You can ride a bus from Manila to Baguio. Travel time is usually for 5 to 8 hours due to traffic. Here are your options:

Victory Liner is one of the most popular buses to ride to Baguio.  If you are in Manila, you can ride in the following terminals:

For those in Pampanga, you can ride from the Dau Bus Terminal. There are also first-class or deluxe busses from Cubao and Pasay. Please note that the deluxe and first-class rides have a restroom on board, which is very convenient for a long trip.  One-way fares start from PHP 126 for ordinary, 485 for air-conditioned buses, PHP 525 for deluxe, and PHP 800 for first class.

If you want luxury travel, Joy Bus is the best choice. In their 28-seater buses, you’ll enjoy comfortable chairs, onboard restroom, and Wi-Fi. Their main terminal is located in 704 EDSA, Cubao, Quezon City. But you can ride at the following stations:

• San Fernando, Pampanga

Choose between Deluxe Bus or Premier Executive Bus. The latter has an individual entertainment system, free water and biscuits, warm blanket, and more legroom than the former. The deluxe costs PHP 720, an additional PHP 20 for the premiere.   They also have semi-deluxe which costs PHP 650.00.

Travel from Manila to Baguio by Car or Van

If you want a hassle-free and private ride, you can drive your car or rent a van to Baguio. The plus side of this is you can use it to travel inside the city; it will save you transportation costs on taxis or PUV in the town.

If you want to go there by car, you can use Google Maps for assistance. From Manila, people usually use the NLEX (North Luzon Express Way) and proceed to SCTEX via Exit 85. Drive to MacArthur Highway until you arrive in Rosario, La Union.

There are two roads to Baguio the zig-zag Kennon Road and the wider Marcos Highway. The fastest route to Baguio is via Kennon Road; it will be a challenging drive as you will turn every meter. It also offers the best views. Marcos Highway also provides a scenic view of the South China Sea as well, and the roads are also much wider. However, it has a steeper incline than the Kennon Road. For low-powered cars, it’s better to use the Kennon Road rather than the Marcos Highway.

You can also rent a Van to Baguio. There are van rentals for travel from Manila to Baguio; some includes tour packages already. A perk about the van is that you’ll have an expert driver on your side, and you and your companions can relax privately.

Rates range from PHP 3,500 – 10,000 a day. The longer you rent, the cheaper you’ll pay. You can get as low as PHP 18,000 for five days; however, for this rate diesel and fees are not yet included. You’ll need to search for a car and a package that suits you. Check online as there are many van rental websites for Manila to Baguio Route.

Travel from Manila to Baguio by Plane

So far, there are no flights from Manila to Loakan Airport. However, the old airport is said to be on repair to accommodate commercial flights. Hopefully, it will push through so that it’s easier for those who come from Visayas, Mindanao, and other parts of Luzon to visit.

Need a weekend break away from the city? With the easing of travel requirements this 2022, it’s about time for us to plan our long-awaited trips with friends and revisit the City of Pines.

Baguio City is always a wonderful place to visit for recreation because of the city's soothing and chilly ambiance.

Those who don't have private cars or are on a budget can still easily go to Baguio by taking the bus, with ticket booking easily available online. But since Baguio is a popular destination especially during the holiday season, it’s best to plan your trips and book your bus tickets in advance.

With travel time ranging from 4-7 hours depending from your point of origin in Manila, you can easily reach the City of Pines by boarding buses like Victory Liner and Genesis Transport from Cubao, Pasay, or Sampaloc. 

Here are some of bus options you can choose from for a perfect weekend getaway.

Option 1 (Bus via Genesis Transport & Victory Liner, Cubao)  

• Ride the LRT 2 or MRT 3 train and choose ‘Araneta Center Cubao’ terminal station as your drop off point.  
• From there, you can choose from any of these modes of travel in heading to the bus terminal stations.   
• Ride a jeepney and state ‘Baliwag’ station as your drop-off point. From there, you can either take a 3-minute walk to Victory Liner station or a 5-minute walk to Genesis Transport station.  
• Take a 10-minute walk to Victory Liner station or a 15-minute walk to Genesis Transport station.  
• If you choose to travel via Genesis Transport, you can ride on their subsidiary bus line named JoyBus. And if you choose to be on Victory Liner’s bus, you can easily proceed right away.  
• Submit your purchased ticket, take a seat, and enjoy the ride on your way to Baguio.  

Option 2 (Bus via Genesis Transport & Victory Liner, Pasay)    

• Ride the LRT 1 train and choose ‘Baclaran’ terminal station as your drop off point.  
• From there, you can either:  
• Take a 13-minute walk and head towards Victory Liner Pasay terminal; or  
• Take a 3-minute walk and head towards Genesis Transport Pasay terminal. You can ride on their subsidiary bus line named JoyBus.  
• Submit your bus ticket to Baguio and you’re good to go.  

Option 3 (Bus via Genesis Transport & Victory Liner, Sampaloc)    

• From Araneta Center Cubao, ride the LRT 2 train and choose ‘Legarda’ as your drop off point.  
• Take a 7-minute walk to Victory Liner Sampaloc station once you have arrived.  
• Give your bus ticket and you’re now headed to Baguio.  

Victory Liner operates a 24-hour transportation schedule with hourly intervals per trip and offers two types of bus accommodations: the regular air conditioned bus and the first class bus.  

