Delta Air Lines

• Delta Air Lines offers different classes of travel, including Basic Economy, Main Cabin, Delta Comfort+, Domestic First Class, Premium Select, and Delta One.
• Basic Economy is the cheapest fare class with fewer amenities and seat selection restrictions. Main Cabin offers advanced seat selection and other benefits.
• Delta Comfort+ provides extra legroom, priority boarding, and dedicated overhead bin space. Domestic First Class offers spacious seats and additional amenities like fine dining and expedited baggage service.

Airline cabins have greatly expanded from the days of just economy and first class. Today, carriers have several different classes and different seats depending on the aircraft and travel distance. Delta Air Lines has adopted this over the years, with three classes on international flights and two on domestic or regional flights. Here's the breakdown.

Basic economy

Basic economy is technically a fare class, not a different cabin. Booking the cheapest ticket means no checked bags, one carry-on, no cancelations, and no free seat selection until check-in. Amenities vary by distance, so expect meals and snacks on long-haul routes, but just soft drinks on domestic services.

Your seat will vary significantly depending on where you're flying, but is the same as every other economy class passenger's seat. On regional CRJ-200/700/900, expect a tighter 2-2 layout, a standard 3-3 on the mainline narrowbodies like the 737, and 2-3-2 or 3-3-3 on widebodies like the A350 or A330neo.

Across the fleet, you can expect to get 30" to 32" of pitch on all planes, from the CRJ-900s to the A350-900s. It's certainly not the most, but it's in line with the competition as well.

Delta's Main Cabin experience is a step up from basic economy, as it allows you to choose where you sit in advance. You'll also get benefits like earlier boarding, free date changes, and advance seat assignments (except Preferred and Comfort+ seats).

For a small fee, passengers can also choose a Preferred Seat. These are typically located near the front of the plane, or in emergency exit rows, which offer more legroom.

Delta Comfort+

Booking a Delta Comfort+ ticket is where the added extras really start to kick in . For example, this class of travel gets you priority boarding. Furthermore, once you're onboard the aircraft, you'll have a seat that reclines up to 50% further than standard Main Cabin seats and offers up to four inches more legroom. Comfort+ seats are located at the right of the front of the economy cabin on all of Delta's aircraft.

Comfort+ passengers are allocated dedicated overhead bin space to keep their belongings conveniently close. This is always a welcome relief on busy flights when such space is at a premium. Early boarding also means skipping the dreaded gate check, allowing you to take your carry-on all the way to the destination.

On long-haul international flights, in addition to a sleep kit, passengers are also given an amenity kit. This contains useful items such as eyeshades, earplugs, a toothbrush, and toothpaste.

Domestic First Class

On domestic aircraft, Delta offers two cabins: Main Cabin and First. Hard product-wise, the First cabin is laid out in a 2-2 configuration. Each seat features a leather recliner, and Delta's newest A321neos even have seat dividers and pod-style privacy guards.

You'll also benefit from accelerated check-in, security, and baggage handling. You'll have a spacious seat with up to eight inches of extra legroom, a pre-set pillow, an in-seat power port, and an entertainment screen of up to 13 inches. This is typically the best cabin on Delta's narrowbodies, although certain Boeing 757s are fitted with the luxurious Delta One product.

Complimentary drinks, snacks, and fine dining meal options are available on all flights, as well as more personalized service. On arrival at your destination, an expedited baggage service ensures that you get your luggage first. Particularly on longer hops, these various aspects can make first class worth the upgrade.

Delta Premium Select

Better known as premium economy, Premium Select is offered on Delta's widebodies, and got a perky upgrade in 2022 . The seats are fairly similar to the domestic first class seats, with leather recliners, 13" entertainment screens, and an adjustable legrest.

Fine dining meal options are served on premium flatware for an enhanced experience. You'll receive a complimentary Tumi amenity kit with Malin & Goetz travel essentials, socks, eyeshades, a hand cleansing towelette, and more. On long-haul flights, this can represent an excellent compromise for those who want more comfort than economy class without having to pay for lie-flat seats.

Sitting at the top of the hierarchy in terms of Delta's classes of travel, the top-tier service on international and select domestic long-haul flights is Delta One. The airline's flagship business class product has plenty of benefits on the ground, like access to Sky Clubs and priority access through check-in and security.

Onboard, you can stretch out on the 180-degree lie-flat seats, with a duvet and soft pillows, all enclosed in a pod with a door. The seat has been rated as one of the best in the US, and with solid service and meal selections out of its hubs, it has quickly become a fan favorite (assuming you can pick up the tab!).

Delta baggage fees are pretty similar to what other major carriers like United and American but there are some differences. In this article, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about the different types of baggage policies and fees for personal items, carry-ons, and checked baggage . I’ll also show you several ways that you can avoid paying Delta baggage fees, including those on international flights.

