My daughter aged 14 just came back from a 19 days California trip with AT and truly loved her experience which was physically challenging (and she is a very outdoor kid used to camping and hiking) and socially fulfilling. The instructors were very competent she says and the kids grew into a respectful and fun community. She learned great outdoor skills, while savoring the beauties of the landscape surrounding her in many fun well organized activities. She came back stronger in all aspects. We registered her very last minute and all went smoothly. We had great communication with the instructors while the trip was taking place, photos and some detailed description of some days. They insisted a lot about the kids being disconnected during the trip which for me was a little excessive as our daughter is not that connected anyway. Our daughter is already planning her next summer:) with AT and I am very proud that she really likes to push herself well outside of her confort zone. AT is for me a great chance and from now on, I will consider it for all my kids.!

This experience exceed all of our expectations. The trip was transformative. In some part because of the activity, but mostly because of the relationships and community our son formed. We highly recommend AT!

My only regret is that I didn't find Adventure Treks sooner. My almost 16 year old daughter went on the 24 day Ultimate Northwest Trip this summer. She already has the next 3 years mapped out as to which trips she wants to take. With this being her first year we were both a bit apprehensive as the trip got closer. The idea of not being able to talk to her each night seemed impossible and I really had to push my feelings to the side to have the right attitude for her. The day after she flew out I was on my way home from work and I expected to feel depressed but instead I felt a sense of well being and I realized that it was because I felt really good about being able to give her this opportunity. This feeling was reinforced when she called me after her first backpack and her first breathless words were "I am having the greatest time of my life". It made me feel so good to know she was so happy. Since this was her first year we had a lot of questions about what to expect and about how to buy the right gear. Each time I called the AT office I spoke to someone who had detailed knowledge of the trip she was about to go on. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and willing to talk about everything, even the uncomfortable subjects. While she was on the trip we did receive updates. On one hand it wasn't enough in my opinion, I really thirsted for more pictures, more details on what they were up to. On the other hand after talking to my daughter and understanding how constantly on the move & busy the group was I am happy that the leaders spent the time with my daughter instead of posting updates. My daughter came back a new person. Confident. Happy. She immediately began planning a reunion with the other kids who live in Cali. Their friendships are so strong, it's like she has a whole new set of best-friend-cousins. These kids really care about each other. Before the trip she was having a hard time trusting other kids due to some High School drama issues. I am so glad she met these wonderful people. We have been talking about camp non stop for 5 days since she got off the plane and she still has amazing stories to tell! I think my daughters entire future has been enhanced by this experience. For us the camp is definitely expensive. We will save all year long to pay for next years trip and it is 100% worth it.

My son has been on 3 trips so far and is hankering to return next year! This year was a little different because a couple of the kids were more suited to Camp SmartMouth as opposed to the normally fabulous AT type kids that are usually on trips. However, the atmosphere and caliber of counselors still made it great for my boy. Great lessons always learned in great surroundings, mostly just great fun!

There is not a thing I would change about this camp! Both of my sons have attended for the last four summers and each year they choose a different (and more challenging) adventure. Every year when my kids return from a summer at AT, they are better versions of themselves- it's as if they have been reset and refreshed. You see more life in their eyes, they are more alive. I love that AT is challenging and REAL. In this day and age of virtual everything, it's so important to spend time in the real world. Sometimes it's cold, sometimes there are bugs, sometimes you try something but it doesn't work out (like reaching a mountain summit), sometimes it's raining- but that is nature and that is life and that is real! My kids are exposed to doing things they just can't do where we live. They hike for days, they kayak for days, they do things that require endurance and they learn that the effort is worth the reward. My son told me that when he saw the sunrise from the top of Mt. Adams after he had spent an entire day and night climbing (and wanted to quit several times!) it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. They learn who they are and they learn to accept others. They learn how to rely on people and how to be someone who can be relied upon. Both my sons have made lifelong friends at AT who are from around the world and they look forward to seeing each other every summer on their new adventure. My son already has the next two years of AT trips planned out so, yes, he definitely LOVES it and so do we.

My 14 year old son spent an amazing summer with AT in British Columbia. He absolutely loved every second of it and is already figuring out which trip he will do next year. As a parent I always felt completely confident that my son was in great hands. Everything was so well organized and communications before and during the trip were super. He returned from his adventure in top shape, with much more self confidence and showing more interest in everyone's life. Great program & he will be back!

