What to Know

  • Go to the Airport and select I wanna fly! > I wanna visit someone > Search for a friend or Enter a Dodo code .
  • To travel to a new random island, buy a Nook Mile Ticket from Resident Services and use it at the airport.
  • To unlock Harv’s Island, establish three plots of land. After he invites you, choose Visit Harv's Island at the airport.

This article explains how to visit other islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Visiting other islands requires access to the airport, which opens up after completing the game's early stages.

Once you know your Switch friend's island is open, either locally or online, or you have their Dodo code, you can join them at the airport. Here's what to do.

Go to the Airport.

Speak to Orville and select I wanna fly!

Select I wanna visit someone

Choose whether to join a local island or go online.

Local only works if your friend is playing the game nearby physically.

Select either Search for a friend or Enter a Dodo code.

The former looks for friends on your friends list with open islands, while the latter requires you to enter a code given out by the host.

Choose to join the island and visit.

How to Visit Other Islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Another way to visit an island in Animal Crossing New Horizons is to use Nook Miles to buy Nook Miles Tickets to a random island. On the island, you can collect resources you may not already have available on your island. Here's how to visit.

Go to the Terminal in the Resident Services building.

Buy a Nook Mile Ticket for 2,000 Nook Miles.

You may need to collect more Nook Miles by completing daily tasks.

Speak to Orville.

Select Use Nook Miles Ticket .

Travel to the new random island.

You can harvest trees and bamboo, collect fruit, collect flowers, and meet new villagers on the island. You can also invite the villagers back to your island.

Once you leave, you will never return to the same island, so don't leave anything essential on the island.

How to Visit Harv’s Island in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Harv's Island unlocks once you have established three plots of land for new villagers on your island. He appears randomly to invite you over. Here's how to visit.

Select Visit Harv's Island .

Select Time for takeoff!

At Harv's Island, players can take photos in his photo studio setup. It's also possible to access an unlimited supply of all your items and fossils within the studio.

When visiting other people's islands, you should follow some polite rules. Here's a brief overview.

  • Don't linger for too long. Like in real life, know when to leave. Don't outstay your welcome. If you've come solely to exchange goods, go once you've done so.
  • Respect the island. Don't trash another player's island by chopping down trees or picking all their flowers. Leave it in as good condition as you found it.
  • Never 'leave quietly.' It's possible to leave an island 'quietly' by pressing the - button to leave, but this can be buggy and cause issues for players, especially if you've just traded items. Leave via the airport to ensure this does not happen.
  • Communicate with the other player. It's friendly to say 'hey' and talk to the other player, as well as potentially leave a gift. After all, you're a visitor to their home!

There is no specific timeframe for Redd's visits, but you can expect to find him wandering about your island once every couple of weeks. Sometimes, you'll hear an announcement that Redd has arrived, while other times, you'll notice his Treasure Trawler and know he's there.

Flick randomly visits islands. He could arrive any day of the year, but he will always leave the next day by 5 a.m. When Flick visits your island, be sure to sell all the bugs you can to him to make as much money as possible.

To  get iron in Animal Crossing , your best bet is to use a shovel or axe to strike rocks you find on your island and hope an iron nugget appears as a resource.

To get a ladder in Animal Crossing , you'll have to progress through Tom Nook's tasks, such as paying off your tent, building your home, building Nook's Cranny, and building a bridge. After accomplishing these tasks, Nook will give you a ladder recipe.

Accessible Mystery Islands May Depend on Date and Time

ACNH - Getting Bit by Tarantula

For example, Tarantulas only appear from January to April or from November to December in the Northern Hemisphere, and spawn at night, it's likely that these conditions are required to visit the Tarantula Island.

If you're planning on hunting for a certain rare island, it might be worth it to try changing the Date and Time Setting on your Nintendo Switch first. How to Change the Date and Time

Coelacanths Can Be Caught Even When It's Not Raining

ACNH - Coelacanth on a Sunny Day

If you're aiming for the big catch, your best bet is to fish on a remote island.

Collect Materials Easily

ACNH - A resident comes across an iron nugget during a Mystery Island Tour

Event Materials Can Be Collected

Invite Villagers to your Island

Take Fruit Home With You

ACNH - A resident shakes a coconut tree

Be sure to grab these when you find these and take them back to your own island to plant and sell for a higher price.

Consider trading your found items online to other players, to get every different kinds of fruit tree on your island! Recipe and Fruit Trading Board

Take Rare Flowers

ACNH - A resident takes flowers

If you manage to find one of the island where flowers with rare colors bloom, be sure to take some back with you. These can usually only be gotten through Cross Pollination, which requires both time and luck, so it's a great find!

You'll have to use a shovel to dig up the entire flower to bring it home.

How to Make Hybrid Flowers

Take Home Furniture

ACNH - A resident comes across furniture in a Mystery Island

Make sure you shake all the trees for a free piece of furniture before you leave. Be careful, though, as each island also has a chance to drop a Wasp Nest!

Take Home Critters

ACNH - A resident captures a man-faced stinkbug in a Mystery Island

Find fish and bugs different from those found on your island on a Mystery Island Tour, so catch as many of these as possible.

It's much easier to catch insects on a Mystery Island since the area of the island is narrow.

Forgot a Fishing Rod or a Net ? You can craft these using the DIY Crafting Table (located near the airport on every Mystery Island Tour island) or by talking to Wilbur, the Dodo Airlines pilot, who will sell you Flimsy tools for 100 Miles each.

Rare bugs are easier to catch in the rain!

If it happens to rain while you're out on a mystery island, bring out your net and keep an eye on bugs.

Common insects like fireflies don't appear in the rain, so rare bugs like the tarantula are more likely to appear. Siince the area of the island is much smaller than your home island, it will be easier to spot one and sneak up on them!

Best Tools to Bring

It's best to have all your most important tools on hand when going on a Mystery Island Tour.

Craft or Buy Tools on the Island

If you'd prefer to have your inventory completely empty before you leave, head to the island first and craft the items you need there.

A DIY Workbench will always be available on the Mystery Island Tour island to craft the tools you need there from the Materials available on the island.

Otherwise, a Flimsy version of the Net, Axe, Shovel, or Fishing Rod can be bought from Wilbur for a fee of 100 Miles apiece.

This is especially important if you get sent to a bamboo island, where you cannot acquire any tree branch. Keep this in mind when going out on tours!

Don't Forget a Vaulting Pole

ACNH - DIY Recipe for a Vaulting Pole

When going on a Mystery Island Tour, a variety of rivers will surround you, limiting your movement.

If you go on a Mystery Island Tour before unlocking the Vaulting Pole, it might end up being a waste of your Ticket, so be sure to get the Vaulting Pole first before embarking on one. How to Get the Vaulting Pole

The Island You Visit is Random

These are examples of possible islands.

There are a variety of Mystery Island Tour islands available, and it's random which of the islands you will visit, so you'll need to be prepared for anything!

Empty Your Pockets

ACNH - A resident surveys their poclets

Without leaving behind any of the tools you'll need, bring a mostly empty bag to the island.

Also consider purchasing the Pocket Organization Guide first to get an extra 10 slots in your inventory before going!

  • How to Increase Inventory Space

Why Are There No Villagers on Mystery Islands?

ACNH - A resident reacts with curiosity at the lack of characters on an island

If you're looking to recruit a villager during one of your tours, make sure that your island has enough available space. How to Get Villagers to Move In

Some Islands Have No Villagers

On a Mystery Island Tour, sometimes you'll encounter an island with no Villagers at all.

If you're going on a Mystery Island Tour to try to recruit new Villagers, consider using an amiibo+ card instead to add new Villagers without the risk of wasting your Miles on a Nook Miles Ticket. List of amiibos and Compatibility

You Will Leave the Island When You Quit the Game

ACNH - A resident quits the game while on a Mystery Island

Be sure to go on a Mystery Island Tour at a point when you won't need to turn off your Switch soon, and try to get everything done before you do so!

You Cannot Use the Item Delivery and Liquidation Services

ACNH - Wilbur talks about item delivery and liquidation

Dodo Airlines added a new feature to lighten the load off your pockets; the Item Delivery and Liquidation services.

As of now, this feature is only available when you are on Harv's Island . Sadly, you cannot use this on Mystery Island Tours .

Go On a Mystery Island Tour

ACNH - How to Use Nook Miles Ticket - Orville asks where the resident wants to go

When visiting another island on a Mystery Island Tour, you can use a Nook Miles Ticket. After playing your initial loan of 5,000 Miles, Tom Nook will give you one of these tickets for free.

