Starfield Kreet

How to Travel to Kreet in Starfield

Image of Shawn Robinson

Taking your first steps into the world of Starfield can be rather daunting, especially once you’re done with the initial area. You’ll learn all about mining, get some sort of strange vision, create your character with an obscene amount of customization, and even shoot a few pirates along the way. Once you’ve gotten into space though, the game asks you to do something that can be a little confusing for newcomers. Here’s how to travel to Kreet in Starfield.

How to Get to Kreet in Starfield

To travel to Kreet, you’ll want to open up your data menu (the one that shows skills, inventory, etc.) and click on the planet in the top left. This will show you a view of Vectera, though we’ll instead want to press the button listed at the bottom right of the screen, labeled “Back to System”. This will give you a full view of all the planets in the Narion system, with you currently shown on the Vectera moon orbiting Anselon.

Navigate to the other moon listed Kreet and click on it to show up closer to Kreet. Rotating the planet will show the Kreet Research Lab , which you want to click on and hold the listed key for “Land”. Doing so will have you land on the planet, ready to continue the story.

Starfield Kreet Planet

You’ll be asked to get to the planet of Kreet during the mission One Small Step . The previous steps asked you to handle the Crimson Fleet ships in orbit around the starting planet of Vectera, and learn about messing with your ship’s systems. Once you kill them, your robot friend Vasco will ask you to travel to Kreet to help ensure you don’t get chased down after killing some of the Crimson Fleet’s soldiers. That’s where confusion starts to stir up. Related: How to Quicksave and Quickload in Starfield

If you’re still getting your bearings in the early game, then you’ll find our guide on how to power up the Grav Drive in Starfield helpful after finishing up Kreet.

Starfield: How to Fly to Kreet & Complete “One Small Step” Quest

Artur Novichenko

One of your initial missions in Starfield is to head over to the planet Kreet. This guide will show you the ropes on getting there.

Quick guide to reaching Kreet (TLDR):

  • To make your way to Kreet right after kicking off the game, you’ll need to wrap up a specific quest.
  • This quest is dubbed “A Small Step” and it starts immediately following character creation.
  • Your objective is to locate and neutralize the mine attackers on their home planet, which happens to be Kreet.
  • Below, you’ll find the detailed breakdown of the mission’s steps.

Starfield: How to Fly to Kreet in One Small Step Mission

Kreet in Starfield

Once you’re done customizing your character, follow Lin to meet her client, Barrett. Talk to him about your visions from the artifact. Mid-conversation, you will be interrupted by space pirates. Deal with them using a pistol you can find in a box by the ramp leading up to the landing platform. After killing the pirates, talk to Barrett and board your new ship.

  • More on this topic: All Main Missions & Subtasks of Starfield

Once you’re in your ship, use the in-game prompts to take off. When you make your way to orbit, you can either follow the in-game tutorial to learn how to power up flight systems and get a bit of spaceship combat with pirates or, if you already know how to do it, you can skip the tutorial entirely by powering up all your flight systems. If you choose the second option, you can loot the space pirates’ destroyed ships after the fight.

Your next mission will be to defeat the space pirates on their home planet, Kreet. Use the Star Chart by pressing TAB and then choosing it in the upper left corner and travel to Kreet. Once you’re in Kreet’s orbit, look for the Kreet Research Lab either on the map or using your ship’s scanner. Land your ship there and prepare for some mild combat with space pirates.

Starfield is a massive game filled with wonder, and it all starts with the “One Small Step” opening quest. As the name suggests, this game starts you off somewhere small before leading you into its very large world. With Starfield , there is no horse-drawn carriage or mysterious vault to emerge from. Instead, you’ll open your eyes for the first time in a dusty mine elevator on a hunk of rock in the middle of space.

In “One Small Step,” you’ll create your character and take to the stars for the very first time. In this Starfield walkthrough, we’ll take you through the objectives for “One Small Step” and help you understand the outcomes of some of your decisions before you make them.

A possible bug at launch is that players are sometimes unable to follow the scanner. If this happens to you, we recommend returning to orbit and waiting by passing time . Consider shutting the game off and launching it fresh as well, just in case.

Also, when you make to re-land on the planet, be absolutely sure you’re picking the Scanner Anomaly Site. If you land anywhere else by accident, the temple won’t appear on the map and you won’t be able to find it.

Work your mining job

A player in Starfield mines some ore with a laser

You’ll first gain partial control of your character on a dusty elevator delving into the depths of a space mine on a world called Vectera . You’ll immediately meet Supervisor Lin — who runs the mining operation — and her smart/dumb-ass companion, Heller . These two will be your first guides into the world of Starfield .

Follow Supervisor Lin

Once the elevator stops, follow Lin and Heller for a classic Bethesda walk-and-talk. You don’t need to interact with anything here, so just enjoy the ambiance.

Collect Mineral Deposits // Return to Supervisor Lin

Eventually, Lin will tell you to pick up a Cutter , which you can use to mine rocks. Head down the corridor toward your objective marker and shoot the laser at the glowing rocks.

Once you’ve gathered all the Beryllium , Lin will summon you back to her. Talk to her when you exit your mining cavern.

Follow Supervisor Lin // Explore the cavern

Follow Lin and Heller deeper into the cave once the big machine moves out of the way. Continue along the main path when Lin and Heller send you off on your own. Go up the ramp and into the small cavern.

Break up the deposits // Take the strange object

Walk up to the strange anomaly in the cavern — the one covered in floating, silver rocks. Use the Cutter to clear the strange material away from the embedded artifact .

Once the artifact is clear of rubble, grab it. You’ll suffer a vision of some strange celestial bodies and pass out.

Creating your character

The character creator for Starfield shows a white man with a beard

When you wake up in the infirmary, you’ll find Lin and Heller standing over you, concerned. They’ll then ask you a little about yourself, prompting you to create your character.

Take your time here to really perfect your avatar, as you’ll be seeing them all the time if you play in third-person (and in your menu even if you don’t).

Backgrounds

First you’ll need to pick a background . It will determine how players initially refer to you, and it will give you three starting skills . Our guide on what background to choose can help, if you’re stumped.