Our sons have participated in 5 Adventure Treks summer programs, with more to come! Always a great adventure and summer of growth, in so many ways! Blue Ridge MT experience, CA Challenge, Ultimate Northwest, Alaska Challenge x 2 California Challenge 2019 exceeded expectations. It was our 15 year old son's first AT experience. He loved every aspect of this trip, especially the first backpack and its spectacular views and opportunity for long conversations and getting the pulse of the group. Knowledgeable, experienced, skilled, and fun trip leaders (not college kids - these are highly skilled, educated mountaineers, outdoorsmen and outdoorswomen; some are professors - inspire sense of community, shared responsibilities, and camaraderie - while reinforcing respect one another and for environment, practicing LNT (Leave No Trace). Unplugged - no electronics; and no one misses that! Staff has contact, as well as ample training in Wilderness First Aid. Comprehensive, yet concise packing list makes planning easy; top of line equipment is provided and included. No "a la carte" add-on fees. Great investment in your child! Opportunity for long-lasting, coed friendships with young people from all over the world We have seen such growth and confidence and increased love of the outdoors in both our sons as a result of their wonderful experiences at Adventure Treks. We've never had a moment's worry or lost a night of sleep while our kids have been at Camp Pinnacle or Adventure Treks. We can't thank you enough for your efforts, at all levels. From the logistics/planning/support team headquartered in NC to trip leaders, everything is seamless; we appreciate it! The Dockendorf Family, Dave McGlashan, Dmac, Amanda, Fayssoux et al - you are the BEST!

My son participated in an adventure trek trip in 2010. And he has signed on for another trip this summer -2011. What he liked about last years trip included: #1 Rock Climbing then: Sea Kayaking, White water rafting, Back backing, story telling, hunting for the mount shasta pineapple, and making a lot of new friends from around the country. What I liked was the positive impact it had on my sons life including: appreciation for nature, increased independence, confidence, self-esteem, self-efficacy, personal effectiveness and coping strategies and increased communication skills and teamwork. Bravo to the leadership team. especially BT.

Adventure Treks is an amazing program. My daughter has attended for the last three years: Pacific Northwest for 16 days, Canadian Rockies (now called British Columbia) for 21 days and this year, California Challenge for 28 days. Each year was better than the previous and exceeded expectations along every parameter. The wilderness backpacks were challenging, empowering and included awe-inspiring scenery. White water rafting was invigorating and skill-building. Rock climbing with trek-mates cheering you upward and congratulating you on your achievement is a great esteem builder. My daughter is exuberant about the mountains she has climbed and proudly recalls her summiting days. To stand on the summit of Mt. Saint Helens or Mt. Shasta, Mt. Outram or Mt. Frosty and realize that you got there through your own effort, in the company of your new friends is an authentic achievement. The staff that accompany the wilderness treks are all certified Wilderness First Responders. Safety is their most important goal. In addition, the Adventure Treks leaders are tremendously experienced, compassionate and inspiring young adults with valuable wilderness wisdom that makes each trip safe, fun, and a real learning experience. My daughter has always reported that the Adventure Treks staff are companionable, encouraging and that they foster independence and responsibility. A great deal of effort is put into creating a community within the trekking group. My daughter really bonds with the kids she meets at Adventure Treks and misses them all year long. They keep in touch and have formed long-lasting, meaningful and supportive friendships. Adventure Treks is not for troubled youth. An individual who is bent on causing trouble or who will not take direction has no place in the wilderness with this program. This gives me a great deal of comfort trusting that my child's safety relies on the reliability of not only the staff and my daughter's own sound judgment, but also on her trekking companions. Every effort is made to provide plenty of food and snacks that are tasty, fresh and nutritious. We have NEVER had a single aspect of any part of a trek cancelled. These folks are the real deal! Very little in life is as reliable, well thought out and planned for as Adventure Treks trips are. The camp director, Doc, joins every trek for a day or more and gets to know each kid. It is clear that sharing the wilderness, teaching wilderness safety and instilling respect for the natural world while having fun is the highest priority for Doc. Adventure Treks is worth every penny it costs. I'm tremendously grateful for the confidence, mental toughness and plain good times my child has gained these last three summers.

This camp is incredible- the staff are friendly and welcoming, not to mention skilled, talented and resourceful. They made light of every situation and knew just what to do. And all of the activities were great! I did things I never thought I'd be capable of, and found new hobbies and interests that I took home with me. Everywhere we went, the views were breathtaking. To be able to spend time in beautiful places with great people made summer the best time of the year.

Nepal, get ready because this is a country full of places and experiences ready to surprise you.

