If you wanted, you could hop on a ferry to visit Cozumel Island and its beautiful beaches. Cozumel and Playa are home of the best diving spots so don’t miss the chance to go on a diving excursion in Playa del Carmen to see its reef and colorful fish! Looking for whale shark tours from Playa del Carmen or Riviera Maya? Listed below you’ll find the best options on the market, which offer great value while being friendly to the environment.

Playa del Carmen, and the Riviera Maya as a whole, are famed for the vibrant marine life that inhabits its shores .

The area is set along the iridescent blue waters of the Caribbean Sea. Besides, it’s home to the world’s second-largest barrier reef!

That’s why you can find numerous excursions from Playa del Carmen to explore the reef. I personally try and book a snorkeling tour every time I’m in the area. But starfish, corals, and colorful fish are not the only attractions the sea offers…

During the summer season, between May and September, the waters around Playa del Carmen receive the world’s largest congregation of whale sharks . It’s the best place to be to marvel at or even swim with the giant creatures!

Two snorkelers swimming near a whale shark, inserted in a post about the best whale shark tours in Playa del Carmen.

In this article you’ll find the best whale shark tours from Playa del Carmen and Riviera Maya , each offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

🌳 We care about responsible tourism, especially when the activities involve wildlife. We try and screen tour operators and only recommend activities with a good track record that guarantee a r esponsible interaction with the whale sharks .

Unfortunately, we can’t possibly go on every single tour. If you go on a tour and the activity or the tour company is not sustainable, PLEASE write us so we can eliminate it from our list.

⚠️ Please note that these tours are seasonal , as the whale sharks are only in the area for a few months a year. Sometimes, if you try to reserve a tour months in advance, the activity might look unavailable on the tour platform. No worries, it will become available again closer to the whale shark season.

I use and trust Viator and Get Your Guide to book tours during my travels. I especially recommend both platforms because of their great cancelation policy. They offer a full refund on most activities if canceled up to 24 hours in advance.

Frequently asked questions about our Playa del Carmen Whale Shark Snorkeling Tour

You can snorkel with whale sharks in Playa del Carmen from May to September, being July the best month to swim with the whale sharks.

We receive juvenile whale sharks that go up to 60 feet long!

It all depends on the boats, the crew, safety measures, and the tour provider you choose as you the activity is performed in open water. So, if you decide not to choose Captain Whale Shark, just be sure you choose a certified tour provider.

You should never touch a whale shark. You will be close enough to touch them, but if you do, probably the whale shark will swim to the bottom of the sea to never see it again, ruining the activity for the rest.

We can’t guarantee the presence of the whale sharks as they are in the wild, and water visibility and weather can interfere, however, we follow measures to ensure a top-notch experience as you can see in our reviews across the internet.

  • gabrielgK3141SM 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Excellent 3 day birding tour with Carlos Carlos led a 3 day birding trip for me and my wife through Contoy Excursions. Highly recommended! After pickup in Cancun we birded Ruta de los Cenotes, then stayed in Valladolid for two nights, hitting Las Coloradas one day and Coba the next. Carlos is an interesting and laid back guy, very fun to spend time with. He's an excellent guide both for birds and the region generally. Before and throughout the trip he consulted us to see if we wanted to make diversions to see particular Cenotes, archeological sites, and birding hot spots. He offered to fully customize the itinerary, but the one he set up sounded perfect so I mainly went with that. Good decision. Carlos is a skilled birder. He knew where to find particular birds we wanted to see, and structured the trip so we'd see the maximum number of species and micro-environments. I ended up seeing 87 lifers in just those three days! My wife and I are both experienced birders from the eastern US, but had never birded in a tropical setting... it was overwhelming and wonderful. Too many highlights to name but we loved seeing Toucans, Aracaris, King Vulture, Flamingos, Red-Legged Honeycreeper, multiple Trogon, Parrot, Woodcreeper and Euphonia species, Turquoise-Browed Motmot, every possible Oriole species (minus migrants), lots of Yucatan endemics like Oceolated Turkey, Yucatan woodpecker, Yellow-lored Parrot, Mexican Sheartail, Yucatan Wren... the list goes on and on. Equally amazing: seeing a troop of 50+ spider monkeys (with babies in tow), hearing a large cat's shriek (Jaguarundi?), seeing a rare yucatan deer, and seeing plants like orchids and achiote in the wild. Beyond just the birding Carlos created a great experience for our first Yucatan peninsula visit. Valladolid is a great place to stay and explore on foot in the evenings. The hotel he picked was quite nice. The restaurants he took us too were always good, and he helped us try local foods. He's a local who speaks Mayan and told us about the region's history and culture. We saw (and swam in) two different Cenotes, and birding Coba was great as there were ruins and birds. Overall the tour was a wonderful experience and I'd recommend it to anyone. Read more Written March 26, 2024

