Kayaking in St. Thomas: Everything You Need to Know

Sharing is caring!

Kayaking in St. Thomas is one of the most unique and fun way to explore the island and marine life in the surrounding waters.

I’ve been kayaking with Virgin Island Ecotours and it was one of the most memorable experiences that I’ve had on the island and I’ve been here multiple times.

The best and easiest way to get out on a kayak is through a guided tour, but there are a few places where you can get rentals if you would prefer to get out and explore on your own.

Guided tours will enhance the experience as you get to learn more about the island and the plants and animals that inhabit it.

St. Thomas Kayaking Tours

Here are a few fantastic kayaking tours in St. Thomas that are run during the day. We’ll get into night kayaking tours in the next section.

Mangrove Lagoon Kayak, Hike, & Snorkel with Picnic Lunch

man and woman kayaking in St. Thomas in the ocean

⭐️  RATING:  5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  5 hours | ✅  Book it!

This was one of Tyler and I’s favorite activities on our honeymoon and it’s the perfect addition to an adventurous St. Thomas itinerary .

The tour lasts 5 hours and you’ll likely be exhausted by the end but it’s totally worth it. Though we did choose to go with single kayaks instead of tandem so that made it a little bit harder.

You start by paddling through mangroves and stingray alley – we didn’t see any here – and then you stop at a small beach where you get out and go see the blowhole by the cliffside.

Next, you paddle over to Cas Cay where you’ll take a hike and learn more about the local plants. Then it’s lunch time!

We had subs while tons of hermit crabs crawled around us then you get to go snorkeling right by the mangroves.

We saw tons of fish, lobster, sea urchins, a barracuda, sea worm (I think?), and a stingray partially buried on the ocean floor. It was amazing!

Our guide was super knowledgeable about the plants and animals that inhabit the island, so it was super fun to learn more about what we saw.

Finally, we started kayaking back and at this point I was pretty tired. It felt like we were going into the wind and this is where taking the tandem kayaks would have really come in handy.

VI Ecotour’s outpost is relatively close to Red Hook . One other thing to note is the guide takes photos throughout the tour and you have a chance to purchase them at the end.

This is one of the best St. Thomas boat tours so I highly recommend it!

🤩 Check prices & availability here. 🤩

Mangrove Lagoon Kayak & Snorkel

woman snorkeling and holding sea urchin

⭐️  RATING:  5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  2.5 hours | ✅  Book it!

This tour is also led by Virgin Island Ecotours, but it’s half the time and wouldn’t be nearly as strenuous. Perfect for those looking to get in a nice paddle, snorkel in a unique ecosystem, and experience one of the best things to do in St. Thomas .

You get to kayak through the mangroves where you may see spotted rays and stingrays in the water. We didn’t see any but apparently, that’s uncommon on their tours. Keep your eyes out for beautiful birds like brown pelicans as well.

It’s a shorter paddle than the other tour to where you’ll be snorkeling. They provide all the snorkeling equipment and then you’ll get to explore the underwater world!

You’ll see all kinds of fish and marine life that call the mangrove roots home. Taking a tour with Virgin Island Ecotours was the first time I had snorkeled near mangroves and I couldn’t believe the varied species that we saw.

Once you’re done, you kayak back to VI Ecotour’s outpost which isn’t too far at all. The water in the mangrove lagoon is so clear and you never know what you’ll see!

This is a great snorkeling tour in St. Thomas in addition to kayaking.

Kayak & Sea Turtle Snorkel

woman swimming with sea turtle on after kayaking in St. Thomas

⭐️  RATING:  5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  4 hours | ✅  Book it!

Along Lindbergh Bay, right beside the airport, you can have an adventure right from the beach. You’ll get a lesson in kayaking (if needed) as well as snorkeling.

You’ll get to kayak first to enjoy views of the surrounding bay and maybe watch some of the planes come in. The bay is tucked back into a nice cove off the harbor so waters are typically calm.

Next you get to explore the underwater world and go snorkeling from the beach. Sea turtles are known to frequent the bay so make sure to keep an eye out!