What are the Delta baggage fees?

Delta allows you to bring on one personal item and one carry-on item free of charge and will usually charge $35 each way for your first checked bag at or under 50 pounds. The price for additional bags will depend on the route you’re taking and on additional factors as well.  Keep reading below for more specifics on the baggage fees.

How to get free checked baggage with Delta

There are numerous ways to avoid checked baggage fees on delta airlines. One of the easiest and quickest methods is to just get the right credit card but I will cover all the different routes you can go below.

Delta credit cards baggage benefits

If you have an eligible SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express, you receive your first bag free on Delta flights booked with your SkyMiles Credit Card. The benefit extends to up to eight travel companions listed on the cardmember’s reservation (for a total of nine passengers).

Here is a list of eligible cards:

• Gold Delta SkyMiles Credit Card
• Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card
• Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card
• Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card
• Delta Reserve Credit Card
• Delta Reserve Business Credit Card

The Delta credit cards offer welcome bonuses tend to come and go throughout the year so for cards like the Gold and Platinum card, you want to make sure that you’re jumping on those cards when the welcome offers are the highest.

Typically, I would try to find these cards offering 60,000 miles or more for a welcome bonus. However, if you are primarily concerned with free baggage, then you might want to just jump on these cards right away!

Delta elite status baggage policy

If you have elite status with Delta they will reward you with free baggage (up to three bags). Here’s what you can expect to get from Medallion status.

Flights within the US

• Silver: One free 70 pound bag
• Gold : Two free 70 pound bags
• Platinum: Three free 70 pound bags
• Diamond: Three free 70 pound bags

You’ll also get an additional 50 pound bag for free when flying between other international destinations.

Also, if you are flying first class (Delta One) you can get three free 70 pound bags regardless of status level. And if you are flying Delta premium select you can get three free 50 pound bags regardless of status level.

Delta military baggage policy

If you are an active military member flying with Delta you can get many bags for free . When on military orders your bags can be 80 inches and for personal travel your bags can be 62 inches. If you are traveling on military orders you can get five free 100 pound bags regardless of what type of class you are flying. So for example if you are flying basic economy or you are flying first class you will get five free 100 pound bags each time.

Things are a little bit different if you are flying for personal travel. If you’re flying for personal travel then you will only get two free 50 pound bags if you are flying basic economy, main cabin, or Delta comfort plus. If you’re flying Delta premium select you get three free 50 pound bags. However, if you are flying first class, or Delta one you will get three free 70 pound bags. Delta carry-on & personal item rules

Delta allows you to bring on one personal item and one carry-on. This is very similar to other major US airlines but different from those budget carriers like Spirit and Frontier that love to charge you for carry-on items. One thing that makes Delta unique is that with their basic economy product , you still get a free carry-on.

What are Delta personal items?

Delta personal items may consist of the following:

• Laptop computer (computers cannot be checked)
• 1 item of a similar or smaller size to those listed above

Typically, a small backpack may be considered a personal item as well and they won’t give you any trouble unless you’re trying to bring along a giant backpack. There’s also a list of items that don’t count as personal items and they are as follows:

• A jacket and/or umbrella
• Food or drink purchased after clearing the security checkpoint
• Duty-free merchandise
• Special items like strollers, child restraint seats or assistive devices such as wheelchairs or crutches

What are the Delta carry-on dimensions?

• Baggage may not exceed 45 linear inches (or 114 cm) in combined length, width and height , including any handles and wheels, with the exception of small musical instruments that fit in the overhead compartment space or under-seat space available at the time of boarding .
• Baggage must meet carry on size limits (approximately 22″ x 14″ x 9″ or 56 x 35 x  23 cm) .

Passengers traveling on Delta Connection flights, and only those flights with 50 seats or less, are only permitted to carry personal items on board the aircraft due to limited overhead space.

Delta checked baggage policy

Your checked baggage must not exceed 62 inches when you total the length + width + height. Your bag must also be no more than 50 pounds unless one of the exceptions applies that allow you to have bags up to 70 or 100 pounds.

You should note that there are separate fees for each limitation you exceed: size, weight and quantity . So let’s say that you were checking an extra bag that also exceeded your weight allowance of 50 pounds and that the bag was also oversized. In that case you’d be subject to three fees: one for the extra bag, one for exceeding the weight limit and one for going over the size restriction.

Delta domestic checked baggage fees

The standard amount that you will pay for your first checked bag will be $35. However, the prices for checked luggage change depending on the route that you’re flying. Below are some of the fees you can expect to pay for domestic travel when traveling in basic economy, main cabin, or Delta Comfort+.

• 1st bag: $35
• 2nd bag: $45
• 3rd bag: $150
• 4th+ bag: $200 each

If you are traveling in first class, Delta Premium Select, or Delta One, you’ll be able to bring along two free checked bags up to 70 pounds on just about every route. 