This is my first trip to Nepal. I am a frequent traveler but I confess that I underestimated Nepal for not being a highly advertised country in Italy. If you are thinking of visiting Nepal, get ready because this is a country full of places and experiences ready to surprise you. You will see continuous contrasts of landscapes, biodiversity, altitude and temperature at small distances. You will get in touch with a multicultural, multi-religious and multilingual society. Every village you go to, the people are completely different, it seems like you're in another country. All within a distance of 150 km, resulting in climate conditions ranging from subtropical to Arctic. Nepal is a incredible country. I am amazed! For me, one of the richest countries in the world in terms of biodiversity thanks to its particular geographical position and variation in altitude. It's not easy to express how I felt as I walked through the pulsating life of this place. My experience was exceptional from the moment I set foot in the airport until the day I left. Nepal is a suggestive place but so much of what this trip has given me, is thanks to Hiking Adventure Treks team: Ram, Bishnu and Nima that made me see, feel and experience the place in an absolutely unique way. Ram is a special person, I felt welcomed, the feeling from the first minute was as if I were returning home. He made me deeply delve into the culture, customs, traditions, culinary and lifestyle of the place bringing me into contact with the local people. The most enriching cultural exchange of all. Our drive from Katmandu to Lumbini was memorable. Bishnu and Nima accompanied me to enter the mysteries of the mountain in a trek path that embraced a harmonious blend of nature, culture and adventure. An indelible experience from a physical, mental and emotional point of view. If you are thinking of going to Nepal for a trekking experience, I recommend that you do it with Bishnu and Nima, they have a vast knowledge of the place and the right amount of passion for the mountains that will make you live a special experience. Now already on Italian land; how to explain this sorrow that I was unable to stay longer in Nepal; this overwhelming nostalgia for the mountain … … I'll be back soon! Thanks to Hiking Adventure Treks team.

Hiking Adventure Treks

Ram and team from Hiking Adventure Treks did a fantastic job of organizing our recent trip to Nepal. From arrival at the airport to departure day everything went smoothly. We spent 8 days hiking from Lukla to Gokyo Lakes and back. This was an amazing experience and the guide and porter both did a fantastic job. We also had the opportunity to visit some local schools - as part of a charity initiative - and Chitwan National Park. Thanks very much to Hiking Adventure Treks for arranging everything and making our trip so eventful and memorable. Tom M Australia

Gokyo Ri hiking adventure

We recently just finished the Gokyo Ri trek - organised through Hiking Adventure. This is the third Nepal trek I’ve done through Ram and again it was excellent ! Ram is dependable, responsive as was our guide Lok on the mountain. Ram was quick to help us change our itinerary once we had finished our trek. I would definitely recommend Hiking Adventure. As an added bonus - Ram organised a visit to some of remote schools in the hills outside Kathmandu- where we were able to help distribute some equipment. Was a great day!

Epic Trek through Everest High Passes

Hiking Adventure Treks organized the Everest High Passes Trek for me. The trek goes through monumental landmarks of the Sagarmatha National Park, such as EBC, Kala Patthar, Gokyio Ri, Tengboche and the Three High Passess. The communication and contact with Sajana and Ram of Hiking Adventure Treks were fast and efficient. They made sure that the trip was exactly adapted to my travel preferences. The guide and porter, Santosh and Hira, were amazing. They made sure that I felt safe and comfortable during the trek. This was the second time I travelled with Hiking Adventure Treks. They exceeded my expectations again, in organizing one of the most beautiful treks in my life. A big thank you to the team!

I love Hiking Adventure

I have travelled twice with Sajana and Ram's company and I just can say my experience has been great both times. They always take care of everything so you just have to enjoy your trip with no worries. Their mountain guides are also great and very professional. And if some problems appear (like bad weather conditions) they find a way to solve it or change one good plan for another, even better. As soon as I can, I'll go to Annapurna, and I'll go with them, no doubt about it!

Hiking Adventure excellent for Annapurna Trekking

As per the recommendation from friend we went to Nepal from U.K. through Hiking Adventure. It was one of the best experience we have ever had. We enjoyed ourselves a lot and had a great time, more then what we had anticipated. We embarked on our journey by going on a short Annapurna hike within Pokhara tour. We were provided with one of the best and friendly guide KB. He shared different stories along the hike trail which made our journey more special. By enjoying mesmerizing natural beauty alongside kb added with his beautiful and adventurous story we reached our destination with ease. Thank you Hiking Adventure for making one of the best memory of my life I would highly recommend Hiking Adventure to anyone visiting Nepal .

