Bobike Exclusive Tour Review: Results of our Test Rides

Years ago we tested out the Bobike Exclusive Tour  and while we loved a lot of the seat’s features, we had some concerns with the seat’s mounting system and weren’t able to recommend it.  Having reworked their mounting system to make is stronger and more durable, BoBike reached out again to have a take a look at the updates.  After several months of testing, both our young riders and adult testers loved the BoBike Exclusive.  Easy-to-use and easy-to-adjust, the Exclusive has a lot to offer.

Quick and Easy Adjustments

Toddlers can be wiggly little buggers and getting them to stay still while adjusting a bike seat while also keeping your bike upright can be a challenge.  The BoBike Exclusive makes adjustments quick and easy.  Starting off, their uniquely mounted shoulder straps mount by snapping in, one at a time, above the child’s shoulders. Unlike other systems, the straps do not need to be pulled over the child’s head and helmet, which greatly simplifies the process.

The shoulder straps also adjust in three different places .  The insertion height of the straps can be raised or lowered by raising and lowering the headrest.  By adjusting in unison, you can ensure the headrest is always properly placed around the child’s head to offer maximum protection.   To further tighten the buckles, each shoulder strap can be adjusted independently via the gray button on the shoulder strap webbing.  The same button on the lower portion of the buckles allows for additional strap adjustments.

Loading a Child in the BoBike Exclusive Tour

Child being strapped into the BoBike Exclusive Tour child bike seat.

One concern we had regarding the shoulder straps is that the stiff plastic shoulder “cups” are pretty rigid and don’t allow for much room for the child to grow.  While they do flex somewhat, as a child gets older the strap is likely to put unwanted pressure on the child’s shoulder.  Our one-year-old tester comfortably fit in the straps, but an older preschooler may have some concerns.

Lastly, the footrests are also very easy to adjust.  Made of soft wide webbing, we found that they hold a child’s foot in place much better than other systems found on similarly priced seats.

Extended Protection

A unique and impressive feature of the Exclusive is it’s extended coverage around the head, body and integrated tire shield for the legs.  The body and headset of the seat are made of double-walled plastic that is rigid and durable.  We love the headset as it not only helps to keep the child’s head upright when they fall asleep, it also keeps their head from jostling back and forth during rough parts of the ride. The higher sidewalls also help to keep young riders’ arms tucked in place while riding, but without restricting their movements.

The Bobike Exclusive Tour is available as a rear rack mount or a rear frame mount.  We only tested out the rear-rack mount, but the seat itself is the same between the two mounting styles.

The rear rack-mounted seat does not come with a rack, but it does come with a mounting bracket that must be attached to your rack.  The bracket is very adjustable and is likely to fit just about any rack.  Because the bracket is so adjustable, it did take us a good 15 minutes or so to get the bracket properly mounted to fit out rack.

Mounting system and rack for the BoBike Exclusive Tour child bike seat.

Once the bracket is mounted, the seat quickly and easily snaps into place.  On the front of the seat, a large metal hook slides into a metal bracket on the front of the mounting bracket.  The rear portion of the seat snaps into the mount via two plastic tabs that wrap around a metal-reinforced shelf on the bracket.  As a safety precaution, a safety strap is also provided to secure the seat to the seat post (shown in images with bike above).

Under the seat of the BoBike Exclusive Tour child bike seat showing tabs that lock the seat into the rack mounting system.

In our 2014 review of the old model of the Bobike Exclusive Tour, we were not able to recommend the seat due to the weak nature of these plastic tabs on the bottom of the seat. After riding over some rough terrain, one of those tabs broke which greatly compromised the safety and securing of the seat.  Since then, Bobike has reinforced these tabs as well as the mounting bracket to ensure the safety of the seat.  Based on our tests, we do not anticipate any issues with the mounting system of the updated Bobike Exclusive Tour.

Bobike’s Kids Plus XS Helmet

Along with the Exclusive Tour, we were also able to test out Bobike’s Kids Plus XS helmet (48-53cm).  Built with in-mold construction, a built-in visor, increased protection down the neck, and an easy to use dial adjust system, the helmet was loved by both parents and child alike.  In fact, our young tester loves the helmet so much he regularly wears it around the house.

Baby wearing the BoBike Kids Plus XS baby helmet.

Bottom Line

A breeze to use and with extended protection around the neck, sides and legs, the safety and durability of the Bobike Exclusive Tour is a solid around-the-town choice for toddlers to kids about age 3.  For older or larger kids, the fixed shoulder strap width may become an issue with time.  The Bobike Exclusive Tour is only available through authorized BoBike dealers .