Delta international checked baggage fees

When it comes to international flights, the baggage fees can change a lot depending on your destination. Here are some prices you might run into for travel around North America.

Travel between US and Canada

• 1st bag: $35 USD/CAD
• 2nd bag: $45 USD/CAD

Travel between US and Mexico

• 1st bag: $30 USD/CAD
• 2nd bag: $55 USD/CAD

It’s worth noting that for some international routes you don’t have to pay for your checked luggage at all!

For example, your first two bags can be checked for free when traveling from North America to the following countries: Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, & Yemen.

There are also a lot of other places that give you your first two bags for free when flying to or from the US like Australia, India, and many countries in Africa, South America, and Asia.

First class, Delta Premium Select, and Delta One baggage fees

As stated, you can check two bags free if you are flying First class, Delta Premium Select, or Delta One. Moreover, these bags can weigh up to 70 pounds each. This is the standard allowance of premium passengers that other airlines offer as well.

Special baggage limitations

Geographical restrictions with delta baggage.

Many airlines have special limitations on baggage when traveling to certain destination during certain times and Delta is no different.

For example, you may be limited to a maximum of one or two checked pieces of luggage when flying to places like Key West, Florida (EYW), Quito, Ecuador (UIO), the list goes on and on.

So they key is that if you have plans to fly out of the country on Delta and you are planning on bringing a lot of luggage with you, you need to first verify that you’re allowed to bring so much luggage with you during that time. 

What is the total number of bags you can check with Delta?

You can check up to 10 bags per passenger on flights operated by Delta, Delta Shuttle or Delta Connection. Delta does reserve the right to limit the amount of baggage you bring on the plane when the excess prevents them from transporting up to two bags per passenger.

Can you bring excess bags on Delta Connection flights?

Delta Connection carriers will accept excess baggage but only on a space-available basis . If the baggage cannot be carried on the same flight with you, it will be transported on the next available flight.

Delta special baggage items

Delta has some special rules for certain items such as fragile items, sports equipment, medical supplies, etc. Here’s a rundown of some of those policies.

Fragile or bulky items

If you are traveling with something bulky or very fragile, you may want to purchase a ticket for your fragile item so that you can store your item in any passenger seat with a physical bulkhead or divider in front of the compartment.

You’ll need to contact reservations to see about the fee for this but if you wish to do this the item must not exceed 100 pounds and also meet some other requirements you can find here .

Also, if you’re checking something fragile, you might need to fill out a limitation of liability form .

Here’a list of potential fragile or bulky items:

• Amplifiers 
• Fishing Rods
• Musical Equipment
• Televisions
• Tennis Racquets

Sports equipment

If you want to bring your special sporting equipment with you on a Delta flight you’ll probably be allowed. Many of the different types of equipment will require you to pay a special fee if they are large or heavy. This fee will likely be around $150 but it depends on the route. Also, be aware that certain countries have specific rules about bringing in certain types of equipment so make sure that you’re aware about that.

Musical instruments or equipment can be checked if the total linear dimension (length + width + height) does not exceed 150 inches (381 cm), and provided the weight, including the case, does not exceed 165lbs (75 kg).

You can get your baggage protected from getting lost or being damaged in the transport with many different types of credit cards. But you can also purchase baggage protection from Delta. The fee will be paid at check-in and will change depending on the route and value of your luggage. Here are what the fees look like.

As our mutual customers begin to plan for future business or leisure travel, they often have questions regarding travel restrictions, entry requirements, required documentation or health requirements. Delta is committed to providing the information our mutual customers need to prepare for a safe and secure trip.

All passengers, regardless of citizenship, will need to consent to  Contact Tracing  . Delta will collect this information for its passengers on behalf of the CDC at check-in.    

Delta FlyReady SM  is our digital tool that helps customers verify that they’ve met their destination’s passport and visa requirements prior to travel. Delta FlyReady is currently available to customers traveling between the U.S. and select international destinations as well as for customers traveling from select international destinations to the U.S.

Customers will be able to use Delta FlyReady to complete their contact tracing information – a key entry requirement imposed by the U.S. government for travelers entering the U.S.

Documentation and entry requirements are different for every country. Prior to travel, Delta recommends that travel professionals check the  passport, visa & health travel document requirements for each country.

A passport is required for all international travel. A passport is required to board an international flight and to enter any country. In general, a passport must be valid for at least six months after the date of entry into a foreign country. Visit the U. S. State Department's  website for information on obtaining first time passports, passport renewals, second passport issuance and extra blank pages for an existing passport. 

A travel visa is required to enter many countries. For information regarding countries that require a visa, visit TravelCentre for more information.

