new  Terrain  model, which starts at $192,000, is an adventure van designed for those who like to veer from the beaten path. As the name suggests, it’s designed for off-roading, with a turbo-diesel V-6, Koni shocks, a rear stabilizer and a rear hitch strong enough to tow an additional trailer if you need more room. Inside, it’s a little spartan compared to some other options on this list, but its kitchenette can be converted into a sleeping area with room for a full-size bed, as well as plenty of storage space beneath. There’s even a built-in awning when you need some shade in the summer months.

Mercedes-Benz clearly doesn’t want to relinquish its title as the go-to van maker for outdoor lovers. At last year’s Düsseldorf Caravan Salon, the German marque showed off a prototype based on its upcoming all-electric EQT van called the Marco Polo. The stylish EV has everything you need for a weekend at the campground and is more compact than the ubiquitous Sprinter. When the van’s rear seats are folded down, the back can be used as either a sleeping area with room for a double bed or a cooking and entertaining space. The kitchen doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of some of the other entries on this list, but it does have a pull-out stove, fridge and sink. There’s also a pop-up, roof-mounted tent if your travel party includes more than two. The Marco Polo is a concept, but Mercedes will sell a module that will allow you to turn any EQT into a camper van when the $51,500 EV goes on sale in the spring.

The Winnebago Solis is for adventurers who don’t want to be confined to the campground. The van is available with an optional power kit that has everything a group of up to four adults needs to spend a few days off-the-grid. The setup, which includes an inverter, a shore battery converter, a battery energy converter, a solar energy converter and an alternator energy optimizer, can produce enough power to keep the van and all its features running for up to 72 hours. On top of that, the van features a kitchenette, a convertible entertainment area with room for a double bed, and a full-width wet bath.

If you like to mix biking and camping, Outside Van has the vehicle for you. The Portland brand’s  Tails  model is a camper van designed with cyclists in mind. The van, which is based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, has everything you need for a few days away from home, including a kitchenette, a roll-over sofa and a convertible mattress. But what really sets it apart is the rear of the vehicle that’s basically an on-the-go bicycle repair shop, with a fold-down work table, an air compressor and Molle panels to hang all your tools. If that wasn’t enough, it somehow has room for six bikes, even when the bed is laid out for the night.

This latest offering from Storyteller Overland, based in Birmingham, Ala., is a true adventure van. The  Beast Mode 4×4  is the outfit’s most feature-packed model yet and was designed specifically for overlanding (as you may have guessed from the company’s name). It’s a true 4×4 powered by a 188 hp turbodiesel V-6 that’s strong enough to tow an additional 5,000 pounds. Its slick retro-style livery is offset with loads of useful off-roading gear, too, such as an LED light package, a roof rack and a side ladder and custom wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich K02 tires. Inside, you’ll find everything you need to relax after a day of exploring, including a cushy lounge that can be converted to a full-size sleeping area. There’s even a climate-control system to ensure you’re comfortable no matter the weather outside. It’s priced at a flat $198,746, for everything listed above.

Let’s get this out of the way: the Loki Expeditions Discovery Series isn’t technically a camper van. It’s a giant expedition vehicle, but because its cabin is installed directly onto a heavy-duty truck chassis you also don’t need anything to tow it. The vehicle’s cabin is what separates it from anything else on this list. Loki Expeditions has turned a shipping container—yes, you read that right—into a full-featured living space that has all the amenities you’d expect to find in a luxury apartment, including a full kitchen with a large fridge, an entertainment area with a U-shaped banquet, and a wet bath with a cassette toilet. It’s also big enough to sleep six adults, with room for two in the dedicated bedroom and four in the entertainment area. And because the heavy-duty vehicle, which starts at $550,000, has all-wheel drive, you can take it practically anywhere.

Looking for an EV you can take to the campground. The upcoming EQV just might fit the bill. Despite its relatively compact size—it’s smaller than the ever-popular Sprinter—Dutch camping outfit Tonke has managed to outfit it with everything you need to spend some time communing with nature. It has an entertainment area that doubles as a workspace along with a kitchenette, both of which can be converted into a two-person sleeping area with a simple flip of a bench (a roof-mounted, pop-up tent means it can sleep two more, too). Best of all, there are two variants available—the Touring, which is designed for long road trips, and the Adventure, which is aimed at casual campers.