The first class bus includes free snacks, spacious legroom, on-board restroom, television, and even electric sockets. Be reminded that their terminal in Sampaloc only offers the regular ones. In order to book your tickets online, you can purchase them on their website .  

Bus fares vary on your chosen type of accommodation as well as the location of the terminal where you will board. This is also applicable to Genesis Transport’s JoyBus.    

Just like Victory Liner, JoyBus also offers two bus accommodations to their passengers. These are the deluxe bus class and the premier executive bus class.     

The premier executive bus really brings comfort with its chairs with spacious legroom, an individual entertainment system, warm blanket, on-board restroom, snacks, a bus attendant, and internet connection that comes on the bus ticket that you pay for.  

And although the price is a bit lower than the premier one, the deluxe bus is still certain to give you a comfortable ride to Baguio with its lazy chair, LCD TV, on-board restroom, a bus attendant, and internet connection that will keep you entertained and relaxed throughout the ride.    

To buy bus tickets online via Genesis Transport’s JoyBus, you can proceed by booking them on this website .  

Option 4 (Point-To-Point bus via Pangasinan Solid North Transit, PITX)    

• Take a 13-minute walk to Q. Mart.  
• From there, hop on to one of the EDSA Carousels headed to PITX.  
• Once you reach PITX, proceed to the second (2nd) floor, gate one (1) for Solid North Transit.  
• Walk-ins are entertained but you can also buy your tickets online via www.biyaheroes.com    

Pangasinan Solid North Transit Point-to-Point buses are one of the fastest and most convenient modes of transportation when going to Baguio. There will be no stops as the bus is solely bound from Manila to Baguio and vice versa only.  

Experience comfort and convenience as the P2P buses are equipped with an on-board comfort room, 2X2 seat recliner, entertainment system, internet connection, stackable tray table, air conditioner, CCTV and an overhead bin. They also offer the luxury bus which has lazy boy seats and the other inclusions aforementioned.  

Tme intervals for the deluxe bus scheduled trips are: 6 AM,  8 AM,  10 AM,  2 PM,  4 PM .

Meanwhile, the luxury bus scheduled trips are as follows:   2 AM,  4 AM,  7 AM ,  12 NN,  9 PM and 11:30 PM.

How to get around in Baguio

Once you get to Baguio, it's easy enough to get around. Taxis are your most reliable partner when it comes to this trip, but if you want to save some cash, there are other options.

With Baguio’s Hop-on, hop-off (HoHo) buses, you can get to key tourist sites and help decongest traffic by ditching private vehicles.

The HoHo buses are back on track every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This project started with the goal of easing the traffic around Baguio especially during the times where tourists have joined the crowd in the city.    

With this, private vehicles are minimized while passengers have a hassle-free ride to famous landmarks around Baguio.  

Passes to HoHo buses are only available for private vehicle owners, who have parked their cars at the Baguio Convention & Cultural Center’s designated parking areas, with a sanctioned fee which varies depending on the type of vehicle that you drove. A VISITA QTP or tourist pass will be given to guarantee their access.  

This project is in line with their tagline “Park and Ride” which entails them to the initiative of decongesting traffic jams along with the tourists in Baguio.  

Listed below are the destinations that the HoHo buses will follow for its route:  

• Botanical Garden (First stop)  
• Mansion House (Second stop)  
• Mines View Park (Third stop)  
• Wright Park (Fourth stop)  

The HoHo bus will exit at the Governor Pack Road where tourists may walk and roam around the central business district and even take a break at Burnham Park.

For local visitors, summertime is the ideal time to visit Baguio. Filipinos living in the lowland regions such as Metro Manila flock to Baguio during the sweltering summer months of March, April, and May. 

Additionally, Baguio receives a significant amount of visitors during February for its annual flower festival, the Panagbenga Festival.

Panagbenga Festival is a flower festival celebrated in Baguio every February. Panagbenga Festival was first held in the early 1990s as a celebration of Baguio’s abundant flower harvest and as a way to uplift the locals from the devastating 1990 earthquake that hit the city.

The highlight of the month-long festivity are parades of intricate and vibrant floats decked with the best blooms from the flower farms of the Cordillera.

Another attraction you can look forward to are the local street dancers garbed in brightly-colored flower costumes influenced by the many indigenous tribes around Baguio and the Cordillera Region.

In fact, the term “Panagbenga” means  “season of blooming” in the language of the Kankanaey−one of the indigenous peoples of the Cordillera.  

If you want to immerse yourself in Baguio’s colorful and diverse culture, there’s no better time to visit than during the Panagbenga Festival in February.

Thanks to Baguio’s highland location, the city maintains a cool temperature even during these months. The temperature in Baguio during the summer has an average high of 23°C and a low of 15°C. This is still pretty cold compared to the rest of the Philippines during the summer.

These months also receive the least rainfall, making it the best time range to explore Baguio tourist spots. If you’re in the country during the summer and want a quick reprieve from the heat, head to Baguio!

Just like the rest of the Philippines, Baguio has two seasons, the dry season and the wet season. However, Baguio weather does not vary drastically in terms of monthly average temperature compared to the rest of the country.

