Recently, Sum 41 announced their upcoming double album, Heaven :x: Hell , expected for release on March 29 via Rise Records . Heaven :x: Hell is the most ambitious album from Sum 41 yet – Heaven is 10 tracks of snarling high energy pop punk, while Hell consists of ten heavy metal anthems spiked with fret-burning solos, thrashing riffs, and fist-pumping hooks.  The band has been straddling the line of pop-punk and metal for their entire career, and Heaven :x: Hell is a testament to their innovative sound and unmatched skill, proving them as pioneers 27 years after the bands inception.

Heaven :x: Hell is available to pre-save and pre-order now at https://sum41.lnk.to/HeavenHell

Sum 41 shared previously “ Rise Up ” and “ Landmines ”, from Heaven :x: Hell ’s metal Hell side and pop-punk Heaven portion, respectively. The tracks have gained the attention of notable outlets such as Entertainment Tonight, Revolver, Consequence, NME, Exclaim!, BrooklynVegan, Alternative Press, KNOTFEST, and countless others.

Earlier this year, Sum 41 announced their breakup after 27 years of making music together – the news was reported on by The New York Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, CNN, Bloomberg, Pitchfork, TODAY, CBS, Billboard, and countless other major news outlets globally. Heaven :x: Hell is aiming for nothing short of greatness, a perfect parting gift from the band to the fans that have supported them endlessly.

Looking back at the band’s storied 27 year career, Sum 41 has firmly cemented their place in rock history with over 15 million records sold worldwide, multiple Billboard Charting releases, a Grammy Award nomination, 2 Juno Awards (7 nominations), a Kerrang! Award in 2002, multiple Alternative Press Music Awards, and countless other accolades.

Last December,  NME  spoke with frontman Derek Whibley about their “aggressive” new album, which he called “the perfect way to go out”.

“There’s more to the album than nostalgia,” he told NME . “Even if I tried to write ‘All Killer, No Filler’ again, I wouldn’t be able to. It just doesn’t come out the same. The songs sound like they could be from those eras though.”

Following on from recent single ‘ Landmines ’, Sum 41 also released ‘Rise Up, which Whibley described as “me coming out of hospital 10 years ago, and what happened afterwards.” The singer was hospitalised in 2014 after his liver and kidneys failed due to alcohol abuse .

“That’s something I’ll never stop thinking about,” he told  NME , with ‘Rise Up’ penned about “that struggle of finding the faith to continue on and the strength to build yourself back up.”

Sum 41 is an awesome band. Had the chance to see them live on a whim when a friend called me up several years ago and just so happened to have a spare ticket. At the time I'd heard several of their songs, but I was by no means a huge fan. Going to the show, the seats were close. I was surprised my friend declined my offer to pay for my half.

These dudes come across as super hyped, but that's the largest reason why I enjoyed this concert so much. You couldn't help but to feel the undiluted energy. It just radiated from the band and transferred over to the audience. Mosh pits galore ensued and I had two beers doused onto me. It was all good though. I laughed it off and just went ahead to embrace it, I jumped right into the center of the bigger one I spotted, as did my friend.

"Fat Lip" is a fave as it is with most fans, I believe. Live, the sound just pierces your soul and you can't help but sing along at the top of your lungs (even if you're totally sober). Made me feel like a teenager again. Really good times.

This band is in my top ten. I'd definitely go and see them again if given the chance. I also adore "Underclass Hero" and "Walking Disaster". While the vocals aren't super strong, their heart and passion definitely makes up for it. Love it.

Hi. I'm sure I would've loved seeing Sum 41 but actually Songkick when I went to buy my tickets of Alt-Tickets, I was given tickets to see With Confidence instead who were playing the same night and at same venue - Rock City, Nottingham. Honestly me and my friend were devastated to not see Sum 41, we were so excited and it was my friend's first concert, but With Confidence, Milestones, Broadside and Safe To Say were all very good so in the end it made up for it. But Songkick, why say you have tickets for Sum 41 then give me a link to With Confidence tickets? I was, and still am so confused by this. Anyways, I'm sure Sum 41 and Hollerado were great, but I don't know, I didn't see.

My favorite band of all time! The first time I got to see them was at a Chicago music festival and I got to meet them and it was a highlight of my life. They were so nice and hilarious. Then I got to meet them again at a tiny show in Dallas at the house of blues and they told stories from the road. Such down to earth guys. I got to be front row for that show and they just thrived in that small room it was such a special experience. They just never disappoint. Their old stuff is what we love and grew up on but their new stuff is just as good. Will always be their #1 fan. Hope to see them as many times as possible.

