places to visit in seoul for seventeen fans

Since Seoul is the capital of South Korea and has plenty of places to explore, SEVENTEEN revealed four places that a traveler to the country has to experience at least once.

1. Gyeongbokgung Palace

The first destination was none other than the beautiful home of the Joseon Dynasty’s kings. Jeonghan recommended Gyeongbokgung Palace for travelers to “ experience [Korean] culture and tradition. ”

2. Han River

Switching gears from a historical environment to one of relaxation, leader S.Coups couldn’t go without recommending the ever-popular Han River. Seungkwan  pointed out the “ quite nice ” view while S.Coups noted all the “ diverse things you can do there. ”

One of those things was eating “ delicious food. ” Joshua revealed that a park outing can turn into a picnic by ordering food right to the actual park.

You can order delivery when you’re at Hangang, at the park. And you just have to tell them where you are, and they deliver it straight to you. — Joshua

While the members had memories of exercising and playing basketball at the Han River Park, Dino picked up a biking hobby he thinks everyone should try.

Speaking as a person who recently started riding bicycles quite frequently by the river, it’s an activity and hobby that I strongly recommend: riding by the Han River. — Dino

3. Apgujeong

Mingyu emphasized how important it was to visit a “ hot spot ” like Apgujeong or Garosugil to become immersed in the hustle and bustle of Korea’s city life.

Walk down the roads; take in the vibe. Go wherever your heart takes you. That’s the fun in traveling. — Mingyu

4. HYBE Museum

Taking a sudden turn, Woozi surprised them by naming HYBE’s museum, where fans can check out items from the company’s artists or purchase bakery treats.

Not only is HYBE INSIGHT a comforting place for the members, but Woozi shared that it was designed to appeal to a variety of tastes.

We visited HYBE INSIGHT, and it was so nice. And well-curated so that many people could enjoy the space. And because I’m basically in that area throughout the year—for all four seasons—it’s just comfortable for me. — Woozi

Bonus: A SEVENTEEN Concert

Naturally, a trip to the capital wouldn’t be complete without adding a SEVENTEEN in Seoul concert to your trip.

If You're A K-Pop Fan Visiting Korea, Check Out These Places

From BTS murals to idol-owned cafes, there's something for every K-pop fan.

Grace Lee

BuzzFeed Contributor

South Korea recently announced that they're lifting the previously mandatory quarantine period for vaccinated guests. What does this mean? A trip to South Korea ASAP.

For all my k-pop fans, this is the perfect time to check out cafes and hot spots affiliated with your favorite k-pop stars, here are 12 places in south korea to add to your travel itinerary:, 1. aweol monsant.

View this photo on Instagram

Address:  2546 Aewol-ri, Aewol-eup, Cheju, Jeju-do

Planning a trip to Jeju Island after exploring Seoul? If so, you have to stop by this beautiful cafe. It's owned by G-Dragon himself, with the interior reflecting a lot of his stylish personality. The glass windows inside the cafe make the space look very big and spacious, but the outside terrace is the more breathtaking part. If you go right at sunset, you'll enjoy beautiful Jeju Island views.

2. The SamE

Cafe entrance interior

Address:  6-3, Huiujeong-ro 1-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul

The SamE is the perfect stop to get all your favorite YG artist merch. The company created it as a space for YG artist fans to chill and get to know their favorite idols. There are two floors in this cafe, and the basement houses artist and cafe merchandise. The whole cafe has a somewhat futuristic aspect to it and you'll often see the slogan, "Alter Ego," sprinkled within the space. The menu has refreshing drinks, cake-like donuts, and more delicious sweets.

3. Cafe Dudart

Interior of Cafe Dudart

Address:  642-15 Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul

Located in the bustling city of Apugeong, this cafe is the definition of hip. The black exterior of the building and neon interior lights can only point to one thing: AOMG. Although this cafe is a chain franchise, this particular location has a partnership with AOMG, formerly Jay Park's company. Not only do they sell desserts, but they also have an actual restaurant menu of hot dogs , sandwiches, and more.

Address:  1678-4 Seocho 1(il)-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul

This super cute cafe is owned by Exo Kai's sister. There are tons of seating options and it has an artistic feel with much of the space filled with artwork. Most of their menu contains refreshing drinks, baked goods, and sweet treats. If you're lucky, you might even run into Kai, who's a regular there. Fun fact: the cafe name, Kamong, is a combination of Kai and Monggu, his dog.

5. Yogorino

Address:  339-1, Seo-gyo dong, Ma-po gu

Looking for a place to cool down from the hot weather? This is the perfect spot. Owned by Zico's father, this frozen yogurt and coffee shop. The brand itself is actually an Italian ice cream franchise, but Zico opened up a store for his father back in 2016. Because it's located at the heart of Hongdae, it's the perfect place to grab a bite of froyo before you continue shopping.

6. HopeWorld

"Chicken Noodle Soup" artwork

Address: K-Pop Star Street, Chungjang-ro, Gwangju

Calling all BTS fans! This HopeWorld sculpture is the epitome of all things J-Hope. From a "Chicken Noodle Soup" painting to a colorful mural to a sculpture with engraved messages from fans, it's the perfect spot to celebrate J-Hope. In fact, the sculpture has over 21,800 messages from ARMYs all over the world. This iconic photo spot is located in the heart of Gwangju, J-Hope's hometown.

7. RM Forest

RM forest sign

Address:  65 Hangaram-ro, Jamsil 2(i)-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul (RM Forest 1) & 389 Ichon 2(i)-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul (RM Forest 2)

To celebrate RM's 26th birthday, fans created RM Forest 2 near the Han River Park, where fans could rest and enjoy the scenery. However, this forest holds a special meaning in that it's also to preserve the environment, which RM has been a big proponent of. There are actually two locations of this forest; RM Forest 1 is located in Jamsi Hangang Park and was built to celebrate RM's 25th birthday.