Advanced Passenger Information (API) 

To enhance border security, electronic transmission of passenger information through the Advanced Passenger Information (API) system has been mandated with the U.S. Aviation and Transportation Security Act. All passengers entering/departing the U.S. by air are required to have this information transmitted to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), allowing U.S. CBP to review all passenger data in advance of the flight's arrival. All international flights arriving and departing the U.S. are required by law to provide API data. API data is also transmitted to Customs and Immigration Officials in all other countries when required by law.

U.S. Entry/Exit Requirements for Non-U.S. Citizens

Visa Waiver Program

• The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) requires travelers to submit an online request for travel authorization via the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), prior to boarding a carrier to travel by air or sea to the United States. This allows visitors from participating countries to get speedy approval for travel to the U.S. for business or pleasure for 90 days or less without first obtaining a visa. Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) for Visa Waiver Program Travelers

• For travel to or connecting through the U.S., the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requires all Visa Waiver Program (VWP) nationals to obtain an electronic travel authorization prior to boarding. This authorization is known as the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, or ESTA.  To begin your ESTA application now, visit the Department of Homeland Security website.
• Nationals of a Visa Waiver country may be able to submit an online request at CIBTvisas.com for travel authorization via the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). This allows visitors from participating countries to get speedy approval for travel to the United States for business or pleasure for 90 days or less.

Passport Requirements for Western Hemisphere Travel (WHTI)

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) requires all citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda to have a passport or other accepted document that establishes the bearer’s identity and nationality to enter or depart the United States from within the Western Hemisphere.

Global Entry

Global Entry is a program developed by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to expedite entry into the U.S. for low-risk, pre-screened international travelers. Upon arriving in the U.S., members proceed directly to the automated Global Entry kiosk — bypassing passport control lines and paper customs declarations.

Global Entry is now available at over 40 major U.S. airports. For a complete list of locations you can visit the Global Entry website .

A non-refundable application fee of $100 per applicant will be charged at the time of application. If approved, membership is valid for five years. Here's how the application/approval process works:

1.       Complete an application online and pay the non-refundable application fee

What to Know Before Flying Delta Air Lines, According to Passenger Reviews

Here's everything you need to know before you fly, according to Delta Air Lines reviews.

Since its humble beginnings as a crop-dusting outfit founded in Macon, Georgia in 1925, Delta has grown into one of the largest airlines on the planet. In a typical year, the carrier flies as many as 200 million passengers to 300 destinations in over 50 countries around the globe on its fleet of nearly 800 aircraft.

Delta also partners with other international carriers like Air France-KLM, Korean Air, and Virgin Atlantic. The airline has major hubs in Atlanta, Detroit, Los Angeles, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New York City, Salt Lake City, and Seattle, so chances are you might be flying with Delta sometime soon. If so, here's everything you need to know about Delta Air Lines before booking, including feedback based on passenger reviews.

Fare Classes

Like many other airlines, Delta offers a variety of fare classes , which can get confusing.

Basic Economy

Starting at the bottom, Basic Economy , or "E" fares, are the cheapest. Seat assignments can only be made after check-in, and you cannot change your flight or receive a refund for cancellation beyond 24 hours from booking. Whether you have Medallion elite status or not, tickets are not eligible for:

• Paid or complimentary upgrades
• Paid, complimentary, or discounted Delta Comfort+ (extra legroom) seats
• Paid or complimentary Preferred seats (window or aisle seats toward the front)
• Same-day confirmed or standby changes

Despite those drawbacks, many fliers feel like the savings are worth it, especially if you check in as soon as you're able to and can snag a seat. That's what Tripadvisor commenter Solo Traveler did, saying, "I was able to select the same seat at check-in that I would normally have chosen, and saved myself a substantial sum (about $125)."

If you book a Main Cabin , or regular economy, fare, you will be able to select some seats for free at booking. You will also have the option to purchase Preferred (aisle and window) and Comfort+ (extra legroom) seats as well as paid upgrades, or complimentary ones depending on your elite status. Unless they opt for very expensive fully refundable tickets, passengers who purchase fares in Main Cabin and higher will be able to cancel or change tickets subject to certain restrictions (we'll get into that below), and may receive credits to apply to a future flight.

Comfort+

Delta Comfort+ is the airline's moniker for extra legroom economy, but this fare class also includes dedicated overhead space, priority boarding, and extra snacks and amenities compared to Main Cabin. Sure, you pay more for these places, but according to Tripadvisor commenter Nelson, "I really thought the Comfort option was worth the price. Excellent leg room, great movie screens, premium snacks and ear buds, great luggage compartments, preferred boarding, etc., were worth the additional cost!"

Premium Select

Delta introduced Premium Select international premium economy in 2017 with much larger seats as well as updated entertainment screens and better amenities than in economy.