Traits are completely optional trade-offs. You can choose up to three but you can also choose zero. Some of these come with cool things like your own house that comes complete with a mortgage you have to pay. Traits can be more impactful in minute-to-minute gameplay than your background, but you can remove traits you regret later in the game, so don’t stress about this too much either. Our guide on what traits to choose can help.

Surviving the space pirates

A player fights some pirates with a pistol in Starfield

Once you finish creating your character, Lin will tell you that a buyer is headed to Vectera to buy the artifact you found. She wants you to talk to them.

Follow Lin // Meet with the client

Follow your boss outside and wait for Barrett to touch down and greet you. (If you want to get a leg-up on the upcoming combat encounter, you can grab a pistol out of the box just before you reach the ramp up to the landing platform.)

Once he lands, talk to Barrett about your experience with the artifact.

Hold off the pirates // Talk to Barrett

Mid-conversation with Barrett, you’ll be attacked by space pirates . You can fend them off just fine with your pistol, but know that you can also find an automatic Maelstrom rifle on the dead bodies — feel free to upgrade mid-combat.

Once the pirates are dead, Barrett will lend you the Frontier ship and direct his robot companion, Vasco, to follow you. He asks you to return to the Lodge .

Board the ship

Board your new ship and learn all about navigating the stars.

Learning to fly

A player hunts down a flying space pirate in space

Once you’re done poking around Barrett’s stuff, head to the cockpit and take off into space. Here, the game will teach you all about allocating the power systems on your ship and give you some mild combat to test your mettle.

Take off from Vectera // Learn to fly

Before you get to the real flying tutorial, the game will teach you how to take off from a planet and reach orbit. Follow the prompts.

Once in space, the game will walk you through powering up your various flight systems and moving around in orbit. Follow the prompts again.

(Optional) Power up all systems to skip tutorial

If you already know what you’re doing, you can power up all your systems (including the Grav Jump) and instantly skip the rest of the ship tutorial.

Deal with the Crimson Fleet

If you don’t skip the tutorial, you’ll be attacked by more space pirates and will need to deal with them via ship-to-ship combat. After you’ve finished your encounter, make sure to fly around and collect the loot from the space pirates’ destroyed hulls.

Hunt down the space pirates

A player has a persuasion conversation with a pirate captain in Starfield

Once you deal with them on Vectera and in space, you’ll need to get to the root of the space pirate problem by hunting them down on their home planet.

Travel to Kreet // Land at the Kreet Research Base

Open your map and use the star chart to travel to Kreet , the home of the local space pirate chapter.

Once you’re in orbit around Kreet, select the Kreet Research Lab either in the map menu or by using your ship’s scanner on the planet. Land and prepare yourself for some combat (thankfully you’ll have Vasco the robot for backup).

Make your way toward the research station, but feel free to take a second to check out some of the alien life and collect some resources.

Deal with the Crimson Fleet Captain // Return to the ship

Inside the building you’ll find quite a few space pirates. Take them out and follow the objective marker up to the roof . When you reach the top you’ll encounter Captain Brogan . This is where Starfield will try and teach you how to persuade NPCs to do what you want and avoid violence. You can either do that or you and Vasco can murder the captain and his goons. (If you fail to persuade the captain, the encounter ends in violence anyway.)

However you resolve the captain problem, head back to your ship (remember you can fast travel to it instantly if you’re not encumbered).

The first meeting at The Lodge

A player character has a conversation with Vasco, the helpful robot, in Starfield

Now that the space pirates are out of the way, it’s time to fulfill your promise to Barrett and head to the Lodge.

Grav Jump to Jemison // Land at New Atlantis

Once you’re back on your ship, head to orbit and follow the game’s instructions on how to use the Grav Jump feature so you can reach Jemison and New Atlantis city .

When you land on New Atlantis, talk to the shipwright and talk to Vasco.

Go to the Lodge (MAST District)

Follow the objective marker to the tram . This will take you to the MAST District . After your tram arrives, follow the waypoint to the Lodge, where the mysterious organization known as Constellation operates. Use your watch to open the door.

Enter the library // Talk to Sarah // Listen to the meeting

Once your load ends, head into the library and talk to the Constellation crew.

Speak to Sarah Morgan , the woman wearing the red leather jacket, and stand around while you listen to the Constellation characters chat about their organization.

Place the Artifact // Listen to the meeting // Talk to Sarah

Walk up to the console in the middle of the room and place the artifact on the table. This will cause it and the other artifacts Constellation has already found to start spinning in the air together.

Listen to the various responses from the different Constellation members, who are all very excited about this new discovery.

Finally, talk to Sarah again and tell her about your incredible discovery. Then you can pat yourself on the back: You’ve officially finished the first mission in Starfield ’s main campaign.

Now you’re ready to join Constellation proper in Starfield ’s second story mission: “ The Old Neighborhood .”

One small step walkthrough.

One Small Step is the first mission of the main story in Starfield. In this Walkthrough , we'll show you where you can pick up key items, find collectibles, and any opportunities to snag some additional loot as you start your journey from Vectera .

Before you jump into the main story, be sure to check out:

  • Beginner's Guide to Starfield and Tips
  • Things to Do First in Starfield
  • Things Starfield Doesn't Tell You

Click on the links in the table below to jump to the section of the Walkthrough that details what you need to do on each planet.

One Small Step Walkthrough (6).png

Starfield begins in the year 2330 at the Argos Extractors Mining Outpost , located on the Moon of Vectera . You’ll find yourself inside an elevator going down into the mines, with Supervisor Lin , and her right-hand man, Heller checking you over. This opening scene will have you taking on the role of a "Dusty", whose job is to extract mineral deposits in exchange for money.

Follow Supervisor Lin

One Small Step Walkthrough (7).png

As the elevator comes to a stop, you’ll be prompted to follow Lin around the mine. Keep close to her as she interacts with other Dusties and ensures they’re not slacking from their duties. After she’s spoken to a number of them, she’ll beckon you over to a crate where you’ll be instructed to pick up a Cutter . It’s time to get to work and collect your first lot of minerals!

Get the Cutter

One Small Step Walkthrough (10).png

Interact with the crate to collect the Cutter . Immediately after it’s equipped, 5 objective markers will appear deeper into the mine, just off to the left.