Exterior of Magnate cafe

Address:  1786-19, Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan

Owned by BTS's Jimin's father, Magate is a great cafe for those wantiong to just grab a cup of coffee and rest up. The interior is a combination of elegant, modern, and minimalist, with a grand chandelier at the center of the cafe. They're known for their coffee drinks and delicious pastries.

9. Ossu Seiromushi

Exterior of restaurant

Welcome to BTS's Jin and his brother's Japanese cuisine restaurant! This restaurant serves Japanese cuisine at a slightly higher price point, but tourists say their ingredients are always high class. It's the perfect place to enjoy a nice meal out with your family or friends.

10. Mouse Rabbit

Exterior of cafe

Address: 1 Neungdong-ro 11-gil, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul

This cafe is actually more of the well-known ones in the K-pop industry, considering that it's been featured in many of the idols' personal YouTube channels. It's owned by Super Junior's Yesung and his brother. It's a fairly large cafe with three floors, each with different vibes. To give a quick run-down of each floor: the basement is called the "rabbit hole" and gives off a homey feel with a fireplace and cozy tables; the first floor is the place for views with an open terrace and balcony; the second floor is decorated beautifully and shares the space with other stores. Overall, it's the perfect Instagram-photo location.

11. Caffe Soo

Suzy posing in the cafe

Address:  14-25 Usan-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju, South Korea

Cafe Soo's exterior and interior is covered with pictures of the "nation's first love" — Bae Suzy! Suzy gifted this cafe to her mother back in 2013. It's a cozy place with great coffee and loads of Suzy-related content. Although Gwangju is a bit of a drive from Korea, this cafe is a great place to visit if you're a fan of Suzy.

12. M Countdown

Woman and man mc'ing music show

Address:  Sangam Sanro 66, Mapo-gu, Seoul

You can actually go to a M Countdown pre-recording or actual show to see your favorite artists perform live! Every Wednesday, M Countdown will post a line-up on Facebook for the following Thursday, where you can check if your favorite groups are performing/making a comeback. On the day of, it's recommended that you go earlier to stand in the queue line. There are three tiers that determine when the staff will let you in. Tier 1 is for official fan club members; Tier 2 is for non-fan club members who have an album and proof of a purchase of a digital single on listening apps; Tier 3 is for non-fan club members who have their passports. If you do plan on attending, be sure to bring your passport.

13. Music Bank

Man and woman mc'ing for a music show

Music Bank runs on a slightly different method than M Countdown in terms of fans watching the pre-recording sessions. To be eligible to get in, you'll need to create a KBS account . From there, you can sign up from Thursday at 9 a.m. KST to Saturday 12 a.m. KST to be entered in a ticket lottery.

The ultimate K-Pop travel guide to Seoul

places to visit in seoul for seventeen fans

There’s nothing K-Pop can’t conquer. Ever since the Korean Wave (or Hallyu ) started around the beginning of the new millennium, it has swept over Asia and moved onto the rest of the world, making South Korea and its entertainment industry famous on a global scale. Today K-Pop idols and groups play in sold-out stadiums and arenas worldwide and have fans of every nationality that support them and want to see their home country, exploring its culture and food as well as its music.

If you’re also planning to wander around the streets of Seoul to retrace your favourite idol’s steps, then this is the perfect guide to everything there is to do and see in the birthplace of K-Pop.

The seven members of K-Pop boy band BTS pose in front of a video screen.

Entertainment companies and music shows

K-Pop fans know that it all begins with Korean entertainment companies – part music labels and part talent agencies, they’re places where idols train and then stay for generally the entirety of their careers. Their headquarters are a good place to start your K-Pop journey and who knows, you might be lucky enough to see your favourite idol arrive at the company for another work day!

Entertainment companies are all located in Seoul, the beating heart of the K-Pop industry, and they’re generally in the central areas of the city, like the famous Gangnam district.  SM Entertainment , the birthplace of groups like Girls’ Generations, Shinee, EXO and Red Velvet, is particularly worth a visit since it also has a special cultural space dedicated entirely to fans called SMTOWN@coexartium – it includes a museum of the company’s history, augmented reality spaces in which you can come face to (virtual) face with your favourite artists, and a hologram theatre for concerts and special performances, as well as a cafe and gift shop.

The four members of K-Pop girl group Blackpink pose on a pink-lit stage.

Another staple of the K-Pop industry are music shows, weekly television programmes where idols perform and promote their songs. Getting into one of the music shows isn't always easy and the method varies depending on which group you want to see, but if you plan in advance it might be your best shot at seeing your favourites perform live in front of you. However, depending on when you're visiting, you might be able to catch one of the big concerts instead – where multiple artists perform sets of their most famous hits. For example, the Lotte Family Concert is held around August in Seoul (while the Busan One Asia Festival takes place in Busan around late October or early November).

A shot of the carousel at the amusement park Lotte World.

Street sightseeing

Seoul, and especially Gangnam, fully recognises how much the K-Pop industry appeals to tourists, and has created plenty of opportunities for fans to “meet” their idols when they come to South Korea.

You might want to visit the G+Star Zone inside the Apgujeong Rodeo Station , for example, a cultural space entirely dedicated to the Korean Wave and its stars that includes various photo zones and video stations, with new celebrities being added each year as they rise to fame. The Star Avenue at Lotte Duty Free in Myeongdong follows the same idea – a corridor leading into one of Seoul’s bustling shopping areas filled with photos and handprints of idols, actors and other celebrities. Myeongdong is also the best place to get some of your K-Pop shopping done, since the Underground Shopping Centre has all the albums and merchandise you could wish for.

One of the K-Pop statues at the Gangnam K-Star ROAD.

A very cute attraction that you absolutely can’t miss is the K-Star ROAD , not too far away from Apgujeong Rodeo Station. The whole road is filled with dolls and statues representing specific K-Pop groups, more often than not also carrying the members’ signatures.