In addition, you can buy another any time from the Nook Stop in Resident Services for 2,000 Miles.

A key part of Animal Crossing New Horizon ‘s gameplay is being able to travel to other islands – both unexplored and inhabited by other players – to see what they’ve got to offer. You may be unclear on how to do this though, which is why we’re here to help with a guide on how to visit other islands .

How to Visit Other Islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons

To visit other islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you’ll need to redeem Nook Mile Tickets for 2,000 Nook Miles each.

Nook Miles are a form of currency in New Horizons rewarded to you for completing a variety of challenges, from cleaning up the island of weeds to greeting every resident on an island in a single day. You can check to see what these challenges are from the Nook Phone.

Note that you won’t be able to purchase things from the terminal until you’ve completed the early ‘tutorial’ portion of the game, so just keep going and you’ll eventually be notified when you’re allowed to browse the terminal items.

Redeeming Nook Mile Tickets

After collecting enough Nook Miles in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you can then use them at the terminal in the Resident Services building to purchase Nook Mile Tickets – items which, when used at the airport, allow you to visit other islands which contain new sights and rare resources for you to discover and claim for your own.

With some Nook Mile Tickets in your possession, head to the airport and speak to the NPC Orville inside. They’ll give you the option to redeem your tickets to travel to new islands and see what else the world has to offer.

How to Visit Other Players’ Islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons

As for how to visit other players’ islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons, it’s a slightly simpler process as you won’t need Nook Mile Tickets.

After reaching the point in the game where you have access to the Airport, speak to Orville and select the “I wanna fly!” option. From there, you’ll be able to choose whether you want to visit the island of another player locally or online.

You’ll want to choose local if the player whose island you want to visit is in close proximity to you. Online, meanwhile, should be selected if they’re a decent distance away from you, or if you want to visit a random person’s island.

Choose whichever option best applies to what you want to do, an then wait for Orville to provide you with an island to fly to. Confirm the island as your destination, and you’ll be sent flying to a new island via plane.

Time needed:  3 minutes

So, to recap how to visit other players’ islands:

He’ll be the NPC behind the desk.

This will begin the process of traveling to other islands.

Local islands are those tied to players close by to you, while online can take you to islands “far away” from you via an internet connection.

After a bit, he should provide you with another player’s island to travel to.

And that’s all there is to know about how to visit other islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons . For more on the game, check out our guide wiki . It has plenty of useful info on topics like what the download and install size is and what the preload and unlock times are.

Mystery Island Tour

animal crossing travel island

The Mystery Island Tour is a leisure activity in Animal Crossing: New Horizons operated by Dodo Airlines. The tour can be embarked on in exchange for a Nook Miles Ticket by speaking to Orville at the airport . Each tour brings the participant to a random deserted island, known as a Mystery Island , where they can harvest materials for crafting and catch rare bugs and fish . They also may find fossils , DIY recipes inside Message Bottles , and villagers if there is an empty plot on the player's island.

Characteristics [ edit ]

After paying a Nook Miles Ticket to Orville, the player will be transported to the island in a seaplane piloted by Wilbur , who will remain stationed on the dock for the duration of the tour. Once the player leaves to go home the island can never be revisited as, according to Wilbur, the map with the island's coordinates is destroyed for security reasons. In actuality, the islands are randomly generated from templates each time they are visited and deleted once the player leaves, so care must be taken to ensure no wanted items are left behind as they will be permanently lost. The player is free to do as they wish on the island as any changes will not affect future island visits.

Various tools are necessary in order to fully explore the islands and harvest their resources, though each island contains a Simple DIY Workbench in case the player needs to make their own while on tour. If the player cannot obtain the resources needed to make tools, they can purchase tools from Wilbur in exchange for Nook Miles . A vaulting pole and a ladder are the most crucial tools to have, as much of the islands are entirely inaccessible without these tools.

There are 20 archetypes in all for the Mystery Islands (with five missing in the game's data), some of which are much rarer to experience than others. Every island always contains a dock, a Simple DIY Workbench for crafting , rocks and beaches on the left and right sides containing palm trees and shells . Many of the islands will contain flowers , which is either the native flower or the sister flower of the player's island. There's a 30% chance that a message bottle may be found washed ashore in the sand, in addition to a 30% chance for a fossil to be buried. Each island that features regular non- fruit -bearing trees will have a least one that contains a Wasp 's Nest and one with a furniture leaf. The fruit-bearing trees bear the same fruit as the player's island, with the exception of one island that bears the sister fruit.

Tourists [ edit ]

animal crossing travel island

Potential villagers can appear when visiting the tour islands, and they can be asked to move to the player's own island as a resident. Initially these villagers will always be either lazy , normal or peppy ; once a villager of a given type has been invited, only villagers of the remaining type(s) will appear. Should a tourist be invited to become a resident, they will not move to the island until 3 new housing plots are prepared for Tom Nook .

Tourists will stop appearing on the islands from this point until Resident Services is upgraded into a building and the campsite is built. The player will then be able to purchase housing plots to place around town. From this point, villagers of every personality will begin appearing on the islands, if and only if an open plot is available (including if a plot is opened up by a villager moving away).

The villager that appears on a mystery island is determined randomly by choosing which species it will generate, then randomly choosing one of the villagers from that species. This makes octopus villagers, with only four in New Horizons , more common than a multitudinous species, such as cats , with 23 representatives. Once invited, the villager will occupy the oldest-placed housing plot the next day.

Types of Mystery Islands [ edit ]

Short river and pond [ edit ].

Mystery Island 0 NH.jpg

Chance: 9.68%

Emotion Curiosity NH Icon.png

Internal name

animal crossing travel island

A fairly ordinary island with a pond in the south-west corner and a river flowing from a pond on top of a cliff in the north to a mouth in the east. Three rocks can be found on the lowest level, and one on the raised section.

Short river [ edit ]

Mystery Island 1 NH.jpg

Very similar to the previous island, but without the pond and a somewhat wider upper level. Three rocks can be found on the lowest level, and one on the raised section.

Spiral [ edit ]

Mystery Island 2 NH.jpg

The river on this island follows a spiral pattern, with rocks arranged around different points of the spiral. Despite the unusual layout, there is nothing special about the island. The flowers and fruit-bearing trees on this island are the same as the ones native to the player's home.

Fidget spinner [ edit ]

Mystery Island 4 NH.jpg

A small island with a large fidget spinner-shaped pond on the right half of the island, and a small raised cliff area in the upper left corner. Four rocks can be found in each corner.

Mountain [ edit ]

Mystery Island 6 NH.jpg

An island containing three levels of elevation. A ring of fruit trees surrounds the top-most cliffs, atop which many flowers and five rocks can be found. These rocks have a higher than normal chance to generate ore when hit, and may also spawn a Pill Bug or Centipede .

Money rocks [ edit ]

Mystery Island 7 NH.jpg

A island containing a large ring-shaped pond, forming an islet in the center. Fruit trees and flowers surround the pond. The islet contains 5 rocks, all of which will dispense Bells when struck with a shovel or axe . The only way to pole vault across is on a tiny strip of land at the back of the island that juts out towards it. A money rock blocks the way and must be destroyed (by eating fruit) to cross.

Bamboo [ edit ]

Mystery Island 8 NH.jpg

Chance: 9.85%

A small square island covered entirely in Bamboo . Bamboo Shoot s can be found buried next to the stalks.

Fruit orchard [ edit ]

Mystery Island 10 NH.jpg

Chance: 10.15%

A somewhat wide island with a small raised section to the north, and a river that flows down and exits to the west. The island is covered with 19 fruit trees bearing non-native fruit, all of which can be harvested and sold for a large profit on the player's island. The fruit will always be the player's "secondary" fruit, which will always be the same when coming to this island. Three rocks can be found on the lowest level, and one on the raised section.

Having a 10.15% encounter rate, this mystery island has the highest chance, statisically.

Scorpion island [ edit ]

Mystery Island 12 NH.jpg

A island with four triangular cliffs in each corner. The clearing in the center contains 7 rocks, all of which will dispense Bells when struck with a shovel or axe. Scorpions will generate en-masse within the clearing, making for a difficult but potentially very lucrative bug catching opportunity. If the player is bitten they will respawn back on the dock.

This island can only be visited a maximum of once per day and is only available during times the scorpion is available to catch.