My fiancée and I love birdwatching and were so excited for this tour. We saw 64 species thanks to Carlos! Without him, we really wouldn’t have seen more than the grackles, Eurasian collared doves and pelicans in and around the city. Carlos was awesome. He is attentive easy going, and we really enjoyed him sharing his historical knowledge with us. We would definitely book again if we returned to Cancun :) Read more Written March 22, 2024

He is knowledgable and patient, and went out of his way to hunt out new birds for us. We are not experienced birdwatchers and learned so much from him. Both trips were outstanding! • jiteshp2024 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great birding in Southern Mexico It was a private tour for my wife and I accompanied by Carlos and Lugo who were our guides through the entire trip and also drove us around. Great experience on the 6 day tour with mostly birding activities combined with a mix of archaeological visits to Muyil and Chichen Itza. Birding was spectacular and we saw over 180 species in total. Carlos and Lugo who were our guises were absolutely incredible and meticulously kept track of where to find which species to help with our watching and also photography. They are friendly and amazing and did everything to make our trip special. Some of the accomodations were basic but that is understandable given the remote nature of some of the parks we visited. I was impressed by the ease of booking with Contoy, confirmation and information was very clear, pick-up on time and easy. Lugo was amazing; superb guide, obviously loves what he does and made the whole trip so enjoyable. He spotted so many birds - total of 47! So many highlights but the pygmy owl and hawk were amazing as was how they were spotted by Lugo! We absolutely loved the whole experience and cannot recommend this trip highly enough. Really hope we can repeat the experience in the future. Sincere thanks to Lugo, Gustavo & Contoy. Read more Written January 11, 2024

Having stayed in Cancun for a 10 day trip enjoying the shoreside bird life on casual morning walks, I yearned to experience more of the countries woodland species and found the Full-Day Birdwatching Puerto Morelos tour on line. Travelling from Cancun to the region with Carlos, it soon became apparent of his love of birdwatching and a very knowledge of the birds of Mexico. We talked “birding” constantly for the duration. Once arrived and meeting up with two more, we were up and running with 64 species seen in a four hour period. At times there was so much happening it was a really full on jumping from one species to another. The skill Carlos showed on locating and identifying various species was second to none. Some were so small but his ability to identify quickly was very impressive. If you want a taster of some of the beautiful birds of Mexico, you can’t go wrong with this trip. Can you swim with Whale Sharks in Playa del Carmen?

No, you can’t swim with whale sharks in Playa del Carmen. But you can easily take a whale shark tour from Playa del Carmen to visit Isla Mujeres .

The Whale Sharks in Mexico actually don’t come to Playa del Carmen , they are off the coast of an island close to Cancun called Isla Mujeres. You can also find the whale sharks close to Isla Holbox which is another island north of Cancun .

It’s the bull sharks who visit Playa del Carmen, not the whale sharks.

You can easily take a whale shark tour from Playa del Carmen , Tulum , Cancun , Puerto Morelos , or anywhere else in the Riviera Maya . The tour company will simply pick you up from your hotel and bring you to the marina in Cancun where you will then get on a boat to make the short trip over to where the whale sharks are.

It is also possible to do a Whale Shark tour from Isla Holbox , but that requires you to stay for at least 1 night on the island (if you decide to do that check out these Holbox hotels ) and it’s a little more complicated than going from the mainland.

The official Whale Shark season dates are set by MRMP (Biosphere Reserve Management Program).

You may see other dates advertised, but these are dates set by tour companies. Most don’t start running tours until June just in case the whale sharks are late arriving. This saves upsetting customers by having to cancel their tours or taking people out on a tour and not seeing any whale sharks.

If you are planning on visiting Mexico just to see the whale sharks, then I’d plan to go sometime in June, July, or August to be on the safe side.