How to Travel to Mount Fuji from Tokyo in 2024: By Train, Bus, and Car

article thumbnail image

In this article, we compare five ways to travel from Tokyo (Tokyo/Shinjuku Station) to Mount Fuji (Kawaguchiko) in terms of travel time and price.

How to Get to Mt. Fuji from Tokyo: By Public Transit and More

If you want to travel to Mount Fuji, you need to head to Kawaguchiko, a city that lies at the base of the famous mountain, nestled around Lake Kawaguchiko, one of the Fuji Five Lakes.

There are several different ways from various places to access Kawaguchiko. While the bus is the most well-known option, you can take the limited express train, another popular choice, or drive a rental car.

In this article, we'll compare five ways to access Kawaguchiko at the foot of Mount Fuji from Tokyo . We've also included each method's respective advantages and disadvantages.

*The one-day passes introduced in this article are exclusive to international travelers. Please keep this in mind if you are a Japanese resident.

From Tokyo to Kawaguchiko and Mount Fuji

1. Direct Travel: Limited Express Fuji Excursion 2. Express Bus from Shinjuku, Tokyo, or Haneda Airport 3. Train: JR Chuo Line Rapid + Fujikyuko Line 4. Rental Car 5. Join a Bus Tour

1. Direct Travel: Limited Express Fuji Excursion

How to Travel from Tokyo to Lake Kawaguchi in 2024: A Comparison Guide of Transportation Methods

Photo by PIXTA The most convenient way to travel to Kawaguchiko from Tokyo is via the limited express Fuji Excursion . Following the timetable revision in 2024, now eight round-trip trains operate between Shinjuku and Kawaguchiko daily. The first train leaves Chiba Prefecture for Kinshicho in the morning and then heads to Kawaguchiko via Shinjuku.

You can arrive in an hour and 53 minutes at the earliest with a fare of 4,130 yen by taking the train from Shinjuku. However, the limited express Fuji Excursion is only available with reserved seating. Due to Lake Kawaguchi’s popularity as a sightseeing destination, it would be best to reserve your tickets early.

International travelers can use the JR Tokyo Wide PASS . You may want to consider purchasing this pass according to your travel schedule.

Limited Express Fuji Excursion: Updated 2024 Timetable

What if i can’t reserve seats on the fuji excursion.

You can use another method if you can't get a reservation on the Fuji Excursion. Take the limited express Kaiji or Azusa to Otsuki Station, then transfer to the Fujikyuko Line to access Kawaguchiko.

It’s not a direct route, but it’s still quite fast as the trains run often on these lines, making it a convenient method. But some limited express Azusa trains don't stop at Otsuki Station. Make sure to confirm this beforehand before making your reservation.

2. Express Bus from Shinjuku, Tokyo, or Haneda Airport

How to Travel from Tokyo to Lake Kawaguchi in 2024: A Comparison Guide of Transportation Methods

Photo by PIXTA Another major transportation method to Kawaguchiko from Tokyo is the express bus . The express bus mainly departs from Shinjuku Bus Terminal or Tokyo Station (from either Tekko Building or Yaesu Bus Terminal, depending on the bus company). There is also a bus that travels from Haneda Airport via Shinagawa.

Buses departing Shinjuku take about an hour and 45 minutes to arrive at Lake Kawaguchi, and prices range between 2,000 and 2,200 yen, making it a deal. However, expressway conditions change daily, so the bus may arrive much later than scheduled if a traffic jam occurs.

We recommend reserving your express bus tickets online beforehand, similar to limited express trains. Buses to Lake Kawaguchi will often sell out and be full.

International travelers can make their reservations via the sites below.

3. JR Chuo Line Rapid + Fujikyuko Line

How to Travel from Tokyo to Lake Kawaguchi in 2024: A Comparison Guide of Transportation Methods

Photo by PIXTA The Chuo Line Local operates two direct trains to Kawaguchiko every night. Outside of this time frame, you will need to take the train for Takao Station , transfer to a train for Otsuki Station, then transfer one more time to the Fujikyuko Line.

There has been an increase in rapid trains along the Chuo Line and other lines, with Otsuki as the last station . However, this route currently has the longest travel time and requires you to transfer at least one to three times. As such, the fare will sometimes be more expensive than the bus. This route is not highly recommended unless you have extra time.

4. By Rental Car

How to Travel from Tokyo to Lake Kawaguchi in 2024: A Comparison Guide of Transportation Methods

Photo by PIXTA Another recommendation is a rental car from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko.