Tarantula island [ edit ]

Mystery Island 13 NH.jpg

A small square island with a ring of water in the center. Tarantulas will generate en masse in the center, making for a difficult but potentially very lucrative bug catching opportunity. If the player is bitten they will respawn back on the dock. The ring of water in the center is narrow enough for the player to jump across without the need for a vaulting pole.

This island can only be visited a maximum of once per day, and only at times the tarantula is available to catch.

Rugged woodland [ edit ]

Mystery Island 14 NH.jpg

Chance: 1.5%

An island with several isolated raised sections and no rivers or ponds. Hardwood Tree s can be found all over the island. Only insects associated with trees will appear here.

The following insects can be found on this island:

  • Walking Stick
  • Earth-Boring Dung Beetle
  • Scarab Beetle
  • Miyama Stag
  • Rainbow Stag
  • Cyclommatus Stag
  • Golden Stag
  • Horned Dynastid
  • Horned Atlas
  • Horned Elephant
  • Horned Hercules
  • Goliath Beetle
  • Drone Beetle
  • Giraffe Stag
  • Blue Weevil Beetle

This island can only be visited a maximum of once per day.

Flat woodland [ edit ]

Mystery Island 17 NH.jpg

This island is almost identical to the Bamboo island, but with Cedar Tree s instead of Bamboo Tree s. Only insects associated with trees will appear here. Four rocks can be found in each corner of the island.

Curly river [ edit ]

Mystery Island 18 NH.jpg

The island features a tiny raised section in the north-east corner, with a winding river that doubles back on itself and exists to the east, resembling a horseshoe. Three rocks can be found on the lowest level, and one on the raised section.

  • Red Dragonfly
  • Darner Dragonfly
  • Banded Dragonfly
  • Diving Beetle
  • Giant Water Bug

Big fish [ edit ]

Mystery Island 19 NH.jpg

The island features a raised section in the north-east corner, with two waterfalls that empty into a ring-shaped river that exits to the west. The waters of this island contain only large fish. It has a slightly lower chance of appearing than the other island with big fish, and contains only regular flowers and insects.

Only large fish (i.e. fish of size 4, 5 or 6) appear on this island.

  • Saddled Bichir
  • Snapping Turtle
  • Soft-Shelled Turtle
  • Giant Snakehead
  • Red Snapper
  • Football Fish
  • King Salmon
  • Olive Flounder
  • Giant Trevally
  • Blue Marlin
  • Napoleonfish

Trash [ edit ]

Mystery Island 20 NH.jpg

The island features a large curved raised section in the north to north-east, with smaller raised sections in the south-east and south-west corners. A hook-shaped river on the lowest level flows from the center of the island and exits to the west.

The waters on this island contain no fish, only trash and there is little else of value on this island. The only insects that spawn are water-related ones.

The following insects appear on this island:

  • Giant water bug

Dorsal-fin [ edit ]

Mystery Island 21 NH.jpg

Chance: 0.5%

An island where all dorsal-finned fish can be found in abundance in the island's waters. These fish include Saw Shark , Whale Shark , Great White Shark , Hammerhead Shark , Ocean Sunfish , and Suckerfish . The island contains a squared ring of water creating a small islet in the center, which features a formation of cliffs that resemble a dorsal-fin. No fish will spawn in the surrounding water of the islet, not even when using Fish Bait .

Notably, this is the only location in the game that naturally features a fourth-tier of elevation. Towns cannot naturally generate with this, as they can only be created with the Island Designer Construction Permit .

Waterfalls [ edit ]

Mystery Island 23 NH.jpg

Chance: 10%

A three-tier island with a river and multiple waterfalls, which empties into the sea on the eastern side, and a holding pond on the western side. Flowers cover the entire island.

Gold Nuggets [ edit ]

Mystery Island 24 NH.jpg

Chance: 0.3%

An island containing a small rectangular raised section, with very large squared pond behind it. A tiny square island lies in the center containing a single rock that dispenses up to 8 gold nuggets . The only way to get to the center is to climb up the cliff, and down the back, then vault over the pond. Scorpions are the only insect to spawn on this island.

Previously available Mystery Islands [ edit ]

The following islands could previously be visited on the tour, but are no longer accessible in the most up-to-date version of the game.

Rare Flowers [ edit ]

Mystery Island 11 NH.jpg

An island containing a large pond surrounded entirely by rare hybrid flowers. Valuable butterflies spawn in abundance amongst the flowers, and Koi and Goldfish can be fished from the pond. This island was accessible prior to version 1.2.0 .

  • Common Butterfly
  • Yellow Butterfly
  • Tiger Butterfly
  • Peacock Butterfly
  • Monarch Butterfly
  • Emperor Butterfly
  • Agrias Butterfly
  • Rajah Brooke's Birdwing
  • Queen Alexandra's Birdwing
  • Common Bluebottle
  • Paper Kite Butterfly
  • Great Purple Emperor
  • Madagascan Sunset Moth

This island could only be visited a maximum of once per day.

Rare Flowers and Big Fish [ edit ]

Mystery Island 16 NH.jpg

The island features a very large raised section in the center, with several ponds and a waterfall that are shaped like a fish with a raised caudal fin. Rare hybrid flowers can be found on the upper levels of the island, with only flower-related insects appearing. The waters of this island contain only large fish. This island was accessible prior to version 1.2.0.

  • Orchid Mantis
  • Man-Faced Stink Bug

The following fish can be found on this island:

Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Mystery Island Tours Guide

These islands might seem random, but there are actually 20 different setups, each with its own vegetation, fish, bugs, and more. Here at iMore, we have everything you need to know about Mystery Island Tours.

New Villagers?

Animal Crossing New Horizons Mystery Island Tours

In addition to all the resources offered by Mystery Tour Islands, you can also recruit new villagers for your island on these tours. While you start with two villagers , to fill up your island, you need to convince others to move there. You can do this using Amiibo at your campsite, or if you don't happen to have a stack of Amiibo at your disposal, you can find them on Mystery Islands. So long as you have an open spot for a new villager, there is a chance that one will be on the island when you arrive for your tour. If you talk to them enough, they will be convinced to move to your island.

There are twenty different setups for Mystery Islands. While islands with the same layout will have relatively similar contents and spawns, they are all unique in that once you leave an island, you can never return. If you leave things behind, they are gone forever. There are some tools you will want to have on every island, as well as materials and fruit you might want on certain islands. Because of the random nature of the islands, it's best to bring everything you might need. If you find yourself on an island with especially valuable spawns, you can always leave behind tools or materials for the extra space.

Starter Islands

Normal islands, islands that require an upgraded resident services.

There are only four islands that show up for a player's first Mystery Island Tour. While each of these islands can show up after the first tour, none of the other islands can show up for the first tour. Fans have named these four islands (as well as all the other islands) as they have no official names:

  • Spiral River Island : This island is flat with no hills and has a river that forms a spiral. It has a 9% chance of showing up outside of the starter island.
  • Short River Island (#1) : This island has a second level with the start of its river. The river forms a waterfall and then flows out to sea. It has a 9% chance of showing up outside of the starter island.
  • Short River Island (#2) : This island is almost identical to the first short river island, but it also has a pond. It has a 9% chance of showing up outside of the starter island.
  • "Fidget Spinner" Island : Dubbed "Fidget Spinner" by fans because of the resemblance of its lake to the popular toy, this island has no river. It has a small, second level, but not much else of interest. This island has a 9% chance of appearing outside of the starter island.

