Au début des années 90, dans le quartier immigrant de Scarborough, à Toronto, Ruth, une mère d'origine caribéenne, tente d'élever deux garçons grandissants entre les guerres de gangs et le harcèlement policier. L'aîné, Francis, est fort, sûr de lui et rêve de devenir musicien; le cadet, Michael, est plus fragile, indécis et dépend largement de son frère, qui est devenu une sorte de père de substitution pour lui. CRITIQUE / La première scène de 33 tours, nouveau long métrage du cinéaste torontois Clement Virgo, résume bien le cœur de son récit : deux frères escaladent dans un bourdonnement menaçant un pylône électrique.

Un mélange de danger, d’une volonté de s’élever et d’une nécessaire solidarité s’exprime dans cette œuvre forte remarquée au Festival du film de Toronto et qui domine le tableau des nominations aux Prix Écrans canadiens.

Au centre de 33 tours ( Brother dans sa version originale anglaise) se trouvent deux frères très proches, qui n’ont jamais connu leur père. D’ascendance jamaïcaine, Michael (Lamar Johnson) et Francis (Aaron Pierre) avancent dans l’adolescence dans les années 90, dans un quartier défavorisé de Toronto.

Pendant que leur mère célibataire (Marsha Stephanie Blake) s’échine dans un travail de nuit, les garçons ont pris l’habitude depuis l’enfance de s’occuper l’un de l’autre. Ou c’est plutôt l’aîné Francis, plus frondeur, qui devient le pilier d’un Michael introverti, d’apparence plus fragile.

Dans un milieu où la violence et le profilage racial ne sont jamais bien loin, Francis nourrit des ambitions musicales sur une scène hip-hop foisonnante. Mais comme dirait sa mère, il cultive aussi de «mauvaises fréquentations».

Son petit frère reste dans son sillage. Mais avec un tempérament plus doux, il cherche sa vision de la masculinité en courtisant la belle voisine Aisha (Kiana Madeira).

Un drame prévisible, mais évitable, va venir tout bouleverser.

Ancré en deux temps séparés par une dizaine d’années, 33 tours trouve le ton juste pour parler de fraternité, d’immigration, mais également beaucoup de deuil et de résilience.

Dans cette adaptation du roman de David Chariandy, tout se fige dans la famille après le départ de l’un des leurs. La mère dépérit, le frère ne semble pas savoir comment vivre sa peine.

Il faudra le retour d’Aisha, une décennie plus tard, pour que les portes se rouvrent et que les sentiments se remettent en mouvement.

À l’écran, Clement Virgo dépeint un monde dur avec beaucoup de subtilité. Par ce grésillement nous ramenant aux lignes à haute tension, on sent que la menace rôde constamment.

Mais il y a aussi beaucoup de chaleur, de poésie et de vivacité dans l’esthétique de 33 tours , un film qui souligne à bien des égards l’importance de la fierté. Celle d’un fils qui refuse de se laisser marcher sur les pieds, celle d’une mère qui a trimé pour se bâtir une vie sur une terre d’adoption.

La musique est vibrante, les références visuelles multiples. Et la distribution portée par Lamar Johnson et Aaron Pierre fait preuve d’une indéniable chimie.

This tour was fun and interactive with the added bonus of free popcorn and water, plus candy you could earn by answering trivia questions! It was very nostalgic to see Las Vegas films of the past and present day as we rode down the Las Vegas strip! The actors (hosts) were funny, entertaining, and interactive with guests. Learned lots of behind the scenes information about the movies filmed here! The ride was smooth with comfortable seating. The length of the tour was perfect with a pit stop along the way. Would make for a fun date night, family night, bachelor or bachelorette party activity! Definitely plan to take the tour again with friends in town!

This company is a scam. They never showed up. Do not book with them, they will take your money and then not respond to phone messages. Highly do not recommended.

What a fun tour! The shuttle is outfitted with cool technology and I learned so much! The tour guides are actually actors and are very knowledgeable. Love that the tour goes on the strip and downtown, and it covered so much Las Vegas movie history.

Something new and different for Las Vegas. What a fun time! Its a full on experience with actors and some really cool technology.

Fun experience!! About an hour long tour down the Vegas strip lead by knowledgable actors who give you information about what you are seeing and host fun mini games. The tour bus is decked out with TVs, lights, and popcorn. Such an immersive experience. Highly recommend to locals or anyone visiting!

