Weezer Announces ‘Voyage To The Blue Planet’ 30th Anniversary Of The Blue Album Tour In Celebration Of Their Legendary Self-Titled Debut

After teasing upcoming live shows on social media, Weezer are thrilled to officially announce an extensive North American tour in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their career-defining, self-titled debut Weezer , also known as the ‘ Blue Album .’ They will play Weezer (the Blue Album) in full along with other fan favorites, rarities and more. On this anniversary tour produced by Live Nation, Weezer will be joined by The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr . as support.

Fans can sign up for Weezer’s mailing list to get access to presale tickets on Wednesday, March 13 at 12:00PM local time. More presales including a Citi presale (details below) will run throughout the week ahead of the general onsale beginning on Friday, March 15 at 10:00AM local time. Separate from their tour, the band also announces a special anniversary event on March 15th at the Lodge Room in Los Angeles with Dogstar as support. This exciting full-circle moment mirrors the band’s March 1992 show at Raji’s where they ended up opening for Dogstar in an unlikely turn of events. The name “Weezer” was coined in a conversation with the show’s booker (read more via Weezerpedia HERE ). They will be playing Weezer (the Blue Album) front to back alongside some very special guests.

An instantly recognizable cultural touchstone of the 1990s, Weezer (the Blue Album) has garnered such a firm place in the musical pantheon of the last three decades that it serves as an entry point into music for nascent listeners. A testament to the band’s staying power, tracks like “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So” have earned hundreds of millions of streams and endless placements in TV shows and movies.

The run of dates kicks off in Saint Paul, Minnesota at the Xcel Energy Center on September 4th before traveling to major cities including Toronto, Boston, New York, Nashville, and Washington, D.C. to name a few. Weezer To Celebrate 30 Years Of The ‘Blue Album’ With Arena Tour Ft. The Flaming Lips, Dinosaur Jr.

Foundational ’90s/’00s geek rock quartet Weezer will hit the road this fall for an extensive tour in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the group’s self-titled 1994 debut album, widely known by fans as the  Blue Album .

After teasing upcoming live shows on social media, the band on Monday officially announced an extensive fall 2024 tour billed as  Voyage to the Blue Planet . The band—comprised of Rivers Cuomo (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Patrick Wilson (drums, backing vocals), Brian Bell (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), and Scott Shriner (bass guitar, keyboards, backing vocals)—will perform the Blue Album in full each night of the tour along with other fan favorites, rarities, and more. The anniversary tour, produced by Live Nation , will feature support from two more celebrated alt-rock acts,  The Flaming Lips and  Dinosaur Jr.

The  Voyage to the Blue Planet tour will take Weezer to notable arenas across North America from early September through mid-October. Highlights of the schedule include shows at Rosemont, IL’s Allstate Arena (9/6), Boston, MA’s  TD Garden (9/10), New York, NY’s  Madison Square Garden (9/11), Philadelphia, PA’s  Wells Fargo Center (9/13), Austin, TX’s Moody Center (9/27), Dallas, TX’s  American Airlines Center (9/29), Seattle, WA’s  Climate Pledge Arena (10/4), Vancouver, BC’s  Rogers Arena (10/5), Portland, OR’s  Moda Center (10/6), San Francisco, CA’s Chase Center (10/8), and Inglewood, CA’s still-under-construction Intuit Dome (10/11).

Separate from the Blue Album anniversary tour, Weezer has also announced a special anniversary event on March 15th, 2024 at the Lodge Room in Los Angeles with Dogstar (featuring Keanu Reeves) as support. This full-circle moment will mirror an early milestone Weezer gig at Raji’s where the band shared a bill with Dogstar. This performance will also feature a full recreation of the  Blue Album with “very special guests.” That concert is already sold out.

Weezer to Play Debut LP in Full on Voyage to the Blue Planet Tour

Weezer will commemorate the 30th anniversary of their self-titled debut album — colloquially known as the Blue Album — by playing the LP in full on their upcoming Voyage to the Blue Planet tour.

The North American trek begins on Sept. 4 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and concludes on Oct. 11 in Inglewood, California. The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. will provide support.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday and can be purchased via the band's website . You can see the full list of tour dates below.

Additionally, Weezer will play a special anniversary event on Friday at the Lodge Room in Los Angeles with support from Keanu Reeves' band Dogstar, with whom Weezer played their first show back in 1992.