Animal Crossing New Horizons Mystery Island Tours

The next set of islands can all show up at any point after the first tour:

  • Bamboo Island : The most common island you can find, this island has a 10% chance of showing up. It is entirely flat with no hills whatsoever. It has a few palm trees on the beach, but no other trees. Instead, it has bamboo, and it's the only place where you can get it. In addition to several fully grown bamboo plants, there will also be digging spots where you can dig up bamboo sprouts. Bamboo sprouts can be eaten like fruit, as well as planted to grow new bamboo plants. If you planned ahead and brought some fruit along with you, you can also uproot several of the grown plants to take home to your island.
  • Mountain Island : This island shows up 9% of the time and has three tiers, no rivers or ponds, and many fruit trees. It also has five rocks where pill bugs and centipedes spawn.
  • Sister Fruit Island : This island shows up 9% of the time and has 19 fruit trees. The fruit here, known as your sister fruit, will be the same type of fruit that the player's mother sent early on in the game.
  • Waterfall Island : This island has a 5% chance of showing up and is covered with hills and waterfalls. It is good for farming fish that show up at high elevations, and at river mouths.
  • Trash Island : This island has a 5% chance of showing up and spawns no fish. Instead, only trash can be caught here. Lots of water-related bugs also spawn here, like dragonflies.
  • Curly River Island : This island shows up 5 % of the time and only spawns water-related bugs. It has an elevated area with a waterfall and a river that curls around the island before feeding out into the ocean.
  • Scorpion/Tarantula Island : This rare island shows up just 2% of the time, and can only appear once per day. It is entirely flat, with no hills whatsoever. There is a narrow stream that you can cross without a vaulting pole, and the only bug that spawns on this island are either tarantulas or scorpions, depending on the time of year. This island will only appear between 7 PM and 4 AM, as that's the only time when these bugs spawn.
  • Hybrid Flower Island : This rare island only shows up 2% of the time and can only show up once a day. The flowers here are all hybrid flowers, and the bugs are only the ones attracted to those flowers.
  • Big Fish Island (#2) : This rare island only shows up 2% of the time and can only show up once a day. The only fish that show up here are size four or larger. It has a single raised area which has a pair of waterfalls. The waterfalls form a river that circles a smaller island, before leading back out to the sea.
  • Hardwood Tree Island (#2) : This rare island only shows up 1% of the time and can only show up once per day. The layout is like Bamboo Island, but instead of bamboo, it only has hardwood trees. the only bugs that spawn here are those associated with hardwood trees, such as stags, beetles, and walking sticks.

Animal Crossing New Horizons Mystery Island Tours

The last set of islands will only show up after you've upgraded Resident Services :

  • Money Rock Island (standard) : This island shows up 5% of the time, and has a huge river which can only be vaulted in a single spot blocked off by a rock. Breaking that rock in a single blow will yield 8,000 Bells. After vaulting to the center island, there are five more money rocks. In total, this island can yield 88,500 Bells.
  • Money Rock Island (rare) : This island only shows up 2% of the time and can only show up once per day. It has no river or ponds, but there are four small cliffs, one in each corner. The ground is covered with money rocks and flowers.
  • Finned Fish Island : This is an exceptionally rare island with only a 1% chance of showing up, and even then, it can only show up between June and September. The only fish that spawn around this island are finned fish (Ocean Sunfish, Suckerfish, and sharks.) As such, no fish will spawn in the river, even with bait.
  • Big Fish Island (#1) : This rare island only shows up 3% of the time and can only appear once per day. Like Big Fish Island #2, only fish size four or larger will spawn here. It also has hybrid flowers and the bugs that those flowers attract.
  • Hardwood Tree Island (#1) : This rare island only shows up 2% of the time and only once per day. It has no rivers or ponds, but three cliff areas. The only trees that grow here are hardwood trees, and the only bugs that spawn here are those associated with hardwood trees, such as stags, beetles, and walking sticks.
  • Gold Rock Island : This is one of the rarest islands, only showing up 1% of the time, and only once per day. This island has a smaller island at the center, surrounded by a river too wide to vault save for a single spot. The center island has a single rock that will produce up to nine gold nuggets when struck. The only bugs that spawn here are tarantulas or scorpions, depending on the time of year.

Orville notices the player's Nook Miles Ticket

Mystery tours are a feature introduced in New Horizons , which allows the player to visit random uncharted islands from the airport on their island . Mystery tours provide the player with a way to gather more crafting materials , such as iron nuggets if they run out of them on their home island, as well as opportunities to collect rare fish and bugs , non-native fruit trees , and hybrid flowers .

  • 2.1 May Day Island
  • 2.2 Kapp'n's Tours

Accessing the island requires a Nook Miles Ticket , which can be purchased from the Nook Stop in Resident Services for 2,000 Nook Miles . The player must then visit the airport and talk to Orville , selecting the option to "visit other places." If the player has the Nook Miles Ticket in their inventory, Orville will notice and ask if the player would like to visit a mystery island. Visiting a mystery island uses up the Nook Miles Ticket.

Composition [ ]

NH-screenshot-Wilbur greeting the player to the mystery island

Wilbur greeting the player to the mystery island

All mystery tour islands are guaranteed to feature a dock where the player arrives and can return to their own island , a non-removable simple DIY workbench , and beaches with at least four palm trees. A non-removable campfire will be present if a villager is camping on the island. If the island has hardwood and/or pine trees a random tree will drop a wasp nest while another will drop a random furniture item upon being shaken. There is a 50% chance of a single fossil spawning, as well as a 50% chance of a message in a bottle spawning on the shore. Wilbur is also always present on the dock and will sell flimsy tools in exchange for Nook Miles. The makeup of the island's interior is randomly chosen from a pool of layouts.

If the player has one or more empty house plots available on their island, each mystery tour island will have one random villager camping there. They can be invited to move to the player's island. When all house plots are occupied, no villagers will be present on the mystery islands. They will also not be there if you have reached the limit of villagers living on your island (10 NPC villagers) and can't reserve any more plots. Villagers are selected the moment the player initiated a mystery tour, and the villager is rolled first on species, then a villager of that species. The game will not factor in personality types at all, and will not consider duplicates or villagers that you have encountered before.

Villagers in your move in queue (obtained from other player's voids and there can only be 4) are excluded from appearing in mystery island tours. They are different from the villagers that Tom Nook invites, as Tom Nook tends to invite villagers of personality types you don't have, and villagers from the move in queue will always claim they moved from a different player island.

If the player has already invited a villager to move to their island that day, even if they have more open plots, no villagers will be present on the mystery island tours. Note that there is an exception to this when filling the initial 3 plots, players can invite more than one villager per day at that time, consisting of one lazy , one peppy , and one normal villager.

Some mystery islands spawn large numbers of rare critters: there exists an island where only tarantulas and scorpions spawn, providing the player with a way to grind large amounts of Bells relatively quickly, similar to palm tree bugs on the island in New Leaf . Passing out due to a tarantula or scorpion bite on a mystery island will not return the player to their home island; they will wake up by the seaplane at the beginning of the island.

Some mystery islands can only be visited at a certain time of day, such as the island infested with hostile insects at 7 PM to 4 AM. However, whatever time you arrived at your island is your locked encounter table for bugs and fish. So you can arrive at an island at 3:59 pm and catch bugs that stop spawning at 4 pm after that time. Likewise, you can visit a nocturnal island, put your system to sleep, and resume your game during the day and get nocturnal spawns during the day.

May Day Island [ ]

There is also one special type of mystery island, the May Day island. This island is only accessible once per year during the month of May , by using an unseen one-use item, the May Day Ticket, and is different each year. The player can acknowledge this island and the ticket used to get there by talking to Tom Nook during any time during May, which will inform them that a May Day ticket has been sent to the airport and is ready to be used, however the ticket itself is never present in the player's inventory and is only mentioned by Tom Nook and Orville . The May Day island is a maze where the player has all tools and items removed from their inventory and must work their way out with very limited materials to craft new ones. If a player gets stuck and cannot complete the maze, they can use the Rescue Service app of their NookPhone in order to start over. At the end of the maze, the player gets to meet Rover . Rover will give you his briefcase as a reward for the first year doing the May Day event, and a photo of him for the second time doing the May Day event.

Kapp'n's Tours [ ]

With the 2.0.0 update , Kapp'n is also able to take the player on Mystery Tours once per day by paying 1,000 Nook Miles . He is unlocked after the player has gotten K.K. Slider to visit their island, and after 10 total villagers have moved in. The mystery islands here differ in the fact that they are not limited to the season or time that you are currently in, allowing players to catch off-season bugs and fish. These islands also feature buried gyroid fragments , which you can bring back to your island.

List of Mystery Islands [ ]

The same island cannot be visited more than once; even though visiting an island with the same layout and theme is possible, if items were left on the ground on a similar one, they will not be present when the player "returns." Wilbur explains that he burns the flight plans to these islands after each trip for "security reasons".

There are exactly 18 unique island layouts. They have been given conjectural names because mystery tour islands are unnamed. Island layouts marked "(rare)" can only be encountered once per day. Some islands will only begin appearing after the Resident Services tent on the player's island has been upgraded to a building.

With the 1.2.0. update , 2 islands containing hybrid flowers were removed and encounter rates were adjusted.

List of Kapp'n Mystery Islands [ ]

With the 2.0.0. update , A new list of islands are available, but players can only visit them with Kapp'n. They are separated into two lists of "normal" and "rare" island types. The game first rolls for the island type, and then chooses the island. Common islands have a 78% chance of being chosen, and rare islands have a 22%. However, if the player's island hasn't passed certain dates, some rare islands might be unavailable. For example, islands that never experienced winter will never allow Kapp'n to take the player to the Snow Island . When an unavailable rare island is rolled, the game instead rerolls a normal island.

