Taylor Swift Eras Tour Reputation Era via Taylor Swift Productions and Silent House Productions

The Eras Tour Was Taylor Swift’s Biggest Outing Yet, But It Was Far From Her First

Image of Lauren Coates

City by city, song by song, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has quickly become of the highest-grossing (and buzziest) tours in music history. Spanning the entire length of Swift’s discography, Taylor honors each of her previous musical/aesthetic “eras” with a dedicated section on her setlist, allowing fans to relive the feeling of each album, if only for a moment.

But while the Eras Tour brings each album together on one mega-tour, it’s hardly the first time Taylor has been around, or even the first time she’s embarked on a stadium tour. From humble beginnings to sold-out shows across the globe, here’s a breakdown of all of Taylor Swift’s tours, in chronological order.

Fearless Tour

As most Swifties know, Taylor’s first album was a self-titled country pop record with singles like “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “Our Song,” and “Tim McGraw.” Taylor did tour during the release of Taylor Swift, but not as a headliner—she supported her first album by performing as an opening act for larger artists at the time like Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Faith Hill, and Keith Urban.

But while Taylor Swift was her first album, it wasn’t her first tour—that honor belongs to the Fearless Tour, which kicked off in April 2009 and ran through July 2010. The tour played a total of 105 shows (mostly across North America) including limited stops in Asia, Europe, and Australia. Kellie Pickler joined Taylor as an opening act, with artists like then-boyfriend John Mayer, Katy Perry, and Faith Hill appearing at certain performances as surprise guests. Though the tour didn’t get a concert film, Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless was released as a 3-episode docuseries, documenting the behind-the-scenes of the tour.

Speak Now World Tour

Taylor’s first proper world tour, the Speak Now World Tour , began in February 2011 and featured a total of 111 performances, including seven in Asia and 12 in Europe. In addition to being her first world tour, Speak Now was also Taylor’s first stadium tour and featured more extensive set pieces, choreography, and costuming than the Fearless tour. Speak Now ‘s openers included NeedToBreathe, Hunter Hayes, and Hot Chelle Rae, and it was the first Taylor tour attended by yours truly. A concert film, Taylor Swift: Speak Now World Tour Live , was recorded to accompany the tour.

The Red Tour

Two years later, Taylor was back on the road with the Red Tour, which kicked off in March of 2013 and ran through June of 2014, with a total of 86 performances across the globe. In addition to continuing to bump up the tour’s production value through costuming, choreography, and set design, the Red tour also featured the introduction of surprise songs, which changed night-to-night. Certain Red tour dates also featured Taylor bringing out a surprise guest and singing one of their songs as a duet. Highlights of Red tour guests included Taylor singing “Jenny From the Block” with Jennifer Lopez, “You’re So Vain” with Carly Simon, and “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark” with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump.

Unlike previous installments, there was no concert film version of the Red tour.

The 1989 World Tour

Following Red was the 1989 World Tour, beginning in May 2015 and ending December of the same year for a total of 85 shows. The 1989 World Tour featured the return of the Surprise Songs mechanic, and hosted Vance Joy, Shawn Mendes, Rae Morris, and Haim as opening acts. Haim would also go on to return as an opening act for the Eras Tour, as well as guest star in the Bejeweled music video and feature on an evermore track.

One of the tour stops in Sydney was recorded for a concert film version of the tour called The 1989 World Tour Live —prior to the Eras Tour, that Sydney performance held the record for Swift’s most-attended performance, with 75,980 Swifties in attendance.

Reputation Stadium Tour

Though Taylor had previously performed at plenty of stadiums on tour, the Reputation Stadium Tour was Swift’s first all-stadium tour, playing May through November of 2018 for a total of 53 shows—her shortest tour to date. Openers for reputation included Camila Cabello, Charli XCX, and Broods, some of whom would join Taylor during the set for “Shake it Off.” As with her previous tours, reputation featured surprise songs at each show and a number of surprise guests at certain performances, this time including Troye Sivan, Selena Gomez, and Niall Horan.

A performance in Arlington was recorded for a concert film called Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour , which was released by (but recently taken off of) Netflix. Fans speculate that reputation leaving Netflix could be related to the fact that Taylor has yet to re-record her masters for reputation .

A sixth tour, Lover Fest, was originally scheduled for April through August of 2020, but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tour would’ve featured Swift’s then-first performance in Brazil, and would also have been the first time Swift’s tour dates included stops at previously organized festivals. Because there was no tour, there’s no Lover concert film, but Swift did release City of Lover , a recording of a one-off concert in Paris, as a tv special in May of 2020.

The Eras Tour

Last but certainly not least is, of course, The Eras Tour , which is currently ongoing and kicked off in March of 2023. We’ve previously done a full breakdown of the Eras setlist, which features glimpses into all of Swift’s previous albums, but focuses most heavily on those she was unable to tour because of COVID— Lover, folklore, evermore, and Midnights. A concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , was released in theaters and is currently available to rent on streaming.

Pre-tour activity [ ]

Prior to the launch of the tour, Swift played three shows in the US, including a sold-out performance in front of nearly 71,000 fans at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in March 2009. Swift also played several dates in the UK and Australia, including two shows at the Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. [1]

Also, in the midst of her own tour, Swift began opening shows in select cities for Keith Urban on his Escape Together World Tour 2009.

About the tour [ ]

The tour was announced on January 29, 2009, via her official website. [2] The initial press release announced that Swift would visit 54 cities in 39 states and provinces in the United States and Canada. Joining her on the tour would be a new country music group, Gloriana, as well as former American Idol contestant, Kellie Pickler .

The tour kicked off in Evansville, Indiana, on April 23, 2009, at Roberts Stadium. In honor of the kickoff of the sold-out tour, Swift was presented the key to the city of Evansville and the City Council President declared Wednesday, April 23, 2009, Taylor Swift Day. [3]

The tour features a theatrical presentation of graphics, sets and visual elements all designed by Swift herself. The show runs more than 90 minutes and showcases Swift playing five different guitars as well as the piano. The show features multiple costume changes and a fairy-tale castle illuminated by more than a million lumens of light.

In late June, a new tour date was announced for November 23 at the Wembley Arena in London. However it has become apparent that neither Kellie Pickler nor Gloriana will be joining her on the UK part of the tour. Taylor Swift announced another date in the UK at the Manchester Evening News Arena on November 24. [4] This was the final and second tour date in the UK. The shows at Wembley and Manchester will be the only two concerts for the Fearless Tour in Europe. It was announced later that singer Justin Bieber would join Swift on the two UK dates [5] While performing at Wembley Arena, Bieber broke his foot while he performed the opening lines of "One Time", but still finished the song. Despite his injury, Bieber confirmed that he would still perform in Manchester with Swift the following day, although the Wembley concert was cut short as he could not perform the encore. Bieber then went on to perform at the Manchester performance with an encore, he sang 'With You' a cover of the original version from Chris Brown. Following a 10 minute applause after she had sung Tim McGraw, Swift told the Manchester audience 'Everytime I hear the word Manchester, I won't be able to stop smiling... I love you!'. [6] According to a German magazine, Swift was supposed to play three shows in Germany. However, tickets for those concerts never went on sale.

On September 30, it was announced that Swift would return to Australia in February 2010 to play another series of concerts, but now in arenas. [7] On October 8, it was announced that the tour would be extended through June 2, 2010, to include 37 additional shows in North America. [8] It has been confirmed that Justin Bieber will be performing at the Gillette Stadium on June 5, 2010, with Swift. [9]

Tour activity [ ]

In a recent interview with US teen magazine Twist , Taylor stated that she was writing songs for her next album while touring, saying that she was 'addicted to recording'. While touring, she released the single ' American Girl ', which was recorded on Verizon's Mobile Recording Studio Bus. It is a cover of the original song by Tom Petty. It is now available via Rhapsody, iTunes Music Store or the Verizon Wireless Download Store.

Tour dates [ ], record sellouts [ ].

Tickets for the first shows for the Fearless Tour went on sale in early February 2009 and sold-out almost instantly. On February 6, 2009, tickets went on sale for the May 22 date at Los Angeles Staples Center and sold out in two minutes. [11] Tickets for several dates and venues, including Madison Square Garden, went on sale the following week and sold out in a record of one minute. Taylor Swift's Eras Tour: All the U.S. and international dates and opening acts

taylor swift first tour date

Taylor Swift opened the Eras Tour at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona — which rebranded itself as "Swift Cit y" for the March 17 and 18 concerts — with a triumphant return to live performance as the first act in the history of that venue to sell out two nights on the same tour.