Best for G-Wagen Lovers: Terracamper Tecrawl 

The Tecrawl isn’t a camper van per se, but it’s hard to leave something this cool off a list like this. Terracamper’s latest offering is based on one of Mercedes-Benz’s most legendary vehicles, the G-Wagen . The German shop has dreamed up a modular accessory kit for the luxury 4×4, that starts at $11,900 and includes a roof-mounted tent, a convertible sofa, and a pull-out kitchenette with a fridge box. Thanks to the ingenious setup, the boxy SUV can sleep up to three and act as your home base next time you want to rough it for the weekend. And because it’s a G-Wagen you can take it as far off-road as you want.

Thor Motor Coach makes camper vans for those uninterested in making sacrifices. With the  Sanctuary , the company has taken Mercedes-Benz’s already excellent Sprinter 2500 4×4 and turned it into something you could easily live on—on or off the grid. The off-road-ready vehicle comes in two configurations—the 19P ($148,680), which features a back bench that converts into a bed, or the 19L ($151,060), which has a fixed double bed. Even with the bed there’s still plenty of room for other creature comforts, including a bathroom, an entertainment area with a TV and a kitchen with a sink, a dual-burner cooktop, a convection microwave oven and a fridge. An Onan 2500 LP generator keeps everything up and running, too, including an A/C system you can leave on for eight hours at a time. There’s also retractable power awning when you want to spend some time outdoors.

Caravan Outfitter’s third-generation Free Bird isn’t the most feature-laden camper van out there, but it has everything you and the family need to spend a weekend (or more) at the campground. The van, which starts at $50,810, is built on the relatively compact Ford Transit Connect platform but still has room for a full-size bed, a multi-purpose table that can be used as a dinette or workstation, and a pull-out kitchenette with a sink. 7 Things to Know About Winnebago

The first name in camping has become a name for all RVs. Winnebago has been associated with the recreational vehicle industry for over 60 years. Its long and successful history has created a reputation for dependable vehicles that stand the test of time.

In fact, some use the term “Winnebago” to describe just about any RV today.

But we think the company deserves some specific attention! Let’s see what an American institution representing the RV lifestyle looks like from the inside out.

What Is Winnebago? 

Winnebago Industries is an outdoor lifestyle company that manufactures recreational vehicles and boats. It makes Class A, B, and C motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels. Plus it also makes pontoons and powerboats.

Winnebago has been a leading builder of vehicles that travel on land and water for more than 64 years. Their brands include Winnebago RV, Criss-Craft, Newmar, Grand Design RV, and Barletta.

The History of Winnebago

Winnebago got its name from the county that manufactured the first travel trailers. John K. Hanson founded the company in 1958 in Forest City, Iowa. To control costs and improve quality, the company began to make its own furniture for its signature trailers. This quickly became a standard practice.

The first motorhome became available eight years after the company’s founding for half the price of its competitors. This of course made Winnebago RVs instantly popular. Soon Class A models like the Brave and Chieftain were seen around the country. By 1973 the manufacturer had released the Minnie Winnie, a 19’ Class C built on a van chassis.

Over the years, Winnebago has followed the trends in the RV industry like producing large diesel pusher Class A vehicles and smaller travel trailers. They were the first to push a Class B van to center stage with their Travato. It was built on a Dodge Promaster chassis. And their newer van, the Revel, has become the off-road vehicle of choice by many. 

The company thinks outside the box by routinely contracting with other manufacturers to create new recreational vehicles. For instance, a joint venture with Volkswagen had Winnebago build the German company’s Rialto model. The two produced a diesel-powered RV that crossed the lines between a Class A and Class B vehicle. You’ll still see several on the road today.

By 2016, Winnebago expanded its recreational vehicle offerings by purchasing the existing brand of Grand Design RV. This added high-quality fifth wheels, toy haulers, and travel trailers to their lineup. 

And by 2018, the company moved into powerboats. They bought Chris-Craft, a manufacturer of handcrafted premium boats. The following year Winnebago added the luxury motorcoach brand, Newmar, to its stable. Finally, in 2021 they established pontoon boat builder Barletta as another acquisition.