Additionally, all common islands (except the Full Gyroid Island) has a 5% chance of having 1000 bell money trees instead of fruit trees, a 2% chance of all rocks becoming money rocks, and a 29.4% chance that only one rock will become a money rock.

(note, each island has a small number of different maps to choose from, because of this I decided to remove the map section.)

Previously available Mystery Islands [ ]

These two islands were removed with the Earth Day update .

  • Each island is numbered within the game's data. Islands 3, 5, 9, 15, and 22 aren't available, suggesting that they were removed during development or may be added in a future update.
  • Prior to update 1.2.0 , there were two additional islands, both containing hybrid flowers. Encounter rates for the remaining 18 islands were also adjusted.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH) Guides

Kapp’n boat tours & new mystery islands.

animal crossing travel island

Kapp’n is a green turtle you can find offering special boat tours to islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH)! Learn where to find him, how to take a boat tour, and the islands you can visit in this guide.

Newly introduced in the massive Version 2.0 Update released on November 3rd , you’ll need to have your copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons fully updated to experience Kapp’n and his boat tours.

What Are Kapp’n Boat Tours In Animal Crossing?

Kapp’n Boat Tours offer a new way to discover unique and mysterious islands from faraway in Animal Crossing: New Horizons — different from the mystery islands that Dodo Airline have been able to take you to since launch!

animal crossing travel island

These brand new mysterious islands will often offer new special items that can’t be found on your own home island, like new types of flora such as vines and bushes. We suspect there might even be new types of fruits too, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Additionally, Kapp’n can take you to islands that of a different season or weather than your home island. For example, when your date is set to July in the Northern Hemisphere, you might visit an island that’s in Winter allowing you to catch different fish or bugs!

animal crossing travel island

In fact, these out-of-season islands can even feature special seasonal materials like Snowflakes , or items from a different time of day like wishing for Star Fragments.

How To Take Kapp’n Boat Tours & Visit Islands

You can take a boat tour with Kapp’n in Animal Crossing: New Horizons by visiting your island’s Pier in the bottom left or bottom right of the map, depending on the layout.

animal crossing travel island

Simply walk up to Kapp’n on the Pier and he’ll ask for you for a small fee of 1,000 Nook Miles currency per round-trip to a mysterious island! You don’t need to purchase Nook Miles Tickets for Kapp’n.

Note that you can unfortunately only set sail with Kapp’n for a mystery island once per in-game day . Of course, impatient players can time travel to get ahead if they desire.

Kapp’n Island Materials

While exploring the Mystery Islands that Kapp’n takes you to in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you may discover some new materials and plants you haven’t seen anywhere else! That’s because some very exciting new items have been introduced on Kapp’n Boat Tour Islands.

An extremely useful new type of item, Vines can be found on Kapp’n Islands and can be placed on your island’s cliffs to climb up them — essentially as a makeshift ladder that looks much cooler!

Additionally, there are many new DIY Recipes in Version 2.0 that require Vines as a crafting material to create items — check out every new recipe here .

Glowing Moss

Perfect for night-time decoration, Glowing Moss is a new type of plant that can be found on Kapp’n Islands somewhat similar to weeds and flowers. Unlike other plants though, the Glowing Moss features a subtle glow during the evening making for a great night-time effect!

Just like with Vines, there new DIY Recipes in Version 2.0 that require Glowing Moss as a crafting material to create items — check out every new recipe here .

Plumeria Bushes

A new type of bush called Plumeria can be found on Kapp’n Islands in two different Pink and White color options! In the Northern Hemisphere, they bloom in season from June 1st to September 20th. Learn more about Bushes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons here.

Kapp’n Boat Tour Islands

There are many different mysterious islands you can visit by taking a Kapp’n Boat Tour in Animal Crossing: New Horizons Version 2.0! We’re beginning to research all of them and will list them below as we do.

While the exact contents of each island can vary, we’ve generally found that a Gyroid Fragment is buried in the ground every time.

Vine & Glowing Moss Island

On this special island seen during the Animal Crossing Direct, many brand new materials can be collected including Vines, Glowing Moss, and Plumeria Bushes.

Bell Trees Island

On this unique island, you can find multiple Money Trees containing bags of 1,000 Bells each on them. Simply shake the trees to get your free Bells!

Vegetable Farm Islands

There are multiple different islands that can be discovered with abandoned farms on them. As part of these farms, you can find all of the of the new vegetable crops in Version 2.0 including Carrots, Wheat, Sugarcane, Tomatoes, Potatoes, and Pumpkins.

Star Fragment Island

On this dazzling island, beautiful shooting stars will race across the sky! Star Fragments can be found all over the land including on the beach and even inside of Rocks if you smash them with a shovel. Be sure to check the beach for an appropriate DIY Crafting recipe in a message bottle too!

Seasonal Islands

There are multiple different islands covering each major season in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! On these islands, you can find both the exclusive seasonal materials and crafting recipes of seasons including Spring Cherry Blossoms, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and more.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Kapp’n on his boat with an animal crossing player

Kapp’n, the lovable kappa (not turtle), has arrived in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 2.0 roster. He’s settled down on your island’s pier, ready to captain a little boat that’ll deliver you to different islands with unique landscapes, through Kapp’n’s Boat Tours.

In this Animal Crossing: New Horizons Kapp’n guide, we’ll explain everything you need to know about the crooning kappa’s arrival: Kapp’n history, what you can expect from his boat rides to mysterious islands that only he knows about, the price you’ll pay in Nook Miles for a trip and a sea shanty, and what you have to do before Kapp’n shows up .

Table of contents

Who is kapp’n, how do kapp’n’s boat tours work, how do i unlock kapp’n.

What are the islands?

Can I do anything while he’s singing?

Kapp’n is a kappa, a mythical, turtle-like, Japanese folktale monster, known for operating different methods of transport. In previous Animal Crossing games, he’s driven taxis and buses, but in New Horizons , he’s returned to his sailing roots.

From your island’s dock, he’ll lead you mysterious islands. Kapp’n’s Boat Tours cost 1,000 Nook Miles per trip, and he’ll sing you a sweet song on the way. Players are only allowed one boat ride per day.

kapp’n boat tour at night

Kapp’n will take you to a random island, different from those you can get from a Nook Mystery Tour . There are a bunch of different islands that Kapp’n will take you to, and they’ve all got something special going for them — some have exotic flora, while others are in different seasons or times of day. They’re also helpful for farming seasonal items, like snowflakes or mushrooms.

Kapp’n won’t appear on your island unless and until you’ve made some progress in the base game (the part of the game that existed before the 2.0 update). We’ve confirmed (with extensive testing) that you have to do the following before Kapp’n arrives:

  • Unlock Resident Services , so that Isabelle shows up in your town.
  • Get a three-star town rating , so that K.K. Slider performs in your town.
  • The day after K.K. Slider performs, Isabelle tells you that ordinances have been unlocked and that you can go on special boat tours , which is a reference to our beloved Kapp’n.

Kapp’n docked at the … dock in Animal Crossing New Horizons.

Kapp’n will dock his boat on your empty New Horizons pier. When you start your game after the update is downloaded, he’ll be waiting for you there on the boat — no unlocking necessary.

If you happen to visit Blathers before, he’ll also push you toward the pier: To unlock Brewster , you’ve got to take one of Kapp’n’s tours to find the pigeon coffee slinger looking for gyroids.

After a brief song, you’ll arrive with Kapp’n at a mystery island. They’re random, and you can’t choose where you’ll dock. Here are some we’ve seen so far:

  • Crop islands , islands filled with wheat, pumpkins, tomatoes, or other crops
  • Shooting star island , where shooting stars are abundant, and star fragments come from rocks
  • Vine and glowing moss island , with vine and glowing moss, which doesn’t grow natively on your home island
  • Money tree island , where all trees grow Bell bags
  • Winter island , a place to catch snowflakes out of season
  • Cherry blossom island , where the trees are still pink and you can catch cherry blossoms
  • Acorn/pinecone/mushroom island , a fall island where acorns, pinecones , and mushrooms litter the ground

Regardless of the island, search around and dig up anything hidden, too: Sometimes, you’ll find gyroid fragments hidden underground or DIY recipes bottled up on the beach.

You can’t skip Kapp’n’s song, and how dare you for asking!? Just kidding. But you don’t have to just sit there. You can clap along to the beat (or not) by hitting the A button. You can use Reactions, too, with the other buttons on the right side of the Nintendo Switch.