The dry summer season has an average daily high temperature of 23°C and a low of 15°C, while the wet season has an average daily high temperature of 22°C and a low of 13 °C. Thanks to the high elevation of Baguio, the temperature difference throughout the year is minimal.

However, it’s a different story when it comes to rainfall. The amount of rain Baguio receives throughout the year varies significantly. The dry months start in November and last through May.

January receives the least amount of rainfall and has the least chance of rain. On the other hand, the rainy season starts in June and lasts through early October, with August as the rainiest month.

Unlike island destinations in the Philippines, the rainy season won’t stop you from enjoying Baguio attractions to the fullest. Although it gets even colder than usual during the rainy months, it can easily be remedied by bringing thicker cold-weather clothing.

What to Wear 

Unlike the rest of the Philippines, Baguio is exceptionally cold at any time of the year − even during the summer season!  Although the Philippines does not technically have winter, you will want to wear and pack winter clothes when visiting Baguio.

Bring a thick jacket or sweater, and perhaps a pair of gloves, a bonnet, and a scarf. Wear warm and thick clothes made of wool or fleece, and go with sneakers instead of open-toe footwear. 

If you plan to go around Baguio during the early hours of the morning or late in the evening, don’t be afraid to layer on. It is notably colder in the morning and evening. During the noontime, you can get away with a scarf or a light jacket, − especially if you’ll be walking around a lot.

How to Get to Baguio 

Visiting Baguio is now convenient and hassle-free, due to the numerous bus companies, terminals, and tours providing transport to the province. After booking cheap flights to Manila , travel time to Baguio from Manila is around 4-6 hours. Here are some of the best ways to go to Baguio:

From Pasay City

Both bus companies offer premier and deluxe-class seats and have routes to the Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway (TPLEX), North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), and Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).

From Avenida in Manila

Genesis Joy Bus and Philippine Rabbit Bus Lines have buses headed for Baguio at the Avenida Terminal in Manila. Both bus companies offer deluxe and semi-deluxe buses from Avenida to Baguio. These deluxe buses boast comfy couches with spacious legroom.

From Sampaloc in Manila

Victory Liner offers regular air-conditioned (AC)  buses headed for Baguio at their Sampaloc terminal in the city of Manila . As of now, first-class deluxe buses are not available yet. 

From Parañaque City

You can catch a ride to Baguio at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX). Solid North Transit ’s Baguio routes at PITX offers the first point-to-point (P2P) buses that ply Baguio to Manila. Aside from spacious seats, P2P buses do not have stop-overs and have toilets on board, which ensures you get to Baguio faster.

Starting December 16, 2022, Philippine Airlines will have 4 flights per week servicing the Cebu to Baguio (CEB to BAG) and Baguio to Cebu (BAG to CEB) routes. From Cebu, your plane will depart from Mactan-Cebu International Airport and will arrive at the newly-opened Loakan Airport or Baguio Airport. The airport in Baguio was temporarily closed but was announced to reopen by the end of December 2022. The reopening of the airport near Baguio City will also make other North Luzon destinations more accessible from Cebu and other Visayas tourist spots and destinations.

Mines View Park Route - Jeepneys with signages indicating Mines View will not only take you to Mines View Park, but also to The Mansion, Wright Park, and Good Shepherd Baguio. You can catch this jeepney at the Bakakeng Terminal in Perfecto Street near Burnham Park, along Session Road,  and at all the stops mentioned above. You can take this jeepney to go from one tourist spot to the other.

Scout Barrio Route - To get to Camp John Hay, go to the Bakakeng terminal on the east side of Burnham Park along Perfecto Street. The walk from Burnham Park to this terminal will only take 3 minutes. Hop on a jeepney with a signage that says Scout Barrio, and asked to be dropped off at the gate to Camp John Hay.

Pacdal Route - Jeepneys with a Pacdal sign can take you to the Baguio Botanical Garden. You can catch the Pacdal jeepney at the Pacdal-Liteng Terminal at Lakandula Street. This terminal is just 3-5 minutes from Session Road. 

Long Long- Tam-Awan and Quezon Hill - Tam-Awan - If you’re heading to Tam-Awan Village, you can take jeepneys plying the Long Long to Tam-Awan or the Quezon Hill to Tam-Awan route.

You can find both jeepneys at the Guisad Jeepney Terminal along Kayang Street, near the Baguio Public Market. The terminal is 7 minutes away from Burnham Park on foot, and 3-5 minutes from Session Road.

La Trinidad Routes - There are two terminals from you can go to catch a jeepney to the famous strawberry farms of La Trinidad. You can head to the terminal along Shuntug Road in front of the Baguio City Hall, an 8-minute walk from Burnham Park.

Look for the jeepney heading to La Trinidad via Bokawkan. You can also opt to go to the La Trinidad Jeepney Terminal along Magsaysay Ave, which is an 11-minute walk from Burnham Park.

Asin Road Route - Jeepneys with signages indicating Asin Road head to BenCab Museum. You can catch this jeepney at the Guisad Jeepney Terminal along Kayang Street, near the Baguio Public Market. You can reach this terminal from Burnham Park by walking as it is only 7 minutes away on foot. 

One of the most common means for getting around in Baguio is by riding a regular taxi. There are a lot of taxis in Baguio. You can hail one practically anywhere; near bus terminals and around the popular Baguio attractions.