Whale Shark Tours Playa Del Carmen

Where is the best place to swim with whale sharks in Mexico?

In the Riviera Maya , you can swim with whale sharks in two locations:

  • Off the coast of Isla Holbox
  • Off the coast of Isla Mujeres

Unless you are planning to visit Holbox for a few days it isn’t an option to do a whale shark tour from Playa del Carmen to Holbox, it is just too far away.

The only option for a whale shark tour from Playa del Carmen is to visit Isla Mujeres as you can easily do it in a day.

You can also swim with whale sharks in Cabo San Lucas, La Paz, and Baja California from November through until mid-May each year (basically when they aren’t in the Riviera Maya ).

Whale Shark Diving?

This is a question that many people ask, can you scuba dive with whale sharks in Playa del Carmen? The answer is no.

In Mexico, you are not allowed to dive with whale sharks.  There are other places in the world where you can, just not in Mexico.

Things to be aware of before swimming with whale sharks in Mexico

There are many things you need to be aware of before swimming with whale sharks. I have put a few bullet points below:

  • No touching
  • No sunscreen
  • Listen to the guide

The big one really is to listen to the guides. They will give you a briefing on the transport on your way to Cancun , then again in the boat on your way to finding the whale sharks.

Listen to them, they are there to keep you, and the whale sharks, safe and happy.

Sunscreen is a big no-no as it can be harmful to the whale sharks, yes even your reef-safe stuff. Instead, it’s better to invest in a good rashguard and hat so you can cover up from the sun as much as possible.

Then after you have finished swimming with the whale sharks you can smother yourself in all the sunblock you like.

Choosing the right tour company

The Whale Sharks are a protected species , as are the waters they migrate to in Mexico . So one of the main reasons I didn’t write about my Whale Shark experience in Holbox was that I just didn’t know enough about the ethics of the whole thing to be about to recommend anyone to do the tour with. The company I did the tour with were ok, they did nothing wrong, but it could have been better.

I asked to borrow a GoPro to take some video to make a vlog and pictures as mine was broken – they ran out and didn’t tell me until that morning so there was nothing I could do. So the guide told me he would take some for me and charge me $10 USD… This was the best shot he got.

I should have just burned my $10.

If you are looking for all kinds of excursions and car rentals in Riviera Maya, take a look at what my friends from Turismo Channel have! You can check out their tours by clicking here and using the following discount codes for the best prices clairecaroff (car rental), claire10off (for 10% off group tours), claireprivate (for a discount on private tours).

Swimming with Whale Sharks on Holbox

Feeling Rushed

Then on the tour itself, everything just felt so rushed. Now that is partly because of the rules in place to protect the Whale Sharks but some companies handle this better than others. We arrived late and there were already a lot of other boats there. We were then put in pairs and each pair gets 2 chances to snorkel with the Whale Sharks. The guide shouted now, I jumped in, swam for what felt like 10 seconds, and then told to get out.

Then we went to another crowded place and snorkeled while the captain made lunch. Now I don’t mean to be negative, because the whole experience of getting to swim with whale sharks in Mexico was unbelievable, and as I said before, it is one of the best things I’ve ever done. I just expected better service from the tour company.

Cost of a Whale Shark Tour

Whale Shark tours aren’t cheap I paid around $120 USD which is on the cheaper side as I know of companies who charge $330 for the same group tour.

Now I’m all for saving a few bucks, I’m much more of a hostel and public bus kinda gal, but if I could go back and do this again, I’d book the $330 tour.

Why? Because the experience I had on the $120 tour was pretty crappy when I compare it to the experience I had on the one that cost $330.

This is a once in a lifetime experience. It’s not something you scrimp on2

Living Dreams Mexico

Fast forward to now and having lived in Mexico  for some time now I can speak with much more authority when making recommendations.

There is only one company that I recommend to book the Whale Shark tour from Playa del Carmen with and that is Living Dreams Mexico .

I know one of the owners personally. He is the guy rallying people to clean up the beaches in Playa, making huge steps to become a plastic-free company, and constantly speaking out against animal cruelty.

With them it is all in the detail – professional photos are included, as are snacks, and drinks. These guys even give you a blanket and cushion in the minibus!

Many companies give you one price and then like to add on extra for things like life jackets, wet suits, and photos.