Collect Mineral Deposits

One Small Step Walkthrough (15).png

Using the Cutter , press the trigger button (RB or Left Mouse Button) to fire at the mineral deposits until they break. The materials will then be automatically deposited into your inventory as soon as they burst, and a notification will pop up on the top right of your screen to show you what you've gained. Once you have these mineral deposits, you can return to Lin .

Tip! Stock Up on Beryllium

One Small Step Walkthrough (75).png

Return to Supervisor Lin

One Small Step Walkthrough (11).png

Rejoin Lin and continue following her toward the digger, and Heller who is supervising it, as it excavates a hole in the mine to reveal a cave. When the path is clear, Lin will ask Heller to take the readings from the site. While Heller is concerned about the readings he’s getting that show a spike in gravity, Lin isn’t, as she knows there’s an anomaly present and it is in fact, exactly what she came down to the mines for.

Explore the Cavern

One Small Step Walkthrough (21).png

It's time to take on your first test as the new Dusty. Lin and Heller ] will ask you to explore the cavern up ahead. This is where you'll be given a quick tutorial, which will tell you how to turn on your flashlight, to illuminate the darkened tunnel towards the cavern (Hold LB or Press F) .

Take the Strange Object

As you get closer to the cave, Heller will prompt you to continue going inside. You’ll enter a room with a strange object stuck in the glistening rock in the center, highlighting your next objective.

One Small Step Walkthrough (8).png

You won't be able to pull it straight out of the rock, so use the Cutter to break the mineral deposits. After chipping away some of the rock, pick up the strange object. As soon as you do this, you'll see a vision, and before you know it, you’ll be waking up with Heller and Lin watching over you again and making sure you're okay.

One Small Step Walkthrough (76).png

Heller will ask you if you remember anything, before handing over your file, which cleverly leads to the Character Creation menu.

Character Creation Guide

Create your character.

On the Character Creation menu, you’ll be able to alter your playable character in various ways. Besides crafting their body, face, and walk to suit your choices, you’ll also be able to pick your Background and up to 3 traits .

One Small Step Walkthrough (77).png

This will have an impact on your gameplay, from the way you interact with characters, to the loot you can access. Once you’ve completed your profile, you’ll exit the Character Creation menu to speak to Lin about your encounter with the strange object.

Tip! First or Third Person

When you get up from the Quarantine table, you'll be told that you can change your view between first and third person. Use either the View Button or the middle button/scroll wheel of your mouse to adjust these settings.

After a quick conversation, Lin will ask you to follow her again to meet a client who is interested in purchasing the strange object. Before you do, you should take a good look around the base to pick up some loot and key items. We've included information below on how to find a number of important documents and items in the area.

On Space Mining

One Small Step Walkthrough (1).png

When you take control of your character, go into the cage where a miner is working on a spacesuit, and another is sitting on a bench on the right. On the bench, just in front of the miner is the On Space Mining Text Log to be collected.

Tip! Dealing With CO2 Buildup

This log will give you a tip on watching the CO2 buildup in your respirator. You’ll find in the game that everything becomes harder when the CO2 meter starts to turn red and finally takes over your Oxygen entirely, causing health damage -- so keep an eye on it!

Supervisor’s Log #1

One Small Step Walkthrough (2).png

Rather than follow Heller and Lin here, go to the room on the right. Head to the back of it, to find a yellow crate next to a blue container where you can pick up one of the Supervisor’s Log Text Logs .

Heller’s Personal Log #1

One Small Step Walkthrough (3).png

Now go to the room on the other side, behind the miner working on the spacesuit. As you enter look to the left. Next to the miner on the bench, you can find the first of Heller’s Personal Logs .

Head into the bathroom on the left to pick up some First Aid , and then go to the right side of the room and to the door that says “Out Of Order.” You can open this to find some books on the shelving next to the mirror.

One Small Step Walkthrough (80).png

Side Activity Leading To A Collectible

One Small Step Walkthrough (85).png

As you’re exiting this room, look to the left, and you’ll see a silver briefcase. You can find a spacesuit here, which you can sell if it's the same one you're wearing for a good amount of credits.

One Small Step Walkthrough (4).png

Return to the Quarantine table you woke up on, and grab the supplies from the Emergency First Aid Kid to the right of it. Continue to the right of this kit to find an orange door . You can unlock this by using the terminal next to it (on the right), allowing you to travel back down to the mine. When you enter the room, go left and you’ll find another log to collect.

Heller’s Personal Log #2

One Small Step Walkthrough (5).png

Just to the right of the log, you’ll see a locked door that can be unlocked at Master Level . Further off to the right of this, and at the back of the room, you can find a Storage Box . When you’re done with this area, continue toward the next room to join Lin and Heller . Just before you go through to the next room, you can find a Storage Box on the cart to the left of the door.

As you make your way through the plastic divider into the break room, you’ll be able to see a computer on the right. The next log can be collected here.

Supervisor’s Log #2

One Small Step Walkthrough (81).png

When you’re done exploring, proceed through the airlock to join Heller and Lin . Here you’ll be instructed to equip a helmet, to deal with the atmospheric conditions on Vectera .

Equip a Helmet

One Small Step Walkthrough (78).png

To equip a helmet, open your inventory. You can do this by opening the menu, and then hovering over the dot on the bottom right to get to your inventory.

Once outside, go with Lin over to the right side of the base, where the spaceship will proceed to land.

Meet with the Client

One Small Step Walkthrough (28).png

Wait for the spaceship to land, then see the client emerge from it. The mysterious client is called Barrett and he suggests that he has a good indication of what you experienced, so you can ask him for more information on what you saw earlier in the mine.

Hold Of the Pirates

One Small Step Walkthrough (31).png

Unfortunately, the conversation won't be able to last long, as signals will show that someone has followed Barrett to Vectera and seemingly wants to take the strange object for themselves. A pirate ship will land on the opposite side of the outdoor base.

You don’t have to use a weapon in this fight, but if you want to, as you go down the ramp toward the Pirate Ship , you can find a case with a weapon on the left. There will also be a green First Aid Kit with some form of aid inside to be collected.