This native restaurant near Tam-Awan Village serves simple home-cooked regional cuisine centered on smoked meats, fresh vegetables, and native wines.

The Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant employs native cooking techniques and uses only the freshest local ingredients. If you want to experience true Cordilleran cooking in the outskirts of Baguio, there’s no better place than at Farmer’s Daughter Restaurant.

Good Taste Café & Restaurant

If you’re looking for affordable restaurants in Baguio, look no further than Good Taste Cafe & Restaurant. This popular diner is only three minutes away from Burnham Park.  It is a 24/7 restaurant that serves food influenced by Chinese cuisine. Aside from meals, they also have a bakery and pastry shop.

Good Taste’s best-selling dishes include Lechon Chopsuey, buttered chicken, Lumpiang Shanghai, and beef broccoli. They also serve free unlimited hot soup, which is perfect for Baguio weather.

Aside from their delicious dishes, Good Taste is also known for its generous servings. If you’re traveling with family or a group of friends, bring them to Good Taste for a hearty meal.

Cafe by the Ruins

One of the oldest restaurants in Baguio, Cafe by the Ruins serves authentic local dishes that showcase the region’s culture. The cafe is located along Shuntug road, just a few minutes away from Session Road and Burnham Park.

Their specialties include the Baguio Bagnet with Padas Bagoong, Carabao Cheese Salad, Strawberry Smoothie and home-brewed Tapuey (highland rice wine). Cafe by the Ruins is also well-loved for their champorado (sweet chocolate rice porridge), home-made bacon, Ruins coffee and signature camote bread. 

Glenn 50’s Diner

Glenn 50’s Dinner is a famous retro-style dining joint tucked inside Porta Varga Mall along Session Road. Once you enter the 50’s Diner, you will be greeted with retro music on repeat, neon lights, and posters of Hollywood celebrities from that era plastered on the walls. 

More importantly, 50’s diner serves the typical American diner fare. Their must-tries include the Famous 50’s Burger, Pancake Tower, Steak, and Strawberry Shakes.

The local favorites are Mama’s Kidd (a chicken, spaghetti, fries, and rice combo), and Guys on the Hood ( a pork chop, spaghetti, fried chicken, pizza, and rice combo). Not only are the servings generous, but they are also very budget-friendly.

Baguio Craft Brewery

For beer lovers, no trip to Baguio is complete without passing by Baguio Craft Brewery. This home-grown watering hole serves fresh and unique craft beers like Lagud Strawberry Beer, Rolling Fog Wheat Ale and Zigzagger IPA. If you’re undecided on which beer to order, you can ask for one free taste of each beer selection.

Aside from their delightful artisan beers, Baguio Craft Brewery also offers beer and food pairings that give the beer another dimension of taste.  Another thing Baguio Craft Brewery is proud of is that their brews do not contain additives and will not give you a hangover. 

Situated along Marcos highway, the Baguio Craft Brewery is a great place to meet and mingle with locals and fellow travelers.

Hill Station

Hill Station has long been a homegrown favorite for Asian-European inspired dishes. This fine-dining lodge-style restaurant located in the same complex as the historic Casa Vallejo Hotel along Upper Session Road.

Hill Station offers an eclectic selection of Asian and Continental. Their best-sellers also include dishes like Crispy Belly Pork with Holy Basil and Dulong Pasta.  You should also not pass up on their home-made Benguet coffee ice cream. If you want a fine dining experience in Baguio, try Hill Station.

Cafe Sabel is the in-house restaurant of the BenCab Museum on Asin Road. It is about 30-40 minutes away from the city proper is a vibrant cafe that offers meals with a relaxing view of a garden, forest and duck pond. 

The restaurant makes use of vegetables and herbs sourced fresh daily from BenCab’s organic farm. Bestsellers here include the Farm Fresh Salad with strawberry vinaigrette dressing and Grilled Pork Chop with Rosemary.

For dessert, try the Volcano Ice Cream, a serving of Vanilla Ice Cream topped with chocolate sauce and fresh strawberries.

Vizco’s 

When in Baguio, you shouldn't miss the chance to stop by Vizco’s and try the best strawberry shortcake. Vizco’s is conveniently located along Session Road, so you have no excuse not to sample one of Baguio’s top strawberry treats. They also have a branch in Camp John Hay.

Aside from being a bakery, Vizcos also has a restaurant where they offer meals at a great price point. Head to Vizco’s for a hearty meal and an indulgent slice of strawberry shortcake.

For a hassle-free and convenient trip to Baguio, it's important to read up on practical tips. These will come in handy if it’s your first time in Baguio. 

All establishments in Baguio accepts payments in Philippine Peso (PHP). Although a lot of establishments accept credit cards, it is still better to always carry cash with you.

You can find several ATMs and money changers in the city center, especially along Session Road.  Before heading to tourist spots outside of the city proper (ex. La Trinidad Strawberry Farm, BenCab Museum, and Tam-awan Village), be sure to withdraw or have your money changed to PHP while you're in Session Road.

Many Baguio locals are multilingual. The majority can speak three languages; Filipino Ilocano, and English. Others can speak several native dialects such as Kankana-ey, Ibaloi, Ifugao, and Kapampangan.

Rest assured, most residents have a functional command of English.  So don't be afraid to ask questions or directions. Say hi/hello first when approaching them to establish a friendly tone. Who knows? You might earn a new friend in the process.