They don’t do that… the price you see here is the price you pay .  ALL extras included. The professional photos / videos they include are valued at $100 USD. It doesn’t take a maths genius to see this is a pretty sweet deal!

Whale Shark Tours Playa Del Carmen

What’s Included in the Tour

The whale shark tour includes pickup from your hotel or apartment in Playa (they can also pick up in Tulum , Puerto Morelos , and other places if you ask) and transport you to Cancun . From there you will be met by the boat and begin your short ride to Isla Mujeres. You will be provided with a wet suit (optional, [easyazon_link identifier=”B077625VKL” locale=”US” tag=”clairesummers-20″]I took my own[/easyazon_link]), a life vest (mandatory), and snorkeling equipment (again I took my own). Onboard you will be offered soft drinks all included in the price.

Once your whale shark swimming experience is over it’s time for lunch! This was so much fun. Lunch was freshly prepared ceviche and tostadas served on a surfboard in the beautiful turquoise waters of Isla Mujeres.

Ready to book your whale shark tour?

I recommend doing the whale shark tour with Living Dreams Mexico. They are the most ethical and awesome company around and it’s a flat fee, no hidden costs. Photos included.

You can make an inquiry simply by adding your name and email address in the form below and someone will be in touch with you within 24 hours.

The Pictures

The best bit, for me, is the pictures. They will take pictures and videos of you so you don’t need to and you can just enjoy the experience. Now, I know it’s not all about the photos, it’s the memories that are important. But I must admit I still feel a bit gutted about not having any photos and I would have gladly paid $100 USD for a photographer .

QUICK TIP: Book your tours, rental cars, and transfers through my local contacts I’ve been working with  Living Dreams Mexico  for years and they are who I send all my family and friends to when they visit the Riviera Maya. I really can recommend them enough for private tours and experiences. They have solid 5* reviews on Trip Advisor and Google from almost 4000 reviewers! You can view all their tours here. If you’re looking for private airport transfers and rental cars then Vanessa and Oliver from  Turismo Channel  are personal friends of mine and I can 100% recommend them to make an inquiry  click here and complete the form . Someone will be in touch within 24 hours.

Whale Shark Tours Playa del Carmen Final Thoughts

If you are thinking of doing the whale shark tour from Playa del Carmen , Cancun , or Tulum then my biggest piece of advice is to do your research first.

Ask questions, find out what is included, how many people will be on your boat, how long you will get to swim with them, etc. Then check reviews and make sure everything the company has told you checks out. Don’t just book the cheapest tour and hope for the best. This is a once in a lifetime experience and you do not want to just book any old tour and hope for the best.

If you book this whale Shark Tour with Living Dreams please mention my name when booking so they know where you learned about them.

Sunday 7th of July 2019

We are visiting PDC at the end on July with 2 teenagers. We'd like to do the whaleshark trip. Do we need to book before we leave or is there usually availability? I don't wnat to arrive to find there's no availibility for the next 3 weeks :( . We are staying in an apartment outside of the main resort. Do you have any tips? We'd like to see the natural and historical sights. Thanks xx

Claire Summers

Hi, Mandie, I'm sure you will have an amazing time! I'd recommend booking as soon as you arrive to make sure you get the date you want. The boats do get full sometimes. I have information on my blog on Chichen Itza, Tulum, and Coba which are all ruins that I love. But there is also Myulli and Sian Ka'an, Cenotes, Scuba diving, and zip lining in Puerto Morelos. So many things! Head over to Kay.tours and take a look at their blog. I write for them sometimes and there are lots of top things to do posts there. All written by local people (not just bloggers who went on vacation for a week ;-). Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions.

More About Swimming with Whale Sharks

If you’re like me, you might be feeling a little nervous about an open water shark encounter experience.

In fact, I was a little apprehensive about going on the Playa del Carmen whale shark tour myself before I really knew anything about whale sharks.

Although it sounded exciting, my mind immediately flashed to the gory shark scenes from Jaws, Soul Surfer, The Shallows, etc. Not sure I could handle that!

But then I quickly discovered that whale sharks are not actually as terrifying as one might think!

Even though they are considered to be the largest fish species, they are actually considered “gentle giants”.

So here’s a few of the basics on whale sharks that helped to ease my fears. Trust me they aren’t as scary as you think!

What are whale sharks?