By that point, she'd already broken the all-time record for most concert tickets sold by an artist in a single day and passed Madonna's Sticky & Sweet Tour as the highest-grossing tour in history by a female artist.

And Swift rose to the occasion , leading her band through a marathon 44-song set that lasted more than three hours while delivering on her promise of "a journey through all of my musical eras."

So what does she do for an encore? Here's where the Eras Tour is headed next, adding two surprise songs to the set at each show. Here's a look at what she's played so far .

Since making her debut with “Mean It” in October 2019, Gracie Abrams has emerged as one of the most compelling songwriters of her generation.  She is a consummate songwriter who names iconic figures like Joni Mitchell and Taylor Swift as her most formative influences.

With the arrival of her debut project  minor  in summer 2020, she received glowing reviews from the likes of Pigeons & Planes, i-D, Vogue and NME. Executive-produced by Blake Slatkin — and also made with leading producers like Joel Little and benny blanco-  minor  features her beloved singles, “21,” and “I miss you, I’m sorry”.

In November 2021, Abrams returned with  This Is What It Feels Like , a 12-track project exploring such complex emotional experiences as self-betrayal, insecurity, and failed attempts at connection.  Abrams took on a greater role in the production process here, working with The National’s Aaron Dessner, Joel Little and Blake Slatkin to dream up each track.

Abrams kicked off 2022 with a headline tour of North America followed by a support slot on Olivia Rodrigo’s tour.  She reconnected with Dessner to release two songs this year – “Block me out” and “Difficult” – and continues to work on her debut album.

About beabadoobee

Racking up more than 4.6 billion global streams and major critical acclaim, beabadoobee has been on a skyrocketing trajectory over the past few years since the release of her first acoustic songs, crafted in her childhood bedroom. Bea’s critically acclaimed debut album Fake It Flowers established her as a one of music’s most buzzed about talents, earned her a late-night TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and drew mainstream and tastemaker praise on both sides of the pond.

Born in the Philippines and raised in London, beabadoobee signed with Dirty Hit Records following the success of her viral single “Coffee” which was sampled later in 2020’s sixth most streamed song in the world that year on “death bed (coffee for your head)”

With her flawless output of confessional bedroom pop songs and a dedicated Gen-Z fanbase, beabadoobee’s sophomore album Beatopia opened up a deeply personal world. The album received global praise and hit #4 on the UK Official Album Chart. Marking her biggest year yet with performances at Coachella, Glastonbury, Gov Ball, Reading & Leeds.

At just 22 years old, Bea has been championed by and has received major critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NPR, Vogue, Wall Street Journal, Teen Vogue, LA Times, The FADER, i-D, The Face, Dazed, Stereogum, The Guardian, New York Times and more.

About Phoebe Bridgers

Phoebe Bridgers released her debut album in 2017 as a relatively unknown singer-songwriter. In the five years since, she’s become an internationally lauded musician with four acclaimed bodies of work to her name: her solo debut,  Stranger In The Alps , the  boygenius  EP with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus in 2018,   Better Oblivion Community Center , a surprise collaboration with Conor Oberst in 2019, and her multi-Grammy nominated sophomore album  Punisher  in 2020.

Punisher ’s release cemented her position as one of the most irresistibly clever and tenderly prolific songwriters of our era. The album gave Bridgers her first  Billboard #1  on the Emerging Artist Chart as well as Top Twenty Album Chart placings in the UK, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland and Belgium.  Amidst late night TV performances –  including a smashing debut on  Saturday Night Live   –  sold out tours, festival appearances and work for charity, Bridgers has become a highly sought-after collaborator featured on recent releases from The 1975, Marcus Mumford, Kid Cudi, The Killers, Paul McCartney, Bright Eyes and Taylor Swift.  She was named Billboard’s Trailblazer Of The Year at the 2022 Women In Music Awards.

About GAYLE

GAYLE’s debut EP,  a study of the human experience volume one , captures the 18 year old’s most specific and vividly real emotions: the tension between longing for connection and fearing vulnerability, the risk and thrill of refusing to compromise your own needs. Released in early 2022, the project features her electrifying chart topping smash single “ abcdefu ”: a double-Platinum anthem that propelled the Nashville-based artist to over 2 billion streams globally and such milestones as being named as a Billboard Music Awards finalist, and earn such honors as American Music Award and People’s Choice Award nominations for Best New Artist, and 2 MTV VMA nominations. In the midst of navigating that whirlwind success, GAYLE headed back into the studio to create  a study of the human experience volume two —a powerful new EP that doubles down on its predecessor’s unapologetic truth-telling, with  American Songwriter  writing “GAYLE’s uncensored honesty as a lyrical storyteller is what makes her music so captivating.” Highlighted by the playfully chaotic “ fmk (with blackbear) ” and the blissful “ snow angels ,”  a study of the human experience volume two  is out now. Heralded as a magnetic live performer, GAYLE has spent the past year on a headline tour, playing alongside Tate McRae, AJR, My Chemical Romance, and at festival dates around the world.

About girl in red

The alternative pop artist from Oslo, born Marie Ulven – is continuing her path to world domination, kicking off 2022 with a  Best New Alternative Artist nomination for the iHeart Radio Music Awards.

It’s a well-deserved nod, considering she was the most played female artist on Alt Radio with “Serotonin”. The song reached #2 and spent 30 weeks on the Alt chart, 21 of those weeks in the Top 10. “Serotonin” streams currently surpass 84M for the track, with over 1.85 billion career streams to date.

girl in red spent much of 2022 on her first headline tour since the release of her debut album; she had a robust run across North America with major festival highlights including Coachella and Lollapalooza. She also had monster sets at Oya, Glastonbury and a sold out headline show at NYC’s famed Pier 17. A passionate live performer she will continue to tour, up next is a UK & EU headline run in 2023, including a sold out show at O2 Academy Brixton.

Ulven released her critically acclaimed debut album  if i could make it go quiet  in 2021, to world-wide critical acclaim from fans and critics alike. Celebrity supporters included Taylor Swift and Camilla Cabello and more. Press response was astoundingly positive, with many outlets proclaiming it  “Best of 2021”  including but not limited to Rolling Stone, Billboard, Variety, NPR, Stereogum, NYLON  and more.

In 2021, she also performed on  The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon  and  Late Night With Seth Meyers , as well as TV performances worldwide including but not limited to  Skavlan ,  Late Night Berlin  and  MTV’s EMA s.

HAIM are sisters Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim, hailing from Los Angeles, CA. The band made history as the first all-female rock group to be nominated for GRAMMY® Album of The Year with their third album, ‘Women In Music Pt. III.’ The album received two GRAMMY® nominations, the band’s single “The Steps” was nominated for ‘Best Rock Performance.’  The band again made history winning a Brit Award for Best International Group, the first time an all-female act has won this award since Destiny’s Child in 2002.  ‘Women In Music Pt. III’ was released in June and was met with an overwhelming amount of critical acclaim, rave reviews and included on a variety of year-end Top 10 lists. Named a “Critic’s Pick” by  The New York Times  and “Best New Music” by  Pitchfork , they heralded, “the third album from the trio is far and away their best. Intimate, multidimensional, and wide-ranging, the songwriting shines with personality and a great curiosity for melody and style.” ‘Women In Music Pt. III’ debuted at #1 on the Album Sales Chart, Alternative Chart and Rock Chart following release week in the US. The band also earned the #1 album in the UK, marking their second time at the top of the UK albums chart. Haim released their debut album “Days Are Gone” in 2013 which earned them a GRAMMY® nomination for Best New Artist. Renowned for their engaging high-energy live performances, HAIM have toured the world playing headline shows and festival stages including Glastonbury, Coachella, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and more.  On their most recent headlining tour in support of Women In Music Part III, HAIM sold out shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden as well as Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and 02 Arena in London

MUNA is magic. After releasing their now viral, life affirming, queer anthem “Silk Chiffon,” featuring the band’s new label head Phoebe Bridgers, the band have taken 2022 by storm. MUNA, the band’s self-titled third album, is a feat of an album — the forceful, deliberate, dimensional output of a band who has nothing to prove to anyone except themselves.

Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson, and Josette Maskin, began making music together in college and now have become something more like family.