Unlike the rest of the Philippines, Baguio is cold all year-round. Even if you’re visiting Baguio during the summer, be sure to pack thick warm clothes, socks, and gloves.

As mentioned, the Philippines does not have winter, but you will want to pack winter clothes when visiting Baguio. Bring outerwear made of wool or fleece, and sneakers instead of sandals.

Baguio is particularly cold during the early hours of the morning and when night falls. Although it is still cold during the day, you can still break a sweat if you’re walking around a lot. Hence, you also want to bring a light jacket for your noon excursions.

How to Get to Baguio

Whether you’re departing from Pasay or Cubao, both terminals have buses going to Baguio. Victory Liner has the most number of trips, operating almost 24 hours a day. You can even choose between the regular AC or the special bus. Choose carefully because it will take you anywhere from 4 to 6 hours to get to Baguio. Plan your travel ahead of time by  booking online .

How to Get Around Baguio

Once there, your transport options are either hailing a jeep or a taxi. Jeeps are the cheaper yet slower option, with a minimum fare of 9 PHP. There will be plenty of stops and the routes might be confusing for tourists. On the other hand, taxis are costlier but more convenient because they will take you straight to your destination. The base rate starts at 35 PHP, with an additional 2 PHP for every 100 meters.

The usual travel time to Manila is 5-6 hours depending on which part of Manila you are coming from. Regular buses usually have 1 stopover and take NLEX or SCTEX. Insider tip: if you want faster transport to Baguio with no stopovers, book P2P buses with Pangasinan Solid north Transit.

From Manila, there are daily buses from Cubao, Pasay, Caloocan, PITX and Sampaloc that goes to Baguio City. The usual bus lines that offers this route are Victory Liner, Genesis and Solid North. There are daily and hourly schedules depending on the bus companies. The usual fare will range from PHP700-800.00.

How to Get Around in Baguio City DIY Way

Getting around Baguio City is neither hard nor tricky. Almost all destinations are literally walking distance or 5 minutes away from one destination to the other. You can ride a jeepney , walk , charter a taxi or rent a private car/van .

Special Events & Activities

Panagbenga festival.

The Panagbenga Festival of Flower Festival is one of the most famous festivals in the Philippines. It is held every month of February in the summer capital of the Philippines. One of the activities you should not be missing during the festival is the flower float parade where local Philippine artists are invited to celebrate the festival with the locals and tourists.

Another is the Session in Bloom that only opens every month of February in honor of the festival month. The Session Road is being closed and various stores and food outlets are opened here. Look out for foot-long hotdogs and shawarma rice during the Session in Bloom!

Christmas Villages

During the month of December , Christmas Village opens as well. The Manor and Baguio Country Club has a Christmas Village event and there’s an entrance fee of approximately PHP200.00 per person. In here, they create artificial snow and a theme of a Christmas Village. Alternatively, Burnham Park has its own Christmas Village and it’s FREE admission.

Lantern Parade

Another special event that happens every December 1st is the Lantern Parade by the Saint Louis University – my Alma mater. This is a parade of colorful lanterns in different colors, shapes and sizes partnered with the students’ colorful costumes.

A word of advise, better allow 2-3 days stay in Baguio City. I know that most tour agencies offer a day trip in Baguio but that is surely not satisfying at all. Mirador Hill & Lourdes Grotto

The Mirador Hill is a 5-hectare Japanese inspired garden located just beside the Lourdes Grotto. And for the longest time, this garden had only been regarded to as the place beside the grotto. Nowadays, the Mirador Hill became an in demand tourist destination because of its beautiful and scenic panoramic view of the city.

Moreover, it is regarded to as the “ Little Japan ” in Baguio City because of the bamboo forest and the iconic Mirador Peace Memorial on top of the hill.

Stone Kingdom

The controversial Stone Kingdom has led so many tourists into this place for quite some time now. It is a place where you can admire the culture of the Igorots , ethnic group in the Cordillera Administrative Region. Sky Ranch Baguio

Baguio Cathedral

One of the famous Catholic Church in Baguio is Our Lady of the Atonement Cathedral, better known as Baguio Cathedral. It is located in Upper Session Rd. just ear SM Baguio.

Burnham Park

The oldest and most beautiful park in Baguio is the Burnham Lake Park. It’s a man-made park with a lake. They say that you’ve never really been to Baguio without riding boats in the park’s lake. Other things you can do here is to rent bicycles, watch kids playing soccer in Melvin Jones, buy a strawberry flavored taho , get a henna tattoo, roller skates and many more!

Diplomat Hotel

This tourist destination rose to fame around 2016 after being featured in TV episodes of Rated K and Jessica Soho. The reason behind it being featured is because it’s a haunted place. It is regarded as one of the most haunted places in Baguio City.

To give you a bit of information, this abandoned hotel was previously a church/seminary that transitioned into a hospital, and a hotel at the latter. Many incidents and theories happened here like the beheading of priests, a nurse committing suicide and the people who died when the hotel caught fire. Nowadays, the abandoned Diplomat Hotel no longer looks spooky compared to the days when it was not yet famous to tourists. This is because they have re-decorated and cleaned it due to the demand of tourists coming here. There’s even a chapel in the first floor that they have built.