Everyone also loves the knowledgeable guides who will tell you more about what you see snorkeling as well as life on the island.

This tour also includes sandwiches, bottled water, and some cookies so you don’t have to worry about where to grab lunch!

⭐️  RATING:  5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  6 hours | ✅  Book it!

This tour is another one that takes you through the mangrove lagoon but at sunset, when the sky bursts into stunning colors as the sun creeps below the horizon.

You’ll paddle through the shallow waters between the mangroves towards Bird Island and around Bovoni Cay, just as the setting sun paints the sky with shades of orange, pink, and purple.

The tour will focus a good bit on bird watching and you may see yellow warblers, hummingbirds, herons, or pelicans as you make your way across the water. Don’t forget to look down too and see if you can spot any stingrays.

Expert nature guides will be with you to share more details about the biodiversity of the marine reserve. If you love wildlife and sunset views then this tour will not disappoint.

Night Kayaking in St. Thomas

Want to see the twinkling lights on the island from the water? Taking a night kayaking tour is such a neat way to explore the Caribbean waters.

St. Thomas Night Kayak Tour

⭐️  RATING:  4.5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  1.5 hours | ✅  Book it!

Pirates, beautiful night skies, and more marine life? Yes, please. VI Ecotours also offers a night kayaking tour through mangrove lagoon – though it isn’t for the faint of heart.

You’ll hear eerie stories of pirates who used to sail these Caribbean waters as you glide through the mangroves watching for tarpon and stingrays.

The glow of the moon and stars paints a surreal picture on the waters, giving a completely different vibe from the daytime tours.

There will be headlamps and lights on your kayak that you’ll use to check out the underwater world. As with all the other tours led by VI Ectotours, you’ll have a wonderful guide who can tell you all about what you’re seeing.

This is such a unique experience that people typically find it’s the most memorable part of their vacation in St. Thomas.

Illuminated Night Kayak

island resort lit up at night

⭐️  RATING:  4/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  1.25 hours | ✅  Book it!

The Illuminated Night Kayak tour is another unique experience that lets you marvel at the marine life of St. Thomas after dark.

As the sun sets, you’ll paddle out into the Caribbean waters in a kayak equipped with special LED lights. These lights illuminate the sea beneath you, where you can hopefully spot many aquatic creatures including turtles, fish, and stingrays.

Of course, you’re never guaranteed to see wildlife so just keep that in mind!

The views of Charlotte Amalie Harbour under the starlit sky are absolutely mesmerizing too. No matter where you look, you’re in for a treat.

This tour leaves out from the Marriott Frenchman’s Cove Resort which is one of the best resorts in St. Thomas .

⭐️  RATING:  5/5 Stars | ⏳  TOUR LENGTH:  1 hour | ✅  Book it!

The unique thing about this night kayaking tour is they are led in 100% clear kayaks that glow! You’ll also get glow sticks and glow-in-the-dark facepaint which adds to the fun – especially for younger kids.

Guides will be there to explain more about the nightlife in the sea and hopefully you’ll see some sea turtles, stingray, or tarpon on your adventure.

This is a relaxed and easy paddle so great no matter what your age is!

Kayak Rentals in St. Thomas

While a guided kayak tour is great and you get to learn so much about the island, sometimes you would prefer to just rent kayaks and explore on your own. While there aren’t a ton of options for this, I’ve listed a few below.

Resort Rentals

resort on the beach with palm trees and tropical plants

Double check with the resort that you’re staying at because some of them have watersport huts where they will rent out kayaks for hourly use in the beach area.

Sapphire Beach Resort, Emerald Beach Resort, and Secret Harbour Beach Resort are just a few of the places to stay in St. Thomas that have on-site rentals available at their watersports stand.

Sometimes these are included in the price of your stay but more often than not, you’ll have to pay an extra rental fee.

All the beaches in St. Thomas are open to the public so even if you aren’t staying at one of these resorts, you can visit an rent kayaks.

VI Ecotours

man and woman standing by a blowhole

Not only does VI Ecotours lead amazing guided kayaking tours, but they also have a “kayak on your own” option. If you don’t want to take a day trip with them, this may be a better fit.