Released in May 1994, the Blue Album was a huge critical and commercial success, selling over 3 million copies in the United States and becoming one of the defining rock albums of the '90s. Produced by the Cars ' Ric Ocasek , Weezer provided a poppier alternative to the grunge albums ruling the charts at the time and spawned the hits "Undone - The Sweater Song," "Buddy Holly" and "Say It Ain't So." Weezer have officially announced a 2024 tour in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their debut LP, The Blue Album , after Rivers Cuomo teased the possibility this past December. The North American run will feature The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr . as support, with Weezer playing The Blue Album  in full alongside other fan favorites and rarities.

Voyage to the Blue Planet

Voyage to the Blue Planet is Weezer's headlining 2024 North American tour, slated to occur between September 4 and October 11 . The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. are set to play as opening acts. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Weezer (The Blue Album) , the album will be played in full at each show.

Social media posts teasing a "voyage" were first shared on February 14 , 2024 . [1] The tour was formally announced on March 11 , accompanied by a space-themed trailer video and website redesign. A new Weezer Fan Club membership bundle and a one-off anniversary performance at Club Dump were also announced. Weezer (The Blue Album) was set to be performed at each show in full to celebrate the album's 30th anniversary, alongside "[other] Weezer songs, rarities, and more." The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. , who have both performed with Weezer previously, were announced as the tour's opening bands. [2] [3]

On March 14 , only one day after pre-sale tickets became available to fan club members and other select groups, the September 14 show in Washington, DC sold out. In response, an additional show at the same venue on the following day was added to the tour schedule. [4]

Weezer Is Taking A ‘Voyage To The Blue Planet’ With A North American Tour To Celebrate Their Iconic Debut Album

Around this time last year, Weezer announced their joint Indie Rock Roadtrip alongside Future Islands, Joyce Manor , Modest Mouse , Momma, Spoon, and White Reaper. On Monday, March 11, Weezer had an even more exciting tour announcement.

The iconic Californian rockers will commemorate the 30th anniversary of their self-titled debut album (also known as the “Blue Album”) with Voyage To The Blue Planet Tour . The North American trek will feature Weezer performing Weezer “in full along with other fan favorites, rarities, and more,” as per the press release.” The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. will serve as supporting acts. Cicada map 2024: See where to find Brood XIX and XIII − and where they've already been spotted

For many Americans, the cicadas are here .

Trillions of periodical cicadas are already emerging in a rare, two brood event across multiple states , with more expected to come in the following weeks. Thanks to warm temperatures and good conditions, these 13- or 17-year cicadas are emerging from their underground habitats to eat, mate and die, making a whole lot of noise in the process.

Broods XIX and XIII have not emerged together since 1803, and after this year, won't emerge together again until 2245. While they are largely in different states, they are both emerging in parts of Illinois and Iowa.

So if you've seen one cicada or hundreds of cicadas, here's where you can expect to see more this year.

Are cicadas already out in 2024?

Adult periodical cicadas from Brood XIX have been spotted by users in multiple states across the Southeast and Midwest including in Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and Illinois, according to  Cicada Safari , a cicada tracking app developed by Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Through Cicada Safari, users can confirm their sightings of cicadas with pictures, look at a map of other cicada sightings, join a leaderboard with other users and learn more information about cicadas.

The two cicada broods are projected to emerge in a combined 17 states across the South and Midwest. They emerge once the soil eight inches underground reaches 64 degrees, expected to begin in many states in May and lasting through late June.

The two broods  last emerged together in 1803 , when Thomas Jefferson was president.

What is a brood?

According to the  University of Connecticut , broods are classified as "all periodical cicadas of the same life cycle type that emerge in a given year."

A brood of cicadas is made up of different species of the insect that have separate evolutionary histories. These species may have joined the brood at different times or from different sources. These different species are lumped together under the brood because they are in the same region and emerge on a common schedule.

Why do cicadas make so much noise?

You'll have to thank the male cicadas for all that screeching. Male cicadas synchronize their calls and produce congregational songs, according to  Britannica , which establish territory and attract females. There is also a courting call that they make before mating.

Unluckily for us, the 13-year and 17-year brood cicadas  are the loudest , partially because of the sheer number of them that emerge at once.