There was a time when entering this place is not allowed and visitors are not welcome so we sneak our way in. During my college days, my classmates and I would come here for fun and look for ghosts at night. This is not joke and I dare anyone who’d do that will get instant goosebumps. But nowadays, it looks more of a photo-shoot place.

Strawberry Farm

Located 8 kilometers from Baguio is the famous strawberry farm where tourists love to go and pick fresh strawberries! Note that the strawberry season falls in the months of November – May. There is no entrance fee inside the strawberry farm. However, if you are going to pic strawberries there will be an entrance fee and it will depend on how many kilograms per basket you are picking.

Other unique thing you can do here is to try the organic strawberry ice cream!

Mines View Park

A perfect panoramic view of the mountains can be seen from Mines View Park’s deck. Best time to come here is early in the morning because if you’re lucky enough you’ll see a thick fog covering the hills. Another attraction in here is the famous St. Bernard dog where you can get a photo with him. There are horses available for photo-ops too. Beautiful collection of plants and other pasalubong can be bought here.

Note that the Good Shepherd store is just across the street. It’s where you can buy the famous ube jam and strawberry jam from Baguio City. Because when you say ube or strawberry jam in Baguio, it better be from Good Shepherd! Moreover, various pasalubongs can be bought here too.

Botanical Garden

A walk inside Botanical Garden is one of the relaxing things you can do in Baguio City. Some of the relevant sights that constructs a relaxing walk in the Botanical Garden are the flowers, trees, plants and small to large size of sculptures representing the local culture and traditions of the Igorots .

Other things you can do here is to take pictures with the native Igorots or ride a horse while touring around the place.

Kennon Road, Lion’s Head

The Mansion

Officially the summer palace of the President of the Philippines. To give you a bit of information, this building was built in 1908 as summer homes for US Government Officials and was destroyed in 1945 during the battle of the liberation of the Philippines. Later in 1947, it was rebuilt and became the house of the President whenever they come to Baguio.

Tip: this is just stones-throw away from Wright Park long pond.

Tam-awan Village

For best experience of accommodation in Ifugao, I highly suggest an overnight in a native Ifugao house! Bencab Museum

The BenCab Musuem is a brief 15-minute drive from the center of Baguio City. Artworks by BenCab & other noted Filipino artists, plus indigenous northern highlands exhibits are what you can expect here. There is also an overlooking view of the mountains when you look outside.

The Philippine Military Academy is another tourist spot located in Loakan Rd. Baguio. This is a bit close to the Loakan Airport and it’s about 30 minutes away from the center of Baguio City.

Be reminded that PMA is a very huge place. You can take pictures with cadets in different uniforms and attires. There are different places within the campus that offers splendid views.

Tips from Joan’s Footprints

• Where comfortable clothes according to the season you are coming. The months of April – May are relatively hot. On the other hand, November – February are the coldest months.
• Beware of pick-pockets and keep your bags in front of you especially in thrift shops.
• Always bring a polite attitude.
• Ideal month to come here is from November – February. This is the best weather and the Christmas Village takes place on December. Also, the festival is celebrated for the whole month of February.

Yes dear! Most of it the places are just walking distance. If you need to commute, I suggest taxi for a 3-4 group. Otherwise, jeepney will be the best if you want to save more. 🙂

Philippine Rabbit from Avenida Terminal to Baguio

Philippine rabbit is a long-time bus company that offers trip to Baguio from its Avenida Sta Cruz terminal in Manila.

BUS FROM PASAY TO BAGUIO

If you’re from the South of Metro Manila, you can travel to Baguio from the Pasay Terminal of Victory Liner. This bus company focuses on trips going to the north of the Philippines, so they have more options and trips going to Baguio and other destinations in the north.

Victory Liner from Pasay to Baguio

Victory Liner offers First Class and Regular Aircon buses going to Baguio.  They have 6 daily trips of First Class buses going to Baguio. Fare is 800 pesos. First trip is as early as 1:15AM and the last trip is 11:15 AM. Please see details of trips below.

For the Regular Aircon , they have more than 30 trips a day! So expect that they have trips at least every hour. Fare is 496 pesos.

BenCab Museum

This is located in Tuba, Benguet, away from the city but truly worthy of a visit. This 4 story building showcases the personal collection of National Artist Benedicto Cabrera or BenCab for short.

The place will surely ignite your senses and creativity, so it is advisable to bring your pen and notebook to capture those ideas. You know how seldom those ideas come, right? If you are a painter, bring a sketchbook to freely express yourself and let that creative juices flow.

There is also a farm and garden area that you can explore, to relax and also learn about organic farming. This is open from Tuesdays to Sundays at 9AM to 6PM. Entrance fee is P150. For students, it’s P120, and P80 for senior citizens.

Burnham Park

This is probably the most popular tourist attraction in Baguio, because it is a relaxing place and most of all, free! Burnham Park is filled with outdoor and recreational activities like boating and biking.

Mines View Park

The attraction that has become popular of its stunning view of the Cordillera mountains. Over the years, this has become a one stop shop for tourists because now, you can also shop and eat here.

Baguio Cathedral

This cathedral is located on top of a hill, that you can reach through a stairway passing through shops and stalls from Session road. There is also an access road for cars through the post office building. This is considered as the biggest Catholic church in Baguio.