The best way to tackle this fight is to find cover initially. If you picked up the optional weapon, focus on using this when enemies are further away. However, you can lure them in and use the flammable objects dotted around the base to make quick work of the Pirates. As they run and approach you, swap to the Cutter to quickly eviscerate them and save on ammo.

Talk to Barrett

One Small Step Walkthrough (37).png

When you've cleared the field of Pirates, be sure to loot their bodies (as well as any miners who might not have made it). Then, when you're ready, go over to Barret and talk to him. There are additional dialogue options for you to find out more from Barrett about the Crimson Fleet , Constellation , and more.

At the end of this conversation, Barrett will give you his ship, the Frontier . He'll also hand over a watch. This will allow you to scan planets for materials, fast travel to your ship, check atmospheric conditions, and it can be used as a navigational device.

Board the Ship

With Barret’s ship in your possession and the helpful Vasco following you, it’s time to fly away from Vectera and off to the next destination. When you board the Frontier , check on either side of the entrance to pick up additional Medical supplies from the bags.

Exploring the Ship

As soon as you're inside the Frontier , turn around and face the ladder you climbed up into the ship from, and interact with the door behind it that leads to the toilet. You can find Barret’s second personal slate on the side in here.

Barrett - Personal Slate 2

One Small Step Walkthrough (89).png

As you head toward the hatch, look to the left side of the ship to see a Navigation Console and Research Station . Go over to the Navigation Console on the left to find a slate from Barret next to a cup.

Barrett - Personal Slate 1

One Small Step Walkthrough (88).png

Tip! Using The Research Lab

One Small Step Walkthrough (91).png

On the right side of the ship, you’ll find the Galley and the Bed . The Galley is where you’ll be able to craft meals with various different benefits. Go over to the bed, and on the bottom left shelf, you can find the third personal slate from Barrett .

Barrett - Personal Slate 3

One Small Step Walkthrough (90).png

Take Off From Vectera

When you’ve explored this section enough, go through the Hatch into the cockpit.

Tip! How to Store Items in Your Cargo

One Small Step Walkthrough (87).png

Sit in the captain’s chair to exit Vectera . As you lift off, you’ll be taken through a tutorial on how to fly.

Learn to Fly

One Small Step Walkthrough (83).png

When you first take on the Frontier , Vasco will take you through the basics of flying. We recommend doing this, just so you have a good initial idea of the effect each gauge has on your ship, and how how to assign and reassign power to them.

Deal With the Crimson Fleet

While attempting to leave Vectera , you'll have your first experience of fighting the Crimson Fleet in space. If you completed the flying tutorial, Vasco will have mentioned the "sweet spot" of flying, where the bar on the left for speed sits in the middle.

One Small Step Walkthrough (84).png

Keeping your speed here will help you be able to move around and focus on the Crimson Fleet's ships. Try to keep them in the center of your screen to keep locked on to them. Target them to lock on to them, then use your laser weapons first to break down their shields. When the shield is depleted, switch to missiles and ballistic weapons to take down their ships.

Travel to Kreet

Even though you've survived the attack, the Crimson Fleet activity is high according to Vasco. The robot will then inform you that the Crimson Fleet won't stop coming after you if you ignore it. In order to stop it, you'll need to travel to Kreet and deal with the Crimson Fleet Captain .

Kreet is in the same system as Vectera , so you'll just need to look at the Narion System , then head over to the Moon of Anselon to find Kreet .

One Small Step Walkthrough (86).png

Before landing at the Kreet Research Base , you'll be shown how to scan a planet to find resources and discover potential landing sites available. Spin the planet around until you see the Kreet Research Lab , then land there.

Land at the Kreet Research Base

One Small Step Walkthrough (39).png

You can find the Kreet Research Base southwest of the area you'll land in when you arrive at Kreet . Use your Scanner to check your surroundings, and find the quickest path to the lab.

When you enter the first room in the Kreet Research Lab , look to the left of the door to find a Storage Box . You can then pick up some First Aid before proceeding into the Lab. Go up the stairs to the next room, and you’ll come to an office. You can find a First Aid Kit by the door as you go up the stairs.

Once you’re up the stairs, follow the path and go inside Storage 01 to find a Storage Box next to a body. Continue along the corridor, and you’ll come to the door to go into the Kitchen.

Go left inside the Kitchen to find a Storage room with First Aid and a Pharmaceutical Kit . Cut through the Cafeteria , where you’ll find your first set of enemies in the Lab, then go up to the Living Quarters.

One Small Step Walkthrough (44).png

Take the first door on the left to go into Living 01 . As you walk in, you’ll see three rooms. On the left side of the main room, you can find a Computer next to a First Aid kit . Go inside the room on the right to find a safe that can be unlocked at Novice Level .

One Small Step Walkthrough (42).png

Leave Living 01 , then go right into the break room. On the western side of the room, you can find a Weapon Rack . Continue along the corridor into Lab 01 . Just before you enter, look to the left to find Ammo Cases and a First Aid Kit .

When you step inside Lab 01 , you’ll find a lot more Pirates hanging around. Clear the bottom floor, then head for the stairs in the southeast corner. Before going up the stairs, go into the room on the right. You’ll find another computer and a weapon case here.

On the second level, go east and dip into Research 01 on the left. You’ll find another Weapons Case in here, as well as a First Aid Kit tucked behind the door. Continue going east but stop by the Pharmaceutical Lab to the right of the next door, and craft any items you can. You can also find materials on the table to the left of it. When you’re done, start to go north into Research 02 .

As soon as you open the door, you’ll see a First Aid Kit . There will be plenty of pirates waiting for you in this room as well, so you’ll want to have your gun ready.

One Small Step Walkthrough (48).png

On the right of the room, when you first walk in, you’ll see Testing 01 . This needs to be unlocked and can be done with Digipicks at Novice Level . If you successfully unlock it, you’ll find Haydn Wynn’s Project Terminal , as well as a Safe , and an Ammo Case in the far corner.

Go upstairs and into the office to find another Computer and a Text Log to the left of it. You’ll also find an Ammo Case just to the right of the door, which needs to be unlocked.

One Small Step Walkthrough (93).png

There are two outcomes to this conversation with the Crimson Fleet Captain . You can use persuasion and resolve the situation peacefully, or you can fight him. We’d recommend killing him to get your hands on additional loot.