You can visit their outpost where you’ll also find a bar & grill and little gift shop. Rentals are available for a half day or full day adventure.

They will give you a little introduction and more info on where they recommend you kayak then you’ll be able to set off and explore the mangrove lagoon on your own!

people lounging on the beach and standing in the water

If you’re visiting the famous Magens Bay and want to head out onto the water, then the Yak Shak offers rentals.

I’ll be totally honest – Magens Bay is not my favorite. While it is beautiful, it’s also crowded and you have to pay to access it. I think there are plenty of other beautiful beaches that are better like Coki Beach.

BUT this is also the most iconic beach on St. Thomas so totally understand why people want to go.

Tips for Kayaking in St. Thomas

Wear mineral-only sunscreen.

It’s the law in the US Virgin Islands to wear mineral-only sunscreen so you’ll want to make sure your sunscreen is either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide based.

This ensures that the sunscreen isn’t hurting the coral reefs surrounding the island or the other marine life.

Bring a Dry-Bag

While some tour operators provide a dry bag, we love to bring our own just so we know that’s covered. This way we can carry our sunscreen, keys, and phones with us.

Some places will also have lockers available for use but if that’s something you want, be sure to ask before you arrive for the tour.

It always helps to be extra prepared when going on an adventure.

Wear the Right Clothes

Speaking of being prepared, wearing the proper clothing will make you so much more comfortable while kayaking in St. Thomas.

Ideally, you’ll want quick-drying clothing and if you get sunburned easily then you’ll want a long sleeve shirt to cover your skin.

Shoes for kayaking are also important – I love wearing my Chacos because they are made to get in the water but they also have great tread and are sturdy in case you need to do any hiking or just walk around the beach.

Tips are not included in the price of the tours! These guides put in a lot of work and most of them are fantastic so come prepared with cash so you can give them a tip.

20% is standard for good service and that’s always what we calculate for tips.

Wrap Up: Best Kayaking in St. Thomas

Kayaking in St. Thomas offers a great blend of adventure, relaxation, and natural beauty. It’s a neat activity because you can either use it for exercise or just chill out and float with the current.

Whether you’re gliding through serene mangrove lagoons, gazing at vibrant marine life on a night tour, or exploring the coast at your own pace with a rental, you’re sure to have an unforgettable experience.

Remember to respect the local wildlife and environment, and embrace the chance to see this tropical paradise from a unique perspective.

  • TheVesters 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Really cool experience! Took my 10-year-old daughter on the nighttime LED kayak tour as a special surprise. This was a dream come true for her. Words cannot express how incredible of an experience this was for both of us. She loved getting to feed the fish and seeing the fish at night through the bottom of the kayak. Our guides were really nice and incredibly knowledgeable and we enjoyed having the entire experience narrated. They were also wonderful interacting with my daughter. I highly recommend this once-in-a-lifetime experience for anyone looking for something unique to do in Florida. Read more Written December 7, 2023
  • mymamafisher 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Awful experience This nighttime tour in St. Pete was not the experience we had hoped for. First, as soon as I got in the kayak, water rushed in and I was soaking wet from the waist down. The site said we would not get wet. Second, I did not see the phone number on my boat to join the conference call to listen to the guide so I missed out on everything they said the whole time. There were a few other people in their kayaks that couldn’t find their number as well. Before they started the tour, the guides should’ve made sure everyone was connected and ready to go. Third, the bottom of the kayaks are not see through. They are glass bottom but so dirty or old that you can’t see through them at all. So the only time you could see in the water was when/if you stopped paddling and shined the light in the water. Very disappointed in the whole trip and would not recommend. • Michael L 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Best times with my son this was an absolutely must next time I come down to Florida. My son and I took a tandem kayak and we had an absolute great time looking at all the different stuff that they showed us during the tour. FYI, always make sure that the tide is OK they do try to make the experience good. I know with the tide could cause issues but if you watch and ask, they will tell you where the best times to go out. My time was the best due to the fact there was calm water and they have no control over that and also the no control over the tide. The fish we saw was definitely catfish, my son I did get to see starfish conch shell with the animal still inside so we left it alone. We also seen a stingray. They will try to get as much sea life as they can for you to see. Absolutely impressed how much they make. They experience the greatest. Thanks again for what you guys do. My son and I appreciate everything you do. Read more Written July 30, 2023