“What ultimately keeps us together,” Maskin said, “is knowing that someone’s going to hear each one of these songs and use it to make a change they need in their life.” And that’s what MUNA does: it carves out a space in the middle of whatever existential muck you’re doing the everyday dog-paddle through and transports you, suddenly — you who’ve come to music looking for an answer you can’t find anywhere else — into a room where everything is possible, where the disco ball’s never stopped throwing sparkles on the walls, where you can sweat and cry and lie down on the floor and make out with whoever, where vulnerability in the presence of those who love you can make you feel momentarily bulletproof and self-consciousness only sharpens the swell of joy.

About OWENN

This Summer, OWENN, the talented multi-hyphenate, brought his enigmatic spirit and smokey sense of soul to the forefront as he formally introduced himself on his debut tour, highlighted by a Main Stage East show at Lollapalooza Paris; OWENN carried the momentum from Europe having just recently opened for Lil Nas X on the two sold out New York, Radio City Music Hall shows – Long Live Montero Tour.

OWENN has attracted attention contributing dance moves on stages worldwide with A-list artists such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Megan Thee Stallion, Normani and others. Including, most recently working with Lil Nas X to choreograph his tv performances for MTV VMAs and live show appearances on the iHeart Jingle Ball Tour.  OWENN became a staple of Taylor Swift’s show on her  1989 Tour  and  Reputation Tour .  In 2019, he starred alongside Taylor in her video for “ Lover ,” as well as Normani in her video for “ Motivation ”.

Inspired by Prince, Marvin Gaye, Usher, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, and the Smiths, among others, OWENN’s emotional and spiritual approach to dance translated to writing and recording. OWENN’s debut EP will be released in fall of 2023.

About Paramore

When Paramore revealed they were recording together in January 2022 the response from music fans around the world was immediate and celebratory. In the time since the Grammy-winning, RIAA-certified multi-Platinum band released their last album,  After Laughter  – and Hayley Williams unveiled two lauded solo albums – Paramore have become more popular than ever.  Over the last few years Paramore’s influence and popularity has snowballed, as the age of streaming organically propelled them into a position as one of the world’s biggest, most culturally compelling rock bands. For the band, who formed as teenagers in Tennessee, their 20-year trajectory has seen them grow from youthful outsiders to bone-fide pop culture icons, permeating the musical landscape by inspiring a new generation of musical talent. Their forthcoming sixth album  This Is Why , set for release on Atlantic Records in February 2023, is preceded by the dynamic title track, most immediate worldwide radio hit of the band’s career to date.

Globally renowned for their arena-filling and festival-headlining performance prowess, the opportunity to see Paramore play their first theater shows in years created headline news. Their Fall 2022 and UK arena shows for Spring 2023 sold out in minutes. The band are donating a portion of their ticket sales to organizations working in areas of essential community support, including ARC Southeast, Kansas Abortion Funds, Shelter Safe Canada, Support & Feed and REVERB.

Taylor Swift is taking “Midnights” on the road.

Just a day after making Billboard history , the “Lavender Haze” singer announced Tuesday on “ Good Morning America ” that she will embark on her sixth concert tour.

“Good morning, America, it’s Taylor,” she said. “I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time and I’ve been planning for ages, and I finally get to tell you I’m going back on tour. The tour is called the ‘Eras’ tour, and it’s a journey through all of my musical eras of my career.”

Swift will launch the tour in U.S. stadiums on March 18, 2023, in Glendale, Ariz. — the same place she kicked off her 2018 Reputation tour. So far, 27 dates have been announced across the country that will take the tour into August when she closes out the first leg with two shows at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood on Aug. 4 and 5.

She will release international dates later.

The Grammy winner has also tapped a number of “brilliant opening acts” for the tour, including Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, Muna, Haim, Gayle, Gracie Abrams, and Owenn.

“And really, I’m just so excited that I get to look you guys in the eye and say thank you for everything,” she added.

I’m enchanted to announce my next tour: Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour, a journey through the musical eras of my career (past & present!) The first leg of the tour will be in stadiums across the US, with international dates to be announced as soon as we can! https://t.co/KFuqvrhSGo pic.twitter.com/eVyTcuW8sK — Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) November 1, 2022

Prospective concertgoers will have to sign up for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program to register for presale tickets now through Nov. 9. Once they receive a code, they will be able to purchase tickets on Nov. 15. Those tickets will start at $49 and go up to $449. VIP packages start at $199 and go up to $899.

Verified fans from Swift’s Lover Fest tour will also receive preferred access to participate in the TaylorSwiftTix Presale once registered with the same Ticketmaster account as the previous purchase.

All other public ticket sales begin Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. local venue time.

Swift’s announcement comes more than a week after she released her tenth studio album, “Midnights,” on Oct. 20 . The singer announced the album back in August during an acceptance speech at the Video Music Awards.

In a statement after the show , she described “Midnights” as a “a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face.”

Leading up to the release, Swift teased fans by trickling details about the album — including writing credits for boyfriend Joe Alwyn and “The Batman” star Zoë Kravitz.

“Midnights” made its grand entrance by briefly crashing Spotify and treating fans to bonus tracks and a companion music video for the single “Anti-Hero.”

Times critic Mikael Wood wrote that “Midnights” “returns to an earlier Swift mode in both sonic and lyrical terms.”

After two rootsy pandemic albums, ‘Midnights’ picks up right where 2014’s ‘1989’ and 2017’s ‘Reputation’ left off.

Adding to the excitement around “Midnights” was the album’s commercial success. Swift’s new album broke records on Spotify last week and on Monday, the singer became the first artist to fully occupy the top 10 spots of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

“10 out of 10 of the Hot 100??? On my 10th album??? I AM IN SHAMBLES,” Swift tweeted on Monday.

Important information for buying tickets during the TaylorSwiftTix Presale powered by Verified Fan:

Our goal is to maximize the number of fans who have an opportunity to shop.

The link in your text will direct you to the show you were selected for — either a show that was available during registration or a show that was announced after registration closed.

If you were selected for a show available during registration, your code will enable you to shop  that  show  or any show in the same city  that was announced after registration closed. (You will not be able to shop a different show that was available during registration).

If you were selected for a show announced after registration closed — i.e., the link in your text directs you to one of those shows — your code is good for that show. Taylor Swift's 'Eras Tour' Is Going To Japan, Australia, Europe & More

The singer announced more international tour dates for the Eras Tour .

Taylor Swift is back on tour for the first time in five years. Since her last tour, she’s put out a whopping four albums, each with its own mythology, color scheme and unique sound to mark whatever era of her life — both creatively and musically — she’s currently in. When it comes to Taylor, there’s something for everyone: There’s the longing cottage-core of folklore and evermore , the self-hating, depressive late nights of Midnights , the dreamy rosy-eyed glasses of Lover . Swift is now revisiting these eras on her latest Eras Tour which, after an extensive 2023 U.S., Mexico, and South America run, will finally make its way overseas in 2024 to Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Europe.

In true Taylor form, she’s bringing her friends along for the ride — who encompass a wide swatch of generations and music tastes as varied as Swift’s own catalogue. Swift is supported by Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN on the tour’s 2023 U.S. leg. (Yes, you have permission to scream!) While Sabrina Carpenter will take over for Swift’s shows in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and a few 2024 dates in Australia and Singapore. Paramore will return as openers for her 2024 European shows.

The Eras Tour kicked off March 18, 2023 in Glendale, AZ, the same place her “Reputation” tour began in 2018, with the U.S. leg wrapping in L.A.’s SoFi Stadium on August 9 — the same place she was set to open her 2020 Lover Fest mini-tour. Following shows in Mexico and South America, she embarks on her third leg of international dates starting February 2024.

For everything else we know about attending Swift’s Eras tour, including the full tour schedule, dates, and how to score tickets, read on.

Who is opening on the Eras Tour ?

Paramore is opening for Swift across all the European dates of the 2024 international leg of the Eras Tour — that’s a whopping 48 shows.

Sabrina Carpenter , meanwhile, will be the sole opener for the entirety of the Mexico and South America leg of the tour, and on select dates in the 2024 international leg.

For the U.S. leg, Swift had a different opener (or two!) depending on the city and which include entirely women bands. Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ is first concert tour to gross $1 billion

LOS ANGELES — Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is the first tour to cross the billion-dollar mark, according to Pollstar’s 2023 year-end charts.