With such an established company as Winnebago, sometimes the details get lost in all of the fluff. So we’ve drilled down to the bare necessities to give you seven things to know about America’s most popular RV manufacturer:

1. Who Owns Winnebago?

Winnebago Industries is a publicly-traded company on the New York Stock Exchange using the stock symbol WGO. Michael Happe is the current CEO that overseas Winnebago.

They employ over 2,850 people at four manufacturing facilities and administrative offices.

2. Where Are Winnebago Made?

Winnebagos were first manufactured in Forest City, Iowa, within Winnebago County. As their products grew in popularity, the company opened three other assembly line facilities.

These are located in Charles City, Lake Mills, and Waverly, Iowa. Recently, the company moved its headquarters to Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

3. Are Winnebago RVs Good Quality?

Depending upon the type of RV purchased, the prices of a Winnebago model can run from $38,000 to well over $450,000. Travel trailers are usually the least expensive.

They have an average MSRP of around $45,000. The Class A motorcoaches start at $175,000 and run to $450,000 before any upgrades. Finally, the Class B vans range from $115,000 to $205,000 without upgrades.

6. What Is the Most Popular Winnebago?

The Winnebago Travato has been the best-selling Class B van for several years. Its popularity stems from its gasoline-powered engine and thoughtful interior design. It has floorplans that include double-duty amenities and built-ins. Due to this, it is the perfect road trip van. It is a great choice for full-time RVing in a small package. 

However, a new RV model is inching up the ladder of success. Winnebago’s more recent entry in the Class B market, the Revel, has exploded onto the adventure van sector.

It’s a Sprinter van with a diesel engine. It was built to appeal to travelers who enjoy staying off-grid. Features include bump-outs for more bed space, all-wheel drive, and solar with all the bells and whistles.

If you’re looking for a camper van that goes beyond the generic off-the-rack models offered by many of today’s biggest RV manufacturers, you need a legit luxury camper van conversion . Arizona-based Boho takes standard Ram work vans and turns them into Instagram-worthy works of RV art. The Old Faithful is the company’s most popular model, and it’s easy to see why. The interior features wood paneling and warm lighting throughout, providing a homey, “relaxing in a sauna” vibe. The sleek design is thoughtfully bookended with a kitchenette near the cab and a spacious bedroom at the rear that opens with double doors so you can take in the vistas of your latest National Park campsite . Camper vans—especially luxury camper vans—are a serious investment. Here are the most important things to consider before dropping your six-figure nest egg on a vanlifing rig.

• Size and capacity : Above all else, you need to know that the camper vans you’re shopping for have the square footage to sleep you, your significant other, your kids, your pets, and whoever (or whatever) else you’re planning to take along for the ride. Most off-the-rack (i.e., non-DIY custom builds) rely on some version of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ram ProMaster, or Ford Transit vans. So, the dimensions of all three of those should provide a good starting point for you to shop.
• Features : As with buying a new car, there are dozens of features to consider. Today’s best camper vans, including many of those we recommend above, are tricked out with luxurious kitchenettes, full bathrooms, solar power systems, premium Bluetooth audio, and more. All of these high-end features can easily push the bottom line north of $200,000. Just know that, by forgoing some of these luxuries, you can easily get that figure down closer to $100,000 if you’re shopping on a budget.
• New vs. used : With the popularity of van living, there’s never been a better time to shop for a used camper van if you’re looking to save a bit of money. RVs, in general, depreciate much faster than traditional vehicles, so you can save 50% or more off the sticker price of a new van by buying when others are selling. Just keep in mind that many used vans won’t come with a manufacturer’s warranty, so it pays to be extremely thorough when you inspect the vehicle before buying.
• Insurance : RV insurance can be a little tricky. You’ll need to figure out whether your new van will be an occasional vacation driver or you’re planning to live in it full-time. The answer to this question will determine your insurance needs and the total yearly cost.

Of course, there is a lot more to consider. But these are just a few of the most important upfront considerations. The buying process might seem stressful, but keep your eyes on the prize: the freedom of exploring and potentially living on the open road for the foreseeable future.

If heading into the backcountry, you should always be prepared for survival. While part of that is carrying the right gear, you must know how to use it effectively.
