Cynthia is an avid traveler who previously spent time living in several European countries, where she eventually met her Danish husband of 27 years. She now resides in the Sunshine State with one daughter, while the other is away at college. Cynthia is known for frequently trying to escape the heat by going to any cold weather destination and will also fly to Europe on a whim, much to the chagrin of her family and the BACH team. She has been the recipient of many industry awards, and she utilizes those wonderful relationships with travel suppliers around the globe to take an ordinary trip idea and turn it into an extraordinary experience for her clients.    Destinations I can’t get enough of: Italy…because it’s Italy. Scandinavia as a whole because the air is fresh and the people are happy. I love a mountain destination that has great views, with a drink in my hand and live music playing. Africa, with its spectacular wildlife and geography, is a place that stays with you long after you return home. It’s one of the most unique and special travel experiences I’ve ever had. At the end of the day, I’m happiest when traveling anywhere with my family – whose initials make up the name of our company, BACH Travels.

Meet our founder, Cynthia Madsen

A seasoned traveler, Kelly enjoys all types of adventure. Whether she’s diving with penguins in the Galapagos, wine tasting in the South of France, or skiing through fresh powder from the summit of Whistler Mountain, she knows that planning with the experts is the best way to get the most out of each precious travel moment. Originally from Miami Shores, Kelly is a graduate of one of the top hospitality programs in the world, Rosen School of Hospitality Management. She now resides with her husband, her son, and their five rescue pets in The City Beautiful — Orlando, Florida. Destinations I can’t get enough of: The beauty and culture of Hawaii, especially on the Garden Isle of Kauai is why I can never get enough of the Aloha State. You can find me in my happy place sitting in the sun at a beach club in Ibiza – those bohemian vibes, shimmering blue water, and live music. Perfection. I love riding alongside locals on a bike in Amsterdam, finding a random cafe or boutique off the tourist’s beaten path, and then cruising the enchanting canal ring after sundown.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Jessica followed her love of sunshine and now resides in Orlando, Florida. She joined the BACH team as a seasoned traveler and a mother of two little ones. She loves taking advantage of living in one of the most popular vacation destinations by enjoying many staycations with her family throughout the Sunshine State. Jessica applies her skill set as a marathon runner and distance swimmer to the trip planning process, making sure every detail is in order for the team when bringing a client’s vision to life. She enjoys how each request is unique, from honeymoons to wellness retreats, family staycations, to adventure expeditions, and loves adding our personalized touch to our client’s travel memories. Destinations I can’t get enough of: Anywhere with white, soft sand and clear blue water with a drink in my hand is where I want to be. Grace Bay Beach is definitely one of my favorites. A good morning run with ocean views is my perfect way to start the day. 

Born and raised in New York, Michelle spent 20 years in Florida working in hospitality and the tennis industry. She and her family now call Charleston, South Carolina home where they take full advantage of the amazing cuisine, beautiful beaches, and rich history. Michelle uses her organizational skills to help keep things at BACH running smoothly behind the scenes.  Destinations I can’t get enough of: I’m a city girl and love exploring the greatest cities in the world. New York City was my home for years, and I love that it’s different every time I return. Rome and Florence because I love history, art, and cheese. Paris and London never disappoint either.

Summer travel is on all of our minds, and it’s quickly approaching. Most of us want to pack our bags and head straight to a warm beach to bask in the sun and read a good novel. With inflation on the rise and wallets tighter than ever, the simple pleasures of a beach vacation can feel out of reach for many Americans, but never fear.

GOBankingRates spoke to travel experts to find out where you can go to get all the beauty of Hawaii or Miami at a fraction of the price. Here are six cheap places to travel in 2024 that feel like a luxury beach vacation . 

Destin, Florida

When it comes to affordable beach vacations that feel luxurious, Destin in northwest Florida is a top contender. “With the summer season just around the corner, many people across the States are planning their well-deserved beach vacations,” said Mercedes Zach, a travel agent at ASAP Tickets . “While some prefer more luxurious and expensive holiday packages, most are looking for budget-friendly travel options that still provide a high-end experience.”