Not only was Swift’s landmark Eras Tour the No. 1 tour both worldwide and in North America, but she also brought in a whopping $1.04 billion with 4.35 million tickets sold across 60 tour dates, the concert trade publication found.

Pollstar data is pulled from box office reports, venue capacity estimates, historical Pollstar venue ticket sales data, and other undefined research, collected from Nov. 17, 2022 to Nov. 15, 2023.

Representatives for the publication did not immediately clarify if they adjusted past tour data to match 2023 inflation in naming Swift the first to break the billion-dollar threshold.

Pollstar also found that Swift brought in approximately $200 million in merch sales and her blockbuster film adaptation of the tour,  “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,”  has reportedly earned approximately $250 million in sales, making it the  highest-grossing concert film of all time.

According to their estimates, Pollstar predicts a big 2024 for Swift as well. The magazine projects the Eras Tour will once again reach $1 billion within their eligibility window, meaning Swift is likely to bring in over $2 billion over the span of the tour.

Worldwide, Swift’s tour was followed by Beyoncé in second, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band in third, Coldplay in fourth, Harry Styles in fifth, and Morgan Wallen, Ed Sheeran, Pink, The Weeknd and Drake.

In North America, there was a similar top 10: Swift, followed by Beyoncé, Morgan Wallen, Drake, P!nk, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Ed Sheeran, George Strait, Karol G, and RBD.

Beyond the Swift of it all, 2023 was a landmark year for concert sales: worldwide, the top 100 tours of the year saw a 46% jump from last year, bringing in $9.17 billion compared to 2022’s $6.28 billion.

In North America, that number jumped from $4.77 billion last year to $6.63 billion.

Earlier this week, Swift was named  Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. Last month, Apple Music named her its artist of the year; Spotify revealed she was 2023’s most-streamed artist globally, raking in more than 26.1 billion streams since Jan. 1 and beating Bad Bunny’s three-year record.

Taylor Swift Taps Paramore for European Eras Tour Run

Taylor Swift knows we need more — so she’s giving us just that. The singer has added 14 more shows to the European/U.K. leg of her Eras Tour , and announced that Paramore will provide support throughout the trek.

“Really can’t contain my excitement because… we’re adding 14 new shows to The Eras Tour,” Swift wrote on Twitter Wednesday, July 5. “And I get to travel the world doing shows with @paramore !! Hayley and I have been friends since we were teens in Nashville and now we get to frolic around the UK/Europe next summer??? I’m screaming???”

Last month, Swift added dozens of shows to her Taylor Swift: The Eras stadium tour — bringing the total count of shows to a whooping 104 nights . She also extended her run at Los Angeles’ So-Fi Stadium with a sixth show scheduled for Aug. 7.

The new addition comes after the singer announced shows in Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Europe earlier this week. (See below for the full tour dates.)

“EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY 🙋‍♀️,” she wrote on Instagram. “I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates!”

She also added more dates to her already-announced Latin America tour. After wrapping her U.S. dates in Los Angeles on Aug. 9, Swift will head to Mexico City for four straight shows at Foro Sol starting Aug. 24. She’ll then stop in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and both Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil in November.

Swift first announced the tour last October after she completely took over the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 with Midnights . The added dates, which follow the addition of eight new shows last week, were slotted in “due to unprecedented demand,” according to the singer’s camp.

“Good Morning America, it’s Taylor,” Swift said during the announcement. “I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time and I’ve been planning for ages, and I finally get to tell you I’m going back on tour. The tour is called the ‘Eras’ tour, and it’s a journey through all of my musical eras of my career.”

The tour began on March 17 in Glendale, Arizona and extends through Aug. 9, where the singer will wrap with a fifth night at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Swift still has stops left in Detroit, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Santa Clara.

Charli XCX and Troye Sivan Want to Make You 'Sweat' on Co-Headlining Arena Tour

Travis kelce had 'so much fun' witnessing coachella 'madness' from the pit with taylor swift, taylor swift's 'blank space' was a pop pivot with a sense of humor.

Across the tour, Swift is being supported in select cities by a combination of special guests including Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN.

The Eras tour follows the cancelation of her planned 2020 Lover Fest tour, which was originally going to see her make stadium stops in Los Angeles, Boston, and New York, along with Brazil, Denmark, Norway, and Poland. “This is an unprecedented pandemic that has changed everyone’s plans and no one knows what the touring landscape is going to look like in the near future,” she wrote in 2021.

Swift last went the road in 2018 for her massive Reputation Stadium Tour , which saw Swift accompanied by the likes of Charli XCX and Camila Cabello across the United States, the United Kingdom, along with Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. The tour was the highest-grossing music tour by a female artist that year.

Since her last tour, Swift has released four albums and two re-releases: Lover , Folklore , Evermore , Midnights , and Taylor’s Version editions of Fearless and Red with additional songs. In total, she’s dropped 90 tracks of new material, not including collaborations with the likes of Haim and Big Red Machine.

Fans have long wondered what music she’ll be performing on the road, with some theorizing that she’d host a residency in Las Vegas or a music festival where she’d perform different “eras” on different nights.

Along with packing her setlist with songs from Reputation in 2018, she surprised each city with an acoustic rendition of fan favorites like “Red,” “Holy Ground,” and “Wildest Dreams.” At select shows, she also brought out special guests. Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, Hayley Kiyoko, and Maren Morris were among the artists to be brought out by Swift.

The stadium tour was accompanied by a concert film released on New Year’s Eve that year.

She previously took her 1989 album on the road for 85 dates, where she was accompanied by the likes of Mendes, James Bay, Vance Joy, and Haim. Before then was The Red Tour in 2013 and 2014, and her Speak Now World Tour from 2011 to 2012.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour: A Timeline of the Ticketmaster Fiasco

From the presale chaos to the response from Swifties and lawmakers, here’s what to know about the debacle surrounding Ticketmaster and Taylor Swift’s latest tour

Karli Bendlin is the Director of Content Strategy at PEOPLE. She has over nine years of editorial experience covering entertainment, beauty, and lifestyle, and has been working at PEOPLE since 2022.

Taylor Swift fans are ushering in a new era for Ticketmaster.

The Midnights singer's loyal listeners have taken the company to task after the ticket-buying process for her upcoming Eras Tour resulted in chaos. In addition to a lawsuit filed by over two dozen fans against Live Nation Entertainment, Ticketmaster's parent company, the Swifties are taking their complaints against Ticketmaster all the way to D.C.

The saga started back when Swift first announced she was going on tour following the release of her 10th studio album, Midnights . Given the success of Midnights , Swift's overall popularity and the fact that the singer-songwriter's previous tour had been canceled due to the pandemic, Eras was immediately projected to be the hottest ticket of the year.

When fans eagerly showed up to try and purchase tickets on Nov. 15, however, they were met with a litany of issues on the Ticketmaster website. Some potential ticket buyers were locked out of the sale when their Verified Fan codes failed to work, while others were initially able to secure tickets, only to lose them and get kicked out of the process once they tried to check out.

Ticketmaster later chalked the disaster up to "historically unprecedented demand," though Swift had some choice words for the company in her response, noting that she and her team had "asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could." The Grammy winner also wrote that the situation "really pisses me off" and that she was actively working on a solution for her fans.

From how the chaos ensued to the response it's provoking from lawmakers, here's everything to know about the debacle surrounding Ticketmaster and Taylor Swift 's Eras Tour.

Oct. 28, 2022: Taylor Swift says that a Midnights tour is coming

While appearing on The Graham Norton Show , the "Bejeweled" singer first teased an upcoming tour tied to the release of her latest album.

"We will sometime soonish. It's going to happen," Swift said when asked by the host, adding, "We will do it and it will be great."

Nov. 1, 2022: Taylor Swift officially announces the Eras Tour

A few days later, Swift confirmed she was going back on tour in 2023.

"I'm enchanted to announce my next tour: Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour, a journey through the musical eras of my career (past and present!)," the Grammy winner wrote on social media.

She added, "The first leg of the tour will be in stadiums across the US, with international dates to be announced as soon as we can!"

Swift said that the Eras Tour would kick off on March 18, 2023, in Glendale, Arizona, and conclude on Aug. 5, 2023, in Los Angeles. She also shared the names of the performers who will be joining her onstage for her opening acts, including Paramore , Phoebe Bridgers and HAIM , before ending with a message to her fans: "I can't WAIT to see your gorgeous faces out there. It's been a long time coming 🥰."