Folks in this cabin also receive Sky Priority service at the airport with expedited check-in, security, and baggage services as well as priority boarding. These cabins are only available on the airline's Airbus A330-900neos and A350s, and certain Boeing 777-200s and 767-400s.

First Class

Despite the name, First Class is not Delta's most premium option. It only applies to domestic and regional flights, and it pretty much resembles Premium Select. That said, you'll get a higher baggage allowance plus better food and drinks than economy passengers, and be among the first to board.

Finally, the airline's flagship cabin is Delta One , which includes podlike lie-flat seats and those fancy suites the airline unveiled back in 2016 on long-haul international routes as well as premium transcontinental services like New York to Los Angeles.

Delta One passengers receive Sky Priority treatment at the airport and can access Delta Sky Clubs when flying internationally, and they're among the first on the plane.

Flight Change and Cancellation Policies

There are no change or cancellation fees if you purchase tickets in Main Cabin or above on flights originating from North America, and you will receive the original airfare as an eCredit. However, you will have to pay the price difference if your new flight is more expensive than your original flight.

For Basic Economy tickets (which are non-refundable), you will be charged a cancellation fee starting at $99. This may be higher depending on your itinerary — you can find the exact fee under the "Fare Rules" of your ticket. The remaining value of your ticket, minus the fee, will become an eCredit to be used for future flights.

Although that leaves a bit of flexibility for travelers, as Tripadvisor board user Joe C discovered, future flight credits have their limits. "Booked a [flight] last year only to be told that my trip was canceled and I'd receive a 'credit' for future travel," he wrote. "Tried to book a new reservation … only to be told the [price] had quintupled! Gee, thanks Delta … Now I know why they gave a travel credit instead of a refund!"

Standing by for a more convenient flight is free, but if you want to make a same-day change to a confirmed seat on a different flight, it'll cost you at least $75 (unless you have Delta Gold Medallion status or higher).

Baggage Policies and Fees

Whether or not you can check a bag for free will depend on the ticket you buy and whether you have Medallion elite status or a Delta credit card. You can determine your baggage fees with the airline's useful calculator.

If you're in Basic Economy without elite status or an airline credit card, you can bring a carry-on bag, but will have to pay for checked luggage pretty much wherever you fly. Prices start at $30 for the first bag within the U.S. or $75 internationally.

Main Cabin and Delta Comfort+ customers on flights within the U.S. pay $30 for the first checked bag and $40 for the second. Some prices are higher if flying to Mexico, but other international itineraries, such as Europe or Asia, include a free first checked bag.

Folks in First Class, Premium Select, and Delta One generally get two checked bags for free.

If you have a Delta American Express credit card, or Medallion elite status, you will get one or two checked bags free no matter what fare you book, depending on your specific combination of benefits.

Boarding Order

Delta's normal boarding procedures follow this order:

• Preboarding of customers needing assistance or additional time to board, plus active U.S. military
• Delta One and First Class passengers
• Diamond Medallion members
• Delta Premium Select customers
• Early boarding for passengers with car seats or strollers
• Delta Comfort+ passengers
• Sky Priority, including Delta's own elites and those of some partner airlines
• Main Cabin passengers with elite status
• Main Cabin passengers without elite status
• Basic Economy customers

That's a lot of groups, as Yelper Nancy M. wrote . "It starts with an indecipherable boarding process that 'pre-boards' half the aircraft." Other fliers have noticed that if you're not among the first few groups to board, you're likely to be asked to gate check your carry-on.

Seats and Legroom

Delta has a plethora of planes, so the exact dimensions of your seat will depend on the aircraft type and class of service. In general, though, expect the following range of sizes.

Economy seats are between 16 and 18.6 inches wide, with 30 to 33 inches of pitch (the distance from seatback to seatback), and two or three inches of recline. Depending on the type of plane you're on, they can be laid out in anything from a 2 – 2 pattern to one that is 2 – 4 – 2 or 3 – 3 – 3.

Most fliers seem to find the seats themselves serviceable, if tight for longer rides. SkyTrax commenter N Harkov said of his economy experience on an A330, "Seat was quite comfortable, but legroom was not so great (I am six feet tall) … Overall, it isn't bad, but I was definitely happy to stretch my legs after 10 hours aboard."

Comfort+ seats have the same width and recline, but offer up to 34 inches of pitch.

Domestic first class seats tend to be 20 to 21 inches wide with 35 to 39 inches of pitch, laid out in a 2 – 2 pattern.

Folks in Premium Select are seated in a 2 – 3 – 2 or 2 – 4 – 2 configuration and can expect chairs that are 18.5 inches wide with 38 inches of pitch and up to seven inches of recline.