Zach recommended Destin as a perfect beach getaway with picture-perfect views. “It’s known for its Emerald Coast beaches, many golf courses and the Destin Harbor Boardwalk. Destin also has a white sandy coastline with crystal clear waters that make it perfect for a beach getaway, giving out Caribbean vibes without having to fly there,” Zach said. “Plus, there are plenty of great beach rentals to choose from for as little as $100 per night, located close to shopping and fine dining spots.”

Huntington Beach, California  

On the West Coast, Huntington Beach in California offers an excellent and affordable beach vacation. “Also known as the surf city of the U.S. with an easy-going vibe, Huntington Beach in California is an excellent holiday destination on the West Coast that’s more affordable and less crowded than nearby Santa Monica, San Diego or Los Angeles,” Zach said.

She highlighted the many activities available, saying, “It features a 10-mile stretch of uninterrupted sand and offers everything from surfing, biking, paddle boarding and kayaking to volleyball tournaments, skateboarding competitions, oceanfront dining and romantic sunsets by the bonfire.”

And this destination won’t break the bank. “With vacation rentals going for around $120 per night, Huntington Beach is a budget-friendly and fascinating travel destination to visit any time of the year,” Zach said.

Caribbean All-Inclusive Resorts

For those seeking an international tropical escape, Zach suggested the Caribbean as an affordable option, particularly when choosing an all-inclusive resort. “Whether you’re looking for a romantic couple’s trip or some quality time away with the family, Caribbean resorts such as Iberostar Dominicana in Punta Cana, BlueBay Villas Doradas in Puerto Plata or Bahia Principe Grand El Portillo in Las Terrenas deliver great service, fun sports activities and breathtaking views for every taste for as little as $200 per night for two people,” she said.

“The price for all these amenities can drop even as low as $160 per couple per night in the least busy months and with some affordable dates in the shoulder seasons,” Zach added. “A tropical Caribbean vacation can, in fact, be a lot cheaper than you would expect if you aim for less expensive islands such as Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico or Curacao.”

She highlighted the many activities available in Puerto Escondido, saying, “The surf town of Puerto Escondido in the state of Oaxaca is famous for its untouched beaches, bohemian vibe and plenty of things to see and do around, especially if you are a water sports enthusiast. Puerto Escondido offers you everything from snorkeling, swimming among the marine life, seeing dolphins in their natural habitat, trying out sport fishing, releasing newborn turtles and taking surf lessons to exploring the nearby beaches, such as Huatulco and the Bay of Carrizalillo.”

Zach also recommended affordable accommodations in the area. “Located near the wide and long Zicatela Beach, a marvelously mellow beach-side neighborhood, Casa de Olas Boutique Hotel is one of the many affordably priced accommodations to choose from, which has free bikes, a fitness center, a garden and a shared lounge. 300 meters from Zicatela Beach and 4 kilometers from Commercial Walkway, this property provides a terrace and a bar, as well as evening entertainment and room service for as little as $85 per night for a double room,” she said.

Florida Keys

For a tropical island getaway closer to home, Caroline Teel, executive editor at SmarterTravel , recommended the Florida Keys. “Dreaming of a tropical island getaway? You don’t have to go far (or spend a lot) to find paradise — the Florida Keys feel like an exotic vacation, minus the passport requirements and big budgets,” she said.

Teel suggested a scenic road trip to reach the Keys. “Snag a cheap flight into Miami or Fort Lauderdale, and then take one of the most scenic roads in America down to the Florida Keys,” she said.

She also advised on where to stay based on your desired vibe. “Head all the way south to Key West for a party vibe or stop in one of the middle keys for a more romantic and relaxing vacation. Luxury boutique hotels abound here, and it’s easy to find an affordable option,” Teel said.