Tam-awan Village

HOW TO GET TO BAGUIO FROM MANILA

By bus from manila to baguio.

The cheapest way from Manila to Baguio is by bus. There are a few buses companies getting to Baguio from Manila: Genesis Transport:  Cubao Dagupan Bus Lines, Partas, Victory Liner and Joy Bus .

BUS SCHEDULE FROM MANILA TO BAGUIO

There are buses leaving every 1-2 hours from Cubao and Pasay and prices are quite similar. You can ride one from  Cubao Bus Station  and the  5-6   hour  bus ride will cost you around $13 USD which h is  800 PHP you can book online .

Once in Baguio Bus Terminal if you go with Victory Liner there is only 1,5 kilometers (you can go walking or ride a taxi) to Burnham Park where you can book your accommodation.

P2P MANILA TO BAGUIO

If you want comfort there is P2P Manila to Baguio. The travel time is 5-6 hours and you will have USD charger points, air conditioning, comfort room, TV and Wifi on board.

The price is  800 PHP  (deluxe and luxury service). There are buses running every 1-2 hours during the day and night. The buses are leaving from Araneta Bus Station in Cubao to Baguio.

HOW TO GET FROM MANILA TO BAGUIO BY CAR

If you want to get from Manila to Baguio by car. It will take you around 4 hours depending on the traffic. If you leave early morning or at night you will avoid traffic leaving Manila and entering Baguio.

HOW TO GET TO BAGUIO FROM CLARK

If you want to get to Baguio from Clark by bus. You have to transfer from the airport to Dau Bus Terminal. The best way to reach DAU from the airport is by taxi or  Grab . It will take you 15-20 minutes.

From DAU Bus Terminal you have to ride a bus 5 hours to Baguio. The price will be  325 PHP . There are a few daily buses going from Clark to Baguio.

HOW TO GET TO BAGUIO FROM VIGAN

If you want to get to Baguio from Vigan.  You can take the bus coming from Laoag and stop at Vigan along the way. The bus Fare from Vigan to Baguio is about  400 PHP one way .

If you want to get to Baguio from Laoag. There are few daily buses and vans from  Baguio City Bus Terminal to Laoag and viceversa . Travel time is around 4 hours and the fare ranges from  500 PHP .

HOW TO GET TO BAGUIO FROM LA UNION

If you want to get to Baguio from La Union. There is  no direct connection  from Baguio to La Union. You can take the bus going to Laoag or Vigan and stop in Urbiztondo Beach. It takes almost 3 hours and it costs  95-110 PHP .

How to Get to Baguio from Manila

Depending on where you are coming from and your mode of transportation, travel time from Manila to Baguio can take around five to six hours. If there is no traffic and you’re taking a private vehicle, travel time can be around four hours. Many people actually enjoy the long drive from Manila to Baguio.

But commuting should not be hard because you can easily find a bus going to Baguio. There are scheduled trips you can take from operators like Victory Liner and Genesis Transport. Usual departure point in Manila is Cubao, Quezon City. They even offer first class rides that will make your long commute more comfortable. Bus ride ranges from PHP500 to PHP800 (approximately USD10-USD16).

Getting Around Baguio City

You can take cab or jeepney rides when exploring around the beautiful places in Baguio. It’s generally easy to navigate around. There are even some locations you can reach by foot from another destination. There are also group tours available that you can avail for a hassle-free tour. But if you want control over your time, creating a do-it-yourself Baguio itinerary should be really easy.

Baguio Accommodations

Since the City of Pines is a main tourist hub, there are a number of budget and upscale hotels available to choose from. There are also transient houses or vacation houses that you can rent. If you can spend more on accommodations, choose one that is located in the city center (a bit pricier compared to those far from the city center). It’s also nice to walk around at night and if you’re just staying around town, you’ll have easy access to restaurants and other establishments.

You haven’t been to Baguio if you haven’t seen these places:

• Mines View Park – A park overlooking the stunning Cordillera mountains.
• Wright Park – Another beautiful park where you can simply walk around. Horseback riding is popular in the place.
• The Mansion – Official summer palace of the President of the Philippines. A popular site for photo-ops.
• Strawberry Farm – Go to Strawberry Farm if you want to experience picking strawberries by yourself (seasonal).
• Camp John Hay – Enjoy this recreational complex with the abundance of scenic pine trees. What a way to relax with the cool Baguio weather!
• Burnham Park – Sight Burnham Park with the nice artificial lagoon where you can even go boating.
• Botanical Garden – Because Baguio will never run out of alluring spots to visit, Botanical Garden offers both a stimulating and lovely place where you can just take a pause and unwind.
• Lion’s Head – Passing by Kennon Road, notice the famous Lion’s Head statue that has been a symbol of the summer capital.

When to Go in Baguio?

Baguio has a nice cool weather all year round. However, the place can really get crowded on long weekends, Christmas season, summer (many Manila peeps want to escape the summer heat), and during Holy Week. Traffic is definitely grueling at these times. You may want to travel outside these peak seasons or holidays. Normal weekends may still have a crowd but probably lesser.

Day 0 (Friday): Arrival in Baguio

– Afternoon/late departure from Manila. – Arrival in Baguio. – Check-in at accommodation.