Upper Mustang Trek - Hiking Adventure Treks

Upper Mustang Trek, Lifetime Experience with Hiking Adventure Treks Had a great time in Nepal again with Hiking Adventure Especially Ram. The last time I trekked to Everest Base Camp was the best trip. Back again in Nepal this year and it was even more epic adventure; I did Upper Mustang Trek this time and I absolutely enjoyed every day throughout the trekking. It took days to reach there and it was worth it for the views . My guide provided every details of the place and that even added to the beauty of the trek.

Everest Base Camp Trekking with Hiking Adventure

I did Everest Base Camp with Hiking Adventure. They made every possible effort in making it the best trip of my life. I would like to recommend Hiking Adventure to anyone visiting Nepal and looking to know the country from close. They have super guides who take great care of you in the mountains. My guide KB was very knowledgeable and he was always ready to assist me with my needs. He shared many stories with me due to which our tedious walks also seemed easy. He told me about the culture of the mountain people. I was given a farewell dinner by Ram in Kathmandu and we talked about my experience in Nepal. I must say he is very generous and cautious to give wonderful service to all his guests. We had some of his other guests also in the dinner and they also shared their experience with me. I will surely return and travel again with Hiking Adventure.

I had a great experience in Nepal.

I had a great experience in Nepal.. thanks to Mr. Ram. Thank to him for my trip in Goshaikund trek in Langtang Himalayas. That was one of my best trek in Himalayas. Goshaikund, high altitude himalayan Lake, makes you to know the core of Hinduism and Buddhism at the same time. I am so much thankful to Mr. Ram for providing me one of the best experiences of my life.

Very professional agency with a personal touch

I know Ram and Sajana for already 3 years, they showed themselves as very professional team with a friendly attitude to each customer. They helped us a lot with the organization of transportation in Nepal, booking amazing safari experience in Chitwan and were always eager to help when we needed their assistance. Last summer they helped us a lot with shooting a Russian TV program in Nepal, and they undertook preparation of all the shooting permits (which was extremely difficult, and finally were successful with it!) and also helped us to find amazing locations for shooting. It was a lot of work and I’m very thankful for their dedication. Highly recommend this company for your nepal travel experience! They are truly amazing!

Best agency in Nepal

It was my third trip with Hiking Adventure. Like all other times, they left no stone unturned in making the trip memorable for our group. Starting from the arrival in Nepal till the end of our trip, every single thing was handled with a great care. Ram and Sajana are very friendly and gentle. Best Journey of my life- Everest Base Camp trek

I feel happy to be writing here about my experience with Hiking Adventure Treks. I was recommended this company by a friend. Right from the planning of the trip to the end, everything met my expectations. Going to the Everest Base Camp was one of the biggest dreams of my life. I started talking to Ram from the company after my friend passed on his details. From the start, he helped me alot with understanding what to expect in the mountains and how to get myself prepared. I was given a warm welcome during my arrival by our guide KB. I met the other group members the same day and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at an authentic Nepali restaurant with cultural dance. On the second day, we did some Kathmandu sightseeing. We visited the monkey temple and some famous sites in Kathmandu. On the third day, we flew to Lukla from where we started our walk. We had favorable weather during the whole trip. Our guide was very nice and helpful. The group members were very friendly. The porters we had were also very generous. Our journey was tough but the mountain views were very rewarding. We did the hike to Kalapatthar too early morning. In overall, I can say that Hiking Adventure Treks have very professional team. They know how to answer the queries of the travelers and how to take care of them. Will surely travel with them again.

A friendly team offered a tailor-made experience

Last October a friend of mine and I had the opportunity to travel to Nepal after months of planning it with Gabriel Baicus. We changed our programme several times and he was very patient and helpful until we agreed on an itinerary. When we arrived in Katmandu, Ram and Sajana made every effort to make our stay safe and enjoyable. Our kind guide, Bishnu, took us to Khumbu region where we could admire the beauty of the high peaks and get in touch with the Sherpa community. After that, our outgoing guide Devendra accompanied us to walk around 100 km up to Mannag in the Annapurnas region. During the whole month we spent there, our guides took good care of us, taught us lots of things about the mountains and its people. Hiking Adventure allowed us to make changes in our itinerary when we needed to have a rest or one of us wanted to go further up the mountains. They respected our individual needs. They also took into account our needs as regards food (One of us is vegetarian). They gave us good advice on everything. People in Nepal are very friendly. We still keep in touch with Gabriel, Sajana, Ram and the guides and we are saving money to go back in 2022. Don't hesitate to contact them, even if you are not planning to travel in the near future or even if you are a solo traveller. They will be delighted to help you and you'll never be alone or feel lonely! Leticia Chamillard, Ushuaia, Argentina

My friend and I visited Nepal for our first time in April. A friend recommended Hiking Adventure Treks and I’m so glad we followed the recommendation. Communication was excellent- Sajana was quick to respond to all of our questions. Our hotel in Thamel was perfect. Our guide Santu and our porter Sajun were fabulous. They were a great team and looked after us so well. I can’t wait to go back and will definitely go through Hiking Adventure Treks again.