Florida’s Space Coast

Peter Cranis, executive director at the Space Coast Office of Tourism , shared that Florida’s Space Coast — located about 45 minutes from Orlando — is filled with picturesque seaside sunrises and amazing food, plus you can witness rocket launches straight to space.

“Rocket launches occur year-round on the Space Coast, and this once-in-a-lifetime experience is completely free to view,” Cranis said.

If rocket launches aren’t your thing, there are plenty of beachy activities to keep you busy. “You don’t have to leave the country to experience glowing bioluminescent waters! Immerse yourself in nature’s magic and take a see-through kayak over bioluminescent lagoons and watch the water sparkle with luminescent organisms. It’s like underwater fireworks!” Cranis said.

The Space Coast is also known for sea turtles. “The Space Coast is home to some of the largest and most significant sea turtle nesting grounds in the U.S.,” Cranis added. “Visitors have the rare opportunity to witness these ancient creatures coming ashore to lay their eggs or watch hatchlings make their way to the sea.”

The state of tourism and hospitality 2024

Tourism and hospitality are on a journey of disruption. Shifting source markets and destinations, growing demand for experiential and luxury travel, and innovative business strategies are all combining to dramatically alter the industry landscape. Given this momentous change, it’s important for stakeholders to consider and strategize on four major themes:

• The bulk of travel is close to home. Although international travel might draw headlines, stakeholders shouldn’t neglect the big opportunities in their backyards. Domestic travel still represents the bulk of travel spending, and intraregional tourism is on the rise.
• Consumers increasingly prioritize travel—when it’s on their own terms. Interest in travel is booming, but travelers are no longer content with a one-size-fits-all experience. Individual personalization might not always be practical, but savvy industry players can use segmentation and hypothesis-driven testing to improve their value propositions. Those that fail to articulate target customer segments and adapt their offerings accordingly risk getting left behind.
• The face of luxury travel is changing. Demand for luxury tourism and hospitality is expected to grow faster than any other travel segment today—particularly in Asia. It’s crucial to understand that luxury travelers don’t make up a monolith. Segmenting by age, nationality, and net worth can reveal varied and evolving preferences and behaviors.
• As tourism grows, destinations will need to prepare to mitigate overcrowding. Destinations need to be ready to handle the large tourist flows of tomorrow. Now is the time for stakeholders to plan, develop, and invest in mitigation strategies. Equipped with accurate assessments of carrying capacities and enhanced abilities to gather and analyze data, destinations can improve their transportation and infrastructure, build tourism-ready workforces, and preserve their natural and cultural heritages.

Now boarding: Faces, places, and trends shaping tourism in 2024

Global travel is back and buzzing. The amount of travel fell by 75 percent in 2020; however, travel is on its way to a full recovery by the end of 2024. More regional trips, an emerging population of new travelers, and a fresh set of destinations are powering steady spending in tourism.

There’s no doubt that people still love to travel and will continue to seek new experiences in new places. But where will travelers come from, and where will they go?

We share a snapshot of current traveler flows, along with estimates for growth through 2030.

The way we travel now

Which trends are shaping traveler sentiment now? What sorts of journeys do today’s travelers dream about? How much are they willing to spend on their trips? And what should industry stakeholders do to adapt to the traveler psychology of the moment?

To gauge what’s on the minds of present-day travelers, we surveyed more than 5,000 of them. The findings reveal disparate desires, generational divides, and a newly emerging set of traveler archetypes.

Updating perceptions about today’s luxury traveler

Demand for luxury tourism and hospitality is expected to grow faster than for any other segment. This growth is being powered in part by a large and expanding base of aspiring luxury travelers with net worths between $100,000 and $1 million, many of whom are younger and increasingly willing to spend larger shares of their wealth on upscale travel options. The increase is also a result of rising wealth levels in Asia.

We dug deeper into this ongoing evolution by surveying luxury travelers around the globe about their preferences, plans, and expectations. Some widely held notions about luxury travelers—such as how much money they have, how old they are, and where they come from—could be due for reexamination.