  • Christina P 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles A Unique and Relaxing Tour A fun way to spend time on the water in St. Pete Beach, FL. Not strenuous, and plenty of help getting in and out of the kayak, while staying pretty dry. We did not expect to see wildlife other than fish, but we did see some unique crabs and star fish. Our tour guide was interesting. To hear his commentary, you do need to use your phone to tune in, or stay right next to him as you paddle. If you're expecting dolphins, and excitement, this is not the tour for you. If you are looking to make memories with your spouse/family, you will enjoy this tour. Read more Written February 22, 2023
  • Shatto1 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Not worth it Well for starters to improve the experience you can actually provide what is offered on your website. My wife and I were staying in Sarasota and decided to go kayaking. We easily could have done it right here where we're staying but instead saw that you offered fish feeding at the St Pete location. It's an hour drive from Sarasota to your location in St Pete yet we decided that was our best option for the night time kayaking and fish feeding adventure. Once we took off from the ramp everything looked promising until we noticed several kayak with lights not working, our kayak was next we ended up with one of our lights not functioning nor did they ever feed any fish or offer food to us as advertised to feed fish. I've kayaked all over and this was a very disappointing experience. On top of all that they're advertised point of launch, they had two locations advertised each was approximately 1 hour from our location where we were staying. They send you a text message a couple of hours before you're supposed to arrive letting you know where the lunch point will be. Ended up that the launchpoint was an additional 20 to 25 minutes further away than what they advertised. Read more Written January 5, 2023

Bioluminescent kayak tour of comb jelly kayaking in St Augustine Florida

Comb Jellies

Best in the cooler months, see mesmerizing bioluminescence guaranteed!* Kayak a sheltered and shallow lake hosting multiple species living near shore. Wild Comb Jellies enter through the dam to spawn in captivity. See the sheer number of stunning creatures for yourself year round.

bioluminescent dinoflagellets seen kayaking

dinoflagellate

Unlike other bioluminescent tours in Florida that only operate during the summer, Guana Lake offers a unique experience all year round. Dinoflagellates are typically only seen in the summer. Here they may also bloom in the winter due to unseasonably warm waters.

Spring & Summer

Fire Fly kayak tours in St Augustine

As an added bonus, see endangered fireflies in the forest around Guana Lake starting in late spring. Only 0.1% of all land-based life has bioluminescence. 75% ocean life is bioluminescent. Here, you may see both.

Life Changing

Q: What do fire, electricity, and bioluminescence have in common?

A: They are discoveries that altered the trajectory of civilization.

Book a tour with our experienced kayak guides to learn exactly what we mean by that.

*GeoTrippin Guides discovered this phenomenon was a permanent feature of Guana Lake on September 9, 2020. Since then, we have seen bioluminescence nearly every night. There are several things that influence the intensity you will see. Wind, rain, ambient light, temperatures, and salinity all have an effect on the numbers, brightness, and health of these unparalleled creatures. We guarantee you will see bioluminescence. In the event nature throws a curve ball, you may book a redo at no extra charge.

Come enjoy something totally ‘other worldly’ right here in our back yard. Glowing sea creatures abound in North Florida’s Bioluminescent Guana Lake. Observe Comb Jellies that illuminate as you catch them in nets, inspect in specimen collection dishes, and swirl them around in the water.  Book online for the best deals.

Why St Augustine is The Best Place For This Type Of Tour.

Geotrippin introduced bioluminescent kayak tours to st augustine.

We can only bring a few lucky people out each night for an opportunity to see the amazing bioluminescence recently discovered year round in the waters around St Augustine. Our t ours will be led by experienced guides who will help you see the beautiful creatures that light up the water at night.