Whale sharks are the largest fish species and contrary to its name, they are not actually whales but are classified as sharks.  They are not predatory in nature and are considered to be “gentle giants”.

Whale sharks are gigantic in size with lengths ranging from 18-33 feet long and weighing up to 41,000 pounds. That’s comparable to the size of a school bus. Woah!

Whale sharks are covered in white spots and each shark has their own unique spot pattern, similar to human fingerprints.

Whale Shark in Isla Mujeres

What do whale sharks eat?

Even though a whale shark’s mouth can be up to 5 feet wide and have over 300 teeth, they are filter feeders and primarily feed just on plankton and small fish. They migrate to tropical areas of the world that are rich in plankton.

Their throats are only about the size of a quarter so it would be physically impossible for them to swallow a human.

Whale Shark in Isla Mujeres

Is it safe to swim with whale sharks?

Yes, swimming with whale sharks is generally considered safe when conducted under responsible and regulated conditions.

Whale sharks are known for their gentle nature and non-aggressive behavior towards humans.

However, it is important to follow guidelines provided by experienced tour operators and local authorities to ensure the safety of both participants and the whale sharks themselves.

These guidelines usually include maintaining a respectful distance from the animals, avoiding touching or chasing them, and refraining from using flash photography or loud noises that may disturb them.

Additionally, it is crucial to be a competent swimmer and have a basic understanding of snorkeling techniques.

By adhering to these guidelines and respecting the natural behavior of the whale sharks, swimming with these majestic creatures can be a safe and unforgettable experience.

Whale Shark Tour Experience

Here’s what to expect during each stop on the whale shark tour itinerary:

Pickup in Playa del Carmen

The whale shark excursion from Playa del Carmen begins with a very early pickup around 6:30 AM from your hotel or designated meeting point.

It’s an early start so you definitely don’t want to go out drinking the night before!

Your pickup vehicle will vary depending on how many people are coming from Playa del Carmen but we were picked up in a comfortable sedan.

Stop 1: Punta Sam Marina Cancun

It takes about an hour to drive from Playa del Carmen to Cancun so I would recommend bringing some coffee along for the ride or it’s a great time to go back to sleep if you are able!

Once you arrive to the marina, you’ll be treated to a light continental breakfast that includes coffee cake, fruit, sandwiches, and juice.

You’ll wait for the other tour goers to arrive and then everyone will board the speed boat to Isla Mujeres.

Group sizes will vary depending on the day but are capped at around 10 people for a small group experience.

As you board the boat, you’ll be greeted by two tour guides and the boat captain who will quickly outfit everyone with life jackets, flippers, and snorkeling masks.

Punta Sam Marina Cancun, First stop on the Playa del Carmen Whale Sharks Tour

Stop 2: Offshore Isla Mujeres

From the Punta Sam Marina in Cancun you’ll head over to the island of Isla Mujeres, which takes less than 30 minutes and is a stunning ride through crystal clear turquoise water.

Rules for Swimming with Whale Sharks

During the boat ride, the tour guides will explain the guidelines and process for swimming with whale sharks.

Basically it is a “search and find” type mission as they never know where the sharks will be that day.  They also explained some important rules:

  • Touching the whale sharks is prohibited
  • The group will be divided into pairs and only 2 snorkelers will be allowed in the water at a time
  • Regular sunscreen is prohibited – only reef-safe biodegradable sunscreen is allowed

Turquoise Water near Isla Mujeres Mexico

Whale Sharks Drop Zone

Once we arrived to the whale shark area, we could see dorsal fins protruding out of the water almost everywhere we looked.

I’m talking 60-70 whale sharks in sight and that was just in the area where our boat had stopped. Not all tours will get to see this many whale sharks but we were very lucky that day!

Whale Shark on an Isla Mujeres Whale Shark Snorkeling Tour

On top of seeing whale sharks, you might get to see other sea creatures as well.  On our tour, the guides kept yelling, “Manta, Manta!” where we would spin around to find giant manta rays gliding through the water.

Wait a minute, had I really willingly signed up to jump into these heavily shark invested waters?!  Too late now!

Whale Shark on an Isla Mujeres Whale Shark Snorkeling Tour

The tour guides were excellent at explaining exactly what we needed to do.  The group is divided into pairs and only two snorkelers plus one tour guide are allowed in the water at a time.