This was my third time seeing Sum 41 and they were absolutely fantastic! They never disappoint! The only thing I will say is that I found out after I left the concert that they came out for a second encore and played Pain for Pleasure. Probably around 80% of the people had left before then, so I assumed they were done after the first encore. I would just recommend that everyone really makes sure they are truly done before leaving. I also thoroughly enjoyed the openers, who were The Plot in You and The Amity Affliction. Sum 41 is great live, and I look forward to seeing them again and again.

Great concert last night!!! The pit was kinda horrible cause people get totally crazy. But the band was AWESOME! I've been waiting for so long and I don't regret anything! Songs like theirs are meant to be heard and shared at a concert!! I can't wait for the new album and the next concert, I'm definitely going!!

It was the best night of my life! While we were there jumping in Underclass Hero, we couldn't believe it! It was SUM 41!! It was Deryck! In the middle of the concert, Deryck stepped down from the stage to stay with the people!! It was awesome!' I have no words. The best night ever. ❤️ SUM 41

Knapp hinter Rise Against an 2. Jederzeit gerne wieder.

About sum 41.

Billboard Canada

Here's Where Sum 41 Will Play Their Final Show As A Band

The pop-punk group have announced their major international tour of the setting sum, which will conclude in canada in 2025..

Sum 41

Canadian pop-punk icons Sum 41 have announced their final headlining world tour, Tour Of The Setting Sum, which will conclude with their last ever show as a band in January, 2025. The concert will bring them back to their home province of Ontario — the group hail from Ajax, Ontario — for one final gig at Toronto's Scotiabank Arena on January 30 of next year.

Before that, though, the band will tour the world, with 70-plus dates kicking off in Jakarta, Indonesia on March 1, taking the group to Japan, Austria, America and more. The tour coincides with the release of the band's final album, Heaven :x: Hell , which is set for March 29.

advertisement

The band has previewed the album with two singles. "Landmines" is a high energy shot of classic pop-punk — a sound that has had clear influences on younger acts like Olivia Rodrigo, Willow, and rising Canadian songwriter ThxSoMuch — while "Rise Up" shows off a heavier sound the band has embraced in the last decade, without sacrificing Sum 41's penchant for catchy choruses. The singles reflect Heaven :x: Hell 's duality: a double record, the album has one half highlighting pop-punk, and the other leaning towards metal.

In addition to the closing show in Toronto, the Tour Of The Setting Sum features a run of four Canadian dates in Quebec, with the band playing Rimouski, Quebec City, Saguenay and Victoriaville this August. The tour also includes Sum 41's largest show to date, a sold-out performance at the Paris La Défense Arena in Nanterre, France hosting over 35,000 people.

The tour will serve as a final hurrah for Sum 41 following a 27-year career. The band first rose to attention during the pop-punk heyday of the early 2000s with their 2001 debut LP All Killer No Filler , which reached No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and No. 9 on the Canadian Albums chart. They build on that success with 2004's Chuck , which went to No. 2, and hit No. 1 in Canada with 2007's Underclass Hero . The band have also won two Juno Awards and sold over 15 million albums worldwide.

Though Sum 41's recent tours have only been getting bigger as fellow veteran pop-punk bands like Blink-182 and Green Day play stadiums , lead singer Deryck Whibley explained in a recent interview with GQ that the pace takes its toll, between stress and medical issues and detracting from time with family. Last fall, following a tour with The Offspring, Whibley experienced a life-threatening bout of COVID and pneumonia .

Whibley doesn't want to end up "a miserable rock star who doesn’t want to go onstage," he told GQ . Instead, the band are going out on a high, experiencing a career resurgence and releasing a record Whibley is proud of.

Avril Lavigne

Set for a June 21 release, 'Avril Lavigne - Greatest Hits' features 20 fan favourites from across the Canadian star's two-decade career, accompanying her upcoming headline tour.

A Canadian music icon is releasing her first ever greatest hits album.

Avril Lavigne, the skater girl from Napanee, ON who went on to sell fifty million records worldwide, will release a double LP of 20 fan favourites on June 21, titled Avril Lavigne — Greatest Hits.

The album – are already available for pre-order in CD and digital formats – features some of the most iconic songs of her illustrious 20-year career, from classics like "Complicated" and “Sk8er Boi”off her chart-topping 2002 debut album Let Go , to “Bite Me” and “Bois Lie” (featuring Machine Gun Kelly) from her seventh studio album Love Sux. The special release also includes the 2007 single "Girlfriend," which took Lavigne to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

To make the announcement, Lavigne donned her Complicated-era tie and tank top, a look that influenced every Canadian growing up in the 2000s.