Hiking Adventure organized a trip to Pikey Peak Everest Trek for 8 of us. They took care of all the logistics from the time we arrived at the Tribhuvan International Airport until we left. We had a good and enjoyable trip thanks to their friendly, accommodating, and responsive service. Communication is not any issue as all crew members speak English.

In August/September of 2023 my family went to Nepal. This trip was originally planned for 2021. Because of Covid, we had to postpone the trip until this year. Sajana and Hiking Adventure Treks stuck with us for two years until we were able to make it happen! We are experienced world travelers, but Nepal is not an easy place to navigate. We cannot express our gratitude for Sajana and the support she provided in planning the trip AND the support we received while in Nepal. We learned that travel in Nepal requires flexibility and Sajana was with us every step of the way. She was always responsive and ready to help and advise. We always felt like we had a friend in Nepal just in case something happened. We LOVE Sajana. Our trek with KB was unforgettable. Nepal was amazing!! Sajana and Hiking Adventure Treks will forever be in our memories of this incredible trip.

Very happy with the agency management. Sajana did introduce us and received very well.

When I have questions, Ram always fast response and efficiency. Even after my trek, we are still contacting each others as we are not only one time business, we become friends. Also, I would like to take this opportunity to thanks my guide ‘Lok’, he always next to me and show patience during the trek, followed my pace and always encouraged me. And thanks him for taking care of me when I experienced high altitude sickness. Without him, I don't think I can successfully complete this trek. Star Trek: Discovery, Season 5, Episode 9: "Lagrange Point" Is Discovery's Last Classic Adventure

Star Trek: Discovery's penultimate episode, "Lagrange Point," ends the season-long race with a good, old-fashioned Star Trek space-heist.

The following contains spoilers from Star Trek: Discovery, Season 5, Episode 9, "Lagrange Point ."

Throughout Star Trek: Discovery , especially Season 5, the ship and her crew took on many of the classic missions that Gene Roddenberry's beloved universe is known for. In "Lagrange Point," directed by Star Trek legend Jonathan Frakes, the crew gets one more go-round with a familiar franchise premise. Here, they disguise themselves as aliens, sneak aboard a ship and steal nothing less than the "power of creation" itself from the Breen. With the series finale following this episode, this is likely the last time Star Trek: Discovery fans will get this sort of adventure.

All season long, the USS Discovery chased technology from the Progenitors, the alien race first revealed in Star Trek: The Next Generation 's "The Chase (Season 6, Episode 20)." These beings lived billions of years ago and "seeded" life throughout the galaxy when they took to the stars and found themselves alone. At first, this revelation was just a way for the show's creators to answer the fan quibble that most Star Trek aliens were bipedal humanoids, or human actors clearly wearing face paint and/or rubber costumes. However, Star Trek: Discovery took this idea and wove it deeper into the very fabric of Star Trek, which always argued that everyone is connected.

Meanwhile, a human woman named Moll and a Breen man named L'ak, were also after this technology. They originally planned to steal it then sell it to the highest bidder. In this case, their top client would've been the Breen Imperium. But now with L'ak dead, Moll's goals shifted from wealth to bringing her lover back to life. In this episode, she and her Breen allies beat the USS Discovery in their season-long race for Progenitors' ancient power. But after five seasons facing down multiple galaxy-wide threats, viewers should know not to count out Captain Michael Burnham and the USS Discovery crew.

"Lagrange Point's" Title Is Quite Literal

The uss discovery finds the progenitors’ prize in between black holes, star trek: discovery star reveals han solo inspiration for jett reno.

The title "Lagrange Point" is a term that identifies how an object in space can be "parked" between the gravitational forces of two large objects. In the previous episode, "Labyrinths (Season 5, Episode 8)," Captain Burnham faked the USS Discovery's destruction and jumped away from the Breen dreadnought firing on them. After repairing the damage to the ship, they made the rest of the way to the location from the clues. There, they discover that they were caught between two primordial black holes. The ship was now in the titular Lagrange Point.

The technology they've hunted over the past nine episodes was also there, hidden in a duranium shell built by the scientists who laid the trail of clues. The Progenitors parked this technology at the Lagrange Point between these two black holes. It sat here for 800 years, waiting for their worthy successors to find it and introduce this technology to a more peaceful world.