Cafes and restaurants

South Koreans love quirky and hip cafes , and K-Pop idols are no exception. Following their footsteps in and out of their favourite cafes couldn’t be easier, because most of them don’t make a secret of an idol’s visit. You’ll find pictures and memorabilia of famous patrons everywhere inside them, providing tourists with a perfect Instagram opportunity. Some cafes are even owned by idols, making your chances of meeting your favourite artists even higher.

For example, Kamong Café in Gangnam is owned by EXO’s Kai, and it’s an excellent place to try one of South Korea’s signature sweets, the bingsu – shaved ice with any kind of topping on it, from fruit syrup to red beans. The Street cafe in the Cheongdam neighbourhood is managed by JYP Entertainment and it’s been the haunt of famous JYP groups like Twice and Got7, with even some of the members’ handprints hanging from the walls.

The inside of the Laundry Pizza restaurant in Gangnam, Seoul, with washing machines lining the exposed redbrick walls.

The same goes for restaurants. The famous Laundry Pizza restaurant in the Yeoksam neighbourhood of Gangnam, for example, was the background for many idols’ photoshoots, from BTS to Apink, and it’s a must-visit if you want to boast a photo with the same backdrop as your favourite groups (or if you’re simply craving some pizza in a very aesthetically pleasing place!).

A pair of buildings on the Kyung Hee University campus in Seoul, South Korea: the white, colonnaded University Administration Building, reminiscent of a Greek temple, in the foreground, with the ornate Grand Peace Hall behind, resembling a cathedral.

Music video locations

While K-Pop groups travel all over the world to film their videos, it doesn’t mean they don’t also make good use of the locations South Korea can offer. You might want to visit the Kyung Hee University in Seoul, for example, where Apink filmed part of their Only One  music video on a rooftop. The university’s auditorium was also used as the iconic backdrop to Blackpink’s summer hit As If It’s Your Last .

The abandoned amusement park Yongma Land in the Jungnang district of Seoul features in many music videos and photoshoots, and you’ll recognise its carousel from the background of Twice’s Like Ooh Aah  and B.A.P.’s 1004 , as well as a number of Korean dramas.

On the outskirts of Seoul, you’ll find the Gyeonggi English Village of Paju, which features in two Super Junior videos, Magic  and U , as well as in EXO’s Miracle in December . Outside Seoul, on the other side of South Korea, you’ll find the town of Gangneung : the bus stop at Jumunjin beach shot to global fame after BTS used it as the cover shot for their 2017 album You Never Walk Alone .

Besides j-hope of BTS, other Kpop idols from Gwangju are Yunho of TVXQ, I.M of MONSTA X, Yunho of ATEEZ, Yoojung and Mill of OnlyOneOf, Seungmin of Golden Child, Yoon of STAYC, Lee Nagyung of fromis_9,  Bae Suzy to name a few.

SEVENTEEN live in Seoul: unbeatable energy from K-pop’s peerless performers

The K-pop act’s two-day ‘Follow’ concert in Seoul prove to be a worthy landing place for Korean and international fans alike

“Is this a concert or a festival?” asks SEVENTEEN ’s resident showman DK on Saturday (July 22), gesturing to the two sides of the cavernous Gocheok Sky Dome stadium, seemingly weighing the options. It’s a third of the way through day two of their Seoul concerts, and the powerhouse singer is reprising his role as emcee for a vaudeville-esque segment. In booming stereo, he lands on an emphatic answer: “A show you’ve never seen before!”

He’s not lying: when the thirteen-piece band step on stage, you’re in for a show like no other. An outgrowth of the creative autonomy they’ve flexed since day one, and the level of comfort the band has built with one another over the span of a decade, attending a SEVENTEEN show feels like being let in on an inside joke. Between all the bangers and ballads, of which there are many in the three-and-a-half hours, their chemistry leaves room for much delightful spontaneity.

Take their mid-show prank on Mingyu , for example – the members toss furtive glances toward each other during ‘Left & Right’, missing cues, all for the mischievous joy of catching out the unaware rapper, who unbeknownst to him, is the only one who dances the mock choreo. As always, it’s all in good fun: In the following song, Mingyu does the fake moves over and over with a bashful grin.

Missing from the chaos tonight, however, is member Seungkwan ’s exuberance and wit (not to mention vocal virtuosity), as the singer is currently on hiatus. These are big shoes to fill, and in ‘Dust’ and ‘Pinwheel’, DK pulls double duty, his warm lower register a devastating contrast to Woozi ’s airy soprano and Jeonghan and Joshua’s gentler tones.

In suave suits, Hoshi , Jun , The8 and Dino then hit the stage with a rocked-out version of ‘Highlight’, prompting loud gasps with their swift magnetism. Later, they lose their ties for the undeniably sexy ‘I Don’t Understand But I Luv U’, clavicles on full display through the lidded gazes and body rolls.

Sirens announce the Hip-Hop unit’s raucous set, bouncing between madcap brag raps ‘Back It Up’ and ‘Fire’. Putting up a cocky front, S.Coups, Wonwoo , Mingyu and Vernon track their long road to success ( “Made it this far, got nothing to prove / Just look back at our footprints” ) and take stock of where they are now: “Been touring domes now, haven’t you heard now?” Vernon raps in English, arcing his finger up toward the roof overhead.

You could see that growth in the confidence and swagger of opening trifecta of ‘Super’, ‘Don Quixote’ and ‘Clap’, which immediately set the bar as high as maestro Woozi on his elevated rig (He gets the most definitive mic drop of the whole night, only one song in). Or in the fluid, breathtaking choreo of throwback classics ‘Don’t Wanna Cry’ and ‘Thanks’, in which their twelve bodies unfurl in a wave of sinuous motion, as if a single entity. Crowd-pleasers ‘Anyone’ and ‘Good To Me’ also lay bare the transformation of boys to men.