If you’re in a rush, you can also get him to skip his singing by mashing the B button, but you would never interrupt a singing kappa, right?

Update (Nov. 11): We’ve added information about skipping Kapp’n’s sea shanty.

Update (Nov. 12): We’ve added information that explains what you must do before Kapp’n appears the dock.

All mystery island types in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

A list of all the mystery islands you can explore in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The best gaming Tiktoks in March 2020

These gaming Tiktoks will make you laugh 'til you drop!

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you can not only explore your own island but also a variety of mystery islands whenever you purchase a Nook Miles Ticket. To help give you a better idea as to what you can expect, we’ve put together a guide explaining all of the mystery island types in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

All Mystery Island types in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The island you call home is not the only island you can explore in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Whenever you rack up 2,000 Nook Miles you can purchase a Nook Miles Ticket and use it to explore mystery islands. To purchase a Nook Miles Ticket, you’ll first need to head to the NookStop in the Resident Services Center.

Once you’ve redeemed your Nook Miles, take your Nook Miles Ticket down to the Airport and ask to use it. In using it, you’ll be taken to a random island. You never know what island you’re going to land on, but there are a few specific island types that can crop up. Below, we’ve listed all of the mystery island types in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

UPDATE: If you want to see maps for each mystery island type, Redditor u/trollmz posted a comprehensive image with info from dataminer @_Ninji that features the layout, percentage, and resources for each mystery island as seen below. You can also view it in the original Reddit thread  and in details posted by @_Ninji .

animal crossing travel island

Normal Island

The most frequent mystery island to appear is a “normal” island that boasts all of the same assets and features as your island back home. For example, you’ll find all of the same fish, bugs, native fruit trees, and flowers, nothing new. If you’ve yet to invite new Villagers to your island , you’ll find one random Villager here.

You can also dig up a Fossil and earn an item by shaking the trees. Be sure to pick all the weeds before you shake the trees to ensure nothing gets lost. With the rocks, you can mine for useful resources like iron. If needed, you’ll find a crafting station near the airplane which you can use if your tools break. You can also purchase tools from Wilbur in exchange for Nook Miles.

Any normal island can be turned into a “tarantula island” by following a few basic steps which we’ve outlined in a previous guide .

Hardwood Island

Only trees on this island are hardwood trees but is otherwise a standard island type. Great for farming softwood, hardwood, and wood for crafting.

Bamboo Island

As the name suggests, the bamboo island type is full of bamboo trees. It’s strongly recommended that you dig these trees up, take them back to your island, and plant them in order to have bamboo as an accessible resource. You’ll also find similar resources to the normal island type here including rocks to mine for iron, flowers, bugs, and so on.

Scorpion Island

As noted by dataminers, there are two variants of scorpion island. One has a wealth of bamboo trees, while the other has an "A" shape water pattern at the center along with rocks that can be mined for resources like iron and gold. Keep in mind that, like tarantulas, scorpions can be sold for 8,000 Bells a piece so be sure to take your time and catch as many as you can.

Bamboo island is great because you can dig up bamboo trees and then plant them on your own island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Fruit Island

Similar to the “normal island” type, you’ll sometimes land on a fruit island. It’s referred to as a fruit island by Animal Crossing players because unlike the normal island type, fruit islands contain fruit that you don’t have. For example, if cherries are your native fruit, you may be able to find peaches or pears on this island.

It’s strongly recommended that you dig up these trees and take them back with you to plant on your island as they’ll continue to produce non-native fruit. Like the normal island type, you can find native bugs and fish and flowers, along with a Fossil, random item, and resources like iron should you need them.

Tarantula Island

This island type is infamous as a way to farm Bells. The reason for this is because tarantulas spawn constantly on this island as long as you travel at night (their normal spawn time). On the island, there’s a smaller island in the center and it’s here that you’ll want to be in order to catch tarantulas.

We’ve got a few pointers in our tarantula island guide when it comes to making the process as easy as possible.

Tarantulas sell for 8,000 Bells each so you’ll want to take the time to catch as many as possible before returning to your island. If the Nook’s Cranny shop is closed, you can store the tarantulas in containers by your house by selecting them in your inventory and picking the “place item” option. In the morning, collect the containers, sell the spiders, and profit!

Fish Island Types

Similar to the tarantula island, there are fish island types. For example, one is a "fin" island that spawns rare fish like sharks more frequently. It also boasts a center island shaped like a dorsal fin. Additionally, there are two other "fish island" types that focus on big fish like the Olive Flounder or the Oarfish.

Given that Oarfish sell for 9,000 Bells each, this can be a very profitable island for you to land on. Not to mention the shark spawn island with the Hammerhead Shark selling for 8,000 Bells, the Whale Shark selling for 13,000 Bells, and the Great White Shark selling for 15,000 Bells.

If you're hunting for a fish island, be sure to bring enough fishing rods and fish bait with you just in case you get lucky enough to land on one. You aren't going to want to miss the opportunity to bring home an inventory full of Oarfish, or your very own Great White Shark if you land on "fin" island!

Bell Rock Island

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there are two mystery islands where you can farm Bells. What this means is that the rocks on these island types can be mined for Bells rather than rocks, clay, and iron.

You’ll know you’ve landed on bell rock island when you see no center island and a bunch of hardwood trees (plus rocks to mine) or a smaller island in the center with rocks laid out in a circle.

To reach these rocks on this island, you’ll need to smash the rock that blocks the path then vault your way over. Once on the mini island, you’ll want to use the hole trick to get the max eight hits per rock as outlined in our previous guide .

Unlike the roses on your own island, flower island has unique plants for you to collect in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Flower Island

Again, this island is like your normal island type with the exception of the flowers and butterflies that linger among them. On this island, you’ll find unique, hybrid flowers that you can’t get on your own island. The same goes for butterflies, with rarer butterflies fluttering by (all those Animal Crossing puns).

We strongly recommend digging up these flowers and taking them back with you to plant on your own island. If you see any valuable butterflies like the blue Emperor Butterfly, be sure to grab them as they’re worth 4,000 Bells each.

Trash Island

This island is similar to the normal island type with all of your native resources on it from bugs to fruit. However, fishing on trash island is an interesting experience as you won’t get fish so much as you’ll get trash. Lots and lots of trash. For crafting, it can be useful to farm a bunch of tires and boots, but overall, this one has to be our least favorite mystery island.

In addition to the mystery islands listed above, there are a few other noteworthy islands that are pretty much your standard island but with some unique layouts.

  • Normal island set in an elaborate spiral design.
  • Normal island set in a "fidget spinner" design.
  • Normal island with a mountain layout.
  • Normal island with several waterfalls.
  • Normal island with a curled center water pattern and increased dragonfly spawns.
  • Normal island with zero bug spawns.

The most common mystery island spawn is the normal island, or normal island variants like spiral island. As previously stated, you can turn normal islands into tarantula islands if you want to farm them for additional profit as long as you visit them at night, which we recommend in order to make the most out of your Nook Miles Ticket (priced at 2,000 Nook Miles per ticket).

Now that you know all of the mystery island types in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, be sure to read through some of our other helpful guides including our comprehensive turnip guide for Animal Crossing: New Horizons , where to find all of Gulliver’s Communicator Parts in Animal Crossing: New Horizons , and how to catch Surgeonfish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons .

Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Visit a Friend's Island

One Animal Crossing Collaboration Could Be an Even Bigger Hit Than Its Sanrio Crossover

Honkai: star rail leak hints at version 2.4 banners, honkai: star rail leak teases upcoming planets.

It may have been quite some time now since Animal Crossing: New Horizons first launched for the Nintendo Switch, but there are still plenty of new players that are just getting their feet wet with the long-running life-sim series from Nintendo. One of the most notable features from the latest entry allows players to visit their friend's islands via the in-game airport.

In order to visit another island in the game, players will need to be connected online first and foremost. Going to other islands that are owned by other players will be impossible without a stable connection. Once that's done, Animal Crossing: New Horizons island goers will have to make sure that they have a Dodo Code from their friend.

To get this Dodo Code, players will need to speak to Orville at the local airport and tell him that they want visitors. Once this is done, a Dodo Code will be given out and will need to be sent to the friend who is trying to fly out of their island.

RELATED:  Animal Crossing: New Horizons Adds More New Years Items

By simply speaking to Orville and telling him "I wanna fly," the player will then be prompted to choose an island that's accepting visitors, and then the Dodo Code will have to be input. Once that is all set up, players will soon be on their way to their friend's digital Animal Crossing island. Keep in mind that the online connectivity in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a bit strict in what players can and cannot do.