Along with the tour announcement came information about how fans could score tickets. Hopeful concert attendees could register in advance through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan Program for a Nov. 15 presale, while Capital One cardholders could participate in another presale happening that same day. A general sale was then planned for Nov. 18 for fans who didn't receive a Verified Fan code or have a Capital One card. Per the release, ticket prices ranged from $49 to $449, with VIP packages going for $199 up to $899.

Nov. 4, 2022: Taylor Swift adds 8 new dates to the Eras Tour

Shortly after announcing the Eras Tour, Swift added eight new dates to the highly anticipated event. "UM. Looks like I'll get to see more of your beautiful faces than previously expected… we're adding 8 shows to the tour," the singer wrote on Twitter.

Nov. 9, 2022: Registration ends for Ticketmaster's Verified Fan program

Fans had until Nov. 9 to register for the Eras presale through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan program. The company later said that over 3.5 million users pre-registered for the sale, making it the largest registration in Ticketmaster history. Presale codes were then sent out to 1.5 million potential ticket buyers, while the remaining 2 million people were put on a waitlist.

Nov. 11, 2022: Taylor Swift announces an additional 17 dates

Even before ticket sales kicked off, the demand for Swift's upcoming tour was high — so much so that the Midnights singer added an additional 17 performances , bringing the total to 52 shows. The extra dates officially made Eras her biggest tour to date.

Nov. 15, 2022: Ticketmaster's Verified Fan sale starts

Tickets for the Era tour were first available to purchase on Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. local venue time for the lucky 1.5 million fans who received Verified Fan codes. However, the sale quickly descended into chaos as fans began reporting site crashes, extremely long waits and other technical glitches.

Potential ticket buyers shared their frustrations on social media, comparing their experience to The Hunger Games and calling on Ticketmaster and Swift to address the debacle.

Politicians even got involved, with House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeting that Ticketmaster has become a "monopoly" after its merger with Live Nation and that "they need to be reigned in."

A few hours after the sale's planned start time, Ticketmaster tweeted that the issues were due to "historically unprecedented demand" and announced it was pushing back the start times for some West Coast venues. The Capital One presale was also rescheduled for the following day.

Nov. 17, 2022: Ticketmaster cancels general sale after "extraordinarily high demands"

Fans who weren't able to secure tickets during the Verified Fan or Capital One presales were shocked when Ticketmaster announced that the general sale planned for Friday, Nov. 18 was officially canceled .

"Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow's public on-sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been cancelled," read a tweet posted to the official Ticketmaster account.

Earlier that morning, Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei (Liberty owns part of Live Nation, of which Ticketmaster is a subsidiary), had blamed the situation on the "massive demand" for Swift tickets during an interview with CNBC .

"The site was supposed to be opened up for 1.5 million verified Taylor Swift fans," he said. "We had 14 million people hit the site — including bots, another story, which are not supposed to be there — and despite all the challenges and the breakdowns, we did sell over 2 million tickets that day."

Nov. 18, 2022: Taylor Swift speaks out: "it really pisses me off "

On Nov. 18, Swift spoke out about the fiasco in a message to her fans via her Instagram Story.

"Well. It goes without saying that I'm extremely protective of my fans. We've been doing this for decades together and over the years, I've brought so many elements of my career in house. I've done this SPECIFICALLY to improve the quality of my fans' experience by doing it myself with my team who care as much about my fans as I do," she wrote. "It's really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties, and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse."

The singer added that she was investigating why the situation unfolded the way it did and how it could be improved in the future. "I'm not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could. It's truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them felt like they had to go through several bear attacks to get them."

Swift concluded her note with a sign-off to her fans who weren't able to get tickets: "All I can say is that my hope is to provide more opportunities for us to all get together and sing these songs. Thank you for wanting to be there. You have no idea how much that means."

Nov. 18, 2022: Ticketmaster apologizes to Taylor Swift fans and blames issues on high demand and "bot attacks"

On the day the canceled general ticket sale was supposed to occur, Ticketmaster issued an apology to Swift fans along with a lengthy explanation about what went wrong during the presale.

"We strive to make ticket buying as easy as possible for fans, but that hasn't been the case for many people trying to buy tickets for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour," Ticketmaster began in the statement. "First, we want to apologize to Taylor and all of her fans — especially those who had a terrible experience trying to purchase tickets."

Ticketmaster then explained their Verified Fan process, which is tasked with "identifying real humans and weeding out bots." The company noted that although they only gave out 1.5 million presale codes, the site was overwhelmed on the day of the sale due to fans who showed up without a code and a "staggering number of bot attacks."

While they estimated that only 15% of users experienced issues, Ticketmaster recognized "that's 15% too many, including passcode validation errors that caused fans to lose tickets they had carted." Despite the disruptions, the statement explained, the Nov. 15 sale broke the Ticketmaster record for most tickets sold for an artist in a single day, selling over 2 million tickets.

In total, the company explained, 2.4 million tickets were sold across the Verified Fan and Capital One sales on both Ticketmaster and SeatGeek. Additionally, less than 5% of tickets had been sold or posted on the secondary market.

The statement wrapped up by saying Ticketmaster is working on improving its technology for future sales, before offering some perspective on the scope of the demand for Era tickets.

"Even when a high demand onsale goes flawlessly from a tech perspective, many fans are left empty handed. For example: based on the volume of traffic to our site, Taylor would need to perform over 900 stadium shows (almost 20x the number of shows she is doing)…that's a stadium show every single night for the next 2.5 years. While it's impossible for everyone to get tickets to these shows, we know we can do more to improve the experience and that's what we're focused on," it concluded.

Nov. 18, 2022: The Justice Department reportedly opens an investigation into Ticketmaster's parent company

The New York Times reported that the Justice Department was looking into whether Live Nation Entertainment, the parent company for Ticketmaster, has abused its power in the music industry. And while the inquiry is said to predate the Eras tour disaster, the situation further exacerbated complaints from fans, musicians and politicians alike.

In response to the report, Live Nation issued a statement on its website, saying that it "takes its responsibilities under the antitrust laws seriously and does not engage in behaviors that could justify antitrust litigation."

Nov. 22, 2022: Congress announces an antitrust hearing after Eras Tour fiasco

Senators Amy Klobuchar and Mike Lee announced that a U.S. Senate antitrust panel will hold a hearing "to examine the lack of competition in the ticketing industry."

"Last week, the competition problem in ticketing markets was made painfully obvious when Ticketmaster's website failed hundreds of thousands of fans hoping to purchase concert tickets," said Klobuchar in a statement, citing how the "high fees, site disruptions and cancellations" customers were faced with showed that Ticketmaster "does not face any pressure to continually innovate and improve."

She continued, "That's why we will hold a hearing on how consolidation in the live entertainment and ticketing industry harms customers and artists alike. When there is no competition to incentivize better services and fair prices, we all suffer the consequences."

Dec. 5, 2022: Taylor Swift fans sue Ticketmaster's parent company

In response to the presale fiasco, more than two dozen Swifties teamed up and filed a lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment.

According to documents obtained by Deadline , Live Nation Entertainment is being accused of violating the state's Cartwright Act and Unfair Competition Law, fraud, misrepresentation and fraudulent inducement.

The documents cited the "disaster" that occurred on Nov. 15 and Nov. 16, along with the "cancellation of general sale tickets scheduled for Nov. 18," alleging that Ticketmaster "has effectuated this anticompetitive scheme by forcing fans of musicians to exclusively use Ticketmaster for presale and sales prices, which are above what a competitive market price would be."

The plaintiffs, who are seeking a penalty of $2,500 against the company for every violation of Business and Professions Code section 17200, additionally claimed that Ticketmaster "intentionally and purposefully mislead ticket purchasers" by permitting "scalpers and bots" to access the presale. The suit also alleged that Ticketmaster provided more codes than ticket allotment and scheduled the general ticket sale "knowing they would not have the quantity necessary" to fulfill the demand.

Dec. 12, 2022: Select Taylor Swift fans get a second chance at purchasing Eras tickets

At last, some good news for Swifties came on Dec. 12, when select fans received emails notifying them that they would get a second chance to purchase Eras tickets.

"Congratulations, you have been selected to participate in a limited-time opportunity to request to purchase 2 tickets to Taylor Swift The Eras Tour," the note read, per Billboard .

"You were selected for this opportunity because you have been identified as a fan who received a boost during the Verified Fan presale but did not purchase tickets," it continued. "We apologized for the difficulties you may have experienced, and have been asked by Taylor's team to create this additional opportunity for you to purchase tickets."