Destination readiness: Preparing for the tourist flows of tomorrow

As global tourism grows, it will be crucial for destinations to be ready. How can the tourism ecosystem prepare to host unprecedented volumes of visitors while managing the challenges that can accompany this success? A large flow of tourists, if not carefully channeled, can encumber infrastructure, harm natural and cultural attractions, and frustrate locals and visitors alike.

Now is the time for tourism stakeholders to combine their thinking and resources to look for better ways to handle the visitor flows of today while properly preparing themselves for the visitor flows of tomorrow. When deciding which hotel to choose for your stay in a city like Naples, it is sensible to consider the extra extras a hotel club lounge provides. Offerings usually include complimentary drinks and snacks throughout the day, breakfast in the morning, and evening cocktails with canapés. Often , the evening food and drink offering is more than enough to replace the need to go out for the evening. The clubrooms themselves are often a little bigger and offer more luxurious facilities than standard rooms, with more space, plus they are often on higher floors with better views.

Finally, executive and club benefits are great for early check-in / late check-out as you can often stay in the club lounge room with all the benefits in the afternoon if you have a late flight. Conversely, you can use the club lounge and executive facilities from early in the morning if you arrive early and your room isn’t ready.

I have compiled a list below containing the club lounges available across luxury hotels in Naples. I list the ones I consider to be the best at the top. Both Ritz-Carlton’s in Naples have Club lounges, which are the best hotel choices in the area. The Ritz-Carlton Naples Golf Resort is ten minutes away by car or resort shuttle from The Ritz-Carlton Naples Beach. Whichever Ritz-Carlton resort you choose, the shuttle between the resorts means that you can enjoy all the amenities of each resort, so you won’t miss out on one by choosing the other.

The Ritz-Carlton Naples Beach is an impressive five-star with soaring floor-to-ceiling windows and chandeliers. It is ideal for families, weddings (there is a marvelous Vanderbilt Ballroom), and conventions. It is much larger than the golf resort up the road and more impressive.

They say Marvel at the stunning views from one of the private balconies at The Ritz-Carlton, Naples, with three miles of immaculate beach to explore. Here on the Gulf of Mexico, guests are pampered with championship golf, the 2017 Best of the Best award-winning family program, a world-class spa, two swimming pools, an array of beach activities, and seven distinctive restaurants. Each of the resort’s 450 guestrooms and suites offers Frette linens and a private balcony for stunning Gulf views. As for the golf, tee off on the Tiburon Golf Course, designed by Greg Norman. The 51,000 ft² spa is a welcome retreat with 33 treatment rooms.

Pros of the Ritz-Carlton Naples Beach Resort include:

• Stunning Gulf of Mexico views from your room
• Gorgeous beach reached by a wooden walkway
• Super pool with water slides for the kids
• Excellent spa and fitness center with its many exercise classes
• Drop-off, supervised kids’ club for those aged 5 through 12 years & children’s scavenger hunt. Excellent activities are included in half and full-day sessions. Animal education with real-life animals, along with snacks and crafts to take home are all included
• For teens there is a video game room at the Beach Resort
• Beautiful sunsets

The club lounge feels intimate and cozy when compared to other resorts in Florida, such as the Ritz-Carlton Orlando. It offers 5 meals daily and an excellent breakfast with three hot stations with bacon, scrambled eggs, and pieces of French toast or pancakes. There’s a cold buffet of smoked salmon, charcuterie, fruits and yogurt, and muffins, croissants, and bread. There are also gluten-free options. A Nespresso machine can be used for coffee.

At lunch, there’s bread, deli meat, and sliced cheese to make sandwiches, wraps, small sandwiches, chicken, and salad.

The club lounge champagne is Pommery and is available in Brut and Rose throughout the day, as are soft drinks and cookies (5 different types). There are sunset views from the lounge if you don’t want to go to the beach.

In the evening, there are hor d’ouvres and chef-prepared dishes.