Return To the Ship

When you're done exploring the research base, head back to your ship. The next destination is Jemison , to meet Constellation and visit The Lodge .

Grav Jump to Jemison

One Small Step Walkthrough (95).png

To fly to Jemison , you'll need to Grav Jump to the Alpha Centauri System . You'll need to make sure that you've assigned some of the power in your ship to the Grav Jump, or GRV column , on the bottom left of your screen.

Tip! Use the Mission Menu to Fast Travel

Open up the missions menu, then select the mission you want to track. Press Set Course and you'll automatically fly to the mission's location

Land At New Atlantis

To land in New Atlantis , you'll have to be scanned for Contraband . If you have Contraband on you, you'll be arrested, so be mindful that for some planets your ship will need to be clear of Contraband to safely land.

One Small Step Walkthrough (53).png

Once you arrive in Jemison , the optional activity to speak to the ship mechanic will pop up. He'll be standing on the ramp that takes you down into Jemison . It's worth stopping by to discuss repairs, upgrades, and where you can hire ship crew. He'll also tell you where you can sell your items.

Tip! Selling Items

Go To the Lodge (MAST District)

One Small Step Walkthrough (56).png

When you're done selling your goods and speaking to the ship mechanic, make your way into Jemison . You'll want to head towards the UC checkpoint , then go northeast to the station, and ride the subway to the MAST District .

One Small Step Walkthrough (59).png

Upon arriving in the MAST District , head for the marker in the east to arrive at The Lodge .

Tip! Use Your Scanner to Navigate

Enter the library.

One Small Step Walkthrough (67).png

Approach The Lodge and your watch will grant you access, and open the door. Once you've stepped inside, approach the next door to go into the Library . You'll see a number of people waiting around, but Sarah Morgan will begin a conversation with you as you approach.

Talk to Sarah

One Small Step Walkthrough (69).png

She'll want to know why Barrett isn't here, but you are, so explain to her what happened to the Artifact and Barrett on Vectera . Vasco will verify the information you relay to Sarah , as long as it's correct.

Listen to the Meeting

When you're done talking to Sarah , listen to the meeting about Constellation and the search for the Artifacts . As you approach the center of the room, you'll find a Skill Bonus cutting on the side, which is Constellation Guide 01 .

Constellation Guide 01

One Small Step Walkthrough .png

Place the Artifact

Then approach the console in the center of the room and place the Artifact inside. Everything will begin to move, as the Artifacts already in the console begin to react to the one you just placed.

One Small Step Walkthrough (68).png

The members of Constellation continue to talk about their theories and findings, then Sarah will ask if you're ready to get to work and start tracking down the rest of the Artifacts .

Now's your chance to talk to Sarah and learn more about Constellation and what they know about the Artifacts so far. When you exit the conversation, you'll have a chance to get settled in and explore The Lodge , signaling the end of this mission and the beginning of The Old Neighborhood .

Struggling with getting to Kreet?

Published: 04 Sep 2023 11:46 AM +00:00 Updated: 01 Nov 2023 2:49 PM +00:00

Early on in Starfield , you'll be getting down the basics of moving around and travelling the cosmos. This includes flying for the first time, and we'll help you with our guide on how to travel to Kreet in Starfield .

The first mission in Starfield is called One Small Step , wherein you're given the basics of the game. Starfield kicks off on a small moon called Vectera and you find your character mining on it. It's fairly easy to fly your spaceship to get to Kreet as long as you follow our instructions.

For more on the game, check out how to pay off a bounty in Starfield , plus how to scrap items . We've also got a guide on how to holster your weapon in Starfield , because the game doesn't explain it too clearly.

A screenshot of Kreet in Starfield.

Starfield as a game offers an expansive universe for players to explore and enjoy. While this can seem overwhelming, the game still makes certain to guide newcomers and get their bearings. This includes guiding the player in learning how to move around, shoot enemies, and fly their space ships .

As you finish customising your character in-game, you should follow Lin to meet her client Barrett. During the conversation, you'll be interrupted by a couple of space pirates. This makes you pull out your pistol to learn how to target and kill enemies.

After talking to Barrett, you can then board your ship. Inside, the in-game prompts will guide you on how to launch the ship. You'll have to open your data menu and click on the planet on the top left, which shows a view of Vectera in space. You then find the "Back to System" button which will give you an overview of all the planets in the Narion system.

A screenshot of Kreet on orbit in Starfield.

You'll see Vectera as orbiting the planet Anselon. You can find the other moon called Kreet and click it for a closer view. Upon rotating the planet on this view, a prompt of the Kreet Research Lab will appear. This will then allow you to click and hold the listed key for "Land" so you can travel to Kreet and land on it.

As you land on Kreet, the story will continue. You'll have to exit the ship and follow a marker down the slope to the research laboratory's entrance. You might find more space pirates, so be ready for some combat against them.

That pretty much sums up how to travel to Kreet in Starfield. While you're still here, perhaps you want to check out our other guides on the game such as how to increase your carrying capacity and how to turn off motion blur.

Starfield: kreet exploration guide.

Exploring Kreet in Starfield can overwhelm you, so here's a nifty guide to help you out.

Quick Links

The moon kreet, exploring kreet research lab.

With over 1,000 planets to explore and survey, Starfield is a massive world that will likely take players many hundreds or thousands of hours to complete. But like every fantastic space journey, it's all about taking that first step into the unknown. One of the very first planets players will land on, as part of the main story quest, is Kreet. It's a barren moon that houses a research center and a few other points of interest scattered about the landscape.

Related: Starfield: How To Use All Map Types

If players want to take their time and fully explore Kreet, there are many interesting tidbits to discover -- from unique mysteries about one of the game's most potent enemies to various flora and fauna that captivate numerous points of interest worth exploring. Here's a complete Kreet exploration guide for Starfield to help your journey!

Updated by Isabella Risoni on September 15, 2023: With over 1,000 planets to explore in Starfield, it can get confusing what you need to do to get 100% completion from your surveying. The longer this game is out, the more information we are discovering. Therefore, we want to give you the most recent findings to guide you throughout your journey in each system. We have updated all the Related links to direct you to more recent articles as well as added which system Kreet is in. We also added more helpful links.