The pièce de résistance of their showmanship is the extended version of ‘Hot’, which set the stadium ablaze by soliciting screams of “Hot, hot, hot” from the audience, before the charismatic, composed Dino rips off his jacket and careens into the high-energy finale: a runaway train of an encore, that, by the end, has the members panting into their mics.

Energy is the word of the night – and, for once, the fans may have SEVENTEEN beat in that department. A visibly tired Jeonghan flops around like a human cheer-o-meter (“Everyone please raise him up!”) and, as a nod to Seungkwan in his absence, Mingyu and the crowd take turns bandying an invisible orange back and forth, growing in size with each pass, until it’s so large the rapper falls flat on his back at its enormous, pretend weight.

“I think as we age, our stamina seems to decrease,” enigmatic dancer Jun confesses near the end of the concert, before shooting a quick “Sorry!” to the older members. But, even if the group doesn’t have the physical resilience they once did, the abiding energy of the fans in the room feeds their inner fire, Jun says. It echoes a sentiment he conveyed the day before: “When I think about it, I have found my sun, and that is all of you.”

And, after night one was cut short due to the stadium’s curfew, today became the day to leave everything on the stage, and in the stands. In what can only be described as an exhaustive battle of endurance between artist and audience, SEVENTEEN send off the show by jumping, bounding through the aisles, and belting high notes through what must be a record number of ‘Aju Nice’s (15, to be precise).

“We won’t let you go home tonight,” Woozi teases early on, and it’s a statement Carats, the name for SEVENTEEN’s fans, clearly take to heart, shouting “ Hanbeon deo !” (“One more time!”) through even the members’ final bows – the first one, the second one, and then the third and real final bow, after a couple more rounds of ‘Aju Nice’ in between for good measure.

The atmosphere is like that all night long, everyone slowly catching their bearings after a punishingly hot and humid Friday – this is, after all, the first Seoul summer for some who came from afar. Outside the stadium doors, strangers conversed eagerly in a medley of languages; inside, the cheers whenever members spoke in their native Mandarin or English were deafening.

“You all have your own lives, and yet you came here from far away,” Woozi says in his sincere ending speech. But it’s less about the distance traveled individually than the memories created together. It’s that intangible feeling that lasts a lifetime. “Even though it can’t be seen with our eyes,” he continues, “it’s a happiness that was carried here.”

Close to the end of the night, the members hop into motorized carts to make their rounds around the stadium floor, performing ‘Run to You’ and ‘To You’ directly to the fans. “Then I can find you,” they sing in harmony with the crowd. “Who cares if it’s a bit far?” Certainly not the thousands looking out at the scene in shared rapture. Like whatever journey they’d been on to get here, it had been worth it and more.

SEVENTEEN played:

‘Super’ ‘Don Quixote’ ‘Clap’ ‘Don’t Wanna Cry’ ‘F*ck My Life’ ‘Thanks’ ‘Dust’ ‘Pinwheel’ ‘Highlight’ ‘I Don’t Understand But I Luv U’ ‘Back It Up’ ‘Fire’ ‘Home;run’ ‘Left & Right’ ‘Beautiful’ ‘April Shower’ ‘Kidult’ ‘Anyone’ ‘Good to Me’ ‘Hot’ ‘Run to You’ ‘To You’ ‘Hit’ ‘Very Nice’

SEVENTEEN TOUR 'FOLLOW' SEOUL

Hours before SEVENTEEN dropped their new greatest hits album, 17 Is Right Here , on April 29, the K-pop sensations seized the moment by holding two electrifying concerts at the Seoul World Cup Stadium to preview the record and celebrate nearly a decade of hits together.

Against the backdrop of the stadium, SEVENTEEN leader S.Coups noted the sentimental moment, telling the crowd, “Standing here, I feel like I’ve been running towards this very moment up until now,” a testament to the journey they’ve undertaken alongside their devoted fanbase known as CARATs. Seungkwan added, “Our goal today is to present all CARATs here with the best day they ever had.”

With a five-piece live band noticeably elevating the SEVENTEEN musical experience to new heights from opening tracks “Super” and “Don Quixote,” the SVT crew delved into a slightly adjusted setlist for the closing shows of their ‘FOLLOW’ AGAIN tour that previously hit Incheon, South Korea, and will soon head to Osaka and Kanagawa in Japan. Offering fans a glimpse into their upcoming album, the live premiere of four new songs — including their maximalstic, break-beat single “MAESTRO” — made the tour finale all the more montemous. Mingyu reflected that they “were both nervous and excited to showcase the first performance of ‘MAESTRO’ here,” with Hoshi noting, “We wanted to show our ‘best’ selves for the CARATs. We really put our best efforts into this performance.”

As the concert drew to a close and each of the 13 members shared parting words with the crowd, Woozi encapsulated a collective sentiment, saying: “The ‘Best [Of]’ album will be released the day after tomorrow. It’s an album dear to me, embodying SEVENTEEN’s beliefs. Today’s show was also like that in some sense. Performing today, I was strongly reminded  of all the memories tied to  each and every  song. Today may have been an ordinary day for some, but for everyone here and us, it was a day of 10 years, making it so much more valuable. This moment is so special to us, so we always try to capture and remember everyone with our eyes as much as possible.”

Read on for more from SEVENTEEN’s Seoul shows, and see exclusive photos of S.Coups, Woozi, Hoshi, Seungkwan, Mingyu, Jeonghan, The8, Joshua, DK, Wonwoo, Jun, Vernon and Dino below:

“MAESTRO”

SEVENTEEN TOUR 'FOLLOW' SEOUL

SEVENTEEN’s latest single, “MAESTRO,” was revealed at the ‘FOLLOW’ AGAIN to Seoul concert, where thousands in attendance saw all aspects of its intense breakbeat production and orchestra-inspired performance.