According to Charles1019 on Tripadvisor, who flew Premium Select in March 2020, "These seats are like the original first class seats used internationally years ago by Delta, with some upgrades. You can fully recline your seat without the possibility of making the passenger behind you mad. Lots of space. They have retractable leg rests, and the television screen is much bigger than the largest domestic versions. Super comfortable flight all around!"

Finally, folks in Delta One sit in a 1 – 2 – 1 pattern so everyone has direct aisle access. Seats are 21 to 22.5 inches wide and recline to flat beds that are 71 to 80 inches long. If you're on the A350 or A330-900neo, your pod will also have its own closing door for privacy.

That feature seemed to blow Tripadvisor commenter The Travel Squad away on a January 2020 flight: "Great experience flying business in the … Delta One Suites. The best business class experience so far, full privacy in the suite, great food and service."

Amenities and Entertainment

Food and Beverage

Shorter domestic flights will serve a selection of packaged snacks, coffee, tea, and bottled water in economy, while passengers in higher classes might receive complimentary wine, beer, soft drinks, and juices (Main Cabin customers can purchase these on longer domestic flights).

According to recent short-haul Main Cabin flier The_Wanderer1992 on Tripadvisor, "They had a limited snack offering with a small bottle of water, peanuts and cookies."

On some Hawaii flights and international routes, folks in Main Cabin and Comfort+ receive one meal service including a choice of entrée and dessert plus a full selection of beverage options including complimentary beer, wine, and spirits. Tripadvisor commenter ESPASSOC, who flew from Atlanta to Honolulu non-stop, described the food as "tasty for the main meal and served with both complimentary soft drinks and/or alcoholic beverage."

Those in Delta Premium Select receive a larger meal that includes salad and bread, while the lucky few in Delta One get pre-departure bottled water, more gourmet menus served with the airline's bespoke Alessi flatware, and a full selection of beverages.

According to Tripadvisor reviewer brmusicman, the Delta One meal on his flight from Sydney to Los Angeles was "elegantly presented and tasty. A tray of appetizers including marinated shrimps, an arugula salad with tomatoes and mozzarella, and a tasty soup. The main course was a well-prepared fish. Ice cream and cheese for dessert hit the spot. The wine selection was not excellent, but was suitable."

Onboard Comfort

On long-haul flights, Main Cabin and Comfort+ passengers get pillows and blankets, and they receive basic amenity kits containing toothbrushes and toothpaste, eyeshades, earplugs, and a cleansing towelette. There are Tumi pouches with all that plus socks and Le Labo lip balm and facial mist in Premium Select, while Delta One passengers receive Someone Somewhere kits with Grown Alchemist lip balm and hand cream.

In-flight Wi-Fi

Delta provides Wi-Fi for purchase on nearly all its flights and offers free mobile messaging on iMessage, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp via its onboard network, which many passengers seem to appreciate in their Yelp and Tripadvisor comments.

Wi-Fi is not always guaranteed, though. Tripadvisor user wanderinstyle, who flew from New York to Tokyo via Los Angeles, and back, mentioned, "I had Wi-Fi all the way from LAX to Tokyo and from New York to Los Angeles. On the way to New York from Los Angeles there was no internet, it was down," punctuating the disappointment with a frowning emoji. While that seems to be rare, make sure you've loaded any websites you'll need to access in flight, just in case.

Entertainment and Outlets

The airline also features over 1,000 hours of free entertainment including movies and TV series via its Delta Studio system, which passengers can view on seatback touchscreens on most of its mainline aircraft.

Yelper Kim V. said , "The in-flight individual entertainment was just awesome … The screens were big and the colors vibrant … They also had a USB port for cell phone charging."

Speaking of which, most planes have in-seat power and USB ports installed for keeping devices charged in flight, though some older aircraft, including Boeing 757s and 737s, do not have power plugs in large portions of their economy cabins. Be sure to check the availability of power ports on your specific flight by looking through the amenities key on Delta's booking page.

Delta Credit Cards

Depending on how many miles you hope to rack up, how often you fly Delta, and what perks you're looking for, you might want to consider one of these three credit cards.

The Delta SkyMiles Gold American Express Card typically offers anywhere from 40,000 to 70,000 bonus miles after eligible spending on purchases. It earns two miles per dollar on Delta purchases, on dining, and at U.S. supermarkets; and one on everything else. Cardholders get their first checked bag for free, priority boarding, and 20 percent back on in-flight food purchases. Its $99 annual fee is waived the first year.

One step up, the Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express Card usually offers between 50,000 and 90,000 bonus miles (plus 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles toward elite status in some cases) after eligible spending on purchases. It earns three miles per dollar on purchases from Delta and at hotels, and two miles per dollar on dining and at U.S. supermarkets, then one mile per dollar on everything else. Cardholders receive a domestic Main Cabin round-trip companion certificate each year after renewing their card and paying the $250 annual fee.