According to a Ticketmaster release , fans who received the email will receive a separate invitation where they can submit a purchase request to Ticketmaster by Dec. 23. Invites will also be staggered by tour dates in each city.

Dec. 15, 2022: Ticketmaster reportedly has 170,000 remaining tickets to Eras Tour

According to Billboard , Ticketmaster still has 170,000 remaining tickets for the Eras tour — and the company is gearing up to sell them to the lucky fans who previously received emails in the next four weeks.

The outlet reported that Ticketmaster will use Ticketstoday — a ticketing platform first made in the early '00s for the Dave Matthews Band's fan club — to sell the tickets, with the hope that the platform will help them avoid crashes or long wait times.

January 18, 2023: The senate sets a date for Ticketmaster hearing

U.S. Senators announced a date for the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the lack of competition in the ticketing industry. The hearing will be held at 10:00 am on Jan. 24, 2023, reports Variety .

In a statement, Senator Amy Klobuchar said, "The issues within America's ticketing industry were made painfully obvious when Ticketmaster's website failed hundreds of thousands of fans hoping to purchase tickets for Taylor Swift 's new tour, but these problems are not new. For too long, consumers have faced high fees, long waits, and website failures, and Ticketmaster's dominant market position means the company faces inadequate pressure to innovate and improve."

She added that, at the hearing, "We will examine how consolidation in the live entertainment and ticketing industries harms customers and artists alike. Without competition to incentivize better services and fair prices, we all suffer the consequences."

January 24, 2023: Senators quote Taylor Swift's lyrics during arguments at Ticketmaster hearing

Several members of the Senate Judiciary Committee utilized Swift's lyrics to make their arguments .

Early in the hearing, U.S. Sen. Mike Lee quoted "Blank Space," when he referred to the idea of limits on ticket transfers as a "nightmare dressed like a daydream."

U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar opened her remarks with an "All Too Well" reference. Then, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal asked Live Nation's president Joe Berchtold to look in the mirror and say: "I'm the problem, it's me."

March 17, 2023: Taylor Swift hints at Ticketmaster fiasco during opening night of the Eras Tour

Swift kicked off her tour in Glendale, California. At the start of the show, the songstress addressed the sold-out crowd — and subtly hinted at the Ticketmaster debacle.

"I'm going to take a wild guess and say that if you're here tonight, there's a pretty good chance that you went to a considerable amount of effort to be with us tonight," she said. "Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for wanting to be with us on night one."

March 27, 2023: Taylor Swift fans have their first day in court

Swift fans finally got their day in court. Roughly 10 of the 340 plaintiffs in the Live Nation lawsuit showed up for the hearing in L.A. — an opportunity to recount their Ticketmaster experience for the court record. The Live Nation attorneys attended the proceedings virtually.

While the Swift fans are still seeking $2,500 in damages each, plaintiff Penny Harrison told CNN that the lawsuit "has nothing to do with the money."

"It has everything to do with TicketMaster is the only venue in town. It's the only place to get tickets," she said. "The hope is that in 10 years from now that they'll look back and say this was the turning point. This was when competition branched out and ticket prices came down."

“I’m enchanted to announce my next tour: Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour, a journey through the musical eras of my career (past and present!),” Swift wrote via Instagram after sharing the big news on Good Morning America on Tuesday, November 1. “The first leg of the tour will be in stadiums across the US, with international dates to be announced as soon as we can! ”

She also revealed the different openers across the 27-date tour; “Feeling like the luckiest person alive because I get to take these brilliant artists out on tour with me: @paramore, @radvxz, @phoebebridgers, @girlinred, @whereismuna, @haimtheband, @gracieabrams, @gayle and @owennmusic. I can’t WAIT to see your gorgeous faces out there. It’s been a long time coming 🥰.”

The “All Too Well” singer, 32, first hinted at a tour coming up when she made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on October 24.

“I think I should do it,” Swift responded when asked by Jimmy Fallon if she was thinking about doing a tour. “I should do it … when it’s time, we’ll do it.”

The news of her tour comes right after the 11-time Grammy winner dropped her 10th album , Midnights , on October 21.

In under 24 hours, her new album broke streaming records on Amazon, Spotify and Amazon. Swift has already sold over one million copies of Midnights in the U.S., marking the first time since 2017 that an artist sold one million records in its opening week.

The album contains thirteen songs, created alongside record producer Jack Antonoff , which the pop icon describes as a “collage of intensity, highs and lows and ebbs and flows.”

“Life can be dark, starry, cloudy, terrifying, electrifying, hot, cold, romantic or lonely,” Swift explained on Instagram the day of Midnight’s release. “Just like Midnights. Which is out now.”

In a surprise turn of events, the Pennsylvania native released seven new songs three hours later, calling the deluxe album Midnights (3am Edition) .

“Surprise! I think of Midnights as a complete concept album, with those 13 songs forming a full picture of the intensities of that mystifying, mad hour,” Swift shared via Instagram at the time. “However! There were other songs we wrote on our journey to find that magic 13. I’m calling them 3am tracks. Lately I’ve been loving the feeling of sharing more of our creative process with you, like we do From The Vault tracks. So it’s 3am and I’m giving them to you now. 🌌.”

The songwriter is currently in the process of re-recording her earlier albums because it will allow her to own the songs’ original recordings.

In 2019, Swift announced to the public that she wanted to perform a medley of hits through the decades at the AMA’s and perform her music in her documentary, however, the executives of Big Machine Label Group, Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun , would not allow it.

“Scott Borchetta told my team that they’ll allow me to use my music only if I do these things: If I agree to not re-record copycat versions of my songs next year (which is something I’m both legally allowed to do and looking forward to) and also told my team that I need to stop talking about him and Scooter Braun,” the “You Belong With Me” singer shared in an emotional message on Tumblr.

She continued: “I feel very strongly that sharing what is happening to me could change the awareness level for other artists and potentially help them avoid a similar fate. The message being sent to me is very clear. Basically, be a good little girl and shut up. Or you’ll be punished.”

So far, Swift has re-recorded two albums, Fearless and Red , however, she plans to keep releasing more .

“When I created [these songs], I didn’t know what they would grow up to be,” the All Too Well: The Short Film director explained in an interview with Billboard in December 2019. “Going back in and knowing it meant something to people is actually a really beautiful way to celebrate what the fans have done for my music.”

Taylor Swift performs onstage during the "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" at Foro Sol on August 24, ... [+] 2023 in Mexico City, Mexico.

Excitement is peaking for Taylor Swift ’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department . With a release date of April 19, the album is poised to make history for the Grammy darling, who’s coming off a hugely successful world tour and, of course, her hugely successful NFL season (her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, may have been the one on the field, but she certainly made just as many headlines). Swift is famous for dropping hints and Easter eggs for her fans, who are eagerly interpreting everything she’s done in the weeks leading up to the album’s release. She has been busy dropping lyrics and curating playlists that give clues to the upcoming release’s themes. Here’s everything that’s known so far about the album and its release strategy.

1. The Tortured Poets Department Is Taylor Swift’s 15 Album

Swift has released 14 albums to date (including 10 studio albums), with The Tortured Poets Department slated to be No. 15. Four of the releases are rerecordings of previous albums, which are subtitled Taylor’s Version . The rereleases came after Scooter Braun acquired the rights to some of Swfit’s music in 2019.

2. Swift Announced The Album At The Grammys

She did it to coincide with winning her 13 th Grammy award (as fans know, 13 is her lucky number) earlier this year. As she accepted the honor, given for best pop vocal album for Midnights , she teased details of the album , and the name went up on her social media accounts.

Taylor Swift accepts the Best Pop Vocal Album award for "Midnights" on stage during the 66th Annual ... [+] Grammy Awards.

3. The New Album Has 16 Songs

Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs celebrates with Taylor Swift after defeating the Baltimore ... [+] Ravens in the AFC Championship game.

6. Swift Released Playlists Based On Five Stages Of Heartbreak

As Swift’s fans know, many of her songs deal with love and heartbreak. Two weeks before the album’s release, the singer sparked a frenzy when she released five playlists on Apple AAPL Music that she curated from her catalog that matched up with the five stages of heartbreak (including anger and depression). She included a statement about each phase, prompting speculation over how the stages will be addressed in the new album.