The Ritz-Carlton Naples Golf Resort feels like a country club. It seems to appeal to the older generation who like to enjoy golf or treat their families, including the kids, to a slice of country-club-style luxury in a golf setting. A nice touch is a cart of cocktail samples during happy hour and a gelato cart.

Pros of the Ritz-Carlton Naples Golf Resort include:

• More peaceful, smaller resort
• More personal service
• Better value (usually cheaper)
• Nice family suites
• Padded playroom for kids
• Video game stations, a small movie theatre, and a playground for young children
• Golf and excellent golf tuition for kids and adults
• Tennis courts
• Golf resort views
• “Camping Out” package for your children, which is basically a tent set up in the room with a space book and activities, a star-producing night light, and a telescope

The club lounge at the Golf Resort is only open for the high season from around the end of December through the end of May. It offers five meals daily and an excellent breakfast with hot stations with bacon, scrambled eggs, and pieces of French toast or pancakes. There’s a cold buffet of smoked salmon, charcuterie, fruits and yogurt and muffins, croissants, and bread. There are also gluten-free options. The offering is very similar to the other Ritz resort.

It doesn’t have a fancy coffee machine, but breakfast was just as good. The hosts remember your preferences. They offered my almond milk and stevia for my coffee the following morning without asking.

The golf resort’s dinner buffet is more impressive than the beach club lounge, with more mains and a guitarist.

In fact, the rates at the Ritz Golf Resort tend to be around half the Ritz-Carlton Naples Beach Resort, and their family suites are incredibly comfortable. This may be because of the room size. A large, club-level suite at the Golf Resort is around the same in size as a guest room with two double beds at the Beach Resort.

Both Ritz-Carlton Naples resorts offer family pools. The Beach Resort is more crowded as it is much larger but has the beach, too, where you can enjoy a beach cabana with a snack basket, suntan lotion, aloe vera gel, magazines, an ice bucket, and fruit. A nice touch at the Beach Resort is a poolside glassblower on weekends to assist guests in making a special keepsake, and the pool has a waterslide and tropical surroundings. The Golf Resort pool has loads of pool toys but no beach.

The Golf Resort has its own fitness room, but the wellness features are much better at the Beach Resort. Several fitness classes are offered each day, mostly for a fee of around $25 USD, including spinning and pilates classes. The Beach Resort has the best spa, which has just had a facelift. It is huge, with treatment rooms, a cafe, a mineral pool, a terrace, and a large boutique.

The west-facing location of the Ritz-Carlton Naples Beach Resort offers spectacular sunsets overlooking the Gulf of Mexico.

The beach resort rooms were refurbished in 2013, with yellow curtains reflecting the beach, sunshine, and blues, bringing the ocean inside. Rooms have two double beds, not queens, or you can upgrade to rooms with two queen beds named “Large.” For families of three, the King rooms have a chaise that can be pulled out to form a twin bed.

A large, club-level suite at the Golf Resort is around the same in size as a guest room with two double beds at the Beach Resort, so the Beach Resort rooms are larger.

Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort offers rooms with two double beds, and adjoining rooms are available. King rooms contain a twin sleeper sofa for a third person. Balconies tend to have golf course views.

The Ritz-Carlton Naples Beach Resort Gumbo Limbo is the highlight for its sunset views and early evening for drinks on Vanderbilt Beach. Dishes include seafood, salads, and burgers.

Mezzo is probably your best pick at the golf resort, with Mediterranean-influenced cuisine and a guitarist playing luxury resort-style tunes.

Both resorts also have an excellent “Grill” with nice seafood and meat dishes and a kids’ menu too.

Both the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort and the Ritz-Carlton Naples Beach Resort are excellent hotels. Your choice depends on your budget and preference for golf over the beach and the sunset. We prefer the beach resort as we like to dip our toes into the surf as the sunsets. Both club lounges are excellent, although the food at the golf resort is more extensive if you don’t want to pay to eat out.