Once you arrive at Kawaguchiko, you can ride the local bus to each sightseeing spot. But if you rent a car, you can travel to places without worrying about the bus schedule and enjoy a stress-free time there.

MATCHA currently offers 10% discount coupons for Nissan Rent a Car and Nippon Rent-A-Car!

5. Join a Bus Tour!

How to Travel from Tokyo to Lake Kawaguchi in 2024: A Comparison Guide of Transportation Methods

Photo by PIXTA Are you thinking, “It’s too much trouble and tiring to do all this research before my trip?" Then your best option would be to purchase tickets for a one-day bus tour online.

Participants board the bus at a designated meeting point and embark on a tour with a guide for the entire day. Lunch and several stops at sightseeing destinations are included in the tour package, so you don’t have to worry about planning your travel itinerary.

Many one-day bus tour packages to Lake Kawaguchi are available on booking sites such as Klook, so how about referring to the booking website to compare packages? Two of the most popular plans are linked below.

Travel with Ease from Tokyo to Mount Fuji

How was our comparison of transportation methods to Kawaguchiko from Tokyo?

If you exclude one-day tours and rental cars as options from the five methods above, then the overall comparison between each method is as follows:

Best: Express bus Second best: Limited express Fuji Excursion Third best: Transfer at Otsuki to the Fujikyuko Line via a limited express train Fourth best: Transfer to the Fujikyuko Line via a local train on the Chuo Line

Nonetheless, there are various travel methods. As long as you arrive safely in Kawaguchiko, you can’t go wrong with choosing your preferred method of transportation!

As KIRO Newsradio reported in March , the federal government has secured funding and is taking initial steps to plan for a new facility to house the once-threatened Seattle branch of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). News of the potential for funding was first shared by KIRO Newsradio in October 2023 in an exclusive interview with Archivist of the United States, and head of NARA, Dr. Colleen Shogan.

Earlier this month, KIRO Newsradio spoke to a pair of federal officials directly involved for a preview of what’s to come in what will be a long process to develop and build the new facility. All of this new activity with an eye to the future is a radical departure from the roller-coaster ride for the National Archives in Seattle which stretched from January 2020 to April 2021 , and which ultimately ended when the Office of Management and Budget formally withdrew plans to close the current Seattle facility and sell the real estate.

The $9 million in funding is for planning and design of a structure to replace the aging warehouse near Sand Point which NARA currently calls home for its collection of materials related to Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska. The building, which NARA has occupied since the early 1960s, dates back to World War II when it was created as a warehouse for the nearby U.S. Navy base at what’s now Magnuson Park in Seattle.

‘A very large project’

The current building needs some major repairs in order to protect the important and often priceless U.S. government documents, photos and maps dating as far back to the 19th century; a small portion of the $9 million will be used for the most urgent repairs at Sand Point.

It has not yet been determined what the total budget for the new NARA facility will be, but those funds will be significant, and will require separate Congressional approval. Also not determined yet is the timeline for when the new facility will open, but officials told KIRO Newsradio that a 7-to-10-year range is a good estimate.

A decade is a long time, even in the world of history and archives. However, because the threatened closure of the current Seattle facility in 2020 was so contentious and came completely out of the blue – courtesy of the obscure federal agency called the Public Buildings Reform Board – KIRO Newsradio reached out to the federal agencies directly involved to hear sooner rather than later about how plans will unfold, and how the public will be engaged in the process.

More from Feliks Banel: Grassroots preservation campaign saves Parkland School

The agencies involved include NARA, the federal administrators and archivists who run the current Seattle facility as well as a network of similar facilities around the United States, and major operations in Washington, D.C., and in nearby College Park, Maryland. Also taking part were officials from the General Services Administration (GSA) the federal agency that manages real estate, and builds and owns offices, warehouses, lighthouses, etc., for the U.S. government.

One way to look at the Seattle project is to think of GSA as the developer and future landlord, and the National Archives as the client and future tenant.

Deputy Archivist of the United States Jay Bosanko is one of the officials who sat down with KIRO Newsradio.

“This complete replacement is a very large project,” Bosanko said. “And yes, this is probably the largest and most visible project that we’re working with GSA on at this time.”

Bosanko didn’t say it in so many words, but likely because of what happened in Seattle a few years ago, NARA is already in discussion with stakeholders for the current and future facility, particularly the Indigenous tribes who were blindsided by the threatened closure.