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Movie Hits New Milestone

Taylor Swift has again proven that she's a pop culture icon after hitting another impressive milestone with her Eras Tour movie.

Swift embarked on the juggernaut global venture in March 2023 and eventually released a concert movie of it—titled Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour —which smashed box office records after its release in October.

It made $92 million in its first weekend and became the highest-grossing domestic concert film of all time just on those opening days. It also made $26 million on the first day of advanced ticket sales . The previous record of $16.9 million was held by Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021 .

Now it has surpassed $260 million at the box office, grossing $261,656,269 worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.

Domestically it has made $180,756,269, which is 69.1 percent of the total, and internationally it has raked in $80,900,000, accounting for 30.9 percent.

Newsweek emailed Swift's publicist for comment Wednesday.

The concert movie was shown in AMC , Cinemark and Regal cinemas in the U.S. and was also shown in Canada and Mexico. AMC previously confirmed that tickets for the Eras Tour movie were the highest advance sales in the company's 103-year history.

The entertainment company had already planned to run four showtimes per day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, but then said "to accommodate this extraordinary demand... AMC already is adding additional auditoriums to play the concert film at numerous theaters throughout the United States."

Now fans can stream the Eras Tour movie online through platforms such as Amazon Prime, Disney+ and Apple TV depending on their location.

This year has already been huge for Swift, who not only became the first person to win Album of the Year four times at the Grammys in February but in January, she became the first person to have five albums each with over 7 billion streams on Spotify.

Swift's Eras Tour previously broke the Guinness World Record for the highest-grossing tour of all time. The 34-year-old singer-songwriter's dates began in March 2023 and are set to conclude in December 2024 after a total of 152 shows worldwide.

The tour's last concert was a sold-out show at the 55,000-seat National Stadium in Singapore on March 9. Swift is taking an extended break before her next concert, in France in May.

"We got to play 6 shows in Singapore for the most wonderful crowds — just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who traveled and put so much effort into being at our shows," Swift wrote on Instagram on March 10.

"What an unforgettable way to end this leg of the tour!! See you in May when we get back to the Eras Tour!! In the meantime, I've got an album to release."

Swift's success this year doesn't end there as she sent fans into a frenzy by releasing her highly anticipated album, The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD) on April 19.

Two hours after TTPD dropped, Swift revealed the ultimate bombshell to her legions of fans: she was releasing a secret double album. The second part includes 15 extra songs, bringing the total of newly released tracks to 31.

Within hours, TTPD started smashing streaming records, including becoming Spotify's most-streamed album in one day. TTPD got 300 million streams in 24 hours, Spotify revealed on its social media.

This broke the previous record that Swift also held with her album Midnights which achieved the feat of 185 million listens in a day.

Megadeth Announces Destroy All Enemies U.S. Tour

Tickets for the 33-city nationwide tour on-sale this friday, april 26.

Megadeth is bringing its iconic live show to North America with a 33-city, nationwide tour, Destroy All Enemies, produced by Live Nation, this fall including stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Boston, St. Louis and many more. Loosely adapted from Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” Anyone But You stars Glen Powell as Ben, a finance bro who has an incredible first date with Bea (Sydney Sweeney), a law student uncertain about her career. After spending the night, Bea panics and leaves without telling him. When she realizes she made a mistake and returns to his apartment, she overhears Ben saying that she is a “nothing” to him.

Years later, they unexpectedly reunite at a destination wedding in Australia for Bea’s sister, who is marrying Ben’s friend. When their exes show up, they pretend to be a couple—and the rest is history. The film was directed and co-written by Will Gluck, the filmmaker behind rom-coms like Easy A and Friends with Benefits . Anyone But You was filmed in parts of Australia around New South Wales and Sydney. Director Will Gluck told The Hollywood Reporter that he wanted the film set in Sydney because he had “really fallen in love with the city” and liked it so much he moved his family there.

“Almost every time you shoot a movie in Sydney, you have to pretend it’s somewhere else and frame out the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. For Anyone But You , I thought, “Why do that?” We actually wrote this movie 100 percent for Sydney — very specific to the destination,” Gluck wrote.

The director continued, “We flew helicopters all over — seeing the city from that vantage point is stunning — and landed one at the Opera House, shut down the Harbour Bridge, filmed at the Queen Victoria Building, and shot for two weeks overlooking Bondi Beach,” he said. “We spent a week on a boat in Sydney Harbour shooting a scene where they’re stranded on a buoy, but you can’t have humans in the water without a shark cage, so we had to have one the whole time. You pinch yourself. It’s so unbelievable we were actually doing these things.”