Once it’s your turn, you will be instructed to sit on the side of the boat with your feet dangling off the edge.

Then the captain precisely positions the boat at just the right spot next to a whale shark and then you wait to hear the guides say “Jump!”.

Whale Shark Snorkeling Experience

After you jump into the water, the tour guide will lead you and your partner in the right direction towards the whale shark.

You’ll get to snorkel at the surface of the water within just a few feet of the sharks.

At first sight underwater, the whale shark was truly a magnificent creature to observe–they are just as massive as they look in the pictures!

It was so cool to see these ginormous creatures up close and personal and see their unique spot patterns along with their massive gaping mouth with thousands of tiny teeth.

Snorkeling with Whale Sharks Playa del Carmen Tour

You definitely have to turn off your tunnel vision and be mindful of your surroundings so as to not accidentally touch or kick one of the whale sharks with your flippers.

Just as I was getting comfortable in the water, I turned around to see 2-3 more whale sharks in close proximity. It’s prohibited to touch the whale sharks so it is important to be extra cautious on every dive.

After a few minutes in the water, your guide will pull you back towards the boat. After that, the tour group will take turns jumping in the water.

The number of times you get to jump will depend on the group size, but we got to jump 3 times each. On our last jump, we got to swim along a giant manta ray as well. ¡Que padre!

Whale Shark Tour Playa del Carmen

Stop 3: Isla Mujeres Playa Norte

After the excitement and exhilaration of swimming alongside the whale sharks, you’ll head closer to the shore of Isla Mujeres and anchor at Playa Norte , which is one of the best beaches in Riviera Maya .

Once there, you’ll get to relax and enjoy a leisurely lunch of freshly made ceviche, guacamole, and cold beverages.

Our group had a lot of fun laughing and joking about our whale shark encounters–it will get your adrenaline pumping!

Isla Mujeres Playa Norte

Stop 4: Punta Sam Marina Cancun

After about an hour at Playa Norte, you’ll head back on the boat to the Punta Sam Marina in Cancun.

After getting off the boat, your ground transportation will be waiting to take you back to Playa del Carmen.

Don’t forget to tip your tour guides before you leave!

What to Wear on the Playa del Carmen Whale Sharks Tour

Here’s what I recommend wearing on the whale shark excursion from Playa del Carmen:

  • One-Piece Swimsuit: For most of the tour you will be in the water so you’ll definitely need to wear a swimsuit. I always prefer to wear a one-piece swimsuit when going on snorkeling tours since they provide more coverage and less hassle with the life vests and snorkeling equipment.
  • Swimsuit coverup: Wear a coverup or shorts and a tank top over your swimsuit to be comfortable on the car ride to Cancun.
  • Waterproof sandals or flip flops: Wear comfortable sandals or flip flops that you don’t mind getting wet. You’ll remove them as soon as you get on the boat.
  • Sun Hat: If you want to bring a hat, make sure to wear one with a wind lanyard or that fits securely on your head as it can easily blow off when you’re traveling by boat.

Whale Shark in Isla Mujeres Mexico

What to Bring on the Playa del Carmen Whale Shark Tour

Here are a few essential items I would recommend bringing on Playa del Carmen whale shark tours:

  • Biodegradable Sunscreen: Be sure to wear biodegradable sunscreen as regular sunscreen is prohibited on the tour as it is damaging to the coral reefs and marine eco-systems.
  • Beach Towel: You’ll definitely want to bring a towel to dry off after snorkeling. These microfiber beach towels are great as they are lightweight and dry quickly.
  • GoPro or waterproof camera: Be sure to bring a GoPro (or the less expensive AKASO Brave ) waterproof camera to capture your whale shark experience. And be sure to bring a floating hand grip , as well as backup batteries. I was using my GoPro so much that my batteries drained pretty quickly!
  • Rash Guard: It’s also a good idea to bring a rash guard which provides sun protection without the need for sunscreen. And it’s actually better for the environment if you don’t wear any sunscreen at all.
  • Change of Clothes: Definitely bring a change of clothes to change into after the tour so you’re not stuck in a wet swimsuit for the return trip back to Playa del Carmen.
  • Cash for tips: I would also recommend bringing some extra cash to tip the tour guides at the end of the tour. This is something I often forget and then feel terrible at the end of an amazing tour experience.