But, we may also outsource your experience to other operators in order to expand availability. Outfitters and guides interested in offering this experience may call our office at (904) 701-3272

What is Bioluminescence?

As great as our bio tours are, it is still a natural phenomena and intensity fluctuates from day to day. Bioluminescence occurs when living organisms produce and emit light. This can happen through a chemical reaction in the organism, or by bacteria that live on the surface of the organism. Many marine creatures are bioluminescent, including fish, jellyfish, and squid. Bioluminescence is often used as a way for these animals to attract mates, or to startle predators. Some land animals are also bioluminescent, like fireflies.

On a  kayak tour in St. Augustine, Florida , you can experience this amazing natural phenomenon up close. The only bioluminescent kayak tour operating in St Augustine takes place at night, when the water is filled with glowing plankton. As you paddle through the water, your kayak will leave a trail of swirling light around your paddle. Nets and collection cups are provided to catch and observe the bioluminescent Comb Jellies up close. It’s an unforgettable experience that everyone should try at least once!

Outstanding Orlando Boat Tours (2024)

Orlando boat tours are a fantastic activity in Central Florida, no matter the type of boating adventure you choose.

Some of the suggestions below are full-day tours, and others take mere hours. But all are a great way to spend your time in order to enjoy the Sunshine State’s beautiful scenery. And that could mean a wild ride in the Everglades or sailing sunset cruises on one of the Orlando area's attractive lakes.

We are sharing the best Orlando boat tours – private and group options – including scenic pontoon boat tours, airboat rides, kayaking, canoeing, sunset sails, and even boat rentals at Walt Disney World.

Disclosure: This post has affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you click the link and proceed with a purchase at no cost to you. We recommend experiences, hotels, products, and services we use and support. As Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Book a sunset sailing tour in Orlando . It's our favorite type of boat tour, and Florida sunsets often show off for an audience!
  • Pin the image in this box or flip this post to Flipboard to save it for later.
  • See what to bring for Orlando boat tours so you are prepared to deal with the Florida bugs!

Orlando Airboat Rides

One of the things Florida is most known for is its famous airboat tours. Sign up for this fun adventure whether you’re in Fort Lauderdale or Miami, within Everglades National Park, or Orlando on Shingle Creek, on the headwaters of the Florida Everglades.

You won’t soon forget an exciting airboat ride when you visit the Orlando area, with a chance to see Bald Eagles and other endemic tropical birds, alligators, and crocodiles (maybe even a baby alligator).

Airboat rides are particularly popular amongst nature lovers. These special boats allow you to glide on the unique marshes and swampland of the Central Florida area. We thoroughly enjoyed our Florida airboat experience.

Sign up for a 90-minute fun and educational Orlando airboat tour to encounter the real Florida with experienced captains. Alternatively, secure your spot for a 1-hour sunset airboat tour and hope for one of Florida’s famous colorful sunsets.

Most airboat tours take place rain or shine. Just in case, we recommend traveling to Florida with a poncho or thin raincoat of some sort. Be sure to check in for your tour at least 30 minutes before the experience.

Orlando Boat Tour on an Airboat with Transportation

This tour includes pick up and drop off in Central Florida (including designated Disney World and Universal hotels), a BBQ lunch, a printed photo, and admission to their animal rescue Wildlife Park, where you can see birds, big cats, and reptiles.

The entire experience – from transportation to the boat ride – lasts around 7 hours, including the drive to and from the Everglades area. The Florida Everglades are approximately 45 minutes to an hour's drive each way from Orlando. Choose from a 30-minute or 60-minute airboat ride when you book your experience .

Orlando Sailing Tours

How about enjoying Orlando’s lakes with wind power? Sailing tours are the perfect way to glide on the water. And a sunset sail is incredibly romantic, to boot!

Private Morning Sail

Set sail on a 2-hour private sailing tour, starting at 10:00 am. Adventure awaits on Lake Fairview for up to four guests.

This area is just north of College Park near downtown Orlando and 15 minutes from Orlando’s Lieu Gardens. Don’t forget to bring towels if you want, though water is provided (and lakes are calm anyway, so you shouldn’t really get wet!).