For example, if one person is coming to visit another player's island, the owner of that island cannot be in a menu or in a conversation with a villager or NPC . And the island owner is also not allowed to move around any furniture, whether it is indoors or outdoors. Still, even with the limited functionality, players can have a fun time running around each other's island, hanging out on a beach, or just get inspired by all of the decorative items scattered about.

How Many Players Can Visit At Once?

Animal Crossing: New Horizons supports up to four players on one system locally and up to eight players online . This means that if someone already has eight friends on their island, other players will not be able to enter until somebody leaves the island.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is currently available as a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – How To Visit Other Islands

Image of Dean James

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is all about moving to your new island getaway and creating a home with yourself and other villagers. You are far from the only island in the sea though, as there are plenty of islands to explore with lots to see. It’s possible to visit islands that your friends have made, as covered in another guide , but we’re going to be focusing on how to visit other random islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How To Visit Other Islands

One of the earlier tasks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons involves finding unique specimens for Tom Nook, which then leads to Blathers coming onto the scene in hopes of building a museum. He then requires you to find an additional 15 unique specimens for the museum, which can seem like a tall task. You will start catching the same fish and bugs on your island, as well as being limited in the number of fossils available daily.

This is where traveling to other islands comes into play, as other islands hold plenty of creatures that yours does not. To travel to other random others, you will need to acquire a Nook Miles Ticket, whether it’s your first free one or you purchase them yourselves .

After you have your Nook Miles Ticket in hand, go to the airport and speak with Orville. Here you want to tell him that you want to fly and he will mention that you have a Nook Miles Ticket. You will want to select the option where you say you’re using the Nook Miles Ticket and then you will go on a plane to another random island.

Once on this island, catch and collect whatever you want, though be careful of your limited inventory. If you by chance break some of your necessary items like a fishing rod or shovel, you can go to the pilot and spend Nook Miles to get another. You will want to talk to the villager on the island and invite them to your island as well while you are here.

After you have done everything you can do on the island, speak to the pilot and you can head back home to your own island.

From August 1, 2024, Onward: What Your Dog Needs to Enter the United States

At a glance.

Starting on August 1, 2024, dogs entering or returning to the United States must meet new, specific requirements depending on where they have been in the 6 months before entering the U.S. and where they received their rabies vaccines (if required).

Requirements for all dogs

Requirements for dogs with a current and valid rabies vaccination administered in the united states.

  • Requirements for foreign-vaccinated dogs that have been in a country with high risk of dog rabies within 6 months before entry

Requirements for dogs that have been ONLY in countries that are dog rabies-free or low-risk during the 6 months before entry

All dogs must:

  • Be at least 6 months of age at time of entry or return to the United States
  • This must have been implanted prior to any required rabies vaccination
  • The microchip number must be documented on all required forms and in all accompanying veterinary records
  • Dogs may not enter the United States if they are carrying a disease contagious to people.
  • Isolation of the dog, veterinary examination, and additional testing, at the importer’s expense, may be required to determine if the dog has a contagious disease and prevent spread if the dog does not appear healthy upon arrival.

black and white French bull dog

This form should be filled out online ideally 2-10 days before arrival; however, it can also be completed right before travel (even in line at the border crossing) if you have internet access. If the information on the form changes before the dog arrives, you must submit a new form and indicate you are making changes to an existing form. All information, including port of entry where the dog is arriving, must be correct at time of arrival.

  • This form requires you to upload a clear photograph of the dog showing its face and body. Dogs that will be less than one year of age at time of arrival should have the photograph taken within 10 days before arrival.
  • There is no charge to importers for submitting this form.
  • Additional requirements for dogs with a current rabies vaccination administered in the United States
  • Additional requirements for dogs that have been in a country at high-risk for dog rabies within the 6 months before entry and do NOT have appropriate documentation of current US-issued rabies vaccine
  • Additional requirements for dogs that have been ONLY in countries that are dog rabies-free or low-risk in the 6 months before entry

Dogs that do not meet all entry requirements or do not have accurate and valid forms will be denied entry to the United States and returned to the country of departure at the importer’s expense. These requirements apply to all dogs, including service dogs and dogs that were born in the United States.

Specific requirements depend on whether the dog has been in a high-risk country for dog rabies  in the past 6 months.

Dogs with a current rabies vaccination administered in the United States that have been in a high-risk country for dog rabies must:

  • Meet all requirements in the “All Dogs” section above
  • The Certification of U.S.-issued Rabies Vaccination form is required for the importation (re-entry) of U.S.-vaccinated dogs that have been in high-risk countries for dog rabies  within the 6 months before re-entry into the United States.
  • Please note, during the transition period, the importer may instead present a copy of the USDA endorsed export health certificate that was used to ship the dog from the United States, if that export health certificate documents the dog’s age (at least 6 months), the microchip number, and valid rabies vaccination administered in the United States. The rabies vaccination must be valid (not expired) on the date of return or the form will be invalid.
  • Arrive at the location listed on the CDC Dog Import Form receipt (This can be any airport, land border crossing, or sea port but you must select this location when you complete the CDC Dog Import Form.)

Dogs with a current rabies vaccination administered in the United States that have NOT been in a high-risk country in the last 6 months must:

  • A Certification of U.S.-Issued Rabies Vaccine form that was endorsed by USDA before the dog departed the United States; or
  • Document a valid (unexpired) rabies vaccination administered in the United States (the form will be valid for the duration of the rabies vaccination (1 or 3 years)).
  • Arrive at the location listed on the CDC Dog Import Form receipt (This can be any airport, land border crossing, or sea port but you must select this location when you complete the CDC Dog Import Form .)

Important information about the Certification of U.S.-Issued Rabies Vaccination Form

The Certification of U.S.-Issued Rabies Vaccination form must be completed before the dog departs the U.S. Before asking your veterinarian to complete this form, verify the following requirements will be met:

  • Ensure your dog will be at least 6 months of age on date of return to the U.S.
  • Have your dog microchipped with an International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-compatible microchip (implanted before any required rabies vaccinations)
  • Ensure the veterinarian scans the dog for the ISO-compatible microchip and records the microchip number at the time of vaccine appointment. Rabies vaccines administered prior to microchip implantation will not be considered valid.
  • Ensure the rabies vaccination will be valid for the entire duration of your travels. If your dog’s U.S.-issued rabies vaccination lapses while overseas and your dog has been in a high-risk country in the past 6 months, your dog will need to be revaccinated overseas and meet requirements for foreign-vaccinated dogs to return to the U.S., including having a rabies serology titer, arriving at a specific port of entry, and possible quarantine requirements.
  • Your dog’s first rabies vaccination must be administered at least 28 days before travel.
  • Ensure the veterinarian submits this form to the USDA for official endorsement through the VEHCS portal
  • Your dog must travel with a printed copy of the official endorsed form upon your dog’s return to the United States if your dog has been in a high-risk country within the 6 months before returning to the U.S.

During the transition period, U.S.-vaccinated dogs that have been in a high-risk country in the past 6 months, may have either the Certification of U.S.-Issued Rabies Vaccination form or the USDA endorsed export health certificate for re-entry into the United States. Without one of these forms your dog will need to meet the requirements specific to the risk category of the countries where they have been in the 6 months before returning to the United States.

The export health certificate must document the dog’s age (at least 6 months), microchip number, and the rabies vaccination date. The rabies vaccine must be valid (not expired) on the date of return or the form will be invalid.