The8 commented how the track “has one of the fastest beats-rhythms with a house dance break. I hope it feels fresh and new.”

“Cheers to Youth”

SEVENTEEN TOUR 'FOLLOW' SEOUL

Alongside the premiere of “MAESTRO,” each of SEVENTEEN’s three teams premiered the new tracks they recorded for 17 Is Right Here . The Vocal Unit (consisting of Woozi, Jeonghan, Joshua, DK and Seungkwan) shared their harmonious and euphoric vocals with “Cheers to Youth.”

“‘Cheers to youth’ is a song that I really like and we wanted to perform,” Woozi shared. “I pictured how the CARATs would react and it was exactly right.” Later in the concert, Hoshi explained the inspiration for the song.

“During the tour, I mistakenly said something and it was brought up when we all got together to talk afterward,” the leader of the Dance Unit shared. “[The members said] it was wrong to make such a comment, and I said, ‘Sorry, it’s my first time living today [this day.]’ Woozi heard this and took inspiration for this specific song.”

“Spell”

SEVENTEEN TOUR 'FOLLOW' SEOUL

The Performance Unit of SEVENTEEN (Hoshi, Jun, The8 and Dino) shared their new Afrobeat-inspired song “Spell” alongside a slinky performance that allowed the foursome to showcase their incredible physicality.

“The time really flew today,” Dino later remarked. “I had so much fun — I feel that what’s really important during a concert is what sort of feelings and emotions we feel and share. Today was filled with joy and excitement, and it’s all thanks to you. We thank you sincerely.”

“LALALI”

SEVENTEEN TOUR 'FOLLOW' SEOUL

The final new song revealed at ‘FOLLOW’ AGAIN to Seoul was the Hip-Hop Unit’s “LALALI.” Decked out in Adidas gear, S.Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu and Vernon shook Seoul World Cup Stadium with the bombastic rap track that’s quickly becoming a SEVENTEEN fan favorite with its anthemic shout-outs and cheeky lyrics.

Closing Message

SEVENTEEN TOUR 'FOLLOW' SEOUL

“We began the show by promising you the best day, and I hope we kept that promise,” Seungkwan told the crowd at the closing of ‘FOLLOW’ AGAIN to Seoul.

“It’s still hard to believe that I’m standing here with this joyous view in front of me … I’m grateful to be part of this nine-year-old band with all the members. Another thing I wanted to mention was this: I believe it’s up to us SEVENTEEN as an artist to make it easier for supportive, caring fans to show their love and support for us without any discomfort or inconvenience. We’ll continue to do our best. Thank you and we love you so much.”

SEVENTEEN on Wrapping Their Tour, New Music, and What’s Next

The 13 members of SEVENTEEN have been on their FOLLOW Tour since last summer, a tour that ranged from tear-jerking performances to ones that rip pants, and the encore leg (called “FOLLOW AGAIN”) is nearing its end. While the tour is close to wrapping, SEVENTEEN’s activities are not slowing down — the group has just released a new compilation album, 17 Is Right Here. With a run time of just over 96 minutes, the album features all of SEVENTEEN’s Korean language singles, Korean versions of their Japanese-language singles since their debut nine years ago, and four new songs. We’d be remiss not to mention that member Woozi is credited for both composition and lyrics on all 33 tracks.

The lead track, “Maestro,” pulls elements from previous songs to convey the message that the past is not just left behind, but rather a source of inspiration for SEVENTEEN as they evolve, a message the group shares as they approach a decade together. “Maestro” conveys how together, we can change the world and hold the power to orchestrate our own universe, a theme that is fitting for SEVENTEEN given how tight-knit the members are. The relationship that S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The 8, Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino have with each other is a key element to their success and longevity. Just as important is the gratitude they have for their fans, Carats, and how they’ve given the group 100 percent since day one nine years ago.

Glastonbury to Welcome First K-Pop Headliner: Seventeen

Rolling Stone caught up with Jun, Wonwoo, The 8, and Seungkwan over Zoom a few days before the highly anticipated Seoul World Cup Stadium, almost a year since we last spoke, to chat about the FOLLOW Tour, 17 Is Right Here , and anticipation for future shows in North America and Europe.

At the Seoul World Cup Stadium shows this past weekend, fans got to witness the very first performance of “Maestro,” and for those who missed it, Rolling Stone has the exclusive performance video below.

Let’s start with the tour! How has the FOLLOW Tour been?

Wonwoo: The FOLLOW Tour has been one where we’ve gone to many places and met with so many of our Carats, inspiring them but also getting inspired by them as well. The performances themselves were so enjoyable, it was such a positive experience overall.

Seungkwan: It was meaningful for us to have encore shows on top of that, and being able to perform as a full group, with members who may have been out sick all healthy and returned, made me feel great.

What, to you, sets FOLLOW apart from other tours you’ve done? Whether it’s how much you’ve grown since it kicked off last summer, or memories from FOLLOW that stand out to you?

Wonwoo: I don’t think I’ve looked back to evaluate how much I’ve grown with each tour, but as we do our performances, while on stage, we end up noticing how much each member has improved. As for special memories, we had a lot of time to eat good food all together. We got together in different countries, had good meals and spent quality time with each other. So that made it really enjoyable.

Seungkwan: As for things we wish we could have done — North America, Europe, [seeing] the Carats there. We weren’t able to see even more Carats out there, but I’m looking forward to the opportunity in the future.

Is there a special memory from the tour that stood out to you? Something between the members, an interaction with fans, or a moment you were particularly proud of.

Jun: For Follow Again [in] Incheon, there was a drone show for the performance of “April Shower.” It was really memorable and impressive. It contained the story of us and our Carats. It was impactful.

I actually had friends come over and watch the delayed stream of that show.

Seungkwan: Thank you.

Wonwoo: Well done! [Laughs.]

By the time people read this interview, the two Seoul shows will be done, and “Maestro” will be out. How is preparation going?