Or you can also choose to travel early Saturday morning to avoid paying extra one night for accommodations. You can then start the tour around noon time or after lunch.

Day 1 (Saturday): Baguio City Tour + Strawberry Farm

MANILA TO SAGADA: By Direct Bus (Coda Lines) & Via Baguio

Over the past several years, Sagada has emerged as a popular destination, especially among adventurers and soul searchers. It is most famous for Sumaguing Cave, Blue Soil Hill, Bomod-ok Falls, and the Hanging Coffins, a traditional way of honoring the dead, which is still practiced to this day. But when the film That Thing Called Tadhana featured it in its most iconic scenes, this quiet town made a permanent mark on pop culture as a romantic destination.

But Sagada isn’t the easiest to reach. From Manila, it is quite a long drive. For the longest time, the most common way to get there is by first going to Baguio and catching another bus to Sagada. But more options have been made available over the past couple of years. The most convenient is the DIRECT BUS, which can take you from Quezon City (in Metro Manila) straight to Sagada overnight.

In this post, we’ll discuss these two options in detail: by direct bus and by making a stop in Baguio .

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

Manila to Sagada by Direct Bus

Coda Lines Corporation offers a direct transit between Manila and Sagada via Banaue and Bontoc. The company shares the bus terminal with HM Transport in Cubao along EDSA-Southbound. There are two types of bus: Semi Deluxe Bus (No CR) and Super Deluxe Bus (CR Onboard).

Will there be stopovers for Super Deluxe Buses? YES! Same as the stops that Semi Deluxe Buses will make.

Time of Departure: All are OVERNIGHT BUSES. You can sleep during the ride and when you wake up, you’re already in Sagada!

Please be at the terminal at least thirty minutes (or an hour) before departure time.

Fares: P760 (Semi Deluxe) and P980 (Super Deluxe). It’s highly recommended to book your seat in advance to secure your slot. They prioritize those who book online. It’s a bit risky to do walk-in as seats can run out real fast.

Here’s how to book online:

• Go to 12GO website and punch in the necessary details: date of your departure, point of origin, and destination.
• You will be directed to a page that allows you to choose the bus type and the departure time.
• Once you are done selecting the bus type and the time of departure, you will then choose your seat (marked by numbers).
• After that, you will be shown a summary of your booking details. Then fill out the passenger information form.
• Click proceed and payment option.

Manila to Sagada via Baguio

It is also possible to reach Sagada via Baguio. This involves a change of bus and terminal in Baguio City. A number of companies offer bus services to Baguio, but two of the most popular are Victory Liner and Joy Bus. These are also the only two we have tried, so we’ll be focusing on them.

1. Ride a bus to Baguio City.

If you can, choose a late night bus so you’ll arrive in Baguio in the early morning because the last Sagada-bound bus leaves Baguio at either 11:30am or 01:00pm.

2. Take a taxi to GL Trans Terminal.

GL Trans and Lizardo Trans are the two bus companies that offer the Baguio-Sagada route. Between the two, GL Trans is more recommended by our local friends.

From Victory Liner/JoyBus station, take a taxi to GL Trans Terminal.

Travel time: 10 minutes.

3. Catch a bus to Sagada.

At the GL Trans Terminal, approach the counter and purchase a ticket to Sagada, which costs P220.

As of writing, here are the schedule and routes:

• 05:30 am – Sagada > Besau
• 08:30 am – Sagada Ambasing
• 09:30 am – Sagada > Besau
• 10:30 am – Sagada > Besau
• 11:30 am – Sagada Ambasing
• 01:00 pm (last trip) – Sagada > Besau

Notice that the latest departure time is at 1:00 PM. If you are coming from Manila, make sure to be in Baguio before the last bus departs. It’s better to arrive early in the morning to guarantee the transfer to Sagada from Baguio to give you time allowance and save you from the hassle and stress. Note that the seats can sell out fast, especially on weekends, that even when you arrive at 10:00 AM, the bus departing at 11:30 AM is already full.

Travel time: 6 hours.

Fare: P220.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

• Be alert. Don’t fall asleep because Sagada town proper isn’t where the trip terminates. You might miss it and end up in Besau, which is the usual final stop for the route.
• No reservation and advance bookings. Again, you need to be there early because they issue bus tickets for that day’s schedule only on a first come, first serve basis.
• Ticket-selling starts at 5:00 AM.
• Hungry while waiting for your bus? Baguio’s popular local restaurant, Good Taste, has a branch near the terminal.
• The bus will make at least two stops.

All the meals we ordered were value-for-money, with big servings good for sharing, an appetizing presentation, and bold flavors. The Buttered Chicken (P520) features crispy and juicy fried chicken coated in a buttery garlic sauce that’s savory, tangy, and a tad sweet, topped with fried garlic.

The really cheesy Baked Bangus (P520) is a fresh boneless bangus topped with four cheeses and vegetables, baked until melted and served with French fries; the Kilawin (P480) is a refreshing appetizer of soft and cured white fish in a zingy vinegar dressing and mango tomato salsa.

The Dirty Fries (P440) can feed two to three, topped with chili con carne, salsa, and cheese. The Buffalo Chicken (P480) features hefty boneless chicken nuggets that are moist and juicy, tossed in an addictive spicy-tangy buffalo sauce and served with a creamy ranch dressing.