Kreet is the first celestial body in the Narion System that players will land upon after leaving Vectera during the prologue to the game. It's a small moon with a few notable characteristics to discover.

First and foremost, let's explore the technical details of Kreet. To complete the 100% survey checklist, players will need to survey the planet and discover:

  • Nebula Vine
  • Kreet Grazer
  • Kreet Stalker
  • Helium-3 (He-3)
  • Water (H20)
  • Silver (Ag)
  • Alkanes (HnCn)
  • Frozen Volcanic
  • System: Narion
  • Gravity: 0.55
  • Temp: Temperature
  • Atmosphere: STD 02
  • Magnetosphere: Very Strong

Furthermore, to discover Kreet's planetary trait, players must open their Scanner and head toward the Unknown markers that appear in the distance. By scanning these markers, players will reveal numerous points of interest dotting the landscape. The one players want most is the "Natural" marker, which indicates an Unexplored Geological Feature. Following this marker and arriving at the point of interest, players can scan the geological feature, which happens to be reef outcroppings and discover that Kreet features Deep Ocean Deposits.

Related: Starfield: Biome Complete Explained

The primary point of interest the game guides the player to on Kreet is the Kreet Research Lab . It's currently overrun by Crimson Fleet, which makes for a fine introduction to the game's primary villain faction alongside some close-quarters combat with a companion in tow.

Players will battle with numerous pirates inside the lab, looting the various rooms and labs along the way. Here, you'll find digipicks to pick locks, a laser rifle, some explosives and ammunition, and several lootable items to later sell to the Trade Authority on New Atlantis. It's recommended to scoop up plenty of the research equipment, as most of it sells for quite a sum of credits.

It's important to note that the Research Lab is the only handcrafted structure available on Kreet. Players will stumble upon other points of interest in the area, but these are procedurally generated and unique to the player's game. As such, if you spot an abandoned shipping station or a satellite dish, it may not be the exact location found in someone else's game.

Starfield Frontier Ship On Rocky Planet

How to Find Kreet in Starfield

Image of Aggy

When you first turn on Starfield and finish the tutorial fight after mining, you’re tasked with getting rid of the Crimson Fleet on Kreet. This is to show you how to go to different areas and basically how to fly your ship. Below we’ll give you multiple ways to get to Kreet easily.

Where is Kreet in Starfield?

Kreet is incredibly close by, being in the Narion system and orbiting the planet of Anselon. For those who still need more help, there’s more detail below. I remember not really understanding how to get to each star system at first as well, and Kreet is where you usually go after the prologue.

Do this to get to K reet quickly:

Open the menu

Pick the option on the top left to get to your star map.

From there, scroll out to the star systems

Pick the Narion star , which should have a blue hexagon near it if it’s part of your mission.

  • you can just head straight to Anselon and then travel to the moon but that’s more time-consuming

Find the Anselon planet and then pick Kreet, which is a moon.

Related: 7 pro tips I wish I knew before starting Starfield

By following these steps, you can access Kreet in Starfield and continue your mission. Alternatively, you can just take off on your ship and then find a mission marker on your map in space. If you target that mission marker, it will give you the option to travel. If you press travel while looking at a mission marker, you will head straight for the planet or area you need to go to.

What Planet and star system is Kreet in?

Kreet is located in the Narion System, specifically orbiting the planet of Anselon. You can find Kreet close to where you start. You start off in Anselon as well, but you’re specifically on Vectora, which is a different moon of Anselon. No need to worry about using a grav drive on your first mission.

What do I do after I beat the space pirates at Kreet?

Once you finish that mission that requires you to go to Kreet, go ahead and head back to Barret on Vectora, which is a moon of Anselon in the Narion system. Use the same method as above to find Vectora, and to go pretty much anywhere else.

How to get to Kreet in Starfield

How to Get to Kreet in Starfield

Image of Cody Perez

Starfield is full of surprises and wonders for players to discover, and some of the best ones are found on the moon of Kreet. This moon circles the main planet of Anselon near where players start the game. Here’s what you need to do to get to Kreet in Starfield .

Where is Kreet in Starfield ?

For starters, you’ll need to first finish the prologue mission in Starfield before you can get to Kreet. After completing the beginning of the game as a miner and earning your first ship, the Frontier, you are now free to go wherever you want in the galaxy (with a couple of limitations).

Fortunately, those limitations don’t include the nearby moon of Kreet. This moon is the counterpart to Vectera where you first start the massive game. Since Kreet is right next door to Vectera, it is one of the most easily accessible locations you can visit at the start of the game.

All you need to do is pull up the main menu and pick the starmap option in the top left corner. From here, you’ll see Vectera if you are still on this planet or another one. Back out and you’ll be able to see the entire Narion System where you start the game.

You can pick the moon of Kreet from here and jump to it. If you are in another solar system, you’ll have to fly to Narion first. Once you jump to Kreet, all you need to do is pull up the planet map, which the game indicates for you, and you can land wherever you want on the moon.

I won’t spoil what happens on this particular moon but know that there are some shocking events that can occur here that will certainly be overwhelming for newer players.

Starfield is available for the Xbox Series X and PC .

Surveying Kreet – Starfield

Val Hull

  • Published September 2, 2023
  • Updated December 23, 2023

starfield kreet surveyed featured

Kreet is the first planet (moon, technically) you visit in Starfield after completing the intro section. And while still a part of the game’s guided tutorial, Kreet is already open enough to let you engage in some exploration and familiarize yourself with the game’s surveying feature. This guide will help you figure out how that feature works and scan everything there is to scan on Kreet.

What may not be immediately obvious when you’re just starting your interstellar journey is that planets have distinct biomes. When looking at Kreet in your Starmap, you’ll be able to Scan it. Doing so will add some color to the picture. Mousing over the bright areas of the new Starmap will reveal that Kreet has three distinct biomes:

  • Frozen Volcanic

Clicking on any of these biomes will allow you to set them as your landing target. Landing there will place you in a procedurally generated area of a particular biome with its own layout and points of interest.

starfield kreet volcanic

Certain resources and scan targets can only be found in specific biomes, and as such you’ll need to visit them all if you want to fully survey Kreet. With all the procedural generation going on, it can be tricky to find everything. Still, there’s a method to the madness. So, if you follow our guide, you should be able to fully survey Kreet in no time.