Advanced reservations are required.

Private Lake Sunset Sail

Sail on Lake Fairview, approximately 10 minutes from downtown Orlando, 30-35 minutes from the Disney theme parks (including the Disney Springs area), and 25 minutes from Universal.

This 2-hour private Orlando boat tour can fit up to four people, and they allow you to bring your own snacks and beverages onboard. We recommend bringing a bottle of wine or champagne!

We recommend bringing along a wine tumbler set for your sailboat adventure!

Kayaking Tours

Connect with nature from the comfort of a kayak and get in some exercise too. Orlando boat tour options for kayaking are plentiful.

Kayak with Manatees

Head 45 minutes north of Orlando for your chance to kayak with manatees! These cute and friendly mammals are famous in the Sunshine State, where they come to enjoy the warm water for the winter.

Whether you’re a novice kayaking trying it for the first time, or an experienced pro, this tour is for you if you want to see a plethora of wildlife.

Check out this popular tour with 5-star reviews

Glass Bottom Boat Kayak Tours

If you want to see the fish below the water’s surface without snorkeling, sign up for a glass-bottom kayak tour. See through the bottom of the boat on this Orlando boat tour and have the chance to view the colorful fish and marine plant life beneath you.

Try a Rock Springs guided kayak eco-tour as you glide on the crystal-clear water for two hours. You’ll learn about the local ecosystem, stop for photos, and have the opportunity to swim in the springs. Opt to jump into the water from a rope swing for a thrill during this adventure.

You can also opt for a sunset tour in a glass-bottom kayak . Paddle through the Winter Park Chain of Lakes and canals in a peaceful setting. Your knowledgeable guide will point out interesting nature homes along the way and share some history of the area. You’ll also be able to stop for photos where you like!

This tour is likely to sell out: Reserve Now

Winter Park Evening Clear Kayak Glow in the Dark Tour

If you want to add a fun element to your kayaking adventure, sign up for a Winter Park kayak tour at night with a glow-in-the-dark kayak. The boats are illuminated with nighttime lighting!

They will surely be a good photo opp and fun outing as the lights make the water beneath you glow.

Another great option is this Neon Night Glow Paddleboard or Clear Kayak experience on Lake Ivanhoe.

This unique boat tour allows you to see Orlando’s skyline at night as you paddle along with the help of your guides, the moonlight, and the colorful lights beneath your kayak or paddleboard.

Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour

One of our favorite Orlando boat tours is in Winter Park. It was established in the 1930s, decades before Walt Disney World opened in Lake Buena Vista.

This pontoon boat tour starts near the well-known Park Avenue area. Set out on your scenic cruise from Lake Osceola to the Winter Park Chain of Lakes as your guide takes you through the manmade canals.

Sail past stunning homes in Winter Park, where you will have breathtaking views of the opulent private homes in the area (which is one of the reasons we enjoy the boat tour).

You will have a chance to see wonderful some of Florida’s beautiful birds, like Blue Herons and large cranes, as you travel on several lakes.

Each boat holds a maximum of 18 passengers. Be sure to bring cash or a check to buy your tickets because credit cards are not accepted. We advise purchasing tickets in the morning on weekends, even if you plan on going later in the day. It’s a very popular tour, and tickets often sell out quickly.

Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour is closed on Christmas Day. Otherwise, tours leave daily on the hour, starting at 10:00 am. The last tour is at 4:00 pm.

Day Trip Boat Tours from Orlando

While the Orlando boat tours listed above are within 30 minutes, on average, from Orlando, it’s worth mentioning there are more boat tour options nearby within a 2-hour drive. Here are some additional Central Florida boat tour options.

Mount Dora Lake Tours

One of our favorite destinations from Central Florida is 45 minutes north: the quaint town of Mount Dora . There’s so much to see and do there in the afternoon or morning; a boat tour is the best way to extend your trip to a whole day.

