Chateau Haut-Coutelin Description
For more than a century, this estate has been owned by the Estager family. Chateau Haut Tour de Coutelin spreads across 30 continuous hectares, in the heart of the Saint Estephe appellation. It is situated on the Coutelin mound, which is the highest point of the Saint Estephe village. With this exceptional terroir, this is a powerful, well-balanced and harmonious wine.

From Saint-Estèphe, Bordeaux wine region, Chateau Tour Coutelin 2015 is a full-bodied 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc red wine blend. The winery is located in Leyssac, between Château Calon Ségur in the North and Château Cos D’Estournel in the South. Vineyards at the highest point in Saint-Estèphe have produced this richly structured wine, typical of the appellation. The black fruits along with the spicy character are still behind the tannins. It needs time, so drink from 2024. Look for juicy blackberry, cassis, dark plum, and fresh raspberry leaf, crushed raspberries, savoury herb flavours on the palate with a lingering white pepper spice and flinty finish. Grapes are hand-harvested, and the wine is matured in oak barrels for one year of which 10 to 15 % are new barrels. 2016 Château Vieux Coutelin, Saint-Estèphe

This 11 hectare property is planted on the well-drained sand and gravel of the Coutelin commune, and some of the parcels are believed to have originally been part of the Lafon-Rochet estate. Chris Cardon, a Belgian businessman, took over in 2015 and brought in Eric Boissenot to consult. They make an approachable style of Saint Estèphe with a density of ripe fruit to balance the tannins.