Since their proper introduction in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine , the Breen have always been technologically superior to Starfleet. Moll's ship arrives and obtained the Progenitor's object before the USS Discovery could get it and use their spore drive to jump away .

In the immediate aftermath, the crew seems defeated, but this only makes Captain Burnham that much more determined. Like every good Star Trek series lead , she doesn't know how they're going to get out of this mess; she just knows they will . After gathering her most trusted officers, the answer is simple: a space-heist like only Star Trek can do. Disguised as Breen, they have to sneak aboard the vessel and steal the technology out from under them.

Saru Returns to Starfleet Headquarters & His Fiancée T’Rina

After an extended absence, the first officer-turned-ambassador is back in action, elias toufexis calls star trek: discovery's l'ak 'a dream come true'.

Even after leaving the ship and the show in "Under the Twin Moons (Season 5, Episode 2)," Saru's career as an ambassador and his relationship with T'Rina were never forgotten. In the penultimate Star Trek: Discovery episode, everyone's favorite Kelpian returned with flowers for his fiancée.

But then he discovered that his crewmates were in dire straits and under threat from the Breen. Saru volunteered to force diplomatic relations with other Breen not affiliated with Moll, something that could result in his destruction. Thus, he and T'Rina were given an emotional scene in which they talk about their commitment to duty and each other.

Of all the ongoing love stories in Star Trek: Discovery , Saru and T'Rina got the most narrative real estate. Gray and Adira broke up in "Jinaal (Season 5, Episode 3)," and Captain Burnham and Cleveland Booker are still separated. For what it's worth, this episode at least features an aside where the two talk about their relationship status (or lack thereof).

That it happened on the Breen ship during the heist is one of those moments that will frustrate fans. Thankfully, instead of causing a problem, this ill-timed emotional discussion saved them from being caught in the corridors by the Breen shift change.

One thing Star Trek: Discovery did much better than previous Star Trek series is handling its ongoing romances. The serialized nature of the series' storytelling helps with that. Character relationships, like those between Saru and T'Rina or Paul Stamets and Hugh Culber , took center stage in certain episodes. It made for great moments where the characters professed what they meant to each other while still affirming their commitment to duty and service.

Star Trek: Discovery Gave Fans One Last Old-Fashioned High-Tech Heist

“lagrange point” tapped into a tradition of undercover starfleet missions, why michael burnham was right to violate star trek's most sacred rule.

Dressing up like aliens and sneaking onto ships or planets is a Star Trek staple. In fact, Captain Burnham did it just two episodes ago in "Whistlespeak (Season 5, Episode 6)," with Lieutenant Sylvia Tilly. Only this time, they aren't trying to avoid breaking the Prime Directive. Now, they're venturing into hostile territory. They were able to replicate Breen uniforms thanks to their conflict in the Great Eternal Gallery and Archive, where the away teams got the Iron Man treatment for their closeups inside the Breen's helmets.

The Alpha Team, Gen Rhys and Adira Tal, have to sneak onto the bridge, which turns out to be the easier of the two tasks. This gives the unsure Ensign Tal a chance to prove themselves as a capable Starfleet officer, though they were the only person they had to convince of that. The Bravo Team, Book and Captain Burnham, make their way through hallways, encountering suspicious Breen along the way.

Beyond being classic Star Trek fun, these sneaking missions allow the characters to shine. Michael again drew on her background in xenoanthropology to figure out some untranslated words from the Breen. Book caused a distraction by flirting with a Breen guard while Michael tried to take down the forcefield that blocked them from the Progentiors' technology.

Ultimately, the episode ends with Captain Burnham and Moll diving into the unknown, a perfect set up for next week's series finale. In the meantime, the crew gets to show off their Starfleet prowess, from those on the away team to those on the ship. Seeing the USS Discovery barrel towards the Breen dreadnought and into the larger hangar bay to rescue the crew and try to get the technology was one of the better action sequences of this year. Frakes's direction and the visual effects team outdid themselves with the big and small moments of "Lagrange Point."

Commander Rayer Steps up & Eventually Sits Down (In the Captain’s Chair)

After a rough start, commander rayner now has the crew’s respect and loyalty, 'she's almost died a couple times': star trek: discovery star on tilly's season 5 journey.

The show's most prominent newcomer, Commander Rayner , replaced Saru as the ship's first officer. He and Sylvia Tilly brushed up against each other early on, but this episode shows how that's changed with time. He names Tilly as his acting First Officer when Captain Burnham puts him in command of the ship. Throughout this season, he hasn't sat in the Captain's chair, at least since losing his own command.