Take a 2-hour pontoon boat tour with a departure point at the historic hotel, the Lakeside Inn. Enjoy your leisurely cruise around Lake Dora and The Harris Chain of Lakes, including the famed Dora Canal.

The all-weather 25’ boats can cruise rain or shine thanks to their retractable clear covers for the sides of the boat. Choose from one of two daytime tours, or their third option to cruise during sunset.

Clearwater Beach with Dolphin Encounter Cruise

This 12-hour full-day tour begins with pick-up at 7:30 am. You’ll head west of Orlando to the popular Florida destination (Clearwater Beach), where you will take a cruise to encounter bottlenose dolphins in their natural habitat.

While this means that you aren’t guaranteed to spot dolphins, your tour guide will do his or her very best to find them. You may see these beautiful mammals up close by the boat or further in the distance if they appear in the ocean. Part of the fun is the anticipation.

A one-hour dolphin tour boat ride is sandwiched between hours of free time on a Gulf Coast beach. For only $10 more, you can purchase a wristband for the boat ride that allows you to have unlimited beer, wine, and vodka punch.

Pickup and drop off are included at one of three major locations of your choice (Disney areas included). This means that all you have to do is sign up for the tour and be at that location for pick-up time.

Choose from the three pick-up locations listed below:

  • Walt Disney World area, on Epcot Resorts Blvd. (northern area of the parks)
  • Walt Disney World area, at Maingate Lakeside Resort in Kissimmee (area of the Disney World theme parks that is further south)
  • International Drive (close to Universal) at Senor Frogs

Clear Canoe Boat Tour Near Orlando at Silver Springs

This clear canoe boat tour is approximately halfway between Orlando and Gainesville at Silver Springs. The drive is approximately an hour and 45 minutes from downtown Orlando.

You’ll do a self-guided tour after the kayak company representative meets you and gives you a laminated map and some brief instructions. Paddle near Cypress Trees and see turtles, ducks, birds, and a chance to see manatees during the winter season, when they swim to Florida’s warm waters.

Dan and I often like to explore an area freely, on our own. Maybe you’re the same way! If so, this is a great tour for you in the Orlando area, as long as you can rent a car to get to the meeting point or take a taxi/Uber or Lyft there.

Orlando Boat Tours at Walt Disney World

Did you know that you can rent motorized boats at Disney World? It’s one of the best things to do at Walt Disney World, besides the parks.

Rent a Sun Tracker® Pontoon boat by the half-hour for up to 10 people. You can also opt to kayak or canoe from Fort Wilderness by the hour.

One of the most singular boat tours in Orlando, or perhaps anywhere, is an Amphicar boat tour. Be a passenger and the envy of all onlookers in a cool convertible car that drives right into the water. This experience is available at Disney Springs restaurant, The Boathouse.

Lastly, you can book a specialty cruise to see the fireworks. You don’t even have to be a hotel guest to do so! Snacks and soft drinks are included in a memorable cruise on a 25’ boat.

You can also request for a festive banner and/or balloons to be set up on the boat, which is included in the cost (request at the time of booking). It’s a great thing to do for you and your partner or up to 10 guests total, whether a proposal, anniversary treat, or family reunion.

What to Bring for Orlando Boat Tours

Florida's heat can be brutal, depending on the time of year. No matter the month, you definitely need to protect your skin from the sun. The sun in FL is strong, year-round.

Be sure to pack the following if you’ll be on the water in sunny Florida:

  • Refillable water bottle (the ice will stay intact for hours in the MiiR bottle, our favorite insulated wide-mouth bottle)
  • Reef-safe sunscreen
  • SPF lip balm
  • Eco-friendly bathing suit
  • Rash guard

Conclusion for Best Orlando Boat Tours

Whether you want to captain a boat yourself, row your way through Florida’s waters in a kayak, see gators on an educational airboat ride, or go on a romantic sailboat cruise around one of Central Florida’s lakes, an Orlando boat is a wonderful Florida activity.

It will connect you with nature, get you out in fresh air, and allow your body to absorb vitamin D in the Florida sunshine. Sign up for an Orlando boat tour and explore this southern state in a unique and adventurous way.