Finally, the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card tends to include anywhere from 50,000 to 80,000 bonus miles and 15,000 Medallion Qualification Miles after eligible spending. It earns three miles per dollar on Delta purchases and one mile per dollar on everything else. Its main perks are access to Delta Sky Clubs and Amex Centurion Lounges when flying Delta and a companion certificate each year after renewing and paying the $550 annual fee, good for a domestic round-trip ticket in Main Cabin, Comfort, or First Class, which can be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

Lap Infant Carry-On Policy

Stroller Check Policy

• Delta Air Lines does not count strollers or children’s car seats as part of your standard baggage. Therefore, Delta checks these items for free at the curbside, ticket counter, or gate.

Checked bags can’t weigh more than 50 pounds (23 kilograms) for economy and 70 pounds (32 kilograms) for Delta One, first, or business class. The linear dimensions must be 62 inches (158 centimeters) or less.

Many airlines refer to “maximum linear dimensions” when talking about baggage allowances. This is merely the number you get when you add the length, width (or height), and depth of a piece of luggage. For example, if you had a suitcase that was 26 inches long, 20 inches tall, and 16 inches deep, its linear dimensions would be 62 inches, or just about the maximum for many airlines.

Delta celebrated the occasion at Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) with a celebration for employees and local officials, surprising and delighting arriving and departing customers with local treats and commemorative gifts. 

Delta has consistently listened to customers and put their travel experience at the epicenter of its operation by effectively connecting them to destinations they want to travel to most. In 2019, Delta flights to Montréal were primarily operated by regional jets. Today, there has been a significant shift through operating all mainline aircraft, resulting in over 30% increase in seats per departure versus 2019.

Delta and United Are Cutting Flights to 10 Major Cities, Starting May 7

There's nothing quite like making plans to take a trip, whether it's to a new location or a return visit to one of your favorite destinations. It can be even more appealing when you find a good deal on airfare or an easy direct flight. But before you get ready to pack your bags and head to the airport , you might want to double-check what's available. That's because Delta and United are both cutting flights to 10 major cities in the coming months. Read on to see which places will be affected when the changes take effect.

Delta is scaling back its schedule with changes to domestic and international flights.

There are a few changes in store for Delta Air Lines' schedule in the coming months. The carrier will be dropping a handful of routes it currently flies from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), including to Oakland International Airport (OAK) as of May 7, travel news website The Points Guy reports. The airline also plans to drop its routes from LAX to Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) in Montana and Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) serving Vail, Colorado, initially planned for next winter season.

In a statement emailed to Best Life , a spokesperson for the airline said the Oakland changes were made "to fit the current demand environment," while the BZN and EGE changes were made "as the demand environment for winter travel comes into clearer focus."

Delta is also cutting back some of its international offerings . The airline confirmed that it would be dropping its service between New York John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) and Geneva Airport (GVA) in Switzerland as of Oct. 25, Simple Flying reports. And it's dropping its route from Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport (ATL) to Stuttgart Airport (STR) in Germany, which was scheduled to resume this summer.

There are still a few new routes and added departures coming soon.

Part of Delta's schedule shift will also result in some extra departures. Beginning June 7, the airline is adding daily service between OAK and ATL. It will also resume its regional route between Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) and Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) in Indiana after scuttling the leg in Oct. 2022, The Points Guy reports.

United is making a few flight cuts of its own in the coming months.

Delta isn't the only carrier making changes. United will also be paring back its schedule a bit on one of its recently announced routes .

According to data posted to flight data website Cirium, the airline is planning to fly between Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Tulum International Airport (TQO) in Mexico twice daily when it starts on March 31, Simple Flying reports. But beginning on May 23, it will cut the daily departures down to a single flight through Sept. 26.

United will soon be adding flights elsewhere to its schedule.

However, the carrier is also beefing up its schedule with added service. Along with IAH, United will also service TQO daily with flights from Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) as of March 31; LAX as of May 23; and Denver International Airport (DEN) starting Dec. 19, Simple Flying reports.

Delta reveals new uniform collection for flight attendants.

Employees will drop the controversial purple uniforms for more traditional garments designed by Gap

Delta Air Lines has given its employees a first glimpse of their new uniform collection. The modern design pays tribute to the airline’s brand image and history and has been in development for over a year and a half.

The airline collaborated with GPS Apparel by the famous American clothing brand GAP to create this collection, and feedback from Delta employees was taken into account during the design process.

Delta’s partnership with GAP allowed it to leverage the company’s over half a century of experience in the fashion industry. GAP collected feedback from more than 20,000 Delta employees via job shadowing, focus groups, surveys, and interviews to develop a comfortable, modern, durable, and functional set of uniforms.

Delta has approximately 70,000 uniformed staff, including flight attendants, airport customer service agents, ground equipment mechanics, and aircraft technicians.