Commander Rayner finally took the captain's hair in this episode, but only after Tilly and the crew affirmed their trust in his ability to lead. This was a beautiful payoff to Commander Rayner's season-long arc, which saw him step out of his comfort zones to win his new crew's faith in him. His plan to go into head-to-head combat with the Breen dreadnought was risky, but it was another bit of classic Star Trek action. Firing everything the ship had, the USS Discovery was almost destroyed but survives as so many ships do, on the will of her crew alone.

But now with Captain Burnham being declared MIA (Missing In Action) inside an "extra-dimensional portal," there's not much Commander Rayner, Saru or anyone in Starfleet can do to get her back. Audiences also find themselves in the same quandary and, much like USS Discovery's crew, can only hope for the best when Star Trek: Discovery returns for the last time next week.

Star Trek: Discovery's series finale will debut May 30, 2024, on Paramount+, where it will stream with the rest of the completed Star Trek series.

Star Trek: Discovery

  • Brilliant action and cinematic visual effects give the episode an epic feel.
  • Excellent use of the ensemble characters, both on the away mission and on the ship.
  • Moved the story forward while evoking a classic Star Trek scenario.
  • Saru's return bears the hallmark of storytellers stalling (or saving budget).
  • The subject of Rayner's hesitation to take the captain's chair could've been examined more.
  • Moll's disappointment in the destruction of Discovery last episode wasn't examined at all.

Anson Mount Just Beamed Up a Huge ‘Strange New Worlds’ Season 4 Update

'becoming karl lagerfeld' review: daniel brühl's hulu drama is a cut above the rest, 'eric' review: benedict cumberbatch is brilliant in jumbled netflix mystery.

Star Trek has a long and storied history of boldly going to new and glorious heights in the sci-fi genre, and Strange New Worlds Season 2 is set to do just that with the show's return. The prequel series debuted last year with a spectacular first season following Captain Christopher Pike ( Anson Mount ) and the crew of the USS Enterprise, roughly a decade before the events of The Original Series , and the first six episodes of Season 2 are even bigger and better than that strong start.

The first half of Strange New Worlds Season 2 takes full advantage of the series' episodic storytelling to offer up unique and captivating one-hour adventures. In Season 2, every episode feels like its own mini-movie, optimizing the show's streaming runtime and covering every genre from tense courtroom drama to romantic comedies through a brilliant Star Trek lens. With Strange New Worlds , no two episodes are alike in a way that allows the show to feel extremely fresh and wildly entertaining from week to week. The characters themselves are consistent, and the shifting genres and storylines allow the actors to flex their range.

Though each episode is fairly self-contained, Season 2 also does a great job of picking up the threads left dangling after Season 1 as well as some from Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery . We learn where La'an's ( Christina Chong ) journey with the little girl they rescued takes her, and Una's (Romijn) Starfleet trial is on par with classic episodes like The Next Generation 's "Measure of a Man." Spock's unruly human emotions are a running thread that leads to some incredible comedic work from Ethan Peck as well as some delightful Original Series references. While Pike missed the Klingon war, there are members of his crew who certainly did not, and it's quite compelling to see the other side of that coin. The first episode of the season also features a dedication that will no doubt conjure emotions from longtime fans.

'Strange New Worlds' Season 2 Revels in the Power of Possibility

In Season 2, the Enterprise has gained a new crew member in the form of the legendary Carol Kane . Her energy invokes classic Star Trek while simultaneously feeling like something entirely unique within the franchise. The way by which she joins the crew of the Enterprise is equal parts unexpected and delightful, as she comes in to fill the role of Chief Engineer left open after the tragic passing of Hemmer ( Bruce Horak ) in Season 1. The playfully chaotic nature she brings is a marked difference from his stoic pacifism.

In each episode she's featured in, Kane gets to play into her comedy skills opposite some of the Enterprise's most straight-laced characters including Spock, La'an, and Una. Pairing her up with these characters is brilliant, and it makes for some true television magic each time. She's completely compelling, and you can't help but fall in love with Pelia's mischievous energy immediately. Strange New Worlds weaves in a fascinating backstory for her akin to The Next Generation 's Guinan ( Whoopi Goldberg ), making her one of the best new additions to the franchise in quite some time.