7. Three Lyrics From An Unnamed Song Have Already Been Released

Swift caused another frenzy when she dropped three lyrics from an unnamed song: “Crowd goes wild at her fingertips//Half moonshine,//Full eclipse.” Appropriately enough, she did this as the world was preparing for the full eclipse and those two words were already dominating internet searches. She is nothing if not media savvy.

8. The Album’s Release Date May Mean Something

Swift famously sends messages with all her decisions. Fans have speculated that this album will address her 2023 breakup with Joe Allwyn, whom she dated for six years. The pair split in April of last year, so the album is coming out right around that anniversary.

Why did Taylor Swift name her new album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’?

There is a lot of speculation surrounding why Swift named her album “The Tortured Poets Department.” The most popular one is that it’s a jab at her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, whom she dated for six years until last year.

Fans resurfaced an interview Alwyn did for Variety with fellow actor Paul Mescal where they mentioned that the two – along with Andrew Scott – have a WhatsApp group called “The Tortured Man Club.” Swifties believe that Taylor’s new album is a play on this group chat name.

Will ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ be pop?

It appears that “The Tortured Poets Department” will be a pop album, according to its categorization on Apple Music.

Some fans are hoping that it’s similar to Swift’s eighth and ninth albums “Folklore” and “Evermore” although those were listed as “Alternative” albums. Others think it might have a hint of country or be a little bit punk . We will just have to see what Swift comes up with on April 19 and if she deviates from a more traditional pop album.

What does LOML mean?

“loml” is listed as one of the tracks on Taylor Swift’s album “The Tortured Poets Department,” LOML is typically used as an acronym for “love of my life.” However, some fans theorize that it could also mean “loss of my life” or “loss of my love” and in true Taylor fashion, it’s important to expect the unexpected.

UK-based fans (and those travelling to see Swift from overseas) will then get to see her live during three nights from 7 to 9 June at the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland, before she heads to Liverpool and Cardiff.

Swift is booked to perform a staggering eight shows at Wembley Stadium in London, with the first three taking place between 21 and 23 June, before she returns for the final five nights of her UK and Europe tour between 15 and 20 August.

In between those, she will have also played in Dublin, Ireland, in Amsterdam, Zurich, Milan, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg and Munich in Germany, Warsaw in Poland, and Vienna, Austria.

In a five-star review of the very first show of Swift’s Eras tour , critic Kelsey Barnes wrote how the US star guided fans through more than a decade’s worth of “her best work”.

“Her ‘Eras Tour’ was designed as a journey through that staggering back catalogue of 10 albums, from her earlier country twang on her self-titled debut to the shift to synth-pop on 1989 , then to the subdued folk and alt-rock of Folklore and Evermore ,” she wrote.

“Throughout the opening night of the tour, it frequently feels as though the audience is being caught up with Swift’s past, present and future. In the 44-song setlist that spans three hours and 15 minutes, she shows why the “era” concept is so integral to who she is. Each chapter marks a specific shift in her artistry.”

The Tortured Poets Department, released on 19 April, is the pop titan’s 11th studio album. It appears to have been inspired, in part, by the five stages of grief. Ahead of the release, Swift shared five new playlists that arrange her songs into those stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

“These songs represent making room for more good in your life,” she says in a brief audio message that accompanied the final playlist, acceptance. “Making that choice. Because a lot of time when we lose things, we gain things too.”

Why Travis Kelce Thinks Taylor Swift Falling For Him Is a Glitch

Six months after taylor swift attended her first kansas city chiefs game, travis kelce shared the reason he’s surprised the “karma” singer wanted to date him..

Even Travis Kelce is surprised by how his paralleled lines intertwined with Taylor Swift .

Six months after his relationship with the "Karma" singer became public, the guy on the Chiefs is still shocked at how favorably the dominoes cascaded in a line for him.

"I don't know how I did it because she wasn't into sports," he explained on the April 10 episode of New Heights . "So I don't know how the f--k I did it."

However, the episode's guest, Dave Burd , known by his rap name Lil Dicky , cheekily provided the answer, "Well, you did it because you called her out on your multimedia platform."

And Travis conceded, "I know exactly how I did it."

Of course, Dave and Travis were referring to the infamous July 2023 episode of New Heights —when Travis playfully poked at Taylor blowing him off during her Kansas City stop of the Eras Tour , where he had planned to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.

"I was disappointed that she doesn't talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings," he said at the time. "So I was a little butt-hurt I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her."

While Taylor didn't notice that Travis showed up to her party, she evidently found the gesture fearless. In fact, she later said it was what lit the fuse on their relationship, describing the situation to TIME  magazine as "metal as hell."

Fast forward to way more than 300 conversations about Taylor and Travis later, and the NFL tight end is still living his best life.

"It's fun," he added on the April 10 podcast episode.  "I'm having a blast in life, baby. Just flying high. Enjoying it all. Bringing new lives to the football world. Opening the football world up to new things as well."

Dave also encapsulated the Swiftie point of view with his own comments on the relationship.

"I think it's the best thing ever," he told Travis and his brother Jason Kelce . "Not that you want to spend time talking about it for the five-thousandth time, but I just think there's something that makes everyone feel like the world is kind of like high school. Where the most popular pop star, beloved musician somehow met your most popular beloved athlete and they actually fell in love."

As he put it, "Anyone who hates on it is a bitter loser—there's something classic about it."

Taylor and Travis will never go out of style. Read on for every moment from their relationship so far.

July 2023: So, Make the Friendship Bracelets

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce 's love story began in July 2023, when the singer's Eras Tour made a stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

As a huge Swiftie, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end caught the show with hopes of giving Taylor a friendship bracelet with his number on it . However, he failed to complete the pass due to her pre-show rituals.

"I was disappointed that she doesn't talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings," Travis shared on the July 26 episode of his  New Heights podcast. "So, I was a little butt-hurt I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her."

Summer 2023: This Is Him Trying

After publicly recounting his fumble—a move Taylor would later describe as "metal as hell" —Travis decided to shoot his shot and invite the Grammy winner to watch the Chiefs play at Arrowhead Stadium.

"I threw it out there, I threw the ball in her court," he shared on The Pat McAfee Show . "I told her, you know, 'I've seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead, you might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one's a little more lit.' So, we'll see what happens in the near future."

August 2023: Enchanted to Meet You

Travis was rocking a mustache—which he debuted in August during training camp—when he was first introduced to Taylor .

As he later noted of the era, "That 'stache and the 87 jersey was pretty iconic there for a little bit, and I had it when I met Taylor for the first time."

September 2023: Sparks Fly

By early September, a source close to the situation told E! News that Travis and Taylor were " texting and talking here and there ."

"It's been very low-key," the insider explained, "as he's been in season."

September 2023: Cheer Captain

Accepting Travis' invite, Taylor joined the athlete's mom Donna Kelce at Arrowhead Stadium to watch him and the Chiefs take on the Chicago Bears. After the game, Taylor and Travis were seen packing PDA at a local bar .

Though folklore had it that it was the couple's first in-person meeting, the "Karma" singer later clarified the two had spent a "significant amount of time" getting to know each other beforehand.

As Taylor noted, "We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date."

October 2023: Team Up

As an indication that the relationship was heating up, Taylor brought her squad —including friends Blake Lively , Ryan Reynolds , Sophie Turner , Hugh Jackman , Sabrina Carpenter and Antoni Porowski —to watch the Chiefs play against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

October 2023: It's Nice to Have a Friend

Another sign that Travis could be The 1 ? Taylor started bonding with Brittany Mahomes —the wife of Travis' BFF and teammate Patrick Mahomes —in and outside of NFL games .

October 2023: Welcome to New York

The couple took their romance to TV, making a surprise appearance on the Oct. 14 episode of Saturday Night Live . Their Big Apple takeover also included the after-party for the NBC sketch show and a date night at the Waverly Inn .

November 2023: Karma Is Her Boyfriend

During a bye week, Travis traveled down to Argentina to catch the South American leg of Taylor's Eras Tour. Not only did the NFL star bond with Taylor's dad , Scott Swift , at the Nov. 11 show in Buenos Aires, but he also got a special shoutout from the stage.

" Karma is that guy on the Chiefs ," Taylor sang, "coming straight home to me."

After the show, the Midnights  artist was seen running up to Travis backstage and greeting him with a passionate kiss .

December 2024: Speak Now

Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis' games.

"I'm going to see him do what he loves, we're showing up for each other, other people are there and we don't care," she told Time . "The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you're seeing someone."