Delta’s traditional color scheme features heavily throughout the new uniform prototype, with deep navy blue and rich burgundy outfits highlighted with bright red and white trimmings, marking a return to normality for Delta’s uniform range, which is currently characterized by a ‘Purple Plum’ color scheme that has divided opinion.

Designers have also incorporated Delta’s iconic widget—which features in the airline’s logo and on its aircraft tails—into the new uniforms. The widget first became synonymous with Delta in 1959 and is said to reflect the airline’s ethos, with the flat base representing the carrier’s ‘solid foundation’ and the pointed top portion a ‘reminder always to keep climbing.’

The new uniforms are made with OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100-certified fabrics and materials, with each piece designed to help employees function seamlessly, depending on their specific job.

Employees will choose different styles in each role, with each uniform prioritizing ease of movement, breathability, inclusivity, and durability.

While the prototype has been released, Delta passengers must wait a few years before seeing the airline’s staff decked out in the new gear. According to the airline, its employees will begin extensive wear testing for each garment starting this fall, which will give them more opportunities to provide feedback and have any potential issues rectified before the collection is officially rolled out.

“Delta has tens of thousands of uniformed employees, all with different needs and preferences,” said Ranjan Goswami, SVP of Customer Experience Design. “That means any evolution of the uniform program will take time and deliberation to get right. We are committed to using this time to listen, learn, and iterate as we work toward a new look – one that reflects and celebrates who we are as Delta.”

Delta hopes this new uniform range will be better received than its last attempt at a new rollout. In 2018, new uniforms designed by Zac Posen were rolled out, but accusations of toxic chemicals used in the manufacturing process that allegedly led to severe allergic reactions in several employees resulted in the airline facing multiple lawsuits.

Trenitalia is developing projects to reduce its own carbon footprint through action to boost energy efficiency.

Trenitalia , the lead company of the  FS Group ’s Passenger Division, is taking concrete steps every day to make transport increasingly sustainable and drive sustainable development in the mobility sector.

According to an SWG survey commissioned by Trenitalia, 8 Italians out of 10 think the train is the most sustainable means of transport. The finding is confirmed by the numbers: in 2023, 45 million people chose Frecciarossa trains instead of travelling by air or road. Weekly travel between Milan and Rome by train rather than by air generates an annual 9 tonne reduction in CO2 emissions, while choosing the train rather than the car brings a CO2 saving of 4 tonnes. In the business world, a Bloomberg analysis processed by McKinsey reveals that the 47,000 companies that have already chosen to travel with Trenitalia rather than by car prevented emissions of 100,000 tonnes of CO2 in 2023. In investment terms, besides allocating more than one billion euro for the purchase of 40 new Frecciarossa trains, Trenitalia is developing projects to reduce its own carbon footprint through action to boost energy efficiency. Today, it already has 10 maintenance facilities equipped with photovoltaic technology, but by 2032 the number will have risen to 24.

In an interview, Pietro Diamantini , Director of the Trenitalia High Speed business, talks about the projects the Group and its business units are planning for the next few years.

“As regards sustainability, we have invested in the purchase of 40 new ETR1000 trains, which, in engineering terms, certainly deliver a much higher return than their predecessors. This fact alone means that a journey consumes less for the same level of service, speed and comfort. Indeed, the level may actually be better. On overall sustainability, our attention is focused not only on train travel, but also on all our maintenance facilities, where we have installed solar panels so that services are powered directly by the sun. This way we save on energy for maintenance. Meanwhile, the recyclability of our trains is very high. So, when we have to retire trains, or parts of them, the job of disposal is less onerous. We have a broad vision of our presence in the sustainability project and in guaranteeing what I would call the green positioning of our company. I could give you more examples: all the automobiles in our high-speed maintenance facilities are electric. We no longer use combustion engine cars. So, we have a variety of initiatives that, put together, produce a very significant benefit.

Then there’s the question of digitalisation, advances in low-visibility services. Digitalisation of maintenance services, for example. Thanks to preventive maintenance, the number of trains with small defects in their fittings or on-board malfunctions will be fewer. So, the likelihood of problems arising during a journey will continue to decrease. With advanced digitalisation, including use of artificial intelligence, we are also able to guarantee improved on-board communication with passengers.”

What services are here? There are at least 12 restaurants within Concourse E, including Subway and Nathan’s Famous. When it comes to lounges, you’ll find the Delta Air Lines Delta Sky Club lounge here. Alternatively, enjoy a spot of retail therapy at one of the 10 stores here, including designer gems such as Swarovski. For a quiet space, the Interfaith Chapel is situated within the concourse too.

What services are here? In terms of restaurants, Concourse F hosts nine! A few highlights for foodies include The Pecan Bistro, Jekyll Island Seafood and Ecco.