“As you can imagine, there was a great deal of public interest and interest with all of our stakeholders that came out of all of the discussions previously about the condition of the building and its possible sale,” Bosanko said. “So, we’ve actually been receiving input for some time. And then, of course, we’ve been engaging with some tribal nations. I’ve met with representatives of tribal nations just within the last month, and that effort will only continue and grow as we move closer through this process.”

And “this process” also includes the General Services Administration (GSA), whose staff and contractors are responsible for property acquisition, and for design and construction of the new facility.

For the current Seattle NARA facility, Ryan Kennedy, the GSA’s regional chief architect, says the priority is fixing the leaky the roof.

“We do have a project in place,” Kennedy told KIRO Newsradio. “It is geared up to start this year. Specifically, we need to do repairs at the roof so that we can make sure that the building stays nice and dry.”

“So, that’s our highest priority at the moment,” Kennedy said, “to protect the existing facility.”

For creating the future facility, Kennedy says GSA has a process for “design excellence” which includes a focus on engaging stakeholders.

“So, really early on, we’re collecting from everybody ‘Who do we really want to hear from?,’ and it’s not going to be a closed circle, it’s going to be very open, because we know that this will be potentially a prominent legacy building here in the Seattle area,” Ryan Kennedy told KIRO Newsradio. “And we’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on that, so we’ll be developing that stakeholder analysis, and then an engagement plan.”

“And through the early phases of this work, once we’ve collected enough information to share,” Kennedy said, “presentations, potentially open houses, websites and other public-facing forums will come about that will give people information and also collect their input.”

Key fact: New facility’s location has not yet been determined

One very important fact Kennedy shared: the location of this new facility has not yet been determined, and it won’t necessarily be located within Seattle city limits. This also means that the future of the Sand Point real estate where the current facility stands is also to be determined. There is sure to be an interesting formal process to figure out what will ultimately happen with that land, and plenty of informal interest from the city of Seattle and other interested parties. That, as they say, is a topic for another day.

Wherever the new facility is built, many have been wondering if it can be designed and built as something more like a “destination” – with an auditorium, special event spaces, exhibit areas – not unlike a museum which would attract visitors beyond those who wanted to do research or comb through the documents, photos and maps.

Is this approach a little too wacky for NARA?

“No, not wacky at all,” Bosanko said.

“We are very interested in being a vibrant and engaged part of the communities where our facilities are located,” Bosanko continued. “And we will be working with GSA to identify all the requirements, and obviously, that starts with the storage of the records.”

Along with a traditional research room where materials would be available to study, Bosanko says, “We want to have space where we can conduct public programs, where we can do outreach, and where we can emphasize the role we can play with educators, and especially in the K-12 space.”

“We are absolutely interested in being this active participant in the broader community,” Bosanko said.

One issue that came up in early 2020 when the materials held in Seattle were being threatened with removal to California and Missouri was the need to digitize more documents, photos and maps to, at that point, at least partially compensate for them leaving the region – that is, providing online access would make up for the materials no longer being held in Seattle. Then, just months later, the value of digitizing materials became even more obvious during the pandemic, when most archives were closed to in-person visits.

Material digitization is a priority

Regardless of what happened four years ago and regardless of how long it might take , digitization of materials is clearly a priority for NARA.

“Digitization is neither fast nor easy to do, it’s expensive,” Bosanko acknowledges. “And there are a lot of questions about how do we, given our massive volumes, increase our ability to do digitization.”

Bosanko calls digitization a “force multiplier” to extend the reach of the National Archives beyond each of their brick and mortar locations. He adds that an initiative already underway at their main branch in Maryland will inform design of the Seattle facility, and will, ideally, create what he hopes will be unique ways to engage the public, and to get the public’s help.

“We have just opened a brand new, state of the art digitization center at our facility in College Park, Maryland,” Bosanko said. “So there’s some opportunities for lessons learned there that we can then bring to all of our field sites,” he continued, by creating similar spaces where NARA could, for example, invite “a group of people in that have an interest in a particular body of records, and (work) with them to digitize those records.”

“That kind of flexible space is absolutely going to be important to us,” Bosanko said.

What about the building’s exterior?

The inner workings of an archival facility are the heart and soul of the operation – the shelving, HVAC, fire suppression and other systems which protect the valuable contents. But what about the exterior? Must the new Seattle facility look like a big sterile suburban warehouse?

Or, is there potential for this new facility to be a visual landmark, perhaps some kind of inspiring structure that has elements of distinctive design, too?