Seungkwan: At the Seoul concerts we’ll be performing “Maestro” for the first time. We’re really excited. And since it’ll be a performance just for the Seoul concerts, we’re going back and practicing more, especially since it’s a new song. We’re working hard to prepare. We’ll also be performing with our respective units. The unit songs are really good, too — I think the performances of the new songs will be a highlight of the concert.

What type of song is “Maestro” to SEVENTEEN?

Wonwoo: I think it’s a song that encompasses everything SEVENTEEN has done thus far. We pulled from previous lead tracks, and it’s a song that fits with us really well right now. It’s a song that captures the essence of SEVENTEEN as we are now.

I had a chance to preview a choreography video for the song and noticed you have some moves in there that emulate actual conducting. How did you prepare for that? Did you have to research or watch real maestros?

The 8: We didn’t have to actually conduct, but the moves are similar to conducting movements. And we also portrayed personas of musical geniuses that go mad about their craft, so we included nuances from conducting throughout the performance.

So that being said, which member from SEVENTEEN fits this concept of a maestro best?

Jun: I think for the music video — we haven’t seen the final version yet, but The 8 and I actually discussed this before — Wonwoo was pretty impactful.

Seungkwan: In the music video, Wonwoo looks really cool.

Jun: When you see it, you’ll see the madness we’re referring to. [Laughs.]

Seungkwan: What do you think, Wonwoo?

Wonwoo: I think for “Maestro,” Woozi is definitely fitting. He produced it, and he is the most maestro-like member.

Seungkwan: I pick… Me, since I don’t think anyone else will pick me.

Wonwoo: [Laughs.] You’re right. We wouldn’t choose you.

Wonwoo: [ To Seungkwan: ] You think you killed it again? [Laughs.]

Seungkwan: I just… think I look cool. I like me.

The 8: I choose Woozi as well, for the same reasons stated.

Wonwoo and The 8, you both also participated in songwriting for this album, for “LALALI” and “SPELL,” your respective unit songs. Can you share how that process was?

The 8: I had mentioned that I wanted to have raps in the performance unit’s song this time around, and with Dino, we specifically wrote the rap parts. It felt great to write as it’s been a while.

Wonwoo: I participated in “LALALI” by the hip-hop unit, and wrote very free-spirited lyrics.

Seungkwan: [Laughs.]

Wonwoo: It’s very free-spirited.

Seungkwan: But if you listen to the lyrics that Wonwoo wrote, you’ll hear a new voice of his, so I think it’ll be good to look forward to it. The Performance unit too, when looking from the perspective of the Vocal unit, they have been advancing musically a lot, and I think this new song is a high point of theirs. So Vocal’s is really great, the raps are good, and the Performance unit’s song is good — but I think above all, my unit’s “Cheers to Youth,” I think that song is good. It makes you happy when you hear it. To wrap it up, all three songs are good, but out of the three, I think “Cheers to Youth” is the best one. [Laughs.]

Jun: Honestly, all three songs are so different. I think personal preference plays a big part in which one you like most, so I think a lot of fans will be able to enjoy them.

What are you most looking forward to with this album?

The 8: I’m most looking forward to the performances. You can feel the beat in your heart. I’m excited to see how the fans react to our energetic performances, and seeing how much fun they are having when we look at them from the stage.

So there’s four new songs in the album, but many others that look back at your discography. From all of these songs, which song is the most special to you? I personally love “Mansae” and “Hot.”

Seungkwan: “Mansae” brings back memories.

Jun: Is “Fallin’ Flower” included?

Seungkwan: Yep! It’s in there.

Jun: Honestly [laughs] I’ve said it before too, but I really like “Fallin’ Flower.” It starts with a piano and when I hear that melody, I think it might just be personal preference, but I get really excited when I hear it.

Seungkwan: It’s a good song.

Wonwoo: “Adore U” for me. It’s a song that was with us from the start, so it’s a song I cherish.

The 8: “FML” for me. I like it the most. I think the lyrics are great, and the melody is also similar to what I normally like to listen to, so I think it’s a good song.

Seungkwan: For me… It’s hard… I will choose “Pretty U.” I have a four-part high note — for months I practiced really hard. I’m proud of myself. Do you know what I mean by “four-part high note?”

I know! Like IU’s famous three-part high notes.

Seungkwan: Yes! Exactly. [Vocalizes] “Ah, ah, ah, I’m in my dream…” It sounds similar too! [Laughs.]

What are you looking forward to doing once the Follow Tour wraps?

Jun: Even with the tour ending, we go straight into promotions for “Maestro,” so I don’t think it’ll feel like an end, but a new start. It’s also called FOLLOW AGAIN [laughs], and I really think our Carats can enjoy it to no end. So don’t think of it as the end, but just continue to enjoy it.

Wonwoo: It’s AGAIN , but does feel like a new start.

What about goals for the rest of the year?

Seungkwan: I want to be healthy. Have no one get hurt, stay healthy — it’s impossible to not get sick, but to be sick less. Those things feel more important than ever these days. I think we have to stay healthy for Carats to also feel at ease supporting us. Those are the goals. Of course, performing well, too!

Wonwoo: I want our members and our Carats to be healthy and happy. That’s the goal.

Trump hush money trial

Testimony ends for the day in Trump hush money trial

By CNN's Jeremy Herb, Lauren del Valle and Brynn Gingras from the courthouse

Gag order hearing moved to May 2

From CNN’s Kara Scannell

Judge Juan Merchan's gag order hearing will now take place at 9:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, May 2.

It’s unclear why the date and time changed.

Before leaving the bench today, t he judge said the hearing would take place on Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. ET.

It came after the prosecution filed a motion and argued in court that former President Donald Trump violated the gag order four more times over the past few days.