Many of Anyone But You ’s breathtaking beach scenes were filmed around Palm Beach. Director Will Gluck told THR that one of the best parts of filming was on location in Palm Beach, a suburb in the Northern Beaches.

“Our caravans were parked right on the water, and Glen and Sydney and I decided to live there the whole time. We’d shoot all day and all the crew would go home, then we’d jump in the water and have a swim, go to our trailers and have dinner sitting outside,” he said. “It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world, and you normally wouldn’t be allowed to sleep there. It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had filming.”

Fandango veteran Stephanie Terifay has been tapped to help AMC Theatres build out its new movie distribution business following the record-shattering success of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour tour and Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé .

Terifay’s title is vice president, distribution. In the newly created role, she’ll be responsible for working with the music industry to develop other projects, come up with customized distribution strategies and marketing campaigns designed to optimize fan engagement.

Last year, Hollywood was caught off guard when Swift’s team bypassed the Hollywood studio system and hired AMC as the film’s distributor. It was virtually unheard of for movie theater operators to play the role of a distributor, but The Eras Tour grossed $261.6 million globally, and Beyoncé quickly followed suit with her own film that grossed $43.9 million domestically.

At Fandango, Terifay led the integrated marketing team and worked closely with Hollywood studios, independent distributors, theatrical exhibitors, and brand partners to drive consumer awareness and ticket sales. Prior to Fandango, she led partner marketing for brands including like Sundance Institute, Film Independent, Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Los Angeles Clippers and The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

“The remarkable success of AMC Theatres Distribution last Fall opened an exciting new business for AMC, and we are thrilled to have Stephanie Terifay’s expertise and enthusiasm build upon the brilliant leadership of Nikkole Denson-Randolph,” AMC Chief Content Officer Elizabeth Frank said in statement.

Megadeth announces North America tour, closing out with a Nashville stop

Megadeth has announced a 2024 fall  "Destroy All Enemies Tour" that will take them all across North America. On Sept. 28, the thrash metal band will end their tour in Nashville at the Municipal Auditorium.

The 33-show tour, produced by Live Nation, will feature support from Mudvayne and All That Remains.

The two-month tour will kick off on Aug. 2 in Rogers, AR before hitting cities in Texas, California, Nevada, Florida, North Carolina and more.

The band, comprised of vocalist and guitarist Dave Mustaine, bassist James LoMenzo, guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari and drummer Dirk Verbeuren, is known for songs "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due" and "Symphony of Destruction."

They most recently released their 2022 album "The Sick, The Dying...And The Dead!"

“Our ‘Crush The World’ tour has been a tremendous experience for the four of us,” said singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine in a statement.

“We are all playing tight, and that has made it possible for me to really focus on solos and singing, we are playing more songs than ever before, and we are closer to each other, onstage AND off. I’m excited to see Mudvayne, and All That Remains. Join us as we DESTROY ALL ENEMIES.”

Henry Cavill stars as the titular character in Argylle , which features an easy-to-miss reunion between Cavill and one of the actor's co-stars from a popular Netflix movie franchise. The 2024 spy action comedy film, directed by Matthew Vaughn and written by Jason Fuchs, revolves around a reclusive spy novelist — Elly Conway, played by Bryce Dallas Howard — who finds herself tangled up with spies and criminals after her latest book somehow details real-life events. The movie features numerous shocking moments (including a twist during Argylle 's post-credits scene ) as Elly tries to evade the Division, an evil organization.

Enola Holmes and Enola Holmes 2 are available to stream on Netflix, and Argylle is streaming on Apple TV+.

Sadly, Argylle received mostly negative reviews , with some critics claiming that its plot was too convoluted and silly and that its lengthy runtime was unnecessary. The spy action comedy also bombed at the box office , as it only grossed $96 million against a $200 million budget. Nevertheless, Argylle 's streaming debut on Apple TV+ seems to be making up for its previous failures, and perhaps the draw of a reunion between Cavill and one of his former co-stars will draw more people in and entice them to watch the film.

Argylle's Henry Cavill & Louis Partridge Are Both In Netflix's Enola Holmes Movies

Partridge is confirmed to be reprising his role in the cast of the prequel Argylle series, and there's always a possibility of Cavill popping up in the upcoming show.