Requirements for foreign-vaccinated dogs that have been in a country with high risk of dog rabies within 6 months before entry

Dogs, including service dogs, that have been in a country at high-risk for dog rabies within the 6 months before entry and do not have appropriate documentation of current U.S.-issued rabies vaccine must:

  • Meet all requirements in the “All Dogs” section
  • Ensure the dog is microchipped with an International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-compatible microchip before receiving the rabies vaccination and the number is recorded on the veterinary documents or the vaccine will not be considered valid
  • Verify the dog is at least 12 weeks (84 days) of age when vaccinated against rabies
  • The dog must have a valid (i.e., non-expired) rabies vaccination. If it’s the dog’s first vaccination or if the dog’s vaccination coverage has lapsed, the vaccine must be administered at least 28 days before arrival to the United States.
  • The Certification of Foreign Rabies Vaccination and Microchip form must be completed by your veterinarian AND endorsed by an official veterinarian in the exporting country.
  • The blood sample for the rabies serology titer must have been drawn at least 30 days after the dog’s first valid rabies vaccination and at least 28 days before entry to the U.S.
  • Dogs with a history of multiple valid rabies vaccinations administered after the microchip was placed may have the sample for the rabies serology titer drawn at any time after a rabies booster vaccination as long as the dog’s first vaccine was given at least 30 days before the blood sample was drawn and there has been no lapse in vaccine coverage. If a lapse occurs, the sample must be drawn at least 30 days after the valid booster vaccination was administered.
  • The sample must be sent to a CDC-approved rabies serology laboratory . If there is no CDC-approved laboratory in your country, your veterinarian may draw the sample and send it internationally to a CDC-approved laboratory.
  • Passing results must be obtained in order for a serology to be valid.
  • Rabies serology titer results will be considered valid for the life of the dog as long as the dog’s rabies vaccination coverage does not lapse. If a lapse occurs, a new rabies serology titer will be required and that sample must be drawn at least 30 days after the new vaccination was administered.
  • If the dog does not have a valid rabies serology titer, it will be required to be quarantined at a CDC-registered animal care facility for 28 days after the dog is revaccinated by the facility’s veterinarian.
  • All foreign-vaccinated dogs that have been in a high-risk country in the previous 6 months must have a reservation for examination, verification of age, documents, and microchip number, and administration of a rabies booster vaccination at a CDC-registered animal care facility immediately upon arrival in the United States.
  • Dogs that do not have a valid rabies serology titer must also have a reservation for quarantine. Dogs will be quarantined at the facility for 28 days at the importer’s expense after being revaccinated by the facility’s veterinarian.
  • All CDC-registered animal care facility expenses, including exam, revaccination, and quarantine (if required), are the responsibility of the importer.
  • The facility will need copies of all required documents prior to confirming your reservation.
  • Ensure the dog meets any facility-specific requirements (contact facility for additional information).
  • If after arrival the CDC-registered animal care facility determines that your documents are not valid or the dog’s microchip number, age, or description does not match the paperwork provided, the dog may be denied entry and returned to the country of departure at your expense.
  • Dogs that have evidence of illness or are not healthy will be required to have testing to confirm they do not have contagious diseases before they will be eligible for release, which may extend the required quarantine period beyond 28 days. Any required testing or extended stay in quarantine will be at the importer’s expense, so please ensure dogs are healthy upon arrival (including no evidence of fleas, ticks, or skin diseases).
  • Dogs must arrive to the U.S. at the airport where the CDC-registered animal care facility is located. This must be the location where the dog has a reservation.
  • This must also be the airport listed on the CDC Dog Import Form
  • Domestic flights or other forms of travel to other locations in the U.S. are not permitted until after the dog receives required follow-up services at the CDC-registered animal care facility and is cleared for entry.
  • SERVICE DOGS ARRIVING BY SEA : Service dogs, as defined in 14 CFR 382.3, may arrive by sea if they meet the requirements in the “All Dogs” section, have a complete Certification of Foreign Rabies Vaccination and Microchip form and a valid rabies serology titer, and are traveling with their handler. Emotional support animals are not service animals under this definition.

Countries that are not on the list of countries at high risk for dog rabies  are considered to be free of or low risk for dog-mediated rabies virus variant (DMRVV) (called dog rabies-free or low-risk countries on these webpages).

Dogs, including service dogs, that have been ONLY in dog rabies-free or low-risk countries during the 6 months before entry into the United States must:

  • Certification of Foreign Rabies Vaccination and Microchip form, including the endorsement by an official veterinarian of the dog rabies-free or low-risk country where the dog has been located; AND EITHER (1) a valid rabies serology titer OR (2) veterinary records* (which list the microchip number) for the dog from the exporting country for the previous 6 months. The form must be completed within 30 days before arrival to the United States.
  • Certification of U.S.-Issued Rabies Vaccination form that was endorsed by USDA before the dog departed the United States
  • Is for the dog rabies-free or low-risk country where the dog’s return itinerary originated (the form will only be valid for 30 days if it does not contain rabies vaccination information), or
  • Documents a valid (unexpired) rabies vaccination administered in the United States (the form will be valid for the duration of the rabies vaccination (1 or 3 years)).
  • Certification of Dog Arriving from DMRVV-free or Low-Risk Country into the United States form endorsed by an official veterinarian in the exporting country; AND veterinary records* (which list the microchip number) for the dog from the exporting country for the 6 months before traveling to the U.S. The form must be completed within the 30 days before arriving to the United States.
  • Foreign export certificate that documents the dog is at least 6 months of age, lists the dog’s International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-compatible microchip number, and has been endorsed by an official veterinarian of the exporting country; AND veterinary records* (which list the microchip number) for the dog from the exporting country for the previous 6 months
  • Arrive at the location listed on the CDC Dog Import Form receipt (This can be any airport, land border crossing, or sea port but you must select it when you complete the CDC Dog Import Form .)

Any documentation that is not from the United States must be completed in the country where the dog’s travel originates. For example, if the dog’s documents were issued in France, the dog may not enter the U.S. via a land-border crossing from Mexico to the U.S.

*Examples of veterinary records that must accompany completed forms are European Union pet passports or proof of payment for veterinary services received in the exporting low-risk country for the previous 6 months. Records must include the dog’s microchip number.

How to safely get across Holy Island causeway as another rescue mission launches

After countless warnings from the coastguard, drivers are still taking unnecessary risks on the road to Holy Island.

The teams at Berwick and Holy Island Coastguard stations and the Seahouses and Berwick RNLI were called into action on Friday afternoon - along with the Coastguard helicopter - to save two people and a dog who were stuck on the roof of their car , which was stranded by the tide on the causeway .

Each year dozens of drivers and caught out and have to be rescued, forcing lifeboats and even helicopters to rush to the submerged road. So here’s how to make the journey to the historic beauty spot safely.

  • Read more: 'You can't outrun the sea' warning after second Holy Island causeway rescue in two days
  • Read more: German tourists stranded on Holy Island Causeway before being rescued by Seahouses RNLI

Anyone who thinks they or someone else is in danger should call 999 immediately and ask for the coastguard.

How can I find out when it is safe to cross?

Warning signs at either end of the road display the safe crossing times for that day or warnings to check the tides. Motorists can also check the crossing times online by visiting holyislandcrossingtimes.northumberland.gov.uk . Visitors are advised to leave half an hour extra around these times for their journey, to account for bad weather or unusually high tides.

There’s only a little water visible — surely I can make it?

It’s not worth the risk. Cars can easily break down in a little water. Smart Driving - the UK’s leading driver training organisation - says motorists are putting their lives at risk by driving through flood water.

The company says just six inches of water can cause loss of control or possible stalling as water is sucked into the exhaust or washes into the air intake. Drivers are warned that many cars start to float in as little as one foot of water, which can be extremely dangerous because the wheels start to lose grip.

And the company says just two feet of flowing water can sweep away most vehicles, including large four-wheel drive cars. Not only that, but the crossing is a mile long and tides move quickly — it might look clear when you start your drive, but the water can rise quickly.

What are the consequences of being rescued on the causeway?

Drivers cannot be fined because they have been rescued by the emergency services. However, it can cost taxpayers tens of thousands of pounds each year to rescue motorists who attempt to beat the tide.

Figures from the Ministry of Defence show a sea rescue costs approximately £1,900, while an air rescue by the RAF costs more than £4,000. If your car is stuck and damaged, you could also face a hefty repair bill.

Are more drivers getting caught in the rising tides?

Holy Island Coastguard released the following statement: "At the beginning of this week Holy Island Coastguard Rescue Officers were celebrating that it had been 8 months since the last causeway rescue, we thought the message was starting to get through.

"Since Tuesday, we have had 4 causeway jobs in 3 days. If you are planning to visit Holy Island, please check the tide times. These are available online, on big electronic boards as you arrive to the island, on numerous notice boards around the island & available in most businesses on the island.

"Even more importantly, if you find yourself on the causeway & water is on the road, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS, turn around, head back in to the village [and] keep safe."

The Coastguard added: "If in doubt, and especially if the water has reached the causeway, do not attempt to cross. You cannot outrun the North Sea! If you see anyone in danger on our cliffs, coastline or on the water, ALWAYS dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

animal crossing travel island

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

animal crossing travel island

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

animal crossing travel island

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

animal crossing travel island

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

animal crossing travel island

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

animal crossing travel island

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

animal crossing travel island

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

<< Previous page

Pages:  379-406

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