These are takeaways from today's hush money trial

From CNN's Jeremy Herb, Lauren del Valle, Kara Scannell, Nicki Brown and Brynn Gingras

Former American Media Inc. chairman  David Pecker  took jurors in  Donald Trump’s  hush money case inside how he paid for  Karen McDougal’s story  to keep her quiet about her alleged affair with Trump – and how his decision not to pay for  Stormy Daniels’ story  led to Michael Cohen ultimately paying for it.

Prosecutors on Thursday wrapped up their direct testimony with Pecker, who was on the stand for three days describing in detail how he worked with Trump and Cohen to buy up damaging stories about Trump throughout the 2016 campaign.

His testimony laid the foundation for the rest of the  Manhattan district attorney’s case  against Trump that focuses on the payment to Daniels.

Here are the takeaways from Thursday in the hush money trial:

  • Pecker details payment conversations: Pecker’s testimony included the nuts and bolts of how AMI paid McDougal on Trump’s behalf, Pecker’s private conversations with Trump about the catch-and-kill deal and the fallout when her story became public.
  • No gag order decision yet: Merchan had   spent Tuesday morning hearing arguments on Trump’s alleged violation of the gag order – which limits the former president from publicly discussing witnesses, the jury, the district attorney’s staff or Merchan’s family – but he did not issue a ruling on Thursday when court came back into session. Instead, prosecutors submitted another motion to hold Trump in contempt for additional violations of the gag order over the past three days – including comments he made Thursday morning.
  • Trump wanted to be elsewhere: Trump’s attorneys had asked for his appearance Thursday to be waived so he could attend the Supreme Court arguments on presidential immunity. The judge denied that request.
  • Pecker agrees in cross-examination that suppressing stories was "standard operating procedure": Trump’s attorney   Emil Bove cross-examined Pecker for about an hour. Quizzing Pecker with rapid-fire leading questions, Bove got the witness to confirm to the jury that Trump’s symbiotic relationship with Pecker and his tabloids was not unusual and long pre-dated Trump’s run for office. Pecker confirmed source agreements like the ones used to suppress stories from McDougal and  former Trump Tower doorman   Dino Sajudin  are “standard operating procedure” for AMI to give the company control of how the information might be released, if at all.
  • Trump’s attorney asks Pecker about tactics National Enquirer used for other celebrities: Bove’s cross-examination of Pecker elicited testimony about other celebrities whom Pecker had purchased stories about so they wouldn’t be published, offering a fascinating glimpse into the celebrity tabloid world while he was chairman of the publisher of the National Enquirer. Trump’s attorney sought to establish with Pecker that AMI used “checkbook journalism” to control narratives in the press and fostered mutually beneficial relationships with several celebrities – not just Trump.

Trial exhibit shows Trump at the White House with former tabloid boss

From CNN's Elise Hammond and Lauren del Valle

This image of ex-National Enquirer publisher David Pecker at the White House with then-President Donald Trump was admitted as trial evidence in Trump's hush money criminal case.

Exhibits that the Manhattan District Attorney's office admitted as evidence were shown during former President Donald Trump's hush money trial Thursday.

One of them is a photo of David Pecker, the former publisher of the National Enquirer, and Trump at the White House.

Another exhibit is the licensing agreement between American Media Inc. and Playboy playmate Karen McDougal. Pecker testified in court that he negotiated a deal that would give McDougal $150,000 for the rights to her story that she and Trump had an affair.

The agreement, dated August 5, 2016, also included that McDougal was going to get a monthly column on aging and fitness in Star and OK Magazines.

The invoice for the payment to McDougal’s lawyer, Keith Davidson, is also included in the exhibits, among other documents and text messages.

The ex-National Enquirer publisher answered questions from the prosecution and defense. Here's what happened

From CNN staff

David Pecker, the former publisher of the National Enquirer, testified Thursday about a deal made with Playboy playmate Karen McDougal and outlined the involvement of Donald Trump and his former personal attorney Michael Cohen.

After paying for two other “catch-and-kill” stories, Pecker said he refused to pay money to Stormy Daniels, testifying that he didn’t want the Enquirer “to be associated with a porn star.”

After the prosecution finished its direct questioning, the defense had a chance to start its cross-examination , which will continue on Friday.

Here’s what happened in court:

Karen McDougal:

  • The prosecution's questioning picked up with Pecker testifying about how he vetted allegations of an affair between Trump and McDougal. He said he negotiated to buy the story for $150,000 five months before the election after conversations with Cohen and Trump. Pecker said he believed he would be reimbursed by the Trump Organization or Trump himself.
  • He testified that he had concerns about the legality of paying to kill a story concerning a political candidate. He also said that he knew at the time  the deal with McDougal was illegal , and he wouldn’t have entered into it if it wasn’t for Trump’s benefit .
  • Pecker said he intended to kill McDougal’s story so it did not hurt Trump’s campaign. He also said he was aware that corporations making campaign expenditures in coordination with a campaign without disclosing them was unlawful . The transaction was not reported under campaign finance obligations, Pecker said. He later testified he and Cohen received letters from the Federal Election Commission in 2018.
  • To be reimbursed for the money to McDougal, Pecker said he used an outside service to facilitate the digital payment. He said he did this because he did not want the finance department at the Enquirer's parent company to receive money from the Trump Organization or Cohen, adding it would “raise a lot of questions and issues .” But, Pecker said American Media Inc. was never reimbursed for the McDougal agreement.
  • Pecker testified that Trump inquired about McDougal twice in settings where she wasn’t immediately relevant. “How's Karen doing, how's Karen doing? ” Pecker said Trump asked during a dinner at the White House in 2017. Pecker said he told him she’s doing well and “she’s quiet.”
  • Pecker said he assumed Trump was worried stories would impact his campaign because in conversations with Cohen and the former president, Trump’s family was never mentioned .