“With all of my effort, it’s going to be a ‘yes’ to that” last question, Ryan Kennedy said.

In her role as regional chief architect for the Northwest/Arctic Region of GSA, Kennedy again cites the GSA concept of “design excellence.” This includes, Kennedy explains, a series of questions that get at the root of the many factors which influence those working to create a physical structure that represents and serves the needs of the client – in this case, the National Archives and Records Administration.

“What does a federal government building look like? How does it represent the community? How does it showcase innovation?” Kennedy said, reeling off some of the key questions. “How does it really look at future generations and its need?” she continued.

“A goal that we have is to make this building not only functional but resilient, and also just exemplify what NARA is,” Kennedy said. “We want to make sure that that is represented physically in the building as well as functionally in the building.”

And how soon might the public be invited to get involved in answering those questions and shaping the design of the project and, by extension, the future of the once-threatened Seattle branch of the National Archives?

“I’m probably going to over commit, but since I’m working with the project team, our goal is really to get something this year out there, whether it’s just a notification that things are happening,” Ryan Kennedy of GSA said. “But we are being aggressive with our work, we want to get started.”

“NARA has been interested for a long time,” Kennedy said. “And we want to support that.”

The same might be said of the Indigenous tribes, historians, museums, local archivists and amateur history researchers who are eager to be part of what comes next, and who want to do all they can to make sure the National Archives always have a home in the Pacific Northwest.

Diddy's sean john frames pulled from america's best contacts and eyeglasses, diddy sean john out at america's best ... he won't be getting framed.

Diddy 's wallet's about to take a hit ... 'cause his famed Sean John frames are out at a huge eyewear retailer while his legal troubles mount.

America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses has halted sales of Diddy's company's frames, TMZ has learned ... with a rep for the company confirming the move as well.

Waiting for your permission to load the Facebook Video.

Stores received a message Tuesday to remove all Sean Johns from the frame boards and replace them with frames at an appropriate price point from understock. They put a hold on selling the frames and told the stores to wait for further instructions. Unclear what the company plans to do with the merchandise.

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ ... they began pulling the frames online last month and did the same earlier this week in brick-and-mortar stores.

While the company wouldn't reveal the precise reason for the move ... it's clearly tied to the public reaction following the horrific video showing Diddy beating Cassie in a hotel hallway.

Diddy's apologized ... but, lots of stars and normies have trashed him publicly -- with many others keeping their distance.

Lawsuits against Diddy keep piling up ... another accuser says Diddy raped her multiple times . She's being repped by the same lawyer as Rodney Jones and Liza Gardner .

Basically ... the future of Diddy's empire is looking pretty bleak.

Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

" Wisconsin " is derived from the Native American word meaning "dark rushing waters," and "Dells" is an anglicized version of the French word "dalles," which means "layers of flat rock." Wisconsin Dells is renowned for its unique geological structures and distinctive rock formations created by glacial activity thousands of years ago along the Wisconsin River. Wisconsin Dells is an ideal destination for families seeking a memorable vacation filled with thrilling attractions for travelers of all ages.

Waterparks : Wisconsin Dells is known as the "Waterpark Capital of the World," featuring exciting water slides, lazy rivers, and wave pools. You can visit the Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park, Kalahari Resorts, and Noah's Ark Waterpark — the largest waterpark in the United States.

Natural attractions : Wisconsin Dells boasts a myriad of stunning natural attractions. Take a boat or paddle on a kayak through the Dells of the Wisconsin River. Witches Gulch is a narrow, winding canyon that is accessible by boat. Visitors can go hiking, fishing, and camping at Mirror Lake State Park or go rock climbing at Devil's Lake State Park. Visitors can take a horse-drawn carriage tour of Lost Canyon — the deepest and longest land canyon in Wisconsin. A segment of this long-distance hiking trail passes near Wisconsin Dells, providing an opportunity to explore glacial landscapes and enjoy scenic vistas of the region’s natural beauty.

Family-friendly activities : Kids can feed and pet various deer species at the Wisconsin Deer Park. Learn about the history of the circus by exploring exhibits at the Circus World Museum. The Tommy Bartlett Exploratory is an interactive science museum that offers a hands-on learning experience for visitors of all ages with more than 175 interactive exhibits about physics, astronomy, and robotics. Wild Fun Zone is an indoor amusement park with arcade games, laser tag, and mini-golf.

Travelers are treated to one-of-a-kind sightseeing adventure tours of land and water spanning the Wisconsin River, Dell Creek, Lake Delton, and miles of wilderness trails.