December 2023: You, Who Charmed Her Dad

The music superstar turned Travis' Dec. 17 game into a family affair, bringing her dad to cheer on her man .

January 2024: All the Midnights

Taylor and Travis spent their first New Year's Eve together, sharing a romantic kiss when the clock struck midnight on Jan. 1.

January 2024: Chosen Family

Continuing to bond with Travis' family, Taylor hung out with his brother Jason Kelce and sister-in-law Kylie Kelce at the Chiefs' game against the Buffalo Bills.

January 2024: Saved by the Perfect Kiss

Taylor joined Travis on the football field when the Chiefs won the AFC Championship , a victory that cemented the team's spot in the 2024 Super Bowl . The couple shared a celebratory kiss before exchanging the L-word .

"Tay, I'm gonna enjoy with the guys," he told her. "I love you—so much it's not funny."

February 2024: Super Bowl Champs

The pair locked lips on the field after Travis led the Kansas City Chiefs to victory on Feb. 11, 2024 in Las Vegas.

February 2024: TikTok Official

Taylor posted footage of Travis on social media for the first time Feb. 12, poking fun at how she took her parents clubbing with the athlete after the Super Bowl.

‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version)' Lands At No. 8 On Nielsen Streaming List In Disney+ Debut Week

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) had some tough competition in its debut week on Disney+.

The film landed on the streamer March 14 and racked up 677M minutes in its first few days on the platform, according to Nielsen. That placed it at No. 8 overall on Nielsen’s streaming list for the week of March 11 to 17.

Nielsen says viewing was driven by an audience that was 70% female, and it was pretty evenly distributed across age ranges. Naturally, the 18-34 demo had the highest concentration of viewing with 26%.

Meanwhile, The Gentleman and Love Is Blind were jockeying for the top spot, with the former ultimately winning out. Although Love Is Blind marked its fourth consecutive week with over a billion viewing minutes (1.44B to be exact), it fell to third place this week.

That’s due in part to the fact that The Gentleman saw a 54% surge in viewership from the week prior, tallying 1.86B viewing minutes during this interval.

In second place with Damsel , which was up 26% from its debut week to deliver 1.5B viewing minutes. According to Nielsen, one-third of viewing to Damsel came from Hispanic homes.

On Disney+, Bluey ‘s reign continues. The animated kids series bested the billion-minute mark yet again, having done so each week since the week of Christmas, capturing 1.06B viewing minutes to take No. 4.

Taylor Swift's new album rollout strategy shows she's too big to fail

  • Taylor Swift's new album "The Tortured Poets Department" will arrive on Friday, April 19.
  • She has declined to release a lead single or promote the album in any significant way.
  • The quiet rollout strategy says a lot about Swift's stature in the pop-music landscape.

Insider Today

If you spend enough time in Taylor Swift-devoted territories of social media, as I have, you'll find posts that proclaim "The Tortured Poets Department" is her best album yet.

Die-hard fans say it's a masterpiece , destined to win Swift her fifth Grammy Award for album of the year .

Sure, some of these posts are tongue-in-cheek, while many are knowingly hyperbolic. But the fact that no fan has heard even one second of "Poets" — the album isn't out until Friday — seems to be a moot point. Once a pop star earns "fave" status, her actions go largely unchallenged by her base , while her music is blindly praised.

But Swift has managed to harness this reckless passion better than anyone else — at least in terms of commercial success .

If ttpd is only half as good as the playlist names / back cover lyrics, it HAS to win aoty. I mean... old habits die screaming? Am I allowed to cry?? You don't get to tell me about sad??? Lyrical masterpieces already pic.twitter.com/3TtadOb7AM — Maja (Taylor's Version) (@clover_blooms_) April 5, 2024

Swift announced the title of her 11th studio album back in early February, while accepting an award at the 2024 Grammys .

Although her team has used a few niche methods to drum up excitement this week (like painting a mysterious QR code on a wall in Chicago and partnering with Spotify for a library installation in Los Angeles), confirmed details from the singer herself are scant , save for the tracklist. With just a few days to go, we still haven't gotten a measly teaser or snippet, let alone a lead single.

Yes, you read that right. The aforementioned fans who insist "Poets" will dominate charts and break records have no idea what the album sounds like.

But that doesn't mean those fans are wrong. All evidence does point to "Poets" becoming another blockbuster for Swift despite her near-silent promotional strategy.

Swift used a similar gambit for "Midnights," the predecessor to "Poets," which arrived in late 2022. Though she was more active during that rollout, especially on TikTok , she never gave any hints of the album's sonic direction. Based on the '70s style of the cover shoot, many fans hoped for a Laurel Canyon vibe , akin to Carole King or Fleetwood Mac. It would've been an exciting change for Swift, but come release day, those fans were let down. "Midnights" was standard pop.

Still, the aesthetic misdirection didn't impair the album's performance. In fact, "Midnights" broke a variety of records and sold over 1 million copies in its first week (the first album to achieve the feat in seven years, since Swift's own album "Reputation" in 2017).

Remember, "Midnights" arrived just before The Eras Tour kicked off in 2023. Over the following year, Swiftmania swept the nation . Now, she's more popular than ever.

Related stories

Given the accomplishments of "Midnights," why wouldn't Swift double down on the less-is-more method? Even if she remained offline until Friday, it probably wouldn't matter. Her new music will be tasted by curious onlookers, queued by radio DJs, and blasted on a loop by longtime Swifties, even if it's bad . Her stature and influence in the pop-music landscape is its own marketing.

Beyoncé was actually the one to pioneer a minimalist rollout with her self-titled album in 2013 , which was released without any prior warning.

But even Beyoncé, an artist of peerless finesse and Swift-equivalent fame, has employed the reliable lead-single routine in recent years: "Formation" for "Lemonade," "Break My Soul" for "Renaissance," and earlier this year, "Texas Hold 'Em" for " Cowboy Carter ."

Back in 2020, Swift mimicked "Beyoncé" with "Folklore" and "Evermore," surprise-releasing the sister albums just a few months apart. Though both were celebrated by fans and critics, they did not yield the sky-high earnings Swift has grown accustomed to: Compare the debut sales week for "Reputation" ( 1.2 million copies ) to "Folklore" ( 846,000 copies ), even though the latter is a better album by every measure .

And so Swift, ever the capitalist, adjusted accordingly. Ever since " Red (Taylor's Version) " in 2021, Swift has always announced her next album ahead of time — allowing ample time for hype to mount and presales to accumulate — but she has withheld lead singles.

Instead, she selects and promotes a focus track (usually paired with a music video) on the same day as the album's release.

This adjustment has worked extremely well. "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)," "Anti-Hero," and "Is It Over Now?" have all debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while their parent albums simultaneously debuted atop the Billboard 200 (in 2021, 2022, and 2023, respectively).

In fact, Swift's metrics are only getting more impressive as time goes on. Her latest release, "1989 (Taylor's Version)," sold over 1.6 million copies in its first week, becoming Swift's biggest debut week to date — even though it's an updated edition of an album that already exists .

A big part of this success is thanks to Swift's supercharged embrace of vinyl . She has taken to releasing multiple physical variants of each album for her fans to "collect" and preorder ahead of time, boosting first-week sales figures.

For "Poets," Swift took it one step further: Each variant includes a different bonus track, so if you want to hear the complete set of new songs, you'll need to buy them all, carbon footprint be damned .

Another important point to note is Swift's unparalleled productivity. "Poets" will be her eighth album (including rerecords ) in less than four years.

Most pop stars stay relevant by breadcrumbing singles in between album cycles — but Swift keeps the same pace with full bodies of work. Every six months, on average, Swifties are handed 20 to 30 new songs to listen to. The particulars of each rollout strategy are rendered irrelevant, dwarfed by the all-consuming enormity of her own personal news cycle.

Of course, if you were to ask Swift about her promo tactics or prolific output, I'm fairly certain she'd say that none of it is driven by sales, charts, or any kind of financial gain, but by commitment to her craft.

No one expected Swift to release a brand-new album this year, especially in the midst of The Eras Tour, with two fan-favorite albums still left to rerecord . But she told fans that making "Poets" was an instinctive, almost compulsive act.

"Songwriting is something that actually gets me through my life, and I never had an album where I needed songwriting more," she said onstage in February .

It just so happens that her craft, her compulsion, her self-described "lifeline," is making music with mind-boggling commercial power.