Surveying Basics

In order to scan things, you’ll be using your handy hand scanner you bring up by pressing F on a keyboard or LB on a controller. The scanner is a generally useful tool as it will highlight all scannable objects and points of interests within your immediate area.

Things you can scan are highlighted by a blue outline. Things you have already scanned, but require more samples of, are colored completely blue. And things that you’ve fully scanned are colored green. As such, the very first thing you need to learn when surveying things in Starfield is to constantly bring up your scanner and look for glowing blue outlines.

starfield kreet outline

The default scan range is 10 meters, with the Surveying skill greatly increasing it and allowing you to zoom with the scanner.

To fully survey a planet, you’ll need to scan its:

You’ll only need to scan a resource once, while the specimens of flora and fauna require a total of 8 scans to be fully surveyed. Planet Traits are all unique, but on Kreet, you’ll need to scan two stone arches.

When dealing with plants and animals, harvesting plants and killing animals counts towards the surveying progress. But just to be on the safe side, don’t neglect your scanner and use it often to check your progress.

Some species are only present in particular biomes. So, when you see Biome Complete on your scanner, you’ll need to move to a different biome to find new types of animal and plant life.

starfield kreet biome complete

Occasionally you’ll run into invasive species that you won’t need to scan to fully survey a planet. In Kreet’s case, that means you won’t need to scan or kill a Terrormorph to complete the challenge.

starfield kreet terrormorph

Kreet Flora

Kreet has a total of three species of flora, one per biome:

  • Nebula Vine

You find Dust Roots in the Volcanic biome, Nebula Vines in the Mountains biome, and Frost Reeds in the Frozen Volcanic biome. You can generally find them all over the place immediately after leaving your ship.

starfield kreet dust root

Kreet Fauna

The three species of fauna you’ll need to scan on Kreet are:

  • Kreet Stalker
  • Kreet Grazer

From what we can tell, you can find them in every biome. You’ll see some Trilobites immediately after leaving your ship when you first land on Kreet. Keep going forward in the general direction of the Kreet Research Lab and you’ll see your first Kreet Stalker.

starfield kreet trilobite

Kreet Grazers roam in packs and tend to favor Kreet’s valleys. We were able to find some directly to the east of the Research Lab. Usually, whenever you see Grazers, you’ll also be able to find some Trilobites, and so scanning these two shouldn’t be a problem.

Kreet Stalkers tend to be more elusive. They like to pretend to be rocks and whenever you spook them, they tend to burrow under the ground to emerge after a few seconds somewhere nearby. It took us a while to find 8 of them, but we had the best luck in mountainous areas.

Kreet Resources

Kreet has a total of 8 scannable resources, but every time we landed there immediately after the intro, we had Helium-3 listead as already scanned, and as such, had to find only 7 resource types. The complete resource list for Kreet is as follows:

With the game’s randomized nature, chances are you’ll find these in slightly different spots than we did, but we’ll still provide you with some general pointers for where to look and what to watch out for.

Argon in Starfield is presented as a small mound producing a plume of grey smoke. We were able to find several deposits right behind our starting location on Kreet.

starfield kreet argon

Iron in Starfield looks like a brownish chunk you can find sitting on top of rocks. We were blessed with some iron right after taking our first step on Kreet.

starfield kreet iron

Lead in Starfield looks a lot like Iron, but more greyish in color. We found some deposits a few steps to the right of our starting position on Kreet.

starfield kreet lead

Much like Iron and Lead, Silver in Starfield looks like a rock chunk. This time, a silvery one. We found one by simply walking down the path leading to the Research Lab.

starfield kreet silver

Alkanes in Starfield look similar to Argon – a smoke-emitting mound. Only the smoke here is darker. It took us a while to find some, but eventually we discovered a deposit relatively far to the east of the starting location and the Research Lab.

starfield kreet alkanes location

Water in Starfield resembles an elevated pool and as you might expect from space, it’s quite rare. We found some water way far to the east of the starting location and the Research Lab.

starfield kreet water location 1

Neon in Starfield looks like a reddish mound. It took us a long while to find some of it on Kreet. In fact, we had to go to the Mountains biome where it was located slightly to the east of our landing area. But since the other biomes are randomized much more than the starting one, your quest for Neon might take you in a completely opposite direction.

starfield kreet neon

Kreet Trait

Planets in Starfield have unique Traits that are essentially special points of interest that have more of a scientific as opposed to monetary value. In Kreet’s case it’s a series of Eroded Reef Outcroppings serving as evidence of long-vanished oceans.

Finding Kreet’s Traits can be a challenge due to Starfield’s procedural generation. The general rule of thumb is to manually land in a particular biome and then start exploring the points of interest found there, with the ones marked as map pins having a great track record for hiding Traits.

starfield kreet map pin

In all our tests of Kreet, we were able to discover its Trait in the Mountains biome by exploring the map pin point of interest directly to the south-west of our landing location.

starfield kreet trait location 2

Once we reached it, we saw a glowing smoking pool and the point of interest was renamed into Unexplored Geological Feature. Running around with our scanner out soon led us to a pair of large stone arches that are actually Eroded Reef Outcroppings. Scanning two of them once again renamed the point of interest, this time to Deep Ocean Deposits. Doing so, revealed Kreet’s Trait and completed our planetary survey.

And it’s strange, I have to scan as many as 4 in this area, I found 4/3 rock arches and I can’t find the last one, after approaching the glowing reefs we will get infected, we can barely stay alive

Searozha

Bro, it seems we don’t need to find all 4 rocks at the first (volcanic) area. May be we’ll find them in other biomes.

Starfield Fast Travel Between Planets

Home » Starfield » Starfield Fast Travel Between Planets

Space exploration is the main appeal of Starfield and learning how to fast travel between planets is essential for smooth gameplay. Though, Starfield’s interface takes some getting used to. If you are like us, you might have been a bit overwhelmed by all of the different prompts and options available. Space travel is ultimately not that hard in Starfield and once you master it, it’ll become second nature. Here’s some pointers to help you learn how to fast travel between planets in Starfield without a fuss.