Given that Lavigne is one of Canada's most recognizable stars of the 21st century, with eight Grammy nominations and ten Juno Awards to her name, it's almost surprising that she doesn't already have a greatest hits compilation. The Canadian superstar will kick off her celebratory era with a live performance at the 59th Academy of Country Music Awards on May 16, ahead of a headlining tour this summer. She’ll perform with New Male Artist of the Year nominee Nate Smith.

Her Greatest Hits headline tour kicks off on May 22 at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena, before making its way down to the US. Lavigne will then come back north of the border to six more Canadian cities, including performances at both Scotiabank Arena and Budweiser Stage in Toronto.

As previously announced Sum 41 will make stops in the United States, Japan, Mexico, Germany, Italy, and more, and will perform their largest show to date in front of a sold-out crowd of over 35,000 at Paris La Défense Arena in France later this year before the official Canadian leg of the tour.

Sum 41 savors landmark stop on farewell tour at Welcome to Rockville 2024 in Daytona

W hen Sum 41 takes the stage at this year’s Welcome to Rockville at Daytona International Speedway , it will be a milestone for the band and its longtime fans.

After 27 years, the Canadian pop-punk stalwarts are breaking up, offering a farewell on the globetrotting “Tour of the Setting Sum” that stops for a 9:10 p.m. set on Sunday, May 12, on Rockville’s Vortex Stage.

The tour caps a remarkable run for a band that arrived on the pop-punk wave of the late 1990s that also included Blink-182, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte and Avril Lavigne.

Powered by hits such as “Fat Lip” and “In Too Deep,” the band’s music was a fixture on MTV’s “Total Request Live” as well as film soundtracks for “Spider-Man,” “Dude, Where’s My Car?” and “Bring It On.”

Now, Sum 41 is taking its final bow behind a well-received double album, “Heaven :x: Hell,” which has yielded a hit single, “Landmines,” and a newly released music video for “Dopamine.”

In addition to vocalist Deryck Whibley, the group’s lone remaining original member, the current lineup includes guitarists Dave Baksh and Tom Thacker, bassist Jason McCaslin and drummer Frank Zummo.

During a recent tour break, Baksh, who has played with Sum 41 for much of its existence, answered a few questions about the final tour:

Why did Sum 41 decide to break up?

This past fall, lead singer Whibley explained to heavy-metal outlet Loudwire.com that after nearly 30 years, it was just time to move on.

"I've been in this band since I was in 10th grade, and ... I'm getting to a point where I'm thinking, I'd like to put some focus and energy into something else,” he said. “And I felt this (the band’s new double album “Heaven :x: Hell”) is probably the best record we've ever made. And I think this version of the band is the best we've ever been live. And I thought, what a way to just go out on this one."

By phone from his home outside of Toronto, Baksh added that the split was absolutely amicable.

“The chemistry in this band is such a beautiful thing,” he said. “I’ve played in so many bands, but I’ve experienced nothing like this with other musicians.

“It takes a lot of guts to go out while you’re on top. I don’t think any of us when this all started envisioned a reality that it would come to an end with us having a hit song (“Landmines”) and a record that’s doing really, really well after only a few weeks of release.

Know the schedule: Rockville 2024 lineup: Daily schedule stage by stage. Who's playing when, where?

An emotional connection: 'My therapy': At Daytona's Rockville, Jacksonville widow keeps husband's memory alive

“We all care so much about each other. That’s part of the reason why we also sit at a point where we’re still going to walk away the best of friends. It’s unbelievable. It’s hard to feel anything but awesome.”

Are emotions more intense at these final Sum 41 shows?

“Every place where we go, that ends up being our last time there, so I think we all take a second, especially after the shows. We take a second to really reflect on the years. Places like Florida have been amazing to us since the beginning of our career. Those were our first tours in the United States.”

Do you get to see other bands at Welcome to Rockville?

“This festival is pretty unbelievable, if you look at the talent that’s been curated for it. As soon as I wake up, I get food in me as fast as I can, and I walk around and see as much music as I can that day because I get to catch up on all these shows I’ve missed while I’m out touring.

“I get very inspired, and I feel very proud of the bands when they are playing and doing really well. It’s a hard thing to explain. What it all boils down to is a massive amount of inspiration.”

What’s it like playing at Daytona International Speedway?

“I grew up in a family of absolute car nerds, so we’re talking about the Speedway, someplace I’ve seen in pictures and on TV since I was a young kid. I can’t wait to walk a little bit of the track and play out there.

“The crowds are there to have a good time. When we first started the band, that was the whole outlook, to have a good time. We always feel the presence of a Florida crowd.”