Stormy Daniels:

  • Pecker testified that he was told Daniels was "trying to sell a story that she had a sexual relationship with Donald Trump." When he told Cohen AMI was not going to buy the story , Cohen told Pecker that Trump would be furious with him, he said.
  • He said he didn't know the details of the transaction between Cohen and Daniels in real-time. He said he later learned Cohen had paid Daniels out of his own funds .

Cross-examination:

  • Trump attorney Emil Bove pressed Pecker about this history with Trump — long before the election. Pecker confirmed that he had been giving Trump a heads-up on negative stories for about 17 years before Trump decided to run for president. He also said he had “mutually beneficial” relationships with celebrities other than Trump and said it was standard for politicians to work with the media.
  • Bove walked Pecker through several other deals. One he made with Arnold Schwarzenegger where he paid to kill negative stories from dozens of women. He also confirmed that the company purchased photos of Tiger Woods to use them as leverage to get him in the magazine.
  • The defense also tried to poke holes at Pecker’s memory , challenging him about the timing of a meeting at Trump Tower in August 2015. Bove said these things happened a long time ago.

Gag order: Judge Juan Merchan said he would consider four new violations of a gag order on Trump and set a hearing for next Wednesday. Prosecutor Chris Conroy said these violations include comments Trump made to cameras outside the courtroom, in an interview and at an event. Merchan did not issue a ruling or hold Trump in contempt.

Few people think Trump is being treated the same as other criminal defendants, poll finds

From CNN's Jennifer Agiesta, CNN Polling Director

As the first criminal prosecution of a former American president began just 13% nationwide feel  Donald Trump  is being treated the same as other criminal defendants, according to a new  CNN poll conducted by SSRS .

Most of the country was divided over whether he is being treated more harshly (34%) or more leniently (34%) than other defendants.

The poll, which began fielding a few days after the trial’s jury selection phase kicked off April 15, finds only 44% of Americans express confidence that the jury chosen for the case will be able to reach a fair verdict, while 56% more skeptical that a fair outcome is in the cards. More see Trump’s behavior during the trial thus far as inappropriate (42%) than appropriate (25%), with about a third saying they haven’t heard enough to say.

Those assessments of how things are playing out in the courtroom come as a rising share of Americans say the charges in the ongoing trial – related to allegedly falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments to an adult film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election – are irrelevant to his fitness for the presidency even if true (45% say so now compared with 39% last summer, before he became the presumptive Republican nominee for president)

About three-quarters of voters currently backing Trump against President Joe Biden in the 2024 election say they will stick with him even if he is convicted of a crime, while 24% of Trump’s backers say a conviction might cause them to reconsider their support.

See courtroom sketches from Trump's trial today

From Christine Cornell and Jane Rosenburg

No cameras are allowed inside the Manhattan courtroom where Donald Trump's hush money trial is underway, but CNN sketch artist Christine Cornell captured the scenes from today's proceedings:

In this court sketch, former President Donald Trump, bottom left, watches as “tabloid king” David Pecker returns to the stand in Manhattan Criminal Court in New York on Thursday.

The defense began cross-examination of Pecker. Here's a recap of some of the top lines

From CNN's Lauren del Valle, Jeremy Herb, and Nicki Brown

The defense started its cross-examination of David Pecker, the former publisher of the National Enquirer.

Trump attorney Emil Bove tried to argue that Pecker’s work helping Donald Trump during the 2016 election was nothing new or out of the ordinary.

Bove’s cross-examination lasted just over an hour before court ended for the day. The defense will continue its questioning with Pecker on Friday.

Here are some of the key points:

  • Bove started his cross-examination by asking Pecker to confirm he was with American Media Inc., the National Enquirer's parent company, from 1999 to 2020. When asked, Pecker acknowledged he still has equity in AMI.
  • Trump's attorney asked Pecker if he managed AMI to make money.
"That's correct," Pecker said.  "AMI wasn't a charity?" Bove asked. "No, it was not," Pecker said. "Part of AMI's business model was to purchase stories, correct?" Bove asked. "Yes, it was," Pecker responded.
  • Bove confirmed with Pecker that the business model included buying stories, reiterating Pecker's own words that AMI uses "checkbook journalism."
  • Bove also confirmed source agreements were "standard operating procedure" for AMI, to give the company control of how, if at all, the information might be released.

Merchan says there will be a hearing Wednesday about prosecution's request to hold Trump in contempt

From Lauren del Valle, Jeremy Herb, Nicki Brown, and Kristen Holmes

Before leaving the bench, Judge Merchan reiterated that he signed the order to show cause regarding the prosecution's latest request to hold Trump in contempt for the four new violations of the gag order. It came after the prosecution filed a motion and argued in court that Trump violated the gag order four more times over the past few days.

There will be a hearing next Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. ET about that, he said.

Assistant District Attorney Chris Conroy addressed the additional violations in court Thursday morning, providing the judge with another proposed order to show cause, which Merchan signed.

At a hearing Tuesday morning, prosecutors had already asked Merchan to hold Trump in contempt for violating the gag order, citing 10 social media posts from before and during the trial. They also want the posts taken down. Merchan has yet to rule on these alleged violations.

Trump has two campaign events next Wednesday. He is required to be in court for the gag-order hearing unless the judge signs a waiver to excuse him.

Trump: What happened in the courtroom on Thursday was "breathtaking"

From CNN's Aditi Sangal

What happened in the courtroom on Thursday was "breathtaking," former President Donald Trump said after court wrapped for the day.

He also described former tabloid boss David Pecker's testimony as "amazing."

"Open your eyes, we can't let this continue to happen to our country," he added, reiterating his complaint that this trial should have "never happened."

Trump also commented on the "monumental" US Supreme Court hearing on the matter of his immunity in the federal election subversion case brought by special counsel Jack Smith.

"I hope it was made clear that a president has to have immunity or you don't have a president. Or at most you can say it would be a ceremonial president. That's not what the founders had in mind," he said, adding he heard that the hearing was "quite amazing" and that the justices "were on their game."