Starfield Fast Travel Between Planets

How to Fast Travel in Starfield with Star System Map

In order to fast travel between different planets in Starfield , you will have to use the Starmap . Fast traveling to other planets is only possible by using your starship . Furthermore, you can only do it when you are sitting in the cockpit of your ship. To access the Starmap – press the menu button on your controller and then select the Starmap section in the upper left corner. Depending on where you are with your ship at this moment, you will first either see the surface of the planet you are on, or you will see the map of the star system that you are in.

travel to kreet starfield

The Starmap in Starfield has several different zoom levels . By pressing B on the controller you will go from the planet surface view to the star system view, and finally all the way to galaxy view. Meaning B is your Zoom Out . And the A button iz your Zoom In command. To travel to another planet you need to first locate it on the starmap and hover over it with your cursor. You will then get an option to fast travel to it by holding X on your controller. After a short animation, you will quickly find yourselves there. And if you want to fast travel between star systems you have to grav jump in Starfield .

How to Fast Travel to Kreet in Starfield

Learning how to fast travel comes into play at the very beginning of the game when you are sent to Kreet to find the pirate base there. This is part of the main story quest One Small Step . The game will tell you to use the missions part of the UI. This is, also, a legitimate way to fast travel. TIf you want to do it like that, then go into your Missions tab (press the Menu button and select the Missions section straight down). Select the mission (in this case – One Small Step ), and you should then get a prompt to Set Course to X (Kreet). You can then next hold X to fast travel when in the cockpit and you will instantaneously fast travel to Kreet .

Fast Traveling to Non-Explored Planets Versus Directly to POIs on Explored Planets

If the planet you’re traveling to is not explored, you can still fast travel to it. After scanning it you can land on any of the major POIs you discover. Again, on the Starmap, using A and B buttons on your controller, zoom into the planet view and hover over the POI you want to land on. Press and hold X to initiate landing.

Step-By-Step Fast Travel Between Planets in Starfield Explanation

To summerize, here’s how fast travel across planets functions in Starfield:

  • Step #1 : Be in your ship’s cockpit.
  • Step #2 : Open the Starmap by pressing the Menu button on your controller and pressing A while hovering over the top left section of the main menu (the Starmap sectrion).
  • Step #3 : Use B on the controller to zoom out to the planet/system/galaxy view. Use A to zoom in onto the system, planet, or planet point of interest you want to fast travel to.
  • Step #4 : While hovering over the destination you should be able to press X to set your course to that planet.
  • Step #5 : Hold X to fast travel there.

How to use Starfield photo mode to snap space shots

W ant to use Starfield photo mode but find yourself perplexed about how to enable the snap-happy feature? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Starfield is inarguably the biggest exclusive game to come to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in years, and as you explore its thousands of procedurally generated planets, you’ll undoubtedly want to document your adventures via virtual photos.

Initially, the process of actually getting photo mode to work in Starfield seems needlessly complicated. Though it appears in the pause menu right from the beginning of Bethesda’s epic sci-fi quest, it’s grayed out by default.

Before you can start taking proper pics in Starfield, you’ll first need to play through the opening ten or so minutes of the open-world RPG until the feature opens up.

There are actually two ways to initiate Starfield’s photo mode. Though the one that first pops up is a little more tricky to use than the second option that soon becomes available after you enter your hero’s spaceship and blast off from the game’s initial mining colony.

Below, we’ll guide you through the steps needed on how to enable photo mode in Starfield to ensure you’ll be an alien-snapping expert in no time at all.

Please note: The following guide assumes you are playing Starfield with a gamepad, and so certain steps show Xbox controller buttons, rather than keyboard inputs.

How to use Starfield photo mode

  • Complete the opening mine section until you reach 'the Artifact'
  • Once you awaken, press the Menu button, then the View button
  • Navigate to the ‘Photo Mode’ option, then enter it to start snapping
  • Leave Vectera and travel to Kreet to unlock the scanner
  • Once unlocked, press LB then click RS to open photo mode
  • Go to the pause menu and select ‘Photo Gallery’ to view your pics

Read on to see full illustrated instructions for each step.

1. Complete the opening mine section until you reach 'the Artifact'

Play through the opening mine section until you’re asked to interact with the ‘Artifact’ . Press the A button to engage with Starfield’s big opening McGuffin and your character will promptly pass out.

2. Once you awaken, press the Menu button, then the View button

After your character awakens, you’ll have access to the slightly more tricky method of accessing Starfield’s photo mode . To access this virtual camera feature, press the Menu button on your Xbox pad, then the View button .

3. Navigate to the ‘Photo Mode’ option, then enter it to start snapping

Once you’re in Starfield’s pause menu , press A on the ‘Photo Mode’ option and you can now start taking virtual pictures at pretty much any point during gameplay. Note that you can’t use photo mode during cutscenes or character conversations .

4. Leave Vectera and travel to Kreet to unlock the scanner

After a quick battle with mercenaries and a couple of quick goodbyes, you’ll enter your spaceship and leave the planet moon of Vectera . After a brief space flight tutorial that teaches you how to fight other ships and navigate the game’s starmap, set course for the planet Kreet by pressing the X button . Shortly after landing on the planet you’ll be given Starfield’s scanner : an item that lets you scan alien flora and fauna. The scanner also lets you access photo mode more quickly .

5. Once unlocked, press LB, then click RS to open photo mode

As soon as you encounter your first nasty alien beastie, Starfield will prompt you to use the scanner by pressing LB . Once in scan mode, click the right analog stick to enter photo mode . You now have permanent access to the easiest method of opening photo mode, so get snapping!

6. Go to the pause menu and select ‘Photo Gallery’ to view your pics

At any point during gameplay, press the Menu button , followed by the View button to get back to the pause menu . Simply scroll over to the ‘Photo Gallery’ tab, press A , then admire all of those incredible space shots you’ve been taking.

Congratulations! You now know how to use Starfield photo mode, and are officially an intergalactic Ansel Adams. Starfield is easily the best looking title Bethesda Game Studios has ever made, so make sure you regularly use photo mode to document the incredible sci-fi adventures that lie ahead.