Of the returning cast, Peck is certainly the strongest stand-out, as he really gets to inject an impressive amount of nuance into his performance that would make Leonard Nimoy proud. Though Vulcans are known for suppressing their emotions, Peck really digs into his younger version of Spock's human nature through triumph, heartache, and even comedy. There are also more notes of romantic tension between Spock and Chapel ( Jess Bush ) and while it's true to The Original Series , Christine's story does suffer a little from primarily being about her love interest. However, she still earns several kick-ass scenes, particularly in the first episode of the season with Doctor M'Benga ( Babs Olusanmokun ), and she never loses her agency both on her own and in regard to Spock.

Mount and Romijn's Captain/First Officer dynamic feels richer and more lived in. There's a strong sense of the shared history between their characters, and they're both able to find a balance of emotional honesty and humor in their roles as the mom and dad of the ship. Mount's performance in particular makes Pike one of the best Starfleet captains to ever grace the bridge of the Enterprise. His good-natured Boy Scout instincts are still present, but he also gets to show a propensity for darkness that proves how deliberate his choice to lead with kindness and gentility really is. Meanwhile, the revelation of Una's Illyrian heritage allows her a new level of comfort aboard the Enterprise and a new level of camaraderie with the crew — but don't worry, she's still a stickler for protocol, which allows her to bump up against Kane's Pelia in very fun ways. Celia Rose Gooding does really fantastic work with Uhura once again, embodying the classic character while adding profound new layers of depth and emotion to her backstory. There's also more great character work and history for Melissa Navia 's swashbuckling helmsman Erica Ortegas, including more of the "why" behind Ortegas' dedication to her crew.

As teased in the trailer for Season 2, there is an episode in which La'an and Kirk ( Paul Wesley ) encounter a bit of time travel, and while saying anything more would venture too deeply into spoiler territory, it is easily one of the best Star Trek episodes I've ever seen. While many fans initially voiced concerns that Wesley's Kirk would take over the series following his appearance in the Season 1 finale , Season 2 does a great job of utilizing the character in a guest capacity that complements the Strange New Worlds crew beautifully. Wesley's Kirk is a near-perfect hybrid of the Kirks that came before him, blending inspiration from William Shatner and Chris Pine while putting his own twist on the character in a way that proves he's the right pick for this role.

As far as relationship dynamics and creating a satisfying balance for the show's stacked ensemble of characters, Season 2 improves upon the groundwork laid by the first season. Each of the connections established in Season 1 comes back in ways that move these characters forward, and each episode shifts the spotlight between various members of the crew in a way that doesn't leave anyone standing in the dark. The strength of the show's cast takes center stage right from the start of Season 2, as Pike and Una are pulled away into the storyline reserved for the second episode and Spock leads the rest of the crew on an absolute thrill ride in their absence. The only drawback here is that Strange New Worlds Season 2 only clocks in at 10 episodes, which feels like an insufficient amount of time with this story and these characters.

The Enterprise Can't Go to Warp Without an Outstanding Crew

This review would be incomplete without taking a moment to praise the incredible people behind these episodes : the writers. Strange New Worlds ' episodic nature allows for a variety of writers to tell vastly different stories. Showrunners Henry Alonso Myers and Akiva Goldsman pen the premiere, which takes fans on a daring adventure that will have hearts pounding through its thrilling climax. Dana Horgan tackles the resolution to Una's fate in Starfleet in Episode 2 through a riveting courtroom drama. While I can't say much about the plot of the remaining episodes yet, David Reed who has also worked on The Magicians and The Boys , also delivers phenomenal work.

Other returning Strange New Worlds writers include Davy Perez , Bill Wolkoff , and Onitra Johnson . Johnson penned Season 1's acclaimed fairytale episode , while Perez was behind La'an's gorn backstory and Hemmer's farewell , and Wolkoff wrote some of Season 1's most tense moral quandaries. Kirsten Beyer , who has penned several beta canon Star Trek novels and comics and has writing credits on both Picard and Discovery , throws her name behind an episode, and Kathryn Lyn makes the jump from Lower Decks to inject a delightful dose of humor into Strange New Worlds Season 2.

Season 2 is also incredibly constructed with breathtaking visual effects that make every episode feel worthy of theatrical showings. The costume department also once again knocks it out of the park, continuing an impressive show of craftsmanship following Season 1's new uniform designs and fairytale fits from "The Elysian Kingdom." The first half of Season 2 boasts gorgeous undercover outfits for multiple occasions as well as a fresh take on the dress uniforms of this particular era of Starfleet.

Everything both in front of and behind the camera comes together for a bigger, better season that offers bold new adventures, grounded character work, and a true sense of wonder. Strange New Worlds Season 2 feels fresh and exciting, while also honoring every other Star Trek series that has come before it, in ways that will delight fans both new and old.

Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returns on June 15, exclusively on Paramount+.
